Una Familia Con Suerte #187-188 Fri 3/30/12 Pina is stressed, Tears, A Fight, and A Goodbye

Recap by: Madelaine

The Refried:
  • Enzzo tells Pina off.
  • Pancho and Dona Fer are going to look for Doc Oc with the help of an investigator.
  • Chela is a little jealous that Rebe is helping Temo with his schoolwork.
  • Vins calls Candy and she agrees to meet him as he sprays himself with cologne and goes to meet her.
  • Lupe and Rebe look at wedding dresses.

The New:
Candy and Vins meet in a restaurant. He tries to smooch her and she tells him not to touch her. He wants to know if she still loves him, but she tells him, her love for him is dead, he's a jerk and opportunist that chases anything in a skirt. He doesn't know what love is. She says if he truly loved her he would never have reconciled with Pina. Vins says he won't listen to her insults, just like he won't listen to Pancho's. Candy tells Vins that Pancho is a way better person than Vins any day, and that she hates him and to go away and never speak to her again. Vins leaves, Candy is in tears, she calls Arnold to come meet her in the restaurant. Arnold meets Candy at the restaurant and she tells him everything that went on. She doesn't like any men right now, but Arnold tells her not all men are like Vins or Napoleon.

Pancho and Dona Fer find Doc Oc with the help of an investigator. Doc Oc is in a cabin with a nice fire, staring at his wedding ring when Dona Fer and Pancho come in. He is mad they came to find him. He tells him he wanted to be alone, like in the letter he left Dona Fer. She tells Doc Oc she takes her wedding vows seriously, especially the sickness or in health part. She tells Doc Oc she loves him very much. Pancho asks him if he has any children? For a minute there Doc Oc zones out and doesn't know who they are. Then he comes to himself and says he has no children. Pancho says, well hey why don't you adopt me? Then we can be a family and I can have a Mom and Pop.

Orion comes by the guardia house and meets Tomas and asks for Elena. Tomas tells Orion all about himself and Elena comes down and Orion asks her to go for coffee with him. They go but have tacos with beans. Orion is a vegan and doesn't eat meat. Elena tells him she doesn't know if she could never again eat meat. They have a good time. She kisses him at the end of the date.

Pina tells Mely that she has to live with her grandparents. Pina tells Mely Amors that she can't take care of her properly right now due to all the work. Mely is very upset and doesn't want to leave her Tia Amors. She goes to Freddy and tells him, and they hug and cry.

Karina corners Freddy at school and tells him, hey I love you and wanted you to know. Freddy doesn't say a thing. Just stares at her like she is crazy.

Chela and Enzzo talk and eat spicy fries. They kiss and Enzzo has to take a drink cause the fries are too spicy for him and he gets Chela to drink something too. Enzzo takes Chela home and she goes upstairs and there is a bag of trash in the hallway. She knocks on the neighbor's door and tells her she needs to clean it up cause of the rodent problem in the building. They shout at each other and then start pulling each other's hair. There is lots of pushing and shoving and the neighbor ends up on the floor. Meantime, Frida is coming up the stairs, and Pepe opens his door and hears the ruckus. Frida gets there first and kicks the neighbor's butt. She tells the neighbor that Chela is pregnant and what was the neighbor thinking to fight with her. The neighbor slams the door, and Chela starts getting pains. Frida and Pepe take Chela to the hospital. The whole family goes to the hospital.

Candy gets a call from a someone that tells her she has inherited a lot of money from Napoleon. She is now worth millions.

Monica calls Pepe, and he tells her he is at the hospital and what happened to Chela, just as Frida comes with some coffee for Pepe. Monica asks who it is, and tells her it's Frida a friend of his. Monica wants to know why he sounds so nervous. He blows that off and tells her he loves her. Monica tells him to give her best to Chela.

The doctor tells the family that Chela is ok, but due to the stress of the fight, Chela may lose the baby. Everyone is very upset. Enzzo goes to Chela's room with flowers, and she cries and tells Enzzo she is sorry for fighting and she doesn't want to lose the baby. Enzzo holds Chela and tells her she is very strong and to be calm for the baby. He kisses her belly and tells Chela he loves her very much.

Pina is very stressed at work. Enzzo drops his financial report by her office, before he goes to the hospital and Pina is so overwhelmed by all the work, she ropes Vins and Arnold Flowerz to help her out. Rebe calls her from the hospital to find out how things are going, and Pina whines about all the work and that Vins and Arnold are having to help her. After Pina hangs up, she claims she can't breathe, she's had enough.

Elena and Orion go out to dinner and have a great time. Orion tells her he likes her very much.

Pina goes home and has a massage with accompanying harp music. Ado is scared to knock on the door cause she thinks Vins and Pina are rockin the house again, but Pina tells "Interrupcion" to come in. Ado tells Pina that Mely Amors grandparents are there to pick her up. Pina asks where Mely is and Ado tells her at Pancho's.

Mely and Temo say goodbye to each other. Lots of tears, Temo gives her a bracelet and they tell each other they will wait for each other.

Pina, Vins, Freddy, Ado and Abeja are all gathered together to say goodbye to Mely Amors. They all tell Mely they will miss her very much. All of them are crying. Pina holds Mely Amors and tells her this is only temporary, because of all her work, but she wants to have her Mely Amors come back to live with her and she loves her so much. Pina gives her Mely Amors the blessing and they all hug and kiss each other in one big group hug. Mely leaves and Pina is inconsolable. She cries a lot and says she already misses her Mely Amors.

(I only posted the recap... the recap is by Madelaine.)

Despite posting, I haven't actually read it yet. In fact, I haven't even watched the episode yet. I only just finished reading Julia's a little while ago... thanks, Julia. And thanks Madelaine!

Madelaine, Thanks for getting this recap up so quickly. You did a great job! The title is perfect too. A subtitle could be tears and more tears! What a bunch of scary scenes with Chela but I loved her mama bear fierceness with the naca neighbor. I bet Enzo will insist that she move in with him now.

Pancho was sweet with Doc Oc and Mama Fer while trouble brewed around him, he really takes care of his Mama.

Also what a fabulous acting job little Meli did. Maybe too many sad scenes for this sweet muppet but she really handles her scenes like a pro.

I'm off to a photographers' convention so Ezra or some kind team member will post a header of a recap. See you all in a week.

Thanks for posting this for me Julie and thanks Cheryl have a great time at the convention. This episode was so sad. I had a hard time coming up with a title. I cried like a baby thru most of this, especially with Chela and Mely Amors leaving. It was too sad.
I tried to condense this epi. I didn't post the part with Vins, Pancho and the director of the General de Justica because I only got that Vins wants to throw Pancho in jail for what happened, but the director says he can't and he has to get in between the two of them to stop the fighting, until Pancho gets the phone call to go to the hospital. This director is head of everything it seems. He threw both Pancho and Vins in jail before, interrogated Tomas after the murder of Christian, and the jailing and death of Napo. This guy sure has his hands full.

Oh and sorry for any misspellings. I noticed my title is misspelled.

Good job Madelaine and so nice and early on a Saturday.

I felt it was out of character for Chela to get into a physical fight. Ana yes, Chela, Lupita no. Now she has no excuses to move out. Enzo will see to that.

Que tengan un buen fin de semana todos!

Madelaine, I was kind of grateful that this was such a tear-jerky epi. It's so good for my eyes which are kind of dry between all the meds drops I have to put in for a month! ; ))

The scene with Pancho and Vins using the General as a punching bag to do chest thrusts at was funny but really nothing was said of importance. And he does have too many jobs, very funny observation.

Conejita, it was out of character for Chela to get fistycuffs with anyone but it made me laugh to see the fierce look on her face as she stood over the naca on the floor.
So I am off to walk Willa then take her for her sleep over with her bff Cisco. Adios all.

CherylNewMex - I want to see Chela stand up for herself - its over due as she just gives and gives to the Lopez family. leaving nothing for herself. Maybe the fight will be a turning point for her, it definitely was a surprise. Moving out on her own was a good start.

Happy walking -

Thanks for the recap Madeline, you filled in several blanks do to CC3 default to Spanish when they get behind on the translation.....very frustrating for someone like me with little knowledge of spanish spoken at regular speed.

JudyB, tonight is all yours...I think you are the only one left on this blog with a dog in the hunt. Best of luck to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the final four.
I will miss the game tonight, my favorite comedian is in town (Steve Harvey) and the show starts when the game start.

But if the buckeyes play well, I will see them in the championship game Monday night.

Guera, let's pull for the buckeyes tonight, and show luv for JudyB

Thanks so much Madelaine.

There were lots of tears last night, and little Meli broke my heart. This should make Pina think though. Does she want to be president for herself, or for Vince and his stupid vengeance against Pancho? If it's for Vince, was it worth losing Meli over? Vince only thinks of himself, I am so glad Candy told him off like she did. Can't believe he tried to turn it around on her, like he has sacrificed so much for her. Please! And what a weasely thing to do telling Pina it was HIM who told Candy to stay away from him. Ha! Pina has got to be delusional if she's buying that.

Chela has been spoiling for a fight for a while now. She's never back down from confrontation-- remember it was her in your face attitude that first won Enzzo over. But since she got pregnant she's been itchy to break someone's face-- like Pina and Kari at the doctor's office the other night. I think it's the pregnancy hormones. She did go too far in that argument and she should have been thinking about the baby. But she does not deserved to lose the baby. I don't think the writers will let that happen, especially since we've already had one baby loss in this tn. I'm sure Enzzo is going to make her move in with him. They were very cute with their spicy fries and her popsicle.

I think Frida earned Pepe's and Chela's respect with the way she went after that neighbor and defended Chela. I like Frida. I just don't want her to become Pepe's other woman, or for her to be the cause of heartbreak for Moni.

Elena is falling for Orion. LOL! The guy is the total opposite of everything she's said she's always wanted. He's very sweet though. She doesn't deserve him.

There was a nice scene with Rebe putting Temo to bed when she told him he's teaching her how to be a mom. It was quite sweet.

And I also like the scene where Pancho adopts Doc Oc and tells him how much he loves him like a father. It's not pity Doc, it's love.

Thank you Madelaine for the superb recap! I'm glad you were able to see through you tears and write it up for us.

As much as Pancho annoys me I thought it was very sweet of him to ask Doc Oc to adopt him.

Vivi-so agree with your comments.
I like Frida too, but don't want her to end up with Pepe.

I like how Doc Oc got animated when he found out about Chela. He has been depressed the last couple of episodes and now he wanted to know about Chela. Also liked the fact of Pancho wanting Doc Oc to adopt him. It is out of love and not pity.

Thanks Madelaine. Good succinct recap.

Yes Anon #1 I wished JudyB luck over on the Abismo sie earlier today.

JudyB it's almost game time. I'm watching Kentucky & Louisville right now. Louisville is hanging in there -- even just tied it up for a minute. They're the only Big East team left & I'm rooting for them tonight. But we're all behind your Buckeyes from here on in..

Please, please let the baby be all right. I just wish Chela could take her beautiful & bright painted nursery with her to her new place. But Enzo has reason to want her out of that place after the problems Moni had there and now this. I've no problem with him encouraging her to live in a nicer place but I do have problems with the depiction of all the residents in this modest apartment complex. Just because they are poor doesn't mean that they will steal tires & smash windshields & dump garbage i the hall & punch out the neighbors.

Orion is just what Elena has been needing to give her a new way of looking at the world. It's pretty funny to see her attracted to this guy who is so much the opposite of her usual prey.

Rebe's handling of Pina is clever & fun to watch. Pina has been insufferable lately but this may just help her get her priorities straight. She may actually appreciate Pancho's abilities after she sees what a presidenta has to do -- and she may find out that Meli is more important than power games.

Three cheers to Candy for giving it to Vince. Do you think he may actually come to realize that she is right about his shallow self-centered self?

Güera

Madelaine, I love the way you organized this recap and the writing is wonderfully succinct and clear, yet captures everything perfectly.

I'm on Team Frieda more than ever now, after seeing her come to Chela's defense like that! She better not have any heartbreak. Where's this headed?

As for the Meli-Pina farewell, I couldn't believe it when I suddenly felt tears streaming down my face, over and over. Just thinking about it again makes me almost tear-up. I saved the episode so I can watch it one more time. But I have to brace myself. That was some serious acting!

Guera-I can't see Vins seeing he is self-centered. He flits from woman to woman. I don't think he really knows what love is. It seems as if he has never felt it in his life. Even though I am surprised Pina never found out about the other amors of his life before Candy. I know he had a fling with Rebe, but I don't know if Pina ever found out.

Dona Felipa-thank you for the compliment. I am with you about the Mely Amors goodbye, I had to have a box of tissues by my side. It was hard to watch. I really hope Mely comes back before this TN ends. She really is a part of Pina's family.

Can someone tell me what was on those fries? I am such a foodie. I love different international food and have never seen these. It wasn't hot sauce was it? It looked like something like a rub that was then fried. It looked delicious.

Madelaine,

Thank you for recapping this very sad episode. I think Mely Amors was having a great time, I am sorry to see her go.

Vins is starting to get funny. That thing he does with napkins and his body language are a hoot.

The things that Chela was eating looked like jimica with hot sauce to me. I have had it many times in Mexico. Of course, it could have been fries, it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong. They also serve chilled Spanish olives with hot sauce, one of my favorites.

Rosemary Primera

Jicama makes sense, given the way she was shoving those down. Greasy fries would have been harder to gobble so quickly. What an interesting snack. Thanks Rosemary.

Vivi, the jicama snack also has a little lime juice and salt and then hot sauce of course. In Mexico they use Valentina.

Rosemary Primera

Madelaine, thanks for the recap. I missed both episodes so I appreciate all the detail. Sorry you got such a tearjerker.

It's ironic that after all Chela's said in the past about the good ole days of the vecindad that she gets into a fight there that jeapardizes her pregnancy. But surely she won't lose the baby and that this is the way to get her to move in with Enzo.

When Pina hired the detective to catch Vince with Candy, he also gave her a list of all Vince's past affairs. In the recesses of her brain, Pina's got to know Vince is lying about Candy chasing him instead of the other way around.

Oh, I'd like to try the jicama. I have never had it. I will have to look for a recipe. It looked so yummy. I love spicy food.

Niece in MD- thank you about the list the investigator gave to Pina. I had forgotten about that. I really think Pina is blinded by love. Vins, to her, is her first love and she really is blinded by all the stuff he has pulled on her. She really does love him, but I am really hoping she sees him for the womanizer he is.

Thanks for the nice recap. I don't think Orion is a vegan but rather an ovo-lacto-vegetarian. When he described himself that way no one seemed to know what he meant and then Elena says that he doesn't eat any meat. Vegans don't eat any animal products at all while ovo-lacto-vegetarians eat eggs and dairy products.

Thanks Pepe I didn't know that. I heard him talking about eating lots of veggies, but I didn't know he also ate dairy.

Thank you, Madelaine! I love your recaps and commentary.

Niecie, the public housing where Chela and Pepe now live and where the fight took place isn't the same casa popular where the family originally lived and which Chela was so fond of. That place was smaller and privately owned and had more of a family atmosphere, and it was destroyed in the earthquake (the earthquake that didn't even knock the tchotchkes off the shelves most other places...).

Orion is indeed an ovolactovegetarian. They went over that several times since Elena had such a hard time with the word and the concept.

I just love Meli, even if she is in love with insufferable Temo. I hope she comes back. I did think Pina should have made more of a point that she was letting Meli go because her grandparents are also family and THEY wanted her to stay with them, and Pina just agreed to it because she thought they could give her more attention. The way she said "I'm too busy with work" it sort of came off like she was sending Meli away because she couldn't be bothered to make her a priority, although her sobbing did counter that.

I also don't like that the poor people in the public housing are being portrayed as such nasty monsters. Can't they meet a few nice neighbors, too. Isn't there some management that could take up the parking and trash issues so residents don't have to confront each other?

I couldn't believe Chela turned Enzo down when he offered an encore of the striptease! What's wrong with her?

At first when Doc Oc seemed not to remember Fernanda and Pancho I thought we were having the fastest Alzheimer's decline ever as a storyline. Glad he snapped out of it.

I took the liberty of fixing the typo in the title.

I got a kick out of the scene where Chela was snacking - I've heard of eating for two, but she looked like she was eating for six. LOL! I appreciate a hearty appetite.

I like Orión. I don't understand why he likes Elena so much, but maybe he can keep her out of trouble. :-)

And Karina... normally I'm opposed to amnesia storylines, but I'd make an exception in her case. I think this character needs a mental reboot, and a coconut to the head might be just the thing.

Julie, I'm with you -- coconuts on the head for Karina. She used to be so nice & now she is just annoying, But it was refreshing when she spoke directly to Freddy, let him know she loves him & sort of apologized for the things Pina talked her into.

JudyB if you're out there. I'm sorry about that game (both games actually.) That's a particularly hard way to lose -- lead the whole game & have it stolen away at the end.

Güera

Amen Guera, I didn't see the game, execpt for the very end.......it's got to hurt a little, to know it came down to the last play......but hold your head up JudyB, next year the final four will consist of Syracuse, Ohio State, VCU and Baylor.

How sweet will that be.......

I have some vocabulary today:

coyón/coyona - fraidy cat

colgar los tenis - to die

al calce - at the bottom (where to sign)

desbordante - overwhelming, full to the brim

meter la pata - to blunder, goof up

lero lero - bwahahahaha, neener neener

excomulgar - to excommunicate, oust

¿A quién le dan pan que llora? - don't look a gift horse in the mouth; who whines about free stuff?

irse de pinta - to play hooky

baba - drool

hacinados - crowded

argucia - subtlety

hacer un oso - to act ridiculous

sucursal - branch, subsidiary

monserga - gibberish, nonsense

Thanks so much Julia for the vocab and thank you Julie for fixing the title. I agree with you Julie about Chela scarfing those fries. You could tell they were very spicy by the way she kept taking those breaths while she was eating them lol.

Julia, I agree with you and Guera about the portrayal of the people in that apt building that Pepe and Chela live in. I am sure there are some nice neighbors and they really should show them too and not just the bad ones. The writers need to balance that out.

Oh, and Julie and Guera I agree with you about the coconut on the head for Karina. Loved how she told Freddy she told Moni she loved Freddy and that Moni told her she was obsessed and she totally denies it and says oh Freddy I just lurrrvve you. No wonder Freddy is speechless. I really hope Freddy is never alone with Kari in a private place, I am afraid of what will happen, especially if Ana is on tour for awhile.

So that's what "lero, lero" is? Heh. Thanks. :o)

I'm not too worried about Fred being alone with Kari. I think he'll be able to defend himself. I wish I could feel so confident about Pepe and Frida.

But speaking of confidence, WOW Candy reading Vice the riot act at the restaurant. (And double-wow Vice turning the story around backwards to Pina afterwards. He could use a couple of coconuts too.)

Thank all of you so much for all your lovely comments. Before I forget could someone put up a header or short synopsis of Monday night's episode. Cheryl is away at a convention and Melinama is on vacation so if someone could do that it would be great. I don't have access to blogger or I would do it myself. Thanks.

Hi, I am just checking in with thanks Madelaine for looking for a person to put in a header. I wrote to Melinama and she said Ezra will put one up. Anyone interested in writing a recap might check with him, I bet he would love to be helped with that task. Back to the conference very early tomorrow but I discovered casinos have pretty good free internet connections but aren't conscientious about carrying Spanish TV stations. I'll be out of range until Wednesday night.

Madelaine:
Thank you very mch fro recapping this epi. You did a great job.

I love Sergio SEndel in this comic turn—he and Daniela Castro make the show for me—but the character of Vince; YUK. He isn't going to change. I cannot imagine a coconut to the head is enough to knock sense into his pea brain. He is incorrigible and Pina needs to dump him.

EJ

If no one else volunteers, I can do a quickie recap tonight and post it on my own.

Anybody have an e-mail address for Ezra?

Elna June, I agree about Vice. I think he's intrinsically shady and doesn't even know how to be honest and upright. He takes the low road even when it isn't in his interests...he was doing all sorts of corrupt business stuff even though he has a good position and tons of money coming through legitimate channels. He's had mistresses forever even though he had a loving wife at home. He tried to manipulate Freddy into marrying Moni because...why? He insists on fighting with Pancho even though he'd have more success getting what he wants if he were cooperative. I think he's the perpetual bad kid in the back of the classroom who will always do what he isn't supposed to do, just because it isn't what he's supposed to do.

Julia you are so right about Vins.
All his scams and schemes. I think he is very power hungry too, cause he really doesn't lack for money. With him I think it is really a power trip. I am waiting for the day when things start going wrong for him. I hope the writers do that to Vins. I would serve him right for all the bad things he has already done.

Exactly. I think he gets off on getting away with bad behavior and feeling like he's above consequences.

Pina is bad, too, but I think most of her meanness has roots in pain and suffering.

This comment has been removed by the author.

When this TN started I was soooo sure that Vice and Pina would somehow quickly go bankrupt and have to liquidate all their stuff. That would provide some symmetry with Pancho's situation. I guess it could still happen yet, but it's not looking good. Perhaps their brief stint without Adoracion was as close as they'll ever get to discomfort and inconvenience.
