Amorcito Corazón Discussion #4-8 June 4-8

Please forgive me everyone. I got way behind this week and I sped through the chapters, so I may have missed everything a few things.

Main Events:
  • Marisol goes to find her destiny (Juancho) while her destiny goes to the DF to find his destiny (Marisol.) Marisol sees Juancho getting on a bus and after coming home is convinced her amor is  in the DF. Juancho arranges for a radio station to help him look for his media naranja. No one listens to the radio except Juancho.
  • Fernando tells Isa that Poncho was bragging about taking her virginity. Isa never wants to see Poncho again.
  • Isa and Fernando's hijas become buddies.
  • Hortensia accuses Isa and Fernando of being lovers and later gets Isa fired. Too bad Isa thinks it's Fernando's fault. Isa plans to get work in her carrera: Architecture.
  • Willy finds out Lucía is a monja and wants to win her over (I guess he loves a challenge.) He has lots of scenes and I understand 5% of what he says. There's the schtick in the priest's robe and then some rather kinky shenanigans with Lucías stolen habit. ¿Hay alguien que me puede ayudar?
  • Doris, a former fling of Fernando's arrives in the DF...much to Fernando's dismay. She teams up with Poncho to make trouble for Isa.
Other Events:
  • Beba and Hortensia look for Willy and get robbed.
  • Cecilio has it bad for Zoe.
  • Álvaro and Zoe are getting divorced. I think Zoe's divorce lawyer is a creep. Does Álvaro get everything because of the prenup?
  • Isa's dad pays the bill for mom's home. Dad's girlfriend is a beech. Isa's mom has a relapse. Dad and mom are not officially divorced.
  • Zoe wants to work.
  • Hortensia starts classes with Willy tomorrow (you know, just to protect her friend.)
Everyone is related:
  • Lucía is Fernando's sis.
  • Willy is Bárbara's brother and they are both Juancho's cousin. Willy and Bárbara's mom, Lala, is giving sewing lessons at the church.
  • Juancho is Marisol's "amor."
  • Bárbara is Marisol's new-found friend.
  • Hortensia is Fernando's suegra.
  • Isa is Marisol's teacher.
  • Beba is very involved with the folks at the school and can arrange a meeting between the principal and Hortensia.
  • Did I miss anything?
A joke I get:
Isa's last name is Cordero (Lamb) and Fernando's last name is Lobo (Wolf.)

A joke I didn't get:
novata/novicia: I assume a play on novata (as in innocent/green/inexperienced) and novicia (novitiate)

Stuff that cracked me up

  • Every scene with Willy boy
  • Suzy Secretaria
  • Piernas flacas

Vocabulario
Poner mi granito de arena: add my two cents; my little contribution
recogelatas: person who survives by collecting and selling aluminium cans.
la sotana: cassock
mitómano(-a): pathological liar
patán (a repeat): lout
al mal paso darle prisa: let's get it over with
el proveedor/la proveedora: supplier
alcahuetear: to act as a go between; gossip; snitch
achahuete: tattle-tale (I'm pretty sure Doris said "alcahuete" or also así, so I'm including all the possibilities.)
firmar a ciegas: to sign without reading

I'll be back Monday with the weekly post. Feel free to fill in my blanks.

Thanks, Sara!

"Alcahuete/alcahueta" also means procurer or pimp, which is how I think they're using it here. In the nicest possible way, of course.

Willy stole Lucía's habit after his Mom repaired it, I think maybe just to return it to Lucía -- but after he was surprised by the randy exercise-lady in the locker room, he had the idea to ask her to put it on for a little fun & games. Then he called his friends (Moncho, Chicho, and Nacho, oh my!) and told them hang around outside the hotel to see him check in with the little monjita. Bad boy!

Ah, ok. Thanks!

And I loved how the friends bought it, but then saw the monjita leaving Willy's house. I think he's busted. With his friends and for spilling wine on the habit. ji ji!

Sara, thanks.

I am glad find out the story of the nun and Willy. Willy is really funny in this role and easy on the eyes as well.

Sara--This was great! Especially when I lost one whole episode this week. It's fun, but they talk too fast and use a lot of idioms. Good for exercising the ears and brain at the same time.

Yes, BL is correct, don't forget he has a wager on to conquistar the lass he met earlier, not knowing she was a novitiate. The boys don't let him out of the wager when he finds out she *is* a sister-in-waiting. That's why he used a look-a-like to pose as Lucia. Unfortunately, he didn't get what he came for, even though said non-sister was willing, able and ready.

Poor Fernando, he doesn't get a break. All these women in his life giving him grief. I wonder if he will really hire Isa as an architect when he realizes he was culpable of her getting fired and can't get the intransigent Mother Superior.

This is the first tn I've watched that has such an age range of children and young people. So far, I like them all.

That was cute that only Marisol's friend heard the radio message in the kitchen and then hid the fact from the nana that she *does* listen by saying it's the servants who listen to that station.

This is going to be fun and I look forward to the weekly forums.

Anita (from El Tal and Refugio and LQNPA and Corazon Apasionado and now Amorcito Corazon...whew)

I meant to finish the sentence about not being able to get the Mother Superior at the school to change her mind.

Rosemeary La Primera: I think Willy is my favorite character. This is only the second thing I've seen him in; the first being Teresa (where he really was dull, dull, dull.) Daniel Arenas is a great comedian.

Now, about the bet: he bet his car, right? I keep hearing "nave" and "móvil" (and I'm pretty sure we aren't talking cell phone.)

I thought the two dream sequences were pretty funny, too!

Anita: Yeah, they talk *really* fast. I am looking forward to being done with school this week and having the time to watch it/rewind it/watch it multiple times so I can (hopefully) have better vocab lists. And maybe I'll get better understanding Willy and his friends.

I find Willy the hardest to understand, which is a shame, since he's the funniest!

Oh, and thanks, Sara, for that Cordero/Lobo pickup -- I never would have caught that. I do like the way she keeps calling him a werewolf.

Yep, it looks like Zoe will end up with nothing because of a prenup. That seems kind of harsh, since it was the husband who strayed. That lawyer is super-sleazy, too.

Thanks Sara. This is such a fun TN, I am enjoying it immensely. It was Mr. Sharkbait (who loathes TNS) who pointed out to me the Lobo and Cordero joke. Even though he doesn't "get" my TN habit he was so very proud of himself for picking up something I had failed to compute. So kudos to you for getting the joke.

I have a hard time understanding Willy Boy too. Thank goodness he makes it fun to rewind, sigh.

Sara this was great. You do a terrific job of wrapping up the week's events. And your vocab absolutely rocks. I love it!

Thank you, Sara!

Yes, Willy G bet the Willymóvil aka his car that he could get his favorite dame who turned out to be a novitiate into the sack. So now he thinks he's won since they spied and saw him go into the motel with the friend in nun's clothing, but I think they then saw real monjita coming from the other direction (from Willy G's house, looking for her habit) when she should have still been elsewhere, so maybe they won't be so quick to believe him.

So, Bárbara has commented to Marisol that both her primo and Marisol are in the same situation...has she caught on that they are looking for each other and she is keeping that from them, or has she not realized it yet? I can't tell. She does seem to be pretending to be more posh than she really is with her classmates.

I think Poncho told Fernando that Isa is a desperate old virgin.

Hortensia sure is a witch. Fernando needs to come up with some way to keep her super busy and away from his family.

Are Zoe and Isa both architects? I thought Zoe was looking at architect jobs for herself before Isa got fired. Maybe they'll end up going into business together.

Fernando's firm is having a contest to hire a green architect, so I expect Isabel will win and they'll end up working together. Maybe Zoe, too.

I think F's tacky "girlfriend" was very well cast -- I expect we'll get some fun out of her. There was some dinner-table chat about how the niñas had made life miserable for some of F's previous dates, so I have high hopes. We know they're in Isabel's corner.

Oh, and although I didn't catch the Lobo/Cordero joke, I did notice that they are Ferdinand and Isabel!

Blue Lass, yes I thought that was funny too! I'll bet there many more little jokes that I haven't picked up on. Drat. At least I get some of them now so I guess I am learning.

F's tacky girlfriend is played by Liz Vega. I adore her. She is an incredible dancer; I wonder if she will have any dancing scenes?

Really?! I missed the Ferdinand and Isabel joke? Oh jeez.

Julia, thanks for reminding me: Juancho and Marisol better find each other soon. I could not believe that NO ONE made connections.

I wasn't pleased with Barbara playing at being posher than she was, but I will give her a pass for now. I hope she doesn't make a habit of being a liar.

I'm glad you like the vocab, Cap'n. I don't think I have picked up Julia level vocab skills yet, but I'm trying.

Poncho and Doris are going to be engaging in villainy, but I think it will be funny villainy. Hortensia is the one that I suspect will get my blood boiling.

I'm hoping I do a better job of details now that I am posting on Monday and keeping up through the week. Marathon TN watching really does nothing for my comprehension. I rush through it too much when I get behind.

Sara, I think the bullet-style recaps are just perfect.

I will keep the post short. Among the Amorcito watchers, we are all filling in the blanks. It's kind of nice. :-)
Hopefully, Willy G won't say anything *too* important. LOL

BL-Do you know what's coming on after El Tal? PLease don't let it be two hours of AC.

Uni's website is still only listing their schedule through the 16th. No idea what's playing Monday 6/17. Does anyone have inside info?

It's so apt that Fernie's tacky ex is a flooring supplier, considering how she lies like a rug. I agree, she and Poncho will probably be funny antagonists, whereas Snorty Horty is grating. I hope Willy G gives her a heck of a workout.

I thought the next thing coming down the pike was Por Ella, Soy Eva -- but I'm still hoping for Amor Bravío.

Thanks, Sara for your recap.
Another "joke" is that the horrible and pretentious rich suegra of Fernando is called Hortensia DE TRES PALACIOS.

Isabel and Zoe went to architecture school together, but Zoe never finished as she married Alvaro after 2 years.

I am loving this novela and am watching it on the computer. It really is fun!!
And although I only get about 1/3 of what Willy Boy and his cuates are saying, he is really hilarious and so much fun to watch.

Thanks for chiming in, NJ Sue. I didn't catch that bit about Zoe dropping out of school.

BTW, does anybody know the origin of the term "cuates"? It sounds very Mexican, and also as if it's short for something.

There is a wiktionary entry for cuate:
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/cuate

It says it comes from the Nahuatl word coatl, meaning snake or twin. It means friend, buddy, twin according to wiktionary.

AWESOME. That's so cool.

I really need to spend more time on that google-fu.

Well...I knew it was there because I just looked it up last week.

Many thanks Sara for kicking us off. Thanks also for pointing out the joke of Isa and Fer's names.

I am really enjoying this light comedy. I hope they keep this tone throughout.

Willy and his cuates are hilarious. I love that little in sync dance they do sometimes.

Willy planned to have his lover pose as Lucia so that his buds would think he won the bet. It was no accident. He is determined not to lose the WillyMobile. But the wine spillage was not planned, so now we'll see how he gets out of trouble with Lucia. I don't think his cuates were quite smart enough to figure out how Lucia could have been back in the hood so quickly after they just saw her trysting with Willy. They aren't the sharpest knives in the drawer. But they are cute.

I also really enjoyed all the bonding Isa has been doing with the three Marias, especially given that we know they are always horrible to their father's girlfriends. Can't wait for them to start torturing what's her name, who thinks she Fer's girlfriend.

I love that little in sync dance they do sometimes.
---
Me too! I hope we see more of it, but not so much we tire of it :-)

I meant to ask this earlier, but got distracted.

So because of the prenup, Zoe is left with nothing. Wouldn't Álvaro's family want to keep Zoe quiet? Although I guess it's too late for that since she got drunk at the tennis club. Was that explained and I missed it?

Sara,

Do you know where we can find last weekend's recap?

Thanks Blue Lass. There is a link to the recap feed just above Fernando Colunga's picture, too. Gracias again to Cap'n Sylvia.

Blue Lass & Sara,

Thank you. I didn't want to lose track of these priceless recaps.

Rosemary Primera

Sara- Yes, Zoe signed a prenup when they got married. The sleazy lawyer, who seems to want to get into her pants, thinks she can fight for more. But Zoe is the one who wants nothing from her ex. She doesn't want to take anything from him-- nothing that she didn't come into the marriage with.

Ah. Ok. I hope the sleazy lawyer is gone soon. I really didn't like him.

I did like when the slimy guy hit on Zoe before the lawyer arrived (when she met him in the cafe), and he smarmed, "and who are you?" and she snapped back "a friend of your WIFE's." I like her sass. Unless she has a personality transplant, I don't think the lawyer is much of a match for our Zoe.
