La Que No Podía Amar #59 Lunes 3/19/12 How to Handle a Woman* (with apologies to Lerner and Lowe)

*It's too bad the wise old man is not here to advise the gentlemen.
That which has passed:
The guests gather at Camelot Montero Manor and Lord Rogelio is holding court. He requests that Consuelo fetch Her Ladyship. She does and he introduces her to Sir Gustavo. Both are astonished.

Current Happenings:
Vainessa's Office: She and Lord ShadyDeal talk about Lady Chatterley's return home and hope that Lord Rogelio won't dissuade her from returning to the office. Vainessa calls her mother to check up on her and is worried that La Vipora is still taking sleeping pills. She tells her that the pills give her the only peace she has had since Lord Federico's death and asks how she can go on knowing that her husband's bastard daughter has a happy life. She continues to encourage Vainessa's plans for revenge.
Montero Manor, Drawing Room: I Wonder What the King Is Doing Tonight
Rogelio: Is she not beautiful?
Gustavo (staring in disbelief): Yes, very beautiful.
As he has previously done, Lord Rogelio pointedly kisses Lady Ana Paula in front of the guests. She stares at Sir Gustavo as he pulled her down to be kissed and we wonder whether he noticed. Sir Gustavo goes into momentary shock, then realizes the folly of not remembering both her names at all times. Lord Rogelio encourages her to speak with Sir Gustavo.
Ana Paula (as though she were to begin an explanation): Gustavo –
Gustavo (extending his hand): It's a pleasure, Paula.
They briefly clasp hands while Lord Abel's wife (Lady Petra) says she hadn't seen Her Ladyship since her wedding day and how beautiful she looks. She compliments the diamond and pearl necklace; His Lordship comments that he had given it to her and that it is the least thing he intends to give her. Sir Gustavo cannot stop staring and his hostility appears to grow.
Vainessa's Office: She is on the phone with Lady Chatterley, who appears to have missed the strange happenings in the drawing room. In fact, because she is in her own private suite. Sir Gustavo had insisted upon meeting Lord Rogelio, who has forbidden her to leave. She does not wish to be there, but Vainessa explains that they need her to be there because she cannot come to Montero Manor anymore. Lady Chatterley asks why not.
Kitchen: Lady Daniela, dressed for dinner and with her hair woven in a manner reminiscent of a medieval veil, laments that Miguel can't join them. He tells her that it would be too dangerous, as anyone there could report his presence to the constabulary. Margarito bursts in, asking for Her Ladyship. Upon the revelation for his reason to search for her, Miguel starts for the door, but Lady Daniela manages to stop him.
Drawing Room: As Lord Rogelio converses genially with his guests, Sir Gustavo stares back at Lady Ana Paula, who has moved over toward the window. Tia MentiRosa enters and enquires the nature of Her Ladyship's consternation, then sees for herself. Lady Ana Paula is concerned at what would happen if His Lordship knew; she fears he would do violence to Sir Gustavo. Neither knows for the moment what is to be done. Before they can say much Knave Skelator arrives with the same enquiry, then turns around and stares.
D.F.: What do the simple folk do?
Efrain and Ulisses' family ride on the upper level of a tourist bus It is obvious that Macaria would like to live in Mexico City, but Ulisses is permanently in love with San Gabriel. Efrain complains of the traffic, but perhaps it is that his seat in front of Macaria prohibits his ability to capitalize on her assets. Ulisses is concerned about Efrain's reputation as a womanizer (which is news to us), but Efrain informs him that he respects his family and he should not be worried. But should he? After all, Efrain did save her from the varlet Rutilio.
Drawing Room: Skelator asks Tia MentiRosa what Sir Gustavo is doing there; she does not have a good answer.
Corridor: Miguel attempts to go to the drawing room, but Lady Daniela prevents his progress.
Drawing Room: Before I Gaze at You Again
Her Ladyship plays the charming hostess, finally encountering Sir Gustavo.
Ana Paula: Gustavo, may I speak with you? (The older gentleman departs) Gustavo, you can't stay here; you have to go. (They do not notice, but Tia MentiRosa is attempting to run interference to prevent His Lordship from hearing their conversation).
Gustavo: Why? So you can enjoy your marriage to the richest man in the state?
Ana Paula: No. Not for that. You need to leave immediately. Your life is in danger here.
Corridor: Lady Daniela and Margarito prevent Miguel from continuing on to the drawing room. She warns him that the constabulary is looking for him. She and the boy step in front of him to block his path and observe him ogle the two glasses of whiskey on a passing maid's tray. Miguel concedes to return to the kitchen, but asks that his sister see him if she passes by. Lady Daniela promises him, then sends Margarito after him. The boy is charged with keeping Miguel in the kitchen and seeing that he doesn't touch any alcohol. “I'll take charge of him,” says the brave lad. We wish him good fortune.
Drawing Room: Before I Gaze at You Again (Refrain)
As the unsuspecting members of the court continue to imbibe, Lady Ana Paula continues her quest to encourage Sir Gustavo's departure.
Gustavo: What are you talking about? How is my life in danger?
Ana Paula: Please leave. It did you no good to come here for me. (drags him out of the room by the hand into the corridor. Skelator watches as he sips his drink).
Gustavo: You should be ashamed of yourself. What makes you think I came here for you?
Ana Paula (taking his hand): Because you and I love each other.
Gustavo (pulling his hand back): Not any more. You made sure to kill what I felt for you.
Ana Paula: That can't be. And why did you come here to see me?
[Perhaps she is more Vainessa's sister than anyone knows.]
Gustavo: The guilty one here is you. You are responsible for your own actions.
Ana Paula: Gustavo, we –
Gustavo: There is no “us.” You said to live my life and I am doing so.
Ana Paula: I swear things didn't happen the way you think. How do you come to be here? Why are you here? (Tia MentiRosa enters)
Rosaura: Rogelio is asking for you. Don't complicate things more. Now you must take your place.
Gustavo: Go; your husband awaits.
Ana Paula: Please, Aunt. Convince him to leave here. (releases Gustavo's hand and goes back to the drawing room. Tia MentiRosa is clearly exasperated and nervous).
Rosaura: What are you doing here” I told you my niece was married.
Gustavo: Yes, and in this moment I just want her torn out of my life.
Rosaura: Then stop seeking her out. What do you want? To lose your life?
Kitchen: Miguel starts to pour himself a drink while attempting to persuade Margarito that this is nothing. Consuelo runs in and stops him in time. Lady Daniela has also enlisted her aid. She asks if he would prefer her to send for either Lady Ana Paula or Lord Rogelio. Margarito takes that as a command and runs out while she continues to keep watch over Miguel, who shows all the evidence of addiction.
Corridor: Fie on Goodness!
Rosaura: I told her to shrink from sharing her life with you and she did so.
Gustavo: And would it make you happy for her not to be with me?
Rosaura: What do you think? I heard that she asked you to leave. That's what you have to do.
Gustavo: One thing that's missing from this show she's putting on for her husband: The difference is that I do what I want.
Rosaura: Get out! Nothing good can come from you staying here.
Gustavo: Now I understand why you told my sister that Ana married a sick man. But I never imagined a paralyzed one. In what way is she taking advantage of this man?
Rosaura (exasperated): Well, now that you understand everything, please leave. Don't cause any more problems.
Gustavo: I am not leaving. I have reasons to stay. (as he exits, Skelator enters)
Bruno: Why did you let him go back into the drawing room?
Rosaura: He's more stubborn than a donkey. He doesn't want to leave. He says he has reasons to stay.
Bruno: What reasons? What is he trying to do?
Rosaura: I don't know. But we can't leave him alone; let's go.
(They also return to the drawing room, where Ana Paula is with Rogelio and Gustavo is talking to the older gentleman from before. Rogelio is happy, telling Ana Paula that all their guests like her. Daniela enters, looking for either Ana Paula or Rogelio. She seems to catch Ana Paula's eye, although Ana Paula appears not to know why. Maria enters with a tray of tequila shots. Skelator takes one of the shots.)
Maria (to Daniela): I am so happy. Sinthia has found a wonderful young man.
Daniela: Ah, Sinthia has a boyfriend?
Maria: Yes, and the best thing of all is that it looks like Rogelio has accepted him. Before the cocktails and dinner.
Rosaura: If you have time to talk you have time to serve the drinks. Don't forget that you are a servant.
Bruno: Relax. This is not a time to fight.Maria: Madame, if you think you have offended me you are very mistaken. I know who I am in this house. And also who has the affection of Rogelio and of Sinthia.
Bruno: Yes, yes, I know, I know.Maria: And it can't be taken from me. What I have I got through my work. I don't take orders from anyone else.Rosaura: Are you talking to me?Maria: It's not for Dani. Because she works for Bruno.Rosaura: Listen to me.Maria: Excuse me. (exits with the tray as Tia MentiRosa makes a gesture of frustration and Gustavo looks uncomfortably at Ana Paula)
Hospital, Ernesto's Office: Dr Ernesto is calling a florist to send a single daily red rose to Mercedes and pens a short note after ending the call. Despite her stated misgivings he is clearly not giving up any possibility of a relationship with her. His secretary enters and he instructs her to bring the note to the florist shop before the florist begins the series of deliveries.
Drawing Room: Follow Me
The guests are gathered around His Lordship. Lady Daniela is standing next to Lady Ana Paula as Lord Rogelio puts his arm around her and thanks their guests for coming over on such an important day. Lord Abel then thanks Lord Rogelio for accepting the presidency of the ranchers' association. Everyone applauds although Lady Ana Paula is standing in such a way that does not allow His Lordship to see that she is just going through the motions. His Lordship makes a brief and sincere speech about continuing this important work. Tia MentiRosa enters and interrupts to propose a toast. As they all drink Lady Chatterley enters in a beautiful royal blue dress more appropriate to her age and position. Lord Rogelio presents his “beloved and beautiful sister” to the guests, and she presents her suitor, Sir Gustavo. Suspense music begins as Lady Ana Paula is momentarily shocked. Lord Rogelio welcomes Sir Gustavo to the family and they toast. Lady Chatterley and Sir Gustavo kiss in full view of the guests. Lady Daniela puts her hand on Lady Ana Paula's shoulder and she composes herself. A few moments later Lady Daniela, Tia MentiRosa, and Knave Skelator observe this scene with some trepidation. Margarito bursts into the room, first to His Lordship, then yelling for Lady Daniela to come to the kitchen immediately; it's about Miguel. She leaves with him.
Rosaura: I'm sure that he's not here with Sinthia but for my niece.
Bruno: Gustavo didn't know whom Paula married.
Rosaura: So he was looking to find out. We have to get him away from her. It's obvious he still loves her.
Lord Rogelio kisses Lady Ana Paula's hand, then checks his watch and looks at Maria. She nods and he announces that the feast is about to be served and they should enter the great hall. He takes Lady Ana Paula's hands and she whispers she does not feel well before suddenly fainting. Sir Gustavo is there to catch her, and Tia MentiRosa rushes to lead the way out of the room. His Lordship follows her, and all the guests react in surprise and concern. The last two in the room are Lady Chatterley and Knave Skelator.
Kitchen: Lady Daniela enters to find Miguel (the Village Idiot) embracing Consuelo, who certainly could do better. The embrace is broken as Consuelo explains that Miguel was about to take a drink when she did what she could to stop him. Lady Daniela thanks her and Margarito, the latter of whom still requires etiquette lessons.
Lady Ana Paula's Bedchamber: Tia MentiRosa leads the way in, cautioning Sir Gustavo to be careful. He places her on the bed and she opens her eyes. Had she feigned the faint? Surely we will shortly know even if he does not. It appears at that moment that they will kiss.
Duran Residence: Lady Sneerwell cautions Sir Esteban that he is rushing into his relationship with Lady Chio, who is certain he has already proposed marriage. Does he want a mother for his heirs or a wife? He has not even spoken of love. He realizes that he is unprepared for marriage and has been most importunate. He sees the wisdom of her words as she advises him to speak honestly with her and not toy with her emotions.
Lady Ana Paula's Bedchamber: Tia MentiRosa begins removing Her Ladyship's shoes (which we note are far more appropriate to her current status). Lady Ana Paula lays on the bed, appearing unconscious.
Rosaura: Rogelio, I think we should leave her alone so she can rest.
Rogelio: The first we should do is send for a doctor.
Rosaura: Perhaps it was the pressure...
Gustavo: We should stay here to take care of her.
Rogelio: We'll send for Daniela and then the doctor.
Maria: Yes, Rogelio. (exits)
Rogelio: Everyone, leave me alone with my wife.
Rosaura: And your guests? What do we tell them?
Rogelio (pulling up to the bed and removing his crown hat): For me, nothing is more important than Paula. (takes her hand in his. Ominous music plays as Gustavo slowly exits the room, closing the door behind him.)
Gustavo (out in the corridor as the music changes to his and Ana Paula's love theme): It can't be. It can't be. This can't be happening. (pounds his fist on the trunk below the painting) It can't be. It can't be. It can't be.

D.F.: Ulisses and Macaria have a disagreement on whether it would benefit Maripaz to live and study there. She thinks they should spend some of their winnings for this. He is unconvinced.
Lady Chio's Gift Shop: Sir Esteban arrives as she finishes with a customer. She is pleased to see him and hands him a gift from the cabinet. It is a pair of yellow baby booties for their first child. She is puzzled at his lackluster reaction. He tells her “We must talk” which is a statement no lady wants to hear.
Corridor: As Sir Gustavo turns to exit, Lady Chatterley enters.
Sinthia: What happened?
Gustavo: Your brother is sending for a doctor.Sinthia: You helped because you're a gentleman, but this low-life doesn't deserve a thing. She's a fortune hunter and a truly evil person. (takes his hand) Will you accompany me to look after the guests?Gustavo: Yes, yes; well done, my love. (not looking into her eyes) Your brother said he won't leave Paula's side.Sinthia (laughing): You don't say. How strange. That's it. (composes herself) Let's go down to the guests. It's best you get to know them because someday I will get my part of the inheritance and we will entertain them.
In some way it appears that he did not hear her last statement, as though he had been placed under a spell.
Lady Ana Paula's Bedchamber: Lord Rogelio remains by her side. Tia MentiRosa paces.
Rogelio: Stop pacing and leave me alone with my wife.
Rosaura (stops and sits on the trunk at the foot of the bed): I want to be near her. What can I do?
Rogelio: With me you don't have to pretend that you care about Paula. (grabs her arm, pulling her toward the door) Get out. (Tia MentiRosa exits, staring as she closes the door behind her.)
Rogelio (stroking her hair): Paula, how do you feel, my love? (Their love theme begins as he starts to kiss her hand) I know I've done some bad things – (Daniela, Margarito, and Miguel enter, Daniela handling a black bag)
Daniela: I'm here.
Margarito: What happened?
Miguel: What happened? Did you hit her? Did she fall?
Rogelio: No, no, relax. Nothing happened. Everything's alright. (Maria enters)
Maria: The doctor will be here right away, Rogelio.
Rogelio: Thanks.
Miguel: We should go and wait for the doctor. (exits with Maria and Margarito, watching Lady Daniela as he closes the door.)
As Lady Daniela takes out a stethoscope and other medical equipment Lord Rogelio watches with a worried expression. Lady Ana Paula lies motionless on the bed.
Lady Chio's Shop: Sir Esteban is paying the consequences of his previous haste as Lady Chio upbraids him as well as herself. She knows his emotions have been tainted by Vainessa, but calls him a cad anyway. She orders him to leave.
Drawing Room: Fie on Goodness! (Refrain)
Lady Chatterley and Sir Gustavo come down to the guests. She informs them that Her Ladyship does not feel well; the hope nothing serious has happened, and that they should all go into the dining room while they await for His Lordship. They are still celebrating his appointment and her engagement. However, Sir Gustavo's mood is not that of a happy future bridegroom; he needs to be led by the hand and he will likely not be making good conversation. Tia Mentirosa and Skelator speak to each other about Sir Gustavo's true intentions and how his marrying Lady Chatterley would interfere with their plans, as it is not in their interests for Lady Chatterley to claim her half of the estate.
D.F: Out on the street Maripaz tells her father she would like to study psychology; he still has his doubts based on his perception of the dangers of the big city. Later at the hotel Macaria surprises Ulisses by wearing a lovely silk aquamarine nightdress ('Tis a pity his bedclothes are so uninteresting in comparison). He puts down his book and they proceed to enjoy a kiss. However, they are interrupted by a call from the person they left in charge, informing him of a vermin infestation. Macaria is not pleased at the interruption and less pleased at Ulisses' decision to return home in the morning.
Lady Ana Paula's Bedchamber: The doctor informs Lord Rogelio that Her Ladyship suffers from nervous tension. She is to rest and have peace and quiet. She also has a touch of depression. His Lordship declares he personally will take charge of her recovery.
D.F., Hotel Room: Macaria expresses her displeasure at Ulisses. This is the first holiday they have had in many years. He fears losing everything if he doesn't go back, thus he decides to go back to solve the problem and rejoin Macaria and Maripaz in a few days' time. Efrain knocks, having heard the raised voices. Ulisses asks him if he will take care of his family while he goes back to San Gabriel to solve the problem of the rats. Efrain notices Macaria in her silk and accepts the assignment... and the money and admission tickets Ulisses gives him. We may be headed for bawdy times once again. Or not, as Macaria notices Efrain's interest, covers up, and quickly exits with feigned shock, leaving him in a state of disappointment.
Drawing Room: Camelot
Lord Abel and Lady Petra are the last remaining guests. Lord Rogelio has not come down since Her Ladyship fainted. They rise to take their leave and exchange a few words with Lady Chatterley regarding his brother's property. She clearly knows nothing of Vainessa's master plan, noting that Lord Raimundo's property would be a great addition to the Montero estate. She sees them out and Sir Gustavo stands alone in the room until Consuelo returns. He politely enquires regarding Her Ladyship's condition and Consuelo replies that she hopes it is nothing serious, as Lord Rogelio would die if anything were wrong with her.
Miguel's Bedchamber: Miguel is desperate for a drink; Lady Daniela persists in attempting ton convince him not to. He begins explaining that Consuelo asked him to carve a pineta for her and are we imagining that she is jealous? [Squire Hugo, you will need to make haste here.] Knave Skelator arrives and Lady Daniela leaves them alone, ignorant of the folly of this move. Miguel then tells Skelator that he doesn't like being responsible for his sister being there. Skelator looks as though he is waiting for a bigger weakness to be revealed.
Lady Ana Paula's Bedchamber: I Loved You Once in Silence
Her Ladyship has finally regained consciousness.
Rogelio: The doctor said that you were responding to too much tension. I know that Vanessa affected you badly but this was going on for a while before that. Tell me what happened to you.
Ana Paula: Nothing special. But I think I have to find something that will occupy me, distract me so that the days will pass more quickly.
Rogelio: Yes, I realized a little while ago your remaining time here seems like an eternity.
Ana Paula: I don't know how I can handle the idea of staying here another half year and that you could extend the contract as long as you wish.
Rogelio: I am not interested in extending the contract. You don't have to endure one more day at my side. I knew that in the remaining time here you would fall in love with me. If not, well, I will give you back your freedom.
Her Ladyship sits up in bed surprised, perhaps shocked. Lord Rogelio looks back at her with an expression that is both sad and ironic. Their love theme begins.
Drawing Room: The Simple Joys of (non)Maidenhood
Lady Chatterley pours two snifters of brandy while Sir Gustavo looks catatonic, as before.
Sinthia: Let's have a drink. (hands him one)
Gustavo: Why do you want a drink?
Sinthia: Because things went very well despite my idiot sister-in-law.
Gustavo: I understand you didn't like her, but there is something more serious.
Sinthia: This woman is capable of anything.
Gustavo: She is truly as mercenary as you say?
Sinthia (clinking his glass): Imagine this. (sips her drink) She's a nursing student just short of graduation. No experience, none; but she gets offered a job here for a lot of money. Does that require much thought?
Gustavo: And how did she end up married to your brother?
Sinthia: It was for ambition. When she got here she made it look as though she liked my brother and decided to conquer him at any price.
Gustavo: And what do you have to say about this?
Sinthia: That Rogelio was taken in by her. I swear. It looked like he gave it up.
Gustavo: I can't believe that Ana is like that.
Sinthia: Ana? Why do you all her 'Ana?'
Gustavo: That's her name, isn't it?
Sinthia: No. Her name is 'Paula.'
Gustavo: Ah. Well, I hope it's nothing serious.
Sinthia (mocking the fainting spell): I think she did this for attention. You know that Abel's wife insinuated that she might be pregnant? In view of my brother's condition, people are going to talk. It's impossible! Well, you know if my brother made her pregnant she'd take everything from him.
Suspenseful music plays as Sir Gustavo turns away to stare into space. Lady Chatterley embraces him from behind and continues talking.
Lady Ana Paula's Bedchamber: I Loved You Once in Silence (Refrain)
Ana Paula: Are you serious?Rogelio: Yes. Because I had hoped that all this time you've been here knowing the real Rogelio you would come to love me.Ana Paula (crying): I could never do that. Now least of all.Rogelio: Why now, Paula? Why least of all?Ana Paula: I don't just want to keep up appearances. I can't go on lying, Rogelio.Rogelio: It's just the other ranchers, their wives, Gustavo, my sister's boyfriend. –Ana Paula: No, no. Please, I can't pretend anymore. I can't pretend in front of anybody, please.Rogelio (taking her hand): I'm sorry, but it's better this way. I'm asking very little of you. Just to know me. Perhaps to love me. Love me as I love you.Ana Paula: Please don't think this. Because for the rest of our time together, my heart is not yours.
Lord Rogelio regards her with sadness.
Miguel's Bedchamber: Skelator tries to get him to talk and – as we expected him to – leaves him a bottle before being dismissed. Miguel drinks down more than half immediately after he exits. Despite that Skelator took the first sip out of the bottle, Miguel's face seems to imply that there is something wrong with the contents.
Lady Ana Paula's Bedchamber: I Loved You Once in Silence (refrain continued)
Rogelio: I beg you to speak truly, Paula, please. If you didn't have a fiance, would you be in love with me?
Ana Paula: The violent man I came to work for, no. Not with the man who was falsely leading Vanessa to the altar in revenge. But I started to feel something for the Rogelio of Lagunas de Montebello. I believed something was beginning to change.
Rogelio: That is who I really am and only you could bring that out. If you can do this, how can you speak of a boyfriend? If you can do that, give me another opportunity... and a little of your love?
The sadness in his eyes deepens as their love theme provides the exit music.

What will come to pass
Lady Ana Paula panics at the thought of the truth coming to light. She attempts to tell Sir Gustavo that she had never deceived him.

Awesome recap UA. So AP fainted from pressure and stress huh. Usually, in novelas when a woman faints, that means there's bun in oven. It hasn't been that long since she and Gus had relations though has it? If that is the case that she may be preggers how will she explain it to Rog?

Looks like Efrain is going to hit on Ulisses wife since she seems lonely for company. He is a horndog after all lol.

No, I don't think it's been long enough. And it would be too cliche at this point for Ana Paula to be embarazada.

Efrain will probably try; he is a horndog and Macaria deserves to have a secret she needs to keep from others. She needs a lesson on the evils of gossip.

Miguel is getting on my last nerve.

Thank you UA for this wonderful recap. Loved the Camelot reference, even though you scratched it out.

Ah, the Cupcake and Rohell. I like that Guscake was shocked. No time for explanations from either of them. They seem to talk at cross purposes all the time. Rohell was very solicitious of the Cupcake.
So Sin still doesn't know they were novios. I can't wait until she finds out.

Effer and Macaria are too funny. I don't think she will do it with Effer. Effer really has too much to lose there, I think.

The best part really was the Tia and Maria arguing. Everytime they start arguing they make me laugh. It is like one upmanship with the two of them, but Maria always wins. I love that.

I really hope the Chia Pet and Esteban are through. I don't like her. She seems obsessed with him. I like Ms Mercy and Esteban together better.

UA, thanks for the Camelot memories mixing in with the drama of Gus and AP concealing their agony. An excellent recap!

I saw Gus showing a cheek muscle when he clenched his jaw. And
Skeletor displayed some extreme bug eyes while watching Gus.

UA, you are right about AP's ears needing a little camouflage. At least we had a closer look at her dress while she was reclining on the bed.

So, Rohell still isn't aware of Gus' identity re AP? Lots of murky water ahead for the siblings and their presumptive love interests.

We don't need ChioPet. Efraim in the city--why?? And Miguel--so far beyond annoying he's in another galaxy.

La Paloma

UA:

Terrific recap. Well, AP still didn't spill the beans. Humprh!

Efrain is incorrigible—and Marcaria has been looking for a little adventure. Effrain is certainly a change from her nice (controlling) and conventional husband.

Can't abide Chio.

Thanks again for your Camelot themed recap, UA.

UA: Your words seemed to flow effortlessly coming together to weave a beautiful tapestry. The Lerner and Lowe theme was perfect. Honest yet heartfelt from beginning to end.

"Lady Daniela enters to find Miguel (the Village Idiot) embracing Consuelo, who certainly could do better" was my favorite line of many.

It seems as though Ana is edging away from both Gus and Rogelio with each passing night. I can't imagine where this is going as there is an ominous, obvious lack of trust from Gus to Ana and from Ana to Rogelio.

Baby booties? Sorry, I would be happy if Chio disappeared all together. It appears Mercedes may have convinced Esteban he was moving too quickly. Madelaine, I agree that I think Mercedes and Esteban will end up together - they are far more of a match.

So now there's at least an inkling as to why we've been treated to so many scenes with Efrain and Ulisses' family. Macaria seems to genuinely love Ulisses so would be surprised if something happens (but what do I know).

For the first time I felt badly for Gus. Still, as I said before, he's never trusted Ana and that has been the root of their problems. However, everyone in their orbit worked against them from the start. If they do end up together, it will be only through their sheer determination.

For William Levy fans, his debut on DWTS was stellar. As Carrie Ann said when she was judging "I love my job". He and Cheryl got the highest score of the night (up to that point). He danced divinely. No surprise.

Diana

Thanks, amigas. I don't know if I will be able to apologise to other authors every week with more than 100 episodes left to the story, but I will try. This one was so obvious to me as the theme of this episode.

The one difference is that Gustavo is a bit more volatile in his own emotions than Sir Lancelot was. However, Sir Gustavo did look a bit apprehensive when Lady Chatterley raised the issue of pregnancy so I guess that means that condoms don't exist in Boca del Cielo.

Lady Chatterley won't like it at all when she finds out that AP got there first with Gustavo. However, if she's still interested in him it would not be in her interests to tell her big bro. That would be the biggest setback ever. Which is why he has to find out one way or another.

Esteban needs a makeover. He needs to darken his hair and get some alpha-male clothes. Have we seen his bachelor pad yet?

Mercedes could end up with him because Ernesto's daughter will only continue to make life hell for her. She is her mother's daughter with all the immaturity of a child.

UA, a great recap of some very intense scenes. Love your Camelot cross-out.
Of course AP is pregnant, and it has been enough time.
Ovulate + intercourse-two weeks later you miss your cycle. And these girls never use protection. (Well, except Teresa who had a pregnancy allergy.)

Consuelo, that is a novel way of treating alcoholism. It takes a Village to stop an idiot from drinking.

OK AP, we all understand your need to leave and marry Gustavo, and give up the potentially most interesting relationship you’ll ever have for a mediocre life with a hard working but sterlingly honest and self righteous engineer.

Wow! Camelot! Terrific parody. Thanks! I'm glad somebody in Hell-Fuerte other than Skeletor now knows about Raimundo's property being up for sale. Something tells me that Vainie's little outburst in front of Abel will make Abe convince Raimundo not to sign and seal the deal with her after all.

Emarie, that was a great line about It Takes a Village.

Gustavo is too immature for a serious relationship. He doesn't understand trust. I would also tell him that anything he could have with Ana Paula would be ruined by Tia MentiRosa. Ana Paula herself hasn't seen through her aunt yet and it will take something extraordinary to change that.

Rogelio, on the other hand, desperately needs and wants a woman. He has relationship experience he hasn't used in seven years. He does know how to treat women; his problem is that his relationship with Ana Paula didn't begin within a healthy context.

But he does have Tia MentiRosa's number and he will ultimately have the full upper hand on her.

Another great recap, UA. Muchas gracias. There were so many lines I liked. One of my favorite remarks was "And why did you come here to see me? [Perhaps she is more Vainessa's sister than anyone knows.]"

I keep wondering whether this novela will defy tradition by having AP's fainting NOT be because she's pregnant. Actually, I hope so, but I'm not optimistic.

Emarie, I too loved your line about "it takes a Village."

UA - I'm not watching this one, but while scrolling down for the AdP recap, I noticed your font. Very easy to read!

I had to stop reading to tell you how correct you were about Ana being more Vainy's sister than anyone knows. Juanita beat me to it lol. Talk about ego.

I'll be watching the episode tonight but is it just me or is Cin just a little too tall for Gus?

Great recap and reference to Camelot. It seems to fit.

Not gonna miss Chio. I hope she goes so we don't have to listen to that whine. And, what woman in her right mind would present a boyfriend with a pair of baby booties?

I'm on the side that Ana Paula is embarazada. It looked like the light shone in Gustavo's eyes at the end of the chapter. He is hermoso, but Sin towers over him, not that that matters. The eyelashes win.

Thanks for a wonderful recap, UA. I really appreciated your translating the dialogue between AP and Rogelio. I wasn't sure I got it right.

Well I was right about Effer and Macario --although I thought he might go after Maripaz.I am wondering whether Ulises will offer him a job in the store so that he can come back to the town and be near Sinthia again.

Someone made a good point abut Gus. He--and his sister-- are so self-righteous and he doesn't listen to AP when she speaks. He knows everything and is not interested in even hearing her pov. Bad! On the other hand, Rogelio and she really communicate and did. When she's not in a snit, I have really enjoyed the way they talk to one another --adult, honest about feelings, with humor.

Like eveyrone else, I don't like Chio, who is aggressive enough to almost qualify as a stalker. I still think that Ernesto and Mercedes will wind up together; they really do love each other, even though she is again acting like a self-righteous prig in rejecting him because his daughter doesn't like her. If most people were like her, there would never be any second marriages in this world! I would like to see Esteban wind up with Dani. I really like Dani and hope she winds up with someone better than the Village idiot. (By the way, is anyone --including Rohell- ever going to figure out that it's Bruno who is supplying the booze to Miguel? Maybe Margarito will see and spill the beans.

I am thinking that Paula is embarazada. After the scene with Abel and Vainny, she took to her bed and said she wasn't feeling well, and I was wondering whether it was an excuse to get out of there or because she was pregnant. Now with this second episode, I think she's embarazada.

Not only do I mind that Sin is taller than Gustavo, but she looks much older, and I dont think there's any chemistry between them.

One question UA: Sinthia announced their "noviazgo." Doesn'tthat mean they're going together, rather than their engagement? Gus made it really clear to her that he wanted to give their relationship a try, but wasn't sure what it would lead to. She's acting like they're going to get married.

ITA with the others on how nice your recap reads, so fluid, Urban.
I figure AP must be pregnant. The story made a big deal to say AP is a virgin, and showed her and Gus in bed together. Now she faints. The TN math = pregnancy.

LOVED the recap, UA, and thank you for so much detail with the dialog! This is very much appreciated. Love your Camelot theme. Very appropriate.

Yes, Gus is sooooo sure of himself, and sooooo self-righteous. Rohell may be a douche, but he values what he's got with the Cupcake, and isn't as hasty to throw it away. He knows that women like her don't grow on trees (having witnessed Vainessa, he's acutely aware of this).

I'm glad it's not just me who has had it with Chio. The baby booty thing was just embarrassing. What possessed her to think of doing that? Too weird.

Ulissis is too trusting with Effer. He shouldn't be.

Great recap UA.

Lady Ana Paula is feeling the pressure of her own mistakes. Gustavo's presence at the hacienda should make for some interesting episodes.

Efraín wouldn't go for Marypaz, too easy a target. He needs someone forbidden to pass time after Cinthia. Macaria is like a nicotine patch.

Jarocha

I think they are using the Ullises, Macaria and Maripaz story to lighten up this TN a little, sort of like the Beauty Shop scenes in Dinero, but with no humor. I think it is a way for them to lighten the angst of things going on right now.

Dear Urban:

My compliments and complete agreement on your analysis of Gus' relationship readiness. With a basis of distrust, everything he sees or hears that doesn't fit with his rigid worldview will rock his world. He doesn't even have the maturity to get through an emotional experience without acting out in some major way.

Sigh. Telenovela characters are so much easier to figure out than real live humans. (Smile.)

EJ

Efrain rescued Maripaz from Rutilio (someone compared that scene to Little Red Riding Hood and the Big Bad Wolf) and I'm going to guess that he knows her since she was a child. That should be enough to nix the possibility of any romance between them.

Anyone have any thoughts on whether he was Sinthia's first? Macaria is a different kind of forbidden fruit. Either way, he's got it bad and that ain't good.

It shouldn't take too long for anyone in that house to figure out where Miguel gets the booze. Rogelio can easily check the supply in his study, Maria probably locks up the rest. And remember that Rogelio caught him with booze two weeks ago after a visit from Skelator.

Thank you UA for a great recap.

I really hope AP isn't pregnant. That could end her relationship with Rog.

Agree with everyone about Chio. Can't stand her. Esteban would look a lot better without the fashion beard. He's too gray for it. It just looks dirty on him.

Effer will want Marcaria and not Maripaz. He wants an experienced woman who won't pressure him for a serious relationship. Plus she has big boobs. And he likes living dangerously.

I'm so done with Miguel too. I just hope when he gets drunk, he'll spill the beans to Rogelio.

Great recap, UA. Rogelio removes his Crown, er, hat - perfect!

If Jorge S. were playing the Gus role, and Jose Ron the Rogelio role, would I be rooting for Rogelio?
Nope. No offense, but Jose Ron's kisses are like the legendary bass mouth kisses. (does anyone remember the novela and actor we all made of fun of for bass mouth kisses?).

Anyhow, can't stand those kisses, and can't imagine that AP doesn't secretly like Rogelio's kisses.

Please, novela gods, don't let AP be pregnant. I'm hoping that some doctor will find a miracle cure for Rogelio and he'll regain all function, and I mean all. ;)

Why doesn't Rogelio send Miguel away to a residential treatment program? Then we wouldn't have to see his sorry ass-ets.

Anya, I've said that, too. Miguel needs a residential treatment center where there is no temptation. Those places have to exist in Mexico.

I also hope that Ana Paula isn't pregnant. There were several hints in this episode and it occurred to me as I posted my previous comment that the doctor might not be telling anyone because of the possibility that Rogelio isn't able to make that happen.

If she is her best option would be to have an abortion, which would require a trip to D.F. That would probably be a first in a TN.

UA you are so right about the abortion. They haven't had a legal one. I know in LFDD they had one but it was a backdoor one and she died because of it.

No, I can't imagine an abortion. Not for Cupcake. She knows that the Virgen would not approve. There's no way.

Plus, I can't imagine most of the other interested parties in this novela wishing an abortion on the Cupcake. I don't see Dani or Miguel encouraging her to do it. Maria? NEVER. Gus? NEVER. Rogelio—he might wish violence on the novio, he might wash his hands of the Cupcake, but his douchebaggery isn't the kind that would want to pressure an unwanted abortion on any woman. As for Tia? What does everyone think of what her opinion might be? Or Bruno? All interesting points to consider, if it turns out that we do have a mini cupcake in the oven . . .

She would have to invent a story about having been raped and this story would come back to bite her on the tush. Remember Hugo talking about how dangerous that area is for a woman?

That would cause more trouble than she'd have to solve.

UrbanA--I had to miss this ep., so, thank you for the carefully worded and most excellent adventure romp through your recap.

As to a pregnancy in our future....Today's A Word A Day is so very appropriate.

enceinte---which apparently is used in English with 2 meanings; herein, I will only address the 1st.

Etymology of the word:
From French enceinte (pregnant); derived from Latin in- (not) + cincta (girded). Earliest documented use: 1708.

Can we say that Ana Paula was not girded with any protective amulets the night she lay with her champion Gustavito?

If she is pregnant, it puts Poor Pau in quite a dilemma, to the consternation of Aunti Rose and the Skelator, for surely Rog will go ballistic and maybe come close to throwing her out (but can't quite bring himself to do it).

Then there is the putative father and his novia. Her Imperial Vainess will be on her high horse and off to the zorra hunt, hoisting Rog on his own petard.

If Pau is Not not+girded, we continue with the same ole, same ole back and forth. Me thinks the producer wants to give us a little jolt with this delicious turn of events.

Just my musings,
Anita

UA, fantastic recap. Love it.

Elvira- I am with you. I just can't imagine Ana (or any protagonista) getting an abortion...legal or not.

Wow. Ana Brenda is a drippy crier. And who mentioned the ears? UA? She is gorgeous, but that hairstyle was not flattering.

I'm the one who mentioned her ears. Such a severely pulled-back style does nothing for her. She is better off leaving it loose (because most men prefer it that way anyway) or doing an upsweep with a little fullness. That shows earrings off better.

The question we face now is: If AP is pregnant, will Gustavo man up? We know from the avances that Rogelio will find out this week that he is the competition. This will have other negative consequences, as we already know.

NJ Sue, I apologise for overlooking your question earlier. I think that "noviazgo" is "engagement." Sinthia seems to be pushing this because she is desperate to get the inheritance that depends on her getting married.

I can't believe that's still permissible in Mexico.

U.A. Thanks for your reply that "noviazgo" can be an engagement. I guess I was thinking of another telenovela where the word for an official engagement (ring and all) was called "compromiso." But besides her inheritance,I think Sin is really taken with Gus.

Noviazgo is like going steady, compromiso is indeed engagement.

Jarocha

Sinthia hasn't even boinked him yet, so how can she be so sure?
