El Mundo de Telemundo, Week of May 14, 2012: Discuss Amongst Yourselves
Just in case you're interested and you have access to the channel...
MUN2 (or "MunDos"), Telemundo's bilingual baby brother, will be airing Ojo por ojo starting May 21 at 10pm central time. This 2010 Telemundo/RTI Colombia production has been shown in Latin America but this will be its premiere in the United States. The screenplay is based on Laura Restrepo's novel, El leopardo al sol. (Restrepo also wrote the novel on which Flor salvaje was based.) The cast of Ojo por ojo includes Miguel Varoni, Gaby Espino, Gregorio Pernia and Carmen Villalobos. Might be interesting, no?
Labels: relaciones, telemundo, valiente
An episode of farewells, and some new revelations. The first chink appears in Andrés' plan, but he knows what to do.
Santiago takes Armando's ashes, holds Bea in his arms at the edge of a cliff, on a beautiful sunny day, and returns the ashes to the cool waters below. Ana gives him comfort.
Back at his home, Julia discovers a note from Santi. It tells her that he's leaving her. She can have the apartment. He's going to live with Ana. He'll be there to help with her artificially inseminated pregnancy, to save Bea, but that's all. Julia is furious, rips the note to shreds, kicks things down. Never! she vows.
At the beach, Miranda and Mauricio comfort each other. They kiss again, both realizing that although they may not be together, they'll always love each other. Mau vows revenge, but Miranda urges him to think of positive things, and not let this tragedy harm his spirit.
Mau goes home, and gets ready for the funeral. Most of the characters are there, dressed in black, as Mauricio gives a moving speech about how his Dad was the bravest person he ever knew. Even Andrés the pig is there, purposely acting aggrieved, when we know he had Manuel killed!
JP gets home from his meeting with Olivares, and is livid to find that Miranda isn't there. He's told of Manuel's death, and when Miranda comes back, she denies being with Mau, but he can smell Mau on her, and barely controls himself.
Victor puts the gun from the robbery in the safe at Monica's apartment. Yesi, crying is leaving, telling him about Manuel being killed. He convinces her to stay by giving her the keys, she can live there now, not in her trailer. Unfortunately, she doesn't see through this, and happily agrees.
Henry finally wakes up from his drug induced stupor, and when told that Manuel was killed, and they're blaming Gonzalo, says, no you can't do that! Gonzalo is the one who killed Rafael. If he gets blamed, he'll talk, and we'll all go down! Victor warns Andrés, who tells Pedro, call off the dogs, we'll pin on someone else. Pedro says it may be too late.
He's right, as Bob has discovered Manuel Blanco's wallet in Gonzalo's room, and being a friend of cops, insists on turning it over to the cops, despite Benita's pleas.
Leo stands up to his father, telling him never to touch his mother again. Andrés roars, and who's going to stop me, you? The two get into a vicious fight, Leo being hurt and bloodied, but he hurts Andrés somewhat, too. Andrés leaves to "take care of business."
At a warehouse, Gonzalo, bloody from when Andrés beat him, talks to another young guy, also tied up, who tells him they'll never get out of there alive. This whole problem was caused by some drug runner who killed the cousin of a big fish!
At the funeral, each person drops a flower in Manuel's grave. In the distance, we see that Miranda has come with Mau, standing away, by there to give support. Olivia points her out to Carmen, who loses it, rushes over, telling her how DARE you appear, you're the one who caused everything! If my son hadn't gotten involved with you, my husband would never have lied to me, we wouldn't have split, he wouldn't have gone to stay with Mau in the trailer, he wouldn't have been murdered! Miranda can only stand mute. JP says they'd better leave.
Sofía sees Cassius at the funeral. Where have you been? He tells her he came to support Mau, but is leaving for New York tomorrow. First, however, he has a little unfinished business. We see him eye Leo. After his friends beat up Gonzalo, I'm guessing Leo is next in line for payback.
And payback's a bitch. Gonzalo did a lot of evil things early on, giving drugs to Sebastian's brother, abusing Liz, taunting Cassius. But now he's tied up and bloody in a warehouse, and Andrés appears, telling him, change of plans, buddy! Apparently you know too much. You think you can bring ME down! This is what happens to snitches. He pulls out a gun, and shoots Gonzalo DEAD!!
But there may be some payback for Andrés too. Victor tells Pedro if the heat gets too much, they'll make sure Andrés gets blamed for everything. NO one's going to get the best of Victor!!!!
We shall see, Victor, we shall see :)
Hey Relaciones watchers! I'm sure there are some of you out there. Nobody is commenting on Hombre's great recaps. Let's show some appreciation. See "The Care and Feeding of Recappers" on the main blog page. I know that if I write a recap an no one comments on it, I am very disappointed.
Ángela is furious at JM about the suggestive photos taken while he and Gloria were in the sack together. She rightly rounds on him for lying to her about how innocent the evening was. If he’d told her about the fake coupling when she asked about the evening, it would have been better.
Willy calls Sam, drunk and a bit hysterical. He tells her he discovered that Despicable Dad had offered Cecilia money to seduce him. They had a fight and he killed his father. DD doesn’t deserve Willy. In spite of everything, Willy loves his father and kisses him, remorseful for, he thinks, having killed him.
Manuel explains himself to the Rat. He’s been an honest cop up until now, risking his life for nothing. But he’s tired of it and just then Luis Martinez crossed his path. Luis actually shows some humanity. He’s grateful, and tells Manuel Flores that what he did for him has no price. Manny replies that everything has a price, and they’ll find it together. A pretty girl named Carmen Juárez shows up. She’s a friend of Manuel’s. Manny reminds Luis that he’s Ramon Mendoza. The Rat looks interested in Carmen.
As we certainly all knew, Despicable Dad is not dead. He tries to manipulate Willy, asking if he’s got that sad face because he failed to kill him.
Emma has a talk with her niece. [Interesting coincidence: I get an email once a day called Spanish word of the day. Today’s was pelirrojo. And they used it in a sentence describing someone as pecoso y pelirrojo. So I can now describe Génesis in Spanish – a freckled, red-haired girl.] Emma says she’s going to exhibit her paintings in Bernardo del Castillo’s gallery. Génesis wants to know why Peralta can have two girlfriends, one carrying his child and the other being Emma. She also tells her aunt she wants to go back to school and live a normal life.
Ángela correctly says that Gloria sent her the video.
Manuel tells the Rat he can’t go out on the street. He’s going to get him a chapa de policía (badge) and a license. [And this badge is going to completely change his appearance?]
Willy tells Sam what Bernardo did, paying Cecilia to seduce him. What he should have said and didn’t is that he tried and tried to get her to believe there was nothing going on when she saw the video of Cecilia stripping. Since she punched him out and told him she NEVER wanted to see him again, she was partially responsible for his fall from grace.
The tiresome Reptile shows up to see how things are going with Gloria’s plan to separate JM and Ángela. While she’s there the new maid asks JM if he got that letter she left for him all right. He looks blank, but is too distracted to follow up on it. Emma tells JM [crap, right in front of the Reptile] that Génesis wants to return to school. The Reptile pipes up right away that this is a good idea. For the first of several times this episode she says: Disculpenme si yo meta. When has she NOT interfered?
Sam speaks to Despicable Dad. He tells her that Willy tried to kill him, and it was because he told Willy that he didn’t deserve Sam and that he, Despicable Dad, loves her more than Willy! Sam tells him not to waste his time. There is no possibility she’ll have a relationship with him. And, by the way, why did you pay Cecilia to seduce Willy. He neatly evades answering her, telling her that Willy will never be a one-woman man.
Nelly has a box of baby things that have been knitted by all of Peralta’s family members. Smirky Gabriel is there. Nelly tells him she can’t keep lying to Pablo’s mother. Gab says, OK, then, you’ll have to lose the baby in a spectacular fashion.
Flores approaches Gloria at the cop shop. He introduces himself and says that he’s going to be her partner on the Arroyo case – orders from above. He tells her he’s going to be closely involved with the search for Luis Martinez. She looks like she’s sucking on lemons.
Gloria then brings Flores to the Arroyo house. Ángela shows the sexy photos to Flores, glaring at Gloria. Flores snarks: Wow, Ferreira, a new police procedure! Gloria talks fast. She insists that last night was an attempt to capture Luis. She goes on with her next big plan. She wants Manuel Flores to spend day and night with Ángela in case the Rat comes after her. This neatly accomplishes two things: getting Flores out of her hair and further separating JM and Ángela. Flores goes along with it, saying he’ll move right in. Ángela is reluctant. Sammy is there also, and Flores gives her the eye.
Sammy comes to talk with Cecilia. She accuses her of making love with Willy. Ceci smirks that Willy is irresistible. She denies that she was paid to do it. Sam pulls a gun on her, and the whole truth comes pouring out of Cecilia.
DD turns on Cecilia, telling her over the phone to forget about the managerial position. She’ll die a mediocre secretary.
DD then works on Estupida Estela some more. He tells her he’ll get someone to fake the DNA results Sam and Angie want, and he’s doing it because he cares for her. [I don’t understand why he doesn’t want Sam and Ángela to know they’re half sisters. Is it just because he’s a villain and that’s what villains do?]
Gabriel, who is the smarmiest guy in the whole cast, tells Pablo he’ll be spending lots and lots of time with Emma now, because he’s her press agent. Peralta fires back that Sam will also be with the two of them. [Sam is Emma’s new bodyguard.]
Vicente is kissing some very attractive female when the Reptile marches into his office. After the woman leaves, the Reptile makes a crack about his stooping to get it on with a secretary. Vicente replies that she’s the new head of IT. The Reptile says he has to help her. She needs him to find out everything he can about Gloria Ferreira. I guess Vicente is the only computer wizard in the cast.
Emma and Nelly are coming downstairs at the same time, and Nelly manages to step in front of Emma’s feet and then go tumbling down one of the patented staircases of doom.
Ángela has gone to the hospital for the DNA test with Sam. Flores is with her. She gets a text from the Rat, saying he’s watching her and describing her clothing.
Vicente just pretends to do a computer search. He gets up saying he has a meeting to go to.
Flores and the Rat are talking and the Rat tells him that he wants Ángela to suffer for a while and then he’ll kill her with his bare hands. I guess my theory that Flores is really a good cop trying to bring down Greedy Gloria is out the window.
Emma pleads with Peralta, saying she didn’t have anything to do with Nelly’s fall. Of course, this being a TN, one episode after declaring his unconditional love, he gives her a suspicious look. A crooked doctor coaches Nelly about what to say. And then he goes out to tell Emma and Peralta that she lost the baby. Peralta looks daggers at Emma, while Gabriel smirks in the background. Later, when Emma tries to put her arms around Pablo, he backs off, saying he needs time.
The Reptile got an anonymous letter, rather like the one JM got. He grabs it out of her hand, and she goes ballistic. She later tells Gloria that she got a letter asking for money. She’s completely freaked. “What? A million to you, and now millions to someone else? Someone saw us.”
Manuel, looking sinister, chloroforms a sleeping Ángela.
Willy moves out of his father’s house. DD tells Ofelia that what he did to his son just showed his nature. He would have gone for Cecilia anyway. He laughs and says Willy will be back. Ofelia doesn’t think so.
Emma is dressed to go to a party with Gabriel in a lacy, off the shoulder dress. Peralta says she can’t go out looking that way. Wow!!!! Nelly comes down the stairs and tells them she lied. She never was pregnant. I didn’t expect that!
JM comes in and tries unsuccessfully to wake Ángela. On her arm is written: Mío o de nadie.
The Reptile and Greedy Gloria dig where they buried Luis and discover that he’s not in there, while said Luis, a mask over everything but his eyes, looks on. There’s a note inside.
Willy is NOT giving up. He comes to see Sam at the Arroyo house. She’s waiting for Emma to get ready to go to that party. When she hears he’s there, she grabs Manuel Flores, who is sitting at the kitchen table, and plants a big kiss on him for Willy to see.
NovelaMaven, I already have a reminder on my computer to record Ojo por Ojo. I love Varoni. I didn't realize it was from a Laura Restrepo novel. That definitely piques my interest.
I second Jean's comment. Hombre de Misterio has been doing a fabulous job describing this very complicated novela. Comments would be very appreciated by him, I'm sure. If you read the care and feeding of recappers post, you'll see that it states that the simplest comment is all that's necessary.
Hombre, I can't believe they killed off Gonzalo!! I never thought I'd be able to follow a novela from just the recaps! But you've accomplished that.
Super recap, Novelera. Well, I certainly was wrong about who Flores is. The actor looked familiar and it took me a while to figure out that he played Pedro del Monte on Los Herederos del Monte.
It seems like we've got way too many corrupt cops. Aren't there any supervisors or anything?
Oh, those baby-killing stairs!
It was pretty lucky for Flores that Ángela didn't wake up when he chloroformed her.
Thanks for the recap, Novelera. I think we now have 3 Herederos brothers, JM, Willy and Manuel.
I was also surprised that Nelly admitted she never had a baby. After all that. In a perfect world, Gabriel would be found out, and the doctor would be fired. But I'm not sure this is a perfect world.
RELACIONES PELIGROSAS:
Thanks, Novelera and Jean for the words of encouragement. Novelera, we're not REALLY sure Gonzalo is dead, as we just saw the gun pointed at him from point blank range go off. They didn't actually show Gonzalo's body. But they sure made it look like an execution. I'll keep you posted.
I will definitely start to watch Ojo por Ojo, but I may or may not last long. I have had a hard time finding anything I want to watch lately. But I have happily spent my time watching La Hija del Mariachi for the third time, and now I am watching Sabe Mas Diablo for the second time.
The cast for Ojo por Ojo looks really good, but it also looks like there will be mucho violencia.
thanks Hombre!
not really watching but love reading your summaries,
on Gonzalo, when Andrés moved behind him and fired,
I was thinking he shot the other guy,
I know Gonzo is a goner, but he wouldn't pass up terrorizing him a little longer, would he?
btw, I'm a little slow, but it just clicked the other day who the actor is that plays Andrés, Jimmy Bernal, who had a part in Más sabe el diablo and was the gringo in Doña Bárbara. Since then I've been fascinated watching him do this role, it's beyond creepy,
like even the way he kicks his victims, where he leads with his body and follows through with the kick, adds to the drama. His actions all seem to be a bit off timed, but deliberate, and final, interesting to watch him create these scenes.
and such extrordinary acting by others around him like Gonzalo (Oscar Priego), and Clementina (Dad Dager),
I think Gonzalo is the only guy that's both evil and tough enough to take on Andrés,
and maybe get the girl.
Corazon Valiente,
once more, a most excellent summary novelera!
and these ones must be tough to do the way they throw so much out there every night,
I think that was epi 47, so we have a ways to go, as in how weird can this get,
the two police, Gloria and Manuel, each doing evil unknown to the other, sure is a twist,
and like Jean pointed out, why don't they have to answer to anyone?
strange to watch Fernanda take a back seat, but annoying that she is now everywhere, trying to get back into the action, funny that Vicente dissed her,
and now Luis will be getting a police badge too? hmmm,
You know as heartless and menacing as he has been he has mostly just been hanging out working on getting his family together while it's Fernanda that has been killing everyone. Has he actually killed anyone, well maybe JM's bodyguard Diego, if that was him.
and I don't know if Gloria is connected to Isabel, as in Luis told her about Fernanda killing her before the girls then exchanged sexual favors.
Deb, I think Fernanda is the one who murdered Diego. However, Luis was certainly an accomplice at the death of Isabel. I am so confused by the Manuel character; surely we don't need any new villains? This show is getting top-heavy with bad guys. We need to see more of Arturo the dog to balance out the good-evil thing...
J in Oregon
I also thought it was interesting that the Reptile was taking a back seat to Gloria. I wonder, since we are only at episode 47 as Deb says, if we will switch villains like when Ana Layevska was killed off in the middle of Mi Corazón Insiste.
I just want to say thank you for the recaps. I've started going back to school, and I do not have any time to watch like I use to. Your recaps have helped me keep up. I don't think Gonzo is dead either. His character is deeply flawed but I like that about my characters. This show is very good. I wonder that rating for the DVR would be. Maybe the numbers that they are using are incorrect. Nieslen has never counted people using their DVR's. -- Nia
Thanks to all the new commenters. I agree, thinking about it again, maybe Andrés shot the other guy, not Gonzalo. After all, what was the point of the other guy's even BEING there? And he didn't have a name. Characters like that have short life spans in novelas.
And I also agree that Gonzalo may be critical in the fight against Andrés, Victor, et al. I also think Olivia will play a key role. I'm very worried about Yesenia, but I hope she's a survivor.
BTW, to clear up any confusion, here are a few people with dual names:
Elizabeth: I call her Liz, but Leo calls her Eli.
Clementina: (Leo's Mom). I call her Nena, which is what Andrés calls her (the credits have both names)
Benita: (Gonzalo's Mom). He also calls her Jefa, and the credits list both names.
Leo: Many characters call him Max.
Gualtémoc, or maybe Gualtámoc: This is the Mexican drug guy, who is JP's brother. I call him Walt.
He is very cute, and he does the puppy dog look well too.
JM and Peralta also attractive guys. Enjoy all comments.
Thanks to all!
Hombre, thank you. I can't seem to stay awake for this, but I have always anxiously awaited your recaps. It's been great the few times I do catch it - like last Friday - I was up to speed and knew exactly what was going on. Thank you very much
I am terribly confused by this TN. I got lost with the "let's make out episode", and then daddy dearest is not dead. I stayed yawning on this one. What happened? Is everyone that appears on that show have to be bad? They should have definitely killed off DD just to see how the Reptile was going to cope. I am sure DD is protecting her behind the scenes, and quite frankly his drooling over Sam is nauseating. Angela's mom, wow! what have they done with that character, just simply terrible.

I agree with everyone else, thank you so much for the wonderful recaps. I haven't had as much time as I would like to watch this novela, but you make it far easier to actually know what's going on when I actually have time to watch.
I hope Gonzalo's not dead. He was definitely a douchebag, but I was looking forward to some redemption for him, maybe with cracking the drug ring.
I know Cassius just showed back up-- way back when the show first started, they showed some previews where he was dating Mau's sister. Do you guys think that's still going to happen, or did the writers scratch that? I personally would love to see it. I think it's great how this show incorporates so many modern themes.
Willy just laughs at Sam’s planting a kiss on Manuel Flores in the kitchen, saying she grabbed the first imbécil nearby. Manuel doesn’t like this one bit.
JM tries to wake Ángela and is very upset. He calls for help, and Sam recognizes the odor of chloroform.
Nelly apologizes to Peralta and Emma. She says that the doctor who said she lost the baby was lying. But she can’t resist saying she did it out of love and the fact that she’s sure he’ll never be happy with Emma, because of her “illness”. But she keeps her mouth shut about Gabriel’s involvement.
Willy tells JM they’ll have to make some changes in the police protection, earning himself a glare from Manuel Flores.
The Reptile and Greedy Gloria argue out in the woods. GG says the Rat can’t be alive; they buried him themselves. She thinks someone else is trying to scare them to get money. The Reptile tells her this is the first time in her life she hasn’t felt in control. They try to leave, but the car won’t start.
Manuel says all the women should be in one room. Willy is suspicious about how someone could have gotten in. He said he had to show his drivers license to get in. Willy tells
Sam he moved out of his house because he’ll never forgive Despicable Dad. Sam tells him she’ll never forgive him.
While the women are in Génesis’ room, Nelly blurts out that Luis entered the house. When Emma sees Violeta’s distress, she glares at Nelly, who apologizes. Emma: Hoy tienes el record de perdonas. Violeta is very upset and says she doesn’t want to leave with her papa. Peralta reassures her that no one will take her.
JM says that Ángela is not going to sleep alone again ever. He takes her to his room and tells her new furniture to replace that that Isabel chose will arrive tomorrow. They make love.
GG and the Reptile shoot up the woods after hearing a branch snap. While they’re outside the car, Luis manages to enter and write: Dinero o Cárcel on the dash of the car.
Ofelia tells DD that Darío contacted her from Scotland. The smug SOB tells her that he won’t find the boy because DD gave him money to take a course in Paris. He says that her son is HIS creation.
JM and Angie have taken the girls to school. Ángela sees the Rat peeking around the corner. She yells to the others, and Peralta gives chase. He grabs up the limping Rat, but Manuel Flores comes up behind and hits him in the head. JM tells the others that this means that the Rat has an accomplice [Duh!].
The Reptile is trying to withdraw money, but Willy has found out. She tells him Luis is trying to extort money from her because of a video of them making love.
Nelly is leaving and comes into the kitchen dragging her suitcase. She can’t resist a parting shot, saying that Emma is unbalanced and doesn’t deserve Peralta.
Despicable Dad sends a bouquet of flowers to Sam with a note: Una flor por cada año que tengo para hacerte feliz. Now this seems odd to me. Why bring up the subject of years, when he has waaaay fewer to go than she does? Sam is not pleased. We see DD talking to a photo of Sam. He tells the photo that he lost his favorite child for her, but it doesn’t matter. He dreams of her every night, and sooner or later she’ll be his. Just then EE (Estupida Estela) comes in simpering at him. He whines that he gave everything to Willy and this is how he’s repaid. She grabs the photo, but he lies and says he hates Sam for separating him from his son. He asks her to help him separate the two of them.
Proving that Ángela got her brains from her mother, she has decided to give herself to the Rat. Later she clarifies it as using herself as bait, but still …. GG shows up asking if she’s sure it was the Rat. Ángela says of course she is. GG looks pensive.
Manny yells at the Rat. He tells him he almost ruined everything. The Rat says he wanted to see Ángela. Manny says he’ll cause the loss of millions. The Rat says what matters to him is his wife. Manny tells him she doesn’t want him and is right now at the feet of Arroyo. The Rat loses it, but Manuel points a gun at him and wonders if it’s a good idea to have him alive. The Rat talks fast, convincing him he knows a lot of things about the Reptile. He promises it won’t happen again. He needed to go out for drugs. Flores tells him they first have to get millions from the pelirroja and then he’ll give the Rat his wife on a platter.
The Reptile tries to get some money out of Vicente to pay off the Rat. [It’s lots of fun seeing the super-confident Reptile as rattled as she currently is.] Vicente says he’ll give her a loan, but only because he doesn’t want anyone to discover that he found the Rat to help her on her “missions”. Gabriel shows up [Vicente is his older brother.] and asks his brother to give Nelly a job.
Sam, who always demonstrates a cool intellect, says she thinks the accomplice of Luis is in this house. Greedy Gloria looks sneaky. Sam tells her to investigate everyone inside this house, security personnel, etc. Manny comes in just then saying he’s going to have the cameras installed tomorrow.
Cecilia tells Willy that DD hired the new investigator. Later Willy comes to tell Sam about what DD has done, and does she realize that maybe all the reports we had were from someone his father hired. Maybe our child is alive. Willy says he’s already personally hired an investigator who will be on their case as soon as he finishes up something else.
Ángela tells Sam she doesn’t trust Gloria. She wants Sam to help her trap the Rat.
GG comes to see the Reptile and tells her that Luis could be alive. She tells her that Ángela offered herself as bait to trap the Rat and maybe they could kill two birds with one stone. GG says that, if the Rat kills Ángela, and the police kill the Rat, then the Reptile’s hands stay clean. Needless to say, the Reptile likes this plan. Greedy Gloria tells the Reptile that she suspects Manuel Flores.
Emma now wants to have a baby with Peralta, but he’s wiser than she. He says they needs to spend time finding out how their relationship goes before rushing into having a child.
Manuel makes a sarcastic remark to Willy about his pursuit of Sam. And then he tells him that the minute he saw Navarro, he knew she was the woman he’d been waiting for.
Excellent recap, Novelera. In a way, I'm glad there are now so many evil characters, because they can all betray each other. Yes, the Reptile isn't smiling so much these days.
It was a little strange when Peralta tackled the Rat and was holding him down. The Rat's face was sort of half covered by his hood, and later Peralta said he wasn't SURE it was the Rat, but come on, you can recognize someone from half a face!
I still wish they got the doctor who provided Nelly's fake pregnancy papers and also said she lost the baby, in trouble. Even Nelly probably committed some crime in faking all this, but now, she gets to work for Vicente, and can join the bad guys, I guess.
Only a week or so ago, Gloria was going to get a million dollars plus a night of love from Fernanda, in return for keeping quiet about Fernanda's murders. So if Fernanda had the money for that (and didn't use it, I guess), why doesn't she have the money to pay Luis?
Sure enough, as you all predicted, Gonzalo is NOT dead, Andrés shoots the other guy. He then holds the gun to Gonzo's forehead, saying you're next! But he apparently only had one bullet (?), so he doesn't shoot Gonzo. The plan is back to send him to Mexico, pin the murder of Manuel on him. Andrés and Victor agree about this. But privately, Victor tells Henry and Pedro he's going to pin everything on Andrés. Henry also shows up at the warehouse and beats up Gonzo a bit.
Since the cops have been presented with Manuel's wallet from Gonzo's room, Gonzo is the prime suspect. Even Mau thinks he could have done it. Olivia asks for help, and Mau suggests talking to Liz, Gonzo's girlfriend, and Leo. Liz says Gonzo's no killer. Ana remembers Gonzo was friends with Javier, so the cops go to his place, but he's disappeared, too.
Of course, he's disappeared to Andrés' warehouse, and is now prisoner with Gonzo.
At the Maximo house, Benita tearfully tells Nena she's worried her son is involved, but there's no way he would murder anyone. Andrés marches in, tells Benita, get out, you mother of a murderer! You're fired. He throws a wad of cash at her. Take this, it's more than you'll earn in 6 months. I never want to see you again! Nena is mortified, says she'll talk to Andrés, but Benita says no, don't make it any harder on yourself.
Yesenia is worried, but Victor keeps hushing her with money, gifts, and sex. She asks where he gets all his money. He gets mad, says don't like it, then leave! Then he calms down, says he's a lawyer, and he's saved up for a while (yeah, right). Yesi keeps falling for this, at her peril.
Leo IS getting the feeling that his father is involved in this whole mess, and vows to get to the bottom of it. But when he goes outside, whom should he meet but Cassius, along with his 4 cousins, ready to administer a little belated payback, which they start to do. (In answer to Anon, yes, Cassius was friends with Sofía, and they even had some lunch "dates", nothing more than that, but after he was bullied, he left school, and although he's back today, he's going to New York tomorrow, I think, so that romance isn't happening.
Thanks for the recap, Novelera. I haven't seen the episode yet so I had to read it a couple of times.
So Nelly admitted that she made up the whole pregnancy? Did anyone ask how she managed to get a doctor to lie for her like that?
Was the Reptile unable to withdraw $ because Willy found out?
Carmen sees Mau talking to Olivia (about catching Manuel's killer), later says, why don't you go with her? She's your age (actually 6 years older). Mau just wants to solve the crime. Carmen says you didn't even cry at the funeral. And you have your scholarship at Columbia ahead of you. Mau doesn't even want to go at this point, and he can't leave his Mom and sister alone, they don't have jobs. They'll sell the boat, but Mau will help take care of them. No, says Carmen, you should go to New York for your scholarship. And Sofía and I can come, too! We'll start over from zero, and be together. Mau's not so keen on this plan.
So what's up with JP? Well, he and Joaco have a little staredown. Later, a friend of Joaco's tells him that JP was in jail, too, although he was "found innocent" in Mexico.
At the OB-Gyn, the doctor tells JP he doesn't want to lie, and if he shows Miranda her charts, any other doctor would see that she's a month less far along in her term than they've been telling her (this is because she's really pregnant from the sex in Georgia, and the baby is really "legal"). So JP does the talking. Honey, the doc was telling me the baby's a little smaller than we thought, and will probably be born a month or two early, but there's nothing to worry about. Yes, says the Doc, what HE said. And take these vitamins. (What frauds these guys are!)
As if that weren't enough to upset Miranda, Cortez comes to visit, with a made up story that some reporter wants to print a story about the pregnant teacher. The only way to shut him up is to get married, NOW! So of course, here comes the wedding.
But Mau is not about to give up without a fight. Apparently, due to his teaching job, he's going to be a legal adult in about two days, and his relationship with Miranda will be allowed! (Of course, there is that pregnancy thing, but since Miranda keeps saying it's JP's, maybe he COULD resume his relationship with her, even though she has JP's baby. After all, she can't tell Mau it's HIS baby. Or can she?!!!)
Actually, I'm not even sure Miranda has admitted to Mau that she's pregnant. But the previews seemed to show a wedding dress, so we can expect lots of excitement ahead!
Jean, they never said anything about how they got that doctor to give Gabriel a paper saying she was pregnant and later lie about the supposed miscarriage. I just assumed Gabriel had enough money to pay the doctor off, even though he wants to marry Emma for hers.
Willy definitely found out from the bank about the Reptile's attempt to withdraw money. They never said whether he blocked it or let her have it. He did kind of laugh at her because she said she had to pay off Luis to not put a sex video up on the internet. He asked her how in the world she ever let herself be recorded. The implication was that, despite a rather vigorous sex life, being filmed filmed would never happen to him.
"It’s lots of fun seeing the super-confident Reptile as rattled..." hehehe, Novelera, I can totally see the Reptile as a rattlesnake!
Well, my theory about Manuel being a rogue (but good) cop has certainly gone out the ventana. Luis is starting to look like one of the more sympathetic characters...did we ever find out what happened to his suitcase full of money? I guess GG got it?
J in Oregon
Hombre, this TN has lots of action and quick developments. But they aren't very good at tying up loose ends. Some loose ends:
1. The briefcast of $$$ that JM gave the Rat. Where is it?
2, Greedy Gloria wanted $1 million and one night of love from the Reptile. Has she gotten her one night and is happy with that or are they an ongoing item in bed as well as in plotting together?
3. Did Gloria ever actually get the $1 million?
4. Did Willy refuse to let the Reptile take the money [a corporate account] and that's why she has to hit up Vicente for a loan to pay Luis and Flores?
Novelera- Thanks so much for your wonderful recaps. I'm in South Carolina for the week with no access to Telemundo (or Uni). Luckily, I can watch the previous day's episode online at Telemundo. But it means I'm a day behind. Don't take my silence this week to mean I don't appreciate the recaps. I'm just too late to comment. :)
Sam tells Willy that she wants to get a new detective. She doesn’t trust the one Despicable Daddy hired. Willy replies that he has already hired one.
Darío is back from Scotland. He couldn’t find his son and blames Ofelia. Ofelia tells him that it wasn’t her, it was DD. He is Rodrigo’s patron and calls the shots in his life.
JM shows Ángela his newly decorated bedroom and they put it to good use. JM does not want Ángela to be the bait in a trap to catch the Rat but she insists and eventually he agrees.
DD sends Sam a gift with a smarmy card. She tells Peralta that she will never have anything to do with DD. Peralta asks if that is because of what she feels for the son or because she feels nothing for the father.
Willy tells his DD that he knows what he is trying to do with Sam and it won’t work. DD will never have Sam. DD replies that he is irresistable to women and even if he doesn’t get Sam, Willy won’t have her either.
The Reptile tells JM that the Rat is blackmailing her with a video of them lovemaking.
Gloria passes out pens that have a microchip in them that broadcast their location. Gloria has a plan to catch the Rat. Ángela will go to her mother’s house, which will be empty but surrounded by cops. When the Rat comes for her, he will be arrested. Manuel warns the Rat.
Sam’s with the police monitoring the trap. Emma and Peralta go out which conveniently leaves JM alone in the house. JM gets a call from the Rat pretending to be calling from the police and telling him to go somewhere to meet Ángela. Of course, the dummy doesn’t check to make the call is legit and off he goes alone.
DD tells the Reptile that he used to hate her but she is his daughter so he tolerates her. Like everyone else, he has noticed that the Reptile is not the confident homicidal killer she used to be.
Vincente brings a suitcase of money to the Reptile.
Willy and Sam meet with the new detective inWilly’s office. Unfortunately, Cecilia lets DD listen outside the door. Sam gives the new detective all the material that DD’s detective gave her showing that their son is dead. The new detective tells them that DD’s detective, Ledesma, has a bad reputation and has been accused of fraud. He doesn’t have a high opinion of the evidence Ledesma gave Sam showing that their son is dead but he says that it will be difficult to find the truth.
Later, DD calls Ledesma and says that he wants the money back that he paid him because he did a lousy job.
The Rat ambushes JM in the remote location where he has been decoyed. The Rat claims that everything was hunky dory between Ángela, him and their daughter until JM showed up. Therefore, everything that has happened since is JM’s fault.
The trap with Ángela as bait works perfectly except that some other guy gets caught. It’s pretty clear that Gloria wanted the police the shoot the guy first and ask questions later but that doesn’t happen.
The Rat has JM tied up at some place and is beating him up. He promises to tell JM the truth about the murders of JM’s parents and wife before he kills him.
Darío goes to see his lawyer to change his will since he just found out that he has another child by the “humilde mujer,” “woman of humble circumstances” who is DD’s “ama des llaves,” “housekeeper.” In a serious breach of client confidentiality, the lawyer tells Darío that Ofelia is not a humilde mujer; she is the sole inheritor of her father’s money. Darío is impactado.
After the trap fiasco, Ángela and the police figure out that the Rat has JM. Someone remembers about the locator chips. The police are on the way but Manuel warns the Rat who destroys the chip in JM’s pen.
Darío goes to see DD and tells him that he is a fraud. Darío says that he knows that DD’s fortune was left to his sister Ofelia and therefore Darío’s son with Ofelia is in line to inherit it.
The Reptile tells Ángela that if anything happens to JM, she will destroy Ángela.
Emma tries to keep Génesis from finding out that JM has been kidnapped. Then she turns around and while Génesis is in the room tells Peralta that she is crazy with fear for JM. Naturally, Génesis is upset.
When Sam got the gift from DD, she didn’t open it but it was in a box that was the size of a small jewelry box. Later, Sam is with Willy. She pulls something out of her pocket and a diamond ring falls out on the floor. Willy asks what it and Sam says that his father sent it to her. Presumably, that is what was in the box. Why did she take it out of the box and start carrying it aound in her pocket?
The Rat calls Ángela and tells her that if she wants to save JM, she has to come to where he is without telling anyone. JM tries to tell her not to come. Ángela agrees to the Rat’s terms.
Thanks, Jean, excellent recap. The ridiculous occurrences on this novela keep mounting up, and the end result is that to me, there is actually LESS drama, as accident after accident happens, person after person gets killed, etc., but it just doesn't grab me. In general, though, I enjoy all the beautiful people acting the roles.
How did the Rat, who is not too bright, think to look for a microchip, happen to know it might be in a pen, and destroy it just before the police could track him? Hmmm. BTW, in Relaciones Peligrosas last night, they also had tracking devices, which continuously showed the position, like a gps. You didn't have to track someone, as you do when you're tracing a phone call. What's up with the ones on this show?
If Ofelia is the sole heir of Bernardo's father, who is already dead, why isn't she living the high life with all her money? He died years ago, didn't he? Dario may not know that in addition to Rodrigo being an heir of Ofelia, Fernanda might be, if she's the incestual fruit of Bernardo and Ofe, as some of us suspect.
Dario sure made a quick recovery for someone who shot himself in the head about two weeks ago. For that matter, all the cast members have miraculous recovery powers! Just about everyone's been shot or in car accidents two or three times.
JM is a dunce. Fortunately for him, so is Angela, so they deserve each other.
Gonzalo and Javier manage to get the duct tape off each others' mouths, so they have time to tell each other they're doomed before Henry shows up again. He takes Gonzo out and stuffs him in the trunk of a car. They're going to take him to a boat, then a plane, then Mexico. But at the end of the episode, the car is stopped, and from inside the trunk, Gonzo hears someone say "Get out of the car, and put your hands on your head!"
Cassius does beat up Leo, using his new kung fu skills. Leo doesn't tell his Mom or Dad the truth, but later, at school, he admits it to Sofía. He tells her he deserved it, and won't try to get Cassius back. Cassius has shown up at school and says goodbye to Sofi. After he leaves, Sofi comforts Leo. Liz looks on in the background, jealous. Nora tells her where there once was fire, ashes remain. If you like Leo, watch out, cuz his ex, Sofi, is being nice to him.
Joaco follows Yesi, sees her get in a car with Victor and make out with him. He's shocked, she's going out with my boss!
At school, they're starting up the new library with Miranda, and also Mau is starting his student teaching. A note is slipped by Sofía to Miranda (from Mau) saying meet me at this address. She hides it from JP. Later, we see Mau waiting for her in Yesi's trailer, and Miranda does show up. She comforts Mau, who cries in her arms, he can finally let it all loose, he's been acting strong for his family. But he's exhausted, didn't sleep a wink last night. He falls asleep with Miranda cuddling him.
JP has gotten tracking devices from Olivares, and put them in Miranda's car, and maybe Mau's moto. He tracks Miranda to Yesi's house, and goes there, only to find Miranda and Mau sleeping peacefully. This drives JP crazy, and he pulls out a gun with no serial number which Olivares had given him. He thinks back to what Oli told him - why not kill Mau and get rid of the problem? JP points the gun at Mau, but remembers how that would ruin things with Miranda. Mau wakes up, JP takes him into the other room, threatens to kill him.
Now Miranda wakes up, what's going on? JP hides the gun, but Mau says are you afraid to show the gun you had two minutes ago? JP puts the gun on the table, I was worried about you, Miranda, after your trip, they could try again. What trip, asks Mau? And what does he mean, try again? Everyone's silent. The two guys face off, JP says to Miranda, if you're not with me all the way, after all I've done for you, I'm out of here forever. Right now. You decide!
Benita is interviewed by Olivia, tells how Javier did come and visit, it was strange, could he have put that wallet under Gonzalo's bed to get him in trouble? She's distraught, but Olivia assures her they'll investigate the case fairly. At this point, though, everything is pointing to Gonzalo as the murderer of Manuel.
Nena starts to tell Andrés he's being a bit mean about firing Benita, but he roars back, "If you mention either of those lowlives once again, I'm leaving this house forever!" (I say good riddance).
Andrés asks Victor, what did you do with the murder weapon? Don't worry, replies Victor, it's in a safe place. When Andrés leaves the room (they're in his study), Victor takes said gun out of his pocket, and puts it on Andrés' bookshelf, right behind the Bible!!
So we have at least three cliffhangers to resolve today.
1) How will Miranda respond to JP's ultimatum?
2) Is Henry arrested? And what will happen to Gonzalo in the trunk?
3) What will happen to that gun behind the bible?
Hee Hee, Hombre, your comments are right on. The plot has more holes than swiss cheese.
Did Manuel tell the Rat that the location thingy was in a pen? If not, he was smart to find it.
(a) Ofelia might not know she inherited from her father. DD might have concealed that info from her and had her sign some papers that gave him control over the money.
(b) Ofelia might have let DD have the money. She's kind of a wuss. He might be blackmailing her about Fernanda.
What I like about this novela is:
1. the attractiveness of the main characters, especially Sam and Willy;
2. the fact that the main couples get moments of happiness between misunderstandings; and
3. the fact that the plot, however ridiculous, moves along and secrets that on other (Univisión) novelas go on for months always seem to be revealed in a few days.
Thanks, Jean. Excellent recap. Lots happens, but it kind of feels like things are going in a circle at times. First one, then another of the protagonists is almost killed by the Rat, only to be saved at the last minute.
Hombre, the Rat is not that smart. Manuel called him and told him that JM had a tracking device on his person. Then he frisked JM and looked a lot before finding the pen and crushing the device under his heel.
The Reptile was kind of right. This whole sequence of events IS Ángela's fault. She insisted on being bait for the Rat and now JM is paying the price.
Here's what I think is going on with Despicable Dad and Ofelia. Somehow he managed to hide the fact of the inheritance from her, told everyone he was the heir and has had her convinced all these years that he's doing her a favor letting her live there. Either that or she's dumber than everyone else in the cast - quite a feat - and is willingly living as a servant.
I could have screamed when DD listened in on Willy talking about his new investigator. The guy is sure a piece of work. I hope we get to find out WHY his father disinherited him. He cheats his half sister; tells his daughter he hated her - and maybe still does - and tries repeatedly to ruin his son's relationship with the woman he loves. Not to mention telling his long-term lover on her death bed that he never loved her. Grrrrr.
Haven't see the epi yet, but agree with all the comments so far, although I have to say there are many a Uni tn that moves quickly, reveals secrets, AND manages to keep a coherent plot. But everyone sure is pretty in this.
I am glad to see my theory of DD stealing his sister's inheritance and hoodwinking her is playing out. But I didn't suspect that HE was totally disinherited and Ofelia should rightfully have everything. I hope Dario reveals this to Ofelia. I hope it doesn't end with him dying with useful info like Sol did. (Will anyone now know or care that Fernanda killed Sol's brother way back when?) Sloppy plot development by the writers.
Novelera, No need to be sorry! You know what they say, "Great minds with but a single thought..."
I forgot to mention that Willy actually caused DD to listen in on his meeting with the detective by telling Bernie that he had found out that Ledesma was corrupt. That put Bernie on the alert about where Willy got that information.
Jean, yes! I forgot that. I was yelling at my TV when Willy insisted and showing his cards to DD. But that's what the good guys always do: give the baddies plenty of opportunities to thwart their plans.
I agree with all the comments with the exception of seeing Luis as a sympathetic character. It seems so repetitive that Luis and JM almost killed each other earlier, and the cycle keeps repeating itself ad infinitum. But I too enjoy all the pretty people. I must admit I delight in hearing the wonderful terms of endearment that JM bestows on Angela and his promising hopes and dreams for their future. He has a way with words. Yes, I agree, he can be obtuse at times, and that was a funny comment about Angela getting her brains from her mother.
Thanks, Novelera - I look forward each day to your all encompassing
synopses. Thanks to all commenters as well. Great fun!.
It looks like we are finally rid of the Rat.
Ángela wants to exchange herself for JM but the police won’t let her leave the house. They have traced the Rat’s call and are closing in on his location. But when they get the Rat is gone and they have no trail. He has convinced someone, presumably Flores, to let him use a boat.
Sam gives Ángela a medallion on a chain. She and Willy help Ángela escape from the house.
Ángela goes to the marina. She pleads with the Rat to let JM go but of course he reneges on his promise. The Rat starts to kiss and fondle Ángela in front of JM. He goes crazy, there’s a struggle and JM gets shot. Ángela thinks that he is dead.
Meanwhile, Sam reveals to Willy that the fingernail-sized medallion she gave Ángela not only has a microchip for location, it has a camera!! She starts trying to locate Ángela. At first, there is no signal and then we see the familiar zoom in of Google Earth.
Génesis says the guardian angel prayer and JM regains consciousness in the cabin of the boat. The Rat and Ángela are up on the deck and the boat is conveniently anchored.
In what has to be one of the silliest scenes in this novela, Sam and Willy somehow sneak up on the Rat’s boat. Alone on the open sea, the Rat neither sees nor hears the approach of Sam’s boat. Apparently, Sam’s boat has a dingy because we see her and Willy paddle up to the Rat’s boat and board it just as JM manages to come up from the cabin and the Rat is about to shoot him. Sam shoots the Rat.
In other developments:
It’s pretty clear that Despicable Dad concealed the true will of his father and stole Ofelia’s inheritance. First, DD warns Ofelia against wild lies that Darío might tell her since his mental state is weak after trying to kill himself and losing Perla. Darío shows up and asks Ofelia to come away with him. She is shocked that he would make such a request right after he was widowed. DD shows up and Darío accuses him of stealing Ofelia’s inheritance. Ofelia says that she believes in DD - he has given her everything. The Reptile shows up just in time to learn that Ofelia is DD’s sister and her aunt.
Estela gets more than she bargained for when she accuses Ofelia of being in love with DD. Ofelia goes crazy.
The Reptile and Gloria are worried that if the Rat is taken alive, their gooses are cooked. Gloria is giving the Reptile a neck massage when Vincente comes in.
Finally, Gloria tells Flores that she is sure that the Rat has an accomplice and she suspects that it might be him.
Thanks, Jean. Another wild and somewhat improbable episode. I'm not 100% sure the Rat is dead. Yes, he was shot, and fell into the sea, but can't we just picture him washing up somewhere, clinging to life? (I'm usually wrong on these predictions).
One prediction I feel pretty good about is that JM will recover within a few episodes, and be good as new. Or we may have a coma. Or he could be paralyzed. It's almost as if they toss the dice each time a character is shot, thinking how much will our audience swallow?
I was hoping that Gloria could discover Flores' dirty dealing, and was feeling sympathetic to her, but I forgot, she's bad, too!
Yesterday, I ended up with three questions.
1) How will Miranda respond to JP's ultimatum? No surprise here, she tells Mau she's just here to support him, but she's committed to marry JP. Mau has all the air come out of his sails, and after JP and Miranda leave, he sees the gun sitting there. He picks it up, points it at his chest, thinks with one pull of the trigger, I could get rid of all this pain. But no, he decides, he's not giving up. And he has to find Manuel's killer.
At this point there's a loud knock on the door. Police! Open up! Mau quickly calls Olivia, tells her he has a loaded gun (not his) and there are cops outside, she tells him to hide the gun, she'll be right over. He puts the gun under the mattress, the cops break in, handcuff him, he pleads with them to wait, and sure enough, a few minutes later, Olivia is there. She tells the guys this young man is working with the police, and I'll be responsible for him. The cops leave, and Mau gives her the gun, which they put in a baggy. She notices the serial number was gone, and asks him where he got it. Mr. JP brought it, and threatened me with it. Olivia says JP probably did this on purpose to TRAP you, he's the one who may have called the cops, you're lucky I got here!
JP is so happy Miranda went along with him. They're getting married within a week. He tells Olivares he wants to destroy Mau bit by bit, that's much better than killing him. His next idea, at school, he'll work it so that Miranda proposes to him in front of the whole school (I thought they already announced, but oh well). He tells Miranda they should make a big announcement, and she doesn't want to hurt Mau, but JP insists again, either you do that to PROVE you're love, or I'm gone. She'll do it.
2) Is Henry arrested? What happened to Gonzalo in the trunk. This one was REALLY surprising. Gonzalo has the trunk popped open, and two thugs say to each other, look, they kidnapped a kid. We robbed a car, and who'd think there would be a kid in the trunk? They throw him to the ground and drive off.
But wait! This was all Victor's idea. He and Henry had some friends pretend to rob the car, and purposely free Gonzalo! Victor tells Henry that Gonzalo will now tell the cops everything, and down goes Andrés! Gonzalo has nothing on Victor, he smirks. Henry calls Andrés, who is currently sleeping with Monica, says, sorry boss, some robbers stole the car, and took it away with Gonzalo in it. We lost him. Damn! yells Andrés. He tells Monica, I've got to leave, babe, things are going to sh*t. As he leaves, Monica calls Victor, saying "he's leaving the building!" She thinks to herself, NOBODY treats me as second fiddle. Yes, evil Andrés is getting the shaft! But I'm going to bet he finds some way of wiping that smirk off Victor's face!
Joaco has followed his sister Yesi to Victor's apartment, sees them kissing, and is not happy. He also observes Victor paying off the two thugs, and realizes Victor is some kind of gangster. Maybe HE will be the key to Victor's downfall.
3) What about the gun behind the bible in Andrés house? Nothing yet. Sofía goes with Leo to his house, pretending to be just upset about her Dad's death, but really wanting to see if she can find some clue there that Andrés is bad (Mau suspects him). She doesn't find anything. Liz hears that Sofi's there, drives up herself, and Sofi assures her that there is nothing between her and Leo. After Sofi leaves, Liz and Leo very openly kiss outside the house, he promises he has feeling for her not for Sofi. But guess who's watching from the bushes? Gonzalo! who has freed himself from the ropes (Victor actually had the thugs leave a bottle there he could break and use to cut the bonds!), and wandered to Leo's house, thinking Leo could help him out of this mess. But after he sees Leo kissing his girl, he's floored, his best friend and his girl, both betraying him!
Patty knows Miranda isn't happy about marrying JP, but she respects her decision, and will help Miranda with the wedding preparations. That's what friends are for!
BTW, I think the actress playing Olivia, Daniela Navarro, is very good, and could land a leading role in a the future (possibly as the villain). And of course, the guy playing Gonzalo is amazing!
True, the Rat might not be dead but he is probably going to appear to be dead for a while. I just can't imagine that we can ring more changes on having him at large and if he's caught by the police, the Reptile and Gloria go down and it's too early for that.
Thanks, Jean, great recap!
God, I hope the Rat has been exterminated!!! One thing though, Flores doesn't have anyone to blame the extortion on now. And Greedy Gloria appears to be on to him. She's probably going to disappear soon. Although, unless some "proof of life" can be found of Luis for Flores to continue to use as a straw man, Flores himself is at risk of being discovered as the culprit.
I can't stand the overacting of the Ofelia actress. She's got on waaaay too much eye makeup and, when she wails, she looks kind of like the Greek mask of tragedy, only not as good looking.
It's beginning to look like, to me, that she is involved in an incestuous relationship with DD. Why else would she go nuts at Estela suggesting she loved him? If there's nothing there, then a person would normally just laugh it off.
But they also seemed to suggest earlier on that she was madly in love with Darío but he was married. What are these writers smoking?
I know it was not very believable, but I loved Sammy sneaking up on the boat and blowing away the Rat. I love every scene Ximena Duque is in. She's wiped Carola Conde from my mind with her strong, sympathetic portrayal of Samantha Sandoval Navarro.
It's kind of fun seeing Ezekiel Montalt (Manuel Flores) playing a strong, ruthless character. I've seen him in 3 novelas. He played a very conflicted and unhappy gay man in Más Sabe el Diablo. He played an alcoholic obsessed with his sister-in-law in Los Herederos del Monte. And he played an inept rich guy who got involved with the drug trade in La Reina del Sur.
Musing on about Ezekiel. I googled him and discovered he's Spanish. I remember thinking: Wow, he did a great job with his European Spanish accent in La Reina del Sur. Turns out that probably IS his real accent. He studied singing and trumpet in a music school in Valencia. He also plays jazz!
I'm not too fond of the actress who plays Ofelia, either. I think we've gotten lots of hints that Ofelia had an incestuous relationship with Bernie and may be the Reptile's mother.
A long time ago, she said that Dario rescued her from some terrible situation and that was why she was with him.
But when Dario shot himself, Estela, I think, told Ofelia that Dario must be her 'gran amor,' she said no, her gran amor was somebody else for which she would be punished in hell.
Ofelia's reaction to Estela's accusation is just more grist for the mill.
I have never seen Ximena Duque in another novela but I agree that her portrayal of Samantha is the best thing about this novela. Fabian Rios is just great as Willy, too.
Thank you Hombre. I managed to see the kid finding the glass and then cutting himself free and then promptly fell asleep. Thank you for the recap. Was surprised Victor could come up with an idea like that.
Okay am not sure if DD and Ofelia (Danvers to me), grew up together? Could DD and Ofelia have gotten together not knowing they were sis and bro back then? Is that why her father disinherited her as she believes?
Luis dead, I don't think so. I think once JM recovers it will go back to the same ole thing, let me call you, you come to me, I kidnap you, someone gets shot, someone goes to hospital, and then we start all over again. How many times have Luis and JM been shot? Am waiting for a shirtless episode from one of these guys to see if there are any marks on them.
Novelera thank you for update on Ezekiel. I'm watching him now on Mas Sabe, he looks awfully young and a bit chubby in Mas Sabe, but is doing a wonderful job.
I love Ximena, but why does Telemundo always have their leading ladies stare into the camera without a response.
Hombre, I know they have to stretch out keeping the protagonists apart as long as possible, but this JP thing is annoying.
I saw a bit of the novela when Mauricio told Miranda that - and I forget why - he had done something that would make their relationship "legal". But she still goes for creepy JP? Bah!
Jean, I'm pretty sure you did see Ximena Duque before. She played Diana Gallardo, the love interest of Victorino Mora (the Mauricio Ochmann character).
Novelera, Mauricio has applied to be an "emancipated minor", which somehow allows him to have the legal rights of an adult if he 1) lives away from home and 2) supports himself. He's living at Yesenia's, and now that he has a job as a student teacher, I think in a few days, he'll be an adult, and can have a legal relationship with Miranda. The problem is, she's pregnant, and thinks the baby was conceived at the beach way back on day 1 of this novela, so if that comes out, she goes to jail, and the baby gets taken away. Mau doesn't know about any of this.
I went back and watched part of an episode of Victorinos on You Tube. I didn't remember Ximena Duque as Diana Gallardo at all. Not a very memorable character compared to others in that deeply weird novela!
Great recaps and comments.
Totally agree about XD and FR. Love seeing them together.
Many thanks.
Once again many thanks to Novelera, Jean and Hombre for their insightful recaps.
Okay, whoever said Ofelia reminded them of a Greek tragedy mask, but not as good looking? Hahaha, so right! Also, tonight Bernie said to Ofelia "I would never cheat you out of any money" and Ofelia said "you gave me something that was worth much more than money..." Ewwww! I'm afraid Ofelia's dark secret is going to be truly icky...
J in Oregon
Darío tells the Reptile that Ofelia is her tía, DD’s half sister and the legitimate heir to the del Castillo money. DD admits that Ofelia is his half sister but denies defrauding her. Darío insists there is a will naming her. He’s going to find it, take Ofelia away, and leave Despicable Dad penniless.
Greedy Gloria tells Flores she knows someone in this house is helping the Rat. He says he never even met the Rat. She tells him she’ll have her eye on him. She gets a call saying they found Luis and watches Flores’ expression change
The Reptile is pissed that Ofelia didn’t tell her the truth. She asks if there are any other secrets; Ofelia looks shifty but says no. The Reptile, who seems to have a love/hate relationship with Ofe, tells her she can’t ever leave her. Estupida Estela comes in to tell them JM is alive.
We now move to the hospital for the usual wringing of hands. I timed how long it would be before the Reptile rushed in as well: two minutes.
Flores opines that having been shot and being in the sea, he must be dead. [Hah! The Rat has more lives than Freddie Kruger.]
Obtuse Ofelia tells DD that she doesn’t believe Darío and furthermore would never leave the Reptile. Gah!
Ángela sings her same song at the hospital. Let’s sing it together: Todo eso es mi culpa. She’s in JM’s room. Meanwhile the Reptile arrives and gripes to Willy about what she learned about Ofelia.
Darío begs the indiscreet lawyer to tell Ofelia about the will. The lawyer tells him he might be able to find un borrador del testamento (a rough draft).
The Reptile makes a big scene at the hospital telling Ángela the whole thing is her fault. Ángela, of course, just agrees with her. The Reptile tells everyone she loves JM.
Estupida Estela has plans to be more than a lover to DD. She’s looking for the ring.
JM feels that he’s dying (but we know better). While the usual novela choir chants a religious hymn in the background, he asks Ángela to be a mother to Génesis. Another flatline.
Ha! A week passes and JM practically bounds through the door, greeted by Génesis and Emma. Violeta runs to her room, sad that her papí died. Ángela tells her it’s OK to grieve for him, and they’ll put a rose in the sea for him.
The Reptile tells GG that she’s been asked for another million. [So when did they deliver the first suitcase full of money?] She tells GG that they’ll get together another million and this time set a trap for the accomplice.
Flores asks Sam out while Willy looks on. After Willy sticks his nose in, Sam says she’s not available that night, but tomorrow is good.
Peralta tells Emma he needs to leave because there’s no more threat. JM doesn’t need a bodyguard. Emma pleads for him to stay.
The Reptile, of course, is asking Vicente for the money again. She also says he has to help her kill Ángela.
Bernie continues to work on Ofelia. She tells him that he gave her so much more than money [a baby rattler, perhaps?].
The lawyer tells Darío he found a draft of the will, but then tells him Alfonso del Castillo left everything to Bernardo del Castillo. Darío gets a call from a mysterious woman who tells him Despicable Dad set up Samantha’s kidnapping all those years ago. He runs out. The unethical lawyer talks to DD on the phone wanting the money for lying to Darío.
The Reptile again sneaks into JM’s room. He’s asleep. She lifts a pillow to smother him. [Huh? He might be shot, but he walked into the house. She couldn’t suffocate an adult male.] He wakes up and finds her crouching on his bed. He is very annoyed and tells her he told her not to come into his room. He asks her to leave. She sees Ángela’s suitcase on the floor and says something about her installing herself as the Señora de la casa. JM looks right at her with those black eyes and tells her Ángela IS the Señora of the house.
Angie and Sam go to the hospital for the DNA results. DD has bribed the doctor. For a while she hesitates between two envelopes, but gives them the one saying they aren’t related.
GG says they found Luis. Riiiiight. An unrecognizable body has washed up on the beach.
In a ridiculous scene, Darío confronts Bernie on the top of some tall building. He admits that he arranged the kidnapping. It was because of Darío being Nora’s lover. For a while he thought of having Sam killed back then, but now he’d rather have her in his bed. Darío lunges for him and DD pushes him off the building.
Tamara is almost robbed in the street by a young thug and is saved by that upright cop Ramirez, aka the Rat in a uniform. He even has the gall to flirt with Tamara.
Emma and Peralta go to an expensive restaurant. What is Emma thinking? Peralta says he can’t afford a place like this. Emma agrees to leave. They run into Vicente and Nelly on the way out, likely a couple now.
JM gives Ángela a ring and proposes to her. She says yes.
Thanks for the super, snarky recap, Novelera. This novela is getting ridiculous.
I can't believe we couldn't be allowed to believe that the Rat was dead for at least one episode. I guess I was wrong when I predicted that we had rung all the changes on the Rat running around trying to kill Ángela and JM. I know we don't mention the promos but let's just say that a snake is involved.
The writers keep doing the same thing: Angela has a 50/50 chance of having her arm amputated then in the next scene, she's fine. JM flatlines and in the next scene he's fine.
I'm pretty sure Darío WILL die because he1) isn't a principal character; and 2) he knows that DD ordered the kidnapping of Sam.
Why on earth were DD and Darío on top of a tall building?
Love Estupida Estela (the name, not the character). She really is stupid and probably is the next one who will get the chop. At some point, we may run out of supporting characters.
The class difference story with Emma and Peralta is so ridiculous for a novela taking place in contemporary LA. Peralta should have said he didn't want to be in a frumpy bar where Vincente would go.
I totally agree, Novelera and Jean, this novela is really stretching our credibility! I got a big laugh when the lawyer told Dario, "Ooops, I was wrong, the will gave everything to Bernardo, not Ofelia!". Normally, after a person dies, the will is probated, and everyone can see it. What's this guy doing trying to "find" a "draft" of the will? Even so, it wouldn't count.
And of course, every lawyer and doctor in this show is corrupt. I don't really find this a good lesson for the target audience to learn, especially since in real life, most lawyers and doctors are NOT corrupt.
Yes, JM's fine, the Rat is fine (even in better shape than JM) but Dario is off the building. Huh?
This show is all about bodyguards (and great looking ones, at that). But compare how many times the bodyguards have saved their clients, as opposed to how many times the clients have been shot, and I'm not sure they're doing too well. Also, all bodyguards seem to get sexually involved with the families they're protecting.
Yes, we're learning valuable lessons.
Yesterday I forgot to add that Liz and Leo did have sex. Gonzalo doesn't know this, but after seeing them kissing, he's mad. He also sees Nena, and decides they're all going to pay with blood (except maybe Nena).
Julia pays a guy for some poison drops she's going to use to make Ana die a slow death. (Not THAT again).
At the inauguration of the new library named after Santi's father, Miranda is introduced as librarian. JP glares at her, and she remembers she has to PROVE her love. She grudgingly but with a fake smile announces how she's getting married in 4 days, this Friday, and it'll be a small ceremony, but I think all the teachers are involved. (Maybe not Gilberto, who is a pain).
Pati's going to be the maiden of honor, and Santi will be the best man. Pati's suggests a bachelorette party, but Miranda nixes this. Julia says something to the whole group about how first you get married, and the divorce is right around the corner. There's a bit of a group groan.
Mauricio gets Miranda alone in a room, and once again says why are you marrying some one you don't love? She still evades answering, just says she's made her decision. Mau says he'll be right there to see if she can ignore her love for him in person at the wedding. Mau also tells her he's legally an adult now, and he asks HER to marry him. We'll hear the answer tonight, but we know it can't be yes.
Gilberto can see what's going on, and chides JP, saying join the Cuckold Club, you and me, pal! JP is not amused.
Yesenia has a new look. Victor has paid for her to redo her hair into a sleeker style, and get some expensive dress to wear. Joaco confronts her, I know you're seeing that Victor Andrade. He's dangerous! Tough, says Yesi, I'm a big girl now. I'm tired of being poor, and dumped on. I'm going for the big time. (This is not good)
At this point, Victor is in bed with MONICA! Not only is he screwing Andres over, he's screwing his girlfriend (pardon my language). But it's nothing serious, Monica says after she has her millions, she'll move to Europe. I think Victor may go with Yesi. He tells Monica, it's ironic, but our two greatest allies are a brother and sister who don't even know they're helping us (Yesi and Joaco).
Pedro calls Victor, we found Gonzo, should we arrest him? Nah, let him do what he wants, the better to get Andres in trouble, sneers Vic.
Ricardo submits his letter of resignation to Vic, he can't work at this lab, it's doing illegal stuff. Sorry, big boy, says Vic, you keep working here or you're dead! What? Are you threatening me? Nah, I meant you're professionally dead, you know. I'll do you the favor of not accepting your resignation. Later, Ricardo tells Theresa, if anything happens to me, you get that insurance money, and promise you'll care for Liz. Okay, she says, even though Liz hates me.
Ricardo tells Pati not to resign, because if they all quit at the same time, it'll look bad.
Diego keeps almost letting it slip that Miranda's pregnant. Nora wants him to shut up, but I'm guessing he'll accidentally spill the beans to Mau at some point. Nora says you're acting like a gossipy old lady. Alejo wonders if he really has a chance with Diego.
Julia also makes a remark to Miranda that Miranda's looking a bit fat. "Must be the happy glow of being engaged." Yeah, that wedding can't come soon enough for Miranda. It may be tonight!!
Excellent recap, Hombre. Now that they're in the last few weeks it seems like the plot is picking up.
Wonder if they'll do what they did in Corazón Valiente? Reluctant bride backs out just when she's supposed to say "Acepto".
I'd like to see Sandra Echevarría play a woman with some courage. She's terribly wimpy in this one, and was that way through most of El Clon as well.
I totally agree with you about Sandra's character in Relaciones, she seems to be playing the exact same character she did in La Fuerza del Destino with all that moping around and sad "poor me" face. I would really like to see her in something where she's a little more light-hearted once in a while!
Holy moly, QUE the heck is going on with CORAZON???? This hospital craziness has got to stop!! Dario, Perla, Dario (again), Angela, Genesis (again), JM, and that's just last week! I'm pretty sure they have passed up Triunfo del Amor in the "gratuitous hospital scenes" category. It's getting really, really old. I have to say this one is losing me--at this point I'm only hanging around for Willy and Genesis, both of whom I love.
I'm definitely ready for some new stuff!
