Una Familia Con Suerte #15 Tue 10/25/11 In which people and dogs run away crying

"The kids don't know anything," Chela tells Candy. "Just imagine if they found out what happened to you that time."

Later, Candy is stretching out on the lawn. She sees Vince's car approaching and stretches even more, wondering what he'd think if he knew she was Catgirl. He's so distracted staring at her that he crashes his car. (Awww, if only he knew some good auto mechanics.) Candy is pleased with herself.

For some reason, Gonzo didn't pick up the kids at school. Pancho tells him that's the most important thing.
Alex offers Pepe, Lupita, and Ana a ride home from school, but is rebuffed.

Lupita gets to the Casa Popular later than the kiddies would like. Some of them are old enough to know better, but they complain anyway. Who knew the little twerps would be such sticklers for punctuality? One of them says that her mom said that now that Lupita's peeps are millionaires, they don't love their old pals as much as they did before. Lupita runs away crying. Chela tries to cheer her up, then she changes the subject to what happened with Tomás. Chela isn't at all happy that they're back together, but Lupita explains that he begged on his knees.

Pancho is kind of miffed that they would make him president if they didn't like him the way he was. No no that's not true, yadda yadda yadda, it's just a question of image, blah blah blah, you're a swell guy and it's for your own good and your family's. And by the way, at her house tonight not only will she teach him to dress himself, but also how to eat.

With excellent timing, Alex shows up at the Casa Popular. Lupita tells him it's not a good idea for him to be there. He notes that she's been crying. She doesn't want any trouble. He thinks she deserves much better than Tomás. "You don't even know him!" "True, but he's made you suffer." He just wants one chance, one date with her. She says no. Meanwhile, Tomás and Pepe are driving around and see Alex with Lupita. Pepe doesn't let him out of the car.

Pancho compares himself to Pygmalion. Rebeca is impressed that he's familiar with the story. He'll change on the outside, but not on the inside. Then she teaches him to sign onto the computer. I think he says he's going to use La Burra's license plate number as his password. Their faces are close together, and their hands touch over the mouse, and there's mushy music, and Pancho gets a funny look in his eyes. Then they separate in a hurry. He looks disappointed. They review Vicente's miscellaneous expenses, which include not only his golf club membership, but the cost of "la Avispa" ("the Wasp"... he can't even remember Abeja's name!) as well. Pancho is bien horrified at the waste of money. They'll have to learn how to spend their own money and not Fernanda's.

Elena wants to know all about Lupita's life as a millionaire. Lup has only complaints. Elena is envious and asks about Alex, just in time for Tomás to show up. Before Lupita even has a chance to answer the question, Tomás calls her a liar. Elena even says she got in Alex's car! Tomás says the money's gone to her head. That's the last thing she needs to hear.

Ana has a sore throat because she's not used to sleeping in dry, air-conditioned air. She's afraid she won't be able to sing. (Plot point? I'm not sure. Oh no, then who will do the Pancho Lopez song?) At least she's okay in time for band practice.

Chucha is impressed with Chela's mole. Chela is hoping Pancho will reallllly like it. Pancho comes home with his new haircut. Chela makes a big deal about the family eating together like old times in the 'hood. Pancho remembers the last time they had a meal like that, it was when Fernanda had her first mole taco. The kids admit that they're not having a good time at school. Lupita tries to deny it, but Pepe says she has it worst of all. Pancho tries to get them to do a toast, but Chela is afraid they'll break their drinking glasses.

Meanwhile, Rebeca is setting the table for Pancho's table manners lesson when Vicente shows up uninvited. He flirts with her aggressively, backs her up against a wall, and doesn't seem to want to take no for an answer. She says his acoso and hostigamiento (both words for harrassment, I'm not sure what the difference is) was the reason she had to quit the company before. But she won't be so dumb this time, she won't quit just to get away from him. Vince scoffs that Pancho will be able to protect her. She says it's simpler than that. If he harrasses her like he did before, she'll have him thrown in jail! And she throws him out of her house. He steals a kiss from her first.

Candela admits to Pancho that she's working at Paraíso again and can't get out of her contract. He asks if she's forgotten what happened. Nope. Nico and Chacho show up and tease Pancho about his new 'do and going to Rebe's house tonight to learn dinner table etiquette. Nico notes that Chela is jealous. Pancho doesn't get it. Chela sulks in the kitchen. Candy warns her that Rebeca is going to steal him away.

Tomás is at the mansion too, to torture Lupita some more. She throws his words in his face, says she was never in Alex's car, it has nothing to do with money. He's still jealous. She's not sure if she's still in love with him any more, because he doesn't respect or trust her. "I'm not done talking," he says. "I am," Lupita replies, and runs away crying. Pepe and Chela yell at him. He really picked the wrong night to piss Chela off. She breaks down crying because she had a big family night planned and then Pancho's gone off with Rebeca. Tomás says she's jealous. She slaps him and runs away crying!

Fernanda calls Rebeca. It's 4AM in Germany, but cancer patients don't need any rest! Rebe tells him about Pancho wanting to cut the expense accounts. Fer is pleased. They'll put up a fight, but she thinks Pancho can handle it.

Chela weeps over her sister's picture. (It looks like she put on a couple of fresh coats of mascara first.) She can't help feeling that it's a sin to be in love with her brother in law.

Pepe tells Tomás there's no reason to doubt Lupita. "A thief always thinks everyone is like him." He says Lupita is the one family member who has NOT changed. If he's not nice to her, he'll lose her.

Freddy drops Mo off at home after a date. As soon as she's all by herself, she thinks about Pepe.

Rebeca puts all of Pancho's new clothes on the sofa, still in their bags, and tells him it's a test to see if he can put together a good outfit by himself. She'll wait in another room. He tries on a lot of things but doesn't like the way any of them look together. He calls Candela, who's in the hot tub, to help him match his clothes over the phone.

Pina looks like a space monster, with her hair in rollers and some kind of gooey mask. Vince says that despite having declared war on the greengrocer's family, he's not going to turn their dog in. He has to make friends with them, no matter how much it hurts. Pina wants to call the dog-catcher on Popeye instead. Abejita runs away crying!

After some time, Rebe asks if Pancho is ready. He's in a perfectly matched outfit.

Next time:
Although I've found these avances to be very misleading, it does appear that Rebeca likes Pancho's outfit.

I had intended to do a much shorter recap, but I caught a second wind. Much to my surprise, I've had more energy for the Tuesday recaps than the Friday ones. I was really interested to hear what the deal was between Rebeca and Vicente.

Hi Julie! And Melinama. I'm not reallly following this one, but wanted to pop in and say how much I am enjoying your wonderful recaps on Pasión.

Monday night I kinda freaked when I finally realized that Pina was Lisabeta, la ciega, in Pasión. It was just very disorienting when I finally placed the distinct voice and mannerisms as they barely look alike.

I am just in love with Mario, Ric's right hand man. Oh, wait! Not this TN! Never mind ;)

Back to this one. My husband was sure enjoying the views afforded by RrrreVEca's little black dress.

Cheers!

Audrey

My, you certainly did catch your second wind. Hopefully that means your pounding headache is better? Cute title.

I totally missed that Pancho compared himself to Pygmalion. Thanks for pointing that out.

I was very glad that Pepe told Tomas that a thief always thinks everybody is like him. I think Lupita also said something to that effect, that he didn't believe her because Tomas himself is a cheat. And what was up with Elena joining in the fight? She is a royal PIA. I don't see that she is Lupita's friend at all.

Um, Candy's stretching outfit was amazing. No wonder Vince cracked up his car.

Great recap Julie! Thank you. What a delightful surprise and I really hope that your 5-day headache is better.

I too hope you have recovered! I was really enjoying the essence of Pancho last night - the actor inhabits him so comfortably! And Sendel is an utter riot. And Pepe is going to be the next hot thing in telenovelas, he is great.

Thanks Julie. Your recaps are a delight to read. Love it that you noticed the time disparity. Fernanda calling Rebeca at 4 am!??? Well, maybe she's on spiritual time...up at 4 to pray. That's usually the schedule in the convents, from what I understand.

Julie- What a wonderful recap! And while recovering from a terrible headache too. Thank you!

Both Rebe and Candela were wearing enticing outfits last night. Still not sure why Chela calls Rebe anorexic, since the girl is all curves. I could understand if she called Pina that.

It's time for Chela to have a makeover too and emerge from those aprons and dowdy dresses. From Dinero, we know this actress has some killer curves too.

Lupita needs to dump Tomas AND his sister. What a terrible boyfriend and friend. Next time Alex asks, she should say yes.

Is Pancho being willfully blind about Chela being in love with him? Does he feel something for her too, but can't cross the sister-in-law line? It's very painful to watch. It's not like she gets a break from her feeling either since they live under the same roof.

I think Pancho loves Chela like a sister (or sister-in-law), I love how he calls her cuni when he's wheedling her, and he wants her to be happy, but the complexity of the situation is not something he knows how to deal with. Asking her to massage his feet and sing to him is only a short-term fix!

I agree, it's a short term fix that might even hurt in the long run. I was thinking during the massage scene that the last thing Chela needs is physical contact with Pancho. Massages can be kind of intimate. The actress was a knockout in Querida Enemiga. I haven't seen her in anything else, and I'll believe Vivi about her looks in Dinero, but they manage to make her look surprisingly dowdy in this show.

Yes, I'm all recovered. Thanks. I think five days is a record. I hope that record stands for a long, long time. The good thing is that cluster headaches usually aren't constant. They come and go over a period of days, but at least they do go away for a while each day.

Hi Audrey! I was as freaked as you when I realized that Pina was the former Lisabeta. And it was her voice for me, too. I really liked Mario in Pasión, but I LOVED Ascanio. Haven't liked him as much in anything else I've seen him in, but Ascanio was an awesome character.

I think it's bizarre too that Chela and Candy call Rebe anorexic, consumptive (tísica), etc. Maybe it's to show that they're not very good at insults, and/or that they can't find anything legitimate to criticize her for.

I think Pancho sees Chela as a sister, like Candy, and would need some kind of hard shock to see her any other way. Yes, she's gorgeous under all those frumpy aprons and housecoats. I noticed that the night of the "event" at Avon, she was wearing a dress that would have knocked Pancho or anyone dead if she hadn't been hiding it underneath a giant cardigan.

Elena is a big troublemaker - I think she enjoyed being friends with Lupita when she felt superior to her, but now that Lupita has money and a hot fresa following her around, Elena is jealous and spiteful. There may be more to it than that, but maybe that's enough.

Someone asked yesterday how the vet knew that Abejita's dalliance with Popeye was consensual. The vet did say that there were "no lesions" and she seemed happy, but I think he was just humoring Vince and Pina.

The real answer is simpler. He told them it's likely that Little Bee is preggers, which means she was in heat. When a dog is in heat, EVERYTHING is consensual (to the extent that consent is even a meaningful concept for dogs).

And with the way Veenz and Pina shelter that poor animal, Popeye is probably the first male dog she's seen in years. No doubt she was ready for love even before he showed up!

Thanks, Julie...I'm still having problems with the rapid-fire dialogue in this show on top of my lousy Spanish, though seeing Rebeca walking away from Pancho in a tight black dress in slo-mo makes it alll riiiight (high-fives Audrey's husband).

Is anybody else just kind of waiting for The Hair to change/die, though?

Bill, which one is The Hair?

Heh...good point. :) In this case I meant Pancho; it probably goes with the whole Pygmalion makeover thing, I guess, but The Hair's so incredibly messed up it actually distracts from him.

Hi Julie!

Marcelo Córdoba is currently playing Antolín in La Fuerza del Destino, and his character is Ssssssizzling hot! He has a leaner, meaner look that is very good for him. In fact, he totally upstages the lead galáns David Zepeda and Gabe Soto. Obviously Marcelo is way overdue for a lead galán role - he has amazing presence. What are they waiting for?

Audrey

Re: The Hair

I thought Pancho was just going for that Maestro Beethoven look. No?

LOL!

Audrey

Yeah, I've seen Marcelo in Fuerza de Destino, but I don't like the show enough to watch him in it. And I thought he was just "eh" in Alborada. But I really liked his character in Pasión.

Okay Bill, no wonder I was confused. Pancho just got a haircut. I admit it's not a radical change, but it is a good change - I HATED it before. It looked unwashed and uncombed. It's much better now. But yeah, there could be a lot less of it. Maybe the idea is to not improve his appearance too much right away.

Enjoyed the recap. I missed earlier episodes so there's one thing I'm not clear on. Is Candela aware that Chela has been in love with Pancho all this time (even when he married her sister)? Seems like Candela would be a good one to give Chela advice on how to move on.

Niecie, Candela is aware. At one point she tried to reassure Chela that it wasn't a sin for her to want the husband of her long-dead sister. She's even encouraged Chela to do something about it before "la tísica" (Rebe) snaps him up. It looks to me as though Candy would be really happy if they got together.

I don't think Chela has ever actually admitted to anyone how she feels, even to Candy, even though Candy knows. If Chela can't even bring herself to say it to Candy, then there's no sense in Candy trying to talk to Pancho about it. And Pancho seems determined to avoid knowing the obvious for as long as possible.
