El Mundo de Telemundo, week of Jan. 30: Discuss Amongst Yourselves
This past week we said goodbye to the La casa de al lado and welcomed a new novela, Relaciones peligrosas. It looks like a few folks here will be following this one. Not me though. At this point, nothing in the Telemundo line-up has seduced me. That could change any time – I’m easy :)
Hombre and Novelera, thanks for keeping the ball rolling with your excellent, yet succinct recaps of the evening novelas. Maybe I’ll see you over at El Talismán.
Your turn.

- After Mauricio found out he had been accepted to Columbia University at the end of Thursday's episode, this episode opens with el principal Teresa Vargas, Mauricio's mother Carmen, and the senior teacher whose name I can't remember all doing a full court press on Miranda to tutor him so he can get a full scholarship. Mainly because he's brilliant and an inspiration to other students, yadda yadda yadda. Mauricio initially isn't optimistic about his chances of getting a full scholarship or even leaving Miami; neither is Miranda, but she finally and reluctantly agrees to tutor him because it's a great opportunity for him.
Naturally he's convinced that she agreed to do it just to get him away from her, and when he gets her alone later she basically admits that--what they had could never be again, and they both have to move on. Mau goes full-tilt with the "Won't you wait for me to become of age?" thing, which is apparently combined with the usual galan-based form of Jedi mind control because Miranda doesn't run screaming when he says that. Rather, she's looking all stricken and forlorn about the whole thing.
The inevitable catch is that Oliver Torres, the surviving would-be rapist with the tattoo and the square head, happens to see Mauricio and Miranda talking in the open and assumes they're talking about him. So he tails them and catches their private chat about "us," though his cellphone gives him away; at this point Miranda tells Mauricio that she's convinced he was one of her two rapists. Oliver manages to evade Mauricio until the following day, but when he literally gets dragged to a face-to-face meeting with a furious Miranda and a threat to call the police on him he drops the bomb: if she calls the police on him, he'll tell them how "Miranda likes them young" and ruin her!
- Side story of the day: apparently the apartment (building?) Patty lives in was seized or foreclosed on due to some sort of con her landlord was running. So Miranda, being the caring amiga she is, offers to let Patty stay with her.
- The tale of Rodrigo's cellphone rolls on: while Leonardo does in fact unlock it for Sebastian, he also manages to copy everything on it to his laptop and delete all the pictures and videos recorded before 2am from the phone itself in order to protect Gonzalo. So Sebastian, with Nora and Alejandro later in tow, just gets to see some goofy pictures of Rodrigo and friends at the party. Leonardo, meanwhile, takes Gonzalo back to his house and shows him everything that Rodrigo had recorded--which includes something that freaks Gonzo out to the point of making him swear Leonardo to secrecy about it on pain of death before deleting it from the laptop. Which means someone will stumble across a backup or some such in about three weeks...
Through the various trips to people's homes because of el maldita celular and a montage at the end of the episode, we're also introduced to some new supporting characters:
1. Gonzalo's working-class family. Stuffed into a small apartment, this includes his younger and bilingual sister Emily; his sweet and presumably long-suffering mother Benita, who apparently speaks very little English but understands it well; and his bulletheaded stepfather Bob, a gringo who seems to be perpetually irritated about something. Bob and Gonzo aren't on the best of terms with each other, since Gonzo openly tells Benita that he doesn't like said maldito gringo (Bob, to his credit, knows just enough Spanish to figure out what he said) before disappearing to smoke a joint with Oliver. The following morning, however, we see Emily bounce into Gonzo's bedroom and take a piece of "candy" from his box of pills. This can't end well...
2. Leonardo's wealthy family. Apart from an unidentified maid at his house, we get introduced to his mother Clementina and his macho father Andres. We don't get to see much about them until everybody sits down to dinner, where Andres death-glares Leonardo through a wall for talking on his cellphone at the table and then stalks off.
3. Yesenia's family. Okay, family in the singular sense--we see her putting together a small stash of cash and kissing a picture of a man who could be her father, and then later going to some sort of jail to see someone.
- After his daily flirty chat with Patty at school, Juan Pablo sets up a dinner date with Miranda (who ends up standing him up thanks to Patty's apartment issues). This gives his unseen stalker time to drop off another threatening note on his SUV ("I'm after you") and taunt him via cellphone about being stood up at a restaurant. On top of that JP freaks out when he sees an unidentified couple show up at the same restaurant; he ends up going back to his apartment and staring at pictures of himself looking happy with an unidentied woman. (Taking bets: sister, wife, novia...?)
Excellent job, Bill! The other male teacher, who might be like a vice principal is Armando. He also happens to be the father of Santiago, the free spirited art teacher, who is the last of the 4 we saw originally. Armando thinks his son is a loser, and will screw up as a teacher. We've also briefly met Ana Conde (Maritza Bustamante), but so far all we know is that she's a teacher, and seems a bit mean or strict.
In an earlier recap I wrote that Sebastians' parents, Orlando and Miraela, were divorced, but that seems wrong. She just sort of dominates her husband.
Although Gonzalo did provide the drugs, I don't think he's nearly as bad as Oliver (although he did push Alejandro's face in the toilet). He's feeling very guilty, and his best friend Leo senses this, and goes along with keeping the secret quiet. Gonzalo is more stupid than evil, his drug use just makes him careless, such as leaving out the pills which little Emily thinks are candy.
Leo's Dad is a real pig. But he's also very rich. Is his wife Leo's mother, or stepmother? She looks pretty young.
Patty was funny when she was stumbling in talking to JP. She doesn't realize that JP has the hots for Miranda, and is just toying with her. This might end up making her jealous of Miranda (even though Miranda is not really interested in JP beyond friendship), which could cause Patty to betray Miranda.
When Yesenia put that money in the box, I got the feeling she might be taking money for sex, although there's really no evidence of that. I can't imagine who the guy in the picture is. Maybe he's also at the jail where she's going. We should find out soon.
They're doing a good job of introducing just a few characters each day, so we can keep them straight. The Telemundo website shows quite a few more we haven't met yet.
This may be my last comment for a while on this show, since I'm thinking of watching El Talisman, which I think is on at the same time. Too bad, because things are really heating up!
Yes, Victor does save Sara from the Catalina burglar. Even though Cat offers more money than Victor will make in a year, plus sex (!), he controls himself, and turns her in to the cops. Later, Lety and the others hear about his heroics (I was wrong in my prediction that Sara would fall for Victor's manliness).
Ty is feeling better, and gets so excited about all his new projects, that he just about has another heart attack! The Doc tells him his career is over, if he wants to live. At the end of the episode, Cris decides that HE will run for Senator, to carry on the nobles causes of his Dad!
Cris also reconciles with Marisa, except that Marisa says their relationship just has too many problems, and has to stop. After much pleading, Cris agrees, adding "for now."
Tito just about accepts his gayness, closes his eyes, puckers his lips, and waits for Bruno to seal the deal. Bruno can't quite make himself kiss a guy, so he tells Bruno he doesn't want to jinx things, in case Tito didn't like it, they'll just wait a bit. Hmmmm.
Marisa goes to see Joaquin, who bluntly tells her, either Lalo agrees to give concerts for free, or he's out of the school. She's offended, says fine, we're leaving. But Lalo undercuts her, and offers to "negotiate". I'm not too happy with Lalo's smugness. Even Marisa says he's boasting a bit. But she can still give him a tickle torture!
Belinda feels a bit sorry for Hugo, even after what he did. He's just about to get deported, when she shows up with a lawyer who should be able to help him. There's one condition, though. He has to leave her in peace, and agree to give her a divorce!
I was actually really disappointed with last night's episode. I wrote a longer post about this on the forum: http://foro.telenovela-world.com/n4/read-t.php?f=987&i=1767&t=1755#reply_1767. It seemed like they took a step backwards and it was more of the same. I'm getting frustrated with how little progress is made. Marisa wants only a professional relationship with Cris, Sara is still up to her usual tricks, Belinda wants a divorce but somehow Hugo will convince her otherwise or just beat her again after the lawyer she stupidly got for him saves him from being deported, Bruno and Tito are a waste of time and so are Yaya and Lalo at school. Not too happy with last night's episode.
Lucía shoots Rafael in the chest and is ready to finish him off when Mariano wrests the gun away from her. I STILL don’t like Lucía. Mariano screams at her in Quesada’s office. She tells him she knows there won’t be any justice for the murder of Pablo in this town. She tells him that there’s only one person trying to bring justice and prosperity to this town: Abel Torres. And Abel gave her the gun. [I’m thinking: You stupid cow; if you go to jail, what happens to that child of yours.]
Cat and Rocío continue their heart-to-heart. Cat sort of loses it talking about Mariano. She says that Lourdes organized the kidnapping of Flor Salvaje and that she helped her. She was crazed with love for Sacramento and thought scaring Flor would make her leave town. Rocío reminds her that what happened to Flor also happened to her. Rocío seems to have recognized that her new BFF is a reckless person. She tells her she’s afraid now and walks off.
We get another monotonous scene of Abel Torres trying to manipulate Flor. He holds her hands while telling her she’s made a great step forward recognizing her mistake in falling for a killer, that she was an innocent dreamer when she came to NE. She tells him she’s made a decision. After everything that’s happened, she’s not going to love ANY man, and that includes him. He should stay away from her. Whoops. Abel realizes his plan backfired.
Sacramento makes a complete ass of himself in the movie theater lobby. He acts toward Dudi as if he’s a mad rapist, and yells at Susana for deceiving him.
Abelardo finds Beba sitting and crying. He tries to comfort her, but the distrust runs too deep. I think Abelardo may be on his way to redemption. He offers to take her to Amanda, and this she accepts.
Cat begs forgiveness from Rocío. She promises to help her see again. Rocío seems to have some insight into her brother. She says she recognizes that SHE’S the excuse to kill, first Emilio and then Lourdes.
Mariano calls Abel and tells him he has the woman HE brought to Nueva Esperanza in the office of the jefe civil. She shot Rafael Urrieta and he’s in grave condition. Abel smiles.
Flor comforts Beba and then takes her to Hacienda Rojas. Sacto has just realized that he was so angry he left Beba alone, and is ready to organize a search. Flor asks why he didn’t let Susana go to the movies. Does he plan to keep her locked up? He says he would have taken her to the movies. Flor tells him sarcastically: “Why don’t you just take her to Brigida and the saint brigade so they can all go to church?” She tells him to be very careful not to offend Susana about her behavior. He had better not put her through what he put she herself through: jealousy and suspicion.
Abel tells Lucía she has to pretend to be crazy.
Manuela also lays into Sacramento. She says she’s a schoolteacher, and girls Susana’s age (16) go to the movies with boys all the time. Sacto insists Dudi had designs on Susana’s body. He knows him. He already has been with Correcaminos. Manuela shoots back. If rumor is true, so did you. Does this make YOU someone who takes advantage of women?
Quesada rightly chews out his small police force. HOW did the women get to Rafa’s cell with a gun? Then Mariano sits down with Abel. Mariano is a very smart guy. He said he wanted RU out of the way, but not this way. He reminds Abel that he presented him to the town as an upright guy. I think Mariano smells a rat. What will people say about you and about me when they learn that the one who shot Rafael is your friend and that you gave her the gun. Plus there’s the issue of what they told him at the morgue. If Rafael Urrieta survives, he’ll be a free man. Abel loses his cool. “What do you mean, a free man?” The body that was dug up was NOT Pablo Aguilar. For once Abel doesn’t smirk.
Piruetas announces the shooting of Rafa over Radio Nueva Esperanza. Manuela hears and comes in to tell Sacto and Flor. Sacto asks what Lucía was doing in NE again. Flor tells him Abel brought her there to get her husband’s body. Sacto asks why that would matter to Abel.
Zahra tells Enrique that she’d like him to keep his uncle’s newspaper going. She’ll sell the hotel, if necessary, to get the money to buy out Filomena. Enrique embraces her.
Flor is trying to comfort Susana. Susana tells her he’s projecting onto her what happened to his mother and to Amanda (prostitution). And she also tells her sister that she realizes that Sacto lost her because of his jealousy and keeping her asphyxiated. [Great. Susana is growing up.]
Quesada and Mariano put their heads together. This shooting of Rafa in his cell makes them look very bad. Quesada reminds him that HE was the one who believed Flor Salvaje when she said Rafa would show them the body.
Abel drives to the hospital with Arsenio. He refuses the bodyguard’s offer to accompany him and goes inside. He sees Rufino, absolutely distraught, and manages to avoid being seen. He hovers over an unconscious RU and calls him daddy.
Suddenly there’s a HUGE television we’ve never seen before in the Rojas Living Room. Mariano announces that Lucía had come to NE to collect her husband’s body and was driven crazy when she discovered that the body in the morgue was not Pablo Aguilar. Rafael Urrieta fooled everyone. Clever move on Mariano’s part. Lucía did NOT know the body was not Pablo’s when she shot RU.
Flor, realizing she was deceived, rushes off to the hospital.
Hombre, your recap is appreciated as always. Nancy you are right about the plot losign traction and going nowhere...kinda like a meat grinder: we hear it grinding, but no sausage is coming out.
I am sad to see Catalina put out of action, she was a real doozy and fun to watch. Hope she will be back. Bet it will be hard to keep up that hairdo in prison. Meanwhile, Lalo's really getting on my last good nerve, showing off to all the grownups how smart he is.

We now have some backstory on Gonzalo, the drugged out kid whom I said was "not so bad". Fortunately, his little sister Emily didn't swallow the drug pill she thought was candy, she spits it out. But Gonzalo doesn't realize this at first, grabs her roughly, yelling, did you swallow it? She thinks Gonzalo was hitting her, and screams. The Mom, Benita, rushes to her daughter's defense, pointing out to Gonzalo that in this country, you can't hurt a child, he could go to jail. She reminds Gonzalo of everything she's sacrificed for Gonzalo, showing her rough hands from all the scrubbing, etc. After a bit of yelling, Gonzalo tells her he was trying to prevent Emily from swallowing his drugs. Benita is even MORE upset now. How can you do this to us, using drugs?!! After all I've sacrificed!
Gonzalo says you abandoned me! We were in Mexico and you left me all alone in the streets as a child. Yes, but I worked here in the U.S. for money to bring you a better life here. Now we have some money. Mom, says Gonzalo, I didn't want money, I wanted your love. That's why I do drugs! Okay, this makes a little sense, and Benita realizes she hasn't been perfect. Later, Sebastian, having seen no evidence against Gonzalo on his phone, apologizes, and Sebastian, Gonzalo and Leo are pals again.
Patty has the hots for JP, but denies it. He knows she does, and toys with her a bit.
Oliver wants to blackmail Miranda and Mauricio. They'd better not reveal he tried to rape her (he doesn't admit it, says it's their word against his), or else he'll report Miranda to the cops (Miranda says he has no proof either). But in class, Oliver really gets slimy. He hands in a blank pop quiz, demands that Miranda give him an "A". She says, you're getting a "F". He says the only F I'll get is if I "F" you! He adds a lascivious tongue movement for good measure. This does not sit well with Miranda.
She later talks to her Mom in Mexico, who says age doesn't matter, HER mother was only 16 when she was born, if Mau is good she should go for it. Miranda points out it's a crime in the U.S. Okay, then knock out that nail with a new one (get a new boyfriend). Not so easy.
Someone else who wants to knock out that nail is Elizabeth, aka Eli, aka Lizbeth, Mauricio's girlfriend. Mau dumps her. Eli is wearing the tightest skirt and highest heels you could get by with. I'm not complaining. Yesenia is her BFF.
As to Yesenia, earlier we saw her in prison, speaking to someone, saying I finally have enough money together.
Anyway, back to the girls. Yesenia seems to think sex without love is fine, and that's what Eli should do. Yesi opens her laptop and starts a video chat with a guy. The guy takes off his shirt, then pants, then jockeys, and the girls marvel "look at the SIZE of that thing". Eli is all set to meet this stud, when they figure out it's Gonzalo! Whoops!
Miranda keeps having these visions of being taken away to prison. She decides she's going to report Oliver to the principal, and if she gets fired, she'll deal with the consequences. But Principal Teresa is too busy to listen. The kids start talking, the cops are on campus. Someone's going to be arrested. Miranda fears the worst, tells Patty the cops are coming for her. Patty doesn't understand, since Miranda never told her the whole story. Miranda is just about to blurt out everything when the cops walk right past her.
They're accompanied by Orlando, father of Sebastian, who is also the local prosecutor. It seems they searched Oliver's house, found the same drugs that led to the deaths of Rodrigo and Oswaldo, and OLIVER's under arrest!!!!
And if I remember my captions correctly, when Leonardo ran into Gonzo he made some sort of joke that was likely a hint as to what went down at the party. It's still not really clear, but it apparently was indeed sexual in nature.
As for Oliver...he's the only other link to the drugs and the party besides Gonzo, and definitely the more extraneous one now. So seeing the police show up to arrest Smug McSquarehead and his subsequently flipping out and taking Miranda hostage--wiping out whatever credibility he might have had WRT her--was in retrospect a good and even necessary thing. He's merely the second speedbump in Miranda and Mauricio's "No puede ser!" relationship. :)
Right, Bill, I actually forgot that at the end of the show, Oliver pulls a knife and holds it to Miranda's throat. Not a good move.
Evil Abel gloats over the sleeping form of Rafael Urrieta, and then puts a silencer on his very big gun (overcompensating, perhaps?). The nurses come in to move Rafa to another room, thwarting Abel’s murder attempt. I was thinking: not very smart Abel. Why not just put a pillow over his face like most of the TN villains do and they’ll think he died naturally?
After being snarled at by Rufino, Flor finds Abel at the hospital. She quite sensibly asks what he’s doing there. He cranks up some BS and tells her he was checking on Rafa’s condition because of his concern about Lucía being charged and also feels guilty about bringing her there.
Dudi comes to face Sacto at the Rojas hacienda. He reminds him of helping Sacto when he didn’t even have enough to eat. Sacto goes right ahead behaving like an ass and knocks Dudi down. Dudi tells him he respects Susana. Susana hears about the uproar and comes into the room, getting between the two. She tells him that his jealousy destroyed their family. His behavior is why Amanda left. Do you want me to do the same? Later on she refuses to come in to dinner. Sacto eventually softens a bit. But it’s unclear if he’s really going to allow her to date Dudi.
Zahra tells Abel she can’t figure out where Lucía got the gun. He brushes that aside, saying it’s only important that justice was done. He’s going to hire lawyers for Lucía. Zahra continues to be oblivious to the faults of her evil spawn.
Flor has decided to drown her sorrows with champagne. Ana sits down with her to rub salt in her wounds about believing Rafael.
Now that Johnny has been released from jail, he comes to see Alicia and overhears her talking about “the plan” and mentioning his name. He gets nasty with her, but she just tells him the plan is another drug sale, and did he not want to be included this time? He simmers down, and later Alicia and Enrique talk about Diego doing another buy. Diego is into it. But when Johnny goes to Abel about the drug deal, he tells him he’s going to eliminate the guy who wants to buy [because he’s competition, I assume.]
Ines is sticking close to the medicatura, but she’s paying no attention to Evaristo and is reading Bride and Wedding magazine right beside the examination table! She tries to interest José María, who tells her she should go home. He says he’s sticking around for some investigations. When she keeps butting in, he tells her he’s studying an operation to restore Rocío’s sight. She isn’t smart enough to shut up and whines about why he’s paying so much attention to “that woman”. He tells her that medicine is his profession and his passion. When she keeps on pushing, he tells her he’s going to be sincere with her. The love that he feels for Rocío also gives meaning to his life. If he’s capable of repairing her eyes, he’s going to do it. This shuts her up and she leaves.
Rafa wakes up delirious, calling for Flor. Rufino is overjoyed to see him wake up. But he can’t resist trying to get at Flor, and tells him he saw Flor and Abel kissing in a public place. Nice one, Rufino. Guy wakes from a coma and you have to vent your spleen. Actually I wonder about Rufino’s sexual orientation. He’s a little too attached to Rafael Urrieta.
Mariano tells Abel that he’d be a lucky man if Rafa died. Otherwise the whole town will be against him when he’s released for lack of the correct body. Abel hints to Mariano that maybe Rafael could die in the hospital.
Diana makes another try for Sacto, showing up at the hacienda. He tells her that a woman like her belongs in the capital, and that he’s not the right man for her.
Flor is getting drunk in the 4P. Abel approaches and says he just wants to dance with her. Yeah, right!
Thanks for the last couple of recaps, Novelera. The action on this one seems to have slowed down.
Sacto sure was a big hypocrite in coming on all righteous to Dudi. Compared to Sacto's sexual exploits, Dudi is a monk. And, there's nothing like forbidding something to make it irresistible to an adolescent.
If Abel hadn't been blabbing so much, he could have shot Rafa 50 times but you are right, in his condition, Rafa would have succumbed easily without leaving any evidence that the folks in NE could find.
Have you noticed that at the beginning of the novela, it was a big deal involving a boat trip to get from NE to Timotes. But now people zip back and forth from one to the other without any effort. Is the hotel in NE or Timotes? The jail and the hospital are in Timotes. Of course, the 4P's, Dudi's store and JM's clinic are in NE.
I meant to say that Rafa would have succumbed easily to being smothered by a pillow, etc.
I'm really tired of Marisa rejecting Cristobal. How many times do we have to hear her tell him no? She's getting on my nerves and I used to really like her. She's just too harsh toward Cris and he really hasn't done anything that bad compared to her ex Victor. On Facebook and Twitter yesterday, they were saying last night's episode would be "explosive" and it was a "can't miss" episode, but I watched it and don't know why they said that. It would have been explosive, shocking, etc if Marisa actually said yes to Cris that she would be by his side for the campaign. Nothing surprises me at this point on this show. I knew she'd say no. Very predictable.
Jean, you're right. They have left out all those tiresome boat trips, and Timotes appears to be a stone's throw from NE now.
The hotel is in NE. Tío Francisco made a big deal out of buying the hotel in that town, telling someone (Filomena?) that the large oil reserves meant that the town would grow and become prosperous.
Yes, the hospital is in Timotes, while JM's clinic is in NE. Have you noticed how weird that jail building in Timotes is? It's pastel and looks more like a place to buy baby clothes than a police station.
Oliver has Miranda with a knife at her throat. He's trying to get out something about her and Mauricio, so Mauricio jumps in and knocks the two of them apart. Oliver goes to stab Mauricio, but the cops taser him. Shocking! :) He's taken away, as everyone criticizes Mauricio for taking such a risk. I think Miranda is grateful, though she doesn't admit it.
In jail, Oliver isn't saying much. He may get several years. If he does mention Miranda and Mau, the cops may not believe him. But prosecutor Orlando says Oliver is just part of the drug chain in the school, and he wants to investigate EVERYTHING. This could be bad for Gonzalo, and for Miranda and Mau.
Loose Liz wants some sex with Gonzalo. They go to this fancy house and start to undress. She's down to her undies, he goes all the way, which prompts her to say "you're not pierced?" This means he's not "machote" from her chat session yesterday. No matter, she rolls the condom on (out of our view of course). But Gonzalo see a picture on the wall. It's principal Teresa. This is her house! He gets freaked out, but then Teresa also shows up in person! He hides, half naked.
Teresa sees Liz in her bra and panties, asks what she's doing. I was going to feed the fish. Half nude? Well, then I was going to sunbathe. Teresa doesn't believe this for a minute. Turns out Liz is Teresa's ex stepdaughter, that's why Liz had keys, which Teresa takes back. Liz leaves, Gonzo is still in the closet. Teresa gets down to HER underwear and high heels, walks around like that drinking wine. Realistic? You decide. Gonzo sneaks out, but I think he forgot his phone.
Yesenia asks Alejandro is he's gay. Of course not, he lies. Well, she says, I believe in free love, and if you aren't gay, we could have fun. She kisses him on the lips. Did he feel that? Later, all the guys are in the shower (lots of skin for the delight of the female audience, I guess), and Alejandro seems to be staring. The other guys, especially Leo, make fun of him, and he again says he's not gay. Sebastian defends him a bit. We also meet Diego, another handsome athletic type with dark hair, who seems a bit snobby and mean.
Patty wants to help Miranda forget about Mauricio (she just thinks Mau likes Miranda, not mutually), so she suggests the four teachers (Miranda, Patty, Santiago and JP) go on a dinner date tonight.
Santiago has been assigned to do a report or presentation on drug problems, partnered with a very nervous Patty, since she's the biology and chemistry teacher, and should know about drugs. This will provide for a lot of comedic moments between the two.
We also meet Ana Conde, the History teacher (Maritz Bustamante), who seems very cold in introducing her husband Gilberto, the music teacher.
JP keeps receiving threatening emails, notes, and even thinks a live person is stalking him (some guy with a hoodie who told the security guard he was JP's son). He asks computer whiz Leo to trace the text he receives, and Leo does, pointing to a spot on a map of Miami which JP knows well. What's up with THIS mystery?
I'm enjoying all the side stories even more than the main one of forbidden love.
Rafa tells Rufino that if he lies about Flor kissing Abel, he’ll kill him.
Flor comes to see Rafa to accuse him of lying. She’s sure he spent hours laughing at her gullibility. They argue, and he has a bad spell, needing the nurse. Rufino subsequently confesses that he was the one who moved Pablo’s body. He did it because he was sure that, when Flor asked to see Pablo’s grave site, she was going to have him arrested. Rafa is furious. He says that Flor will never believe him again because of what Rufino did. Sacramento listens to this outside the door, realizing that Rafa really did plan to be arrested to show his love for FS.
Earlier in the episode Flor and Abel dance. She’s quite flirtatious. Abel seems to think he’s almost got her. But she pulls away after one dance. And later, when Olga starts to tell Flor what a great match Abel would be, Flor explodes, telling her everyone is pushing this guy down her throat. She’s not for sale!
We see some pairing off at the 4P. Titi says he has big bucks to pay for Ana, and Mina and Mr. Peter seem ready to seal the deal. Flor, however, tells Ana to tell Piruetas to divvy up Alicia’s other clients. Ana gripes, of course, but Flor insists Alicia does her part singing and dancing. Meanwhile Mariano is trying to bully Correcaminos into being with him, asking her to call him “Alcalde”. She looks complexly repulsed, and I’m pretty sure Flor gets her out of it by having Piruetas get her up on stage to perform.
Abel annoys me some more with a conversation he has with Enrique, having the cojones to tell him he’s surprised he loves Alicia because of the line of work she’s in. Enrique says his love is unconditional. Abel says he heard she was involved in the world of drugs. [Why doesn’t someone punch this guy out? I would if they let me on set!] Enrique replies that that’s all in the past.
Sacto visits Lucía and finds out about Abel giving her the gun. He very intelligently asks who in this town would want to hurt her and why does she need a weapon to defend herself? Sacto figures out what’s going on and goes to see Rafa. This is when he overhears him chewing out Rufino for doing the body switch.
Sacramento and Rafa come to a guarded understanding. Sacto agrees that Abel deliberately gave Lucía the gun, knowing she was in an emotional state and likely to do what she did. Rafa says it wouldn’t surprise him if Abel were involved in the murder of Francisco, precisely to incriminate him.
The Governor chews Quesada and Mariano big time for not having found Francisco’s killer. When Mariano says Rafa is still a strong suspect, the Gov basically says BS. The town now views him as a victim and you as a buffoon for arresting him. Get busy on the murder of Francisco; no one cares about that other body (Pablo).
Sacto comes to confront Abel about giving that gun to Lucía. He tells him he knows he didn’t bring her here to bury her husband; he brought her to use her. Abel drops the nice guy mask, stands up, and tells him to be careful how he speaks to him. Sacto doesn’t back down. “Why did you give her the gun? You did it so she’d shoot Rafael Urrieta.” There’s been some shouting, and Zahra shows up saying she wants the two of them to be friends. Sacto’s parting shot is that he tells Abel he doesn’t believe his “front” for a minute.
Johnny has come to get Diego (the pretend drug buyer) to take him to meet El Jefe. He says Alicia has not yet earned the right to meet him. Enrique takes lots of pictures of Diego and Johnny walking off together. Hopefully this will be evidence, because I’m sure Diego is toast.
Thanks Hombre and Bill for this week's recaps. I"m missed some of the episodes, but saw most of last night's. The principal walking around in her undies was interesting...I guess everyone in this show is going to get their naked or near naked moment. I wonder if it's in all their contracts? :) I agree that the side stories are more interesting than Miranda and Mau. Actually, I'm annoyed by Mau. He does understand the concept of jail, right? He needs to leave Miranda alone.
Yayyyy! Finally, more Santiago! Love Carlos Ferro, and Anna is so fun to watch, so endearing (so different from her other roles!)... love these two together!!
Vivi, I totally agree... Mau is getting annoying. He seems to have no regard for what could happen to Miranda. Selfish desgraciado.

Since daily recaps aren't being posted here anymore and I don't get CC3 on my TV, I searched and found that there are weekly video recaps with English subtitles on YouTube. These are very helpful because I can see exactly what they are saying instead of my usual general idea of what's going on. Anyway, the links are below if you want to watch these videos too.

The four teachers meets for a little dinner and drink at an outdoor restaurant. Things are pretty standard until Miranda spies Mau, on his moto, having followed the group, looking at her with his puppy dog eyes. In an attempt to throw the dog off the scent, she suddenly kisses JP on the lips! Mau leaves with tears in his eyes.
Gallant JP pays the bill, saying the ladies can pay "next time". He takes Miranda home, goes for some leg touching and is rebuffed, kissing rebuffed. He's surprised after that big kiss, but she says she wants to go slowly (VERY slowly, I'd say), and he respects that. As for Patty and Santiago, he also wants to make progress, and they kiss, but she pulls away, saying she's "old fashioned". He thinks she's a virgin (so do we :)
Speaking of virgins, Leo Max (I'll call him Max from now on) is in his car with Sofia (Mau's sister), and he wants to go all the way, but she's also a virgin, and isn't yet ready to "deliver" herself. But they're novios, why hasn't he listed her as his novia on his facebook page? He says if they go all the way, he'll definitely update her status. Tempting!!
Liz tell Yesi about her almost sex with Gonzalo, the fact that he wasn't machote. Yesi knew this (I'm thinking Oliver is machote). Yesi gets a call from Oliver from jail. You know HIM? asks Liz. Well, I let him fool around with me once, the way I do with ALL the guys, says Yesi. Now he thinks I'm his novia, and he even asked for MONEY! That Yesi should be a little more careful.
We also are introduced to a new character, Ricardo, who is Liz's father, and the ex-husband of Principal Teresa. Liz explains that Ricardo still wants to get back with Teresa, who never bore him any kids (Liz hates Teresa). Her father owns some chemical patent or something, and is rich. She thinks he's a saint (I'm not so sure).
Oliver calls Mau from jail, says he hasn't talked YET. Mau later visits Miranda, says he'll handle Oliver. He says he KNOWS Miranda was faking that kiss with JP. He also tells her JP has something to hide! He knows this because he's also friends with Max, whom JP asked to help with those threatening messages. It looks as if tonight we'll find out who's sending them!
Gonzalo and Max smoke a joint in his car. Gonzo wants Max to hold his stuff, but Max is smart. No way.
More fun tonight!
And count me in as another who's more fascinated by the secondary stories than NPS (yup, "no puede ser!"). This is more of a knock against the writers than the actors, though; NPS is in a holding pattern right now while they continue to introduce characters and stories. Sandra and Gabriel Coronel, particularly Gabriel, have been holding up their end...even if it doesn't come off exactly as intended, like with Mau's epic "Nooooooooo!" face when he saw Miranda kiss JP. I haven't laughed like that in months.
Bill, you could be right, the call from the jail to Yesi could have been from the mystery guy.
Ana tries to convince Flor to accept Abel Torres. This is one material girl for sure.
Rafa tells Rufino to tell Flor about his changing the bodies. Rufino goes into his broken record routine about how Flor doesn’t deserve him and that she cuckolded him besides. Rafa grabs hold of him, and for once Rufino shuts his piehole.
Enrique is following Johnny and Diego, but the insufferable duo of Caridad and Frigida grab his arm insisting he discuss wedding pictures in the street. He loses sight of Diego.
Zahra, who is fast losing my sympathy, tells Sacramento what a bad guy Rafa is because he forced her to have an abortion. She doesn’t tell him the part about the “abortion” running around NE sticking his nose in everyone’s business.
In one of those famous telenovela coincidences, Sacto is at the hotel and sees Flor about to go into Abel’s room. He puts on one of his displays that drive everyone nuts. He accuses Flor of now making house calls. She’s turning the hotel of that fine man Francisco Losada into a bordello. She doesn’t flinch at all. She tells him she already told him not to meddle in her private life. He says that’s not the case because she’s a public woman, the woman of anyone who will pay. She tells him he’s the same judgmental guy he always was, with his air of Don Perfecto. She tells him she hopes he at least got off his pedestal long enough to make up with Susana.
Ana is bursting with excitement over Flor going to give Abel a chance. She rags on about it being high time considering that Rafa deceived her about where the body was. [Editorial Note: I don’t think Ana cares a bit about her sister moving on and being happy with Abel. What she wants is for Rafael to be hurt a lot by Flor’s defecting. She can’t stand it that he didn’t care about her at all and used her to get her sister. ]
We get a really fun scene of the P’s talking about Flor and Abel and then men in general. There were some great dichos. When Corre asks why Flor didn’t decide to go back to Sacto, Mina says: Un chiste repetido no da risa. (A joke isn’t funny the second time you hear it; i.e. Flor already knows what Sacto is about.) Corre, after being teased about Sacto, says: Dios le da pan al que no tiene dientes ( God gives bread to the ones without teeth.) I guess she meant he got mad skilz in bed but doesn’t really use them. La Mina says that Tampoco puede pedir perras del olmo (You can’t get pears from an elm tree). I really enjoyed the P’s gossip session!
Diego recognizes Abel when he is taken to the drug shack (no guys working there right now). He says he’s the new “investor” in town. Enrique, always very smart, figures out that maybe they didn’t take Alicia to meet El Jefe because she might know who he is. He also tells her that Abel said he could turn her into a singing star.
Diego isn’t talking. He says, yes, he sold the drugs locally. But he isn’t giving up who bankrolled him. Arsenio comes in, and he and Johnny proceed to beat him up.
Ana can’t keep her mouth shut. She spies Rufino and, grinning evilly, tells him that Flor has gone to Abel Torres in his hotel room.
The witches are cackling about the wedding plans. Ines looks completely miserable. Later Caridad asks her what’s wrong. Ines tells her everyone will have a great time at the wedding party. Afterwards, she’ll be alone with José María, and she knows very well that he loves Rocío and not her.
Sacto and José María are talking while JM is being measured for his wedding suit. Sacto tells him that Rufino was the one who moved the body. Rafa is his enemy,, but for the first time he feels sorry for him.
After talking a bit with Zahra, who gives her the green light to be with Abel, Flor apparently doesn’t wait for Abel to return. Abel hears from the receptionist that Flor went to his room. He is practically beside himself he missed her and asks Zahra about it. She tells him to look for her in the Calle de Consuelo.
Flor is furious with Ana when she hears that she told Rufino she’d gone to Abel’s hotel room. Just then, as always, Abel appears in the doorway. He starts to put some moves on her, after Ana leaves, coming up with his usual line of BS. He wants to see her shine. Just now her eyes look as if she’s coming out of a dark room into the light. Gag me with a spoon. He moves in for the kiss. She evades it at first and then sort of forces herself. But, at last, she breaks away and tells him she doesn’t want to be a different person. Forgive her, she says. Abel looks extremely frustrated. Good!
The Governor shows up to meet with Rafael. He’s passed the word along that if he doesn’t, Rafa will withdraw his money from the Gov’s party. He tells the Governor that someone is behind what’s happening, someone who wants to own the town. He tells him about being drugged in his cell and framed for Losada’s murder, and then being beaten up in his cell. Rafa says there are now deaths that don’t make sense and peons leaving their jobs for no reason and out of fear. The Gov tells him he’s heard of this in other towns and there’s usually the same reason: drugs.
Rafa also tells the Gov that Mariano is mixed up in this in some way. He’s crazy for power. Gov agrees.
JM goes to see Rocío, who keeps on saying there’s no reason for him to be there. He tells her about the Ophthalmologist who says he can restore her sight. She says she doesn’t want to go. Mariano comes in just then and gets all huffy. Where are you trying to take my sister? Later the doctor examines Rocío and says there’s a good chance to restore her sight, but it has to be done soon. Mariano doesn’t even look one bit happy. Maybe this guy likes her blind. He can sneak up and plant kisses on her forehead without her being able to move away. He also doesn’t like it when the doctor says she’s beautiful. He doesn’t like it when JM puts his hands on her shoulders in affection at the good news. What a dirtbag.
Sacto shows up with some toys for the baby and tells Cat he’s hoping for a better relationship between the two of them as parents to the child.
Abel’s goons don’t get anything out of Diego, but Abel shoots him.
It looks like the replacement novela is going to be called Corazón Valiente. The one brief scene they showed featured Adriana Fonseca with a gun in her hand. I remember this actress playing Chachi in Mariana de la Noche.
This soap is in "Etapa culminante" now. I liked the last two episodes -- it seems the story threads are finally starting to be pulled together a bit after some running in place the previous couple weeks.
In Tuesday's episode, I really liked the scenes of Flor running the 4P, the day to day scenes there and the relationships between the girls is some of the most interesting stuff in this soap for me. I also liked their gossip in last night's episode, though the girl's are awful quick to toss Rafa aside for the new guy -- understandable considering what a jerk he is to most of them. They are an entertaining bunch -- but it's sad that Zahra isn't around them much anymore as I loved her mother hen relationship to them.
I also really liked Ines's scene with her mother last night. In a lot of soaps, her character would just be an outright villain, scheming and lying to get the man she loves, but something this soap has been pretty consistent about is rounding the characters out and allowing the audience to empathize with even the roadblock type characters. She was a naive, slightly dumb girl with an awful mother who fell in love with a man who doesn't love her; and, of course, Jose Maria has led her on a lot because of his inability early on to forgive Rocio's past. It's looking like (and I hope) Ines is the one to call off the wedding and admit the pregnancy lie. It's probably too late on the show for her to get a happy ending with another man, but I hope her character gets a bit of redemption before it's over, sort of like how Diana has been allowed to have her dignity restored.
I also liked Catalina's nice little monologue talking about the beauty of the land.
Nancy, thanks for the links. I can't access them but if I go to someone else's computer, it's nice to know they are there.
Catalina vows revenge on Victor, Sara and Marisa. Then she gets the jailhouse smackdown from her cellmate for the "Cenicenta de Queens" story. Poor Lucas' wife is breaking up with him by phone. Estanislau is cranky that Cris wants to buy up property in the barrio for a free health clinic and help center. Tania confides to Leti that she and Jerome might have to move to Miami. And, wonder of wonders, the professional cardiac care nurse that Amelia hired to take care of Ty shows up...it's Yaya!
J in Oregon
J in Oregon - You're welcome. :) Hopefully, you'll be able to watch the videos sometime.
Victor is such an idiot. He told Marisa that Cristobal spends every night with Sara. I can't believe that she believed him. I hope Marisa tries to clear things up with Cris in the next episode, but she seems pretty upset, so I bet she'll just yell at him some more. I understand her anger, but she did practically push Cris to Sara, so even if he was with Sara (which he wasn't), does Marisa really have a right to be upset? I guess she thinks he's a liar now, but come on. Someone should tell her, "Be careful what you wish for." She shouldn't have told Cris so many times to be with Sara.
What's the point of Yaya pretending to be a nurse for Ty? I think that's really, really low of Sara. He needs an actual nurse to help him, but Sara doesn't think of anyone besides herself. I guess getting Yaya in Cris's house will somehow help her plan. Cris and Amelia know that Sara recommended Yaya as the nurse and Cris knows that Yaya is Victor's sister and he doesn't think that's fishy or weird at all? Come on. Cris is a good guy, but he seems a little clueless sometimes. He should be more skeptical of Sara and her intentions.
Also, it looks like all of the maids including Marisa will be working at Sara's event. That should be pretty dramatic. I bet that will be next week.
Okay, I'm only half watching this one. But I've seen some of the scenes with Ines. Maybe she could admit to Jose Maria the pregnancy was fake, but then it would turn out she really is pregnant, since they had sex on that operating table, and somehow, they'll end up together, and he ends up loving her! Or not.
I'm not watching, but I'm still reading the comments. Thanks, J and Nancy! Here's my nutty idea of Yaya as the nurse. It works! She's such a kind soul, and so attractive, that Ty could get healthy even though Yaya has no actual nursing skills. At least that's what happened on Hasta Que El Dinero Nos Separe, with a "nurse" named Ruby.
New character alert! We meet Violeta Verduga, a slightly chubby girl, and Cassius Dupont, a mild mannered black guy in Santiago's art class. They're drawing pictures from a statue of Michaelangelo's David. Violeta, who is the niece of Gilberto, the music teacher, and either husband or boyfriend of Ana, the history teacher, finds a kindred soul in Yesi, as they giggle about the size of the statue's you know what.
As for Cassius, he's an art genius, even without prior training. Sofia takes an instant liking to him, which royally upsets Max, who assaults poor Cassius in the bathroom, and shows some ugly prejudice (so does Gonzalo).
Patty and Santi are working on their drug presentation. Patty is shocked to find out that drugs are very harmful. Who knew? Ricardo (Liz's Dad, Teresa's ex)enters, and Patty fawns all over him, since he's a great chemist, and also wrote the letter of recommendation which got her this job.
JP catches the guy leaving notes. It's Mauricio! Well, actually, just this time. He tells JP it was just a club he's in, a prank, and later gets Max to back him up. But he still thinks JP is hiding something (so do we), and vows to Miranda he'll find it out. Miranda just thinks he's jealous, and she's sort of encouraging this with being friendlier to JP.
Mau said he'd take care of Oliver's silence? Well, yes, by PAYING him. Oliver wants $1000 by tomorrow. Don't do it, Mau!
Nora almost has sex with Sebastian, her dead boyfriend's brother. But Sebastian stops suddenly. Later, he tells Alejandro he's stopped suddenly several times. This makes Alejo think Sebastian might be gay. He might. In Alejo's dream, he strokes Sebastian, they kiss, but...just a dream.
These kids sure have raging hormones!
After killing Diego Abel tells Johnny that he feels better. Something didn’t work out for him earlier, but this fixed him right up. He says to himself that he rapidly substitutes one pleasure for another. One sick puppy.
Sacto has had an inexplicable change of heart. Before he only wanted the baby, now he passionately kisses Cat. She’s fearful of getting involved with him again and getting hurt. But later she rejoices with Luisa. She’s so beautiful when she’s happy!
There’s a weird scene in the ophthalmologist’s office. The guy is just being nice and in a normal way puts his hand on Rocío’s shoulder. Mariano decides that both the eye doctor and José María have been flirting with his sister and touching her. He decides there won’t be an operation. “I’m the mayor and she’s my sister. No operation. I’ll care for her. She might get bacteria from the operation.” He looks positively terrified he might lose control of her now that he has some.
Johnny and Arsenio dump Diego’s body in the river. Abel wanted it to be found with a silver bullet in it so a message is sent. Enrique and Alicia are increasingly worried about Diego’s long absence. Enrique eventually goes to look, telling Alicia to stay put. She can’t manage it and goes to look for both of them.
Sacramento comes to see Dudi. After a lot of sarcasm about friendship on Dudi’s part, we get to the gist of it, and how ridiculous it is. Dudi and Susana can be novios, but until she’s 18 they can never be alone together. He tells Dudi that he can’t forbid Susana to do things because she’ll think he’s a dictator and a cruel dad. So Dudi is the one who is forbidden.
JM is beside himself, reacting to Mariano’s insane refusal for Rocío to have the surgery. When MG says he’ll take care of her, JM says that there was a reason she left your house years ago to hide in the 4P because you cared for her so well. Mariano looks like he might strike him. JM says he thinks MG likes his sister better blind. MG replies that it’s because of the way the two doctors looked at his sister. Rocío meanwhile has gone into the doctor’s office, face glowing, and says she’ll have the operation.
Piruetas rehearses some part of the radionovela which is now going to be live on stage with Manuela. He has her wear a sexy dress and definitely shows some interest. Meanwhile Titi shows up at Hacienda Rojas to ask Avelino about his progress with Manuela and to warn him about Piruetas. Ave says he hasn’t declared himself. And Manuela complains that he hasn’t declared himself to Piru.
It appears the Governor is not as stupid as he seemed before. He shows up to speak with Quesada. He hints that Mariano is so power crazy that he uses his office only for his own ends. He warns Quesada that there’s likely a cartel coming in to NE. He also thinks maybe Francisco was killed because of being a newspaper reporter and exposing them.
JM is over the moon that Rocío is going to have the surgery. Ines sees this and bitterly comments that he’s not nearly so happy about their wedding. Ya think?
Arsenio has been following Sacto per Abel’s orders. He tells him that he visited the mother of his child at her hacienda. Abel is now very angry with Sacramento, telling Arsenio that he had the nerve to confront him about giving Lucía the gun. When he finds out Sacto is going to be a father, he smiles that psycho smile and says he knows what to do.
Flor tells Zahra that Abel told her his parents didn’t want him born and that his granny saved him. Zahra tries some more to get Flor to accept Abel in her life. Flor says she can’t do it until she stops loving Rafa. I can’t remember if it was with Zahra or Ana, but Flor mentioned that there was something about him…
Sacto goes to see Rafa. They talk some about Abel, and then Sacto tells him he needs to know the truth. Flor got the key from the receptionist at the hotel and went to Abel’s room to wait for him. Rafa believes him and appears to be very wounded by the news.
Rigoberto has a bad feeling about Abel also. He and Olga argue about it, but when she cuts her hand, he ends up kissing her.
Abel shows up in the stable at Cat’s hacienda. The horses make lots of noise. She goes into the stable and with a mask on he grabs her and tells her the father of his child needs to stay out of his business. Then he sets the stable on fire and locks the door from the outside. Now this makes no sense to me. If she lives and warns Sacto, he'll be blamed for doing it because Sacto will figure out whose business he’s been meddling in. And, if she dies, what’s the point of giving her a warning?
Was it just me or was last night's episode the most tradtionally novela-like thus far? Mauricio lies like a rug to JP, JP lies like a rug to Miranda, Max and Gonzo--I'm just going to call them Team Douchebag--going after the new kid for stealing their thunder with their girls, and Mauricio's kind of awesomely passionate (in that twisted-galan way) verbal essay about Tristan and bleeping Isolde. Let alone the whole Alejandro/Nora/Sebastian thing.
On the flip side, why is Gonzo apparently cursed to picture Principal Teresa walking around in her swimsuit all the time? It's kind of hilarious, but...
Thanks Hombre. You are so right about the raging hormones.
I keep thinking that they can't make the gay kid any more obvious. I'm sorry, but if you're a gay kid, in the closet, at a school where you would be beaten to a pulp for coming out, you would NOT be constantly giving a guy lusty looks with your mouth practically hanging open and your tongue lolling out. You would satisfy yourself with quick glances and lots of fantasies.
My favorite part of the show are the art and science teacher. It's funny how he openly lusts after her, and she is so thrown off guard by it.
Whoops, in the last paragraph of Part 2, I should have said: the father of HER child needs to stay out of his business.

You are right, Nancy: why is Marisa so willing to believe bad gossip from her worthless ex? Doesn't show much faith in Cris.
Anyway--Sara says her suspicions are confirmed: Lalo is Marisa's weak spot. She orders Bruno to find out everything about him--his age, his interests, his blood type. Que??? Bruno balks at this. Marcelo gushes over Amador at dinner. A tearful Leti admits to Marisa that she slept with Victor. Estanislau starts to wonder if Calixta is an undercover cop. Bruno tells Tito that he is starting to have fantasies about a woman (Sara) for the first time in his life. Sara calls Victor to her room, tells him she wants him to do some little jobs for her. Marisa confronts Cris about whether or not he spent the night in Sara's room.
Drumroll...oops, we have to wait until Monday to find out!
J in Oregon
Cris should have never stayed overnight with Sara, even if nothing happened. Now it's his word against hers and I'm sure she'll have no trouble lying about it. It looks like on Monday's episode Marisa will watch the security tape and then she's crying and calling Cris a liar. I don't know how he'll get out of this. Sara has already gotten in Marisa's head and is making Marisa question everything. Buying the hotel and hiring Victor were nothing compared to spending the night with the one woman Marisa hates. Cris should have known better and told Sara no because now he's in a mess. This will be really hard for Marisa to get over. I think this will drag on and on and she'll be furious with him for weeks.
Victor is disgusting and Lety is now too. I think Victor is the liar. He tells Lety one thing and then acts like he wants Sara too. He'll never change. I hope Lety realizes that sleeping with Victor was a mistake and then I hope she eventually dates Lucas.
I still don't understand what the point of the Bruno/Tito storyline is. Bruno got Tito to admit he's gay, but now what? Bruno says he likes Sara, so now Tito is clearly upset. I'm surprised that Bruno spoke up. Does Sara know Bruno was going to tell this to Tito or is Bruno going against Sara's plans? I think the whole thing was cruel and uncalled for and I hope Tito starts to realize that Sara is a bad person.
