Una Familia Con Suerte #16 Wed 10/26/11 Pancho hires an image consultant in purple spandex
Rebe, teaching Pancho upper-class manners, wants him to taste the wine but he gargles it instead. She asks if he's ever been in love since his wife died - he says he promised Laura he'd die when she did. Rebe has called a meeting of the executives for the next day and tells Pancho to be dressed as elegantly as he is at this moment.
Chela reads Pancho's contract three times and is irate that all Pancho's decisions need to be ok'd by Rebeca - that will keep him tied to her. Candy is rather callous: "If you don't want Pancho to run off with her, you better start going to the gym the way she does." Oh, now I get it. They are wrapping Chela in frowsy clothes to imply she also has a dumpy body, which we know (from previous shows) is not true! So she can have a big reveal later!
Pancho dances in with his bags and hangers of new clothes. He shows Candy how great he looks (thanks to her phone consultation about colors) and says Rebe was blown away. Chela mopes. Though he protests that he's the same Pancho on the inside, he can't sleep and wanders around wondering if she's right, and he's putting on airs. He doesn't want to lose himself.
Vince tells Pina she has to apologize to the neighbors, they have to make friends with them in order to discover their weaknesses, regain what is rightfully theirs, and grind Pancho into pieces.
Lupita tells Chela she kind of likes Alex and wishes Tomas were not such a macho brute - and if she wants to change him, that means she probably doesn't love him and is sticking with him out of habit. Pancho enters, ready for work in his new clothes, and Chela gives him a flower to perfect the outfit.
Vince is practicing in the mirror again, trying to figure out how to apologize: "No, no, Mr Lopez. I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing with you! ... it was the heat of the moment ... it was your RASCALLY LOWDOWN HORNDOG HUMPING MY PRECIOUS ... no, no..."
He's interrupted by bimbo Sandra, who's been missing him... Arnolda informs him about the meeting of executives... he goes hand in hand with Arnolda down to the lobby to greet Pancho, who will not shake hands since they are at war! Vince apologizes: we shouldn't fight like dogs, I'm sorry, Pancho accepts his apology but still doesn't get his name right.
Pancho expects Rebe to love his outfit but she hates it, especially the flower from Chela whom she deems to be the epitome of bad taste. Pancho takes umbrage: "I've started to like you, but if you don't respect my family things are going to go very badly between us."
In the cafeteria Pepe flirts with Monica and wants to kiss her. I think he's pretty darn convincing, but she slaps him and insults him, and he walks away, evidently having had enough. She looks a little regretful.
On the way out the door to the old neighborhood, Chela is intercepted by Pina who does a rotten job of trying to make friends and invites her to be a guest on the radio show as a representation of authentic Mexican pueblo. Chela appears somewhat taken by the idea.
Pancho asks Rebe to sit in La Burra's driver's seat: he wants a chair just like it for his office. She protests: he already has an ergonomically correct chair. He is so enthusiastic leaping about in the cab that they almost kiss.
Pina's snobby friend is amazed Chela's been invited over for coffee, but Pina says they'll be able to mock her to their heart's content. The maid, Adoracion, who's been told to spy on the neighbors, says that may not go so well, and that in fact Chela probably won't come since she takes breakfast to the kids at the old place every morning. No matter, Pina tells the friend she's invited Chela to be on the radio show and the whole country will laugh at her vulgarity.
Candy comes to Avon to see Pancho wrapped in a purple sparkly spandex mini. She doesn't like what Pancho's wearing, he says "I wanted your advice but you left home early and didn't answer your phone;" she says he should hire her to be his image consultant. He does. She goes running home to choose him a better outfit (I actually thought this one was fine). This nepotism may cost him!
Monica, Alex, and Freddy lunch with a snobby girl. Alex defends Lupita: "She's the best, and deserves the best."
The packages Chela took to the casa popular turn out to be (Lupita says) from a foundation that she'd written to asking for help for the kids. However, it later appears that Alex, perhaps, sent these things, because he loves the work she does there. Lupita goes to the internet cafe and makes up with her friend Elena. She's there to write an email thanking the foundation for the stuff they sent.
Rebe brings papers to Pancho for signing (as usual he says he trusts her and doesn't read them). He's about to tell her about hiring Candy when Rebeca brings up her concern: how short Candy's skirts are (etc). Vince and Arnolda and Enzo are having a pre-meeting meeting to plot and connive - Vince sees Candy come strutting/bouncing out of the elevator and is so alterado he drops his phone (heh heh).

I didn't think Pancho's outfit was bad enough to deserve such scorn from Rebeca either. It wasn't the best possible color combo, but it wasn't ridiculous.
Vince and Pina continue to delight. I still don't get the point of the Arnoldo character, though.
I love watching Vince blow a gasket. Funny stuff.
ITA Rebe is getting annoying. I fear this is just the beginning for this character, sigh. I was hoping for a bit more depth with this character but we'll see.
I hope Chela goes on the radio show and becomes super popular (no pun intended) with her homespun ways.
I was glad to see Pancho tell Rebe off for insulting his sister and sister-in-law. She crossed the line. Big time. I hope she learns her lesson.
I also hope/suspect that Chela will be a hit on the talk show. She actually gives great advice. I love the advice she has been giving Lupita about her cheating boyfriend. Now, if only Lupita would give that sweet Alex a chance. I like the way he had no shame in telling all his rich snobby friends how he feels about her. A man who's secure in himself. Just the opposite of her current novio.
I want more doggy action on this show, too. I was hoping for a thought bubble from little Abejita last night.
As for the dogs, I admit I can only take so much of those cheesy voiceovers. But I love it when Abeja runs away yelping whenever one of her humans says something offensive.
UA y Julie, I was thinking the same thing, Chela will get her own show, the Mexicana Martha Stewart. That would send Pina over the edge, except she's already there. All the characters are doing a great job, especially Sergio Sendel.
I love the dogs & the voices are cute.
I don't think Enzo is such a bad guy, besides being guapo. He's a good dad, except he doesn't like the mechanic, he'll come around.
I think the Arnoldo role will develop, after all, it's Julio Bracho, Simon Bolivar among other things. He even looks like Simon Bolivar.

Thank you so much for the recap, sharp, funny, and succinct, as usual!
I'm dying to see what happens when Candy is unmasked by Vince tonight. I am enjoying their storyline for some reason.
I must say Candela looks quite fetching in her inappropriate outfits--can hardly blame Vince for salivating. She's much more enticing than the icy Rebeca.
But good Lord, I nearly aspirated my dinner when Julio hoisted the secretary's boobs to a higher level. He's getting away with a lot, pretending to be gay.
Pancho is not meant to be sartorial. I much preferred him with his tie half-way looped around his neck. Gave him that rakish devil-may-care look.
And Pina, what a vision! The actress played such a tortured character in Mi Pecado, and of course Lisabetha in Pasión. I really admire her range.
I can post the one from telenovela world, but I wont do it if you say so.
I could just post a link, if that's preferred
