La Fuerza del Destino #97 Tue 12/20/11 Farewell Maripaz, Que en Paz Descanse

RECAP BY IBARRAMEDIA

Capitulo 97 Maripaz's Sacrifice/Descanse en Paz

Part1
At Alamos, Sonora-- Ivan,Lucia and Maripaz arrives while Cleto greets them. Maripaz asks for as minute of Ivan's time. Meanwhile Cleto asks Lucia how her mother is doing. Lucia says she's better, better. Thank you. She is calm and will have surgery soon. Cleto asks why what is it? Lucia responds by saying it is a kidney problem.

The scene shifts to Ivan speaking to Maripaz. He says of course but doesn't understand. Maripaz asks Ivan to tell Alex she is making a big sacrifice for her mother, Alex's grandmother and for him. She wants him to admire and earn her love. Ivan says very good and she thanks him. After Lucia finishes answering Cleto's questions, she thanks him for his concern. Ivan returns to Lucia and she asks what is it? He says he doesn't know. Truthfully he does not understand it.

Back at home, Ivan speaks to Tony about his conversation with Maripaz. Tony tells Ivan to explain to Alex that Maripaz is donating her kidney to her mother but not to tell him about her sacrifice, etc, etc. Tell him nothing about that nonsense. He feels the child may feel guilty if something were to go wrong.

They discuss at great length how generous Maripaz is by donating her kidney. Tony says generosity must come from inside her not because she is obligated to help her. They accept the generosity but not to make her a victim.

Meanwhile Lucia attends to the baby Perlita. There is a knock on the door and it is Maripaz who wishes to speak to Lucia. She asks if she could enter and Lucia says yes you can. Maripaz greets Perlita Hello Little niece. I think that Lucia is saying that she is wondering how Maripaz is the only complatible donor. Maripaz is saying that giving up one's kidney is not easy. They discuss Ivan,Camilo and Antolin willing to be donors. She says something about the both of them. Maripaz responds by saying that I'm the mother of Alex and the father of Perlita is Saul. Tjhey argue and bicker. Lucia asks "what she is talking about?" Maripaz says that it's her turn now. She goes on to say that Lucia was always been the only saint, the good one, Lucia who could do no wrong, generous Lucia. Now it's my turn i'm doing something significant for my mother. Saving their mother's life will be her and not you Lucia. As she departs the room,Maripaz says to Perlita goodbye pretty one while Lucia sort of rolls her eyes while dissecting all of this.

At the office, Ivan meets with Antolin and Camilo. He tells them that Maripaz is a match. Camilo asks if she accepts and agrees. Ivan says yes. Antolin exclaims his surprise at the turn of events. The talk turns to how Carolina is doing. Antolin says they are happy. Everything is all good. He asks that both Ivan and Camilo be the Godfathers to his son. Camilo asks if it's a boy and Antolin says yes Ivan congratulates Antolin. Antolin says something to Camilo, then turns towards Ivan who looks on awkwardly and uncomfortably.

At the Sacred Heart Hospital, we see Carlota sitting down and waiting while Lucresia lies in the bed. Lucia enters the room and says hello to her grandmother. She returns the greeting. Lucia kisses her mother on the forehead, and she wakes and greets her daughter with "my love". Lucia asks her what she needs. Lucresia says she doesn't need anything. The doctors are here ad she's sick. She asks where Maripaz is. Lucia says she's still at hime. Relax. Lucia says she will return. Carltoa touches Lucresia's arm as she bids goodbye. Lucresia weeps silently.

While walking out of Lucresia's room Lucia explains to Carlota how this sudden transformation into a heroine by Maripaz is because of her. She feels that Maripaz is competing with her. Later on Ivan goes into Alex's room where he is using his laptop. Evidently they are studying human anatomy and the functions of the various organs of the body like lungs, heart, intestines, kidneys. They talk about the kidney being used to filter blood and other waste products. He tells Alex that his grandmother is very sick with bad kidneys and that she needs a donor. Alex asks if she is dying.

Back at the ranch Carlota sees Maripaz sitting down with thoughts on her mind. She says it's good to rest. They revert to bickering and Maripaz states how Lucia is good and that they turned Alex against her, told him she's a witch. That she is a bad person. They talk about Lucia being good and Maripaz's mistakes and errors. Maripaz says she is not a monster and she would like to do good by her mother. Carlota regrets that Maripaz will donate a kidney to Lucresia to compete with Lucia. Back in Alex's room, Ivan continues to explain that his mother, Maripaz is donating her kidney to help save the life of his grandmother. Alex thinks she must be good to do that kind of thing.

In David's apartment, David with Berenice tells Ester that the divorce will soon be finalized with the division of assets, you're a rich lady. Berenice adds that they are all free. Ester says that she will live with her sister and Berenice adds that Ester is young and pretty and she might find a good man. Ester mentions something about making a will and adding David and Judith in it. David asks if she is alright and she says yes. He asks what about Saul. Ester quietly shakes her head to indicate no. They say something about the lands.

Night falls and amidst the backdrop of a fountain and 2 frog statues we see a lonely and forlorn Juan Jaime Mondragon. He walks quietly around the darkly lit mansion. He then quietly picks up the phone to call Lucresia. Carlota picks up the phone and they both share pleasantries. Juan Jaime asks to speak to Lucresia but Carlota says she is sorry Lucresia is not available because she is in the hopsital. Juan Jaime asks why? Carlota explains the dialysis failed and that she is getting ready for a transplant. Carlota adds that Maripaz is donating her kidney. Juan Jaime wants to wait in the hospital. Carltoa says that at this time only immediate family can wait. Juan Jaime asks if tomorrow is the surgery. Carlota confirms this.

At sacred Heart Hospital, Ivan goes to see Lucia whom is keeping vigil at Lucresia's bedside. He asks how she is. Lucia says she's a nervous. Ivan asks Lucia to get something to eat in the cafeteria. Lucia says she is not hungry. Lucia asks if he spoke to Alex. Ivan says yes. He told Alex that Maripaz will be the donor. They say something about it being good for both Alex and Maripaz. They then talk of getting married. Getting their own place....

Part2
At Antolin and Carolina's bedroom, they talk about the ranch and the job... It's not easy running the ranch. Carolina says she is a strong woman and then she flexes her biceps. They talk about Lucia's mother being sick and Antolin says yes. And tomorrow is the surgery. They express shock that Maripaz is donating her kidney. They hope all is well. They then proceed to play around in bed.

It is now the morning of the operation and we see Juan Jaime at the foot of Lucresia’s bed. He tells her not to worry. Lucresia says that she has been bad and that she is being punished and that she could die.
Juan Jaime says that’s nonsense. You’re a great lady. Lucresia says she doesn’t know about that. Juan Jaime wants to get together with Lucresia. Lucresia reaches out her hand and says that they are good friends forever. A nurse enters the room to say that it is time. The nurse tells Juan Jaime to wait in the waiting room. Juan Jaime kisses her on the forehead.

In Maripaz’s room, she says my God, I’m here really nervous. There is a knock on the door and Maripaz says yes. It is Lucia and she says hi to her sister. She thanks her for what she will do for their mother. She hopes that one day they both can have a relationship as sisters and not as enemies. Maripaz seems to look a little touched by this after being slightly defensive earlier. Ivan knocks on Maripaz’s door and both he and Alex enter with a single yellow rose. Alex tells her that she is so brave. She tells him she’s making a sacrifice. Before she could say more, Ivan cuts her off and speaks gently to her with reassurances. Before Alex leaves, she requests a kiss from her son and he obliges. He wishes his mother good luck.

Lucresia is wheeled into surgery. They say their goodbyes then Carlota and Tony look at each other lovingly from a distance. Then she walks over towards Tony and they hold hands. He says cheer up, have courage. Carlota says it’s her daughter. He says it’s normal to feel this way. Both of them will recover. Maripaz is now being wheeled in. Carlota looks and touches her lovingly. Despite what she might have done in the past, she is still her granddaughter. She loves her and she will be the key to her daughter living. Maripaz has a worried look on her face. Carlota thanks her. Maripaz says you’re welcome. Carlota says let’s go. Maripaz says let’s go.

Mother and daughter are wheeled in end over end and they clasp hands to get ready for surgery. Lucresia thanks Maripaz.

At the office, Camilo says they are at the hospital now. David says yes. They talk business a bit and David says Lucia and everyone are at the hospital. Camilo asks if they have any idea where Saul is. Conversation becomes a little heated at this point.

During the surgery the doctors are very concerned because something wrong is happening. A lot of blood is being lost. There’s hemorrhage. They cannot control the bleeding.

Ivan walks in the hospital. He asks how things are at home. Lucia says it’s better, better. Ivan says there won’t be troubles anymore. Forever. They kiss. Camilo walks in on them. Lucia looks at him then rushes to her grandmother. Juan Jaime walks towards them. At this time the doctor comes out and Carlota asks how the operation went. The doctor says they finished transplanting Maripaz’s kidney to Lucresia but they could not control the hemorrhage. He says he is so sorry but Maripaz had died in the process. Lucia starts to weep and Ivan sheds a tear. Despite all they had been through Maripaz was his first love, his former wife and the mother of his son Alex. Carlota now starts to cry. Lucia and Carlota embrace.

The doctor says Lucresia is well. She is in intensive care. Tony offers his condolences. Juan Jaime offers to take Lucia and Carlota to the house. They don’t want to go but Ivan convinces them that Mr. Mondragon is right. They should get some rest. Lucia thanks him. Juan Jaime says you’re welcome. Camilo says he is sorry. Lucia hugs Camilo. Tony tells Carlota to go home. There is no need for them to be here.

Carlota and Lucia go to see Maripaz’s body. They weep again. Carlota tells her to rest in peace. Lucia thanks her sister then kisses her on the forehead.

Back at home Cleto asks Ivan “what’s up?” Ivan says Maripaz died during the transplantation surgery. I think Cleto says My God in heaven. Ivan asks where they want to bury Maripaz. Lucia says right next to her father. Ivan says I’m here. Then after a brief discussion, Ivan has to go home. Carlota and Tony talk about how hard it is to lose a child. Tony says he lost his son and wife. Carlota is saying something about a high price to pay. Tony says that Maripaz demonstrated that there is goodness in her. Tony tells her to be strong for her daughter. He tells her not to have a great feeling of guilt. Be strong for your grand daughter and great grand kids, for Lucresia. They embrace.

Ivan has returned home and Benito asks how things went. Ivan says Lucresia’s operation was successful but they lost Maripaz in the process. She passed away. Benito does not know what to say. Ivan asks where Alex is. Benito says in his room. Ivan instructs Benito to pack some things since they will be going to the Curiel household. Ivan enters Alex’s room and says hello. Alex says hello. He talks about his grandmother’s and his mother’s operation. He says the operation is over. His grandmother is okay. But you’re mother….. She gave up her life so that his grandmother may live. He says she said she loved Alex very much. Ivan tells Alex about his mother named Alicia and how he loved her very much. He says that Alex’s mother loved him too even though she did not treat Alex well in the beginning. He tells Alex that Maripaz just did not know how to become a mother, but tried to overcome her fear so that she could be a better mother to him. She loved him but did not know how to show it. Alex says that to give up her life for his grandmother, she must be a good person. He then looks down into the picture frame with Maripaz’s picture in it. He looks sad. Ivan tells him that the best way to let her be at peace is to forgive her then let her go. He tells him to close his eyes. Alex says he forgives his mother, he will never forget her and farewell. He then hugs the picture and cries. Ivan also weeps by his side.

At the Sacred Heart Hospital, the doctor tells Juan Jaime that Lucresia is in room 305. He asks if she is awake. And he asks if she asked about her daughter. The doctor tells him to wait with the family and they will break the news to Lucresia.

At Lucia’s home, Lucia asks how Alex is doing. Ivan says well enough. She says good. Ivan asks about Lucia’s grandmother. She says she is waiting. Lucia gets a phone call. It is Juan Jaime and he says that Lucresia is now in intensive care and that the doctor needs the family to be there when he informs Lucresia that her daughter passed away. Lucia thanks him and says they will go there. Lucia relays this message to Ivan.

It is now night time when Lucresia regains her consciousness. The first thing she sees are pink roses with a yellow one in the middle. Juan Jaime says welcome back to life. Lucresia asks how Maripaz is doing. Juan Jaime says it was a success. She says she’s blessed and again asks about Maripaz. How is she? On cue, everyone files into the room. Lucia says how nice that you are well. Lucresia responds with “yes my love, thanks to Maripaz.” She again asks how Maripaz is. Carlota looks towards the doctor and he begins to explain. There was a problem in the operation. I’m so sorry. Lucresia says “I’m so sorry???” What are you talking about? She then realizes that her daughter died. She screams Maripaz is dead!!! Maripaz is dead! Why? She asks “why?” She become very inconsolable. Juan Jaime looks on sadly. Lucresia asks why her daughter died before she did?

A few days later, it is raining in the cemetery as Maripaz is laid to rest. The priest says a prayer for our sister Maripaz for the eternal repose of her soul. Carlota throws the first yellow rose then followed by Alex, Lucia and Ivan. Then the rest soon follow. Everyone is there. Even the servants. The only people absent are Lucresia who is still recovering in the hospital, Carmen, Lichita and of course the fugitives Saul and El Gordo.

Weeks later, Lucresia walks with Lucia and she wants to rest. Lucia says the doctor ordered her to exercise. Lucresia says she is tired. Lucia says a little more. Lucresia says that a little more and she will be able to visit her sister in the cemetery. Carlota remarks how nice it is that Lucresia is walking a lot more now...Lucresia asks how her granddaughter is. Lucresia says something about herself being a sinner. Lucia gives her daughter over to Lucresia to hold while she sits down.

In Hermosillo, Sonora we see Saul and El Gordo at a restaurant. They talk about being very desperate for money but to be very careful because they are worried about Antolin. They begin to put Alex’s kidnapping plan in motion.

End of episode 97.

Avances: Gordo, dressed like a clown (how appropriate), breaks into Caro’s house, holds her at gunpoint and ties her up, and takes Alex!

Maybe Ivan needs to take his own advice about forgiving your parent and letting them go.

I don't know Anon207. I really don't think Ivan needs to get to any other place in his feelings about JJ. He doesn't want to kill the guy any more. He never even gives him a second thought these days. Not like the old days when he was obsessed with getting even with the guy. But Alex is a little boy, and Ivan wants to make sure Alex doesn't feel guilty and finds a healthy way to deal with his grief. I fully support the advice he gave Alex, but don't feel like he has to apply it to himself about JJ. If he wants to, sure.

Thanks for posting this; I have been itching to comment since the episode aired last night.

This is not the ending I envisioned for Maripaz, but it will do. Her hubris kills her because she is performing this act for non-material personal gain rather than as an act of love for her mother. She is making a show of a saintliness and sense of charity we all know she does not possess. There is a Qu'aaranic verse that states this perfectly:

"If ye disclose (acts of) charity, even so it is well, but if ye conceal them, and make them reach those (really) in need, that is best for you: It will remove from you some of your (stains of) evil. And Allah is well acquainted with what ye do." 2.271

An article on the subject said this:

Thus the spirit of kindness and well wishing is the essence of charity. The giver is not to expect any reward from the beneficiary as there awaits for him an abundant reward from God - material, moral and spiritual - what God deems it best to confer on His servant.

No reward for you, Maripaz.

This was a sad episode.

Maybe Maripaz wasn't a the best person, she wasn't a good person either but there were various people affected by her death, including poor little Alex.

I really enjoyed the acting of this episode too. I thought it was pretty strong overall. There's something about Laisha Wilkins where she can somehow imprint her villains with a certain something that I like or feel I can connect with and I felt it again in her last scenes with Alex and Lucrezia.

Bye, bye Maripaz. I'm sure the bar owners and horny guys in Álamos will miss you the most.

Jarocha

"I'm sure the bar owners and horny guys in Álamos will miss you the most."

LOL Jarocha! I agree about Laisha. She always adds a touch of vulnerability to her villains that comes through, especially through her big eyes (which Dr. Carlos loved so much in Gancho).

Wow, I cried through the whole episode. Laisha Wilkins is fabulous and I found her totally believable as Maripaz. The actress who plays Lucrezia was similarly effective as she grieved for MP. And Alex......amazing!

It looks like Tony and Carlota kiss in tonight's episode! About time, I would say!

I have only been through 4 or 5 TNs. Corazon Salvaje, Soy tu Duena, Triunfo Del Amor, this one, and another one I think. I enjoyed FdelD the most of all of them, I think in part because it didn't drag on FOREVER like in STD and TDA. Ivana in STD was a recurring nightmare far too long, and TDA made me want to chew my leg off to escape it. TDA would take about 2 weeks to cover the same kind of stuff that would happen in one night of FdelD.

Thank you so much to all you precious recappers. It's a lot of work and I appreciate how much you all selflessly volunteer.

Last thought: I can't imagine a real child going through what Alex has gone through and remaining upbeat, sweet, respectful and chipper! It's almost funny for me to see what new horrors will be inflicted on the poor kid! It's oooonly TV!

It's really the only way she could've gotten any kind of redemption. We'd never forget her running over that woman, and she'd never be so sorry as to confess. Dying was the only way out. It didn't get too sad until they showed Lucrezia. She's a very good actress in her grief. And you have to give these characters credit for responding as they did. MP was horrible to all of them and not a one even cracked a smile or said "Whatever", not even Benito. Terrifically appropriate reactions.

But what is with Gordo in a clown costume? He's the only fat guy in town! Like Antolin won't know who it is? He and Saul need to suffer for their stupidity. Hopefully the mother's genes are dominant in Saul's daughters, because otherwise Lord help them.

Poor little Lichita definitely didn't get a good prize in the gene pool with Saul and Carmen for parents. Let's not even talk about that unfortunate nickname.

As someone pointed out yesterday nurture is trumping nature most of the time in this story or all of JJ's children would be like himself and Lucia would be like Lucrezia.

Between Lucia and Ivan Perla will be fine, just as Alex is thanks to Gerry.

Why have we not seen Lucrezia interacting with Alex yet?

And that boy will have a lifelong phobia about clowns after tonight's episode.

Tks mucho Vivi for stepping in.

RIP MP.
I think Iván's talk with Alex was for the boys benefit. To forgive & accept his mother is for his peace of mind in later years. It's better to think of Mamá in a positive view than as a bitch, puta.

At least the kidnapping nightmare can't go on for long. And Alex will get himself a puppy.

Variopinta

word veri
unhapydr, that was last nights episode

Thank you so much for the header Vivi. I have been making chocolate truffles all afternoon and checked to see if the recap was up. I agree with everyone about Maripaz. I liked all the acting by all the actors, especailly Alex and Lucrazy. Lucrazy is really wonderful with Perlita, I liked how she was mimicing her face, with the I want milk.

Ya know Gordo looks like the clown from Stephan King's It. Too scary.
I think Anto will know who it is. Hope Caro doesn't get injured.

Thanks Vivi for stepping in until the recap is posted.
At least if Alex gets kidnapped, it won't be for very long since the last episode is Monday.
I can't believe I cried about Maripaz's death when I was wishing for it the entire TN. I guess I was sad for everyone else.
Little Perlita couldn't be more cute. I just want to kiss her face.

Laisha Wilkins had me at MP's tears when Alex kissed her in her hospital bed. Which was also the moment I was finally convinced she was a goner...but like UA I wasn't expecting it beforehand either. Or at least not the way it went down: completely offscreen, without even a parting closeup of Maripaz's face? It's not like it would have taken away from the fine acting everybody else was doing in this episode; for some reason it reminded me of Triunfo del Amor of all things.

Heaven forbid Bill! No comparisons to TdA please! :) I was reminded of the scene when MariaD and Victoria were wheeled into surgery, and thought to myself how much BETER executed it was here. I don't remember having any tears in my eyes during the TdA scene. I probably rolled my eyes actually. LOL!

" I don't remember having any tears in my eyes during the TdA scene. I probably rolled my eyes actually. LOL!"

LOL, but it was her long lost HIJA! She cried 145 buckets of glycerine for her!

Jarocha

I can't believe I actually cried for MP. She went into this for mostly wrong reasons, but I think that may have changed after her [second] talk with Lucia, Alex's gesture and Lucrezia's words. I think if her reaction didn't appear so amazingly genuine (kudos to Laisha), I would not have shed a tear at all. In my opinion, she sought happiness in a fast life the entire TN at the cost of everyone who loved her... only before being wheeled off to surgery did she even start to recognize where true happiness comes from. I think had she survived she could have learned to be a semi-decent person or at least less raunchy.

It took so long to finally catch up to yesterday now that the holiday season is in full swing. I could not comment before because I was always days or sometimes weeks late. I'll say this though, I may have opinions that 99% of our readers and viewers won't agree with but they are my opinions and I will politely share them you you all.

Last night's episode was trully a sad one (I agree with everyone that it was great acting) and we learn lessons in sacrifice and love. I will give credit to Maripaz for donating her kidney to Lucrezia so that she may continue to live despite the risk of having complications which actually happened to her. Sure, she had "other motives" for being a donor but I really believe that she loves her mother and her son Alex. Now How many of us would really and trully do what she did? At least she did it at the cost of her life. She could have backed out but she did not.

I think too much was expected of Maripaz once she became "good". Like everything, it would take some time. It would not be too believable if Maripaz all of a sudden became Santa Maripaz. It is a process, particularly when modifying a behavior. It will take a lot of work and time. Unfortunately for Maripaz she ran out of time and made the ultimate sacrifice. I respect a person who sacrifices their life to save another one regardless of motive. From Maripaz's point of view, she was desperate and really trying to win and earn Alex's love and she was grasping at straws but she really wanted to change.

Do all drug addicts change overnight? (Not saying she was a drug addict) No. Many make mistakes along the way. I think Maripaz did not know how but she was making an effort.

I'm not excusing her past behavior and I was dissapointed in a few things she did but from what I've read, she gets far more hatred than Saul and El Gordo and yes even Juan Jaime Mondragon. Maripaz had done many mean spirited things in the past and some of her worst were the Drunk driving manslaughter and the theft of Carlota's jewels. But that pales in comparison to what Saul and Gordo have done. Everything those 2 have done are with intent and premeditation. They were done with malice in mind. Gerardo's murder, Lucrezia's kidnap attempt, Lucia's rape, and now Alex's kidnapping. The US criminal justice system puts a lot of empahisi on the "intent" in determining the severity of a crime. The difference between murder one and manslaughter.

When all this just began, I wondered if Juan Jaime was just a despicable guy to be around with or if if he commited crimes. It has been proven that he has committed what are classified as crimes in the Mexican criminal justice system. In the US, embezzlement is a statutory offense so the definition of the crime varies from statute to statute.

I posted at the end of the previous comments this morning, because I couldn't wait; but it was a dynamite ep.

Hey Ibarramedia! Long time no see. Glad you're caught up. Great comments. I'm not sure what it is 99% of us would disagree with. Sounds pretty spot on.

I think the reason why MP got so much hate was because she was just around a lot more than the other villains and for much longer. I don't think you'll find anyone who doesn't wish Saul dead, but there were plenty of folks who would have liked to see MP go down redemption road instead of the grave. In these last episodes she did both. Who knows how far she would have gotten or what effect establishing a relationship with Alex would have had on her. But she wasted all those years and all that time with loved ones, and unfortunately her time ran out before she could actually enjoy the people who loved her.

Agreed Anon. Maripaz was a spoiled brat in the beginning and her antics could be seen as one of rebeliousness to selfishness. She also became insecure of Lucia being projected as someone who could do no wrong while she was blamed for many things. Most of which were self inflicted. In my opinion, Maripaz was never an evil person. She would not willfully harm someone or commit crimes because that is not really her nature. She is really a hedonistic person rather than a criminal. She was also acting out while searching for love in all the wrong places. If we could change history and be a little revisionist, I think Maripaz would have turned out much better if she and Ivan were intially married like what Gerardo wanted and even if Ivan never met Tony and never became a "McGuire", he could have made Rancho socorro more prosperous The Curiel women would never have lost the house in Alamos. Things would have been different in our story.

I alos realize that for this story to have a very dramatic and emotional impact, it had to add Maripaz's tragedy to the story. Makes for very good story telling. In reality, Transplants are rarely fatal. Read this question and answer and the links provided.

What are the health risks associated with being a donor?

Your surgeon and nurse coordinator will discuss all health risks with you. The risks of donation are similar to those involved with any major surgery, such as bleeding and infection. Death resulting from kidney donation is extremely rare. Current research indicates that kidney donation does not change life expectancy or increase a person’s risks of developing kidney disease or other health problems.

Also for dramatic license, they said that Carlota and Tony are not eligible because they are too old. Tony though has some legitimate health issues.

Who can be an organ donor?

There are no age limits on who can be an organ donor. Newborns as well as senior citizens have been organ donors. If you are younger than 18, you must have a parent's or guardian's consent. If you are 18 years or older, you can show you want to be an organ and tissue donor by signing a donor card.

Vivi, thanks for stepping in again. You've done yeo(wo)man's service here keeping the ball rolling. But I do want to take a moment to thank our Gloria for her great contributions along the way. And to express my sympathy and empathy for all the sorrow and pain she has endured recently. I love this little Caray Caray community for all the great personalities. I consider you all friends. Not many blogs can claim this level of cameraderie.

It was a three hanky episodio, de verdad. I am fascinated by Laisha Wilkens and am sorry her role is finished (but we are close to the end). David Z. plays a mighty righteous character even though I've not warmed up to him, or Sandra E. Now, I want some nice warm golden-years lovin for Tony & Carly. And I really would like to see Benito rejoined with his family. He deserves it after all his devotion and care. Remember, it was because of his generosity that Ivan even got a foothold in LA. He desreves more than to be a Steppin Fetchit all his life.

This novela was very big on the role of servants. because of rebellious vixens like Carmen, it made me really think about the life of a person who waits on someone else. Their lives are not their own. When I was young, I did things like clean house, babysit, and run errands for people. But I've since forgotten the humiliation, and drudgery. Being in a tenuous employment situation lately makes me think of the whole spectrum. I often wonder why an hour of my time is worth so much less than an hour of some idiot corporate executive's time, especially when they are wrong and stupid so much of the time.

I have liked this novela even though (or maybe because) it has made me uncomfortable at times. It has never been boring (TdA, anyone?).

Hello there Vivi! I was actually hoping to see Maripaz make it to the end happily ever after. I actually had high hopes for her in the beginning. I was sad to see her go and may have shed a tear for her. (Something I will never admit to the guys lol)Judith was really beginning to interest me as is Berenice. Judith has some exotic appeal. I was beginning to come around to the bratty Carmen but was turned off by her "return" to her old ways. I agree with all that even Lichita seems more mature than her. Juan Jaime is still someone I can't stand. Saul, I don't mind setting on fire.

Come to think about it, I don't recall seeing Carmen and Lichita at the funeral. I think they were the only ones who did not attend not counting the 2 fugitives Saul and El Gordo. I was surprised they even knew of Maripaz's death but figured the news was on the TV,Radio,Newspapers and internet. She after all belonged to a wealthy and prominent family.

Vivi, If Gloria can't do the recap, I'm willing to attempt this one but it may take a bit of time and be up for tomorrow. A little late but better than nothing if you all want it. I will email it to you to post. It won't be perfect though and anyone can feel free to add, correct,etc.....

Ibarramedia- That would be fabulous. You know how to access my e-mail address. Just click on my photo or name to get to my profile. I will happily post it here for people to read. Such a great episode deserves some detail for people in the future to come back to when this tn shows elsewhere or at another time.

Hedonism isn't evil unless something about it infringes on others' lives. Like the hit-and-run vehicular homicide when Maripaz was blotto. She ran like a coward from that.

Her treatment of Alex was evil. She used him to force Ivan to marry her, then abused him, insulted him, and threatened the life of his beloved dog.

Her treatment of Lucia was evil. Lying about her, taking away her fiance and later committing adultery with her husband (and let's not forget the husband of her old friend) was deliberate. If all she wanted was to boink somebody it didn't have to be Ivan, Bob, or Camilo.

Let's not forget the insults she hurled at Carolina and her later threat to challenge her father's will.

Just about everything else can be chalked up to pure selfishness.

JJ's embezzlement would get him jail time in Mexico. And a major scandal.

Anyone wondering whether Antolin might try to anonymously return 5 million pesos to the Curiels?

It only remains to be seen now whether Carmen will pay for her sins (We know Saul and El Gordo will).

"It was a three hanky episodio, de verdad.

It has never been boring (TdA, anyone?)."

LXV - Agnes Right?

Laisha is very good. Perhaps I was smitten by her instead of her alter ego Maripaz.

When I was very young, we had live in servants working for us, doing all that you mentioned and much much more. Complete with uniforms and all like in the shows. Looking back, I admit to taking all they di for granted and yes, even sometimes being mean to them. Of course, I have a much different outlook and greater appreciation now that I'm older.

I did not think that Benito's family was that much important to the show or at least what they wanted to do with it. Including them in might take another 45 or so episodes added with storylines for them. They even did a brief story arc involving Ezequiel, the younger male servant/worker in the ranch being somewhat interested in Carmen.

Ezekiel was a wasted opportunity for Carmen. Here was a good, honest, hard working man, who was interested in her, and she was attracted to him too. And since her brother left Socorro he is now the capataz there. If she had kept on that path, instead of being taken in by Saul and wanting the fast track to $, then she would have probably already been married to a good, successful man.

Vivi, I see it. This show will be another "classic" It really is a good show with great story. I love it and have not missed a single episode though I've had to view some episodes on a delayed basis due to an extremely hectic and busy work schedule. Wanted to see CME and Familia but just have no time for them. I might watch online bit by bit. Much better than TDA but then again many others were better. IMHO FELS was better too. I really liked that one. Amor Real and ALborada are tops though along with Pasion. And I watched Amor Real and Alborada years after the original airings.

Thanks for this recap/review!

Wow, I thought I was going to be the only one who got all verklempt when Maripaz died. Good to see that I wasn't! It was a fantastic episode. Hard to believe there are only a few days left.

Yeah, the actress playing Maripaz was amazing in this episode. After she cried happy tears after Alex left, she just started to shiver from terror. She was so afraid of the operation. That was so believable - really incredible acting. And heartbreaking because I felt sure that she was going to her death, and she seemed to feel it too.

Thanks for all the efforts to get the recap going! Yes, that definitely was an episode worth having a written record.

There was no reason for Carmen or Lichita to be at Maripaz's funeral. She was nobody to them.

Antolin, Carolina, Celia & Camilo, I could see them being there to support Ivan & Lucia.

The Mondragons, because Maripaz was briefly a member of their family.

Obviously the McGuires, because Maripaz was a member of their family & the mother of Alex.

The Curiel crew, for obvious reasons.

Carmen & Lichita? No. They were no relation to Maripaz and there was no reason for them to be there.

Wow, this was such an emotional capitulo. I cried during the scene where Ivan is breaking the news to Alex that MP passed away. It's always to hard to lose someone you have mixed feelings towards. Glad than our hero (and heroine) are so loving and ready to help Alex sort things out.

Was happy to see Lucrazia finally appreciating and supporting Lucia, and enjoyed watching Carly and Lucia's shock as Lucrazia doted on Perlita. It's about time!

Watching Tony and Carly's kissing scene (today, Capitulo 98), brought me to a mind-numbing realization. While working on my history degree, I'll also be working towards board certification for genealogy. It's clear that if I tried to prepare a tree for the denizens of Alamos, and used the relationship calculator in my research program, the program would probably crash while calculating the web of relationships. Lucrazia is Ivan's mother's step-sister, she was his mother-in-law and will likely bcome his mother-in-law again, but what if Tony and Carly marry? Lucrazia would be Ivan's step-sister. And if Lucrazia perhaps married JJ? Ivan's step-mother. ¡Ay Dios mio!

I can now add the citizens of Alamos to an elite club of subjects who could potentially crash genealogy software, an elite club that includes all of Europe's royalty, and all of the fundamentalist and polygamist Mormon groups in the USA. Congrats, Alamos? Not sure that's an honor, but at least it's entertaining to us! :P

Vivi: Thank you again for the terrific mini-cap.

As everyone has said, the plot was well executed, the actaing amazing.

Bill, you echoed my sentiments exactly: "Laisha Wilkins had me at MP's tears when Alex kissed her in her hospital bed". ITA with everyone who cried - I did too. She was utterly terrified and despite the fact her reasons weren't altruistic, she went through with it. I'm glad she had that tender moment with Alex who has already endured way too much.

I was unmoved by Maripaz's death.

Maybe if the pacing had been better. Maybe if she'd shown some desire to do a good thing for the sake of it being good and not for the sake of everyone thinking she was a good person. Maybe if she'd turned herself in to the cops for running that woman over...or made arrangements to do it...or expressed a desire to do it as soon as she was recovered...or anything.

The whole situation with Lucrezia and the kidney donation feels like the result of too many grueling hours in the writers room trying to solve The Maripaz Problem. I imagine someone finally shouted out "It's 3 in the morning! None of us can think of a way to redeem this skank. Can't we just kill her off and go home already?"

As I wrote in a previous discussion, I would have dealt with Maripaz by having her get into a car accident and ending up disfigured and paralyzed. Lucrezia would have to take care of her and after she's gone MP would end up in a medical facility at Ivan's expense because Lucia doesn't deserve the burden of her care.

She was irredeemable.

Crap....maripaz never pays for her crimes...she killed an old lady for Gods Sakes. Lucrecia Carlota and Lucia should go to jail as well for covering up the crime. I guess everyones a hero..pffft. Bad very bad.
