La Que No Podía Amar #68 Friday 3/30/12 This Magic Moment vs. That Mad Dash to the Devour Hour
Labels: no-podia
I do love the idea of them all gathering at the hacienda, as Cat said yesterday, inflicting lies, secrets and double-crosses on each other, while AP cries and Rogelio coos. It's a little bit like one of those British locked-room mysteries where the killer has to be among the visitors to the castle. I assume that between now and the end (another 45-50 episodes, I reckon) one of them leaves!
Despite it all, I really look forward to this novela every night, something I haven't experienced for a while.
I know Rogelio was only going to strike his desk with the riding crop, but clearly Gus is the one guy that's not going to tolerate Rogelio's whip nonsense. Loved this scene.
I am in the ohnononodon'tbepregnant group too. But, they don't spare us much in this story so far. Skelator has Miguel drinking again after the blink of an eyelash.
I keep wondering what little Margarito is hearing about pregnancy and all and what he might spill later. Everyone assumes he is just a body on the bed.
LOVED the scene where Guscake interrupts Rogelio's tantrum in mid strike by grabbing his wrist holding the fuete. And how they were glowering at each other! My favorite scene so far by far.
Bruno is just so rotten!
Audrey
Count me in as someone who loved the Gus-Rohell scene where Gus isn't taking the whip tantrum nonsense. I love my Angry Man in a Black Cowboy Hat, but really, what he needs (in regard to the whip) is someone like Gus fighting back and JUST NOT TAKING THAT CRAP ANYMORE. Rohell has relied on his "peons" not fighting back or reacting like any normal person would to that kind of petulant douchebaggery. He needs a reality check and the Gustavito could be the guy to give it.
Somebody needs to tell this whole cast of cowards that the better part of valor is discretion.
My gut was telling me the other day that the riding crop wasn't about Gustavo, but there will be more hell down the road.
So now Sinthia boinks Gustavo. Let's see what that does for her.
AP and pregnancy. I hope not too, I can't see where this program is going if she is pregnant. I hope Cynthia gets pregnant after her bedroom antics with Gustavo. That will make it even more impossible for AP and him to be together in the end.
So Bruno will get Miguel drunk and Miguel will tell him about AP being pregnant with Gus. Not good.
Bruno would really have it in for Gustavo if AP is pregnant and he will also ultimately take it out on her that she gave herself to him. Or any other man, for that matter.
Now for Gustavo to knock Sinthia up would be interesting. That would utterly freak her out... and anger Efrain.
If Rog had come to the room just a minute earlier, he would have heard the whole thing.
I think Rog does like it when people stand up to him. That's why he was instantly taken with AP for that reason and if he and Gus weren't rivals unbeknownst for him over the same woman, they could be friends and even allies. That anvil is tethering overhead of Rog finding out that the AP's ex has been living under his roof.
Speaking of which, Gus and Cinthia will do the deed per the previews and I wonder if there will be any repercussions from that.
Didn't take long for Miguel to fall off the wagon.
I LOLed when Rog thanked AP for helping him change clothes then suggested she help him go the bathroom. That mischievous grin on Rog's face when AP stared at him mortified was hilarious.

That was one of the scenes I saw without sound and melted over his laughing smiling face. When I got home, I watched this episode,(it was the only one I recorded) and got to hear what he was saying when he did it. I only wish AP would have called him on it and said OK. The look he would have given then would have been priceless.
Remember, it's telenovela land and you have to put your beanie on real low over your face. She can have sex a million times with someone, never get pregnant then do it once with someone else once and be expecting. If she does get pregnant by Gus, I would have to commend him on the strength of his sperm.
Rogelio is a guy who was extremely fit prior to his accident. His upper body strength would enable him to accomplish any bathroom needs well enough; didn't we also see him using weights in an early episode?
There is no reason to assume that he needs assistance in the bathroom or in dressing himself. He can stand, so if a shower stall is set up correctly (wide enough and with a chair inside) he is more than capable of taking care of himself in these situations. He can't drive at this point, so he needs Hugo to drive him and to push the wheelchair for longer periods of time than he can do for himself without getting tired.
Sex and pregnancy: I'll bet that Sinthia and Efrain would have cornered the market on condoms thus far, but she's riding bareback with Gustavo on impulse. They might get caught.
started to blush. Also, when she had her meltdown and he took her on his lap and called her 'chiquita," I was moved by his tenderness. I think all this good stuff is leading up to her being pregnant, which will be even more heart-breaking and dramatic. Ojala she's not, but she seems to be pretty sure now that she is. And with so many episodes to go, I guess there's no escaping all the angst that is about to come.
On the other hand, Rohell and Cupcake were certain not "together" when the Cupcake was deflowered, and Rohell pretty much guessed that something had changed in her when she returned (and I think he has a pretty good idea of what that "change" was). He may want to live in denial and her not being pregnant would help him keep in denial, but still, it's wasn't like she was cheating on him in the classic sense, since she pretty much had made it clear that he was dead to her at the time that she left. It wasn't as if she was sneaking around behind his back, while he thought things were all rainbows and flowers. So at least there's that.
It will be interesting to see how it all develops, and if she is, after all, pregnant.
I hope no one considers this a spoiler, but remember that Jorge Salinas got deathly ill during this novela and was absent for several episodes. They had to write around him. I'm very grateful that they managed to find a way to do that, rather than write him off the show or replace him with another actor. It just wouldn't be the same, would it?
Also, the complete novela is about 160 episodes in total.
I repeat that I also hope she isn't pregnant.
I'm also glad that Jorge Salinas wasn't replaced. While I could think of a couple of actors who could have done this role I don't think either could have topped him.
That was a heart-melting scene with AP cuddled on Rogelio's lap. Even though it seemed more like he was comforting a hurt child, it was tender. They almost shared a kiss when she sat up, but were interrupted by Jacinto. You could tell Rogelio was pissed.
njsue--I agree with you that Rogelio suggested taking a bath.
In his conversation with AP he said that when she first arrived, he didn't want her to see him in this state of disability and so he wanted Hugo to do everything for him, as always.
He said it was hard to be dependent on someone else to help him get dressed, go to the bathroom (ir al baño--i.e. use the toilet) and bathe (bañar or tomar un baño). Different activities.
I'm pretty sure that when AP assured him there was nothing shameful (yadda yadda that she had taken care of some lady in a wheelchair) about it and that she would gladly help him in whatever he needed and for him to just tell her. That's when he said, with a very straight face, that he wanted right now to go take a bath. He watched her reaction before laughing and saying that he was just teasing, that he saw her blush and liked that.
The closer they get, the sooner something will drive them apart. We've been through the attempt on Gustavo's life, so the only other major crisis that could drive them apart would be that AP is pregnant. Right now all signs point to yes.
If she were sure she wasn't, she would have taken the test right away. Ana Paula probably doesn't want to know. If the test turns out positive, even if she can't bring herself to tell Rogelio for awhile, it's going to change her relationship with him--something he's good at detecting. She can't keep using Margaro as an excuse, as difficult as that situation is.
Can't wait for Jardinera's recap. I want to relive it all again.

I didn't anticipate that AP's feelings for Rogelio would emerge just yet. I do hope that she stops crying -- too talented an actress for such a limited range of emotions.
The age difference between AP and Rogelio didn't strike me until Maria, I think, mentioned that he and Ulisses were childhood friends. Ulisses has a young adult daughter, only a couple of years younger than AP. Probably obvious to everyone, but JS looks pretty good for a fellow in his early 40s, even one who was approaching death's door in real life.
My estimate of the 45-50 episodes left is based on the approx. 160 in Mexico, which I think are half-hour ones. I've been following along (NOT AHEAD) on the resumenes site on the Forum, and it looks like our episodes are one for their two. We are at around 67 of the 160.
Ulisses could still be a few years older than Rogelio and might have married very young. Rogelio is somewhat past the usual age of first marriage (not that there's anything wrong with that) and I'm guessing that he was supposed to have been around 30 at the time of the accident.
Jorge Salinas sure does look good for someone who was almost at death's door when the series went into production. I think about that whenever he coughs, which I don't think was in the script; I think that JS used that as a way for Rogelio to cover up his most vulnerable emotions.
Wikepedia has Ana Brenda at 25 and Jorge at 43, entirely within the range for the characters age difference (and for me, too), even if his character is about 40.
Don't forget that 7 years ago Rogelio WAS going to get married--to Vainey, until his accident and she pulled the plug. Maybe 33 is a little old for a first marriage in Mexico's upper class, but he did admit to Paula about his education, travel, then learning the family business (and taking time to sow his wild oats).
He probably took himself out of the marriage market after the accident and when his father died, he took over the responsibility for this huge empresa and concentrated on that.
Someone posted many episodes back wondering whether the two Contreras were really sisters. Someone else posted and said no, which is true, because Ana Brenda Contreras was from the Domincan Republic. Unless Wikipedia is waaay wrong, Ana is from Tamaulipas, Mex. and Mar Contreras is from Sinaloa, Mex.

Have to admit that with Gus in the hacienda and so unsure of himself on the AP front and the river dike going up, things are really starting to percolate on this telenovela. I also cannot wait to see what happens next, but I do feel sad to think that Gus could take Sin to bed knowing that AP hasn't got a real marriage. He's got 6 months to go to say it isn't working out for him and Sin. I really want him to find Sin in bed with Effer for Sin to get the put-down and the come-down of a lifetime!!
Loved your name for Guscakes. El Gusto is Mio is too funny.
Liked what Maria did to Effer. She was smiling and then turned around, grabbed that wrist and her eyes were cold as ice. Glad she told him to stay away from Ms Conny.
I couldn't beleive the Tia stole the pregnancy test. She will probably be right there when the Cupcake uses it. I can't see the Cupcake aborting that baby, no way.
She'd rather take the consequences I think.
So Mikey took another drink, quelle surpris! That Skelator is an evil snake.
Loved the cuddle on the bed with Rohell and the Cupcake. It is really sweet. They should really do that more often. She actually looks really relaxed.
Now that Vainy knows about the Guscake coming to take pics of Lord Shady Deal doing nefarious things with the river, I wonder what they will set up for the Guscake. I am curious to see what they will do to stop him from taking the pics.
The best scene of the evening was Rohell and Maria yukking it up about the Tia having to clean toilets. I was laughing so hard. I wish they would really make the Tia do it. But you know if she had to, she'd be screaming bloody murder and fainting because of her "heart condition" lol.
That cough of Rogelio's during his laugh session with Maria worried me. I don't think it was scripted either, but they left it in.
Love the El Gusto Es Mio. Sin's like an octopus enveloping its next meal.
What an opportunist MentiRosa is, making Uli go for flour so she could snatch another pregnancy test. He was closed for business that night for his daughter's going-away party, for heaven's sakes. On the other hand, she couldn't trust Dani to get another one right away and she certainly couldn't ask Macaria for one.
What does Bruno get out of luring Miguel into continuing to drink? Why would he need Paula to stay with and in debted to Rogelio? If it's in order to get his lands back, I thought Team Evil was going to do that for him. If he wants to separate Paula from Rogelio AND El Gusto and lead her into his arms...the snake...how does keeping her with Rogelio work.

How did Maripaz go from being the prisoner of San Gabriel to a matriculated student in the university? When did she apply? When was she accepted? And how long does that take? Does she have a scholarship or will they use their jackpot winnings? I know, I know...Beanie-time!
I missed the sigificance of that pixie-dust moment too. Was there something about the bracelet on El Gusto's wrist that Rog might have recognized? Or did it mean nothing at all?
"...Sin needs a friendectomy..." LOL
Loved the friendectomy, so agree. I loved your train wreck metaphor.
We'll see what tomorrow brings on the story, I do wonder how many episodes they will handle the pregnancy test before AP actually does the test.
If AP is pregnant,I don't think Rog will be to upset because he really cares for Ap and is just kind hearted (as much as he tries not show it). The one that will blow a gasket is Sin! Another one to get a piece of her pie. She is really very childish.

I've been out of the loop with how this novela is going in the US but I remember this episode that you described so perectly.
I was actually pissed off when Gustavo slept with Cinthia. He doesn't love her and (while she is still horny Cinthia) she doesn't know all the facts about his feelings. Yes, she might know a little about how he was still hung up on his ex and all but she doesn't know Ana Paula is said ex. I wouldn't have felt as annoyed if he were having and affair with someone who is not involved in Ana Paula's life as Cinthia is. That just complicates things more and more

Bruno telling Dani that he would look after Miguel to keep him from drinking. So when he appears drunk, there will be a connection of Bruno and a drunk Miguel.
One thing I don't get is why would the "upper class" want to go to this party given by the "lower class"? Don't they have anything better to do than to slum it at Maripaz's going away party? They don't even like to eat at the same table as them, but they will attend their parties.
Is there going to be enough time for David to undo the dam by the next day so that Gus can't get pictures? If that happens, I hope Rog is smart enough to figure out who the snitch is.(His sister) At least there are witnesses to Gus telling Sin about the dam building.
Of course, Skelator also embraces and enjoys his own evil.
LXV, I don't think the bracelets meant anything. I think Rogelio was having a lightbulb moment about his own temper.

I think Vanessa showed her disgust to be there. Cinthia, I think, doesn't really mind spending time with the lower classes (case in point: Efraín) but she cares about "el que dirán", what other people would say about her if they saw her with them. Since Vanessa was there, she doesn't care about being seen at the party and she gets to have a good time.
Jarocha
Wow! So Ana Brenda is from my back yard? Well, front yard maybe since my house faces south.
I think Bruno just gets Miguel drunk because Bruno's an ass. And he likes to see people weak and fail and he enjoys wielding power over someone. I think he also tries to get info out of Miguel, but so far Mickey doesn't spill the beans even when drunk.
I was pretty shocked that Gus "succumbed" to Cinthia's "comforting". It seems that AP is really the main reason Gus is still hanging around the hacienda. So while he "waits" he figures bedding Rogelio's sister is a good idea? What an idiot!
Audrey
I wish Cupcake would deck Mentirosa, like just once completely lose it - without tears.
Vanessa was disgusted at being at the party with the servientes.
Del Fuerte, i.e., Rogelio, owns most of the town, and specifically Ulises' business and cantina, so there is another connection.
Ulises sent everybody at Del Fuerte invitations. He was upset to see Miguel there, but welcomed Cin and her gang.
Maybe there just wasn't anything else going on that night and this provided a little local color and some diversion for the upper crust Del Fuerte people.

Ana Brenda is from Río Bravo in the Reynosa-McAllen metropolitan area.

Tia Rosie's "robbery" of Uli's store had a definite Keystone Cops flavor. I guess they give her comic moments so we forget how much we'd like to kill her.
Rohell's protective comforting of AP was very tender. It made me think of Rhett holding Scarlett when she had a nightmare on their honeymoon trip. If AP is pregnant (loved "gravedad of the gravidez"!), Rohell would be angry, but he might still be willing to shelter and protect AP.
I can't believe the hacienda would be any worse than a pregnancy spent in Tuxtla with Tia's constant yammering and bitching. Maybe she'll go to Miguel's hideout for the duration?? The twists and turns are keeping this TN fresh.
La Paloma
That he was able to do this novela is pretty amazing and speaks to his inner strength (and machismo, I suspect).
==========
Well, we've got another 100 or so --give or take-- episodios to go. Anything can happen. I just don't see Gus sticking it out with Sin, particularly once he either 1) finds out about Effer and him alternating bunktime with Sinthia and/or 2) he learns AP is preggers with his child 3) he finds out Sin's been disloyal to her own flesh and blood for dirty dinero's sake
When AP finds out Gus slept with Sin, I guess he'll be knocked off her pedestal. Kind of takes the wind out of your sails to fight to be with the love of your life when he sleeps with your sister-in-law under your roof.
Gus likes innocent types I think and Sin is anything but, so the interaction once all the sh!t hits the fan with her and him will be ringside action. I cannot wait!
In some of his close-ups tonight Jose Ron reminded me of Colin Farrel.
I think the thing Gustavo most appreciates is honesty. Sinthia is not long on that quality. If he's the one to catch her with Efrain (and he probably will be) he will fly -- not run -- so fast her head will spin.
