Abismo de pasion #85 7/10/12: In Which We Almost End With A Bang
Labels: abismo
Also, the stoopid auto spell corrector wants to do things like turn Cap'n Sylvia's name into "capon". I am so embarrassed, dear Sylvia. Please do forgive me. It is a good thing we are friends!
Most of you know that I am scrupulous about not looking ahead. I am one of those people on the boards that do not enjoy spoilers. I often won't even recap the avances as we get into Ultimas Semanas because I feel like they get spoiler happy.
So this is not a spoiler. But it is obvious that the situation with the damn gun is very dangerous. Why isn't it locked up already as a condition of Augusto's probation? Arghh. Carmina + Augusto + Gun + Shame = Disaster. Arghh.
Hasta luego,
EJ
If she doesn't off herself, Carmeany has Ingrid and Gabino (on Ingrid's behalf) gunning for her for Kenia's death. I did feel a bit bad for Ingrid, but it's what she deserved.
Isn't Cielo Abierto Augie's lands, not Stefi's? That the point right, that Augie is selling his lands in order to save ELisa's/Stefi's lands? I'm just glad he's acting like a human being towards Elisa. Now, if only they could find someone with some business sense to advise them on how to actually save their lands, sell their harvest, and create this new habanero export business. I want to see something finally happening with that. Not just peppers growing.
I agree that Boyer is the most believable when she is bitchy.
I loved this line:
"There are so many things wrong with this scene I cannot begin to enumerate them. I haven’t enough fingers, toes or hairs on my red head."
I also don't watch ahead. Real time for me; however, you are so right that this cannot end well. Maybe the writers are toying with us again...but I doubt it.
Ingrid learned the hunk of rotting flesh found in the cenote was Kenia.
Enrique learned he has been dismissed.
Guido learned how to perfect the stink eye.
*AVANCES*
Carmina learned Augusto wants her to pull that trigger.
Hi Ramon! Please comment again. We need more guys at the party.
Amiga, gracias for this: "I nominate Ms. Camil for an acting award here. She is brilliant as the flawed, even bad Mother who is facing a hideous fate. It is a brilliant performance." I agree. I know that Ms. Camil drives some people crazy when she goes all pathetic, (actually she drives me crazy too), but I do think she is a good actress and she really brings it home here. Good casting!
I also agree that Boyer is most believable when she is bitchy. To be fair, I'll bet people say that about me as well, but I am not on the screen so who gives a fig?
I love Flor's figure. I love that she's doesn't have obnoxious melon boobs blasting out all over the place. She looks classy.
EJ, thank you for ripping on Assgusto and Elisa's new found, ahem, relationship. Frankly it sickens me. My only relief is that I doubt AssG will be around for another 15 years to prove his "love". He needs to be recycled pronto.
EJ, I can always count on you to make me reach for the dictionary. Hymenoptera, I kinda guessed, but I had to check. Kudos to you. Is there a species that steals other offspring?
ING wants to kill Carmina? I say give it a shot. Oops, speaking of which the shotgun scene that I didn't get to see...Carmina with a gun is very scary.
EJ, I was out tonight and couldn't wait to get home to read your recap. Must be some kind of addiction, so thank you for satisfying.
Oh, Ej, this was a perfect line! Like I said the other day, the sheer fact these two are being all "I wuvvvv you" ( the walking around greenhouse scenes were a tad much last night), spells trouble. TN law, page 32, paragraph 3 states that any parental unit and child who reconcile prior to the Ultimate Episodes shall have a neagtive plot line of sadness bestowed upon them.
I guess I wasn't as admiring of II last night, more pithed that NOW she decides to realize she had a daughter, not an instrument of manipulation to riches. So in one respect, yeah she is paying for her treachery and abuse of the girl, but will she really learn? Kenia deserved so much better. The patio gang shall be lifting a special toast to our lovely lass.
Gab drives me crazy--one minute being snarky and creepy with II, then comforting when she comes home with the news. Must stop multi-layering this character!
Carmina + Asshat + rifle that neither apparently knows how to use right = trouble. Personally, and remembering this was a TN character, I was sort of like, DO IT! when she threaten to kill herself. But too early for the Creamsicle to bite the dust. Asshat on the other hand.....
Giudo actually looked rather fetching - I liked the combed back hair and stick-eye reactions at Alfi. She made herself one lethal enemy. Paolo and Flo on the other hand...add me to those who are disappointed in the l'il petite one. Manipulating Dam Stoopid is one thing, stealing someone else's child is another. Let's hope that plot backfires big time.
I bought a "I heart QuiQui" shirt last night. And I have my tee for Gael all ready to hug tonight. A Gael/Padre scene that I'm sure is going to make me need a kleenex.
It's way too soon for Carmina to die; my guess is that she's faking and she will kill Augusto and do a lot more damage before this series ends.
Just as I found the Witchy Shoes for Rosaelena, here are the Black Widow Shoes for the Botox Queen.
I agree with you that the scene of Ingrid and Dr. Tovar at the morgue was superbly acted. And gut-wrenching. Camil really did a terrific job.
And the lovely wasp-waisted Flo.... Even with the noble goal of getting her dad out of prison, the plot to steal another's baby is unpardonable.
And on that subject, I remember someone wondering when Altair would get a starring role. Well, probably NOT until she gets those silicone implants that we all ahte so much. I too love her natural girlish figure but D cups seem to be a requirement for lead characters.
Paloma's road to maturity has begun, starting with admitting that she pushed the relationship with Gael, chose to run the risk and now has to deal with the consequences.
Not sure what to expect with the Carmina shotgun scene, but was guiltily happy to hear Augusto say "Go ahead and shoot." Of course he didn't specify who! (or is it "whom" Carlos?)
Well observed and beautifully crafted as always, EJ...and I love the Marta Miercoles tag!
I had to pare down my list but my favories included: "Then with a little flick at Flo’s barren belly Alfie stalks off", "Paolo, slick as snot, is sliming on a distraught Sabrina" (which Judy already noted) and "In a harrowing scene, the sheet is lifted back from the body and Ingrid in punished in this one scene for all the wrong she ever did to either of her children".
daisy: "Carmina + Asshat + rifle that neither apparently knows how to use right = trouble" is the perfect description of yet another (likely) bumbled foray into the world of firearms. I only wish Carmina was serious. But, it is too early for her to be out of the picture.
I thought Guido looked very much as though he fit in well in prison. Surprisingly so. There was an air of anger boiling to the surface. Not that I blame him - I would not be in good humor had I been conned and abandoned.
The situation with Tonia, Brau and the loathsome Vincente is so sad. I can't imagine what is going to happen that isn't a terrible ending for at least one of these characters.
Glad Paloma is getting some pride. Dam and Elisa? Yawn.
Diana
Do yourselves a big favor and don't read IMDb message boards of films targeting younger audiences. The nasty comments about how Kirsten Stewart should get implants are disturbing because of what that is saying about what is considered mandatory for female beauty.
I almost got implants when I was in my 20s but it would have ruined me financially. There was also concern about what would happen later with encapsulation, etc. I wonder what's up with that right now.
I really appreciate all our recappers, who must soldier on and watch and listen to this stuff.
That whole scene with Elisa & Augie walking together among the pepper plants, his arm around hers, her balloon boobs sticking out a mile ahead..... it had an ick factor that I can't quite put my finger on. Nor would I want to. Eeewww. We got our PSA on habaneros courtesy of Augie, Elisa & Televisa. FFWD-->
I was surprised there were no scorch marks on Pad Lupe's sleeve, where Carmina touched him.
She is BSC evil incarnated.
Why would Ingrid single out Carmina as the killer of Kenia? Did she know Kenia blabbed too Carmina about finding the plane tix? I can't remember.
We can only hope Carmina will pull the trigger and do herself in, but I doubt that is going to happen any time soon.
UA - I think I heard that France is paying for women to have their implants removed, because that is cheaper than all the related health issues. (or did I dream that news story?)
Don't love the 10:00 slot since I need my beauty sleep ( yeah right) to be all bright eyed for work the next day--may have to watch this one on Hulu Plus, but I do want to give it a go. I so love Silvia..and then there's "the voice".
I think it will probably start before Labor Day unless there are multiple pre-emptions of LQNPA before then. My guess is that it will be on or about the 13th of August.
Now that the dust has cleared on the false brother/sister incest shtick, we are left with these natural and close-enough-to-incestuous-to-make-you-gag pairings: Elisa and Augusto; Alfonsina and Dam; Flor and Paolo. (We'll give Padre and Gael a pass, I think.)
Let's hope the baby-stealing plot (a Rube Goldberg contraption if ever I heard of one) gets shut down early. After all, Sabrina has three caring adults PAYING ATTENTION.
I hate spoilers too. I would have preferred not knowing about Kenia's fate a day or two early. I was clinging to the hope that she would still be found alive.
*though we leave the Shakespearian rag to our Capon, er, I mean Cap'n.:D
i totally agree that Flo deserves no mercy anymore and the Augusto/Elisa 'attempt-at-making-up-for-15-years-of-abuse' is totally overdone... and AssGusto needs to stop the sweet talk and start SHOWING his new attitude by standing up to Alfie, Gabino, et al for Elisa's sake! Lucio is right! he has to work at it, it won't just happen overnight...
also totally agree that the Guido/Alfie scenes are meh!... even though it will be interesting to see what Guido says and does once he gets freed, hopefully because his innocence was proven somehow.
and yes, it should be a doozy of an ep.. with plenty of Gael reacting to the loss of Kenya... i better get my fingers and my heart ready for some emotional scenes ahead.
now on to taking daughter somewhere and coming back to reading the comments...
thanks again EJ! my fav part was the title and your comments about AssGusto/Elisa scenes...
Flor definitely moved into villain territory last night. She seem pretty determined to steal that baby.
I have a hope that überboobies will not become the new norm. Look at actresses like Silvia Navarro, Africa Zavala,Sandra Echeverria Susana Gonzalez and our Flor. They don't seem to be hurting for good roles and they have not succumbed to the scalpel. (Or at least if they did, they didn't go over the top.)
Based on Looneyvision's past behavior, I am very concerned about the frequency of which Abismo is running into LQNPA's time slot. When LQNPA ends, I would not put it past the scheduling hacks to give us a week or two of two hour Abismo eps and then move it to 10 and putting AB at 9.
"but I imagine Gabina will try to stop her from revealing the tickets."
Hadn't thought about that. So if Asshat doesn't bite the dust after tonight's "Let's Play with Guns" episode, wonder if he takes the fall for Kenia? Or will there be enough evidence on the body to even show it had been murder, not just an accidental drowning?
Sorry I missed out on the discussion over the weekend and yesterday. Thanks to Cynderella and Sara for great recaps and to all for the stimulating comments.
Judy, I hope that you are OK. When I opened the computer I was greeted with news of train car explosions in Columbus. You're our grammar czarina, but I'll go with whom this time.
Crazy woman with gun... never a good combination. I suspect our Augusto Support Group is about to be rendered obsolete.
Altair Jarabo needs no improvement or enhancement. Fortunately, I think she is fully aware of that.
I really don't wish to see her as an insipid weepy goody-two-shoes. She does naughty so nicely.
My favorite scene was Gabino spewing Tequila. Saw it coming but I'm immature enough for such as that to always crack me up.
Carlos
And yes, I agree...it's definitely "whom"!
In the avances, I thought when Carmina held the gun up to here face that Augusto said 'Espera'.
How are they going to hide Sabrina's pregnancy? Hide her away in another town until the baby is born?
Guido had the look of vengeance in his eyes when he was talking to Alfie. I hope he pairs up with Enrique and figures it out.
cathyx, ITA that Alfonsina might have made herself a bad enemy in Guido. He looked very menacing during their conversation.
The tickets have no blackmail market value right now, because Carmina has no money. And basically no husband anymore. Maybe Gabino doesn't know that.
Hhhmmm..... The word verification has a photo of a street sign that says "ERMITA" .
Vivi: Hola, amiga. Thank you so much for the correction. Yes, of course you are correct. The lands of Cielo Abierto seem to have been Augustos. I couldn't agree more about maximizing their business asset. One decent MBA could do them a world of good. I bet daisynjay could straighten out their finances for then tout suite.
Sara: Gracias, gracias. I owe you a character study and haven't forgotten. I will get to it. Thanks for covering for some of my many mistakes by blaming them on Blogger. What a colleague!
Anon 207: Where would we be without your lists? Your mind does a very rapid job of synthesizing data, a rare quality. I always appreciate your contributions.
Ramon Colonge: Welcome, Señor! We encourage you to comment often. We love out commenters here. I am so glad you appreciate all the recappers on this thread, and on Caray. On behalf of Sara, Novela Maven, Marta, Sylvia, Cynderella La Novia and myself, we thank you for reading our work.
Sylvia: Right back at ye. Wasn't Camil good last night? Her part is written as irritating, but give her something to sink her teeth into and she tore it apart. Our ensemble cast of actors here may be as good as any I have ever seen in TN land, with the younger acotrs being the weakest, not surprisingly. I take that back. Young Chente is such a creep he is proably a good actor. Wonderful acting and great local scenes in the Yucatan would probably keep me coming back to Pasion Pit even if I wasn't recapping. The acting is overall fabulous. The writing is...well, perhaps I will editorialize more on the writing when the show is complete. The story is anachronistic even without today's technology and is much too small to sustain 120 one hour episodes. But, enough. I digress. I am glad you were satisfied by tonight's error- laden offering.
Abrazos, dear amiga. You are no capon.
EJ
I LOVE you quoting from TN law. I laughed and laughed. Yep, even those of us who do not like spoilers can see the anvils hanging low and ready to drop on the ill-fated Father Daughter pair.
Urban Anthropologist:
Good Heavens, those Black Widow shoes are sheer perfection for the Botox Queen. How ever did you find them? I LOVE them. I want a pair. OH, they are beyond fabulous. I wish I knew how to photoshop a picture of Blanca in one of her wonderful outfits with THOSE shoes. Thank you, Urban Anthropologist.
I am obsessed with wardrobe details and you have just made my day with this offering. Now I am going to imagine Alfie's final end as being crushed under one of the new greenhouses with only those SHOES showing! Wow.
EJ, grinning from ear to ear
Good grief! Poor Marta has to recap that claptrap. One doesn't urge a suicidal person to pull the trigger. Ay Caray! I do not know what to do with myself.
Gracias amiga, for your kind words. You are so kind to say such nice things about the recap even when the grossest of editing errors are allowed to stand due to brain and time restraints. Sending you abrazos across the miles,
EJ
Vivi, I would love to see something happen with the Castañón habanero export business as well. After all, it seems like they have made great progress producing such a beautiful crop after having a plague to deal with. I’ve been thinking about Abismo, (like you Sara!) what is a fair comeuppance for Alfonsina? Being totally bankrupt and asking Elisa for a job would be a start, after all, Elisa sees herself as giving the Arangos a run for their money, and putting the Black Widow on her financial knees would be truly heart warming! Truthfully, bankruptcy would be only a tiny, tiny start on what that woman deserves. (Alfie is Damian’s *madre* and she will be a smiling abuela in the end, my sad prediction!)
Daisy, like you, I was a little, shall we surprised by Ingrid’s extreme sorrow, after all, it wasn’t too long ago that she left Kenia on the road to die. I’m curious to see how this plays out, will she have terribly sorrowful flashbacks realizing how she neglected her daughter or will it be business as usual? Dr. Tovar was really giving Ingrid his complete grief treatment, I fully expected him to jerk his shirt off so he would have something to dab her eyes with!
Diana, I’m glad that Paloma was able to muster some pride too, even if it was after she sniffled through helping one Dr. T’s patients! I think she is on the road to recovery, she is so much more attractive when she is not pawning over Gael.
So happy to see you and thanks for your kind words. Dam and Elisa are SO boring aren't they?
And yes, Diana—Aren't we proud of Paloma? When she shows some self respect she might be surprised at just who comes calling. I think Gael might be into her after all. We know he finds her attractive, who wouldn't? She is gorgeous!
Elisa is more like a little boy's dream. First, she doesn't need rescuing as much anymore. Second she is just not that great a person. She is so VERY self-absorbed.
Doris, you bring up a GREAT question. Why would Ingrid jump to the conclusion that Carmina killed Kenia. I think we have all the plot points, but I was stumped by this one too.
Let's figure this out today, all!
EJ
I thought I heard the word "dispara" as the last word said by Augusto to Carmina. In other words, go ahead an shoot. He knows Carmina very well, so, he knows she will not shoot herself.
As you point out so correctly, my outrage is so much wasted breath. No one, absolutely no one is listening at Televisa.
What I continue to protest, of course, is the shadiness at which the writers play the ick factor. They are not playing the age old themes of incest and child predation and child stealing and mother murder and Father murder (Vicente) with tongue in cheek. Nor are they playing them with over the top mustache-twirling melodrama.
Rather they are presenting these themes, all in the same plot, I might add, under a thin veneer of normalcy, as if they were everyday foibles.
Characters that we like, like Don Lucio, befriend and are loyal to the twisted Don Augusto and josh at him for his proclivity for "younger" women. "O you have have always liked the young ones," Lucio teases a 55 year old Augusto for falling for a 17 year old underage Kenia. Excuse me? How is this OK?
And we watch Alfie in her fine silk gown setting up her beautiful but bovine in intelligence daughter-in-law (to be) to be the surrogate in her son's bed. Major ick ,yuk, gross and many more sophisticated words that describe disgust, distaste and moral repugnance. What? Are we so sophisticated an audience that we cannot feel repelled by the goings on on in the tiny town? I do not think so. The writers have given us a morally murky world in the Pasion Pit, where only Padre Lupe, Ramona the curandera, and Delores (Sadness) maintain some high ground.
But the ground beneath their feet in quicksand, perhaps. Surely the sadistic writers toy with us yet again. Lupe has recently been to the Bishop where he was shown to ask the wrong question and to receive unsatisfactory answers. He is in his own dance macabre with Carmina and he is perilously close to enjoying it.
Ramona is lost in some non-functional broken nether world. She cannot reconcile the facts, the things her senses have perceived, with the weird knowings she gets from other worlds. On several occasions she has let Elisa, Damial and Augusto down, by not telling the truth. She is not a functional being and therefore is unable to be a real truth sayer. Although she is the Padre's great hope for healing thie long festering town cancer, she can't cure anybody right now.
And Delores is now tainted. She is married to the murderer Horacio, whom we, the audience, know is still up to no good.
All in Abismo de Pasion are mired in the Pasion Pit. Sadly, sometimes after I watch, I feel like I need a shower. I know you, my dear Novela Maven, friend and Tribe member, know just what I mean.
Elna June
So good so see you again! Thank you for you kindest of comments. Altair does play the bad girl splendidly, doesn't she?
Abrazos to you and the lovely Linda. I hope your Texas weather is not too terribly hot.
EJ
Thanks for the fascinating analysis in your "outrage" post. Very astute observation and expression of your distaste for the sleaze swirling around this "hot" little town.
La Paloma
So good to see you and thank you for your kind words. Exempt from proofing, I love that idea. Sadly, right now, this is the best I can do, so you all are very kind to tolerate my errors.
Pasofino: Thank you.
La Paloma: Gracias.
EJ
Exactly, EJ. There is a breath-taking cynicism at work here. This novela is NOT a tragedy. It is, rather, a disturbing and distorted view of human nature.
When I'm recapping it, the only way I can play it is tongue-in-cheek. Otherwise, I couldn't bear to watch this show, let alone write about.
And this is why I love your recaps -- not only do we get the brilliant "starter" above the fold, we get your insightful mini-essays below the fold. The doctor is most definitely IN. And I, for one, am grateful, amiga.
Paolo didn't care about Kenia & she wasn't pregnant with his baby anymore...Paolo wasn't interested
Augusto had always been somewhat kind & smitten with Kenia, plus he had no real motive to kill her.
Alfonsina didn't have any motive to kill Kenia either...Kenia wasn't causing problems with Alfonsina anymore.
We could say "Well, maybe a stranger could have killed Kenia" but Ingrid was told by the landlady that "a friend" called her and told her Kenia left town, plus all of Kenia's belongings were gone from her house. A strange cenote rapist wouldn't have done all of that.
The only other person who could have killed Kenia was Gabino, and Gabino showed more concern for Kenia's wellbeing than Ingrid (when Ingrid busted Kenia upside the head).
I understand what you are saying and I couldn't agree more. I noticed this on the first episode of Triunfo del Amor, Osvaldo came home to be greeted by a very young sex pot in her pjs. She squealed in delight at the sight of him and jumped into his arms to say hello. We were all led to believe that it was his sweet young thing he was having an affair with. It turned out to be his daughter. At the time I thought that that was very sleazy of the writers.
Why do the writers do this?
1. They want to appeal to the type of viewer who would get turned on by such ambiguous relationships. OR
2.The writers themselves get turned on by such ambiguous relationships. OR
3.They want to normalize such foibles, as you put it. OR
4.They want to see how far they can push the envelop with the viewers before they get complaints. I'm sure they think they get higher ratings this way.
As far as revealing clothing also treated as normal, every time I see Elisa, for example with boobs hanging out of her shirt and her shorts shorter than her vest, I wonder how someone talking to her isn't completely distracted by that, or that she doesn't get men leering at and following her wherever she goes. They are normalizing the sleazy clothing too.
I know that this is just a TV show, but young people watch it and as they become numb to the sleazy behavior and clothing, they will think that all of this is normal and acceptable as they become adults.
I love Anon207's lists of what do we know now. You give us pause to recollect how the news bits and action are hitting various characters.
Sylvia, I remember Mom saying that serving up a capon is a special treat for your guests because of its superior and delicious taste!
No rush on Fina's analysis. I am very patient. Besides, who knows what she'll do next! Today's analysis could be tomorrow's obsolete analysis. :-)
the novela has not even started and i am already preparing some soothing tea, a confy couch with plenty of soft pillows for MI GAEL... poor thing... and i am sure he will want the fewest people possible to know what is going on or about his relationship with Kenya. hopefully he will let Loopy, Elisa and/or Paloma to be with him.
