Cuando Me Enamoro #127 Monday 10/17/11 A Birth Celebrated, A Coming Birth Lamented, A Rebirth Looms in the Jail

We hear a repeat of baby care directives. Zeke goes off to get Luz Maria’s big brother Panchito. Alfonsina and Kari comfort MarinaTata about her daddylessbaby. Jeronimo was never for me, he loves Renata and he will love her forever. Said Lover comes into his bedroom and tells Renata how beautiful she is in her flannel pj’s (wow, is love blind, he must be imagining ripping them off) They discuss why Augie spilled the news of Jero’s approaching babydaddyness. She still can’t believe Augie had bad intentions in telling her but he was nobly worried. Jero assures her that Augie’s only intention is to separate them. She wisely decides to end the endless with a hug and kisses. Boy-o no one else could make flannel look that sexy. Jero goes off for a quick shower. MarinaTata finally admits that she knows Jero’s heart never belonged to her, an extension of MT’s junior high mentality with a ray of the light of personal epiphany.

Matilde harps at Carlos that he didn‘t trust her enough to tell her of the livingdead down at the jail, aka Dr. Nesme just isn’t dead enough for anyone’s liking. Why didn’t you trust me ? Why didn’t you sometimes I don’t want to take such risks. She says so I am always going to be treated as a wife who is a nosy busybody (metiche) and gossip (chismosa). She goes out yelling all these things that if Carlos weren’t afraid to admit, he would agree with.

On a happier note . Luz’s big brother comes in with great happiness and tenderness. He comments on how tiny she is and how beautiful like his mother. He promises to take care of her and protect her not just now when she is little but for her whole life. He thanks both his parents for giving him a beautiful sister. It is so cool (que padre), even Kari smiles.

Adriana and Matias come back to the boat and get a bowl of fruit from the boatman. They speak of their love and he wants to announce publicly their engagement. He wants to marry her. He presents her with a beer top or grass ring to make it official. She swoons happily at the romantic gesture. They would love to stay there forever but they need to finish their business obligations then go home to tell all the parents of their engagement.

Alfonsina tells Marina that she had the same problem with a surprise pregnancy when she didn’t know if her baby was her husband’s or.. Kari finishes her sentence or MINE. Alfonsina adds, it leaves a scar (cicatriz) forever.

With Gonzo in his off ice, the commandante points out the obvious, this case has not been wrapped up because Fina has a LOT OF MONEY and she can buy many accomplices. Gonzo declares that desperation may not make a good counselor but he is desperate to get Fina off the streets there is so much danger to his family. The commandante recommends a special agent to get to Fina. A really great looking and very special looking agent walks in the room to help corner the elusive, flighty Fina. It’s about time, the entire D.F. police force can’t crack this problem so maybe good looks will help snare her.

Sweet Roberta calls MadMomma Fina to tell her all the changes Gonzo is making to Fina’s divorce settlement. He is leaving the house to Regina since she is her only daughter and she won’t be able to make changes from jail. Roberta insists that if she doesn’t come out ahead in this then her deal is off with Fina. Fina tells her not to worry that won’t fix anything but she has plans to stop Gonzalo before he can make anyone else a beneficiary. (Is it my imagination or are the wigs getting lots wiggier as Fina becomes more desperate?)

Renata and Jero have breakfast together. She urges him to go have the talk with Marina but she doesn’t want to wait alone at La Bonita while he takes care of this so she suggests going into the pueblo to shop around then go see Alfonsina’s baby. She worries that he will change in his attitude toward Marina if she won’t let him take part in the baby’s life if he stays with Renata. He urges her not to worry and to leave everything in his hands. It will all work out and they will enjoy a family together with much love.

Marina is tending to the still ailing uncle-Padre when she gets nauseous. His concern causes her to tell him she can’t hide things from him so she spills that she is expecting a child by Jero. He is outraged that she is going to have a baby with someone who was only her lover. She assures him that her baby will never feel shame for his circumstances. He begins to dial Jero to get more involved than anyone wants him to be but she convinces him to hang up, then she leaves in a huff telling him not to interfere. He has no right to make demands of the father of her child. He pounds his pillows in unaccustomed rage.

Padre gets back on the phone and gets Renata at Jero’s number. He says is your h… --er is Jero there? He must call him back at the earliest moment and come to the parish house to see me no matter the hour.

Carlos and Mati are talking about trust. He promises to tell her everything from now on and it is up to her whether she tells or doesn’t tell. She’s quite impressed that he is giving her such power. They kiss.

Marina is surprised in her office by Jero in his best suit. She claims the baby is only hers.

Carlos’ parents are discussing the delayed wedding Mom is worried that they caused the wedding to be called off so she thinks she needs to go talk with Carlos. Papa says great, do you want me to come with you. No, Fancy Mom wants to go herself to talk with him and thinks it best not to give him any warning that she is coming.

Jero says the responsibility for this baby is on both of them and he doesn’t now why she would hide the news from him. Did she think he wouldn’t want to know? He assures her that he wants to have a role in the baby’s life. She says she didn’t want to tell him because they don’t have a relationship. But we did have one, he points out. He wants to take part. She doesn’t want her life tied to him. He observes that they will have ties forever because of this baby. She doesn’t want to impinge his relationshp with Renata or ruin his happiness.

She swears that she didn’t plan this (we hope) and he again repeats that she is mom he is dad for this baby. He wants no lies between them and says they were always honest with each other. And he promises to help take care of a child in all aspects. She says you’re incredible, you aren’t even questioning if I am telling the truth. He assures her that he knows she has always told him the truth. What do you propose? He says that we take part as mom and pop in raising this child.

Lazaro and Carlos argue one more time that Matilde knows, Kari is going to know any minute now that Dr. HaHaYouAreNotAWidow is not Dr. DustToDustAshesToAshes, but Lazaro still thinks she can’t stand knowing the truth. However, his resolve is more of a dissolve, no one else is backing his pointless gesture of protecting her from the truth.

We see a quiet Kari looking like she has a bundle but it is pillowcases with L and K lovingly embroidered on them. She mutters to herself that she was such a fool in her hopes. Alfonsina sleeps. Baby sleeps. Kari is sad. We are sad.

Renata is riding a brown horse over to Cruz sin Amor’s vineyard. She pulls up near Augustin, who says he is in a twist that she is persisting in staying with Jero. She insists that they are starting anew with out lies or tricks. He can’t believe it and especially after his spilling about the baby outrage. She says yes, she is with Jero in spite of the baby. He starts to jut the jaw and she quiets his spewing.

Marina is freaking freely in tears, I don’t want your money. Jero stays in kind and helpful mode, this isn’t my intention, He only wants to discuss the future of their child. She is glad to have a baby of his but didn’t intend to have a baby without him. She didn’t want to raise a child with a father who has another woman, or has a single mother or has a house that isn’t a home. Jero wants the best for the baby. You can count on me unconditionally for OUR baby. It will be a baby with a mother and a father. It will be a baby raised in love. He continues to repeat OUR baby. Marina cries even harder.

Renata tells Augie she knows he and Jero don’t get along , even can’t stand each other and yet she tried to tell him that she has enormous affection and gratitude for him and his treatment of her but she loves only Jero and will protect her marriage and her relationship and her happiness with Jero. As she mounts the horse she rode in on, she says oh can I ask a favor, will you have someone take care of having Gitana sent over to me. (There is the mystery given light about the beautiful Gitana) He nods but mutters that she will never tell him goodby, never! She rides away, leaving him with his angry sociopathic thoughts. I ride into commercial break with lots of worries about Gitana becoming a tool of his diabolical plans. Yikes.

Matias and Adriana come into the mainland hotel room and kiss talking about the business trip that turned into a mini honeymoon but he tells her that when they wed they will have a really long honeymoon. She gets the message from her Papa. In the next scene Hon and Con are wondering why they haven’t heard from her, well Hon is worrying. Adriana calls Hon who reports that they were worried. He wonders how she and Matias are doing since things seemed tense between then. Oh they are fine says Adriana. Matias gave a great talk that assured the clients they are doing well and she is sure they will be getting the clients back. We want to have a big talk (conferencia) with everyone when we get back. Hon gets off and can’t think what is going on and why Adriana is talking in plurals but Consta’s smile is enough to clue him into what is happening. He worries a bit about Chema, He hopes that none of you (his women ) will see Chema any more. She takes his hand and love rules the land for a moment.

Matias returns from the shower and Adri has him listen to Chema’s message on her cell phone which assures her of his love and wondering where she is. She repeats to the doubting Matias that something really weird is happening to Chema and she wants his help to get to the bottom of it. I assure you I ended everything with him but he is talking like we are in a relationship. This isn’t normal, it isn’t normal, she repeats. (alas poor Chema, I knew him Horatio. A fellow of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy…)

Doom music rolls as Regina and Inez arrive to visit Consta. They begin to talk about Regina’s wedding and Inez is convinced that nothing will be okay until Fina is caught. Regina talks about Antonio’s betrayal and tells the girls that he admitted that he was Fina’s accomplice and present when Fina scared her mom into her heart attack. Antonio felt responsible for Mom’s death. Slide to a church in Spain where Antonio prays for forgiveness for his sins in a church, kneeling in his priestly clothes in a line of priestly looking guys like so many crows on a high wire.

Gonzo and Hon visit bank manager, Luciana about their returning stability as a company and she has sometbing delicate to tell him. A few days before the news carried her flight from justice, she says your ex-wife Fina came to deposit a huge sum in her own name and account, it was the same amount, even in the same bag that Regina had carried out of Jero’s money. Gonzo praises Luciana, you did very well (to tell us) Gonzo says that this will help get the commandante on her trail and Hon thinks they should be able to freeze the account because it was extorted illegally. But the Luciana says the formal charges have to come from the complaint by the person she took the money from. Nothing else will enable the bank to freeze funds in an account.

Fina shops and talks about a wedding a few days. The sales woman is all a twitter at this big spender selecting so many things. They talk of how her husband must love her. Yes, she says I must find something special to wear they are going to a wedding soon. (Let’s hope that handsome comandante can distract her, she is dropping menacing hints by the bucket load.)

Kari and Manuela talk near a garden, Manuela is going to tell her something but Lazaro shows up and says we have much to talks about. She snidely says what would we have to talk about? Manuela says go talk with him, I will see you later in the kitchen. Kari reluctantly goes with Lazaro, well, what do you want to talk about? I lied to you. I’m going to tell you a truth that I only kept secret to protect you. What is it . About you husband. What? He is dead and buried. No, he isn’t dead, Alvaro is ALIVE! Our last image is Kari in Shock!

Previews: Regina is resisting turning Fina in for the money fearing reprisals on her dear little daughter, Jero gets to hit Augie again, Dr. dirt gets to rise again, Fina plans her surprise, maybe for the wedding. Roberta continues to peer behind doors being the rat without a future.

Cheryl, thank you for getting your recap up so quickly! I loved getting home late from a boring old meeting to find your luscious recap awaited.

Finally the bank manager spilled her guts about Fina's recent deposit! About time.

My two favorite Cherylisms were in one paragraph: "Dr. HaHaYouAreNotAWidow is not Dr. DustToDustAshesToAshes" and "his resolve is more of a dissolve". Nice!!

Ooooh, I love it when you quote Shakespeare with telenovela adjustments. Alas poor Chema indeed. Finally Adri is waking up from her besotted state to wonder what's up with our confused and addled chef.

"like so many crows on a high wire." Spoken by a woman with the true artist's eye. Not to mention all those guys looked like they were heavy handed with the Aqua Net. And why did Antonio's eyes seem NOT so reptilian all of a sudden?

Cheryl, thank you for your world-class recap. You started off with a wonderful title and carried on through with a tidal wave of narrative genius up to and including "Roberta continues to peer behind doors being the rat without a future". Oh my, we hit the jackpot with you tonight.

A happy breakfast read. This was wonderful Cheryl. Loved the "Dr. DustToDustAshesToAshes" so much and the "alas poor Chema, I knew him Horatio..." too. Nice that someone is starting to worry again about the poor guy.

Someone quick, get Gitano 24 hour protection. Chills went up my spine as soon as Nata asked Auggie.

Why am I suddenly getting bored with the whole Adri/Matias lovey-dovey scenes? I love Adri to death--guess I would rather have her in the thick of the plots. Sorry.

Speaking of bored--hats off to Jero and Tata for another intelligent conversation, but wish Tata wasn't all weepy the minute she starts talking lately. She has the Kari disease apparently.

Speaking of whom....thank you Laz!! At least she's prepared now for the idiot's return. Seems like all our skin-crawlers are heading back to plotsville - Antonio sighting as well. Oh joy (not).

Now, let's see what awful wig Fina shows up with tonight. That one last night--seriously?? Channeling her inner 1950's I guess. Yish!!

Off to work! Have a good day all.

I really don't know where to begin. Cheryl, this was amazing. In addition to what Sylvia and Daisy have already mentioned, "a ray of the light of personal epiphany", "a line of priestly looking guys like so many crows on a high wire","Roberta continues to peer behind doors being the rat without a future" and "...worries about Gitana becoming a tool of his diabolical plans" were marvelous. A delectable recap and wonderful embedded vocabulary.

My heart went out to both Kari and Marina. Kari must now fear for her life - I could not blame her for the wild shock in her eyes. Marina is saying and doing all the right things but her heart is breaking. She will survive but I feel for her pain.

I tire of Matilde's petulant tirades - she needs a strong dose of maturity - and quickly.

Diana

Thanks for all the wonderful detail and the wonderful vocabulary. I think I'm starting to get caught up. I assume Gitana is a horse...?

Cheryl- The lines everyone mentioned were my favorites as well. Great recap of an episode that seem to be setting up a lot of things.

Diana- I sympathize with Doc Marina too. I can understand her weepiness after just having her heart broken by a guy who went back to his wife, and then finding out she's pregnant by that guy. Add on top of that working with babies all the time and having an uncle back at home that keeps telling her I told you so. I think I would have stayed in my room a good week just feeling sorry for myself and crying.

I thought it was really mature of Nata to end her friendship with Augie in order to protect her relationship with Jero. She doesn't know what we know that this will just make Augie more obsessed. Actually, Jero should know that a move like this will tick Augie off and send him into dangerous mode with regard to Nata or him. I hope he finds an intelligent way to protect Nata, but the upcomning fight between him and Augie looks like he's falling into the same school boy behavior with Augie over Nata.

Yay! Kari knows the truth.

Matilde is not trustworthy with secrets and she should know that about herself. But Carlos is going to give her a chance. Let's see if she's actually able to keep the next big secret that comes her way. We, and Carlos, are waiting to see if she'll keep her word.

Great recap, Cheryl. Lots of good lines and my favorite also was:

"...line of priestly looking guys like so many crows on a high wire. "

perfect.

I agree Sylvia... his eyes did not seem so reptilian. Are we witnessing instant evolution? Is Tony the missing link between reptiles and mammals? Will he no longer need to lie on a warm rock to maintain his body temperature?

Lots of stuff going on but I think two characters are currently at most risk:

Chema and Gitana

Let's get Chema to a doctor and Gitana to a safe stall.

If the bank can't freeze Fina's account, surely the cops could monitor the activity on the account. She is a fugitive after all.

I'm glad that Carlos has decided to trust Matilde. Maybe she'll find a way to spill the beans to Augie... problem (for Kari and Laz) solved.

Carlos

Buenos Dias Amigos Mios. I too felt this was a set up episode again. My biggest fear is that Augie will go straight to Gitana for his dastardly plans to enslave Renata. Welcome to Blue Lass, yes Gitana is a magnificent white horse, obviously worth a mint. They are sparing in showing her and I would like to hear from any horse experts out there. The first few times we saw Gitana, she was so tall with a cascading white mane and a queenly air. I think the later shots show a wonderful horse indeed but she seems not so tall. Anybody?

Yeah, I am kind of practicing rough drafts on Chema's epitaph. It doesn't look too good for him. I have another hope that Hon and Matias won't block Constanza and Adriana from getting him help and kind care.

And the ONLY BANK IN DF with its only manager is a puzzle. I thought they were suggesting that Regina will have to make a claim of extortion, maybe that is right, before the police can seize or at least freeze the account.

The writers are giving up on Roberta, she is just cranky and nasty on the edges of the action, I had such hopes for her.

I love Carlos' reptilian, warmed by the sun image of our Antonio. After seeing a PBS show this week on the high intelligence of crows, perhaps I have chosen the wrong image for him but it still works visiually. His inner eyelid didn't blink as much so maybe he is finding a haven near the altar.

Cheryl -- Loved it -- start to finish. My most favorite lines have already been quoted but I also liked "MadMomma Fina" and "A really great looking and very special looking agent walks in the room to help corner the elusive, flighty Fina." Also "he livingdead down at the jail, aka Dr. Nesme just isn’t dead enough for anyone’s liking. Your recap really sparkles.

I am so glad that Kari finally knows the truth. I too am trembling with fear for Chema & Gitana. I'm with you Carlos "Let's get Chema to a doctor and Gitana to a safe stall."

Gúera

Hi Cheryl...add me to the group that was entranced by your "looking like so many crows on a high wire". Just a fantastic image. Arresting.

And Antonio DID look better. I thought perhaps it was the grizzled two-day growth of beard. At any rate, he was definitely less repulsive.

And woo-eee...like the new police lieutenant a lot. The chief looks like an unmade bed. This guy...well, just delectable. As was Matias in his white terrycloth robe.

Daisynjay...I think they did overdo the time spent on Matias and Adriana. Sweet but just too extended. I mean...we get it already! Now move on.

This show is doing quite a powerful PSA on the dangers of sex outside of marriage. Alfonsina's tough times and now Doc Ta-ta's anguish over having a child without a father who is also a husband....and harking back to the original tragedy of Roberta born outside of wedlock.

None of the usual sugarcoating about how easy it is to raise children all on your own. ( Heck, it's hard enough with two.) And I though Martha Julia's acting in those scenes with Jeronimo was excellent. I've only seen her play dangerous sexpots, but she's really good...and quite convincing in this role. Glad the writers gave her a more nuanced character this time.

Being the romantic that I am, I'm already thinking about who the handsome policeman could be hooked up with. My first thought was Marina. But now I'm thinking Roberta? Maybe a love to redeem her? What about Antonio for Marina--assuming he redeems himself. Gives him another opportunity for a family.Or maybe one of Carlos' elusive brothers?

Auggie's rage scene is frightening me even more now that I think Gitana will be on he receiving end of the aftermath of that.

Carlos' mama coming to visit. I'm afraid.

Cheryl: great recap. My biggest lol moment was the Shakespeare quote re: Chema.

Robey

Great recap; very witty. I loved the "Alas, poor Chema" line.

When the camera approached those men in black in the church from behind, at first I thought the mafia had dropped by. Then when they panned down to Antonio, I started laughing. A priest? This guy? Okay, sure. I'm not sure it's a good idea to put a guy who is already sanctimonious and controlling into that kind of position, but maybe seven years of counseling and confessions can work it out of him.

QTH is up with Carlos's parents? I thought they didn't want him to marry Matilde. Do they just enjoy playing mindgames with their kids?

So if Tony becomes a priest, what happens when his missing wife and daughter show up?

Carlos

I was only thinking that the handsome new agent would be able to attract Fina, maybe he could be a change agent so to speak for Roberta. I think Marina is not gong to settle now that she set her sights on Jero. She seemed to dislike Augie from first meeting with his controling nature that still fools Renata. I can't thnk of anyone she would like. She would have to go back to DF to get with the comandante so it is possible. Tio Padre is likely to drive her nuts if she stays in the village.

Wouldn't that be a little plot wrinkle, Carlos, if Antonio's long lost family miraculously reappears. I feel disappointed that he may hide in a sanctuary and never face his own cowardice. I'd like a helpful confession to aid in adding years to Fina's eventual prison sentence.

Good point about Antonio being able to witness against Fina. In fact, his knowledge alone could probably convict Fina and Regina could be bypassed entirely. That makes things potentially quite dangerous for him if he shows up, which he should do. Since we've seen him in the throes of searching his soul I assume he will return to make himself useful.

Thanks for the recap Cheryl. It was delightful!

I'm glad Kari knows her marido from hell is still alive. I'm hoping something miraculous will happen when he tried to get her; she'll fight back.

Is everyone sure Antonio is or studying to be a priest? I missed that. I saw the men he was kneeling with and they looked like priests, but I looked at his collar and didn't seem like he was wearing a priest's collar. Or so I thought.

Robey

Nicely done, Cheryl! Of course by the time I get to a computer on Tuesdays, everyone else has pretty much run the gamut on praise for your great lines. My favorite was about padre "begins to dial Jero to get more involved than anyone wants him to be". What a yente.

Thanks for being so thorough on the conversation between Jero and Marina. Between the music and her whispering and her dang clanking earrings, I could not pick up a word. That was a sweet, painful scene.

Since Chema is probably a goner, I will trade in my I Heart Chema shirt for an I Adore Panchito. How cute is he?

Blue Lass - Gitana is Renata's beloved, beautiful, white horse. Her soulmate.

Carlos - of course his wife and daughter will return once he's a priest! He will be so overwhelmed with love and appreciation that he will pay it forward and do the right thing for Regina. Let's hope.

Oooo I can't wait to see the horse. I hope it's not on a night I have class -- Youtube won't give me CME.

Where are Antonio's wife and daughter? I missed something here.

Kelly- It's just speculation. Antonio had a wife and daughter who died many years ago in a plane accident. In tns, when people have that kind of accident and bodies aren't found, a return from the "dead" usually follows.

I thought Gina-one note already heard Antonio's confession about Fina. Didn't she tell Inez and Con about it when she met with them?
