Una Familia Con Suerte #235-236 Thu 5/3/12 The doc delivers a lot of bad news.

Also two babies, but those are kind of an afterthought.

So, where we left off, Kari has just gloated to Ana that she and Freddy are pregnant. I’m sure the tabloids will be interested in that. Ana, not so much. Adrián is delighted. He and Kari should just get together. Adrian stalks Ana into the house and she actually comes downstairs and unloads her feelings about the news even though she had already told him to skedaddle. Finally she gets rid of him again, but like the Terminator who can’t be terminated, he’ll be back.

Rebe has a fast pulse and high blood pressure, and her crappy doctor doesn’t even examine her, just recommends meds and rest via phone.

Freddy drags Kari back to Pina’s place (not his; safety in numbers with Ado around) and she’s in happy lala land and he yells at her. He thinks she did this on purpose and is just using the baby to separate him from Ana and annoy her. Kari tries various guilt trips on him but to no avail. He says he’ll be a good dad, but he will NOT marry or date Kari.

Turns out Vivian and Barb are friends, so Arnoldo gets a little breather while Viv whines about all her problems to Barb. She claims she would have killed herself and only her love for Sebastián kept her going. She must win him back.

Pancho advises Sebastián to let go of the bitterness and stop hating Vivian, for his own peace of mind.

Tomás chides Pepe for pressuring Moni. Pepe says he’s not sure he loves Moni anymore, and he’s not interested in getting back together. Maybe Frida. Tom does NOT approve.

Frida is heading to Puebla to visit her sick tio abuelo, but first she wants a proper goodbye from Pepe. For “proper”, read “naked”. They make out, but Pepe’s phone rings as he is starting to relieve Frida of her clothing. The mood is derailed and he leaves.

Moni tells Pepe she’s going to Monterrey to work with her dad. He says he’s tired of the drama anyhoodle.

Kari tells Moni she got pregnant on purpose, woo-hoo! Moni does NOT approve. She does serve Kari wine. Probably figures with a mom like that, the baby should get a head start on drinking.

Ado calls Freddy “Joven Amors Hermosho”. She agrees to keep the news secret from Pina awhile.

Rebe Sr. and Candy go to Bar Bohemio for karaoke. The bartender makes eyes at Candy and stares at her with a dopey grin so long he looks like a total idiot. Finally he snaps out of it and brings over a free drink, but when Candy cuts him off with “I’m married” he claims it’s for Rebe Sr. because he loves her singing so much. They flirt and MamaRebe takes his phone number. Candy thinks he’s too young for her.

Enzo gives Chela and us a strip show. They may have had a conversation during that; who knows, doesn’t matter.

Sebástian could really stand to loosen up. He puts a suit jacket on to answer the door and accept a flower delivery. The note from Viv just makes him mad. At least he was formally dressed to tear it up. Wouldn’t do to have a fit all casual and whatnot. Throughout the rest of the episode Viv continues chasing after Seb and he finally tells her he’s found someone else.

Rebe faints and the family loads her into the back of La Burra for a trip to the hospital. She can thank her crappy doctor for necessitating this. Turns out she has pre-eclampsia, and the crappy doc wants to induce labor, nearly three months before the babies were due. Obviously there is much fretting and all missing family members must be summoned to the hospital to join in. Enzo and Chela were in bed, and I get a good laugh because apparently the director thought it necessary to show us Enzo pulling on his undies…and one can see he already had some on, this being a family show and all. Tom is busy working at Avon (and looking bored senseless), but Doc Oc shows up, conveniently home from Germany already.

Continuation of the side plots: Enzo and Moni go to Monterrey, and Moni is surprised at how bossy he is. The assistant (now Denisse, Haydee’s not in) says he’s usually worse. He admits to Moni he’s conflicted about the wedding. Perhaps he would like to know anything about it. Freddy and Adrián arrive at the big house at the same time as usual. Fortunately for Ana, she’s at the hospital stress eating so she misses them. Adrián taunts Freddy until he snaps.

And back to the hospital. We get some tedious childbirth theater, then the baby girl is delivered. The crappy doc makes Rebe suffer and fret needlessly with a stricken look on his face before finally telling her the baby is fine. Rebe starts struggling, though. Crappy doc tells Pancho he has to choose: the other baby, or his wife. {This is ABSURD. No decent doctor would ever ask the family member to make a decision like that. You do what you have to do, and if someone dies, at least the family member doesn’t have to feel guilty for choosing to kill them.} {Also, that baby could have been C-sectioned out in the time crappy doc spent yelling at Pancho to decide. They were all sterilized and in a clean room already. Just sayin’.} Rebe uses her last seconds of consciousness to insist that they save the baby. As soon as she’s out, though, Pancho flashes back to Laurita’s death and tells crappy doc to save Rebe.

Next thing we know, Rebe is waking up in the recovery room, and crappy doc is somberly telling Pancho he made the best decision. WHAT?, asks Rebe. She yells that she wanted the baby saved, not herself. HOW ARE THE BABIES?! Crappy doc looks all sad and stricken for a long long moment while she freaks out, but finally he tells her the babies are both okay. Rebe is still furious at Pancho for overruling her.

Crappy doc gains a few points by refusing to allow the big loud boisterous family into Rebe’s room. Just her mama. But then he loses all those points and then some by dramatically telling Rebe he has bad news about the baby boy.

Avances: Everyone’s celebrating, so I’m guessing the tragic news about the baby is that he has jaundice or something. Seems Fernanda isn’t doing so well, though.

Julia thanks for your recap. ITA w/your description of Rebe's doc. He was horribly incompetent and brought back memories of those tales about Catholic hospital being dangerous for women b/c if there was a life and death situation, the baby would be chosen.

So Kari's is really pregnant. These bad side plots are just painful. And looks like poor Dona Fer will be in the hospital again. Groan!

It feels like Sebastián and his ex wandered in from a really heavy drama filming on the next soundstage. Hopefully he'll lighten up eventually. Where's Pina when you need her?

Wow. These telenovelas sure present doctors in a bad light. Either they're corrupt and fake results for money or they're incompetent like Rebe's medico.

Always love your recaps and opinions, Julia. Favorite line:

"Like the Terminator that can't be terminated"

Not sure if it's because Adrian played such a skank on CME or if the actor is just disagreeable in general, but I dislike him almost as much as I abhor Pancho and his high-pitched screaming. Every time Rebe murmurs how much she loves Pancho I wonder WHY?

Sebastian looked good in his light gray sports coat yesterday. Sorry I missed the Enzo scenes without clothing though.

Thanks again Julia.

Julia- Thanks for the recap and for pointing out the incompetence of Rebe's doc. If it was the U.S., there'd be a lawsuit. I wish they would stop with the "choose your wife or your baby" storyline. Is this still done in Mexico??? But I did feel for Pancho considering he had gone through this before. It was his worst nightmare come true.

I also hope Pina comes back soon to kick Viv back to wherever she came from and to lighten up Sebas' world. He needs some fun. Blue Lass, Sebas and Viv both wandered over from La Que No Podia Amar, and brought all that heavy drama with them.

The love life of the younguns is WAY complicated. I'm glad Fred is at least sticking to his guns that he and Kari are caput, even if they share a child.

Enzo and Chela have given us some good lovemaking scenes the last few episodes. Very different from the first few weeks of his Monterey adventure when he was too tired to do anything when he was home and fell asleep. Seems like he's learned to compartmentalize-- sweet/caring father and sexy husband at home, and hard driving business titan at the office. I really don't think Chela is going to like the idea of moving their whole little family to Monterey.

I just read the LQNPA comments and it turns out the "choose the woman or the baby" plot line was used there too last night. Gah!

Thank you Julia for this great recap. I agree with you about the C section, Rebe could have stroked out her BP was so high. I am glad she and the babies are ok.

Loved Ado this epi. I love how she always listens to Pina and Freddy and I liked that she called Freddy Jouven Amors Hermosho.

Can't stand Adrian and Kari. They would be so great together. I really hope Ana doesn't choose him and Kari has just lost her mind. I think Kari is hoping that when Pina gets back, she will guilt Freddy into being with Kari.

I know it gets old but I love the family dynamic here. Whenever there is a problem they all get together to support each other.

Dona Rebe and Candy are so much fun together. I really liked how Candy thought that guy was into her but it was Dona Rebe lol.

Julia:

Thanks for the recap. Good grief, I thought this episode would never end. Congrats to all you recappers for the upcoming end of this ultra-marathon. I really appreciate your commitment—and your stamina.

Blue - ITA. Sebastian is probably still depressed from being stabbed in a parking lot a couple of weeks ago over on LQNPA. From darkest TN currently airing to airhead UFCS—that's kind of a rough transition. Perhaps he'll buck up soon.

EJ

Omigosh, I thought Vivi was kidding! He really *did* wander over from LQPNA? (That's the only evening TN I'm *not* currently watching...!)

Kari is off the rails. After her miserable childhood with battling parents, she thinks it will be blissful to have a child with a guy who neither likes nor loves her? She wants a kid so she'll have someone who loves her? Uh, how did that work out for her parents?

What will it take to get rid of Adrian? Every time I think he's gone, he comes right back! How can Ana seriously consider a guy who has absolutely no respect for her requests? There is NOTHING appealing about him!

Vivian is a total drag. Please come back, Pina!

Thank you for a great recap.

I have to admit I thought my tv had stopped during the birth scene when she kept asking questions and noone moved. I could not believe it. I think I was yelling answer, answer.

Did they say the upcoming TN will be Un refugio para el amor or Amorcito Corazon?

Thanks, Julia. "He’s conflicted about the wedding. Perhaps he would like to know anything about it." LOL!!

Adrian and Kari? Sure, why not. I'd been saving him for Frida, but Moni hasn't seemed happy in a very long time, so maybe breaking up with Pepe is for the best.

Vivian and Barb are friends? It's much too small a world. (Then again, this being a telenovela, it's a wonder they're not long-lost twins.) I think Viv was Pilar of the looooooong underwear/horse commercial in LFMB, so I hated her immediately.

Ana stress eating? Uh-oh.

I hope the bad news about the baby boy is "he has a very annoying laugh." That's bad enough.

THAT's where I remember Vivian from! That horrid underwear advert! Ugh. Not liking her any better here.

Hahaha..."Rebe, I have terrible, tragic news. Your son looks and sounds just like his father."

Vivian was also Natasha, Camilo's girlfriend in Manana es Para Siempre, and she's currently some sort of social worker working with orphans in LQNPA(from what I can tell in the 5 mins at the end that I see).

Julia, thanks for all the detail. I missed this one.

Dang, once again I miss out on Enzo's striptease.

Glad Freddy told Kari he won't marry her. But after the pregnancy scare with Elena you'd think he'd have been more careful. Kari's been a lot more crazy-needy-desperate with him than Elena ever was.

I was also really surprised that after Freddy's years of catting around and Elena's pregnancy claim especially, he wouldn't have been more careful. QTH, Freddy?

I'm starting to think maybe Ana should end up alone and Freddy and Ado should get together.

Oh, I forgot about the German in this episode. That was too funny. Maybe Pancho learned it from the headmistress at the school he was going to send Temo to when he got in trouble at his school. He shouted Rouse pretty well. lol. It is the same as largate.

I swear I don't know what the hell
their saying half the time, but I
get the biggest kick out of all the
characters on this show. Believe it or not, I'm gonna miss it when it's
finally over. J

I know what you mean, Anonymous! I can't really get into any of the love angst, but Vince, Candi, Pina and Arnold are so delightful. Everything they do is funny. And I've just discovered Adoración -- where has she been hanging out? She's a scream!

Hiya folks,
Apparently, the part of my brain that understands Spanish is out celebrating Cinco de Mayo tonight at some party that the rest of me was not invited to. Hopefully it'll be back tomorrow so that I can compose a coherent recap.

You funny.
