Abismo de pasión #53 5/24/12: Old sage meets new age, believe in the Love Candle

Alternate title: Ramona fesses up, but does anyone care?

Since I won’t be home until late tonight I did the recap from watching online. The sound kept going in and out so sometimes I was guessing and sometimes I just didn’t have a clue what they were saying. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.

Oh crap, I forgot we ended the last episode on such a bummer. Glum Padre helps Gael out with his box and bag, then Paloma run up with her sad eyes, “You were leaving without saying goodbye to me?” “Don’t take it personally,” he says. (AAARGH! Men!) He says he wasn’t going to tell anyone. (Oh, well that makes it OK then...not!) He needs some distance from the Elisa and Damian thing. Basically, she begs him not to leave because she loves him. He looks momentarily confused, says he wishes he felt the same way about her, it would make things so much easier, pero los sentimientos no se manda (can’t command your feelings). Adios Paloma. Wow, these two have great chemistry. A little air boxing between Gael and Padre (sniff sniff, how cute), a teary-eyed Paloma, and off he goes in Lucio’s spiffy truck, leaving Padre and Paloma crying on the sidewalk.

Over at Casa Castigo, Lolita is scolding the lit love candle, saying Elisa is right, no way could it work,  when suddenly Braulio sneaks in and scares the bejesús out of her. He came over with Dam and noticed the service door was open so he came in to say hi. Lolita gently snarls that Dam had better not give Elisa a hard time. On the contrary, says Brau, Dam’s come to make up, and he hopes Lolita will work with him to get those crazy kids back together. By the way, how’s it going with Horacio? Fine, she says, we’re going out tomorrow. How about Antonia? OK like always, Brau shrugs, but he’s having a hard time with Vicente. He turns to leave but can’t resist turning back to gaze longingly at her, “It was really good to see you again. Truly.” Oh he’s still got it so bad for the braided one. Lolita scolds the candle again and decides she’d better not blow it out for Dam and Elisa’s sake. Riiiiight.

Elisa visits her Padrino to tell him she and Dam are kaput, but she doesn’t want to talk about it. And no, she doesn’t want to talk about Gael either. OK, he says, how about talking about her tierras? Nope, she wants to cancel the contract. No way, he says, she already signed. He tells her she can’t mix her personal problems with work, she’s got to learn to rise above her feelings. He grabs her so they can go view her tierras. What are they going to drive? I thought Gael took his truck?

Over at Casa Chisme Enrique packs his bags, he’s heading out to the DF to find Flor. Sabrina’s in a snit, how could he do this when the parental units are having problems? Enrique says he’s got to live his life and she should do the same. Aiiii! Ice pick in ears, it’s BegoneYa and she’s not happy to hear he’s leaving. What will Alfonsina say? If he leaves don’t bother coming back. “Thanks for the 411 Mama. See ya!”

Looks like Paloma is a no-show at work; Doc Tovar is busily seeing patients and answering his own phone. Wouldn’t you know it, the office is always empty but today of all days Paloma is late. Hey, it’s just like real life! He snaps her head off when she comes in, “Look at the time!” She bursts into tears and bursts his anger balloon. “Gael left town and I love him more than my own life,” she sobs. Doc puts his arm around her (No! BegoneYa’s going to walk in!) and gives her a gentle kiss on the head. They’ll talk about it later. Whew, nobody saw.

Lucio and Elisa are at her tierras when Team Damian arrives. Lucio, Brau and Vicente head off to check out the rocks in the field. Damian apologizes for what happened yesterday. He never believed that thing about Paolo and he was just upset to see her kissing Gael. She admonishes him, “Correction, he surprised me with that kiss.”  And how dare Dam be jealous, she and Gael have been best friends for many years and she loves him. She can’t forgive Dam because he always doubts her. He swears he doesn’t and he can prove it. “I want to marry you as soon as possible.” Well dang, that sure shut those heart-shaped lips of hers.

“You’re crazy, she says. “Loco for you,” he insists. He doesn’t want to live one more day without her, anyway it’s the only way to stop the gossip. If they get married his father and her mother will have to accept their relationship. (Really? Where in heck have you been for the past 52 episodes?) He says they won’t tell anyone, they’ll get married, then break the news. It won’t be hiding really, because they’ll invite only those who are on their side. He gets on his knees and she promises to think about it. He’ll be in the church at 8:00 that night. If she doesn’t show he’ll never bother her again. One more big fat kiss as the music crescendos. Oh gosh, they look so happy, but it’s way too early in the TN for these two.

Elisa excitedly tells Lucio that Damian asked her to marry him. Lucio looks like he just swallowed an anvil and we know what’s going on in his head. Could those kids really be half-siblings?

Kenia visits Padre Lupe to tell him she’s Kenia, sister of Gael. She swears that she is trustworthy. Note that the first sentence out of her mouth is a lie, she has no idea where Irritat-Ing is, hopefully she left town. The only thing Kenia knows about Gael’s dad is that he was an important guy who died a long time ago. Padre points out that Irritat-Ing only came back to La Ermita for money, and what about Kenia? For Gael, she says, he is the only family she has. II didn’t abandon her but she was never a good mother, Kenia was always envious of Gael even though he was left on the church steps. Nobody can know the shame of having the worst mother in the world, boo hoo. This chica knows how to turn on the waterworks. “Help me, Padre, to protect Gael from that woman.” Padre tells her that Gael left town. “Without me?” she gasps.

The slick urban tunes and magic letters tell us we are in the Ciudad de Mexico. Flor is shopping, or maybe just looking what with her credit card problems and all, and calling Tio Tightshirt to get the latest chisme on Dam and Elisa. He tells her to forget Dam; he’s a lost cause. “Don’t be so sure,” she perkily warns.

Alfonsina stalks in and asks to whom Paolo was talking. Is he sure it wasn't Carmina Bouvier again? The first time she called it was about Elisa, but why has she been calling since? In short, she believes he’s no longer interested in Elisa and that he and Carmina have something going on, exactly what she’s not sure. “¡Qué Bárbaro! Alfonsina, You have a big imagination. Now permiso.

Elisa wonders why Lucio hasn’t said anything about Dam’s proposal. She wants to know what he thinks. Lucio flashbacks to Toadhead’s nasty words, that he’s sure she is the progeny of Stef and Rosendo. Lucio shakes it off and says he knows she and Dam have a lot of pressures. Marriage is very serious and is not  the way to end their problems. She swears it’s different because they truly love each other. Really. “Well, you asked my opinion and that’s what I think,” he says, “I don’t agree that you and Dam should do this locura.

Ingrid is enjoying a cup of coffee when Pop! goes the Sleazel! Yep, it’s the hobbling harlot with hideous ojos come to wreak havoc on Ingrid’s down time. She wants her necklace, the one her husband spotted in Merida. “Your husband?” asks Ingrid, “Gabino told me that guy’s wife died with Rosendo.” Orangina says yes she died, but her sister was Augusto’s first wife. Ingrid laughs, “Do tell, what kind of customs does this town have, where people marry ex-husbands of their sisters?” “Widowed,” snaps Carmina, as if that makes a difference. And it doesn’t because she demands her necklace back. “Wrong, it was your sister’s, and Gabino says you gave it to him.”  Carmina grins,* (and by grins* I mean bares her white hot fangs behind slightly curled, over-glossed lips), and tells II to give it up, it belongs in the family. “Forget it,” laughs Ingrid, “this necklace, now wait for it, ES MIO!” Orangina closes in and grins*, “You don’t know me, but I promise that you’re going to remember me, y mucho!”

As the hapless harpy hobbles out she sees Kenia drive up. “What in the hell are you doing here?” she demands. Kenia says she was coming to see the woman that she and Don Augusto ran into in front of the bank. She imagines Orangina was there to see her about the necklace, ? Orangina’s pumpkin head nearly splits in two when she hears Augusto was in Merida with Kenia. Kenia’s on a roll, she says as long as Orangina is there could she give something back to Don Augusto? She pulls the belt out of her purse, Augusto left it in her house last night and forgot to take it when he left this morning. For the first time the Naran-Ho is speechless. Then Kenia throws her purse in the front seat of her car and goes into the blue house. Que? Who would leave their purse in the front seat of a car, window open?

Kenia brushes past Irritat-Ing and says she’s come for her things. She’s amazed at how many enemies mom has made in such a short time. Her advice, you got your money, now leave town and never come back!

Augusto visits the cenote hut to accuse Ramona of taking Stef’s jewels. (Dude, really? Have you seen her wearing them around town the past 15 years? Any expensive purchases? She is living in a hovel decorated with dried weeds.)  Predictably, she doesn’t know what he’s talking about. He blathers that when Stef left with Rosendo she took all her jewels, when she was discovered the jewels were gone and Ramona was the first at the scene. “You’re a nut job. I’m no thief.”  He doesn’t care if she has them, he just wants her to admit she took them. She says God knows she doesn’t have them, and she’s kept her mouth shut for many years. Fact is, Stef and Rosendo were returning back to La Ermita, not driving away like everyone thinks. Obtuseto says the key fact is that Stef was with Rosendo, and he stalks out of the hut.

Elisa sits on her bed enjoying her only pic of mom and Blanca. Lolita comes in and is excited to hear that Dam proposed marriage. He wants to keep it a secret for their odious parents. Lolita says matrimony is serious and shouldn’t be rushed into. Sigh, that’s what Elisa’s padrino said too. Lolita says if it’s really what Elisa wants to do she’ll help her. Besides, she can’t wait to see everyone’s reactions. (Hee, our Lolita isn’t quite the angel we like to think she is.)  The only one she’s worried about it Gael, but Elisa says he already left.

Poor Padre wanders around the lonely rectory holding Gael’s baseball gloves. Awww. Lucio comes to visit, he says Padre must feel very alone, empty, he knows how he feels. Padre says it hurts even more than when Fina sent Dam away as a child. Speaking of Dam, Lucio needs to ask Padre something very important. And then the sound went out and I missed the last part.

It’s night, and over at Hacienda Harangue-Oh Fina catches Dam trying to slip out of the house. She wants to talk. Remember when she and dad used to fight about Estefania Bouvier? The only difference is that now she and he are fighting about her daughter. (Lady, do you know how creepy that sounds? Listen to yourself.) Dam sighs, he won’t tolerate her being critical of Elisa. Fina presses on, can’t he remember the sadness they felt when Rosendo abandoned them for Elisa’s mom? Aaaand...here come the waterworks. The botoxed brow tries its hardest to furrow. Dam says she’s got to understand that neither he nor Elisa are at fault for what happened, and the sooner she gets that through her head easier it will be for all of them. Right. Like that’s ever gonna happen.
Gabino (giving us just a split-second ab shot, don’t blink) comes home to the love shack. Ingrid tells him she had a little visit from the Orange Push-up who wanted her sister’s necklace. He grunts and goes all crazy eyes while Irritat-Ing whines what are they going to do, because she doesn’t want that woman setting foot in this house. He’s on board with that. I think he says maybe they’ll return the necklace and get an even better one for Ingrid. Not sure.

The Brown Recluse sits in wait for her cuckolded cohabitant. “Where were you?” she demands. Assgusto says he was at the curandera’s demanding to know what happened to Stef’s jewels. Ramona told him that the night of the accident Stef and Ros were returning, not leaving. Orangina poohs and shrugs, why all of a sudden reveal that fact?  The key point is that Stef was doing it with Disgusto’s best friend Rosendo. So why don’t they stop obsessing about the past and concentrate on the present? She’s got him in her web so she pulls out the belt buckle. “Why don’t you tell me what in the hell you were doing spending the night at Kenia’s? Here is your damned belt!” He tries to explain the circumstances but she shrieks does he think she’s stupid? (A rousing YES! from viewerville.) He tells her ya basta with the tonterías, he’s going to bed.

Flor is at the awesome DF restaurant with the night fountain view. Enrique joins her and she says she was glad to get his call and to hear he’s in town. He gazes at her all puppy dog eyes. He knows she was really mad at him last time he saw her when Dan caught them kissing under his nose. She says Dam was important to her, they were supposed to get married, but it was a mistake. He tells her she knows how he feels about her. Is there any chance? She thinks that would be difficult and might be too big a sacrifice for him. He insists and lays a big one on her. Props to Enrique for going after what he wants, but I don’t see this going well for him, at least in the short run.

The church is lit and Damian goes inside. He takes a seat and prays. Padre comes in and Dam says he was waiting for Elisa but clearly she’s not going to show. But wait! That familiar and beautiful mariachi music tells us otherwise. Yep, there she is at the back. “Yes, I’ll marry you,” she says. Dam can’t believe it and they kiss while Padre watches, sighing and smiling.

Avances: Later with these. Sometimes the online previews give too much away. But it I have it on good authority that Dam Fine and Elisa get more than one day of ignorant bliss, bless their clueless little hearts.

Sylvia thanks for the recap. Your title was fun too. I loved that Braulio showed up after Lolita lit the candle. Yes he does have it bad for her still. Hopefully we'll see those two get together though it's going to be sad for him b/c he'll have to learn he's been living a lie with his wife.

I wonder if we'll see Gael's journey and how long he'll be away. Poor Pal. So glad no one saw the Doc being kind to her and misinterpret it. He does care for her like a daughter unlike other men his age with young women her age - I'm trying to go with the "he who shall not be named" vibe EJ gave us.

His conversation with Ramona was another pitiful demonstration of his inability to "see." As always, she was great.

Yes Ricky is in for a heartache. Flor still wants Dam.

Our preview were too quick for me to learn anything but it would be unusual for Dam & Elisa to get hitched this early.

Thanks Sylvia for getting this done early for us. I had a good laugh about the Lola and the candle. The candle tells the truth, but it wasn't what Lola was expecting. But I think Brau and Lola will have to wait a good while longer for their happy ending.

Same goes for Dam and Elisa. I am assuming Lucio told Padre Lupe about Augie's theory about Dam and Elisa being siblings. I hope the Padre doesn't believe a word of it. Someone is bound to stop this wedding.

So Gael left afterall. I'm surprised. What will bring him back? Kenia seemed really hurt that he left without her. I laughed out loud when Padre asked Kenia to be truthful with him, she promises, and then the first thing out of her mouth was a LIE! ("I don't know where Ingrid is.") But then the second thing out of her mouth was the truth. (Ingrid wants to use Gael. Don't trust her.) And who knows about the rest-- probably a mixture a truth, lies, half truths, and manipulations. What a great character.

Poor Paloma. I'm glad no one saw that little gesture of kindness from Doc Tovar. She needs a father figure in her life. And he needs a sane daughter.

Found this Hoy interview clip while looking for Familia finale interviews today. Armando Araiza (Horacio) is being interviewed by Galilea Montoya and Alan Tacher (big brother of Mark T./Gael). Armando's big brother Raul (Beto from Gancho) joins them about a minute in, and the two brothers are just hilarious telling stories of their childhood, and how they gave their mom Norma Herrera (Rebe Sr. in Familia/Alicia in Gancho) all kinds of trouble. The story of how they sold one of her show dresses to a transvestite in order to make money for a trip to Cancun- a transvestite who then appeared in the news wearing the famous dress- is particularly amusing.

By the way, Raul Araiza's nickname is Negro, and Armando's is Gordo.

Silvia:

Great recap, Cap'n.

I LOVE the title!

A deep voice intones..."And what, dear viewers, does the Love Candle hold for each of our favorites in the Pit of Passion? Watch and see."

I swear I heard that voice over in my head. LOL.

I think this following scene may be key in the future,

"Alfonsina stalks in and asks to whom Paolo was talking. Now permiso.”

I was so thrilled with this scene. I know my Black Widow girlfriend Alfonsina is onto Paolo now. He is an accomplished liar but she is no longer buying his program.

I also loved the scene between Irriitating Ingrid, Never Nominated for Mother of the Year, and Carmina the Rabid Blue-Eyed Wolf. Wow, in this battle of the baddies, Ingrid is the greediest but I think the blue eyed wolf could become deadly. She scares me.

Great recap, Cap'n for a fine episode. Thank you for recapping in the midst of your very busy life.

EJ

Best Sylviaism of the evening was...

"Augusto visits the cenote hut to accuse Ramona of taking Stef’s jewels. (Dude, really? Have you seen her wearing them around town the past 15 years? Any expensive purchases? She is living in a hovel decorated with dried weeds.)"

Gawd, that was funny, Cap'n.

EJ

Hi everyone, what fun, I get to read some comments before I head off to bed. I looked at the previews and like Karen said, they were quick and didn't say much except that Dam and Elisa "were caught between love and hate". Nothing new there.

Vivi, I felt so sorry for Paloma in this episode even though she wasn't in much of it. She is the best at pulling at one's heartstrings. I respect Gael for being truthful, but he could have been more tactful.

Great link! Thanks for sharing.

EJ, you called out two of my favorite scenes. I almost titled the Ingrid/Carmina scene "Clash of the Titans". Both those ladies are formidable. And Alfonsina, well she certainly simmers below the surface.

Sr. Cat Food visiting Ramona and accusing her of stealing Stef's jewelry was perhaps the most ludicrous scene we have seen yet. I wish she could turn him into a toad!

OK, I'm off to finish watching Vivi's link then on the bed.

Cap'n- I thought "Obtuseto" was inspired. Ain't it the truth? In the words of Bugs Bunny: What a maroon.

I didn't get to watch the first part of the episode, but you covered it so well that I don't need to.

Am I the only one thinking that the writers don't quite know what to do with Flor? How are they going to get her back into the story AND make her a rival for Dam? He's pretty much done with her. I can't fathom him coming back to her.

Thanks Sylvia--usual exceptional recap. I too missed some later bits and pieces when "Hey, mom" phone calls so most appreciatife for the detail.

Gael is gone...really gone. Me so sad :( The air boxing had me reaching for the kleenex. So I guess I get my thoughts played out that maybe he returns later as a success of some sort. But I don't want him gone that long....maybe we get a fast forward?

I can see QuiQui and Flo hooking up, him coming back to town with her in tow and she still pining after Dam though she's with him. Sorta of typical TN. But honestly, that girl thought she had it bad with Alfi as a mother-in-law?

Oh, Kenia, not smart to yank Guppy's chain, but boy that was fun when she whipped out the belt. Still can't figure out her game...so help me, they try to make it she actually has a thing for Assgusto...(But seriously, Carmina needs to lose the crutches, She only twisted her ankle for cripes sake. )

Sorry, but I"m still feeling a vibe of "let's hook Pal and the Doc together" vibe coming from the writers.

I know I'm suppose to be all happy for Elisa and Dam, but it still bums me out that all he had to do was offer a lame apology, promise to marry her and she caves in. But again, would go with the character for quickly forgiving even after accusations and being yelled at. Now what does Padre do?

Sylvia - You and your descriptions are the best!
- Begonia's voice as an ice pick
- like Lucio swallowed the anvil
- Elisa's heart shaped lips
- Tio Tightshirt
- Hobbling Harlot
Another enjoyable recap through and through.

Thank you!

Oh, forgot to say thanks Vivi for the link. Armand and Raul are so cute. My lousy Spanish didn't catch everything with them talking so fast, but loved the hijinks. Plus, sniff, made me nostalgic seeing those clips of Armand in Llena. I miss Brandon!

Oh Cap'n! another snarky Gem!!

Casa Castigo… LOL!! PURRRRFECT!!!

they can go view her tierras. What are they going to drive? I thought Gael took his truck? LOL!! Good question! I can see Lucio huffing and puffing to get up the mountain…

(No! BegoneYa’s going to walk in!)… ditto! That’s what was in my mind too.

“this necklace, now wait for it, ES MIO!”
“You don’t know me, but I promise that you’re going to remember me, y mucho!”
Does anyone else think II just signed her electric chair sentence? Or is she a good match for having a evilqueens muddfight contest ref’d by Gabino?
or as EJ called them .. On the blue corner we have... the Never Nominated for Mother of the Year, and on the red corner ... Carmina the Rabid Blue-Eyed Wolf.

For the first time the Naran-Ho is speechless…
But another one that just signed her death by mistaken-mistress-identity sentence…

Obtuseto … (as in narrow minded idiot… I like it!)

And then the sound went out and I missed the last part.
You didn’t miss anything. The scene cut out there.

Orange Push-up..
Orange… as far as I know, the only actress who can pull an orange dress and looks AMAZING in bright orange (think ripe mandarins) is Sylvia Navarro…

Vivi, Padre and Kenya... she is sort of wabbling between truths and lies... i hope she doesn't get caught in her own lies that will cost her dearly...
btw, does she know that Gael's dad IS Rosendo? I think so so she lied about that too...

Cap'n.
I respect Gael for being truthful, but he could have been more tactful.
ITA 1000%
LOVED the air boxing scene... awwwww!!!

Sr. Cat Food visiting Ramona and accusing her of stealing Stef's jewelry was perhaps the most ludicrous scene we have seen yet. I wish she could turn him into a toad!
again, Totally agree!... good thing Ramona held her ground...

Armando Araiza... Horacio... as 'Gordo'??? LOL!!!

daisynjay,
But honestly, that girl (Flo) thought she had it bad with Alfi as a mother-in-law? (and end up with Be-Gone-Ya!) ... jaja.. good one!

Sylvia: Loved your description of Ramona's so-called casa.

Biggest surprise: Enrique packing his bags and dissing Begoña.

Can't believe that Lucio actually believes that Augusto's version of Elisa's paternity has any ring of truth.

I thought Lucio's truck was an old junker, but, Gael left La Ermita in a new looking late model pick up.

Ooops - Kenia did not tell the whole truth to Padre. She denied, through tears, that she knew the whereabouts of Ingrid. Could she still be harboring thoughts of cutting herself in on Ingrid's grift? Like extorting money from Alfonsina when she finds out the name of Gael's father?

no the pickup looked at least 10 yrs old (chevy?), just well taken care of by Lucio... and still a four door.. since they took Kenya to clinica in back seat...

I think Kenya needs to make everyone else think that she has little or nothing to do with Ingrid's plan. otherwise everyone will diss her as just an accomplice of Ingrid's. And she will be left with no allies, none on the good guys side, not II either. Besides, she knows II would be capable of anything, even dissing her into the next life.

I believe Kenia does know that Rosendo is Gael's dad, since she knows who paid off Ingrid to leave town and keep her mouth shut.

Daisynjay- I wonder if your two boys are as big of troublemakers and Armando and Raul seemed to be as boys. Seems like they gave their mama Norma many headaches.

Martaivette- Apparently, Armando was a fat baby and toddler, hence Gordo. The nickname stuck, but it certainly doesn't fit his physique now! LOL! Not sure why Raul is nicknamed Negro when both he and Armando are dark skinned/dark haired. I guess because he came first.

Thank you so much, Sylvia! Your recaps are so helpful and funny! I loved the "Hobbling Harlot" and your definition of Carmeany's smile.

I'm soooooo happy that Carmeany didn't de-rail the 8:00 church meeting. When I heard him say "Meet me at 8 if your answer is yes, if you don't show I will never bother you again" I almost couldn't watch the episode because I pictured Cheet-ho tying her up, trapping her, anything to keep her from Dam Fine.

A belated thank you to Marta, EJ, Blue Lass, DaisynJay, Vivi and anyone else I left out for clearing up that Episode 7 pearl payoff mystery in such detail. Wow! Thank you soooo much!

I think the crutches must somehow make Tangel-ho more menacing/obnoxious/weird for the writers to leave them in so long. Because I, too, keep wondering why she's still hobbling.

Lastly, Gabino seems to be the common thread between all the mean women. They all use him in one way or another. It will be interesting when their evil desires conflict with one another. Who will Gabino choose? Ingrid for love? Fina for her power? Carmeany for her weird hold over him?

Thanks again, Sylvia! You are such a talent!

Katy

Cheet-ho... ROFLOL!! That's a GREAT ONE, Katy!!

Lastly, Gabino seems to be the common thread between all the mean women. They all use him in one way or another. It will be interesting when their evil desires conflict with one another. Who will Gabino choose? Ingrid for love? Fina for her power? Carmeany for her weird hold over him?
great point... Gabino seems to not only have influence in both directions with all 3 of the main villainesses here. but he is tied to many of the other subplots... he is Pal and Silv's dad both of whose families are holding his paternity from them...
he also is responsible for the burning of the green house and Nina's death... and he is probably the one carrying the biggest bag of secrets from many folks in this town...

Sabine Moussier has had past health issues. I wonder if it is rearing its ugly head again hence the muletas.

sorry meant Vicente.. .why do i keep calling him Silvestre? beats me. lol

I read somewhere that Sabine was I mures on the set while filming. I think the crutches are for realz.

EJ

Sara, I think you are correct. I believe Sabine Moussier has to use the crutches and that they were written into the plot like EJ says. She has had recurring meniscus problems and I read that recently she has had to use a wheelchair because of pain in her knees and legs. It must be terrible, and kudos to the director and producers for keeping her in the show.

I agree with Katy, her muletas make her even more menacing and terrifying. She basically has two weapons with her at all times.

I didn't think that Kenia knows exactly who Gael's dad is, but maybe Vivi is right, that she has connected the dots and figured out exactly why Alfonsina is paying Ingrid off.

daisynjay, I was also thinking that Flo would likely use Enrique as a tool and possibly come back to town with him to slowly chip away at Dam and Elisa's relationship. She doesn't yet know that they are destined to implode soon so that could be very convenient for her.

Ah Vivi... too funny. And yep, my boys had their moments. But most were harmless enough, well except for the incident of using a brick piece as a baseball, cracked head and a hospital run. But I'm betting she loved every minute of it, as I did. They look like she did a wonderful job...love their banter and affection.

Love your observation on Gabino, Katy. He and Padre seem to hold the cards in a way--one for good, one for "evil". Now who spills first?

Thanks Sylvia, this is great... I always get such a kick out of your clever recaps.

Gabino seemed truly alarmed about the necklace... he had almost a panicked look on his face when Ingrid told him about her encounter with Carmina.

Gael must not have played a lot of baseball. That glove looked almost brand new.

I thought that Kenia did not know that Rosendo is Gael's dad, but then how could she not? Why else would Alfonsina have given Ingrid that check?

My favorite scene was the return of the belt. The look on Carmina's face was wonderful.

The candle is becoming a recurring theme. A guy always shows up when Lolita lights it.

"I wish she could turn him into a toad!"

Sylvia, I'm sure that she has the ability but just doesn't use it for slight annoyances.

Carlos

Stuff we learned in last night's episode:

Orangina learned Disgusto spent the night at Kenia's and even went to Merida with her.

Disgusto learned Rosie & Steffy were headed TOWARDS town, not away from it.

Ramona learned she has extreme self-control for not knocking Augusto into next Jueves for accusing her of being a thief.

Begoña learned that Enrique just doesn't give a $#!t about what she has to say anymore.

We learned that Kenia is indeed a shady liar, for telling a priest to trust her and then lying to him in the next sentence.

Sylvia, great recap with vocabulary help and fun.  Just a couple of my favorites:

On a marriage between Damian and Elisa " Really? Where in heck have you been for the past 52 episodes?"  Clearly Damian doesn't know his mom like we do!

Also, "Tio  Tightshirt"   That name is the best ever for Paulo.

Well, here we go again, on Augusto; when he talked to Lucio about the Elisa's paternity, I felt that A was very pained about the situation and was confiding in Lucio, not using hateful words to malign his daughter. Of course, that's just me.

Our little brujita vieja Ramona could clear Stephania's reputation in a second by just repeating what the dying woman clearly said, " I had to stop them!" That,  combined with the info that she has chosen to reveal, the direction of the car, makes a more complete picture.  When Ramona tried to sell her bird help to the children early on, 100 pesos, she annoyed me a bit! Of course, if the mysteries were solved, we wouldn't be enjoying our online Caray community. Ha!

I'm not sure where they are going with Paloma and Dr. T. The casual kisses are unusual to say the least. Whatever it is, it's OK, both are deemed good guys by the writers.

Oh I cannot take credit for Cheet-ho! I wish I could remember which blogger/recapper came up with that one but I just copy the genius I read on this blog every day. I have to confess I shared all Carmeany's nicknames with my 15 year old son and his fave was Agent Ho-range. He's in Spanish 3 in high school and I figure it's all for the greater good! He still says "LAR-GA-TEEEE" imitating stroke addled Paulino in Mi Pecado!

That belt scene was a doozy because it showed that Kenia is nobody's fool. She's got Carmeana in her cross-hairs and shot her right where it hurt.

Sylvia and others: You are very kind to Sabine. However, she didn't appear to have any miniscus issues when she wrapped her legs around Paolo just for fun a couple of episodes ago.

Pasofino, maybe the pain is relieved when she goes horizontal?

I wish we had a list of all Carmina's nicknames. Didn't Anon207 start one one time? Maybe at the end we'll try to remember them all because I'm sure at least one or two more will pop up.

i wonder if they should start a MATT (Moms against Telling the Truth) organization at La Ermita...
founding members: Alfie, Cheet-Ho, GossipQueen, Irritat-Ing, Ton-EETAA
honorary members: kenya, Flo
these women say so many lies people around them must be spinning their heads trying to figure out when they are lying and when they're not.

I have the list of nicknames saved on my computer at home, I need to update it with some new additions.

Anon207, I knew it! Thanks.

Marta, great idea about MATT. To be fair, they should also start PATT, Papas against Telling the Truth. Let's see, there is Rosendo, Augusto, Gabino for sure. Doc Tovar fessed up so he's no longer in the club. Although I like Padre I fear he's got to be in the club too, unless all his secrets are bound by confession, but I'm not sure they are. Honorary member: Paolo.

Hmmm...not quite as many lying papas as there are moms are there?

The beginning scene with Gael saying goodbye and he and Padre doing their cute little boxing moves was made even sadder by that music. It was a sniffer.

I had to laugh, Sylvia, when Begonia walked in with her shrill voice. It *does* sound like an ice pick to the head. I wonder if that is the last thing Trotsky ever heard on his ill-fated trip to Mexico?

Maybe Damian can start looking for a place away from his mom and her dad to live, and maybe in doing so he'll stumble upon who owns that little blue house.

IMO Elisa would look so much better without those false eyelashes.

Sylvia:

The good Father (and others of his persuasion) may have developed the same habit as have many mental health professionals—habitual confidentiality. If you are told many things in confidence it may be easier to just keep your mouth shut about other people's secrets.

How about our Kenia? I cannot fathom this character! I love the young actress, but what is the character getting out of taunting Carmina. I think the tiny Brown Recluse is going to bite Kenia in the butt.

Vivi, I love your analysis of the character's complexity. As you said a couple of days ago, she is both a good truth teller and a fine liar. She is unscrupulous but she has a heart.

I hope I am wrong but I really think that now Carmina's gonna get Kenia, if her unnatural Mother doesn't do it first. I see Carmina as a poisoner...

How sad if Sabine is really having such severe pain she has to walk on crutches! I hope she gets well. Carmina (the character) doesn't look healthy to me. She seems so tiny and browned and sort of shriveled. Maybe the actress's own physical pain is showing through in her portrayal of this dreadful character.

R La O:

I have a questions for you, as a former hippie in awe of really good makeup and physical artifice, I sincerely want to know—How can you tell her eyelashes are pretend?

I thought she was just blessed with killer lashes, like, say, Jose Ron. With a puzzled smile...

Abrazos a ti,

EJ

It's quite obvious that Elisa is rocking false lashes, especially when she is looking downward you can see the strip.

Yes, Anonymous is correct. You can see the strip. Just notice when she looks down. Does that mean she only sports the glue-on kind, and doesn't have the woven kind?

Jose Ron does have beautiful eyelashes. Although they were over-shadowed by Chema's lashes on CME. Remember us all wanting Butterfly Kisses from Chema?

Elisa's false eyelashes are very thick and dark in a stark rectangular shape. They end very abruptly on the sides and don't extend quite far enough or taper off. Super fake looking. She should at least get BETTER fake lashes if just mascara isn't enough for her.

I was very sad when Gael left. He and Paloma have such great chemistry! They're way better than our heroes. I'm sure he'll be back before too long, though.

Sylvia, thanks for the recap! They've been keeping me up to speed, although now that UFCS is over I think I'll be able to keep up on watching this more.

Thanks, Anon, R la O and Julia, for the make-up update. I am going to look up woven eyelashes on Google Well, you learn something everyday on this blog!

Julia, so good to see you here. It must be a relief to be free of 2-hour recap duty on UFCS. Thanks again for doing that, and for joining us over here. We have missed you.

EJ

IMO Elisa would look so much better without those false eyelashes.

ITA Rosemary... the fake lashes were getting on the way of her looking at Damian close up ...

I agree on general concensus...
Gael needs to come back asap, his chemistry with Paloma is much better than the leads...
and
Kenya is the most interesting character right about now..

Ah! also loved Tio tight-shirt!! LOL!

Vivi, thanks for the link, waiting to get home to enjoy...

Carlos, I just whipped up a batch of Lovely Linda's Corn Relish for our on-the-water grill-out tomorrow. I'll be thinking you and Linda fondly while I'm stuffing my face.

EJ, I know what you mean about confidentiality. The other night a friend of mine was sharing some information with me that must remain confidential until it is published. When I got home I found I was unable to share any of the conversation for fear I would reveal the secret details, sigh. I imagine in your line of work you just keep mum about most everything.

I agree about our tiny brown recluse. If only Kenia knew what we know about her she wouldn't taunt Carmina. Kenia might get whacked upside the head with a crutch.

Padre's confidentiality oath has irked me through this whole thing. How many people have to suffer because non-Catholic NaranHo blabbed to Padre in a confessional? He has not looked out for the greater good. I am not saying he has to blab everything to everyone, just drop hints here and there. Like... I wonder why the car was returning instead of leaving? or I wonder if Estafonia said anything to Ramona before she died? I know...I know professional he musn't, but personally how can he watch this train wreck that continues to plague La Cleavage and her family?

After reading the recap, I figured I had better go watch this episode. Thanks Sylvia! I have missed several these past two weeks because traveling.

Wow - quite an episode this one. The goodbye Gael and Paloma was amazing. I just can't believe how good Mark Tacher is at playing Gael, and yes he and Livia Brito really light up the screen as a couple.

Just finished watching. Awesome episode! Looking forward to seeing tonight's episode now.

Thank you for the great snarky recap, Sylvia! Elisa's boobs look bigger, every week. Ack.

Kenia cannot possibly end up as a happy camper by the end of this telenovela. She's telling too many lies. Anvils!

Did Gael drive off in Lucio's truck? How will Lucio get around? Did Gael buy it? Apparently, I missed something about that truck.

Flo looked like she had one or two shopping bags, and I wondered where the money is coming from. Maybe being "broke" is a relative term? I'm broke if I have $10 to my name. Maybe los Landucci are broke if they have $100k to their name?

Lucio gave his truck to Gael and told him if he comes back to be sure to return it with a full tank. I don't know what he's driving now. I'm wondering about that myself.

I thought Lucio was going to ride a horse around town since he doesn't have wheels. Isn't that what they do in Ermita?

dang!! its only been 1.75 or so episodes without MY GAEL... yes, sorry Loopy, he is MY GAEL!!

on another note...
boy are those anvils if i ever heard any!
first we have Damian telling Lucio that only death would prevent him from showing up to his wedding...
then Elisa noticing Damian has a very rare blood type (yeah i inherited it from my father... hint hint... who else would have that blood type around town)...

then someone tells the only guy who is fast grabbing a shotgun...
and all the anvils are confirmed with the previews for Monday.

have to say Lucio is playing it pretty smart (gathering some support with Loopy and Inmundo and then slowing Damian down, or trying to anyway)... but at the same time trying to get to the bottom of it all by having Inmundo order extra blood tests to determine if Elisa and Damian have same father... not bad for a Senior Padrino!!

"Lucio gave his truck to Gael and told him if he comes back to be sure to return it with a full tank."
I totally missed that scene. Jet lag has been the pits. Wow, how many people let you borrow their vehicle, and say 'if' you come back, leave the tank full?!?

Hi Sylvia...Hope you are having a marvelous Memorial Day weekend, out on the water, with Lovely Linda's corn relish and whatever else your crew brings.

Just getting to your recap (Friday was a bit of a nightmare).

Like everyone else, loved "Tio Tightshirt" and especially your description of Carmina's grin:
"bares her white-hot fangs behind slightly curled over-glossed lips". That was a wonder of a description!

Quite wistful watching Gael and the Padre's shadowboxing and then the Padre's sad vigil in Gael's room and the placement of the baseball glove on his pillow...almost like the placement of flowers on the grave of a dear departed one. Very touching. (I was so moved, Carlos, I certainly didn't notice the glove was barely worn!)

Happy Memorial Day all...enjoy, drive safe if you're traveling and come back happy, well-fed and rested. (And two out of three ain't bad.)

Or as the saying goes: Eat, Drink and Be Merry for tomorrow you may be in Utah
