La Que No Podía Amar #62 Thursday 3/22/12 The Woman Who Couldn't Stop Whining

Unfortunately, there are several tonight.

Ulises is so happy to see Macaria back…cause he doesn't know she slept with his "amigo" Efrain.  Maripaz doesn't seem too concerned when she finds out that no, Ulises, didn't ask her to come back.

Ana Paula goes to whine to Rogelio about wanting to tell off Cinthia.  "Please don't leave me alone out on the terrace without you!"  Rog says he won't do it again, and asks her to sit down.  He wants to talk about how she's getting along with Gustavo, since he's going to be a part of the family soon.  He wants to show her something, but she whines about not wanting any more presents.  Shut.  Up.  If you don't want them, I'll take them!  It's Miguel's pardon from David.  She asks how Rog got him to sign it, but Rog won't tell.  "I want you to know I'd do anything to make you smile."

Dany goes running to show Rosaura the pardon.  She's the one who made copies for Rogelio to give one to Ana Paula.  Rosaura whines about how AP is making her life so complicated, not falling for her sugar daddy.  Dany goes off to show the papers to Miguel while Rosaura ponders how she can keep Bruno from doing stuff behind her back.  Yeah, good luck with that one.

AP acknowledges that Rogelio does know what makes her happy.  He says it can be like that for the rest of their life.  She wants to go show the papers to Miguel, but he tells her that he already sent Dany to do it.  Maria interrupts their moment to tell him that the feed supplier is there.  AP leaves and Rogelio whines to Maria about how he just can't get AP to love him.  Don't worry Rog…you've got lots of love for the Rogelianas.  If you can't be with the one you love, honey….

Dany goes to Miguel's room and sees him putting the comb he made for Consuelo in Consuelo's hair.  Which is, admittedly, a fairly intimate thing to be doing.  She ends up going back out into the hallway to cry over him for the umpteenth time.  Hugo sees her and she whines to him about how much it hurts, while he tells her she needs a guy who knows how to appreciate her.  Yes, damnit, Dany, listen to the man!  Hugo kisses her and Dany's brilliant response is to ask "What are you doing?"  To which I replied, verbally, and a high volume, "What the hell do you think he's doing?!"  It's ok.  I'm fine now.  Moving on.  Hugo says he just couldn't help himself.  She's all hot and sad and Miguel won't give her the time of day.  He knows he's just a peon and Miguel's the boss' brother, but at least he doesn't drink (sad when that's a selling point) and he's a hard worker.  Sounds good to me.  I say go for it!

Mercedes arrives at the hacienda.  Oh.  Goody.  And Ana Paula is the first person to run into her.  Mercedes thinks AP is there looking for Gustavo.  She tells her to go away and leave Gustavo alone.  Maria overhears, applies the quadratic equation, and finds out that where AP, Cinthia, and Mercedes are A, B, and C…Gustavo is X.

Consuelo, now with her hair down, asks Miguel which side the comb looks better on, but just like a guy he says she looks good either way.  And he won't charge her for the comb, either.

Out in the hallway, Hugo continues plighting his troth.  He sees Dany like a queen…he's interrupted mid-troth (or is it mid-plight?) by Consuelo carrying out the tray.  She shows off her new 'do to Dany, who snidely tells her she sees that Miguel finished her comb.  "Enjoy it."  Whoa, now!  You don't have to be that way about it!

Mercedes continues her screeching.  Jacinto comes up to ask "Mrs. Montero" if she needs anything.  Maria keeps listening in as AP tells Jacinto she's fine, puts up with more verbal lashings from Mercedes, and explains that it's Gustavo who's going to end up getting hurt if Mercedes decides to run her mouth.

Consuelo is shocked at Dany's attitude.  "I just wanted to show you what Miguel made.  He did a good job, right?  I told him he should make more of them to sell.  Talk him into it, won't you?"  Hugo, meanwhile, has run off.  Dany has to stop and contemplate their illicit liplock.  Come on, girl, it was hot, you know it!

AP tells Mercedes she can't explain it now, but she begs Mercedes not to say anything.  Mercedes' continued ranting can be summed up as, "You're a whore, you never loved my brother, you're a whore, the sooner everyone finds out you're a whore, the better…and oh, yeah, you're a whore!"  AP just tells her not to say anything until she's had a chance to talk to her brother.  She reminds her that Gustavo is with Cinthia now, so what's the point of blabbing?  Maria interrupts them to greet Mercedes and AP takes the opportunity to slip away.  Cinthia then comes running in, leaving Maria to go after AP.

AP tries to talk dinner plans with Maria, but she wants to talk about Gustavo.  Maria tells her she heard the whole conversation.  AP swears she's only been trying to avoid problems.  "You're worried about Gustavo and not Rogelio!  How do you think he's going to feel when he finds out?  Are you still in love with Gustavo?"  AP says she's not sure about anything anymore.

Cinthia is burbling about how great she feels.  Mercedes asks where Gustavo is.  "Um, he went down the river to measure something?  I don't know."  Mercedes claims to be tired from the trip and Cinthia takes her to her room.

Maria really needs to know Qué The Hell is going on!  AP gives her the CliffsNotes version.  Mr. 5ft pauses in the act of serving me some salt and lime flavor tortilla chips to remark, "Moan and whine, moan and whine," which I'm afraid, when all is said and done, is going to be all that happens this episode.  She gets to the important stuff…"Did you do the nasty with him?"  AP admits she did.  What she actually says is, "ya fui su mujer," "I was his woman."  How very 19th century of you, AP.

Oh, look, the opening credits.  20 minutes in.  Pfft!

Ulises wants to spoil Macaria.  Maripaz whines that she wants some spoiling too.  Really, though, all she wants is to go to school.  Ulises demands she review the accounting first.  Efrain walks into the fonda and takes a table. He insists on trying to make a date with Macaria, but she doesn't want to see him again.  "Hey, we had a good time, didn't we?"  She makes that "I don't want to say yes, but I don't want to lie, either face."  Come on, seriously?  If she woke up in bed with him and didn't remember why he was there, he couldn't have been that good.

AP tells Maria that Federico supported her relationship with Gustavo.  So freaking what?  AP cries and whines that she's so confused, she has so many doubts, she realizes Rogelio loves her.  "I don't want to lie to him, but I can't tell him I love Gustavo!"  Maria reads her the riot act for sleeping with Gustavo while she's married to Rogelio.  "And then there's the fainting thing…are you pregnant?"  Dun, dun, dun!

Rosaura tells Miguel about the pardon.  He hugs her and says he doesn't have to hide from the cops anymore.  Well, there are still other charges.  Rosaura offers him some advice, "I think you should break it off with Dany, but for realz this time."  Miguel is apparently no better at breaking up with someone than he is at dating.  Rosaura wants him to keep Dany out of his room.  She's distracted in her advice-giving by the arrival of Vanessa, in peep toe heels and a silver tank dress.  Very appropriate for a hacienda.  Rosaura tries to physically block her from entering the building, much to Vanessa's amusement.  Rosaura tries to thrown her out, but Cintha comes up with …dun, dun, dun…Mercedes.

Maria hopes AP isn't pregnant.  A baby would be a tragedy!  AP says she doesn't know how, but she'll make sure Rogelio doesn't ever find out.  "Are you sure you can handle seeing Cinthia with that guy?"  AP says she can't ruin everyone's lives.  Maria says she's such a good girl, it's unfair for her to be going through this.  AP doesn't want to hurt Rogelio, but she can't love him either.  She's living a nightmare!  Maria hopes nothing terrible happens.  Greeeeeat.  I'm pretty sure something terrible's going to happen.

Cinthia insists that Vanessa is allowed in the hacienda whenever she wants.  She notices Rosaura staring at Mercedes, so she introduces them, saying Rosaura's Paula's moocher aunt.  Vanessa takes the liberty of introducing Miguel, the delinquent brother.  The mean girls go off to braid each other's hair while posting nasty shit about Ana Paula on Facebook.  Rosaura hisses to Miguel that they have to warn Ana Paula that Mercedes is there.

Ana Paula sobs to herself.  Margarito comes up and joins the pity party.  He thinks they're not going to keep looking for his parents, and what about Gustavo, etc., etc., etc.  I think AP's been a bad influence on this kid.  Now Rosaura comes running up to announce that Mercedes is at the hacienda.  "Oh, that's so five minutes ago!"  Rosaura is pissed that no one's keeping her informed!  AP apologizes, saying she's having a rather crappy day herself.  She walks off while Rosaura stews.

Cinthia announces Vanessa's arrival to Rogelio.  He says he'll see her in a minute.  Cinthia leaves and Rogelio calls Hugo.  "Tell my wife to come here and to come in through the main door."

Consuelo tells Miguel to tell her a joke so he'll quit thinking about drinking.  Efrain comes up and tries to flirt with her.  Miguel asks if he's coming back to work there.  "Of course.  As soon as the boss realizes he can't run the place without me."  Efrain tries to get Consuelo to go with him, but she says no, she's staying with Miguel.

Vanessa's been busy filling Mercedes' head with even more crap about Ana Paula.

Rogelio tries calling Abel, but has to leave a message.  AP comes in and Rogelio notices she's been crying.  He tells her that Vanessa is there, and he wants to make sure that he gives Ana Paula her place, so he'd like her to be there for the meeting as well.

Rosaura, that godawful tacky BITCH, hauls Margarito around by the ear and verbally pounds it into his head that he's nobody, just an orphan, and when Ana Paula leaves she's not taking Margarito with her and he's going to be alone…got it!  Bitch made the kid cry.  I can't even call that tacky…it's just plain cruel.

Vanessa is unpleasantly surprised when Ana Paula comes into Rog's office.

Margarito, Rosaura's words echoing in his ears, climbs the trellis, but loses his grip at the top and falls from at least 1 story…with his back half on and half off the concrete patio below.

Efrain, having failed with Consuelo, tries to get under Cinthia's skin. He tries to blackmail her into convincing Rogelio to give him his job back.

Margarito cries for Paula to come help him.

Cinthia says if he rats her out to Rogelio, Rogelio will kill him!  Efrain tries to say he came back for her, but Cinthia won't hear it.  She says it was fun while it lasted, but now it's over.  Efrain is willing to go to Rogelio with "proof"…he knows the location of certain birthmarks that Cinthia has.  And he doesn't care if Rogelio kills him, because then he'd be rid of his obsession for Cinthia.

AP tries to take notes on the meeting, but Vanessa says "everyone" already knows how the whole process works, so she might as well stop taking notes.  AP insists she wants to learn, so Rogelio tells her that he'll explain it later.  Vanessa leaves and runs into Cinthia, on her way in to plead for Efrain's job back.  But neither her pleading, nor AP's can get Rogelio to change his mind.  He won't talk to Efrain and that's his final word on the subject.  Cinthia storms out and AP tries to ask Rogelio why he won't at least talk to Efrain.  Rogelio explains that she really needs to quit cutting his balls off in front of the help.

Consuelo and Maria find Margarito.  He's hurting all over and won't let them move him.

AP says if she has to be a "yes" woman, they're not going to be able to make this work.  Maria comes running in, screaming that Margarito fell of the trellis and he can't get up.

Cinthia comes storming into the living room, bitching about Rogelio not wanting to do a favor for her.  She tries to give Vanessa the "clean" version of the story about Efrain's firing.  Vanessa comes back bitching about how AP was in on their business meeting, taking notes.  Cinthia says AP thinks she'll get her hands on everything, but she'd rather see the hacienda fail before letting AP get her hands on it.  And that, right there, is why Rogelio really shouldn't be handing over her half of the hacienda.  She doesn't seem to realize that if the hacienda's reputation is hurt, her "half" won't be worth anything either.  Dumbass!

Rogelio tells them not to move Margarito.  He tells AP to go on ahead while he calls for a helicopter and a portable x-ray machine.

Efrain is in the kitchen, stewing.  Cinthia says Rogelio won't talk to him.  He bitches about how things could be different if she'd fight for what's hers.  He'll keep quiet for now, but he's not going to let things rest indefinitely.

Ernesto calls Mercedes to whine.  She says there's been an accident and she needs him.

AP tries to calm Margarito down.  It's hurting everywhere and he's having trouble moving his fingers without pain.

Later, the EMTs are leaving and AP tells them she'll show the x-rays to the doctor and not to worry, there are two nurses in the house to take care of Margarito.  They leave and Mercedes takes this opportunity to needle AP some more.  "Oh, right, you're a nurse.  Let's see, if I remember correctly, you didn't actually work as a nurse very long before you married your sugar daddy."  You wanna do this now, right now?  You smug, self-righteous bitch!  Don’t even get me started on how much of this mess is your fault!  AP says she doesn't need to discuss it with her.  She claims it's her love for Margarito that will make her the best nurse for him.  Is that the best argument you can come up with?  Mercedes doesn't think AP is capable of loving anyone.  AP says, whatever, thanks for getting the specialist here, even if you don't like me.  Mercedes says it was Rogelio who got the helicopter.  Well, she'd better go down and wait for Ernesto to arrive.  Margarito's lying in bed with a cervical collar.

Mercedes finally sees Gustavo, who's happy to see her.  "Why didn't you tell me Ana was here?"  He didn't want to argue about it anymore.  Mercedes asks if he really likes Cinthia…"Please don't get in the middle of this!  And don't tell anyone about me and Ana.  I'm here for Cinthia."  Mercedes doesn't think Cinthia is going to take it well when she finds out.  Cinthia comes up, whining to Gustavo about how the whole house is turned upside down because of some stupid orphan kid.  "Margarito?!"  She tones it down when she realizes Gustavo likes the kid.  Ernesto comes up and Mercedes is happy to see him.  "Well, how could I not come when you'd asked me?"  I roll my eyes at you.  All of you.  No one escapes my eye rolling!

Rogelio doesn't like seeing Margarito like this. He'd rather he be running around.  Ernesto comes in and is introduced to Rogelio.  AP hands over the x-rays and he takes a look.  He sighs heavily and asks to be left alone with the patient.

AP paces in Rogelio's office.  "There's no doubt that your life can change in a moment."  Rogelio snorts, "You're telling me."  AP tells him to wait and see what the doctor says.  Ernesto comes in and says they need to let the swelling go down before they'll know, but yes, it's possible that Margarito could be paralyzed.  Rogelio flips his wig.

Tomorrow: Cinthia tries to eat Gustavo's face; Mercedes whines; AP and Gustavo get busted hugging in the hallway by Cinthia.

Greeeat. So Mr. 5ft was right. Nothing but whining and crying this whole episode. I wanted to kick almost everybody at some point during the episode. So much idiocy, so little time to smack them all!

Oh 5ft, this was absolutely great, from start to finish. So many things I laughed out loud about! You are brilliant. Thank you so much.

Will be back to discuss more later, I am sure.

Muchas gracias Kat! Straight & to the point. My faves were:

"Maria overhears, applies the quadratic equation, and finds out that where AP, Cinthia, and Mercedes are A, B, and C…Gustavo is X." —this novela is s-o-o-o layered with complicated relationship plots, I sometimes can't even do the math myself.

"The mean girls go off to braid each other's hair..." —Actually the only one with braids is the hapless Jennifer Aniston whoops! that is, Dani. Poor thing, she could use a friend (boy or girl) at this point.

"No one escapes my eye rolling!" —What's my problem with this guy? He seems nice enough, but annoying as heck.

So Rogelio gets to live through the horrible possibility of Margarito's being crippled just like him.The expression on his face when Ernesto delivered the prognosis was heartbreaking. I think Rog's control issues stem from his injury. They all say he was a nice guy before the accident. And now his tightly-held universe is cracking apart at every seam. Pobre de Rogelio!

Great work, Kat.

Tia MentiRosa will definitely burn for this one. Imagine what she must have been like when her sister died and she ended up with Miguel and AP. I'm not a maternal type but I wanted to kick her all the way to el Norte.

Miguel definitely should make pinetas to sell (though I've never seen wooden ones). He needs ongoing projects but he still needs a residential facility.

There is no way Rogelio should have paid millions of pesos to keep him free. That's Rogelio's bad karma for the moment, as 1 million pesos (today) = $77,900 US.

Rogelio, is this really worth it? Spend this money on a good doctor -- for yourself as well as Margarito.

Dani needs to let go of him and take another serious look at Hugo. Somebody e-mail her that photo.

I think we're close to getting a clue or two to Margarito's origins. Ulisses needs to surrender those documents to somebody. And his friendship with Efrain will be beyond over once he finds out about him boinking Macaria.

Sinthia is an idiot. Nothing else need be said. There is no way she should have her inheritance now and if there is nothing to hand over to her after Vainessa and her minions are done it serves her right.

Rogelio is no saint, but he doesn't deserve this.

Who wants to bet that the feed that was just delivered was contaminated?

Mercedes really needs to get a grip. AP graduated at the top of her class when there was no available job at the hospital. How dare she comment on AP's skills.

Kat, what a great recap. Full, funny and fast! Thank you. Like LXV, loved:

"No one escapes my eye rolling"

I see Dani knows how to do that drippy, drippy crying as well. It must be something in the country air. Who doesn't want to wipe their face when crying like that?

Good plot twist-Mgrito's possible paralysis. And, as a plot contrivance, better than amnesia!

Kat: "he doesn't drink (sad when that's a selling point)" for some reason, that hit my funny bone first. I am not a Hugo-ista!! Not my cuppa cuppa. Anyway, a terrific and very entertaining recap. Your quips never fail to elicit more than a few chuckles and guffaws from me.

Kat, thanks for explaining again why I was shaking my head the entire episode. Let's give Mr. 5ft a drink for his incisive analysis: "whining and crying."

If there's a child in a TN plot, isn't there a law the child has to be either sick or injured at some point? When Margarito climbed that trellis, I had a foreboding about his fall. Nice of Rosaura to make him feel hopeless.

Hugo rises on the scale of sweet behavior, and Efrain goes WAAAY down. What a @#!! he is.

At least Maria knows all of AP's situation now, and might support her. And we know AP can use all the help she can get.

La Paloma

Thank you 5ft for this great great recap. Loved the mean girls braid each other's hair lol. Oh, this epi was hard with Margarito's fall. The Tia should have the biggest anvil hit her ever. I hope he isn't paralyzed. Poor Rohell just flipped his lid, I hope he finds out it was the Tia that caused this.

Ms Mercy needs to shut her pie hole. I couldn't beleive she just starts yelling at the Cupcake as soon as she sees her. I was so happy when the guy asks Mrs Montero if everything is alright, Ms Mercy had to take a breath there lol.

Loved Hugo kissing Dani. I think she liked it, after the fact. I so agree he is way hot and much better than Miguel for her.

Maria was so good this episode. Love how she tells it like it is. She didn't turn her back on the Cupcake either, but listened to her. I hope she helps the Cupcake through this mess.

Effer, wow, blackmail. I knew he would do something stupid. He ought to have manned up and gone to see Rohell himself. Macaria is going to regret sleeping with him, big time.

Hi 5ft. I LOVED the part where María solves the quadratic equation LOL! Yeah, Mr. 5ft was right - moan and whine! How sweet of him to feed you snacks while you attend to the serious business of following this TN.

If Gus doesn't get it when Cinthia waltzes in complaining about everyone being worried over "the stupid orphan" then, well, he is just blind! But I guess we already knew that.

And the delighted look on Vainessa's face when Cinthia claims she'd rather see the hacienda ruined before AP gets her hand on any part of it! Cinthia - I think you're going to get your wish, and your "best friend" is SO delighted to oblige.

Wow, Mercedes was just over the top! But at least AP gave some back with dignity.

Audrey

P.S. Lori - your question last night - I live in the southern tip of Texas on the Mexican border. Otherwise known as "the (lower) Rio Grande Valley". It's not a valley, it's the delta of the Rio Grande and very flat, but everyone refers to it as "the Valley".

Thanks, Kat. I always look forward to your recaps and this is another gem.

I've got to go to work but I wanted to point out a detail that impressed me last night. I've not been an Ernesto fan but when he was presented to Rogelio and knelt down to talk to him he demonstrated a level of compassion that all Dr.'s could (and should) emulate.

Carlos

As usual, your recap was better than the actual episode! Thank you for the early edition which I was able to finish with breakfast.

5ft--Wow, what an episode. I started to read your always wonderful recaps, but your first pp urged me to comment right away.

Rogelio didn't ask Paula how she was getting along with Gustavo. He wanted to know what her relationship with her NOVIO had been like. He still thinks there are TWO Gustavos. If he had known at that point that Cin's Gustavo was also Pau's Gustavo, Paula's bags would be packed and Gustavo would have fuete marks across his back.

Now, back to reading.
Anita

Anita - Rogelio did ask AP how she was getting along with Gustavo. And she (guiltily) answered that she had hardly spoken to him.

Audrey

I think in the TN law about kids we need to include kidnapping as in LFDD.

In the Carita de Angels of this world the child is the voice of reason.

I'm so tired of Sin eating Gustavo's face. She really does look like a catfish (vacuum cleaner mouth) when she does it!

Yep - Rogelio paid out an outrageous amount to make the nasty charge against Miguel go away. But you could tell he realized it was his punishment for his "sin" of having pushed it in the first place.

Audrey

5ft:

This was just great. Thanks a lot. When you get time to smack everyone, will you let me know? I'd really like to see that.

Hahaha.

"Sinthia is an idiot. Nothing else need be said. There is no way she should have her inheritance now and if there is nothing to hand over to her after Vainessa and her minions are done it serves her right."

Sinthia has become tied with Tia Mentirosa for my least favorite character. Bruno at least gloats in his evil. Sin's betrayal of her brother AND her patrimony are just careless but evil. She is an idiot.

EJ

Audrey--I will watch that part again. I thought Rogelio was still talking about her old novio and she replied that she had hardly spoken to him. I can't see why Rogelio would be interested if she had spoken to Cin's Gustavo. But, I'm willing to stand corrected.
Anita

Yes, he was talking about Cinthia's novia. He made the point that Cinthia's Gustavo might become their brother-in-law. That's why he was interested in how AP got along with him.

Audrey

5ft: Loved the recap and the title.

Carlos: I noticed Ernesto's getting down to Rogelio's level. It looked like Ernesto thought he was in something medieval, bowed down to his master, then remembered where he was and stood up.

5ft: Loved the recap and the title.

Carlos: I noticed Ernesto's getting down to Rogelio's level. It looked like Ernesto thought he was in something medieval, bowed down to his master, then remembered where he was and stood up.

Carlos, I also noticed how Ernesto kneeled down to talk to Rohell. My interpretation was that Ernesto is used to dealing with people in wheelchairs, and this is just how he is. I thought it was a nice gesture.

@Carlos & Elvira: I agree. When I saw Ernesto kneel to speak with Rog, it seemed reflexive. and I immediately thought, "What a pro—he really is a specialist to know to do that."

5ft, terrific recap. Among my favorites: Maria's "quadratic equation" solving to reach Gustavo = X and “Mercedes' continued ranting can be summed up as, "You're a whore, you never loved my brother, you're a whore, the sooner everyone finds out you're a whore, the better…and oh, yeah, you're a whore!"

That was pretty low of Efrain to tell Ulises that he treated Macaria as “if she were my own wife." lol

Loved when Maria chastised AP for being worried about Gustavo but not about Rogelio. From the look on AP's and Gus's face when the word pregnancy has come up, there was no protection used. But I don’t think she’s pregnant.

Ah, Hugo. You had me at “trabajador.” Hope Dani goes for it. She's known Miguel since they were kids and doesn't want to let go, but she's grown up and he hasn't.

I like Ernesto. Though I can't stand Mersnotty, she and Ernesto have chemistry.

I loved this recap. It was hilarious. I'm following Abismo de Pasion and that one was hilarious as well. You recappers are fantastic. Not only do you follow the story completely, but you make it entertaining and enjoyable to read.

What do women see in Miguel? Now Consuela? He must have some kind of charisma that doesn't translate across the screen.

Tia is a piece of work. She needs to be found out big time. I hope Margarito tells AP what she said to him.

Effer and Blackmail. Hey, the guy needs to make money some how since he's unemployed.

Love this recap 5ft. It sure was a lot of whining in this episode. Uh oh. Now Maria suggested that AP could be pregnant after congressing with Gus. It might just be possible since they didn't use protection.

Rosaura was again cruel to Margarito and part of the reason he was injured and now could be paralyzed. The reaction Rog had when Ernesto told him the prognosis was gut wrenching.

Mercedes really got on my nerves. I was yelling, "Shut up," at my television.

I too am with you Pirate Babe, I yelled at my tv too, when Ms Mercy was yelling at the Cupcake. lol.

When Vainessa does the dirty deeds to Rogelio's fortune Sinthia will whine and moan and Vainessa will laugh her evil ass off at her.

I don't know how anyone recovers from that they're planning.

That will make MentiRosa go insane. How much does anyone want to bet she will push AP to leave Rogelio for Bruno?

I find it interesting this class system that they have on the TNs. Nurses are on the level of field hands and blue collar workers, even though they are educated. I don't think Hugo would have tried to kiss Dani if they weren't considered to be on the same level. But even though Rog married AP, that doesn't elevate the status of Miguel, her brother and Rog's brother-in-law, or Tia. Engineers and lawyers are considered higher up on the social ladder, and are good enough to marry the wealthier class. Doctors are probably on that level too.

Back again with clarification. I STAND CORRECTED re the Gustavo reference. Here is the loosely translated verbatim conversation between Rogelio and Ana Paula in the despacho.

AP-I was waiting for you on the terrace and you didn't arrive.

R-Pardon me, but I was taking care of a matter. If I had known you wanted to see me, I would have been there.

AP-Please don't make me wait by myself. Your sister is intolerable, and, truthfully, I would have answered her as she deserved.

R-Calm, calm [yourself]. I'll talk to her.

AP-No, don't do that, it might make it [matters] worse. But if you are going to eat here in the office, tell me, so I don't have to go to the patio without you.

R-I promise. Could you sit for a moment? Well, hmmm, Gustavo, her boyfriend [su novio], how does he behave with you [como se porta contigo]?

AP-The truth is that I hardly speak to him.

R-It sounds as though he's a nice enough muchacho that you would get along with well [que te puede caer bien]...
...I didn't catch the exact next words but Rogelio says something like he could turn into your.. sounded like cuncun (I think he meant cuñado).

The key was just the one little word "su" that I got wrong. It was when Rogelio referred to Gustavo as su novio, as in Cinthia's.

If it had been AP's old novio, Gustavo, he would have said "tu novio" and probably not be asking in such a nice way.

++++++++

I also noticed Ernesto's kneeling to be on Rogelio's eye level. Remember he is a spinal chord doctor and he probably sees a lot of paralyzed patients in wheelchairs and he considers his patients feelings above all.

Standing in front of them would make him seem to be putting on airs.

I just hated, hated, what Tia said to Margarito. He called her a Mentirosa--just what we've been calling her for ages. Will any one at the ranch ever learn what she said led indirectly to his fall? Maybe he'll tell Ernesto.
Anita

I know a few neurologists and orthopedists.
Trust me, they NEVER kneel.
No, I think we can attribute this to Ernesto being a better guy than we originally may have thought.

Emarie, I've no doubt what you say is true. For that reason I brought this up. It is a truly committed and respectful physician that will kneel down before a patient in a wheelchair or a child for that matter. It is second nature and done without any thought of making some sort of show. A physician may have considerable technical skills and abilities, but without that personal connection and respect for the concerns of the patient... there is something missing. I found Ernesto, whom I've not really cared for until now, to be very believable last night and a refreshing departure from the way physicians are often portrayed in TNs.

Carlos

Kat, I'm coming late to the party, as usual, but I still wanted to add my thanks for a great recap. You're one of the reasons I decided to watch this TN. I love your recaps, and this was no exception. Like many others, I especially enjoyed your comment "The mean girls go off to braid each other's hair while posting nasty shit about Ana Paula on Facebook."

As for MentiRosa, she's been pretty appalling all through this TN, but last night with her behavior toward Margarito, she definitely sank to a new low. I think there will be no redemption.

I'm hoping against hope that Maria's explicitly putting together AP's fainting and the possibility of pregnancy may make it less likely. In other words, the writers are playing with us. Ojalá.

From a plot perspective it's not happenstance that Margarito's accident is coinciding with Macaria's mention of the documents that identify his parents.

Just an observation.

Carlos: "It is a truly committed and respectful physician that will kneel down before a patient in a wheelchair or a child for that matter. It is second nature and done without any thought of making some sort of show. A physician may have considerable technical skills and abilities, but without that personal connection..." Here, here!!

Anita-
Rogelio was saying that Gustavo could turn out to be AP's concu~no, which is the husband of her cu~nada. In Spanish they have 2 different words to differentiate the relationships.
Thanks 5ft for a great recap and to everyone for all the great comments. My fave part of last night was Hugo having more lines in one episode than he has had in the whole novela put together! Love him for Dani!

Juanita, I thought that the fact that Maria brought up the fainting and possible pregnancy as a sign that she probably is. AP never said that she was sure that she wasn't, i.e. her period started. Not that they would ever bring that up on a TN, lol.

I have to add my admiration to 5ft's recap and the quadratic equation, but also the eye rolling. And the mean girls, hair braiding, but also the comment about posting something on Facebook. So true.

I usually comment late in the day so have the advantage of reading others first. It makes my day!

BTW: do they still make "Nerf" balls? Those are great to throw at the TV.

p.s. Audrey- thanks for the note. I guess that makes you a "Valley Girl". lol

One more thing - Macaria should be somewhat nicer to hubby after sleeping with the Effer. Just thinking out loud...

Nope, never hear us referred to as valley girls around here! LOL! We're "Winter Texans" or gringos. I live in a 85% Hispanic community which is pretty cool. Each winter season we are flooded with snowbirds from all over seeking the nice winter weather. But it does look kind of odd with lots of white seniors and otherwise mostly Hispanic folks of all ages. Any references to the local area is "en el Valle" or "en el Valle de Texas". My husband and I really enjoy it here. We moved here from Central Texas because the local wildlife (birds, butterflies, etc.) is extraordinary and there are tons of great parks.

Audrey

Isabel--
Thank you for the aclaracion. I never knew that, it makes all the sense in the world.

Also, estoy de acuerdo--Hugo shirtless and no longer voiceless!
Anita

cathyX--
Remember, in Sortilegio, Alex, the "purported" husband of Maria Jose was very concerned about her "regla," and when her period was due. It all had to do with whether she would be able to "divorce" him, but not if she were pregnant with his child.

It would seem to me that if Paula isn't sure enough to say no to Maria unequivocably, then she hasn't missed her first period yet. On the other hand, the look on her face tells us that, Gulp, it might be true.

We also saw Roberta in CME getting Selene to get her a pregnancy test kit and watched her look at the results after fainting and throwing up (Maria Jose also had morning sickness).

Also in CME, we saw Marina looking at the calendar, counting up the days and realizing she had missed her period.

If AP is pregnant, we will likely hear more about it very soon. The days are passing by very quickly since she was with Gussie.

Great recap 5ft!

I'm quite behind this story :(.

"...I didn't catch the exact next words but Rogelio says something like he could turn into your.. sounded like cuncun (I think he meant cuñado)."

He said "concuño". Cinthia, as Rogelio's sister, is Ana Paula's cuñada. If Gustavo married Cinthia, then he would be her concuño and Rogelio's cuñado.

Jarocha

Thanks, 5 ft. and to the Mr. for a great description of the episode. I'm very late to the gate, too.

Still, even with the whining, I'm enjoying this stage of the novela, with all of the layers of relationships and double-crossing.

UA- I think the only way that Rogelio escapes from the David-Vanessa-Bruno traps is if the three schemers try to undermine each other. But he recovers only after it is clear to all that AP doesn't care about the money, something we in viewerville know well.

I love Gustavo's look of total bewilderment at every point along the way. He is the proverbial dull knife in the drawer. And Rogelio seems dimmer, too, the more in love he gets. Efraim has revealed himself as the smartest person on this show.

The issue of who is higher in the social order is so interesting. More annoying than the ranking of the nurses AP and Dani, is that they are not working in nursing. I understand that there are no opportunities in this area, but their training looks so much less than it is when they end up in Dani's case as a filer.

Traveling lady, I agree about the lack of a sense of professionalism in both of these ladies. Getting an education is an investment of time, money and personal resources. Presumably upon graduation they were full of piss and vinegar and ready to go out and conquer the world with their newly-acquired expertise and proud of their licenses. So why are these gals just hanging around the hacienda, doing their nails and whining?

As for period-watching, don't forget that Ada in Alborada, who, in the days before disposable paper products, took care of laundering all Hipólita's things, was the first to point out to her that she was pregnant because she had always been so regular before and now...?

I think Macaria's bitchiness toward Ulises is quite realistic. She's conflicted big-time now that she's "done it" with Efraím. I think she really enjoyed losing herself in the moment but now feels gruesome remorse and guilt, but at the same time, it's the first chink in the wall surrounding her constrained little world and she's itching to bust out, but fearful. I would say very fearful, because of how she was raised, the whole small town thing, and because she has no experience relying on her own resources if she decides to make the break. So yeah, I would say lashing out at Uli would be the natural reaction.

Traveling Lady and LXV, your assessments of the characters in their last postings, are in line with mine totalmente.

AP, though (taking her side somewhat weakly, because we don't see it), is in charge of Rogelio's physical therapy. Maybe she didn't train for that particular specialty, but it's certainly within her realm of knowledge of the body.

It's not her fault that he's a grumpy sour puss and doesn't want to cooperate. If he would stop to think about it, having AP do his physical therapy gives him some quality alone time to continue to woo her. Meanwhile he hasn't given her anything else significant to do with her time.

He's still somewhat worried that she might run away again and is working hard to ensure that is not going to happen, mostly by doing things to make her infinitely beholden to him.

I wonder if or when this feeling of being trapped into loving him will become real love.

Margarito's accident and restoring the chapel (in Friday's episode) are the first inklings (since the Gustavo-golpe accusation thing).
Anita

Jarocha--thank you for your explanation. Isabel also posted it. I had never heard that term used, at least not in general conversations I've had in Spanish (which are very limited).
Anita

Anita, I agree with everything except that it's not Rog who's not cooperating but it's AP who has been neglecting her physical therapy duties every since she ran away.

Once she finally had Bruno read the contract and realized that not only she owes Rog 6 extra months but also that Rog could extend the contract if he wishes; AP told him then that she'll do nothing else but the pretend wife that she was hired to be.

AP has breeched her contract so many times over that if Rog decided to cash in on it she'll be indebted to him for the rest of her life. Instead of being grateful that he's still putting with her, she's only showed him what an immature girl she is with her bad attidute and constant whinnings.

----

Renata770--You are probably right, I miss a lot. But I thought when she was "returned," that she told him that she would only comply with the letter of the contract. Wouldn't that include what she was hired to do--physical therapy--and pretend to be the congenial wife in public, and that was all she would do. The contract didn't say she had to be at his side at all times. Rogelio didn't like that.

I remember when the two of them went through something like this before. I think it was either Tia or Miguel was told to eat in the kitchen, as deserved his/her status, but AP was to dine in the dining room. She told him she would also eat in the kitchen, as befitted a regular employee and be with the people she loved. The contract didn't specify that she had to eat with him. Rogelio didn't like that.
Anita

Although this may not be the case in Mexico, Physical Therapy is an advanced discipline requiring (now) a minimum of about 7 years for licensure. There are plenty of old-time PTs practicing without these advanced degrees, but the trend now is to get the doctorate. And it has been my personal experience as a patient, that these professionals are among the most highly-trained & knowledgeable of all the "ancillary" health care workers. Often, you will see orthopedic surgeons defer to the PTs because they just plain know more about how the "neck bone's connected to the ankle bone" It simply isn't plausible that Ana Paula would have enough expertise to diagnose and design a therapeutic program for Rogelio. She could certainly help him with his exercises, as could Hugo, but we never see a doctor or a PT involved in his care.

" I understand that there are no opportunities in this area, but their training looks so much less than it is when they end up in Dani's case as a filer."

This is something that's quite real to portray, though. Many people, especially those who don't have the means to support themselves while they look for a job, finish their schooling and can't work in their field because there are no vacants. Then, they start working in another field and find that this one is better to their needs as it pays well or enough for them.

A big reason for this is because Mexico doesn't have an unemployment insurance and the minimum wage jobs (4 dollars a day) are not enough to live decently. There's a great pressure on young proffessionals to find something, anything, that could classify as a decent job right away, unless they want to live in very excruciating conditions.

Of course, this is not the same for those who come from families with better financial means to support them. Then they can wait without working or working with a minimum wage while they look out for a vacant in their field. Sometimes they have to wait a month before finding a proper job and that's just unthinkable for those who lack that financial support.

This is another way in which, the family you are born into affects the way you live and develop as a person.

Jarocha

Thank you again, Jarocha. I just wanted you to know that I came back to this posting before starting Friday's episode.

The story is not so different from what is happening in some professions here in the US as the economy drives RIFs and downsizing. We are still churning out engineers, CPA's, librarians, teachers and other professions requiring post graduate degrees and they can't find positions which would pay them a decent wage. They move back home and take any job to have pocket money.

The alta professions--medicine and law are another story without the same dire straits on coming out with their graduate degrees.
Anita

I understand Anita. This is a dire result of an economic crisis.

What the US is going through today is simmilar in a way to what Mexico lived from the late 70's to the mid 90's. There was a whole generation lost in that crisis but now our economy is getting better. However, the scars of that are still present in our social tissue. And that's reflected in events like our war on drugs.

Then there's the issue of proportionality. Back before the 80's, if you finished a degree you'd end up working in that field. But it was a very small portion of the population that actually finished their studies. Nowadays, there are millions of proffessionals looking out for jobs and although our economy and living standards have gotten better, we haven't reached the right numbers of job creation to employ them all.

I do have high hopes for the future, our macro economic levels are stable and we have a great outlook of growth for the next years.

But our society is still finding that hard to believe, there's alot of hoplessness. 20 years of crisis and crazy inflation rates (over 100% from one day to the next), 72 years living under an authoritarian regime and now the problem of the war on drugs, makes people feel like things won't ever change. Even though it is happening right now.

Sorry to get all political on you, lol.

Jarocha

Jarocha--The sad thing is that it is the US consumption that is driving maybe a large part (don't know the statistics) of the drug crisis and violence raging in Mexico and other Central American countries. But if it weren't us, the traffickers would just find another market, like Europe to sell them.
