La Fuerza del Destino #67 Tue 11/08/11
Labels: Fuerza
Part One:
Here’s what I remember of the episode, (in no particular order) --
The lying fools in Alamos proceed with the not so simple wedding of Camilo and Lucía. All the guests have been warned, per Lucía’s request, not to tell Iván and Tony.
Mondragóns present: two
Juan Jaime deems it politic to be there; David comes out of friendship for the couple.
Mondragóns absent: 2.
Judith is too heart-broken to go; and Ester’s absence is a deliberate snub.
Most vile moment at the wedding: Juan Jaime ogling Carolina, “la cieguita”
[Most vile moment outside the wedding: Juan Jaime spewing his verbal abuse in Judith’s direction, now that Saúl isn’t available as a target.]
Just before the civil ceremony, Carlota gives Lucía the hot potato pearls and Lucrezia sniffs crankily that SHE didn’t get any jewels from her mother on her wedding day. The gesture would have been more touching if the pearls had looked better with Lucía’s too frou frou dress and befeathered hair. Ni modo. To Camilo – who, by the way, cleans up nicely – she is and will forever be the most beautiful girl in the world.
We are spared the consumation of the wedding but treated to a sweet postcoital shot after the couple slip away for a brief luna de miel at the beach. Camilo is in heaven. Lucía is in ... purgatory? The main thing is that both are in bed. Without birds. Or petals.
Later we see Love amid the manure: Camilo is teaching his beloved to drive a tractor.
Juan Jaime handily defeats the opposition and wins another term as president of the Ag Assn. Even Carlota and Camilo hold their respective noses and raise a hand in his support. JJ’s new second, Antolín, sits silently at his side.
Arcelia gets to meet Carolina and the two take a liking to one another. Arcelia gives the young woman flowers and Carolina is pleased, delighting in their aroma and texture. She likes Arcelia’s voice, she tells her almost suegra. And Arcelia replies that Carolina is even prettier than Antolín said she was.
One of Lucía’s girlfriends from the university seems quite taken with David. Nice.
Carmen starts her English and computer studies.
El Gordo pays his respects to Saúl in the hospital in Hermosillo. Saúl manages to croak out: Antolín did this to me!
While in the City of Angels:
Mister Anthony continues to walk around the mansion – which, by the way, has all the warmth of a mausoleum – in dressing gown and bare legs, the ankles showing the impressions of recently removed socks.
Alex, only a few months ago a happy, well-adjusted kid in a harmonious home with a loving father and mother, settles into the material luxury and emotional penury his REAL father provides. He closes himself off to MP’s rejection but is disturbed by her open conflict with Iván. Iván does his best in the hours he can steal from work to be with his son. But mostly, Alex seems alone and solemn. It’s a growing sadness not even Bruno can cure.
Iván, unaware that metiche Tony has spread the word about his night of “Let’s pretend the DWMMB is Lucía”, again takes up his vow of abstinence. Too little, too late, buster.
On Tony’s advice, he increases MP’s credit card limit. This buys him nothing – she’ll only be fake-nice to Alex if Iván sleeps with her and sleeps with her every night. No deal.
So MP continues to ignore “his” son and she gets her satisfaction elsewhere – we get a glimpse of the DWMMB clawing at her friend’s husband. And Iván mopes around and moons over cellphone photos of Lucía (I guess even the wall sides with Lucía and that amorous relationship is kaput).
Incredibly, the Alamos folks manage to keep Lucía’s marriage from McGuire ears. He is still dreaming of winning her back while fearing she may have met someone else...
Time passes
The Galvan – Curiel extended family settles in at the ranch. I guess Camilo is cashing in the dividends of his years of living with cranky women because he seems to manage the Curiel matriarchs with aplomb.
Lucía’s belly pops out. Really. One scene, nada. Next scene, there it is.
Lucía is in pain ... it’s time ...
¡Miér...coles! My DVR stops here. The final moments, anyone?
Gloria- I hope you're ok.
The last moments had Lucia giving birth to her baby girl with everyone waiting in the hospital for the news. Camilo is over the moon about "their" daughter. Lucia looks much like she did after she and Camilo made love the first time-- obviously thinking of Ivan.
Meanwhile Ivan gets antsy to have SOME news of Lucia and feels it's time to make a visit to Mexico. In the previews it shows him preparing to return, and Camilo, with his wife and baby, none too pleased about it.
Thank NM and Vivi for your recaps. I don't think I've seen a TN with the protagonists married to other people (or maybe it's been a while). I know someone mentioned it the other day but I hope Camilo doesn't die while I'm fairly confident MP will.
Now my issue with Lucia is that if she's going to commit herself to this relationship, then she needs to do it whole heartedly. Enough with the sadness and longing looks during the wedding, during kisses, and after making love. What a drag for Camilo.
This wasn't the first time Celia and Caro met, but it was their first formal meeting. The last time Celia was crying and begging for her help with Anto. This time they actually got to be social and they really like each other.
I was also grossed out by JJ leering at Caro. He also called her a little doll (muñequita). I'm starting to think he has a thing for meek, timid looking women (like Alicia, Esther and Caro). That's why he never married Lucrezia and never seemed to have lascivious thoughts about MP. If Anto even catches him looking too long at Caro though, he will kill JJ.
How in the heck did they keep Lucia and Camilo's marriage and baby on the way a secret from the McGuires for over 7 months?!
Vivi, Lucia has never been happy that I can remember so I doubt that Camilo even notices.
Camilo has just taken over Ivan's life and seems very smug about it. I don't think I would want him for a friend.
JJ is just pond scum!
The last scenes with the wait in the hospital was a surprise. Everyone seemed happy for once and not glaring at each other.
Poor little Alex, he seems so sad. How can a mother mistreat her child. He is just a pawn in MP's sick game. Too bad she is in this TN to the bitter end. Has Lucia been in contact with Alex other than the when they first moved to DF?
Rosemary
When Lichita asked who Lucia was, I think Carmen told her Lucia was some kind of slut. If true, look who's talking. At least Lucia found somebody to be the baby daddy and marry her, unlike Carmen.
I wonder what's going to happen when Juliet finds out Maripaz has been sliming all over her husband?
" I don't think I've seen a TN with the protagonists married to other people (or maybe it's been a while)."
In "El Clon", Lucas and Jade (played by Sandy E!) both married other (and arguably hotter) people and it took them 20 years to get back together. As luck would have it, neither had aged a day.
Vivi:
Thanks for filling in the ending -- I hope they repeat it tonight.
As for JJ and his progeny -- very Darwinian. Kind of like the Survival of the Meanest.
Anon207:
I could be wrong but I thought Carmen told Lichita that Lucía was just a girl, nothing special. (I can't recall the exact words.)
JJ did so many things to deserve strangling, but I think his treatment of Judith was the worst. She really needs to get away from him. Esther isn't a much better. A "there, there" and a pat on the head hardly makes up for the abuse she allows her husband to inflict on their kids.
I'm surprised Ivan or Tony hasn't taken Alex back to Alamos for a visit, given how miserable he's been. What's the obstacle, other than plot contrivance? They have plenty of money and it isn't far; easy to do in a weekend.
I didn't think Carmen told Lichita that Lucia is a slut, just that she is some ordinary dame, nothing special. Camilo obviously disagrees.
Are there ever going to be fireworks when Ivan returns and finds out how Camilo has taken care of things. I can hardly wait.
El viejo verde JJ better watch out, if Antolín catches him ogling Carolina there will be a lot of trouble.
Tks all for filling in for Gloria
Variopinta
Most of what I would post has already been said, but the business with JJ ogling Carolina can't have enough said about it:
1. JJ is a predator. Now that his wife and daughter are starting to stand up to him he's scoping out a new victim. A blind woman is easy prey to someone like him.
2. He doesn't entirely trust Antolin although he knows nothing about Antolin's responsibility for Saul's accident. This would be the one-upmanship game he didn't play with David or Saul and couldn't play with Ivan.
I like that David has found somebody and that Lucia is talking him up to her. Here's hoping that he protects her from JJ.
Carmen has some fricking nerve talking the way she does about Lucia. Camilo will not like that one bit.
It looks like at least a year has passed before Ivan decides to go back. This will be a two-hour mess tonight. Yikes!
I may need to take a few zzzz's this afternoon to prep for this.
I get Lucia still pining over Ivan and what could have been, but Tony is right that Ivan lost the right to demand Lucia's love when he slept with MP. He blew it, big time, and now he must suffer. At least until the writers say so. Camillo is still a good guy so maybe they'll still give him a shot with Judith. If Ivan gets back there quickly enough and we don't have another big time jump, this could be possible before the baby gets too old.
And Judith needs to GET OUT. She has some education and can't stand her father, so why not go against his wishes and get a job? There must be some high class friends of her mothers who need a decorator. Luckily, JJ may be signing his own death warrant if he goes after Carolina. Jerk.
I'm guessing Iván will demand a paternity test and the results will show that the baby's father is not Iván but a close blood relative. The only possible candidate would be Saúl. Carlota will have to fess up about what Cleto found in the front seat of the car on that terrible night.
Jaws will be clenched. Walls will be punched. Eyes will brim with tears. There won't be a lot of snotty, mucousy crying, fortunately, since only Carolina is a snot crier and ella no tiene vela en este entierro.
As for J3 and Carolina: considering they made a point of his ogling her three times, I've got a really bad feeling about where that's going to go. The one and probably only good thing about it is that, if they are going there, it drives two stories--J3's eternal jerkdom, see also the late Alicia, and Antolin's dark side. (Calling it: if J3 touches her, Antolin will kill or maim him when he inevitably finds out.)
Lucia's hot friend calling David a "good man" out of nowhere seemed like a huge neon sign too, but at least that should lead to a happy ending for the poor guy.
On another note, I find Camilo to be a better kisser than Ivan, or at least there's seems to be a bit of chemistry between he and Lucia in the kissing scenes--more like feelings of warmth and not possession.
But now in every other scene* Ivan is pouring himself some alcohol or clutching a liquor glass and he needs to stop. I realize being around MP is depressing & makes you want to drink but still.
Camilo "took care" of Lucia, all right. I'm just afraid that Camilo will have to die for Lucia & Ivan to get back together & for Ivan to get his land back.** Because I don't see Camilo saying "Oh you're back, here's Lucia. Thanks for letting me borrow her. Peace out." And I don't want Camilo to die but that crow lurking in Camilo's background (in the going to/from commercial spots) is not good.
I don't feel sorry for Lucia not being with Ivan b/c she had her chance to marry Ivan (b/f MP filed for custody) and didn't do it.
David needs to let Judith stay with him for a while until she can get herself together.
*If Ivan isn't drinking, he's sitting alone in a dark room crying.
**If Camilo dies, Lucia would inherit his third of El Socorro and you know she would give it back to Ivan.
Iván's look sloppy.
Variopinta
I do think Antolín will die, I can't get past the Romeo & Juliet thing a few episodes ago.
I believe MP will die in an accident, drunk of course.
The other bad guys, JJ, Lucrecia, Saul, El Gordo, who knows?
Variopinta
This show is breaking with tradition, though, with Lucia being intimate with Camilo. Who knows what other telenovela rules the writers will dispense with? Maybe Camilo and Lucia will stick together and she'll fall in love with him for real.
Lucia/Ivan simply did it to themselves, I just can't seem to muster pity for them, which we're supposed to do in TN's? Just not happening here.
I am anticipating how Lucia remembers that she was raped? I can't wait for that to come to the forefront, and I have to believe it definitely was Saul. Will Lucia prosecute him or will she be a doormat as she's been with MP? I wonder what secret of the family would prevent her from going after Saul? Will Saul say MP is a tramp and thus keep Lucia quiet? It's always about MP.
You can say many things about Lucrazia but I think she does care about her children, unlike MP and JJ.
I don't like the way she treats her hijas o her madre o her ex Gerado o the servants. She is horny, maybe getting a little will make her a better person.
I doubt she will die but some punishment & groveling is in order.
Variopinta
WHAT IS IVAN GOING TO SAY WHEN HE FINDS THAT OUT...
No wonder Carlota covered up the rape. While I was ready to rip her a new one for that because Lucia should know, I suspect she was concerned about Lucrazia's reaction.
I seem to remember when Iván was attacked at her beckoning, she asked if Iván was dead, hoping that he was. Now that he has money, the money grubbing bitch wants him in her family for her own benefit.
Variopinta
Following novela logic, I just don't see our star-crossed duo getting together without their respective spouses going the way of the black crow! But maybe we'll be surprised with some more modern attitudes. Bad for plot that the chemistry between Ivan and MP and Lucia and Carmelo seems to be better than that between Ivan and Lucia!
Tony and Carlota have certainly turned out to be metiches of the first order. Too much truth and too much deception all at once.
Judith, Antolin, David -- more interesting stories and characters.
It is unbelievable that Ivan would know nothing in LA about Lucia and Carmelo in this era of cell phones and easy travel.
I am liking Camilo and I agree with everyone else, he has so much more chemistry than Ivan with Lucia. I am warming to Camilo more and more in this novela and I hope that the black crows don't seal his fate.
That there was a civil ceremony is encouraging, maybe Camilo has a chance. I wouldn't even mind if he ended up with Lucia.
Thank you for this wonderful recap. I am now fortifying myself for tonight's 2-hour experience.
Antolin... I'm rooting for you too!! What a doll.
And Berenice is hot for David? What about cute little receptionist girl he took to the wedding? Will there be a triangle for David? He has been (disappointingly) such a tiny part of the plot so far...
Totally agree about Camilo & Lucia's chemistry--pleeease let him come out of this okay! Ivan, well, he's going to have to find someone else to take to the chicken coop.
