La Que No Podía Amar- El Elenco y Personajes/Cast and Characters
Ana Paula Carmona played by Ana Brenda Contreras
Brave, cheerful and of strong character. She loves her brother Miguel and adores her Aunt Rosaura, who has cared for them since they were young and their mother died. She works hard at her job as a nurse to support her brother and aunt and help get them ahead. She believes in true love and she finds it when she meets Gustavo.
The esmas site did not have anything listed for Miguel, so I did google search so I could include a picture and actor name, but I will not conjecture about his character. Here's a link to an article (in Spanish) about his return to TV.

Rogelio Montero played by Jorge Salinas
Handsome, manly, intelligent and short-tempered. He suffered a terrible accident that changed his life which hardened his temperament even more. He falls selfishly and passionately in love with Ana Paula and tries to keep her at his side at all costs.
Gustavo Durán played by José Ron
An attractive, romantic and talented engineer in hydraulics. He works to conserve water. He is of noble heart and knows how to sacrifice for love and to hold back for the woman he loves. From the moment he sees Ana Paula he recognizes her as the love of his life.
Cinthia Montero Báez played by Susana González
Attractive, sure of her charms, sensual and capricious. She feels like she is wasting her life in the hacienda her brother Rogelio is forcing her to live in. She falls in love with Gustavo who changes her and makes her look at life differently.
Bruno Rey played by Julián Gil
Bruno is seductive and manipulative. An excellent lawyer who uses his talent for negative things. He is calculating and uses people for his benefit. He hates Rogelio as much as he fears him and loves Ana Paula as much as he wants to use her to become a millionaire by swindling Rogelio.
Rosaura Flores Nava played by Ana Bertha Espín
She's cunning, a blackmailer, a liar and very ambitious...capable of even betraying her own niece. She now feels she needs to do something to secure her future since, as she tells her niece and nephew, she will soon become and old, sick woman.
Daniela Gutiérrez played by Ingrid Martz
Best friend and confidante of Ana Paula. She sincerely loves Miguel and it hurts her that he's so immature and doesn't appreciate her.
Vanesa Galván played by Mar Contreras
Beautiful and similar in appearance to Ana Paula. She abandons Rogelio when she finds out about the condition he's left in after the accident. Capricious, arrogant, haughty and superficial she does unjust* things to get what's hers. *Translation note: the site uses the word "indebidas" which can also mean illegal...we will have to wait and see!
María Gomez played by Ana Martín
A humble, caring, maternal woman and excellent cook who has lived in Hacienca Del Fuerte since she was a girl. There she knew the father of Rogelio and Cinthia and cared for the children as if she were their second mother. As soon as Ana Paula arrives at the hacienda, María becomes her protector.
Efraín Ríos played by Fabián Robles
Poor, tough and very sensual. He's the foreman of Hacienda Del Fuerte. He has a passionate relationship with Cinthia although he knows it won't go very far or lead to anything lasting. He's the right hand man of Rogelio. He's womanizer who plays with Consuelo's affections.
Ingeniero David Romo played by Jorge Aravena
Civil engineer by trade, he manages his father's construction business. David does everything to win Cinthia but when he discovers she loves another he doesn't give up and finds a way to get even.
Hugo Dueñas played by Uriel del Toro
A worker that Rogelio assigns to take him around, help him dress and other duties. He's always liked Maripaz and doesn't like to get involved in problems because he is discreet. He obeys Rogelio in everything.
Fermín Peña played by Ignacio López Tarso
A simple, kind and wise older gentleman. An expert fisherman who takes Gustavo with him to fish and helps Ana Paula when she arrives in the small pueblo. He advises both Gustavo and Ana Paula.
Federico Galván played by Humberto Elizondo
Successful businessman and owner of the most important meat-packing plant in the southeast. He is serious and formal, but as a youth he fell in love with another woman and left without knowing she was pregnant. For Federico what matters most is his daughter Vanesa and finding his other daughter that he had with Mariana...the love of his life.
Mercedes Durán played by Anaís
The chief of nurses in the hospital in Tuxtla who takes her work seriously. She adores her brother and wants him to marry a good woman. She's caring, conservative, hard-working and discreet. She has a great relationship with a spinal specialist (Ernesto) since when they were younger, they were novios. Nevertheless, though they have re encountered each other, he is now married.
Consuelo Herrera played by Michelle Ramaglia
A sweet, simple young lady that works at Hacienda Del Fuerte helping her godmother María with kitchen and house duties. Because of love she makes mistakes and her dignity will be trampled.
Maripaz Hernández played by Tania Lizardo
Maripaz isn't sure what she wants to do with her life. She's not much for studies and since she finished high school, she's dedicated herself to helping her parents in their business. As soon as she meets Miguel she falls in love with him.
Margarito played by Bernardo Flores
An orphan abandoned and the Hacienda Del Fuerte. He dreams of finding his parents. He comes to love Ana Paula who protects him, takes care of him and educates him.
Elsa de Galván played by Elizabeth Dupeyron
Federico's wife and Vanesa's mother. She spends her life reproaching her husband for falling in love with another woman, for which she has never forgiven him.
Ulises Hernández played by Germán Gutiérrez
The town shop-keeper. He lives in constant conflict with his wife, who wants to leave the pueblo. Ulises sees no future for them anywhere else.

Well, as I said in the call for recappers, I've gotten a head start on this one. (I never was able to understand a novela without recaps and/or CCs before, but for some reason with this one, I was able to follow along by just listening! I feel like this is a huge breakthrough for me! Woop woop woop!)
Anyway, I have really enjoyed the story so far and am hooked for real. Of course, like every. single. novela. out there, it has its ups and downs, aggravating moments, and beanie-flipping times. But I won't reveal any spoilers, I promise!
I really liked the cast in this one, and there are familiar faces as well as some new ones. It was nice seeing "Flippy" (Philipe) from "Soy tú dueña" in this one, he plays Efrain (or however you spell it) and is very different from Flippy. There's also Fabian from "Triunfo del amor," he also plays a nice guy in this one. Cutberto from "Teresa" plays a nice doctor in this one, he's got a beard and is less fun than Cutberto but a nice character. And Ana Martin plays a similar character to the one she played in "Soy tú dueña" (where she played the nanny/housekeeper). I always like her.
I always liked Ana Brenda in "Teresa" (where she played Aurora) and I think she's really good here. And Jose Ron (whose character's name in Cuando me enamoro eludes me) has a large role in this one. He's grown his hair out and it suits him! I'd never heard of Jorge Salinas before, but I think he's excellent as Rogelio, though he's a "darker" galán than I'm used to.
I think maybe part of the reason I was able to follow along to this novela without CCs was in part because Ana Brenda speaks really clearly (at least it seemed that way for me) and Jorge Salinas is very expressive, so even if I don't always understand what he says (he's okay but sometimes mushes his words) his face and expressions speak volumes.
Anyway, bring on La que no podía amar! I'm dying to see what you all think of it. And I'm looking forward to seeing it with CCs (and reading everyone else's comments and recaps), so I can find out what I missed! (Even though I was able to keep up with the plot, my understanding of spoken Spanish is not quite "there" yet totally!)

Jorge Aravena --the chef prof in Querida Enemiga--yeahhhhh! Jorge Salinas as the darkly smoldering semi-bad dude and possible love interest? Double the fun! Dunno about the plot, but I trust Elvira's instincts, je-je!
Jardinera, I don't want to give away any spoilers, but I think it's safe to say that Jorge Salinas's character is a semi-bad or anti-hero type. Within the first few episodes I think you'll see what I mean. He definitely has some bad tendencies, the most noticeable being how he smacks that darn whip around (really really inappropriate sometimes), but even so, it doesn't take long to see that he is more galán than not, and based on what I've seen from online comments (and from the rather active fanbase that has developed) I'd say that if his character doesn't end up "happily ever after" that a LOT of us will be very dissatisfied.
My gut tells me that he will have that happy ending. My gut also told me that Teresa would end up (presumably happily ever after) with Professor Hottie, and I wasn't wrong about that. In a way this storyline reminds me a little of "Teresa," but it's very different too. Both stories have atypical heroes/heroines whom, if handled differently, would be pure bad or beyond hope or redemption, but here in these shows we somehow find ourselves rooting for them anyway. The same exec. producer did both novelas; I wonder if that has anything to do with it.
I'd say, give it a chance, it's not just me that is hooked. It's got its ups and downs like I said before. There was a phase in the storyline where I only hung on because some of the other fangirls (who were ahead of me in the story) said that things got better. It's not perfect, but when I compare it to some of the other shows we've endured here, I'd say that our threshold for B.S. is pretty high, so surely we can survive this! LOL. Jorge Salinas really is great. The whole cast is marvelous, but he and the lady that plays Ana Brenda's aunt (she was also Flippy's annoying mom-in-law in Soy tú Duena) really steal the show. Especially Salinas.
I have told my sister (who doesn't know Spanish) about this show and she says she wants to follow along. I keep on laughing about some of the stuff that Rogelio (Salinas) does in the show (mostly how he does grumpy and sour so well), and she says she's really looking forward to seeing it (with a lot of help from Caray Caray, of course!).

Hey Star, it's nice to have a kindred spirit here! It's interesting to hear that you had a similar experience as mine—this show was remarkably easy to follow. I didn't anticipate it. I started watching a few episodes, then discovered that I was still following the plot, so kept on watching more and more. Unlike you, however, I didn't have the self-control to stop, so I'm basically "caught up" and have to wait each night for a new episode to be uploaded.
Part of the reason I did get totally caught up (I had originally planned—just like you, Star—to wait to watch the rest with my Caray buddies) was because I have a YouTube channel with some telenovela clips and stuff and I knew that the fangirls for this show would probably spoil me (leaving comments on my clips), so I decided that I might as well just get caught up and be done with it.
(BTW, Star, if you want to see a "fan video" I did to this show—it covers about the first 40-50 episodes—then email me at esvidsespanol AT gmail.com and I'll give you the url. As some of you already know, from me recapping Eva Luna, I love to work with video and have been threatening to make some fan videos for my fave TNs, and got an idea for this show that couldn't wait!)
And as for the "ups and downs" thing—yes, sometimes you have to hang on and suffer through and keep your beanie tightly affixed so you can keep on going. Having a selectively short memory sometimes helps too! LOL. But all in all, there are more ups than downs and it's a great show to follow watch if you're newer to telenovelas.
Since the show hasn't finished filming in Mexico, I don't know how it's going to end, but just like with "Teresa," it seemed like the ending satisfied most viewers and I have faith that this will be the case here.

Elvira- I emailed you amiga! The only reason I stopped watching was because of a family wedding we had in Nov. With all the wedding planning, guests from out of town, my saturday evenings of watching 5 hrs of LQNPA became impossible! I tried to catch up but gave up! Looking forward to your recaps (I enjoyed the ones you did for EL).

The producer is Jose Alberto Castro, the one that Candy interviewed & flirted with on Familia.
Marco Mendez (Fabián in Triunfo) is in this also.
Ana Bertha Espín (Rosaura) was the annoying Enriqueta in STuD & the likable tía Prudencia in Amor Real.
Her characters are always different & she looks different also.

Vario-She really does look different. I had no idea that was Shrieky while I wrote this post. THen someone mentioned it...Elvira I think...and I was FLOORED. Doesn't look like her at all IMHO.

If you want to do screencaps or just have the best picture and audio possible, I found this forum which has the episodes in various formats. The highest quality in my opinion are the AVI files by "Analiz." I don't see any Analiz episodes after a certain point, alas, but there are quite a few there! :D
As for Shrieky (from Soy tu Duena), she is outstanding as the heroine's manipulative and annoying tia. Sometimes she's simply hilarious. I think the actress is fantastic.

I am so excited for this novela to start! I just found this blog during the last month or so of Fuerza, so I can't wait to watch a novela from the start with these awesome recappers!!!!
I haven't been watching any novelas lately, but I plan to give this novela a try. The cast is interesting..many familiar faces . I can't wait to see Chef Boy-R-You-Hot from Querida Enemiga.

First of all, hi to everyone here! My name is Alexandra I am following you guys for a long time, ever since that abomination CS 2009 was on TV, but for some reason, I never had the guts to write comments. I would have loved to be a "recapper" for La que no Podia Amar, since I've already seen 110 episodes of it and I can write about 5 recaps a day or even more, having all the episodes already recorded. While it definitely had its downs, Jorge Salinas aka Rogelio Montero gave me the strength to keep watching it. For all the Rogelianas out there, you probably will guess when I was about to give up. No, seriously, without him and a few more villains, like the aunt and Efrain, I would have given up on it. I absolutely loathe Jose Ron's character and you'll see for yourself why haha, his character is acting in such dumb ways that it's as if he comes from some incredibly cheesy chick flick. You will laugh, cry and cheer for Rogelio Montero, he is so lovable from day 1, despite his aggressiveness. And curiously enough, I found myself hating the female protagonist also for many, many episodes, because she didn't have the courage to stand up for her mistakes and take responsibility, coming up with excuses instead. I lost count of the facepalms provoked by her.
Anyway, there are some great performances: Jorge Salinas and Ana Berta Espin (Rosaura) are stellar. Jorge Aravena is great too, but they don't give him too much to do. Ana Brenda is definitely growing up as an actress and Jose Ron is just terribly miscast and his character is poorly written. The story is engaging and most of the villains have depth, so you will start hating them very late in the story. Well, at least this happened in my case.

Thank you for your welcome and for letting me know. I know the importance of keeping the posts spoiler-free and of course, I can write as if I don't know the outcome of the story, even though I see it on air on Canal de las Estrellas Mexico. It won't be a problem - otherwise, I wouldn't have volunteered myself for the job. It's definitely a telenovela worth seeing and it's the best one on air, if we don't count El Octavo Mandamiento. If you are a Jorge Salinas fan, you'll be thrilled with his role and if you're not, you'll become one, just like it happened in my case. For some reason, I never took a good look at him, but with Rogelio Montero, everything changed.

It all seems to sort itself out in the end.

I love his character, in part because he combines total jerkwad with galán and can really pull it off. So many times I have found myself laughing in admiration because his character can be such bitter, angry, sour jerk. I kept on laughing and saying to myself, "He's such a d*ck! He's such a d*ck!" as I watched. But yet he gets under your skin. There are a few times when he definitely pushes it too far (you'll all see what I mean within the first few episodes) but just keep watching and you'll see why there are so many fangirls for this character, and why he's the galán we're rooting for.
As for Jose Ron, I'm a fan of his from "Cuando me enamoro" and I liked his character in this show, but what can I say, just like with "Dan the Idiot Man" he also does bone-headed things, and in the end I'm a Rogelio fangirl.

There are a few times when he definitely pushes it too far (you'll all see what I mean within the first few episodes) but just keep watching and you'll see why there are so many fangirls for this character, and why he's the galán we're rooting for.
As for Jose Ron, I'm a fan of his from "Cuando me enamoro" and I liked his character in this show, but what can I say, just like with "Dan the Idiot Man" he also does bone-headed things, and in the end I'm a Rogelio fangirl.
Some of you mentioned Jorge Aravena? I had not heard of him before this either. He has sufficient screentime in this one, so if you're a fan, you'll be pleased about that. He reminds me of Tom Berenger when he was younger. I look forward to seeing this actor in more things.
