La Pola - September 12, 2011 - Discussion Page

Pola reaches Juliano in time to help him hide from the soldiers. She gets him back to Santa Fé, removes the bullet from his back and helps him recover. Cata has not only found her son at the mine, but, she has also found Nicolasa’s son. She bargains with the boss and buys both of them and heads back to Guaduas.

The plan to free the Almeida brothers widens. The guards can be bought, and Pola succeeds this time in getting money from Gaspar and Eusebia. Rodriguez is to lead the team that will help them escape.

On the other hand, Alejo and Pola are to take the information they obtained from Arcos and go to Los Llanos and meet Santander whom they are counting on to raise an army to free Santa Fé from the Spaniards.

María Ignacia not only has paid a spy to follow Alejo, but she also follows him herself. She overhears a conversation between Alejo and Pola in which the Los Llanos plan is revealed. After the patriot co-conspirators leave, María Ignacia confronts Pola. It turns out to be so what do you want now, he is going to marry you. It really isn’t that simple because the Los Llanos trip may have a one-way ticket.

María Ignacia is consumed with jealousy. She takes matters into her own hands and delivers the information to Sámano. She gives up Pola. Sámano remembers Pola from Guaduas, and he orders his colonels to bring her back alive. Since he now has this intel, he is able to prepare a plan to attack the forces at Los Llanos by surprise.

At the last minute, the patriots learn that Rodriguez has been injured in an ambush and cannot lead the escape effort. Alejo is put in charge of the Los Llanos operation since he has the most military experience (es un militar formado en España). Pola will take the place of Rodriguez.

Readers: I had to get this up early since I will be very busy tomorrow morning. I left a lot out - like the interaction between Pola and Alejo which seemed a bit of an icebreaker. And, especially the conversation between Alejo and Candelaria. What was in the letter?

sorry, the post went to limbo land
again...
from memory.
Rodriguez asks Alejo to go to plains with Pola and Arcos. Alejo mentions that he is getting married Saturday. Rodz yells at him that he goes with Pola or forget about participating in the freedom movement.
Alejo says 'i'll go'.
Pola asks Alejo to speak privately outside.
A: What do you want, Pola?
P: Why are you getting married so soon?
A: I can't stand seeing you with AA or having you mention him all the time.
P: I want him to be freed because of what he means to the freedom movement...
A: Why did you kiss him then?
P: Ok, stay then!
A: You heard Rodz, if I don't go i will be out of the movement.
P: Dont worry about that.
A: Do you want me to get married?
P: Alejo, I know you were very hurt by knowing that I have thought about another man... and that you think I betrayed the hopes we had as a couple for our future together... (he interrupts her already changing his facial expression)
A: Just tell me something.. do you want me to get married?
P: No! No! I don't want you to get married! (he gets his facial expression change from challenging her to content tenderness)
A: Well then, I will go with you.
P: You realize that if we go we will not come back until the day we return to fight for our freedom.
A: I know that.
P: You don't mind?
A: I don't mind.
P: Alright, you will leave tonight with me, Sr Sabarain!

THe chat with Candelaria was some relationship counseling she was giving him, she said that everyone should listen to their heart and obey it. Alejo said that is what he is doing (going with Pola instead of marrying MI). Then Alejo asked Candelaria how he could pay her (he said for the lunches he owes her, but i think he also meant for the advice LOL). She said charge it to the freedom movement.

Samano is having Iglesias follow the group to the plains... now watch Iglesias break down Samano's plans by going after Alejo's group too early... LOL!!
however, the previews don't look very upbeat for Alejo, Arcos and Arellano (which are exactly the 3 guys we see locked up together in the 1st ep...)

Martaivett: Thanks for clearing up the Pola/Alejo conversation. I have to wind back to the 19th century to understand Alejo's problem with Pola. He imagines she is thinking about another man after he has been gone two years and is presumed dead. So, out of vengeance he asks a woman whom he can't stand to marry him?????? Now, he has the perfect out. He and the woman he is taking out his vengeance upon will leave in the night to further the revolution. And, he writes a letter - to MI??? telling her what? That she isn't right for him. We'll find out tonight or at least this week, I hope.

if the letter is for MI, I bet it is full of 'i don't deserve you, you should find a man who cherishes you... you don't want to marry me [BAR_} ...
in all honesty, she deserves not getting him, since she has been a selfish whinny brat all along .
Like Pola asked her, why do you want him anyway if he doesnt want you?

Thanks so much for posting, Pasofino and Marta.

Poor Acacia -- what a miserable position she is stuck in. "I thought you had changed!" she says to her bratty "amita". Alas, she was wrong.

Novela Maven - Poor Acacia is right! I really wish Acacia would run and tell someone that MI has ratted out Pola to Samano.

I can't believe they found Nicolasa's son! Does anyone know if there is any truth to the Juliano/Catarina story line?

Anonymous,
I also kept hoping Acacia would do more than agonize silently. But remember that she doesn't know for sure that María Ignacia sold out Pola, though she may have strong suspicions -- MI refused to let Acacia follow her into Sámano's chambers because, she said, she couldn't trust her.

Finding Nicolasa's boy was an amazing and unexpectedly hopeful turn of events. (I have no idea if there's any historical truth in the Cata/Juliano story.)

this time it was Arcos to poke some sense into Alejo and prevent him from wasting his life for nothing. and Arcos with the ultimate unselfish advice (think of la Pola!)...

I have to say i liked how Pola handled both men... wow, to have two men who look like that at your feet and turn them down .. all in one day...
AA is the best looking guy... for sure! how could she ever turn this guy down even if she did it as softly and honestly as she could ... sigh
it was good to see Alejo, Arcos and Arellano smile again and spend some time together even if it was the calm before the storm...

Arcos goodbye to Pola and his poem...
She has the country in her blood
she has valour on her skin
I feel honored to have known her..
will never forget you..

awwwww... it was sweet of Pola to tell him that if her heart had not been taken by the time she met him he would have been her boyfriend.

NOW! that said... what are the odds that she would pull that escape, like Vicente said, without shooting a single bullet?
Rodriguez is right to be in awe...
