La Fuerza del Destino #36 Fri 09/23/11 Moonlight Make-out Night for Lucia and Ivan; Carolina Schemes with Antolin; Benito Takes a Turn at Playing Private Eye

~This episodio brought to you by Teens ‘n Tweens Magazine. ~

Viewerville returns to Mexico and moonlight just as Lucia tells Ivan that she’s ready to lose her virginity for him.  He’s thrilled we assume and overcome by the urge; but they’ve got no place private to do the deed, he tells her.  The way he feels about her though, he’d just as soon do it right then and there!  He grabs her and kisses her.  They get lost in the dizzyingly delish moment as the camera tracks their kiss in merry-go-round fashion.  (Viewerville, though anxious to enjoy the moment with the celluloid couple, are simply dizzy, reeling and ready to retch.)

At the same time Carmen is making excuses for herself, minimizing her part in finally getting the axe from Mr. Anthony as his ama de llaves [head housekeeper].  She only made the old lady wait a teensy bit and how was she to know that she meant so much to the old guy?  Mama Arcelia knows her daughter’s arrogant ways too well and says as much.  Ohhhh!  Everyones taking his side against her, she wails!  In walks Camillo and says he could have imagined the scene she’d be making right now.  Tough nuts, but she deserves what she got, he tells her.  I warned you! Carmen tearfully begs him to ask Mr. Tony to take her back.  He refuses.  He’s disgusted with the way she always puts on airs and he doesn’t think she’s ever going to change!   She storms off.  Cam tells Celia that he hope she’ll learn her lesson.

At the local bar for bad boys, Saul tries talking El Gordo into incriminating McGuire employees in the arson attack, and nobody better than their right-hand man, Cam. Gordy knows better than to go after Antolin’s family.  “—He’d pull my tongue out!”  Saul says just to make an anonymous call to the authorities about seeing Cam’s truck parked in front of the farmer’s property right before the fire broke out.   They’ll throw the blame to any one of the other farmers in the area that refused credit from McGuire and Son.  Saul gives Gordy the Galvan family’s address so he can write down the plate numbers for the call.

That evening Benito is watching Gerardo’s house.  Inside, Gerry continues trying to talk sense into Carolina about not absconding with Alex.  Ivan and Tony would set a couple of investigators on them and they’d be tracked down in a matter of a couple of days!  Besides, even though they have a birth certificate, all it would take is for the courts to agree to a DNA test and they’d have all the proof they’d need.  Trust in Lucia not to tell Ivan anything.   Ok, says Caro, and she heads to bed.  Gerry doesn’t know whether to believe her or not it seems.

Ivan drives Lucia home but…..Surprise!  The moonlight make-out is all we get from our main pair of lovers tonight as Viewerville seems forced to enter into a time warp where Ivan and Lucia have regressed to their Junior High personas.  Ivan tells Lucia that he is glad they’re going on vacation together courtesy of Abue Carlota who now doesn’t seem like such a baddy to him.  Lucia laments that they won’t have any time alone together.   Oh, they’ll find some time among whatever else [inter].  We get more kissy-face but he’s dying from desire!  Somebody needs to call “Ripley’s Believe It Or Not!”   Our 30 year old Ivan refuses to go further than a major mack attack on Lucia’s shoulder.  WHY? Cuz our 24 year old Lucia’s still a virgin and deserves better than a back-seat bop in an SUV for her first time (or a trip to the nearest all-tell hot-el for that matter).  He admits to some very fiendish fantasizing about the two of them finally making love.  She lets out with a few ingénue giggles at that and whispers a few girly giggle-ishous goodies into his ear about some of her own naughty thoughts about him.  Viewerville is trapped as an unwilling chaperone in this bad Junior High nightmare, screaming to get out. (OMG!  No wonder kids turned to drugs, sex and rock-n-roll!)  They decide to wait for a more appropriate and appetizing occasion.

Our two would-be lovers have made the appropriate choice it would seem as Carly is up reading and waiting on Lucia to make it home sans dishevels as it were.  Lucia tells her that she’s sooooo in luhhhhhv!  Carly admits to wishing she could be that age again herself!  Lucia gives her a kiss good night and heads to bed.

Will this Z-rated Jr. High nightmare never end?  Both take showers in their respective bedroom suites and begin to fantasize about sex with each other.  It doesn’t stop at the shower stall.  They go to bed naked and continue their fantasies there.  (Ackkk! Puh-lease!  Note to the writers: Spare us more of this sweet sixteen giddy-girl n guy B.S., ok?  Try writing in a trip to the nearest city hall and making it officially adult.)

In another part of town, Anto stops by Maripaz’s place expecting a chat.  (Uh, yeah, right!)  Merry Piece grabs him by the gills, lays a major lip-lock ‘n tongue prod on him, then gives him a goose and the option for a good go in bed “to show her appreciation for his stepping up to stop the blackmailer.” She admits she hasn’t had a guy in a while and he’s shown himself to be all man.  Anto is sorely tempted, but something (like maybe Carolina?) stops him.  He courteously refuses the offer by saying he wouldn’t want her to think he was taking advantage of her this way.  Besides, she’d probably regret having fooled around with a bum like him the morning after, so he’d prefer to just stay friends.  He grabs his jacket and starts out the door.     “—Your loss!”  He agrees.  “—And what a shame, too!” He walks out the door. Reee-jected!!!! Merry Piece can’t believe it!

The next morning Benito is still there as Gerry leaves to give a proposal to a possible client for a remodeling job.  Once Gerry’s gone, she heads to her bedroom, opens the dresser and takes out the box with her bag of centenarios (gold coins now worth approximately 50 pesos or $5 each).  He watches as she, Rosa, and Alex walk into town, and then follows them.

Lucia receives some flowers from Ivan on her way to the school to pick up her final paycheck.

Celia blesses Cam as he heads off to work and asks him to try getting Carmen her job back.  He reluctantly agrees to for her sake and NOT Carmen’s.

Lucia calls Van afterwards to thank him for the flowers and he tells her how crazy he is about her.  They agree to meet for lunch.

Cam shows up as Van hangs up with Lucia.  He admits to being a bit jealous of Ivan’s good luck at love.  He’ll find his other half [media naranja = lit. half orange].  Cam says unfortunately his first go at it was a rotten one.  Badaboom!

Principal Olga informs Lucia that her mother didn’t call to explain her days absent from work.  She gives her pay and warns her that she doesn’t know if they’re going to give her a job the next year because of her reputation.  The whole town is gossiping about her and Maripaz going out with the same man—that Ivan McGuire—and how he’s put her sister up in a love nest to boink her whenever he has the chance.  Lucia tries telling her that none of it is true, but since she hasn’t a good reason to explain it away, Olga says the rumors will continue. She’s got to get involved and take some sort of action.  Besides, she doesn’t believe Lucia either!  As long as her sister is Ivan’s protégée and Lucia continues to see him, the school’s reputation will suffer.  Lucia says well, there’s nothing more to be said then.  She takes her paycheck and leaves; and on the way to her car Lucia cries over her humiliating treatment.  (Thanks again, Maripaz, for ruining her life!)

Cam, meanwhile, asks Ivan to see if Tony will give another chance to Carmen.  He explains that he’s only doing it because his mother asked him to, though he doesn’t think Carmen will change or deserves it.  Ivan admits that he doesn’t like Carmen’s abusive attitude with the help or the way she treats his dad’s dog.  She let the position go to her head.  However, because it’s his madrina asking he will try asking Tony for another chance for Carmen.  Besides, the whole world deserves a second chance.  Cam says he’s embarrassed to be so indebted to Ivan, but Van shakes it off and says he’s like a brother to him and he’d even give his life for him!  Cam says not to talk like that, but Van asks him if he doesn’t remember risking his life when he stabbed that guy in the street fight?  Cam remembers all right, but doesn’t correct the lie in the storyline.

Carolina and the others split up outside the church while she supposedly goes in to pray. Benito has secretly followed them there.  She tells the others to take their time buying swim trunks and lifejackets.  Inside, she meets up with Antolin who tells her he’s worried about what she wanted to meet him there for.  Why, won’t he help her?  Anto says all she has to do is ask and her wish is his command.  She asks him to exchange her coins for real money.  Anto is surprised by the amount of money she’s carrying around in that bag and asks where she got them.  She says they’re from her sister.  He wants to know what she’s got planned and why first.  “—Don’t tell me that that miserable wretch, Gerardo, is trying to take advantage of you!  I will kill him!!!”

Benito’s outside still waiting and calls Tony who tells him to keep watching her.  Women always want to go to church.  Benito suggests she might be there to meet somebody.  Tony says keep an eye out and hangs up.  Ivan apparently is in the know and changes the subject to opening up the packing plant the day after tomorrow [pasado mañana] with a grand opening celebration.  Then, they’ll go on vacation for a couple of weeks and when they return they can celebrate his and Lucia’s engagement.  Tony thinks that’s a terrific idea.  (¿Y cómo no?)

Benito enters the church and sees Caro talking to a guy, but the camera shows only his backside and not his face.  She is lying to Anto, telling him that she is going to take Alex on vacation with her to the ocean somewhere, but that Gerardo refuses out of pride.  Also, she says something about heading towards her hometown to see her cousin, Esther, who Gerry has never liked.

Anto suspects something else is going on since she has way too much money with her for a simple vacation (not to mention she’s acting really nervous and tearfully stuttering out her answers).  Caro says well, if she has too much, then they can just stay longer. Anto finally gives in, but first he wants the truth. Anto asks if her trip has to do with Ivan.  She denies it.  He says that he doesn’t want her traveling by bus and will take them himself—if in fact this cousin of hers really exists--she shouldn’t mind so much.  In fact, he thinks she’s taking off with Alex for some other reason altogether and Caro’s silence is all he needs to know he’s hit on the truth.  Anto tells her not to worry and kisses her hands.  “—You can count on me.”  [Soy contigo = I’m on your side/ I’ve got your six o’clock.]  She wants to leave the next morning and they agree he’ll pick them up at the café near the house.  He tells her he hopes this isn’t some big mistake.  She says no and he should leave by the side door.

Anto watches her leave the church and notices Benito is following her.  He recognizes him as the guy who came from the States bragging that he took Ivan in off the streets when he first arrived there to L.A. and slid in front of the line to see Sr. Anthony at the hotel.   So he follows Benito and then calls Carolina to warn her.

Van talks a very unwilling Tony into rehiring Carmen.  He changes the subject to some special visitors from Erdes/Ardes?, a major food producer, that are coming to check out their plant and are interested in doing business with them.  They’re thinking to sign a contract with them afterwards.  (Yawwwwwwnnn!)  FF>>

Across the way at Casa Curiel, Lucia tells her mother and grandmother what happened with Sra. Olga at the school.  She’s upset that Lucrecia didn’t bother to tell her why she was gone for so long.  Lucrazia seems to blow it off and tells her what does it matter since she’s going to marry and take care of her husband’s kids and household.  She doesn’t need the job.  Lucia disagrees and says she plans to use her degree.  Sure, says Mama.  Ivan is like any other man, promising the moon and the stars [montes y mares = lit. mountains and seas] but once you’re married they pull in the reigns.  Lucrazia walks off.  Lucia is bummed out.  Carly is sure that Ivan will be different.

Benito calls Tony to report and says Caro was inside the church talking with some man he couldn’t see well.  Tony thanks him and tells him to come home and sleep.  He’ll send out a different guy to take over following her.

Antolin dials Carolina.  He explains about Benito following her and explains that the guy is a friend of Ivan’s that he knows, so if he recognizes him, the guy will certainly recognize Anto.  It’s not going to work out for them.  They’ll have to change their plans for the next morning.

Tony tells Ivan to put Samuel in Benito’s place while he gets some rest.  Ivan asks if Benny’s observed any funny stuff.  Nope, just her having a little romance at the church.  Van looks a little puzzled but doesn’t say anything more.  FF>>

Gerry informs Caro that he got the remodeling job. She acts happy for him.  Alex arrives very happy because Carolina bought them lifejackets [salvavidas] and trunks.  She pretends to be in agreement on the vacation trip with Carly and Crew (I think?).  Gerry can only come for visits.  Alex wonderes who will teach him to swim…..  FF>>

Cam says he’s got the sexretaries sending invites for the grand opening to all the farmers who are working with them.  David’s gone to the Ag Association to invite Juan Jaime.

At the Association office, Juan Jaime finds out that he’s invited to the McGuires’ grand opening.  He puts on a big act of disbelief and asks David how he could expect to go and how they could’ve thought to invite him in the first place.  David swears they had nothing to do with that fire.  JJM accuses him of selling out to the enemy.  Davy denies it and says despite his cutting him down and underestimating his ability all these years, he did inherit something from him along the way—the same as Ivan did!  JJ wants to know how much he knows about Ivan.  All of it, Davy says.  Well, admits Juan Jeil-me, he’s also got servant’s blood mixed in and he’s just one of sooooo many of his bastard kids.  May be, answers David, but this bastard is one intelligent, successful man and he's really got a good head for business!  "--He’s not timid and spineless [apocado] like me, or a fool like Saui."  Could be that Ivan’s the son he always wanted, you know?  Daddy Meandragon tells him to get the heck out before he throws him out!  David readily obliges.

Juan Jeil-me sniffs and snorts and mumbles to himself once David’s gone. “—Ha!  The son I always wanted!  That thieving [altanero]…..!”

Heh. The principal claimed the whole town was talking about the rumors re: Maripaz/Ivan/Lucia.

The rumors the PRINCIPAL started.

Again, David needs to stop with the schmedium hoodies.

Carolina is a fool.

JJ had a Hmmm... expression on his face when David told him Ivan was the son he always wanted, not weak like David or a fool like Saul.

Thank you for the recap. I really needed it. I had more than my usual trouble comprehending this episode.

That sexy fantasy was something wasn't it? I was already super uncomfortable watching it. Then my husband walks in and yells, "Oh my God he's going at her tongue first!" Sorry Ivan and Lucia. We had a few good laughs at your expense.

Had a good laugh at your description of Van and Lucia's makeout session. The carrying on was ridiculous!!! They have no sexual chemistry at all!!! But I like both characters and the novela also.

Since Benito is not going to spy on Carolina and Anto, their guard might be down and the new guy will have success and be able to catch her trying to run away with Alex.

David Zepeda bores me to tears. He is very good looking - gorgeous, actually - but otherwise for me he falls flat. And even though I've been enjoying Sandra, I find myself turning off the TV or muting during the Ivan/Lucia scenes. Just don't care for them together. Just makes me stop watching.

I enjoy most of the other characters though, especially the old farts, LOL! And I think the actors playing Antolin and Saul are amazing. I wouldn't be so impressed with the Saul actor except I've seen him play such a completely different person with a such a totally different physical presence (the mannerisms, facial expressions, timing, style of speaking) that I am constantly blown away. He just has the dumb jerk thing so down!

I've seen the Camilo actor in other stuff too, and here he seems like the perfect cast for "farm boy". He is sooooo farm boy! If he weren't speaking Spanish I'd think I was watching some young man from rural Iowa. I'm glad to see Televisa not try to force the guero actor into another "sophisticated galan" role. I also think he is carrying off the conflicted nature of his character pretty well.

Ooooooh! Too bad I missed the slick way Antolin turned down Easy Piece! Darn! My punishment for not watching the entire hour.

Thanks for the recap - you made it very easy to visualize the scene.

Thanks for the recap, Jardinera!

I guess I have low expectations, but I like Ivan and Lucia together. Tho I will admit the chemistry is not super strong.

Carolina is a whack job. Antolin is taking shameless advantage of her as well.

With their money issues I can't believe Lucrazia is OK with Lucia wasting her degree.

Ok, what the heck is up with the red bracelet that Antolin (and Renata from CofE, and various other actors in other novelas) are wearing? I always thought it was a Kabbalah thing, but it seems odd that it would be that widespread in the novela community...

Thanks for your recap Jardinera. ITA w/your assessment of the lame sense of hot romance. And we should be thankful b/c based on the music, they edited that sequence.

I hate when smart people do dumb things. Does anyone think Carmen will be humble when she comes back to work? NO!

Thankfully things in this TN move quickly so if despicable Carolina and Antolin do kidnap Alex, it won't be too long. And silly Gerry will have to confess even though it will be obvious who Alex is once that pathetic woman snatches him.

Welcome, AnotherAmy!

Thanks everyone for popping in!

I do like both the leads, and am pleasantly surprised at how well DZ carries off a believable galan, but the chemistry between DZ and SE is falling short of expectations. No suspense. --I like the chemistry between Antolin and Caro or Cam and Lucia better. Storyline is faltering a bit here also which Jarocha warned us about, but over all, I am interested in what happens to the main characters--except for Saul.

I agree about Antolin and Carolina. After Bruno and Carly, I like Antolin a lot. He is a very complex character- Willing to carry out all sorts of nefarious shenanigans, but very loyal and protective of family and Carolina.

I love the job Kika is doing, but her character annoys the stew out of me.

Kika is playing blind very well, mucho better than Daniela Castro did as Lisabeta did in Pasión.

And I also like Antolín, but then again, who wouldn't? He wouldn't let his brother take the fall for the fires, but no problem for Saul to screw David. Anyone that knows David would know that he is incapable of a rotten act like that.

I've been wondering about the red bracelets for years. Can that many actors really be into Kaballah, or is it about something else? And, why would they be allowed to wear them onscreen, when the character isn't into such things?

Jardinera- Thank you so much for your funny take on the makeout adventures of Ivan and Lucia.

For me, the least interesting part of this story is the love story. But I can't take my eyes off Antolin and Carolina, as much as both of these characters do things that I don't like or annoy me. I also really enjoy Carly and Toni, and little Alex. I'm curious how this whole custody battle is going to work out. That's the biggest mystery right now, not whether Ivan and Lucia will end up together.

I love the way Anto got MP's motor running and then left her high and dry. This poor girl can't get any satisfaction. David, Ivan, and Antolin. I'd love to see Camilo do the same to her. LOL!

Hasn't Lucia's salary been helping the family out? Lucrezia is stupid to be ok with her wasting her education and being unemployed. She's such a hypocrite, because there is no way she would have given up working for her husband. Even with her whole there's a difference between working for someone else vs working for yourself. I think that's why she and JJ never got married, because he would have forced her to give up running the ranch and expected her to be a housewife.

I'm channel surfing trying to catch the new shows so I am missing things here and there. Thanks to the recappers for helping me out.

This is one gossipy town. I guess being out in the desert might be boring but don't they have t v reception to keep them entertained. They could catch a novela.

I think Colunga, Yanez and Rulli are more my style but I am enjoying this novela since it keeps moving. And the actresss playing the pain in the a** Carmen also played the sweet Margarita, Gaviota's friend and co-worker at Montalvo Corp., in Destilando Amor. She's doing a good job of acting since I'm inclined to strangle her in this novela. My respect for Gabe Soto as an actor continues after seeing him in La Verdad Oculta and this novela. I almost forget that he was so stiff and constipated in that chef novela.

Like the blind woman in Pasion. Carolina is becoming a villainess. Wouldn't it be nice if she and Antolin found love together but then he would have to find some honest work to support her.

GinCA

I guess I'm one of the few who like Ivan and Lucia together. But maybe it's just because I think he's super hot!!

I hope that before the end of this novela both Carolina and Carmen get slapped. Geez, they're annoying!

Welcome, Hilda!
Carmen is definitely due a little hand to mouth. LOL!

Jardinera: I thought your recap was wonderful. I was literally laughing our loud at dizzy, reeling and ready to retch) and "Viewerville is trapped as an unwilling chaperone in this bad Junior High nightmare, screaming to get out." An interesting, inclusive narrative (as always).

I'm intrigued by Caro and Antolin. I like DZ and feel (perhaps unfairly) his lack of chemistry with Lucia is due to the actress.

This is in a bit of a lull, but hopefully things will heat up. I also like Gabe Soto and think he is well cast. I think his physique is amazing. Sigh...

Great comments.
