Refugio Para el Amor #37-38 Wed 6/20/12

Hi! I must admit that I lack the fortitude for these two hour episodes. I just get so tired by 9, and I can barely finish the recap. Is there any generous soul out there who could save my butt by blogging the second half of this show? I would be eternally grateful. I'm wistfully thinking back to the good old days when a show was a show, lasted an hour, and I could wrap it up and get something else done before I fell asleep!

Thanks thanks thanks!

Gala is talking to her girls and telling them that OBVI Rod doesn't have any real feelings for the servant girl. That hussy just threw herself at him, and, you know, "a quien dan pan que llore?" (Who cries about getting free bread?).

The next scene is in a temple so bizarre that I think it's a dream sequence. It's a hollow earthen dome with circular bleacher-style seating carved into the earth and candles everywhere. I studied Mexican archaeology when I studied abroad, and I was not aware of any indigenous cultures that built things that were round. Luci is having her moment of love with Rod, and the camera twirls around them. She wears the traditional white dress and hot pink headband of her native culture, and he wears the ugly sweater of his. They smile and kiss!
It doesn't last long, though. As soon as they leave they run into a pouting Arichel (this show's version of Familia's Temo), who doesn't want Rod getting mushy with his Luci. They walk him home.

Gala is scheming with Lastro about Luci. Lastro is trying to get her to cough up for some dirt on the girl.

Rosalena's neverending fit continues to not end. Matilde tries to tell her how much simpler everything would be if she let her son make his own decision (right? but then that would eliminate 95% of this show). Rosalena will not have her son marrying a servant. Frigida to Matilde: "You're betraying your boss."

Ugh. Rod makes nice with Arichel, who makes him spit-swear to protect Luci as her new guardian. They spit in their palms and smear them together. "Es un trato!"

Rosalena is praying to HER virgencita (my mom's first reaction: ooh, she's praying to some evil witch. To be fair, the shrine was very dark and she wasn't totally paying attention) to distance Luci from Rod.

Pat to Maximino: the only thing you're going to do with this effort to stop Rod from getting what he wants is pushing him away from this house.

Luci's mom tries to give her the "You two are from different worlds" talk, familiar from dozens of movies and plays. I think my favorite version of this talk was in George of the Jungle when the heroine's mom tries to convince a be-loincloth-ed Brendan Fraser to stay away from her daughter... But I digress. Luci pouts a bit and ignores her. "Look me in the eyes and tell me if you want a hard life full of troubles or a happy life," the mom asks. Leading the witness?

Aldo calls Vicky, who is trying not to wake her dad. She goes down to the street to smooch Aldo, but her dad catches them in the act! "Is HE your osito?" The dad proceeds to grill the terrified boy.
Rosalena is freaking at Max for not being mean enough to Luci. "What, do you work hard, day and night, trampling your enemies to make more money, just so your son can get with a serving girl?"

Rod proposes, but asks the mom's permission! Mom flips out, runs away, the friend follows her, and Rod looks surprised and unhappy.

Rosa is hyperventilating in bed, and Max can't sleep. She blames him for being self-centered. He reccommends she see a psychiatrist and heads off to the couch, while she mutters "te odio" into the pillow.

Aldo tries to argue with Vicki's dad. "We're friends!" "Friends don't kiss on the mouth."

Luci's mom and her friend do an awful lot of overacting and alluding to her terrible secret.

Rod decides to head into the lion's den, confronting the scary mom.. You'd think if he was planning to propose, he'd wear a less-awful sweater. He tells her he's ready to do absolutely anything for Luci, and she says she thought the same thing when she gave birth to Luci and held the girl in her arms. She makes one last pathetic attempt to stop him with the "your family won't accept her" speech, to predictably little effect, and the cheesy music plays!

Gala flashbacks to Rod's speech at the engagement party, and finally gets what a jerk Rod was to her and everyone.

Mom gives them her reluctant blessing to fight every day to stay together.

Violeta will now get to sing every day!

Rod wants to climb the mountain to see the sunrise. He also says that if necessary, he'll separate himself from his mom, but he will never renounce his happiness.

Rod jumps rope in his empty new apartment, and ignore's Gala's call. In fact, he throws his sweat-towel at it. Then he gets dressed up, puts on some cologne, and smirks at himself in the mirror. Then he goes to Dad at work to tell him he's going to Marry Luci. Max advises him that love and marriage are two entirely different things. He should know, right? Then Rod asks him not to tell Rosa or Gala.

Luci is making pots, happier than ever!

The cheeriest villain I've ever seen strides in to find Luci at her pots. He tells her that it's his house now!

Frigida overhears Rod telling Pat about the proposal, but Matilde catches her and chides her for it. Gala prepares to do something drastic. She calls Lastro and tells him she wants everything on Luci, no matter the cost!

Vicky tels Aldo she can't date him because she's already going out with an old married dude. She leaves, and he sits down in a swing and feels small.

Luci's mom and her friend go to Galdino's grave and over-act some more.

Serapio, the undertaker wants a new image for his business. What could that be?

Rosalena is mad that Rod didn't let her know that he was home. She accepts that he can go back to his own apartment, but he tells her that he went to see Luci and her eyes bug out a bit.

Gala's meeting with Lastro: gives him a fat envelope of cash. He looks inside, frowns, and tells her that Luci used to attend clients in an "antro de mala muerte" (house of ill repute? den of iniquity? wretched hive of scum and villainy?). She wants the facts. It was at Inferno, Lastro says, and she she "served the clients," and there was one guy in particular who got super mad! She wants proof... he said the guy withdrew his suit after it became clear that someone in the Torresland family was protecting her! He'll give up one last detail if she pays up a little more.

Rosa to Pat, when he says that Luci was like a Torreslanda: I am capable of forgetting that you're my son!

Gala's mom has come to Infierno to get dirt... she knows luci's brother works here. Vioteta sees her and gets nervous. Vicky appears to have changed her mind about Aldo. Violeta unlocks a door for Luci's bro, the "favor of his life."

Aldo goes in, gets on the security computer, looks something up and starts loading it on a thumb drive. Gala asks Violeta (who's waiting on her) if she knew a Luci who worked here, but Violeta covers it up. Aldo and Vicky get caught! each says - he invitred me! They're terrified, and race on out of there. She's sobbing. She admits that she's been dating his uncle Max. That's it.

Meanwhile, Rod sets us up for the gossip-bomb by calling Luci the purest girl in the world!

Thanks for reading, guys!

Thanks Ezra. Hilarious as always. I'm still chuckling.

Indeed, Rod is setting a trap for himself and Luci by going on and on about the pure, non-deceptive stuff. But I swear, I'm going to flip my lid if he gets huffy about the Inferno event, since HE WAS THERE! Good grief. I'm already getting upset thinking about it.

Clarifications: It's Luci's mom's house that Aquiles is bragging that he owns, and plans to sell. The house he barged into is Magda's house. Don Serapio wants to buy Paz'z house. He says it's for his biz, but it's really because he's sweet on Paz and wants to give her back her house. All of this will be moot, because Claudio called to tell Luci that Aquiles has no legal hold on her family's properties.

I was shocked Vicky came out and told Aldo the truth about having an older married lover, and then admitting that it's his uncle!

Madelaine gets lucky tomorrow by getting yet another wedding/near wedding. Can you believe it will be exactly one week since Rod last attempted to walk down the aisle? What a week! Let's see if this wedding is as eventful as the last one.

Ezra, thanks so much for your always humorous recap. Your style of writing is always a pleasure.

You are right about Paz and Magda, they are really over acting.

So the het het has a huge mud hut. It looks very native indian, I am going to do a little research. Of course, the native indians didn't have any candles.

I just knew that Aldo was going to get caught. He is playing a very dangerous game.

Vicky needs to dump Max!

Rosemary Primera

Oh, and Paz didn't say she gave birth to Luci (which she didn't), just spoke about when she was first placed in her arms (which was true).

Good work, Ezra.

What on earth made Rosaelena the way she is? I hope we get to find out.

Gabriel Soto needs to have someone work on that beard; the style is very unflattering.

Ezra this was wonderful laughed too while reading it. I always love your recaps. These are long, I know, cause I do two nights of them as,Vivi is doing too, but this one is so interesting, although there are so many things going on. Te odio (did I do that right) Lastra, what a pig. Luci is pure as the driven snow, and he goes around saying she is basically a ho. He wishes. May the anvil fall on him hard.

Love how hard Claudio is working for Luci. Making sure her Mama gets her lands and house back. So Don A just shows up at Magda's. Glad he didn't try to drag Luci out of the house.

Julie is horrific worse than Gala. And the tagging along with Conny and Oscar. Conny and Oscar looked like they wanted to hurl jus' sayin' lol. So Julie is going to hire a PI to get dirt on Luci. I don't think they will find much, unless her birth comes up. Thank goodness Vio protected Luci by lying about Luci evaa working there.

Poor Aldo, he is so into Vicky, and what exactly does Vicky see in Max anyhow. Aldo is much more fun, and she can go out in public with him, and not have to hide.

Rosa is beyond redemption. I thought Rod said if Rosa doesn't like him marrying Luci and she gives Pato a hard time, he can just move in with them in the apartment to get away from her. I really hope Pato does that. He doesn't need her abuse. She is horrible to everyone, and Frigid never misses a chance does she? But Mati is catching her more often. Good for Mati.

I know a lot of people think Magda and Paz overact, but personally I like them. They are typical Mamas worried about their kids. I especially like the actress that plays Paz, cause I really liked her in PVAA. She was great there. I like Het Het completely and also Don Serapio. Agree with you Vivi, that Don Serapio wants to buy the house to give to Paz, because he knows Don A is swindling her. Don A did say something about La Gorda, that sells at the market was interested in the house too.

Another wedding, yay! I hope this one turns out musho than the last one I recapped. What a mess that was.

Vivi- maybe you can tell me. When Luci called Rod he called her something like mushi I think? Is that like pequena from MEPS what Damian called Fer? It was cute and Luci liked it.

Poor Hanna she can't win for losing. I knew Lalu would be upset when she found out that Boris was Hannah's novio.

About the Rosa remark, I think he told Pato that, not Rosa directly and he may have told Marcos and Gabe that too. Rosa doesn't know that Rod is marrying Luci, he swore all to silence, which to me is like inviting the anvil, jus' sayin'. Usually in TN's when you tell more than one person a secret, it usually finds its way everywhere.

Madelaine- I thought I heard him call he mi luz- my light.

Other happenings- Connie wants to move back to her own house in another city because she can't take living with Rosa anymore. Oscar was not happy about this. Also, she's thinking of taking Aldo with her because he is still so immature and needs guidance.

I think near the end when Rosa showed up at the office, surprising everybody, Rod actually told her he was marrying Luci. This was after he told everyone else he was getting married and that he didn't want his mother to know. The secret didn't last long thanks to HIM.

I feel bad for Violeta. Here she lets Luci and Lorenzo stay at her place and gets them work, and now she's being pulled into some things that could get her in trouble. All this stuff with Aldo can't be good for her. I couldn't even watch the end. It was easier to watch people who think they can dance dance dance dance.

Kelly

The private detective already reported back to Julie that everyone in Het Het seems to love her, but she did have trouble with one man... Julie wants the detective to speak to that man. We know who he is, but will Aquiles help these city folk? Probably yes if it will prevent his palomita from marrying someone else.

Ezra: Another excellent recap. Love your take on things, particularly your great humor: "Rosalena's neverending fit continues to not end" and "you'd think if he was planning to propose, he'd wear a less-awful sweater" were several favorites.

Vivi, I was surprised Vicky spilled the beans quickly as well but glad she didn't continue to deceive Aldo further. He deserves better...

ITA Ezra that Paz over-reacted and overacted. Staggering into the bedroom got tiresome the third plus times it happened. At least she gave her blessing (finally) for all the good it will do.

Gala is cool as a cucumber and mean as a snake. A heart and countenance of ice.

Looks like another wedding goes awry by the previews. 2 botched weddings in a week? Is that a record??

Thanks again Ezra.

Diana

Vivi- thanks for the P.I. info. I wasn't sure if they had already hired the guy or if they were just starting to hire one. When Don A went to Magda's I thought it was because Copio told him about the guy Luci was with and that ole Don A was jealous.

Ezra, very good recap, thanks for your labors.
ITA Luci's ama over reacted; why did she, though? Is it because Rosa gave her Luci and perhaps, not knowing Luci's parents she's afraid Rod and Luci are siblings? If someone knows can you tell me?

Emarie- It's a couple of reasons, but not because she thinks Rod and Luci might be siblings. Rosa is the only one who has those thoughts.
1) She is afraid of what Rosa will do to Luci once she knows who she is. She hated her so much when she was a baby. What would she now feel for Luci as an adult, plus having Luci marry one of her sons. When she heard that Rosa was already mistreating Luci, that made her worry and wonder if Rosa had somehow found out who Luci is.
2) She's worried Luci will reject her and hate her when she finds out that Paz and Galindo are not her bio parents and that they his the truth from her her whole life.

hid this truth from her...

Ezra--I totally agree with everyone else. You have crafted your own, cranky, kvetchy, barebones style that is perfectly suited. Sometimes, we need some relief from the detail and adornments some of us, er, me... engage in. PLEASE don't bail on us.
Anita

Ezra thanks for your recap. Hopefully this show will be down to one hour soon.

Though 2 botched weddings so close to one another is great, I think this TN will go the route of Rod & Luci get married and then the stupidity begins. As Ezra and Vivi noted, we are being set up to think something/one will get Rod to believe Luci is not pure. And he'll make her life horrible. Then Pato can come a save her but if this happens it QE all over again.

Agree with the recap about Rod's sweater. By the way, what was the evening temperature in that candlelit scene? Rod's in a sweater and Luci has on a while dress but her shoulders are bare. Either Rod is too delicate for the evening air or Lucy doesn't feel the chill.

Lula and Boris especially Lula are so annoying. What is the point of them? I wish they would just go away. I want to see something develop between Hannah and Lorenzo. They would make a cute couple.

Ezra are you kidding! Thank you for this labor of love. Reading it is the best part. It's amazing to me the level TN parents would sink to control their grown kids. Rosa and Gala is so similar, both are completely crazy.Paz has every reason to worry, Rod shows a lot of weakness where Gala is concern. All she has to do is show some skin and he sinks like the titanic. Mama Paz has a right to worry. Great job Ezra.

Olive

I was thinking that that candlelit scene took place in a bull ring. Many small towns in Mexico have them and it looked about right.

I'm counting the days until Claudio finds out about lady MacBeth and how she gave away his child. I'm guessing that when he has the graves moved he will find out there is only one body. I can't help but wonder why he would have trusted the woman to take care of his sick wife when Max was the guy who sent him to prison. In the prior version of this the Aurora character was Rosa's cousin so it made sense, here it doesn't. Oh and I wish the character had another name. Every time i here them going on about Aurora I flash back to LFMB and the over the top character.

I can't help wondering why Aldo is trying to hack into Infirno's computer system.

Couldn't help thinking that Julie overplayed her hand when she brought Oscar and Conny to Infirno.

Like everyone says Gala's great reveal shouldn't upset Rod since he was there but he really isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer so like most idiot galans he is sure to believe the worst. Thank heaven Luci has Claudio to stand up for her and Patp who won't believe the lies.
