El Mundo de Telemundo - week of June 18 - Discuss among yourselves
Labels: relaciones, telemundo, valiente
Another action packed episode, boys and girls!
Ángela Valdez and Juan Marcos Arroyo DO get married. Instead of bridesmaids, Ángela has the three brujas: 1. her mother Estela, who doesn’t look like she’s enjoying her daughter landing the prince, 2. Paula, who looks like she’s sucking on lemons, and 3. the Reptile, who keeps checking her wristwatch expectantly. Oh, and Ángela also gets an orange haired troll at her wedding, her supposedly dead husband who makes this a bigamous marriage. We also get a couple of anxious moments when Samantha and Miguel Jr. insist on making speeches, thus delaying the vows.
Despicable Dad calls Cecilia for more chisme. She tells him Estéban, El Jefe, is Sam’s shadow these days, always around. DD says he’s the last man on earth he wants around Sam. Hmmm. Could it be because he knows El Jefe’s former home is where Sam and Willy’s child lives?
Jefe and Lugubrious Lorena are talking. LL wonders why he’s helping Sam to be independent of him. He says maybe their two agencies will merge someday. She tells him things aren’t working with Willy. It’s so bad that Sam isn’t even jealous of her! And she’s running out of money. Jefe says he’ll get her some work with contacts he made while he and Guadalupe went through the effort to get pregnant.
While the happy couple say their vows, we see the cops swarming all over Casa Arroyo, doubtless finding the scarf and gun in Ángela’s bureau.
At the wedding Miguel Jr. has a flashback to a scene with a pretty young woman called Alejandra. She says she doesn’t want him to be her bodyguard; she loves him. He doesn’t seem to feel the same way and says he wants to protect her always.
Ofelia tells DD in the hospital that she’s worried that the Reptile won’t have any pity after this marriage, just like dear old dad had none with his wife. [Hints that he killed her?]
A completely ludicrous number of cop cars, as well as a van labeled SWAT, pull into the driveway of Casa Arroyo to arrest a woman in a wedding gown weighing 110 pounds soaking wet. The unbearably smug Duval tells Ángela she’s arrested for homicide and reads her her rights. JM grabs him by the lapels and asks him whom she’s supposed to have killed. Duval tells him Isabel, his parents, and Josefina Uriarte, and he has proof.
The Reptile is back home and breaks out the champagne in front of Ofelia and Vicente. Vicente figures it out pretty quickly. He tells the Reptile now he’ll have to put up with her consoling JM.
The Rat tells Vikingo he is furious. He realizes he should have been happy with the vengeance on Ángela, but he realizes that the Reptile used him. She’ll get JM in the end and Angie will rot in jail. [What did he think would happen when he planted the evidence in her bureau drawer? Dummy!] He asks Vikingo for a cage fight to work off his rage.
Ángela is in her cell, distraught. But she tries to console herself remembering things her father said to her and the guardian angel prayer as well.
Everyone is hanging around the police station, just like they usually do at the hospital. Paula and the Reptile bare their fangs at each other. Paula tells Fer we’ll just see who gets to console JM. Oh boy. Maybe Paula’s days are numbered!
Evil/Estúpida tries ineffectually to console Violeta and Génesis. Then she tells Nelly she’s taking Violeta away from this house. Oh, that’s really smart, EE. Take her away from her closest friend when she’s just lost her mother.
The Reptile approaches Miguel Jr. at the police station. He looks at her like he’s figured out what she is. He tells her he’s come to Los Angeles to find out who caused his father’s death, and now he’s not going to rest until he proves that his sister is innocent.
Jefe tells Sam in her apartment that he’ll move heaven and earth to get Ángela proved innocent. Miguel Jr. and Sam talk about plans for tomorrow. Willy’s ears prick up. I’m getting just a little tired of Willy’s jealousy. MG and Jefe leave. Willy tells Sam he’s not a superhero like those two, but he’s there for her.
Duval tells JM that one of the guns they found at his house was used to kill his parents. JM doesn’t believe Ángela guilty for an instant.
The Reptile tells Vicente she wants him to investigate Miguel Gutierrez. She thinks he’s a new enemy. Vicente agrees and then says HE’S ready to celebrate. He tells her he’s got a little extra help tonight and he’s going to make her his. Things are moving right along when he starts to gasp for breath. The Reptile just looks at him coldly, not lifting a finger to help.
We next see the Reptile in Vicente’s hospital room. She is beyond cruel, telling him he’s useless and how could he think of taking pills. She doesn’t want to waste time at the hospital. Vicente murmurs that she has no soul after she leaves.
Sam and Miguel Jr. have found two of the Rat’s old running buddies. Sam approaches and asks about Luis. She says she’s the only woman who really loved him. One of the guys says she should ask for Vikingo at the gym. The other guy doesn’t like this and grabs hold of Sam. We get an extended scene of Sam and Miguel beating the crap out of three guys. Sam has a bloody nose. She and Miguel fist bump, and he says they make a great team!
In the category of maybe the writers are on drugs, Fernanda is telling Duval maybe he shouldn’t tell JM something. JM comes in and is told that Luis killed JM’s parents, but Angie was the brains behind it. She was the lover of JM’s father. While this absurdity is taking place, Fernanda never leaves the cop's office.
JM actually laughs in his face. Duval’s “evidence” is that JM’s father had an apartment where he took his woman, and Angie was one of them. She and Luis wanted to get money out of him. JM has had enough. He punches smug Duval in the face.
Evil/Estúpida comes to the hospital to simper at DD and to tell him about Ángela’s arrest. She finds his phone. [So I guess we can deduce from this that he really has been speaking, just not to her, Ofelia, or his son.] She coos that Ofelia must have left it there; but she’ll keep it from now on. We see DD’s eyes flash. I bet he’d love to strangle her.
Duval comes to try to get Ángela to confess. The guy has become unbearable.
In a scene that doesn’t make much sense, EE comes to the aviation company to do something with papers for DD there. [I thought DD’s family was in the auto business with the Arroyos; what papers would he have at the Sandoval aviation company?] She runs into Ofelia and smirks that SHE has the phone that OO left in DD’s room. OO says what phone. A new character appears, a grey haired guy who says he hasn’t seen Evil/Estúpida since that business when her husband was killed and Samantha kidnapped. EE looks very nervous.
Willy comes into Sam’s business office when MG is putting disinfectant on an injury on her face. He continues to react jealously. He says she’s his wife, just as Jefe and Lugubrious Lorena walk in. So the two plotters now know about the marriage.
The charming Paula comes into Génesis’ room. The child is very upset about Ángela. The witch tells her that Ángela killed her mother, her grandparents, and tried to kill her as well.
JM comes to see the guy in the orange jumpsuit that double-crossed him about telling him who is the female behind all the murders. He demands to know who paid him to say it. [Come on, JM, offer him triple the money!]
The Rat looks like he may be losing his cage fight, but he finally wins. Sam and Miguel Jr. watch the fight. Sam approaches Vikingo and tells him she wants a fight.
The gray haired guy that was at the aviation company comes into a bar. Evil/Estúpida is wearing some kind of black Mata-Hari hat. The guy asks why she called him. She says it’s because no one can know that she was the one who gave the order that “they” kill Miguel Valdez!!!
Thanks for the recap!!
I expected the ridiculous amount of police to interrupt the wedding, but their timing was a little better after all.
Hahhahh. The three witches and troll! :D Well put!! (But at least Angie has Sam and Miguel Jr. to make up for it.)
I thought Ofelia hinted that Nora was in prison. (So she would be the one she was trying to visit.)… which doesn’t really make much sense, but Bernie can apparently pull all sorts of strings to bend the law thanks to the conveniently lacking ethics and logic, and he WOULD let his children believe that their mother is dead.
I actually got the feeling that Miguel Jr. had feelings for Alejandra as well, (And he had more of an issue with crossing a moral line.) but now that you mention it… It was a little ambiguous. (I wonder where Alejandra is now…)
Yeah, Willy should cool it with the jealousy. I think, however, that part of it is, because he might feel insecure about not being as kick-ass as the guys around Sam. Besides, she’s leaving him out of her doings and doesn’t want to tell anyone that they’re married…
Well, now that Lorena and the boss know about the marriage, might as well tell everyone else.
JM should also cool his emotions. (So smart to punch a police officer.) Also: get another lawyer for Angie: Someone who can keep a cool head and not let his emotions get in the way. (And who knows something about the law.)
Paula is still there? GAH.
Nice to see the brother-sister team in action.
Soo… Bernie was behind the kidnapping, Estela gave the order (what order to whom?) to kill Miguel, but Miguel killed himself? They don’t really fit together.
I also wondered what Estela was doing at the Sandoval aviation company. What she told Ofelia might just be a cover-up. (Maybe she really isn’t as stupid as she seems, after all. She’s still evil, though.)
There have been quite a few marriages in the latest episodes. :) I like how different they have been (in terms of the ceremony as well as the related drama.). Only the priest has been the same. :)
Thanks for the recap, Novelera. Yes, there sure was a lot of action (and the usual dose of stupidity!)
I agree, JM has to be just about the worst top lawyer we've seen. Has he ever defended anyone, or shown any restraint and wisdom? Good looking guy, though.
I agree, now that Paula suspects Fernanda, Paula may not live long. Of course none of the good guys EVER suspect Fernanda. Bad guys Luis, Vicente and Ofelia know about her crimes, but all have reasons not to turn her in.
Estela is just terrible. I now expect her to kill that grey haired guy.
I was happy to see Sam and Miguel beat up those three thugs. The other day, Angela, despite her training, was unable to fend off a hooded Rat, and Miguel also could not subdue him. In fact, there have been numerous times when the various bodyguards have NOT been able to defend themselves, usually when the bad guy's face isn't showing. Sam has also been subdued or kidnapped various times.
But I'm not complaining. This wacky show never runs out of new stuff!
A ray of hope.
Miranda and Mauricio are led off to jail. Once there, Orlando shows up, and they beg him to help. He says he'll do what he can. He later decides to resign as prosecutor, and do what he always wanted to do, be a defense attorney!
Nena is flat on her back, can hardly move. Gonzalo shows up and gives her a little neck massage. He then kisses her, and she kisses back. They hear someone coming, and Gonzalo has to leave fast. But when he leaves, he grabs his knapsack, and I'm almost sure he was RECORDING his own kiss of Nena, with a hidden camcorder! Is this part of his plan of revenge?
Leo has decided his dignity isn't really worth that much, and calls the modeling agency guy, whose name I think is Vicente. Set me up with a client as an escort. I need the money. His first "client" turns out to be Monica! But it isn't clear if Leo will get paid for sex with Monica. What IS clear is that Monica is using her "charms" to put Leo under her spell. This is NOT good.
To clarify something I had wrong last time, Alejo is going with Diego to a store, but doesn't know it's to buy a ring for Nora. When they get there, Diego tells him. Alejo is a little hurt. But Diego says he loves Alejo, and he loves Nora. Guess who happens to be listening in 20 feet away? Nora! She bursts into tears and rushes away.
Later, there's a tense dinner at a fine restaurant, with Hector, Lupe, Nora and Diego. Hector announces that Diego has an announcement to make. Diego, trembling, gets down on his knees, pulls out the red velvet box, opens it to show Nora a ring, saying will you marry me? Nora is silent, tears welling on her face. Well, aren't you going to answer, says Hector. She runs out without saying a word!
Diego catches up to her, and she says I heard you. I'm not going to marry a guy who likes men! She later tells her Mom. I can't marry him. He's gay!
And maybe he is, as Diego comes up to Alejandro, saying, Ale, I want to stay over your house tonight. Why? To "probar", which means test out, or try out something. He wants to see if his body will respond to Alejandro the way he thinks it will. Alejandro is ecstatic! Go, Diego, Go!
Santiago is leaving for California, to try to track down Julia and Bea. Ana says there's something you should know. Julia didn't miscarry because of your argument. She fell down the stairs at school, and kept it a secret. She had laid a trap for me on those stairs, to try to kill OUR baby! Santiago says, I believe you, but why didn't you tell me earlier? Anyway, I have to go. But, says Ana, how are you going to find her in Los Angeles, it's a big city? I don't know, but we have various mutual friends.
Santi goes to LA, goes to the cops, gives them a list of all the mutual friends. The cop says kidnapping a child without permission is serious, we'll help you. We then see Julia in a doctor's office with Bea. The Doc confirms Bea has leukemia, and needs a donor. Julia says I've got several eggs (maybe fertilized) in a sperm bank in Miami. You've got to implant them in me, pronto! Doc says this is highly irregular, and will cost a lot. Don't worry about the cost, shoots back Julia (but how WILL she pay, by sleeping with the Doc?).
Okay, back to our heroes. JP shows up at the station with Cortes, the slimy high priced lawyer who's actually on JP's payroll. He screams, you have to let my wife go, she's innocent! Olivia comes out, quiet down, you're making a scene. Besides, haven't you told your lawyer that we're PARTNERS? Partners? says JP, what in the world are you talking about? I barely know you. And I assure you, if you've done anything wrong, officer, you're career is over!
Olivia is shaken for one brief second, but then replies, Okay, buddy, that's the way you want to play it. Fine with me. (So JP wants to keep appearing the good guy, and hand out Olivia to dry. But she's not easily outsmarted).
Olivia then goes to see Mauricio. You had your chance, Mau, but you threw our love away. Now you'll pay. Mau tells her they never had any love, and how can she be so mean and cold. He'll stop her. As she leaves, she shoots back, isn't it funny that Miranda's own husband, JP is the one who turned you guys in?!
She then goes to see Miranda, who is totally stunned, tells her you lost, Miranda, you couldn't get away with it. But your own husband, JP, is the one who gave us all the information on the cargo flight! Yes, Olivia isn't taking this lying down.
In Mexico, Walt actually tells Soledad his plan. We're going to kidnap Miranda's baby, and use him to get back the inheritance from Remigio that was rightfully ours! I still don't fully understand this, but oh well. He doesn't tell Soledad who the other part of "we" is (JP). JP calls, confirms Miranda is in jail, everything's under control.
Or is it? JP and Cortes want to see Miranda. Orlando comes out, says sorry, guys, but I quit as prosecutor, now I'm a defense attorney, am I'm representing Miranda for free! So Cortes, unless you can match that, you're off the case. And by the way, I'm going to investigate this thing TOTALLY, and whomever may go down, is doing down!!!! Cortes shudders. JP doesn't look too smug anymore.
Mauricio was actually released on bond, as his crime wasn't so bad, and Orlando lent Carmen money for the bond. (I think Orlando and Carmen may end up together). Mau sees JP, screams out, you turned us in! He rushes at JP and is restrained. JP is shocked, then sees Olivia across the room, a sly smile just crossing her lips.
Miranda has a needle for amniocentesis, and Mau a cheek swab for the DNA test. So soon they'll know if Miranda is pregnant, and by whom. Orlando tells Mau that things don't look good. Miranda could get five years, and could lose custody of the baby!
But as I mused the other day, what if the testing shows she was pregnant LATER, when she was in Georgia? There's finally some HOPE!!
Please ignore my typos, they make me seem as if I don't know the English language. When am I going to remember to proofread?
"Hang" out Olivia to dry
"and" I'm representing Miranda for free
"whoever" may go down.
Sorry!
One my typo:
"You're going down", not you're doing down.
And I just remembered, at the end of the episode, JP came to visit Miranda, but she didn't want him to touch her. Having been told HE was the one who turned them in, she glares at him, saying "Just who ARE you really? And what's REALLY behind all of this?" Will he tell her now? He DID tell Walt he was going to use Soledad's captivity to blackmail Miranda!
thanks novelara. great recap.
We don't know yet why Sam wants to keep her marriage a secret. I'm not sure if the writers know!
I also wonder if Willy's jealousy is going to have a consequence (further developments). If yes, it will be interesting. Tough his jealousy is somewhat understandable considering the fact that - unlike us - they don't know that Miguel and Sam are brother & sister.
Hombre, you cracked me up today with your multiple corrections! We forgive you! Your descriptions of the episodes are excellent.
What occurred to me as they brought out the big needle is this. Didn't Miranda have trouble in the beginning, maybe almost a miscarriage? And they go right ahead with amnio, which has a slight chance of causing such a thing?
I hope Olivia goes down hard.
I agree. There are some holes in the plot. JP helped Olivia make sure Miranda didn't leave. But if the amnio proves the baby is Mauricio's, then what claim do Walt and JP have on the child to somehow claim an inheritance?
Sandra Echeverría does despair and crying better than other emotions she's shown in this TN.
Hombre, I don't think Paula suspects Fernanda. The mistake she made was poking a stick at the snake, telling her SHE was also after JM.
Kihaku, when Ofelia went to the LA prison, I'm pretty sure both she and the guards used a male pronoun to describe the prisoner who would not see Ofelia. I still lean toward DD having killed Nora for her infidelity. It was stated early on that she was found having hung herself in Mexico. It's fairly common in murder plots for someone to kill someone that way and have it appear to be suicide.
Evil/Estúpida's plots kind of feel tacked on to me. I suppose they mean that she somehow told whoever was behind the kidnapping to, by the way, kill her unfaithful husband. It was clear in that scene in the car that the thugs planned to torture him and then kill him because he shot one or more of their guys. But he saved himself that and got rid of them as well.
Hombre: I agree that Angie hasn’t shown many capabilities (although she is fire resistant), but Luis is tough. (For some reason JM the lawyer with a desk job can hold his own against him.) The only times Sam has been taken down/kidnapped have been when she has been at a clear disadvantage. (Like when three or four of Leo’s men ambushed her or when the kidnappers barged in with guns in Mexico. Or when her boss drugged her (taking advantage of her vulnerable state) and stuck her in the mental hospital. She could still escape and cause a ruckus although she was drugged.)
I have missed the action scenes, though. Well, Sam should be taking part in a fight soon. :)
(Has Pablo got to do anything cool, yet??)
I think it was the 2nd episode after Angie had shot the sniper, when JM presented himself as Angie’s lawyer. (But that wasn’t a tough situation to handle.) Then there was the time he offered to take custody of Violeta. (I wonder what happened to that?), but otherwise… I don’t remember much. I guess he deals with the contracts at the company.
As for restraint or wisdom… He’s good at dealing with the little girls at least.
(Don’t worry. I proofread what I write MANY times and still somehow end up with typos. And I HATE it. However, I think they’re more worrying to the one who makes them than the ones who read.)
Novelera: Oh, I didn’t remember that it was male in that prison. I remember when Bernie told Darío that he didn’t kill Nora and there were other ways to get even. (Of course with Darío it was the kidnapping) But of course, he could have been lying. I remember Nora (officially) committing suicide with sleeping pills, though. (I originally thought Bernie drove her to commit suicide)Anyway, whatever it is, I don’t think we’ve heard/seen the last of it.
So Estela just happened to find out about the kidnapping and somehow has more influence/power than has been shown? Or/and maybe she was a contact on the inside, gave the kidnappers vital info and wanted to benefit from it. Well, I suppose that’s the closest to a logical explanation at the moment.
J in Oregon
Thanks so much Novelera. I'm trying to figure out where the writers are going with the DD and EE storylines. It seems like they have no real plan right now. I will cut them a bit of slack because ML's illness must have really thrown a curveball at them. It just seems like they are making things up on the fly, and then changing their minds about things a few episodes later.
As dumb ad JM can be, he never waivers in his belief in Angela. No matter what "proof" the cops have against her, he doesn't doubt her for once second. It must drive the Reptile batty. Good job JM.
gracias novelera for the delightful recap.
Vivi - yes, Telemundo tn writers like 'making things up on the fly.' it's so obvious. this is when I lose interest, and mostly use the ff button. they did it towards the end of Mas Sabe el Diablo (the best one yet imho), Fantasma de Elena.
Shallowgal--did you see Fuego en la Sangre? They did over a month of filler by having the hero get lost in a primeval jungle with a tribe of natives who had no electricity, no phone (but they did have an evil witch doctor)... Meanwhile the heroine spent the whole filler time wandering around moaning "donde esta m'hija?"...
:o)
J in Oregon
Oh my, J in Oregon, I did see Fuego en la Sangre. That jungle part was so ridiculous. The witch doctor wore a loincloth and Sofía Vergara played the doctor treating the villagers, trying to vaccinate them, while the witch doctor hated the idea of the vaccinations! What a farce!
Novelera--Wasn't that a hoot? I didn't realize that was Sofia Vergara. And I had forgotten about that loin cloth on the creepy witch doctor...Ewww!!!!
J in Oregon
J in Oregon - no, I did not see FELS. but your 'lost in the jungle' filler reminded me of Sortilegio's 'stranded on an island' scenario.
lol!
Shallowgal--hahaha! I didn't see Sortilegio...but it must be a required training for TN writers: how to deal with actor illness/incarceration/contract dispute/network scheduling changes, etc.
:o)
J in Oregon
J: Oh yes! I remember that! It was in one of the earlier episodes, when Bernie told Fernanda that it’s not easy to kill someone you love and confessed that he wanted to kill her mother, but couldn’t.
Hmm... hmm… I agree that Vicente seems a like very likely candidate to end up killing Fernanda. (He is being pushed and pushed… one day he might just snap.)
Vivi: I wish that the writers would try to keep their stories straight. I don’t mind silly and crazy plots, but I’d like for them to make sense in the context of the story.
(Not a big fan of the whole "Bernie is a suspect of a crime he already confessed to" idea, for example.)
Yes, JM doesn’t need brains or logic. He has got faith! (However, as admirable as that is, it’s still best for Angie to get the legal help elsewhere, while JM can give her strong moral support.)
Evil/Estúpida Estela tells the gray haired guy in the bar that he needs to wipe his memory bank of her. She gloats that he has no proof anyway. She tells him she’ll be able to “help” him soon because she’s going to be the wife of Bernardo del Castillo. She tells him she might have seemed cold, giving up her husband, having asked the kidnappers to request him to deliver the money, but she loved him more than her life. But he betrayed her, so he deserved to die.
Sam tells Vikingo and his snotty wife that she wants a cage fight that very night.
The jailbird won’t change his story that Ángela was behind all the killings, although he expresses sympathy for JM after he leaves.
Willy is alone, Sam having gone to the gym where they have the cage fights. Jefe, from his lair, calls Lorena and tells her no hay moros en la costa (the coast is clear). She comes right in and starts insinuating that Sam and Miguel are spending a lot of time together.
EE comes to the hospital to tell Despicable Dad how worried she is about Ángela. She tells him she met a sinister guy at the aviation company when she went to get that paperwork handled for him. Then she says she told the guy she and DD were getting married!
The Reptile continues to humiliate Vicente, addressing him as pastillitas azules. He grabs her arm and tells her the day may come when he’s fed up.
Willy calls Miguel, after Sam’s phone goes to voice mail. He asks where they are.
Paula tells Juan Marcos that he’s wrong about Ángela. She insists she’s doing this for justice. [No, she’s doing it to get Ángela out of the way.] Génesis comes downstairs and says she now knows that Ángela is a murderer, and she never wants to see her again. JM blows up at Paula and throws her out of the house. At last!
Violeta, having been moved into the Reptile’s snakepit by her selfish grandma, is crying to “Camilo” about her mother. The Reptile tells her to get out; she can’t stand crying kids. The Rat approaches and tells her she shouldn’t treat Violeta that way. He gets in her face and says that he IS Luis. And he wants Juan Marcos Arroyo to pay with his life.
Sam is introduced in the cage as “La Pantera Navarro”. She seems to be getting the worst of the fight. When knocked up against the wire of the cage, we see a triangle of moles on her back. The next scene is of Nicolás, the son of El Jefe, with identical moles on his back!
Willy arrives at the cage fight. Sam is doing better and starts to win, but Willy is disturbed seeing her hit. With another bloody nose, she finally defeats Vikingo’s wife (or girlfriend).
El Jefe goes to talk with his son and comes up with the usual stuff about the love having gone from his marriage with his mother, but he still loves the boy.
Duval tells Ángela that he’s against her because he doesn’t like women who put on a sweet face and commit crimes. We see another crazy example of telenovela justice. Ángela is to be transported to the maximum-security penitentiary without ever having a trial.
Sam and Willy go through the starting-to-be boring conversation about why she is spending so much time with Miguel. It’s kind of ridiculous he can’t see that she’s safer investigating things with one of the best bodyguards in Mexico than with him.
Jefe and Nicolás are enjoying a video game when the fairly vicious Guadalupe shows up and snarks at Jefe about pretending to be a good father. Then she tells Nicolás that his father left them for a woman named Navarro.
The Rat and the Reptile have fallen into bed again, and manage to consummate before Vicente shows up. The Rat runs up that convenient spiral staircase. Vicente is drunk and insisting on his conjugal rights. The Reptile bashes him in the back of the head with a vase.
Nicolás shows up at Sam’s apartment accusing her of having broken up his parents’ marriage. His mother told him so. Miguel and Willy both tell him he’s mistaken and that Sam only thought of his father as her boss. After the kid leaves, Sam reacts physically to his having been there. ¡la famosa llamada de la sangre! Jefe has been listening with dismay from his lair.
The Reptile and JM go to see the manager of the apartment where JM’s father supposedly “entertained” his mistresses. Of course, the guy recognizes a photo of Ángela as someone who was there all the time and who even had a key. (Huh? JM invited The Repile to go along. How did she even know he’d go there?)
EE’s face is dripping with glycerine tears as she talks with DD in the hospital. She says she needs to get Ángela another lawyer. She sets that stubborn jaw and says he’ll give her the money. Wait, better than that, she wants power AND money. She tells him he’s going to tell everyone he’s going to marry her. After he shakes his head no, she threatens to turn him in for his crimes (kidnapping and murder of Darío) if he doesn’t marry her.
We get cliché after cliché as Ángela arrives at the pen and is shouted at by the tough female cons about what they’re going to do to her in the shower.
Miguel leaves the apartment, saying he’s going to fight. He thinks he’s close to getting more information about the Rat. Willy doesn’t like it when Sam squeezes MG’s hand affectionately.
Ángela is put in her cell, and the stereotypically cruel guard smirks sadistically, telling her the others are already calling her muñequita. One of the cellmates introduces herself as Dolores and says that the other one is not to be messed with. She’s called La Madrina (the godmother).
Nicolás argues with his father about Sam. He wonders how his dad knew he was there and, of course, gets no answer. Finally Estéban admits that he likes Sam very much, but that he never had anything to do with her.
Pesky Lorena calls Willy to tell him she got work. She wants to come by with a bottle of wine and some food to celebrate.
The Reptile is frustrated after the visit to the apartment when JM continues to believe in Ángela. Paula has shown back up and sings her same song. She also says she’s going to get the best lawyer in LA to ruin Ángela. Génesis has turned brat and says she wants to leave the house with her Tía Paula.
Luis shows up at the gym looking for a cage fight. Vikingo tells him someone is looking for him, and he should stay out of sight. Just then Miguel shows up, saying he’s from Mexico, has no money, and wants a fight. The Rat has scuttled out of sight.
JM tells Génesis he’s her father, and she can’t leave with Paula. She says he’s not paying any attention to her. The Reptile pipes up that she’ll move in for a while to care for Génesis, who buries her head in Paula’s stomach and says she doesn’t want the Reptile.
A nasty prisoner comes up threateningly to Ángela in the cafeteria. She spills her tray of food. Quick as a flash, Ángela bashes her with the tray and tells her not to call her muñequita! The evil guard shows up, blames Ángela, of course, and tells her she’ll get no food today.
Nuñez has done some research about Sam’s child, and hands Jefe a folder. He opens it and says: “Nicolás?” Now THIS is going to be interesting. Jefe may either want to keep it from her or use it as a reason for he, Sam, and Nicolás to become a family.
Lorena is at the Casa del Castillo getting ready to cook for Willy. She says she wants to spoil him. She tells him she was like a geisha for Santiago. She comes up with more BS about how busy Samantha always is. Willy isn’t buying. He asks her if all this is to impress him.
Sam is spying at the gym. She sees the Rat on the phone and is astounded to see Camilo there. He manages to sneak up behind her and asks her if she’s spying on him.
I forgot to say that Nicolás is portrayed by Andrés Cotrino. This kid gets all the acting jobs! He was in Alguien te Mira, and practically the last scene showed him looking like a budding serial killer - like father, like son. He was also in La Casa de al Lado as the gay kid picked on by Miguel Varoni's character (his father).
Thanks for the recap!
I wish it were clearer why the kidnappers would listen to Estela. She is coming off as quite batty, which is entertaining. I enjoyed Bernie’s discomfort/horror at Estela’s ideas of marriage.
I like Angie’s cellmates. At least they aren’t as awful to her as many of the others (or even the guards.) I’m looking forward to the prison scenes. Angie as the "newbie" apparently is automatically hated, so I hope she has the chance to show the rest (who have no idea that she’s a trained bodyguard) that they should fear her. I liked that she stood up for herself (but it was silly of her not to eat at the previous prison. She must be hungry!).
Nicolas appears! For the time being I like the kid. Straightforward and with a tough attitude, plus he seems perceptive when it comes to his father. (And I hope he will eventually find out about his schemes…)
I’m also interested in how El Jefe will use the info to his advantage. ("The happy family" entered my mind as the worst-case scenario. I don’t see Nicolas or Sam falling for that without ruining their characters. However, the creepy boss can still use his son to get close to Sam and get her eternal gratitude for finding him.)
Thank goodness JM threw Paula out!! Hopefully she won’t be taking Génesis away. At least the kid still knows that there is something off-putting about Fernanda.
(Btw. I don’t think Paula is completely awful. She doesn’t know Angie and she knows that she has been arrested for murder… and two of the victims have been Paula’s mother and sister. It suits her agenda that Angie is guilty, but she hasn’t got a reason to believe otherwise.)
Hmm.. I assume that JM clarified where he wanted to go (offscreen), so Fernanda could "prepare the witness"…
I haven’t seen Alguien te Mira, but I remember Diego from La Casa de al Lado, which I haven’t managed to finish (but want to). I actually thought that the kid could possibly play Sam and Willy’s son. ;)
Great recaps of Friday and last night's episodes, Novelera. I was so crazy busy last weekend that I couldn't comment.
Angela's prison experience was totally predictable as you said. I am sure that "La Madrina" is going to have some important information. What a minute, could she the person that Odd Ofelia went to visit? I bet she is and will end up telling Angela her story.
Ah yes, blood calls. So after how many false kids, this is really Sam's son.
Was Paula staying at JM's father's love nest? How did she know about it since JM didn't know about it. Oh yes, private citizens don't get to hire lawyers to assist the prosecution in a crimnal case. She could file a wrongful death suit against Angela but that seems too complicated an idea for this novela where people go to jail without even having a trial.
How come everyone (DD and now, Nunez) can easily find out the truth about Sam's child but she and Willy can't?
Great recap, Novelera! I guess Genesis isn't that different from Violeta after all, doubting Angela based on Paula's word.
Jean, your idea that Madrina knows something is brilliant! Maybe we'll finally find out some of Ofelia's secrets (although we suspect a few).
I really hope Duval gets a comeuppance for his snide manner. I don't want him to be one of Fernanda's victims, though. I'd like to see HIM in jail.
A very fun episode, even if it had NO relation to reality. But let's just go with the flow.
Miranda tells JP she doesn't trust him anymore, what's his game, is he allies with Olivia, and the two of them are out to get her? Did he plan this all along? He AGAIN goes with the smooth talking, and deflects her rage a bit, but she still isn't sure.
The actor playing Leo has to be counting his lucky stars! Leo has a sex scene with Monica where he gets to press up against her topless body, telling her she's amazing! Yes, she is.
Lupe tells Hector that Nora won't marry Diego, because Diego loves both women and men. No way, bellows Hector, he's a true MALE (he uses the word varón, which sounds the same as Barón, his last name!) Diego does avoid Alejandro for a month - not sure what happened that night when they were going to "probar."
Miranda gets a sonagram picture of her baby. She asks the lady doc if it's a boy or a girl. Oh, it's too soon to tell, she says. This makes me think she was more recently pregnant, in Georgia. But Miranda thinks maybe the baby is too small. The doc says I'm not at liberty to say anything. The doc also doesn't want to give her the sonagram, but Miranda talks her into it. She then writes a love note to Mau on it.
Olivia comes in, rips the picture away, and stamps all over it! She also HITS Miranda, who starts hitting back. Orlando comes in and breaks everything up. He rescues the crumpled picture and promises to deliver it to Mau, who is overjoyed to see it.
Walt lets Soledad talk to Miranda, but she doesn't reveal anything. He tells Soledad he could have Miranda killed in prison if he wanted to.
Santiago is at his wits' end in Los Angeles, when Julia pops in! She says she's staying with a friend, Bea is fine. But she wants sex with him, right now! She doesn't have money for another in vitro, and if he says no, he'll never see Bea again! After a bit of soul searching, he says okay, but I have to see Bea first. That night, Julia is dressed up all sexy, when Santi knocks on the door. She opens it up, hi, lover! But Santi's with the COPS, who arrest Julia for kidnapping, and take her away! Santi rescues Bea and takes her back to Miami. Yessss!
A month passes. Not much happens, no prison rapes or anything. But Gil's arm heals, and somehow Julia is out of jail. She visits him, telling him she's now sterile! Yes, that trap for Ana really backfired. But she's not done yet! Gil gives her some money he's stolen from Teresa through her refinance, or something.
And now - the trial! Miranda is brought in, looking beautiful in a tan Grecian dress, black stockings, not really looking very pregnant at all. Mau is wearing a suit jacket, JP is with his usual plaid shirt and geeky sweater, other family members are there. And the whole thing is being broadcast live on the internet, so all the other cast members are watching, too! Gonzalo's friend Javier asks when he's going to broadcast his tape of the kiss with Clementina (Gonzalo apparently now knows how to tap into cable companies' shows(!), but Gonzalo says wait, the time is not yet right.
The prosecutor is a tough looking woman with pinkish red hair. She tells the judge, we want the maximum sentence, 15 years! The DNA proved the baby was Mauricio's. That test proved guilt. Orlando holds up a sonagram, and says it's proof of LOVE. He asks for just a fine, and let's release Miranda to care for her baby.
JP is sitting smugly with his lawyer Cortes. He's sure Miranda will go free, because the baby was conceived in Georgia. Then he can continue with his plan, and somehow separate Mau from Mir. But the judge announces that the baby was conceived in Florida! JP is enraged, that can't be. I paid that doc to pretend it was, but he told me Miranda was really less far along. Cortes says it's only 3 weeks' difference, anyone can goof. (I'm not sure what the deal is, but they're acting as if the baby really was conceived in Florida). So JP is screwed (ONE good thing!)
Miranda testifies, says she's sorry. Mau gets to testify. He tells the judge he's not a victim, MIRANDA is the victim. He loves her, and she didn't take advantage of him in any way. He lied about his age, that's why she did what she did, which is no crime! What IS a crime is what THAT WOMAN (Olivia) has done out of a sick desire for revenge after she couldn't get what she wanted!
Tonight, more fireworks!
Hombre, I was flabbergasted when they said she got pregnant early on in Florida! I was totally expecting they'd say it was Georgia. Now what?
I'll be out of town for a couple of days and look forward to your recaps to keep me current for this exciting phase of the novela.
Novelera: thanks for great recap!
Jean: I too was thinking that La Madrina may be the mysterious person Ofelia has been trying to visit in jail all these years, but who has refused her visit.
I couldn't help staring at the food-tray throw-down: how do they rate fresh green broccoli in prison? Looked like fresh carrot also. Did they just grab something from the studio commissary? They should have used white bread and mystery meat with gray gravy?
:o)
J in Oregoon
Jean: Wasn’t the person Ofelia visited in prison a male?? (I missed it myself and assumed that the person would be Nora...)
Judging by how the Godmother was introduced, it seems obvious that she will have some info and/or play a vital part. (Is she the right age to be Nora? I’m not yet convinced that Nora is dead.)
Heh... I thought Paula believed that she could hire a prosecutor herself or somehow influence who would be prosecuting. (And who knows, maybe that’s possible in this novela.)
Angie is awaiting trial, but I guess the hearing part was skipped.
Okay… and now I missed Paula referring to the love nest? I don’t remember this… (However, this info might already be general knowledge by now.)
I think Sam and Willy just always get the crappy investigators.
Hombre: Well, Génesis and Violeta are both just little children, who should be in therapy and not have to listen what adults whisper in their ears. I WAS surprised that Génesis would believe that Angie was behind the murders though. It just doesn’t seem like her.
I don’t have any issues with Duval. He has been a bit of a jerk, but he thinks he’s talking to a vicious murderer, and is "understanding" with JM, so he didn’t arrest him for punching him. He trusts the overwhelming false evidence and unlike the viewers doesn’t know Angie. I think a just comeuppance would be for Duval to realise that he’s wrong and feel like a fool. To deserve prison... I’d expect him to commit an actual crime first. If having a bad attitude were enough most characters should be behind bars already.
Thanks for the recap!! I don’t really follow this properly, so I don’t catch everything.
Has someone been fiddling with test results again or was the baby really conceived in Florida?
Of course the kids are watching the trial at school and don’t have any lessons.
At least Mau finally pointed out that Miranda didn’t know he was underage the first time they slept together (So: no crime. Why didn’t Orlando go with that defence instead of the emotional one?). Unfortunately, they’ve both already lied before in court, so their credibility might be questioned
By the way… fifteen years??? (Isn’t that... excessive??)
Kihaku: They've said earlier that even if an underage person lies about their age, it's still a crime to sleep with them. May not be fair, but that's apparently the law (in this show). But yes, this should influence the length of the penalty. The prosecutor is requesting the maximum sentence, maybe to win points as a tough on crime prosecutor.
I also thought it was funny that the prosecutor brought up the fact that Orlando has switched from prosecution to defense, and totally insulted him in open court. She said he couldn't stop the drug ring that led to his own son's death, and now wanted revenge against the system or something. Even if there was some truth to this, it should have been discussed in the judge's chambers, not in open court, in front of the entire world watching online!
I guess in the world of the show there is no such thing as mens rea/criminal intent. I don't remember (but I have missed quite a bit) that they mentioned before that it would still be a crime. Okay then.
And in light of that I suppose it's not at all strange that a prosecutor can openly insult the defence attorney. What she's saying sounds like slander to me. And yeah, speculations of a lawyer’s integrity should have been brought up before the trial. During the trial and the way they have apparently been presented, changes the nature of their purpose drastically… Ah, but why am I even trying to reason? This show has its own rules! With the trial and the law being so unpredictable... anything can happen!! (I didn't watch it properly, but I think I have to go back and check it. Looking forward to more haphazard proceedings. :) )
Not that these novelas have anything do to with the real practice of law but concerning mens reas, there are certain types of crimes called "Strict liability" offenses where mens rea, or the guilty knowledge that you are committing a crime is not required. Minor offenses, such as parking violations, are one example but it also applies to more serious crimes such as drunk driving and what are called social welfare crimes like statutory rape and other sexual offenses involving minors. The rational for these types of crimes is that the welfare of the minor takes precedence over the possible innocence of the defendant - in other words- be careful who you have sex with!
In response to Sam´s question about why he is hanging around the gym, the Rat says that he is a fighter but really he’s trying to clear Ángela. Miguel hears part of this and after the Rat leaves, he and Sam agree that they don’t believe a word of it.
El Jefe can’t believe that it is a coincidence that his son Nicolas has the same dates of birth, etc. as Sam’s child. He wants to find the truth. If Nicolas is Sam’s child, he thinks that would be great.
Lorena puts the moves on Willy who has been left alone while Miguel and Sam are out investigating. Estela comes over to announce that she and DD are getting married. Willy tells Lorena that he doesn’t like her or the idea of her marrying his father.
Ángela displays her self defense skills by defeating two other prisoners who attack her.
It makes absolutely no sense for DD to pretend that he can’t talk except that it would be difficult for the guy in the bed to lip sync Manuel Landeta’s voice. So DD writes on a white board. He tells Odd Ofélia that Estela wants to marry him and asks for her help. OO refuses saying that he brought this on himself and she is sure that he and Estela will make a lovely couple.
While having sex with the Rat, the Reptile says that Sam has becomea nuisance and her time may have come.
Willy hates being left alone in the apartment with Arturo.
Paula begs to stay in JM’s house. She promises that she won’t try and poison Génesis’ mind anymore. She says that her niece and JM are the two most important people in her life.
La Madrina tells Ángela that she has been in prison for 25 years “por infiel,” “for unfaithfulness.” She says that she believes that Ángela is innnocent. She tells Ángela that her name is Nora. So now we know that this is DD’s wife.
OO tells DD that for years she has been bringing food to a friend who is in prison for a crime that she didn’t commit – it’s Nora, DD’s wife.
Lorena show up at the apartment again. [When Willy gets a bottle of wine, I finally realized that the wall decoration in Sam’s apartment that looked like toilet plungers with short handles was a giant wine rack.]
El Jefe asks Guadalupe if Nicolas is Sam’s child. He notes that Guadalupe was a good friend of Perla. Guadalupe denies it.
The Rat and Miguel fight in the cage and Miguel is victorious. The Rat has to be carried out.
Willy and Lorena get drunk and Lorena fall asleep on the sofa, which puts Willy into a panic.
Nora tells Ángela that she has 2 children but they don’t know that she is in prison. They think that she is dead.
Miguel tells Vikingo that Ángela is innocent and asks for his help.’
The Reptile is sticking pretty close to JM. They are together at JM’s house when Vicente shows up drunk. He says that the Reptile loves JM, not him and announces that he will tell JM who the real Reptile is but before he does that, the Reptile hustles him out.
Sam leaves the gym alone and the Rat in a hood attacks and knocks her out. He starts to take off Sam’s pants preparatory to a rape when Vikingo’s girlfriend, whose name I don’t know, intervenes. Sam comes to and saves the girlfriend in turn by producing her gun. The Rat escapes without his identity being revealed.
The guy from the airplane hangar that Ofélia threatened comes to see Sam but she’s not home. He has something to tell her but he won’t tell Willy. He says that he will come back in the morning.
Vikingo refuses to help Miguel exonerate Ángela.
The guards arrange it so that Ángela has to fight another prisoner. Ángela gets the worst of it.
Sam tells Vikingo’s girlfriend that she is looking for evidence that will clear Ángela and believes that the Rat is involved in the crimes. In gratitute for helping her, the girlfriend tells Sam about the video tape and agrees to give it to Sam the next day. [Like that’s going to happen.]
Ángela wakes up in the prision infirmary and JM is there. He asks how she is and she says that she is pregnant.
Thanks, Jean. I love your understated style, which allows the wacky events to speak for themselves. So Angela is pregnant! Well, I wouldn't be surprised if Sam also turns out to be pregnant soon.
I thought I could recognize the Rat/Camilo's voice when he was fighting Sam, but I guess she didn't.
They've definitely set this novela to go on for quite a bit more time, with new characters and now a pregnancy.
Thanks, Hombre. I think I commented before that it was surprising that there had been so few pregnancies on this novela. I agree that if Ángela is preggers now, Sam will soon also be. I predict that they will give birth at the same time and both will have little girls who will grow up to be
best friends just like Sam and Ángela.
I think somebody said that they saw "nueva etapa" applied to this novela but I haven't seen that much less, "etapa culminente" so I agree that Corazon is going to go on for a while.
We only have Escobar being promoted for "julio" presumably to replace Relaciones and "Rosa Diamante" for "verano" presumably for Una Maid since that one is in "ultimas semanas."
As long as they keep the action going, I don't care how long Corazon goes on. When it was preempted for soccer last week, I missed my nightly fix of incredible plot developments!
We're not just in final weeks, anymore, we're in final WEEK. All of a sudden, this show is ending, with little fanfare. Either it ends this Friday, or maybe next Monday or Tuesday, but there's not much left, so the remaining episodes should be doozies!
In the trial, it's Olivia's turn to testify. Unlike actual trials, this one consists of very few questions, lots of long speeches by the witnesses, the attorneys and the crowd members. But it does help the drama. Olivia starts out smug, agreeing with the prosecutor that she saved Mau and Mir's lives when they were in Georgia. She was just doing her duty. She lies a bit about Miranda, prompting an outburst from Mau. But when Orlando asks her if she had sex with Mau, she tearfully admits it. He then goes on a rant, about how she abused her position. Also, she's only 3 years younger than Miranda (6 1/2 older than Mau), so what are we really talking about here, since Olivia's sex was legal. Olivia just sits there sadly.
They recess for the day. Tomorrow JP will testify. He tells Cortes he won't leave any loose ends, such as that ob-gyn who said Miranda got pregnant in Georgia. He goes to visit the doc, pulls a gun, forces the guy to write a note to his wife, then HANGS him!!!
In Mexico, Walt shows Soledad a picture of himself and JP. That's Miranda's husband, says Sole. What's he doing with you? He's my brother, says Walt, we had this set up all along. But the idiot fell in love with Miranda. So there's only one way you and she can live - if you convince Miranda to leave Mau and go with JP, so we can get the baby. That's your only way out!
Now for some REAL fun! Joaco has somehow gotten himself into Augusto's house, and disguises himself as one of the waiters for tonight's engagement dinner between Augusto and Pati. He then sneaks upstairs, and sees Augusto doing exercises. He's been faking! He finds Pati, all dressed up in a white gown, and tells her. She's amazed, and summons Augusto in. Augusto at first denies, but Joaco literally twists his arm until he admits it.
So Pati says, new rules. We'll go through this dinner tonight, and you can keep faking. But Joaco's moving into this house (I think it's Pati's mother's mansion), and we CAN be intimate, and you KEEP paying for Joaco's defense. Okay? (she doesn't have to say "or we'll have you arrested for fraud" it's just understood). Augusto caves, okay. Yess!!
Leo pictures Liz while looking at Monica. He loves Liz, but knows it's hopeless. Monica wants to be introduced at his house. Uh oh! He agrees. Back with the kids watching the trial on the internet, he tells Liz he'll never stop loving her, but he understands how she can't be with someone whose father killed her parents. Yes, he's met someone new, and will introduce her soon.
Gonzalo tells Javier, "Now!". Javy presses a button on his IPad, and the TV the kids are watching the trial on suddenly switches to show Clementina making out with Gonzalo! Leo is totally humiliated.
Nora wonders why Diego is barely paying attention. He whines, please marry me Nora, for your immigration status, or for whatever. You don't know the nightmare I'm living. My father's trying to cure me of my being gay, by administering electroshock!!!
Back at the trial, it's JP's turn to testify. Again throwing everyone for a loop, he takes FULL responsibility, says it was all HIS idea to get married, and Miranda did nothing wrong. He'll gladly take any penalties. This sort of leaves the lawyers speechless. But the prosecutor says then why did you give Olivia Kloster the info to turn in Miranda? I didn't, he lies. Olivia is insane. Olivia goes nuts, you liar! you cheat! how could you betray me?! JP calmly observes, see, look how batty she is, no hold on reality at all! The judge threatens to remove Olivia from the courtroom 3 or 4 times, but they let her stay, stewing in her own juices, her life ruined, she can't prove anything!
We then see a parade of character witnesses, all our cast members. Finally, the judge wants to hear from Miranda. She must choose her words wisely. After that, he'll announce his ruling.
Tonight's the night. Will the judge allow love to bloom? Or will he bring down the full force of the law, condemning poor Miranda to the carcel!!!!!?
And Julia, the REALLY batty one, has kidnapped Bea AGAIN! There was a restraining order, but at Bea's play group, there was a substitute in charge, and since Julia's the Mom, she let Julia take Bea. Julia goes to the bank to deposit the cash Gil gave her. She leaves Bea in the car, says don't talk to anyone, and seals up the car. She's a bit woozy, since she's been popping pills. A few hours later, the bank guard wakes her up on the bank floor. She fell asleep! What about Bea! Outside, the police have discovered someone locked a kid in a car. They break the window, and Bea is unconscious! Julia can only watch in horror. Santi meets them at the hospital, and Bea is in very bad condition. Not only that, this has worsened her disease! Oh, you BAD Julia !!!!
Thanks Jean
Liked the Miguel-Camilo fight scene and Sam's facial expression was great.
I just can't stand JM-Paula scenes. Ridiculous filler.
It seems that no one works in this novela! It would have made more sense if the villains were after money.
Jean: Yeah, I know mens rea doesn’t apply to all crimes, but I thought it would to this one. (Or at least that it would have relevance) My bad. Thanks for clearing that up. :)
Thanks for the recap!
I also just realised what the strange decoration was as soon as I saw Willy take out the wine bottle!
I miss Willy in the middle of the action. I wish he could do more than sit at home waiting for Sam, talk to Arturo (although I did like their talk) and get hit on by Lorena.
I really liked how Nora and Angie connected. And I hope this means that Angie can tell Willy… and Fernanda that their mother is alive when she eventually gets out. Actually, I want Nora to get out as well. But before that I want more prison scenes... and more about Nora. I’ve been looking forward to her character (well.. a few eps at least) and think she could be interesting (especially in relation to the other members of her family). :)
The timeline confuses me. Darío said he and Nora had their affair around the time of Sam’s kidnapping… which was 18 years ago. Even if he had been lying, it seems strange that Bernie had revenge on Nora and then waited 7 years for his revenge on Darío. Also, 25 years ago Willy would have been too young to remember his mother or her "death".
Andrea (I think that's her name) and the grey-haired guy are doomed. Why is it so hard to reveal information? There wasn’t any reason for Andrea not to tell Sam what she had seen. It’s not like she has to worry about "spoiling it" for her.
And another guy tries to sexually abuse Sam. Yeah, it was weird that Sam couldn’t recognise Luis’s voice. He wasn’t even trying to disguise it. (Then again, she thinks he’s dead.)
Btw. Sam regains consciousness pretty darn quickly!! (Twice!)
I liked seeing Angie show how tough she is… but then of course she had to lose the fight so the predictable pregnancy would be revealed.
Of course there will be pregnancies. :) Oh, and Emma will have to get pregnant as well. It’s only fair.
But yeah, there is time. I actually can see this telenovela going on for quite a while as well. And I’m not ready for it to end either. As long as there isn’t the typical break up the couples nonsense. This novela has so much action, murders, secrets and plotting that there is no need for unnecessary drama.
Thanks so much Jean. I'm not going to be able to catch up on this till this weekend. Too many things in my dvr right now.
Let's hope Angela has more luck in her pregnancy than Sol did.
I'm sad to hear that Genesis has been hit with the same personality disorder that Violeta had for so long. When Violeta had it we called her Ratita. Should we make up a nickname for Genesis?
In spite of the Reptile egging him on, Vincente can’t pull the trigger to kill himself. The Reptile tells him to stay out of her business or she’ll pull the “gatillo,” the trigger.
Ángela tells JM that she doesn’t want her baby born in prison. JM assures her that he will do everything he can to get her released.
Nicolás tells El Jefe that he doesn’t want to know who his biological mother is. His only mother is Guadalupe and he is going to Spain with her.
Willy and Miguel are worried about where Sam is. Willy is going to go find her when she comes home. She says that she finally has the evidence to help Ángela. Then she sees Lorena asleep on her couch covered up with her sheet. She gives Willy 5 seconds to explain what she is doing there. Willy explains that they were having dinner together but Lorena drank too much and passed out. Sam makes Willy take Lorena home since she is too drunk to take a taxi.
Miguel tells Sam that he is going to find the aviation company guy.
Emma asks Peralta if he believes that Ángela is innocent. Peralta replies that he does believe her absolutely. The Paula shows up, orders Peralta out of the room and tries to make Emma doubt JM’s faith in Ángela. Emma obviously has doubts but she doesn’t agree with Paula.
Miguel suggest to Sam that they ignore the DNA test and just act as brother and sister. [There is Subway product placement (breakfast sandwiches) followed by a Subway ad.]
JM tells the Reptile that Ángela is preggers.
Vikingo’s girlfriend, Andrea, gives Sam and Willy the DVD but Vikingo shows up. He doesn’t want Andrea to give away the DVD. There’s a struggle and the DVD is broken. Andrea swears that she didn’t watch it and Vikingo won’t talk about what’s on it even at gunpoint.
Miguel goes to see Estela and tells her that he will find out the truth about who killed his father from aviation company guy.
Nora tells Ángela that she is safe from the other prisoners. Ángela shows Nora some pictures of her nearest and dearest including a photo of Sam & Willy. Nora is impactado but doesn’t tell Ángela that she recognizes Willy.
Peralta’s mother (I can’t remember her name) shows up at the apartment. Emma tells her private chef to hide. The mother is in tears; she went to the casino and lost big time. Emma isn’t very sympathetic until the mother tells her that she lost the house that Peralta gave her. Things are boiling over in the kitchen and Emma’s little culinary deceit is revealed. Emma says that there advantages to being a millionaire. She will help Peralta’s mother if she keeps quiet about the private chef.
The Reptile tells the Rat that Ángela is preggers. They agree that this baby cannot be born.
JM meets with a woman named Ines who claims to be his father’s long time mistress until he dumped her in favor of “the cake woman.” She identifies Ángela’s picture as that woman. Ines directs JM to a woman named Fabiola who is supposed to be his father’s illegitimate child. [Presumably, the Reptile has hired a cast of thousands to incriminate Ángela. Does it occur to anyone to check up on this testimony?]
Odd Ofélia finally can´t take any more of Evil/Estúpida Estela´s endless bragging on how she will marry Despciable Dad. She tells EE that she can´t marry DD because his first wife is still alive.
A morose El Jefe comes to see Sam at her bodyguarding agency saying that his world has been destroyed because Guadalupe wants to take Nicolás to Spain.
One of the prisoners decides to kill La Madrina and gets poison from the corrupt guard. La Madrina apparently has a special tray of food. The prisoner sprinkles the poison on the food. When another prisoner knocks Ángela’s tray onto the floor, Nora offers her food to Ángela.
Guadalupe shows up at the office of Sam’s bodyguard agency and says that El Jefe had better sign the papers letting her take Nicolás out of the country or she will reveal all that she knows to Sam.
Paula comes to see the Reptile and offers to ally with her against Ángela. The Reptile declines the offer and passes on the information that Ángela is pregnant.
Miguel and Willy go the aviation company to find the guy who came to see Sam. Since the guy only wants to talk to Sam, he runs away from Miguel and Willy. Then Miguel and Willy see EE arrive at the hangar.
DD is making more calls to Cecilia.
JM is with Ángela when the poison takes effect.
Nicolás shows up at Sam´s agency and tells El Jefe that he has changed his mind. He wants to know who is biological mother is.
I came in halfway through this one, unfortunately, but I was just in time to see the two biggest things I ever wished for on this show finally go down:
1. the fall of Gonzo (and by extension the apparent official end of Team Douchebag--yes!) thanks to the video stunt in the previous episode. Max punching him out and taking out Javier with a beer bottle was satisfying enough, but they actually took it to awesome when Benita, long-suffering Benita, smacked the taste out of his mouth and declared that he destroyed everything he touched. Let alone that he should now finally be by himself, as he's always wanted.
2. a newly pissed-off Miranda finally--and repeatedly--smacking the taste out of Olivia's mouth after they both got sent to IKEA Women's Prison (Miranda for ten years, Olivia apparently for one). And this came on top of America and Miranda's other "prison friends" swearing they would have their chance to say hi to the ex-cop as well...
Having missed too many episodes this close to the end of all things I'm really fuzzy on the whole JP/Cuahtemoc/Soledad thing; if I have this right, they're brothers and the sons of druglord Remingo whateverhisnameis, who cheated on his wife with Soledad and led said wife to commit suicide? Okaaay...and Cuahtemoc apparently killed Soledad in the half of the episode I missed, so after that he's just blithely chatting away next to her corpse with JP by telephone about his getting out on bail long enough to somehow steal Miranda's child after it's born, pull a dead baby lie, and blame it on Mauricio. It's not bad enough that they're narcos (and how the hell does Telemundo manage to narco up every novela they've produced since 2009?), but they're potential baby-stealing narcos? Did I accidentally tune into an episode of General Hospital or something?

I agree that the time line is screwy. Probably sloppy writing.
There's also a definite inequality in DD's revenge. The only permanent damage from Sam's kidnapping was Miguel's death. Dario wouldn't care about that. So DD's revenge on Dario was that he suffered a few days of anxiety about Sam while DD's wife spent 25 years (or some long period of time) in prison and never got to see her children (Nora did hesitate when referring to the Reptile as her child) grow up. Not exactly equivalent.
Bill, nice to see you back. You pretty much have it right about Walt (Gualtemoc) and JP. Here's a little more about last night's episode.
Before we get to the trial, what about our other characters? Nena's back is much better, she's happily talking to Benita, when Leo shows up. Mom, here's my new girlfriend! They're horrified to see that it's Monica, who smirks that she seduced the father, and now the son. She gives Leo an envelope, here's your money for being a male prostitute, to pay for your Mom's operation! Nena stumbles back in shock, messes up her back again. Leo throws the envelope back at Monica, I don't want your dirty money! Oh yeah, well, look inside, she replies. It isn't really money, it's a court order that I'm petitioning to get ownership of this HOUSE, since Andres took everything else away from me (this is a lie, of course). You'll all end up on the street!!
Nena yells at Leo, how could you sleep with that woman? Yeah, but Mom, how could you kiss Gonzalo? He shows her the cellphone. Nena just about faints, and Benita tells her you're scum, and walks out.
Later, Leo goes to Javier and Gonzalo's place, and as Bill said, knocks out Javy with a beer bottle, stomps Gonzalo, and later Benita says Gonzalo crossed the line, and SHE's leaving him, too. She'll try to win back Bob and Emily. Yes, both Gonzalo and Leo got what was coming to them.
Julia apparently is giving up. Gil gives her another envelope of cash stolen from Teresa, and Julia says she's going back to Hollywood, to be a successful actress. We'll see.
But what about little Bea? Her only hope now is if the baby Ana is carrying can be a donor. But Ana isn't sure if the baby is Santiago's (good) or Gilberto's (bad). Dr. Hector has the results. The answer is....we'll find out tonight.
Meanwhile Diego is desperate. His father is forcing him to get electroshock and having this famous "therapist" inject stuff. He's going nuts. And the shock is sort of working, every time he thinks of Alejandro, he feels a shock! He begs Nora to marry him. He never wants to see Alejo again! Alejo just happens to overhear this ONE LINE, and leaves in despair.
And now, the wonderful, wacky world of telemundo trials. Although it was Miranda's case, and no one else had a lawyer, the judge decides to sentence EVERYONE! Really!
After Miranda tearfully admits what she did, but gives an impassioned speech for her baby, the judge has his fun. Pati gets 4 months' community service. Mau also gets 4 months' community service. JP gets one year in jail with no possibility of parole. Olivia also gets one year in jail with no possibility of parole, and she's also kicked off the police force. JP's lawyer Cortes is ordered to wear a donkey costume for one week, and since he kissed JP's rear, he has to kiss the rear of all the cast members. Wait a minute, I made up that last one, Cortes actually doesn't get mentioned. What was I thinking? :)
And in order to set an example, our esteemed judge quotes Aristotle, who said "the law is reason not guided by passion." So he then passionately and with NO reason sentences Miranda to 10 years with no parole!! Oh well.
Back in Mexico, Soledad sees this on her international TV, and gets desperate, I've got to escape. She grabs Walt's gun, but he's too fast, grabs it back, and KILLS her! Booooo!
Orlando says they'll try to appeal. JP says get me out before Miranda's baby is born. Carmen says she'll try to raise the baby if they don't give custody to a foster parent. Mau says he'll wait for Miranda forever. When they can't reach Miranda's mother, Mau says he'll even go to Mexico to check things out (that should be interesting).
In the prison, Miranda sees all her old buddies from the last time. Now they like her. They hate Olivia. They set it up so Miranda gets Olivia alone, and Miranda lets loose all her rage, punching and slapping Olivia numerous times. And it looks as if Olivia's night in the prison has just begun!
Great recap, Jean! We should take bets on who's next to be killed. Possible candidates?
-Jimenez, the airport guy, knows too much
-Andrea, Vikingo's girlfriend
-Vikingo
-Guadalupe, Jefe's wife
-Nora. If she gets killed (and the other prisoners are trying), Estupida Estela won't have that bigamy problem, and could marry Despicable Daddy. You say he doesn't want to marry HER? No problem, I've seen novelas where they take the guy in the cast, bring in the preacher, and if he doesn't speak up, they're married!
-Vincente, although I think they'll keep him around for a while
-Cecilia - also knows too much
Yes, it's tough being a minor character.
I would bet on:
Jimenez, Airplane guy
Cecilia (except that she seems to be useful as a conduit for Bernie to communicate). In fact, I wonder if she wasn't supposed to die in the distracted driver accident but was brought back simply to get calls from DD.)
While Vikingo knows about the Reptile, he seems to be ok unless he starts to feel guilty.
I seem to recall that Vikingo saw the Reptile somewhere and told Andrea - that's the one who is responsible for the murders. So she may not have seen the video but she knows. That would put her in danger especially if Vikingo tells the Rat that she wants to give info to Sam.
Guadalupe is a possibility especially if it looks like she will tell Sam about El Jefe's video room.
I am guessing that Vincente will be involved in the destruction of the Reptile so I think he will stick around.
Here's who I wish would get killed:
Paula
Estela
Wow, that trial sounds absolutely bizarre!! The judge threw people in jail who had never even been arrested, much less had a trial?
What a wacky show!
Thanks for the recap!!
Bernie has a twisted sense of justice… something he and his crazy daughter have in common. Of course he already was cheating on his wife with Darío’s wife, so he’s a hypocrite, which goes well with his idea of who is allowed to do what and who deserves to be punished. This guy’s behaviour seems (to me) narcissistic, since it’s all about HIS rules, HIS feelings, what HE wants and how HE has the power to control everyone and they'd better obey and do what HE says. HIS revenge came before the welfare of his own children. He and Estela the delusional, who also likes punishing for infidelity without thinking of her daughter, actually deserve each other.
Maybe DD wanted to hurt his wife more, because to him it was a bigger betrayal? On the other hand… didn’t he tell Darío that he wanted to kill Sam? I suppose THAT would have been a massive punishment. Originally he wanted to kill Nora as well, but couldn’t, so he wasn’t following his original plan there either. Also, he continued sleeping with Perla and in the end he did kill Darío. (Probably not planned. Or I don’t know. They were on top of a building for some reason, after all.) I suppose as long as the culprits are somehow punished for what they do to HIM, it doesn't matter if he can't follow through with his original sentence.
(Yeah… Nora hesitated referring to her daughter… and Ofelia hesitated before saying she was Fernanda’s aunt... )
I liked seeing Willy back in action and with Miguel Jr. at the company. It didn’t really make sense that Sam had to stay behind, since she probably knows the company better, but of course she had to be around so El Jefe could talk about himself as a father (and Nicolas's adoption could come up).
Ofelia continues to randomly reveal secrets. (That’s why it’s good to keep them… so that they can be revealed when appropriate.)
I liked the scene when Nora got emotional when she saw the wedding photo. I’m not sure if Nora recognised Willy (since it’s not exactly clear if she has seen recent pictures of her children…) or if it was a "feeling". She did ask Angie to clarify, who the couple was, after all.
Is Angie going to end up nearly dead in hospital again??
Hombre:
Ooh… Guessing who will die next!
I suppose all of the ones you listed will die eventually, but yeah, Vicente will be around for a while longer. I too think he’s a good candidate for playing a part in Fernanda’s demise.
I’ll be MAD if Nora is killed off soon, because 1. I like her 2. For storytelling purposes it makes no sense to have her not be dead just to kill her off so soon 3. She NEEDS TO meet Willy (and I guess Fernanda as well)
My guess is also Jimenez. I thought Andrea would be gone soon, but the DVD is broken. Still… I think she’s toast… She knows about Fernanda and got on Luis’s bad side. (Both she and the Viking could have saved themselves by handing the DVD to the police, but of course that would have required sense.)
Oh, and I’d also like to see Paula and Estela killed off. I didn’t think Estela would… but since she’s clearly evil now, she'll be punished. Paula isn’t a terrible person, but she’s annoying and I just don’t want to see her anymore. (Actually… she is a likely candidate to die soon anyway.)
Others I wish were killed off:
Angie’s evil inmates and the evil prison guard
Who I want to suffer and get their comeuppance before being killed off/sent to prison:
Bernie
El Jefe
Luis
Fernanda
I hope it’s worth the wait.
Thanks for the recap!!
I still have problems sitting through this. The trial was a good laugh though with the judge sentencing the witnesses as well. :) I think a donkey costume would have made perfect sense considering the nature of the trial and at least would have shown that not even the writers took it seriously. (They can’t possibly?)
Btw. JP was also ordered (sentenced) to annul his marriage to Miranda, if I remember correctly.
Shouldn’t Miranda have had the right to a trial by jury given the severity of the crime she was accused of?? (That probably could have helped…)
I guess I’m one of the few who actually feels sorry for Olivia. She has been malicious and vicious and has taken advantage of her position, so she has actually brought everything on herself. However, I didn’t enjoy the beat down and knowing the awful time she will have in prison. It seems to me that we’re supposed to hate her a lot more than I actually do given her actions especially compared to others. For example Gonzalo is still on the loose... (Though I think there's more lying ahead for him.) Leo terrorised Cassius. I think Monica is A LOT worse than Olivia as well. Oh, and there’s Hector, who has been torturing his son. Well… come to think of it… the list is too long. Almost all the characters have done something questionable (including Mauricio, who got Miranda into the whole mess). I expect and hope that the bigger criminals will be punished, and I doubt JP will have to deal with just one year in prison. Are there enough episodes left though??? (And speaking of bigger criminals… why isn't Julia behind bars and where is Victor?)
Kihaku: I agree with everything you said. Yes, JP is no longer married to Miranda. And I also don't hate Olivia that much, certainly not nearly as much as a stone killer like Victor, who also abuses women. They HAVE to bring him back and punish him. I'm guessing there are 4 or 5 episodes left. As I've said before, the writers can wrap up everything very quickly if they want to. Let's hope they do so in a satisfying way.
Did anyone think that Nora and Sebas were going to end up together? Come to think of it.....what happened to Sebas? I missed that somewhere along the way----or is he just another dropped plot???
Yeah, that’s sort of my problem. I think that’s the main reason that Olivia is supposed to be hated and has to pay: Getting in the way of the main couple. I like the character, because despite her questionable actions, she’s still human and not clearly a villain, but on the other hand it seems like she is supposed to be (a villain), and to me that’s not coming properly across.
So Victor has apparently got away??? (I have no idea… I have missed those episodes) Yeah, he is just too bad to go unpunished.
Well, the last episodes will be quite eventful, then. :)
Scoot:
Sebas moved to D.C. I don’t know what the writers had in mind, but whatever it was it was dropped. (Nora&Sebas and Ale&Diego could have solved the love square nicely. Of course there’s still Hector, who needs to be put in prison.)
Wow! Lots of plotlines wrapped up, a few pending. They COULD end it all tonight, but my wife says they need a cliffhanger for the weekend.
First, Nora/Diego/Alejandro. Yes, Sebastian moved to DC to live with his Mom, separated from Orlando. Sebastian liked Nora, but couldn't see being with the former girlfriend of his dead brother. Diego and Nora approach Hector and Lupe - Yes, we're engaged! Later, Diego meets with Ale, shows him the marks from the injections, tells him of the electroshock "treatments". He just couldn't take it anymore, HAD to marry Nora to stop his father's insanity. So you never really cared for me? asks Alejandro. No, I DO care for you, says Diego. A LOT. Let's have a farewell hug. They hug desperately, and either that's it, or the hug turns into more. Maybe we'll see tonight.
Benita, who dissed Nena last night, has mellowed, now THANKS her, and the two, while going their separate ways, are cool. Benita tells Nena that Leo is basically good, give him a chance (he did refrain from actually killing Gonzalo with a dumbbell when Benita said you're better than that). Nena explains to Leo how she never slept with Gonzo, only a few kisses, she knows it was terrible, but she hadn't felt wanted in so long, with the way Andres was. Leo and his Mom will work thing out, but it'll take time.
Gilberto is practicing forging Teresa's signature, when Liz comes in, fresh from dumping Leo and Gonzalo. Gonzo left, but did say to Liz that she was the best thing that ever happened to him, and he'll try to turn his life around. Anyway, Gilberto says he's finally signing the divorce papers from Ana, who was too much for him. He thinks men should be with younger girls. Somehow, Liz is not creeped out, and Gil's plan to seduce her is working!
Hector tells Ana and Santiago that Santiago IS the father of Ana's baby. Hurray! Hopefully, when the baby is born, it can be a donor and save little Bea. It seems that Julia really has left for good, although you never know if there'll be some last minute appearance, as in horror movies :)
Well, we were all wrong on who was the next to be killed!
Guadalupe asks the orphanage lady not to tell anyone about Nicolás' biological mother. Orphanage lady replies that they have a strict policy against such disclosure.
Jimenez, the airport guy, tells Estela that he fingered Darío for the kidnapping and that Willy offered him money to say otherwise. Estela replies that she's getting married tomorrow and will have more money than anybody.
Nicolás tells El Jefe that he can't remember anything before he came to the orphanage. Jefe tells him that if Nicolás agrees not to go to Spain, Jefe will try and find out about his biological parents.
The Reptile wants Vincente to seduce Paula to keep her away from JM. Vincente replies that he is up for the job but the Reptile is doubtful.
Ofélia bursts in on them to report that a wedding dress has been delivered to the house for Estúpida/Evil Estela's wedding to Despicable Dad. The Reptile is impactada.
Ángela finds out that she has been poisoned and she is afraid that she will lose her baby. [Maybe because Ángela is pregnant, we don't have the usual fake flatline suspense this time.]
Sam tells El Jefe that she didn't know his son was adopted. Jefe makes a surprisingly sincere speech about being afraid that he wouldn't love a kid who didn't carry his blood but he does love the kid as if he were his biological parent. Sam tears up hoping that her child is getting such love. Then Sam gets a call about the attempt on Ángela's life.
Willy and Miguel accost EE on her way out of the airplane place and ask her what she was doing there. She replies that she came to see Jimenez to find out the truth about who was responsible for Sam's kidnapping and she found out that it was Darío.
DD is out of bed. EE tells him that they are getting married today. She doesn't care if DD's first wife is still alive.
Nora figures out that she was the intended victim of the kidnapping.
Willy tells Sam that he is getting to like Miguel.
Miguel threatens Jimenez with a gun and demands to know the truth about Sam's kidnapping. Jimenez replies that DD ordered the kidnapping but not the killing of Miguel Sr. He doesn't know who did that.
Miranda has given Olivia a beating, and her own hands are hurt from it. She tells Conejo it really wasn't so satisfying. Three other inmates, led by América, REALLY beat Olivia to a pulp, blood coming out of her mouth. But she tells the guards that Miranda Cruz did it all. Miranda denies, but the guard says you're in big trouble now. Conejo tells her the others are going to go back for Olivia later, and FINISH the job! América does go where Olivia is lying in the infirmary, takes a pillow, and starts to smother Olivia to death! But Miranda rushes in, and knocks América out! Olivia recovers, you saved my life! Miranda says if you withdraw your complaint, we'll be even. Olivia does, tells the guards she lied earlier, Miranda didn't give her the extreme beating, it was América. They take América away, and our two ladies can live in prison in peace.
Several months pass, and it's time for the baby to be born! JP actually got out a month ago, and is plotting in Mexico. Victor shows up in Mexico, too, and I think he's going to help with the kidnapping. Walt tells JP that killing Soledad was a just revenge. Now it's money time.
Mauricio is allowed into the jail as the baby is born (Carmen, too), and it's a girl! Mau wants Miranda to name the baby Miranda, or maybe Isolde (I think they're going with Miranda). Orlando has gotten Mau custody, so he and his Mom will raise the baby. Carmen is so grateful to Orlando, who tells her she's the most beautiful young looking abuela he's ever seen (yes, these two will be an item). Mau says he'll bring the baby to visit Miranda every day, but she tearfully says no. She doesn't want their daughter to see her in jail and grow up seeing this. She sort of wants Mau to wait the ten years, and THEN they'll get back together. Mau grudgingly agrees. They do let Miranda have 24 hours with her baby, but then she has to say goodbye. She doesn't even want the nurses to take the baby to weigh her, doesn't trust anyone.
With good reason. JP's plan is in motion. Victor is in town. But who shows up at JP's door? Olivia, looking hot as a pistol, hair lighter, bangs perfect, wearing a JP/friendly plaid shirt, unbuttoned down to the valley, her bounteous assets overflowing. She tells JP she saw Victor, a wanted criminal outside. But she's not here for that. She's not a cop anymore. She wants JP! They both lost out, she lost Mau, he lost Miranda, but she always had the hots for JP. She slinks up against him, starts kissing. He's kissing back.
But we see that in her handbag, she's brought a gun! Is Miranda now working for the good guys, somehow trying to bring JP down? !Ojalá!
EE comes to see Ángela in the hospital and tells her that she is marrying DD. "For love or for ambition?" asks Ángelo. "Me caso," "I'm getting married," is all that EE replies.
Guadalupe tells El Jefe that Sam is not Nicolás’ mother. She doesn’t like that Jefe has gotten Nicolás interested in his biological parents.
Sam tells Willy that Ángela is pregnant. Lorena brings Violeta to see Ángela. Willy admits that they forgot about her. Ángela tells Violetita that she is going to have a little brother or sister. Violeta seems to be happy about this although it means that she will get even less attention from her mother.
Lorena tells Willy that she is looking for an apartment. She asks if they can be friends. Willy agrees and they embrace.
Miguel goes to see DD. He tells DD that he knows that he was responsible for ordering Sam’s kidnapping. He says that DD will pay for that but Miguel will wait until DD is better, then he will cut him to pieces.
The Reptile congratulates the Rat on trying to poison Ángela. The Rat replies that it wasn’t him.
JM tells Peralta that he is happy that Peralta and Emma have decided to use Emma’s money. Peralta is muy impactado when JM tells him that Emma withdrew $100,000.
Emma gives the money to Ana, Peralta’s mother. She promises never to gamble again.
Nasty Paula tells Génesis that Ángela is pregnant. Génesis is upset that her father didn’t tell her himself.
JM brings Ángela some drawings that Violeta did but when Ángela asks about Génesis, JM has to tells her that Paula has filled Génesis’ head with lies about Ángela.
Vincente makes his play for Paula. He tells her that he wants to help her against Ángela but she pulls her hand away when he puts it over hers.
Miguel tells Sam and Willy that DD ordered Sam’s kidnapping. [This is a little awkward because of course they already know this from the best source – DD himself.]
Miguel tells EE that he knows that DD didn’t order the killing of Miguel Sr. and he will find out who it was. EE insists it was Darío.
The info that Nuñez brought El Jefe is not enough to prove that Sam is Nicolás’ biological mother. He goes to Sam´s apartment and begins searching for a DNA sample. Logic would say – search in the bathroom where hairbrushes and toothbrushes usually
live but Jefe is looking in the living room. He finds a hairbrush buried in the sofa cushions.
EE suggests that Miguel’s mother had a motive for killing Miguel Sr. because Miguel Sr. knew that he had fathered a child with Miguel’s mother but Miguel Sr. didn’t care. Miguel refuses to believe this.
Willy tells Sam that DD deserves to die for ordering Sam’s kidnapping.
Peralta returns to the apartment. The chef has left his phone at the apartment and he intercepts a call from presumably the chef’s girlfriend asking if he is still with Emma. Peralta says nothing to Emma but goes to take a shower. The chef returns for his phone and the jig is up on the private chef. Peralta is not as concerned about that as he is about what Emma needed $100,000 for.
Vincente returns to the Reptile to report failure in seducing Paula. Out of nowhere, he tells the Reptile that DD pushed her down the stairs causing her to lose JM’s baby and become sterile. [Of course, Vincente doesn’t tell the Reptile that he actually did the pushing on DD’s orders.] She doesn’t believe it at first but Vincente tells her that DD didn’t want the embarassment of not only having an ugly daughter but having one who got pregnant out of wedlock as the result of a bet. The Reptile is impactada.
EE marries DD. He gets to leave the hospital, too.
Ángela is all better and back in prison. Nora tells her that she was the intended victim of the poison. Ángela tells Nora that her mother is going to marry Bernardo de Castillo and Nora replies that is impossible – she is married to DD.
The Rat comes to see JM and gives him a notebook that he found among Luis’ possessions. It details all the crimes that Luis and Ángela committed as accomplices. JM is impactado.
Finally, we get to the reason for this whole build up, which was pretty obvious. DD doesn’t go to his house. He goes to a boat. [You’d think since he was blown up on a boat, he wouldn’t want to go back to one.] He’s sitting there, still all bandaged up when an unknown person comes and shoots him multiple times. [This plot device was very common on American soap operas but I don’t think I have ever seen it on a Spanish novela – a whole bunch of people are given motives for killing someone and the viewers don’t know who did it. Inevitably the police arrest the wrong person. The police are so stupid on this novela, I wouldn’t be surprised if they arrested Ángela for the crime even though she was in prison when it happened. I guess Manuel Landeta isn’t able to return to the novela or they just couldn’t continue with the bandaged substitute.]
Hombre, did you mean to say at the end of part 2, that Olivia is now working with the good guys?
Jean, we don't know for sure. Olivia is on her own. But I THINK she's trying to bring down JP, and maybe even get to the bottom of the whole plot.
Whoops! You're right. I meant Olivia. Hopefully Miranda is also working for the good guys. :)
Thanks Jean for the recap. Saw 5 minutes of this. But when Nora told Angela the poison was meant for her, did she not say it was taken care of? Did they show how?
Jean, awesome recap. Yes, of all the possible people to get murdered, no one thought of Bernardo. But you're right, it makes sense with the actor having those medical problems.
So who shot DD? Well, I seriously doubt it was Willy. Miguel said he was going to wait. Sam wouldn't do it. Ofelia wouldn't kill her own brother, would she? That leaves Vicente (my choice) and Fernanda. Or maybe even EE, for the money! Or Jimenez? As you pointed out, we can be sure the police won't have a clue.
Nellie: Nora did say that she would take care of the poisoner and gave a significant look at the prisoner who was responsible but we didn't see if she did anything.
Thanks, Hombre. Motives were clearly given for Willy, Miguel and the Reptile. I guess Estela would have one, too, although with DD dead, there doesn't seem to be any reason to hide Nora's existence and Estela's marriage will be revealed to be bigamous.
I'm sure it's not Willy or Miguel. It could be the Reptile, of course, but we've known about all her murders. I guess Vicente could have done to keep the Reptile from finding out that he was the person who actually pushed her down the stairs.
But I think it is some dark horse like Ofelia or some person about whom we know nothing.
Oh, I forgot to mention in the recap that Ángela finds out that she having a boy. So there goes my theory that Ángela and Sam would both have girls to recreate their childhood friendship. Too many girls already, I guess, with Génesis and Violeta.
Olivia showing up at JP's was unexpected, though between the parting shot of her pistol and the promo for tonight's episode I have a sneaking suspicion that she's trying to exact some sort of penance from JP for her time in prison (possibly with his screwing with Miranda as a bonus) and...well, one way or the other I suspect she's off the canvas by the end of the episode.
Speaking of "bounteous assets," though: what happened to Yesenia?
Gilberto macking on Liz--under the circumstances I shouldn't have been surprised, but still...ew.
As for Diego and Ale...am I wrong or are they the last couple-to-be standing on the show? (Maybe they're timesharing the mantle with Orlando and Carmen.) And as such they wouldn't not let them finally get together before the end of all things, would they? (This ideally should be punctuated by someone smacking Hector a couple of times, but I don't think anybody's in a position to do that.)
This has me perplexed. If EE knows that DD is still married to someone else, why would she leave DD alone. I mean she being so money hungry etc wouldn't she be with DD to have him sign papers saying all goes to her or did she do that prewedding? She's thought of everything, I would think finding out he's married she would have made sure to take care of this. I just don't understand why he went to the boat.
Also was that really DD in that bodysuit? If not can we add the real DD to the list of killers? I don't know, as the interviews with Manuel state he had to leave the show twice. But my bet is definitely Reptile. She does not hesitate, she just kills.
All above is sheer speculation on my part.
Thanks for the recap!
Nora figures out that she was the intended victim of the kidnapping
(Just a small correction: poisoning)
NO! Not Bernie!!! That’s just too easy and quick a death for him! Where is the suffering? That’s so unsatisfactory! To be killed off like a minor character!! (If he really is dead and/or if it really was him who was shot, that is) But at least there’s the whodunnit plot to follow. Obviously with a lot of suspects to make it fun. It’s easier to say, who it isn’t. Hmm… I don’t think it’s Fernanda either… and wouldn’t Estela have more power with DD alive?? I doubt he’s leaving her anything in his will. Ofelia is such a wild card. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was her, although she would have had better reasons before. Btw. has Nora got any power reaching beyond prison? Although she doesn’t seem to know what’s going on out there, so that’s unlikely. Vicente… that would make the most sense out of the current suspects. I think it’s whoever tried to kill him before on the boat. Personally, I hope it’s Rodrigo, just because I want him to make his appearance soon. :) Or someone completely unexpected… like Cecilia, who has had enough of being the guy’s lackey. :)
I suppose in-universe Willy is the biggest suspect, since he openly stated that his father deserves to die and Sam stupidly told Esteban that she’s afraid he’d kill his father. Now El Jefe could try and gather false evidence and witnesses to get him out of the way. Except that Fernanda just did that with Angie and it might be too repetitive.
So, when Bernie confesses, he’s a suspect, but when a guy who has lied before about who was behind the kidnapping says it’s him, he totally did it? All right. And all of a sudden Willy decides his father deserves to die when it didn’t cross his mind when he thought that Bernie had tried to kill him? (And he had a lot of time to think on the island.)
Great that Fernanda knows the truth (So, she didn’t believe JM when he said that he wasn’t even at the party). Of course, Vicente should have to answer for keeping it from her for so long.
I wonder why Willy never told her that their father was responsible. (Or did the writers forget he knew?)
Also, at the adoption agency didn’t Guadalupe say that she found out through Perla that Sam was the biological mother? Which doesn’t make sense, since Perla didn’t know where her grandkid was…
I liked Miguel Jr.’s expression/reaction when Estela blabbered on, and how neither he nor Sam took her seriously.
Also, I hope that Miguel Jr. and Willy really do become good friends.
Reasons why DD went to the boat:
1. The rocket ship was in the shop
2. He wanted to "sail-e-brate"
3. He wanted to float the idea
4. The wedding had not yet sunk in
5. The writers were all wet
6. I don't know, it all seems fishy to me.
Hi to all. I'm coming out of lurkdom again - this time for the summer because now I'll have the time to watch CV regularly (yay!) A million thanks, again, to the dedicated recappers and commenters who post regularly.
I have the gist of the novela, but there are still some confusing things. The Dario/DD/Estela revenge thing is a mystery. There's too much "pot meet kettle" WTF-ery involved for it to make sense, so I won't try. All of the players are/were hoes - including Perla and Miguel, Sr. Also, how does Ofelia fit into that bag of mixed nuts? I would not be surprised if Nora had had an affair with Miguel Sr., too, and Fernanda was Sam, Ángela, and Miguel Jr's sister.
I did NOT expect them to kill off DD so soon! I had just made an out loud, sarcastic comment about him when my daughter walked into the room and said, "How did the mummy get on the boat?" Then they blew him away. It had crossed my mind that when his facial bandages were removed, the writers might give him a new persona played by another actor or by the original actor with dark, overgrown arched eyebrows and a blond wig like Camilo. The original actor was great at being a guy that you loved to hate. DD was such an integral part of why many of the characters are so obsessed. As Jean said, the writers have done well at giving so many people a motive for killing him -- that is, if he's REALLY dead. With this novel it could be another fake out. It'll be fun speculating about it and seeing how things eventually pan out.
Basic comments and a few pet peeves:
I like how the writers have allowed the viewers to see some happiness, sweet romantic moments, and quick reconciliations between the good guy couples throughout the novela. It seems that Fernanda has stacked the odds in favor of success in planting that seed of doubt about Ángela into JM's mind. If/when this happens, I hope Paula isn't successful in seducing him. I want him to continue believing in Ángela.
I like that the wardrobe people have allowed most of the women to wear pants sometimes instead of a constant parade of minis and stilettos. The cleavage is not as "in your face" as I've seen it in other novelas. I'm tired of JM walking around in a suit all of the time although he's been losing the tie lately. They live in Caifornia! I'd love to see that hunk wearing cargo shorts, a t-shirt, and sandals sometimes (Willy too), and with rumpled, unsprayed hair. Speaking of ties, why does Sam's bodyguard team have such mannish looking uniforms? I understand the pants, but the ties could be problematic in a scuffle.
Am I the only one who thinks that Fernanda and Luis look like fraternal twins?
Why does the front door at JM's mansion open outward? That drives me nuts.
I actually gasped and uttered, "No!" when Luis was going to rape Sam. I'm glad the writers didn't go there (as was I with the pedophile angle that was squelched early in the novela).
Why haven't so many seemingly intelligent, highly trained bodyguards noticed the surveillance cameras in Sam and Willy's apartment yet?
My two female German shepherds think Arturo is hot, but they resent the fact that he's been dumbed down. Any GSD worth their salt would not allow anyone (even if they knew the person) to enter their home when their master or mistress wasn't home. Arturo's sense of smell is 300x that of any human and he could be the key to outting Fernanda, Luis, etc. Why has he NOT been trained in tracking and protection? Too logical? Maybe he's delirious because he's malnourished and his muscles have atrophied from lack of exercise. Toilet water must have sustained him so far. His bladder must be made of steel.
I realize that all of these things are what are known as "Novela Conventions." I'm just sayin' ...
Carry on! I'm enjoying this.

J in Oregon.
Love your comments, Novela Newbie and Kihaku!!!
You're right, poor old Arturo never gets any exercise.
LOL on the ties of the female bodyguards!!
Concerning DD's possible death-
To me it seems like there are two possibilities:
1. The writers are very clever and mummy guy wasn't DD. How DD got somebody who was blown up to pretend to be him is a mystery.
In favor of that hypothesis is the mysterious telephone calls that DD made to Cecilia but never spoke a word to anyone else.
Against this hypothesis is the communications that DD made with his white board, which seemed to reflect an understanding of DD's situation, which some stranger wouldn't have.
2. Is that the writers faced with the loss of an important character did the best they could. Manuel Landeta's voice is very distinctive so his replacement mummy guy could never speak. When there was nowhere to go with mummy guy, they decided to kill off the character with a mystery shooter.
I thought about reconstructive surgery, too. That's an old soap opera trick. There is a the voice problem but the new actor could have some kind of hoarse voice that was damaged by the explosion. If the writers went that way, you probably couldn't bring the original DD back so maybe that's an argument for theory #1.
But really who knows.
Thanks Jean
As for Rodrigo, I think the character was going to be Gabriel Porras but then the writer changed her mind and created Miguel Jr.
Thanks for the recap!
Poor Olivia... but I liked how Miranda saved her life and Olivia showed her gratitude. They’ll prob. always hate each other, but thanks to not being awful people, could get into a safer environment.
Oh… and I like that Olivia is going after JP. :) (And Victor?)
So… instead of reporting Hector for his abuse Nora and Diego decide to get engaged?
Okay…
Bill:
I don't care about Carmen and Orlando, but I hope Diego and Ale can get their happy ending. I assume Mau and Miranda will as well (at least after a time skip). I wonder if Leo and Eli are completely done though... Anything can happen I suppose.
Nellie: Hmm.. if Estela did make DD write a will in her favour or something, she’d have a motive. She wouldn’t need to marry him for that though. Otherwise, it’s enough that she’s "officially" his wife and can thus reap the benefits, I suppose. Perhaps she felt confident enough after they got married, so she didn’t mind waiting for him to return home by himself.
Novela Newbie:
It has been hinted that Ofelia is Fernanda’s mother and Nora isn’t. Not that it would take away the possibility of Nora’s affair with Miguel. :) (But I’d rather she had had an affair with someone, who could be Willy’s father instead of the awful DD) It bothers me how worshiped Miguel is when he, after all, did cheat on his pregnant wife. But apparently that’s Perla’s fault. (Although she wasn’t married herself at the time the affair begun.) Yeah, all the older parents have really got around. Even JM’s father apparently had affairs. (At least one with Gloria’s mother… but who knows how much truth there is to the false evidence.)
Ofelia just hates every woman who is close to Bernie… her relationship with him is weird. Half of the time she's helping him, half of the time she's against him. I don’t really get her, but it seems like she knows all of Bernie’s secrets… except whatever the deal with the boat was. (Or who knows??)
What was the sarcastic remark? ;)
I had similar thoughts as well… that they could have a different actor portray DD, since the explosion could have “changed him physically”.(Although I would have preferred the original one. :) ) I also thought he was too integral to the plot and had too close ties to major characters to be killed off so soon… and in such a way… so I suppose I’m hoping that he's alive or/and that this is all part of the plan. Like you said, with this novela you never know. :)
Speaking of clothes, despite the more situation-appropriate outfits, at times the inappropriate high heels have been quite jarring. I don’t get the ties either.
I wonder who will end up discovering the cameras eventually and how.
Arturo is good at detecting bombs at least. He is a trained police dog though, but seems too docile. I didn’t understand how he just let the creepy boss carry Sam out of the apartment, so I suppose in light of that it’s not that strange that he’d allow him to enter when nobody is around. (Still, I’d expect some sort of... instinct??)
In general:
Hmm… maybe DD could have made the switch before he got on the boat? The mummy in the hospital at least does seem to have been DD. He had the phone there and he acted like him (as mentioned).
There is a lot of mystery surrounding the boat… (liked your suggestions, Hombre.:) Something is definitely fishy. ;) )
Whatever he had been planning… maybe Cecilia would know? (So even if he is dead, there’s still that mystery.)
He also told the nurse to leave him alone, which was a little strange… was he expecting someone?? (Or did he just simply want to be alone? The person with the gun showed up immediately.)
But I suppose in the next episode we’ll find out if the person who was shot is dead and how it will be determined that he’s officially DD.
All sorts of stuff happens on boats in this novela. Usually someone gets shot (or shot at)… DD was blown up, but at least Sam and Willy got married on one.
NovelaObserver:
Rodrigo still exists and he owns the Sandoval aviation company. Ofelia recently mentioned him when she was at the company and ran into Estela. Miguel’s first child and Rodrigo were mentioned around the same time as well: after Darío tried to commit suicide.
Does anyone else think that this novela needed like 10-20 or so more episodes? The whole thing seems to be just wrapping up too too fast. I don't mind flash-forwards, I guess, but it seems rushed. It happens in novelas, I know. But still....
And another thing: did anyone else think (this might have been mentioned--I'm kind of new) that the show went haywire when the focus went from the school to the adults? The whole point in the beginning what that things were slightly realistic. These were things that happened in a high school. It just turned crazy!! Part of the "novela" I guess.
Anyway----It looks like Sebas and Nora will end up together anyway. Nora and Diego seem to have a loveless marriage. Ana and Santi also seem to have a rocky marriage (money problems). Her tone with Santi reminded me a lot of what she sounded like sometimes back in the beginning with Gilberto.
I assume we'll see some of the other students in the last episode.
One episode left!!
Due the low ratings that the novela had in the beginning they had to make some big changes in the story which is why there was a change in the focus from the teens to the adults. I am disappointed that this had to be done because I was more interested in the teen stories than the adults. I still did enjoy the novela though.
