Una Familia Con Suerte #169-170 Mon 3/19/12

A couple of conversations are happening at Avon.

First, there’s the one with Pina and Arnold. Basically, Pina tells Arnold that she wants to consult a doctor because she wants to have another child with Vicente.

The second conversation is between Enzo and Lidia. Lidia won’t give up on the person she wants. Enzo really doesn’t want to start any sort of relationship with her.
At that same time, he gets a call from Chela who asks if he’d accompany her to Candy’s wedding. He says he can’t because he has to work. Poor Chela.

Pancho also gets a call from Napoleon who confirms Pancho’s attendance at the wedding. Pancho asks Napoleon to think about whether or not this wedding is the best thing for Candy. He loves her, but does she feel the same? Hmmm.

Of course, Candy’s wedding is quite extravagant. Pina and Vicente appear and surprise Candy. Pina wastes no time in informing Candy that she and Vicente are together again and that they’ve found love once again. This doesn’t set well with Candy. Pina demonstrates affection and love for Vicente. She’s pretty cruel, actually. No wonder the kids kept calling her Cruela. In fact, Vicente even asks why Pina had to be so cruel.
Pina meets with and talks to Napoleon, while Debora makes sure that Candy straightens up and flies right. She needs to wipe her tears and move forward.

Pina asks Napoleon to leave Freddy alone and not threaten him anymore. She also asks if they can be friends. He agrees, but in his own subtle way, he lets her know that he knows EVERYTHING that’s going on in their lives, including the fact that she wants another child.

While Pancho is waiting for the rest of the Lopez clan to come outside to the Burra so that they can leave for the wedding, he calls Rebe and asks for her forgiveness. She still won’t. He even invites her to the wedding. Time, Pancho…Time. You’ll have to go through some things first.
Dona Fer is the first to be ready and joins Pancho. They talk for a bit. We learn how it is that Vicente is her nephew. He is her sister’s son. Pancho realizes that he and Vicente are cousins! It cracks him up.

At the gym, Enzo and Rebe run into one another and have a chat. She congratulates him on the baby and asks if he got back together with Chela. He says no. They continue to talk, and even though Rebe doesn’t want to talk about Pancho, Enzo warns her that he will need all of their support at work, because Vicente might want to overpower Pancho due to the number of stocks he has in the company. Hmmm…Vicente has stock, and so does Pina. They’ve gotten back together. I guess the stocks got back together as well, huh??? Oh, Vicente! We know your scheme.
Enzo and Rebe continue to talk, and she encourages him to try again with Chela, especially since they’re about to be parents. He encourages her to give Pancho another chance.

Back at the wedding, Chela shows up and tries to cheer up Candy.
Shortly thereafter, Pancho and crew show up. Guess who else shows up? Karina. And, there begin to be problems between Ana and Freddy.

Candy and Napoleon marry; although, Candy doesn’t seem very convinced or happy. Napoleon, knowing this very well, reaffirms that he will do everything he can to make her happy.

At the party, Lupita and Ana chat. Ana is bummed because she wants to dance with Freddy, but he’s nowhere to be found. Hmmm, come to think of it, neither is Karina. Oh boy!

Pancho finds Vicente and Pina and has quite an enjoyable time letting them know that they are related! Vicente and Pina are not thrilled with this idea. Pancho also came to the discovery that Ana and Freddy are also related…second cousins. Vicente and Pina freak out about this.

Kari goes to look for Freddy, and Ana spots her. She shows Karina who’s boss. Freddy is Ana’s man. Chaos erupts. Even Monica asks Karina what possessed her to show up to the wedding. Karina informs everyone that Pina invited her. Monica gets her out of there. Meanwhile, Ana tells Freddy that she’s fed up with Pina’s antics and deeds to separate them.

In a private but elegant room, Napoleon shows Candy a folder with various papers. In that folder is proof that Pina went to go see a doctor because she wants a child. In that folder was also a full report of every woman with whom Vicente had relations. Candy doesn’t want to see it and asks Napoleon to stop pouring salt in the wound.
He does make her happy though. He shows her a deed. This is a document which shows Candy as the new owner of the radio station which produces her show. Go Candy!

Meanwhile, Pancho, Chela, Vicente and Pina, Ana, and Freddy are talking or arguing. Vicente and Pina are trying to make the kids see that their relationship is incestuous and should not be. The kids won’t relent and know there has to be a way for their love to triumph. Pina especially is freaking out.

Napoleon can’t wait for his first night with Candy as husband and wife. Candy is hesitant…unsure.

Monica and Karina talk. Monica basically warns Karina to be careful and not to let herself be manipulated by Pina. Karina is in love, and she will not listen to reason. She just knows she wants to fight for Freddy.

Ana and Freddy do a bit of research and present it to their folks. Basically, if they choose to have kids in the future, they probably wouldn’t be affected. Vicente and Pina still don’t agree.

Enzo and Monica go and visit Violeta in the hospital. She’s full of remorse. Monica is in good spirits.
Violeta lets them know that she’s planning on going to France to a hospital where she knows she can get special treatment. She asks Monica to go to France with her.

The Lopez siblings are coming up with some kind of scheme (I mean a helping hand) regarding Lupita and Tomas. Oh boy.

We then have kind of a cute scene between Pancho and Rebe. He goes into her office bringing tamales for her. She thanks him. He asks to talk to her and says that it is work related. She accepts and begins to let him know what Enzo told her in confidence. When Vicente’s name is mentioned, he lets her know that he discovered they were cousins. This causes Rebe to smile and laugh, and Pancho wastes no time in complimenting her. He lets her know that it’s how he likes to see her…smiling. Of course, she immediately wipes off the smile. Poor Pancho. You’ve gotta feel bad for the guy.

We have a “cursy” scene with Pina and Vicente. They’re letting the whole office know who loves whom more. Whatever. Enzo witnesses the whole thing. When Vicente and Enzo talk, Vicente admits he never stopped loving Candy even though he loves Pina. Red flags.

Candy also needs to be careful. Chela notices, while conversing, that Candy is already thinking of how she’s going to “enjoy” this marriage for as long as she has to be in it. After all, he bought her a radio station, so why not? Of course, if Candy’s not careful, Napoleon could find out Candy’s true intentions (taking advantage of him and his money). Chela warns her.

We then have a whole lot of shaking going on throughout the city. Tomas goes to visit Lupita at the Casa Popular, and the earthquake begins. They try and get the kids out of the way. At Avon, Rebe begins freaking out regarding the earthquake. Pancho is right there with her. Of course, his arms protect her until everything stops shaking.

Several folks talked about their earthquake fears. Rebe was in a building during the earthquake of 1985, and she feared the building would collapse. Enzo also was shaken up by the earthquake.

Back at the neighborhood, things are a mess. The Campos’ house is a mess, and Elena is freaking out. Tomas and the kids are worried because Lupita is nowhere to be seen or found. She actually goes back to the Casa Popular to save a little girl. She’s trapped, as part of the roof fell on her, and Tomas has a hard time saving her. Of course, he does.

Rebe and Pancho talk about the advantages of him accepting Dona Fer’s offer regarding inheriting her Avon stocks. The more they talk, the more they revert back to how they used to be. Of course, Rebe won’t quite accept it yet, but her anger is slowly subsiding. We still have a ways to go though.

There’s a brief scene where Lidia says goodbye to Pancho. She’s going back to Miami, where she already has a life. Things didn’t work out with Enzo.

In her office, when nobody’s looking, Rebe thinks back to and enjoys Pancho’s detail regarding the tamales. She smiles. She also thinks back to the earthquake. She can’t get Pancho out of her mind.

Candy and Napoleon talk about love and Blackjack. Interesting. He really does seem to love her. He asks for her forgiveness because of how he forced things and their relationship. Of course, she’ll mess things up.

Freddy interrupts Vicente, as he is deep in thought regarding Candy’s wedding. He wants Vicente’s help in telling Pina not to interfere in his and Ana’s relationship.

Chela and Enzo are thrilled as they both look at and enjoy their ultrasound. They’re about to kiss.

Monica and Pepe talk, and she breaks the news to Pepe about being asked to go to France. Pepe freaks out at first but seems to understand. Neither of them know what to do without the other in their lives.

We go back to Vicente and Freddy. Vicente doesn’t really seem to want to do much to help him regarding Pina.

Rebe visits Pina and lets her know that she’s concerned about the company and about what Vicente will do with his power and ownership of stocks in the company.

The last scene is back at the neighborhood, with medics and police and everyone there not allowing Pancho to go in and help save Lupita.

Moving comments from my earlier post...

I loved this episode, at least until Lupita got squashed.

The return of comedy! What a wedding!

Why was Pina dressed in shower scrubbies for the wedding? And her behavior was so tacky...topped by Ana's tacky behavior, though. The argument at home later with the puppet arms and Ana imitating Pina's fainting was hilarious, though.

Moving Madelaine's comment here because I'm deleting the other post:

Loved Candy's wedding but for being a Mafiosi the wedding looked like something out of 1001 Arabian nights. I thought it would be more like the Godfather. lol

I didn't like Pina and Vins' behavior at the wedding lots of PDA. Didn't like what Ana did at the wedding either, but loved her channeling Pina.

Loved how Pancho finally told Vins ha ha we are cousins. Loved it. Didn't like Pina's attitude about this either, but loved how Ana put her in her place ie Karina being so blue blooded, when in fact Ana is Dona Fer's granddaughter,so put that in your pipe and smoke it lol.

Didn't like Lupe being squashed, but love how the guys, Pancho, Tomas, Enzzo and Pepe ran the gate and saved her. I hope she doesn't have any life threatening injuries.

When Enzzo and Chela were at the doctor's for the sonigram, and they looked into each others eyes again and then hugged I was yelling at the tv Go On and Kiss Her, just DO IT!

I liked the talk with Enzzo and Rebe. It is good to see a friendship between them.

I don't like Moni going off with Violetta to France. Moni should just let her go and then visit once in a while.

So the honeymoon is in Vegas. What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas I guess. Napo did treat Candy well, but the poor thing looked so uncomfortable.

Thanks JP for this great recap. Thank you Julia for moving my comment.

I am glad too that Napo showed Candy how many other women Vins has been involved with. Now she knows what he is truly like. I like how he bought her the station. Now maybe she will have some independence. I am wondering if we will get to see Vins' Moms.

I also liked Freddy talking to his Dad about Pina, but he shouldn't have gotten on his knees. He should have just yelled at him or something to get his point across.

Oh shout out to Cheryl, hope she recovers quickly and am glad her surgery was successful.

Off the subject, did anyone see Wm Levy on Dancing last night? The crowd and judges went wild for him. They all thought he was hot, hot, hot. Was hilarious - he sure has a killer smile. He is going to have to work hard as there are some really good contestants this season.

Thanks so much JP! Running out to a meeting, so little time to comment. I agree with Julia and Madelaine about the fun parts of the episode. Ana imitating Pina was a hoot. Really enjoyed all the scenes with Enzo (with Rebe and Chela). Candy is really starting to like life with Napo, hmmmm...

I felt bad for Candy when Pina was digging in to her, but then I remembered that Candy had and AFFAIR with Pina's husband, all the while posing as Pina's friend. She kind of deserves it, but Pina should be more mature about it and be a bigger person.

I looked up the 1985 quake in Mexico. It killed between 10,000 and 60,000. They still aren't sure of the exact number. But it was big (8.0), terrifying, and deadly. No wonder all the adults in this mentioned it.

Thank you, JP! Great recap. I loved your remark about the stocks getting back together. I think those shares have the same temperamental, hot-and-cold relationship their owners have. The Avon and Belle Face stocks could have their own little soap opera.

I really wish these people would quit putting tamales and sandwiches in the microwave in plastic bags. They're going to give themselves cancer and autoimmune disorders.

Violeta just said she wanted Moni to accompany her on the trip to France and get her settled in, right? Not stay long-term. But I wonder if this is just another scheme of hers and she's going to hold Moni hostage somewhere instead of checking in for treatment.

OT there is breaking news right now about a 7.6 magnitude earthquake that hit near Acapulco, Mexico. I hope everyone down there is ok.

What crappy construction at the Casa Popular. Whoever built that place should be ashamed. It wasn't even that big an earthquake. Life in the rest of the city seemed to be going on as usual without even all the stuff falling off shelves and desks. They need to put in a PSA about proper structural engineering and construction standards ;).

Surely they won't let Lupita die, right? She's the brains of the whole family. I think Tomas will get to have saved her. I worry she might be paralyzed or something, though.

JP, thank you for the great recap. My favorite line is: "At that same time, he gets a call from Chela who asks if he’d accompany her to Candy’s wedding. He says he can’t because he has to work. Poor Chela". Ack. ITA.

I decided early on I wasn't going to watch this only because I just can't spend 4 hours straight watching Uni. I have seen a few scenes here and there recently and think I might have made a mistake. The reason I'm going to try and watch more often is simply Chela and Enzo.

Julia, I was also yelling at the TV for them to kiss during the sonogram. Such a wasted opportunity.

Diana

Oh, I forgot my other favorite funny part...Pancho and Vins dance-fighting in the middle of the floor at the wedding. They're both annoying, but they've got the moves.

I'm disappointed that sweet, sensible, supportive Kari has become so pathetic. I thought she and Tomas had real potential. I still don't want him back with Lupita even if he did save her life (by lifting a heavy beam from the middle rather than levering it from the end like a sensible person would do).

JP, Thanks for the awesome recap. I am too dopey to do anything that organized but I'll be back on next Monday.

I did get to watch through my great new lens (alas, no telephoto versions available yet). you know you've really lived when you begin to out live some of your body parts and get to go forward as the bionic woman you always dreamed of being!

The wedding was properly silly with the usual suspects acting like fools. I loved the Pina rants at Candy and Ana turning into the Ana channels Pina scene. What a kick.

Loved the tender excitement of Enzo and Chela. What , no kiss?? Boo!

Candy is torn between her pathetic clinging to the myth of love for Vicente and the great present bearing love showered on her by Napy. She will mess up both I am guessing.

Happy bionicizing, Cheryl! May you use your newfound superpowers only for good! I hope you recover quickly.

I love all the tension-filled Chela and Enzo moments, too, and keep yelling at him to just kiss her already...but actually I appreciate that he is holding out and waiting to see how serious she is about wanting him back. The fact is, she is still INEXPLICABLY not over Pancho.

Thanks, JP for the recap.

OT - Earthquake

And now life imitates art with today's Acupulco earthquake following on the heels of last night's UFCS capitulo. Wow. According to CNN, the epicenter of the quake is a pretty remote spot a couple of hundred miles from Acapulco.

By US Standards, a 7-punto-anything is a big-girl earthquake. I guess the scales are different in Mexico; according to their scales it was a 6.1 earthquake—on a different scale. In other words the USGS and the Mexican Geological survey are not disagreeing about the the size of the temblor, they simply use different scales with which to report magnitude.

What an odd day! This is the second incident in a TN from last night that brings up personal memories.

I lost my home in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake in San Francisco.

Julia, couldn't agree with you more about Lupita's rescue. Tomas needs to go back to school. Archimedes 'splained the lever's usefulness pretty well 2200 years ago.

Hope all of our friends in Mexico are safe and sound.

Jarocha, I know Veracruz is a very long way from the epicenter of this quake, but I hope you and all your dear ones are safe and sound, where ever they are in Mexico.

EJ

OT
Cheryl:

Know you have my kindest thoughts for a full recovery and perfect eyesight.

Abrazos,

EJ

Great recap.....did not see the show.
How ironic, a Telenovela earthquake, the night before a real earthquake.......now that's televisa luck.

Hopefully they have little damage....

JudyB, Guera.......it was a tuff lost for the black and gold last Saturday, good luck to you both in the sweet sixteen.

Life goes on.

Thanks for the recap JP and noting the shares are probably the reason for Vice's re-newed interest in Pina. Cheryl I hope you recover quickly.

It is freaky that there was a earthquake on the TN and one in real life.

Candy and Vice appear to be something very stupid, very soon.

Guess I've been out of the loop for a few days. Cheryl, sorry I didn't know you were having eye surgery but glad that it went well.

Anon#1...that WAS a tough loss. And I really like your coach. Better luck next year.

JP...excellent recap. Laughed at your "whole lotta shakin' going on". Terrific song, great quip.

Loved Pancho's dance moves (and that's the only thing I like about him).

Hated that while Lupita was in obvious pain and some piece of roof was lying on her pelvis, stupid Tomás kept hugging her and telling her he loved her. GET THE FRIGGIN' BOULDER OFF HER BODY, THEN YOU CAN CANOODLE, DUMMY.

Evidently Napolean is quite the lover. Hope Candy has a little happiness (and Napo as well) before she messes it up.
