Refugio Para el Amor #81 Mon 7/30/12 A Night of Treachery, Truth and Tears

We start back with the BIG REVEAL. Paz has just told Claudio that his daughter is alive and that she’s Luciana! Claudio can’t believe it. He saw the remains of his child with his own eyes; and Rosalena T. is his witness. Paz is practically foaming at the mouth hearing that witch’s name.
P: Rosalena Torreslanda?!!!!! What an even bigger SIN!!! (pecado)
CL: What are you saying? Tell me what’s wrong with you?!!
P: When you were in jail, when your wife gave birth (dar a la luz), la Señora T. helped her in everything.
CL: Yes, she was the only one who remained close to my wife after they jailed me unjustly. She cared for her!
P: Yep, and she DECIEVED you! You have been deceived all these years! Nothing that you have been made to believe is true. I say and I say it again, you've been had. You've been took. You've been HOODWINKED, BAMBOOZLED, led astray, run amok! (Thank you Spike Lee and Denzel Washington.)
Claudio shakes his head in disbelief and insists it’s not true. Well, the truth is all that Paz is serving tonight, and she’s not sugar coating it. She’s in lioness mode and pounds the truth into Claudio’s brain. She talks about the healthy beautiful baby that Rosa gifted her just after his wife died. Claudio is outraged that Paz would accuse Rosa of such a monstrosity. Paz drives the truth home some more, and finally Claudio accepts it. He has to brace himself against furniture to keep from falling when the truth finally hits him full force.

We leave that scene to take a breath, but the next scene is not a happy one. NimRod, being what he is, an idiot, has fallen right into Gala’s treacherous trap and into bed with her. Since the deed is done, the blood has gone back up to his brain, which needs all the help it can get. He looks both guilty, and like he’s just been violated. He turns his head away from Gala, which isn’t much use since her naked body is draped across his. “Thank you my love. That was even better than old times. Te amo.” Gala looks like the snake that ate the canary. Rod says nothing and tries to hide his shame by rolling into the fetal position. He calls himself an idiot (so true), and asks himself what he’s done silently. (Closing your eyes won’t make her disappear, Rod.) Gala gloats to herself that he’s hers.

Claudio is having a bit of a malfunction and needs Paz to spell out how this all happened. She explains about Rosa bringing the baby to her and Galdino’s house the day Aurora died, and made them promise to take the baby far away and never come back to D.F.
CL: Why?! Why?! Why do so much harm to Aurora and me? When the only thing we gave was our affection and our friendship. What did we do to make them treat us in this manner? What did we do?!!
Paz says she doesn’t know about all that. All she knows is how much she and Galdino loved and cared for Luci and that she thanks God every day for putting her and Luci on the same path. Claudio breaks down in tears.
CL: If what you tell me is true, then God did put you both and Luci on the same path. If the two of you hadn’t accepted her, who knows what would have happened to her. My daughter.
P: Yes. Exactly. Your daughter.
CL: Luciana is my daughter. My daughter.
Claudio collapses into tears of acceptance finally. Paz puts a protective arm of strength around his shoulders.

At Casa Torreslanda, Pato sadly remembers saying goodbye to Luci at the airport. He can’t believe that she’s left forever. He doesn’t want to lose her. In the kitchen, Mati calls her sis Estelita to find out how Luci and her family were sent off. Estelita mentions that Linares went with them, which shocks Mati. Her bun nearly comes loose when Estilta also tells her that Paz is determined to tell Linares the truth about Luci.

In the master bedroom, Rosa is determined not to let Max’s (true) accusations about manipulating Rod ruin her happiness. She wonders when he’ll finally give her the respect she deserves as mistress of the house and family. He says she’s always had it, but her actions have put the stability of their family at risk. We all know how Max doesn’t like anyone to rock his boat. She tells him to shut up and go to sleep. (But in that creepy Stepford Wife way.) Then she heads to the kitchen for water. Max takes a deep breath and does some “serenity now” chants. In the kitchen, Rosa finds Mati looking down and out with a cup of tea. Since Mati feels the need to tell her niña EVERYTHING, she tells her about Linares going to Het Het. Rosa doesn’t believe that Paz will open her mouth, and if she does, she’s sure Claudio won’t believe Paz since she made sure he saw those baby remains. The news of her niña’s sacrilege sends Mati into a fit of denial. She can’t believe Rosa would be capable of such a thing. Rosa la Loca tells her she’s capable of that and much more! Anything in order to assure that Claudio keeps thinking his child is dead and doesn’t find out it’s Luci! When Mati asks her if she isn’t afraid of God, Rosa secures her place in Hell by scoffing, and says that God abandoned her. After she did her darndest to hide her crimes and sins, God had the NERVE to send Luci right back to her doorstep and into her home. Mati tells her it won’t be long before Claudio comes to take names and kick some ass. Rosa says, bring it on, she’s prepared for anything! “What you did isn’t forgivable, even by God.” Mati leaves the kitchen in tears. Rosa gets her crazy eyes back. (I knew that creepy, dead-eyed Stepford Wife act couldn’t last long.)

Claudio continues to ask questions. Did Rosa know that Luci is his daughter? Yep. Rosa hated her from the first moment she saw her since she resembled Aurora, and hated her even more after finding out the truth.  Aww hell no! That’s more than enough for Claudio. “I am going to get revenge on the Torreslandas! For every one of their slights to my daughter. For every tear I shed thinking she was dead. For each day I was imprisoned!” Paz is all, well, peace and light and wants Claudio to drop the revenge thoughts. Karma/life will take care of giving them all what they deserve. Claudio thinks Paz deserves the best. Paz says he’s mistaken, because she also deserves blame for keeping this secret all these years. Claudio points out that she and Galdino kept quiet because of the promise they made, but Paz admits there was the fear of losing Luci too. But now she’s on a roll dishing out the truth, and Luci’s next in line to get a big helping. Claudio tells her not to worry. He would never take Luci’s love from her. “You have been, and will always be, her mother.” Paz says that Luci will love him even more when she finds out the truth.

I knew it! BSC Rosa is back in full force. She’s tearfully begging her former BFFs God and Jesus for help (remember she broke up with them when Padre wouldn’t give her absolution for grave robbing and that’s when she started her Stepford Wife act). Max comes into the house chapel, sees his wife on her knees, and asks what the hell is going on. She starts babbling Claudio’s name and manages to say that he’s gone to Het Het with Luci and will soon find out the truth. “You told me that you had already spoken to Claudio, and you didn’t do it!” Rosa admits that she lied to him, and now Paz is going to spill the black, red, pinto and refried beans. I guess Max never realized that Luci’s parents were their gardeners, because he’s shocked that Rosa gave the child of Aurora and Claudio to such low born people. Rosa hysterically admits how she promised Aurora she would care for her child, but she gave her away instead so that she would never have to see the child again. Max can’t believe that Rosa was stupid enough to give the child away to people who could easily be connected back to them and know whose child she was giving them. Rosa’s now in total meltdown and beats on Max screaming that she got rid of the fruit of HIS sin, HIS infidelity!  (Oh man! There could be a telenovela just about these two and their dysfunctional marriage.)

Back to a sane set of parents.  Paz is worrying again, about how Luci is going to take the news. Claudio smiles, takes her face in his hands and once again assures her that he will never take Luci from her. Paz wants to be the first to speak to her. Claudio will follow her lead. He just wants to wait up there in the living room till his daughter wakes up. Paz goes back to the bedrooms, and Claudio thinks to himself how unbelievable it is that Rosa is such a despicable being. Uh oh! Looks like he’s got revenge on the brain again.

In the land of locos, Max is telling Rosa that she’s exactly that, CRAZY!! She’s going to have to assume the consequences of her acts. He’s got nothing to worry about because he knows Luci is NOT his child. Claudio can do a DNA test whenever he wants, which will show that Luci is his and Aurora’s daughter. “I wouldn’t want to be in your shoes.” Rosa says, ditto, when Claudio finds all the proof that shows Max is the one behind the fraud that put him in jail for 20 year. Oh, snap!  “Although you don’t believe it Rosa, all of this hurts me. It hurts me because I still love you. And your sins and mine are going to end up destroying us.” He leaves the chapel and Rosa collapses on her knees again, sobbing, and trying to avoid the omniscient gaze of Jesus. There’s nowhere to hide Rosa!

Paz enters her and Luci’s bedroom and finds Magda watching over a sleeping Luci. She looks like a mix between Snow White and Sleeping Beauty in her white nightgown. Paz gives Magda the update and shares her worries in whispers.  It sounds strange to her saying that Luci’s papa wants to see her. She lights a candle in front of Galdino’s picture. Luci wakes just as the two moms start to leave the room. Paz stays behind. Luci is shocked that Paz still hasn’t come to bed. Paz admits she’s been up all night talking to Claudio, who’s waiting up till dawn to see Luci. Luci is totally confused why this would be. In the main room, Magda makes tea and chats with Claudio about it all. Claudio admits he’s conflicted. On one hand he’s filled with happiness about finding his daughter; on the other, he’s filled with anger and the need for vengeance. He will confront Rosa, but for now, he just wants to see his daughter and hug her. He later shares his fears with Magda—that Luci will blame him for having put his trust in Rosa. He’s mad at himself for not realizing the kind of person Rosa really is. Madga says the most important thing is that he knows now. Claudio says his heart, soul and life are now filled with light.

Paz really is on a truth kick tonight. She starts to tell Luci everything. She reminds her about her father’s dying words to find Rosa Torres. “Rosa Torres is Rosalena Torreslanda.”  That’s the first of a whole bunch of shocking revelations for Luci. “Galdino and I aren’t your parents; your real parents are Aurora and Claudio Linares.” Luci has a similar moment of malfunction as Claudio. She cannot compute what Paz is telling her. She starts shaking and looking wild eyed as Paz tries to convince her of the truth. Luci shakes herself free of Paz, repeating no. “You tell me just like that?!!” (así de fácil) Paz says it isn’t easy for her to tell her, and admits the fears that held her back all this time. “Why NOW?!!!!” Paz says it wouldn’t be fair for her or Claudio if she kept quiet. Luci realizes that Sabina the Geriatric Witch was right-- that her time in D.F. and all her suffering there was her destiny. “Yes Luciana. You’re destiny found you. And now you can’t escape from it.”  (Wow! Paz really isn’t sugar coating this. If you can’t handle the truth, too bad!) Luci realizes this is the reason Paz got into such a tizzy when she first met Rod. Paz drops another truth bomb, that Rosa was the one who gave her away. Paz doesn’t know the reason. It’s all making sense to Luci now—all of Rosa’s mistreatment.

Luci has a mini breakdown. “This is a dream and I want to wake up now!!!” She almost passes out against the wall and Paz rushes to her. Paz tells Luci her fears of rejection. Luci can’t believe she would think that. “YOU are my mom! And that man (pointing to Galdino’s pic) is my father. My ONLY father! Because you two raised me when that woman wanted to get rid of me. Because you gave me what any child wants- love.” Luci says she’ll never be able to repay them and couldn’t have had better parents-- who raised her as their own, gave her a brother, Lorenzo, who taught her to value the most important things. “I will never, listen to me, I will NEVER leave you!” Luci grabs Galdino’s picture, and shakes her head no when Paz says her father (Claudio) needs her. “He is my father!” (Pointing to Galdino’s pic.) She clutches the framed picture to herself and cries for her papa, while Paz holds her.

When we come back from a much needed commercial break, Luci is a bit more calm, but still crying and clutching the pic of Galdino. Now she knows why she and Claudio had such an instant bond—the call of the blood. She doesn’t know what to say to him. Paz wipes her tears and encourages her to go give her Papa Claudio a hug. Luci’s lip quivers like a five year old’s as Paz guides her out of the room.  In the living room, Claudio’s back in revenge mode. He wants to unmask Rosa in front of her whole family and show them what a hypocrite she is. Magda tries to talk him off the revenge ledge again. Luci’s tearful appearance snaps him out of it. He approaches her cautiously; Luci looks like she’s barely hanging on. Paz takes away her crutch/pic of Galdino and eventually Luci falls into Claudio’s waiting arms. They both let the tears flow, but Luci weeps inconsolably on his shoulder. Paz and Magda leave them alone to talk.
CL: Luciana, daughter. With you, God has given me the greatest gift-- after so many years of being deceived, thinking that my daughter had died. All I can do is give thanks for this miracle.
Luciana doesn’t know what to say and calls him Licenciado formally.
L: You’ve also been like a great gift that life has given me. A protector, a guardian angel who has given me your affection unconditionally. And I’ve learned to love you for your nobility and your chivalry (caballerosidad). But, understand me please. For me, my mom and dad are Paz and Galdino.

Claudio understands. He’ll never pressure her. Little by little they’ll both get used to it. It’s not easy for either of them. Luci says it’s hard for her to call him papa, but she doesn’t want him to doubt the great love she has for him. Since she met him she’s cared greatly for him, and now that she knows who he is, even more so. Claudio begs her to at least not denying him the right to call her daughter. Luci doesn’t think it would be right/just for her to deny him that. Claudio takes out his wallet photo of Aurora, asks her to not let him and Luci be separated again, and formally introduces her to Luci, although he’s sure from heaven she already knew Luci was their daughter. He tells Luci that her mama is now happy in heaven. Inside the bedroom, Paz is also speaking to the picture if her deceased beloved spouse. She tells him Luci now knows everything, and she’s now at peace. She misses him so much at these moments, but she knows from where he is, he sent the right words to her mouth. Paz slowly lays herself down on the bed, looking exhausted from her night of truth telling.

NimRod is still playing dead, so Gala finally gets the message, gets dressed and leaves. NimRod immediately hops out of bed and rushes to the bathroom to wash off the shame.

Claudio and Luci speak about the unscrupulous Rosa. Now that he knows the truth about Rosa, Luci finally tells him that Rosa treated her like crap from the moment she saw her, and engineered her split from Rod. Claudio asks Luci if she still loves Rod. With her whole heart, she replies. She will never love another like she loves Rod. Claudio tells her she’s very young (there are more hunky, and also smart, fish in the sea). He tells her she’ll find a man who deserves her love. Luci, like any good tn heroine, firmly believes Rod is her ONE TRUE LOVE. How can she give another man her heart when it already belongs to Rod?

Avances: Hot Head Rod tears up his own apartment because he’s pissed at himself for sleeping with Gala. Pato is pissed at him for the same reason, but Rod swears this doesn’t mean he has any obligation to Gala. Paz asks Luci if she’s going to return to D.F. with her papa Claudio.

Vivi, thank you s much amiga for subbing for me last Thursday, and thanks to all of you for your wonderful comments about my recovering hubby. He is doing much better now. He will be out for another week, but his sight is coming back.

I have been catching up with all the recaps, thanks Vivi, JudyB, Paquina, and Marta for such wonderful recaps. I have missed you all.

Oh, I am so glad the truth of Luci's real parents is finally out. I just knew Claudio would never be mad at Paz for taking Luci and caring for her. I am glad his anger is directed the right way at Rosa, yay! Between Magda, Paz and Claudio they will always protect and watch over Luci. There needs to be some revenge though. The TL's have gotten away with far too much already, Rosa and Max that is.

Note to Rosa: God and Jesus will never forgive you for your multitude of mortal sins. Unless and until you fess up to the truth, it will never happen. Note to Max: Stop abusing women. You will end up in hell along with your Rosa. Also with the fraud.

Note to DEAD TO ME ROD: No matter how many showers/baths you take, you will never wash away what you did with Gagme. Gagme set a trap, and cause your brain ain't working, you fell right in. Good luck with that. The next thing you know she will be "pregnant" somehow or other, how you gonna handle that???

Vivi what a great wonderful recap this is, loved the HOODWINKED, BAMBOOZLED, LED ASTRAY, RUN AMOK. Lines.

Vivi,

Thank you for a most wonderful recap. Claudio was magnificent in his slow realization that Luci was indeed his hija. Poor Luci looked in shock even at the end.

Great line about Mati's bun nearly coming loose.

Nimrod should be pithed at himself! He is going to regret that little romp for the rest of his life. We also found out this was not their first time.

I think St. Rosa's tranquil life is now gone for good. Max was really pithed that she lied to him. Just wait until all of Mexico knows. And then we have the trial to look forward to. The coming weeks should be great TN watching.

Rosemary Primera

Great work, Vivi! What an episode and a great revelation.

"Better than old times" indeed! So Gagme likes it rough, I guess.

The only thing that could wash away Rod's sin here is a stretch in a monastery.

Here's hoping Claudio stays on the warpath because Rosa so deserves. She’s tearfully begging her former BFFs God and Jesus for help (remember she broke up with them when Padre wouldn’t give her absolution for grave robbing and that’s when she started her Stepford Wife act). Great one!

Madelaine- I'm so glad to hear your hubby is doing better. It was my pleasure to sub for you last week.

The hoodwinked line is straight from Spike Lee's Malcom X, a iconic moment of the movie, but just so perfect for this situation, I couldn't resist.

Yes, Luci has three very strong parental figure protectors. I love that both Claudio and Luci reacted to Paz with total understanding and gratitude. But Luci was such a daddy's girl and loved her pap so much that she will have a hard time adjusting to Claudio being her papa.

Thanks Rosemary 1st. I also thought that Claudio was magnificent in his shifting emotions and slow realization.

As for Rod and Gala, we knew from the beginning that sex was a regular thing for them. They even did in his apartment after the remodeling. That's one of the reasons why I was so skeeved out that he intended for Luci to live there post-wedding, since he and Gala had surely done it there multiple times before the remodel, and at least once afterwards. Yuck!

Urban- Maybe both Rosa and Rod should go far, far away together to pray and contemplate their sins, and beg God's forgiveness. They just can't go to Het Het.

I have question. We have heard many times about Rosa and Max having nothing when they started out but we have not heard about Claudio and Aurora's beginnings. So the question is where did money come from to start this mega corporation? I am beginning to think that it was Claudio's money that was used to start the business. After all, he is the one well educated and with the sterling reputation in the legal community. We have not heard anyone singing Max's praises. Max is one of those people that I would not trust, he is just too cocky for me to trust him.

I hope before this over, someone brings both Max and St. Rosa to their knees.

RP

RP- I don't think Max and Rosa were ever poor, but they likely had middle class beginnings. Rosa was well enough off to have had Mati as a nanny/servant since her childhood. Max was probably from more modest origins- hence the source of his unending need for more money and power. I wouldn't be surprised if when they started out that Linares had the money to get the business off the ground. We know from what Rosa, Connie, and Max have said that Max, Claudio, Aurora and Rosa were at university together, so they have equal levels of education.

Continuing from my last comment, I wouldn't be surprised if Max's envy of Claudio was rooted in Claudio having more money than him, being more well liked by people/employees/clients, being better at managing the business, and also having a more loving/supportive wife and home life. Just like Rosa envied Aurora and was jealous of her.

Vivi, I knew you would remember the little details. Thanks.

RP

Vivi thanks for your recap. FYI, the quote from "Malcolm X" is almost verbatim from an actual speech by him. So appropriate to describe what Rosa did to poor Claudio.

Paz and Magda were kind w/their don't seek revenge Claudio but I'm not there. And even if he doesn't seek revenge Road needs some jail time and we all know her list of crimes. It would be so fitting for the police to cuff her and take her to jail.

Madelaine - glad to hear your husband is better. I hope you are well too. And yes the TL's have gotten away w/way too much so far. I can't wait to see Claudio to put Rosa in jail.

I don't see what the writers will do to make it so Rod can recover and be a worthy galan. Will he save Luci's life and mature significantly? Even then I'm still on Team Pato. It would serve Nimrod right if Gagme is pregnant for real.

Karen

I'm with you bring on the revenge. The nice ladies in Het Ht simply have never come against the type of self centered evil that is Rosa. It would never cross their minds to give away a child and lie about it. Claudio and Luci have been seriously abused by St. Rosa and we don't want to wait for judgement day for Jesus and God to give her what she deserves. I want her poor and groveling with her kids shunning her sanctimonious behind.

Rosa is slipping ever closer to going over the loca line. She still can't get it out of her head that Max was a cheat (he wasn't but thanks to her now he is). He has warned her time and time again but she just won't listen. Unfortunately for all of them her actions will destroy the life they have.

So dumbass silently thinks he's an idiot - well all of us have known that for weeks. He played right into Gagme's hands and he will pay the price for it. Just one more think he can thank his mother for. I smell a fake pregnancy coming on especially if Luci's real one becomes known.

Paz did a good job of raising Luci. For awhile there I was afraid she was going to totally reject Claudio but those previews hint she might be going back to the DF with him. I'd love to see the two of them arrive at Rosa's Ice Palace during one of her scripted family dinners and unload the whole story on the family.

After a two week ausencia, I'm baaack. Sure have a lot of catching up to do. STUFF HaPPens!
I read tonight's recap and the comments. Good job Vivi--I could *see* it without watching it. Great comments, too.

Madelaine, hope your hub continues to improve--glad to know the sight is coming back.
Anita

Whaaaa? Luci's preggars for sure? Does she know it yet? Mamas-to-be are the last to know in tn world.
Anita

Vivi, wonderful recaps as always. Tonight's the most heart wrenching episode of them all. Excellent emoting from Claudio and luciana and hate to admit it, Rosa.I didnt even realize the hour was gone. Was Luciana half fainting because of the revelation or because she is pregnant? I would love to see Rosa jailed for her double crimes and don't forget the reversal of fortune.

Holy cow, what an episode. Just reading your great recap Vivi has me exhausted again. Superb acting all around on the Luci reveal and Rosa's meltdown. I need to buy kleenex today.

As for Dumbass, says a lot when he curled up in that fetal position. he needs a good dose of maturity for being such a, well....dumbass. So looking forward to Pato laying into him.

Rosa may have dodged the lightening bolts last night, but there will be fireworks when Claudio comes back to town. This is getting soooooo good.

If Gala is as smart as she thinks she is she will probably fake a pregnancy ASAP to force Rod to marry her.

He should know her well enough to remember that having children isn't exactly on her To Do List.

Madelaine, so glad to se you back! I'll join the chorus in that I'm happy your husband is doing much better.

Vivi, oh dear...This was beyond stellar. "Paz is practically foaming at the mouth hearing that witch’s name", "Well, the truth is all that Paz is serving tonight, and she’s not sugar coating it", "
lioness mode","Since the deed is done, the blood has gone back up to his brain, which needs all the help it can get" and "She’s tearfully begging her former BFFs God and Jesus for help" were amazing. Delightfully crafted!

I thought Paz handled Claudio well. She was straightforward and didn't back down an inch. I see I wasn't alone in being relieved Claudio did not harbor any bad feelings towards Paz.

I did think Paz was very hard on Luci. Luci had absolutely no idea this was coming. Not the faintest clue! While honesty may be the best policy, I think she could have relayed things in a gentler manner. I was surprised Luci didn't fall to the floor in a torrent of tears.

Now the truth is out. I hope Luci and Linares go together - while they may not go seeking vengence, they will get the truth. Sometimes, they may be one and the same.

Thanks again Vivi - this was superb.

Diana

Thanks for the awesome recap, Vivi! that was a very emotional and moving episode for Paz, CLaudio and Luciana... talk about the NIGHT of revelations!!

LOVED your comment here...
(Oh man! There could be a telenovela just about these two and their dysfunctional marriage.)
right after Max told Rosa just wait for Claudio to do a DNA test..

now i will revise my theory of the Max/Rosa/Claudio/Aurora envy/relationship... Yes, i agree now that Max envies Claudio more on the kind of wife he has rather than for actually LOVING Aurora. Seems Aurora was for Claudio everything he expected the woman he loved and married, Rosa, to be for him. SO he was envious of having such a loving wife vs such a frivolous/whining/stalking wife.

Thanks so much Vivi - it was such an intense episode. Unusual for so much NAKED TRUTH to be revealed, force fed even, in one TN episode, but how great to get to this point already. I'm so looking forward to the fallout.

Me too about Rod's apartment - always grossed me out that he expected Luci to just move right in there (and also to adjust completely to his big city lifestyle and modern tastes). I knew Gala had redecorated his apartment for the two of them to live after they married. At least I don't think he did it with Luci there (with all the memories hanging around of him and Gala already having been there - yuck). He tried though - romancing Luci in his apartment and Gala shows up and lets herself in with her keys, LOL! Yep, that sent Luci skittering away just in time.

Rod was clueless about that. He should definitely have considered the bad taste of expecting Luci to live in the place he had shared with Gala and especially after Gala redecorated it.

He should have suggested that they look for a new place to live. A nice garden apartment or a suburban house would be more suitable for Luci than an upper-floor high rise.

Fine recap, a fine recap!

Luci has two daddy's.

Hats off to the actors and actresses. That had to be some hard work to stay in that intense character for that long. Thought for sure Claudio would go the "she ain't mine, I don't believe you route." Glad it didn't happen cause then Claudio would have been as stupid and Rod the cod.

Probably shouldn't bother me about Rod the cod and Gagme's roll in the hog trough but it does. From a power couple to smarmy shaggers. Should he not be yelling at Gagme about how she with held the secret that she only wanted his money. And, that she tricked me. And, I how can I trust you now. Oh right. That brain damaged response is only for Luci.

Well, I guess it's good bye het het. The dynamic duo will be off for venganza.

Yep. Rosa's back. If Max didn't love her, she would be toast by now with those threats about what he did to Claudio.

Such a small house but no one hears anything. Paz and Claudio should have awoken the dead. And, where was Brigida for Rosa's metamorphosis.

I had this sick feeling when Rod kissed gala. And the shag after. What the hell? She is the reason that he isnt with Luci. She is going to make his life hell for sure. Im only going to keep watching because the actors are so superb. But how long now must we wait for our lovers to get back together?

Thanks everyone for the great comments. This was a great episode to recap because it moved along so fast and had such great dramatic content.

Anita, welcome back!!! I hope you have time to catch up on the episodes. Good stuff happened while you were away. No, Luci does not yet know she’s preggers, nor does anyone else. She’s had a busy couple of weeks with the mamas in DF and prepping for/taking her exam.

Karen- I agree that Rod is going to have to do something really impressive to deserve Luci. I would like to see him take some real steps towards maturing, like learning to use his words effectively, instead of lashing out and acting before thinking. I agree with you and Urban that his stupid one night with Gala will result in either a real of fake pregnancy. Idiot!

Decie Girl- I thought that Max was channeling Sabina when he told Rosa that their joint sins will destroy them. At least he understands that, even if he has no desire to change and make amends.

Daisynjay- I also can’t wait for the confrontation between Claudio and Rosa. Will she be able to keep her cool, or will he finally get a peek at Rosa La Loca?

Diana- I was also surprised by how direct Paz was with Luci, but I was also happy that she just got straight to the point. It wasn’t going to be any less shocking, I guess. Best to just rip the Band-Aid off quickly.

Marta- Max and Rosa would make interesting character studies, no? Envious, greedy (for love and power), and selfish are some of adjectives that come to mind for both of them. And crazy too.

Audrey and Urban- Yep, Gala just waltzing into the apt. with her own set of keys killed the deal for Luci. I think Rod will for sure have to move before the big reconciliation, whenever that comes.

Anon 9:44- I too was happy that Claudio didn’t react like an idiot, and nor did Luci. If it were Rod, he would have been like those typical characters who get all bent out of shape upon hearing the truth, refuse to believe it, and then blame the truth tellers.

The fact is that Luci had the best of all four of her parents. Good DNA from Claudio and Aurora, and good upbringing from Paz and Galdino. I think she will react like Paz and Magda and not want revenge. She usually takes the high road by not giving the haters a second thought. That’s why she’s so able to pick herself up and move on.

Barzzini- Welcome! I think it might be quite a while before our lovers are reunited, and most of us don’t mind, considering what an idiot Rod is.

I don´t often have the time to read or respond to the recaps, but I want you all to know how much I appreciate them. I am in Costa Rica for a month and have not been able to find Un Refugio on tv (and in reality don´t really have much time for tv.) I went through a week of withdrawl without my nightly TN before remembering the recaps. Thank you! Thank you to all you recappers for your time and witty recaps.

My eyes filled wth tears as I read about last night´s revelations. Vivi, your recap was so clear and I felt the emotion of the show as if I were seeing it with my own eyes. Also, I loved, loved, loved the way you described ¨spilling the bean¨ with many different kinds of beans. Pretty funny! Also the various words for engaño: hoodwinked, bamboozled, etc. Very clever!

Thanks again! - Deb

Thanks for dropping in during your vacation Deb! I love Costa Rica. I'm glad the recaps are helping you keep up while you're away.

Vida2- I think Luci nearly passed out for a number of reasons, even if she wasn't pregnant (as we suspect). She was already emotionally and physically tired when they returned home to Het Het from D.F., then to be woken up in the wee hours and hit with major life-changing news-- it would be enough to make anyone get a little weak in the knees.

Vivi, I don't think there is anything that Rosa could say that is going to excuse her antics to Claudio. If she tries the "I thought Max was the father" he'll throw the DNA thing at her too, just like Max was said to do ( which didn't sit well with her).

The can of worms this all opens, Mati and Connie aiding and abetting Rosa's looneyville version of the truth, the change of "status" for Luci since she is the natural daughter of a lawyer, and lord help us, what this will do to Jana and Pato. So much for family dinner nights.

Question will be, Rosa claims people don't know what lengths she would go to for her kids. (Or her delusions). Even though she has no valid reason anymore to hate Luci based on her birth, she will now hate her for ruining her LaLaLand life. Will she cross that line to revenge/attempted murder/etc. and who will get caught in the crossfire if that happens?

WOW!!! Last night was the reason that I gave up American cinema, The Olympics and everything else. Acting and drama at it's best. Even though I don't understand Spanish, I believe that great singing or great acting transcends language anytime and last night proved it. EXCELLENT---TERRIFIC---MASTERFUL. VIVA!! VIVA!! VIVA!! cast and crew of "Un Refugio Para El Amor."

I agree that Luci won't be after revenge and if Claudio does go for it (Yeah it's about time) she will try and keep Jana and Pato out of the line of fire. They are truly innocent of everything but I say lay it on to Max, Dumbass and most especially Rosa. Then with any luck on to Gagme and Julie.

I can't help wondering what happened to all those chic clothes that Luci bought on her trip with Melissa and Jana? We know the wedding dress is stashed in Rod's credenza and Luci gave the gift box back but what about those clothes. As beautiful as she is in her Het Het garb and I want her to change her style and put Gagme and her cadre of friends in the shade. Since her entire life has changed in the blink of an eye a new style will be like armor for her.

Poor Dumbass wakes up with a skank slobbering all over and finally has a light bulb moment and realizes he is an idiot. Too bad he didn't realize it during the great inquisition in the library. If he wants Luci he has a long road to rehabilitation and now that she has a fiercely protective father it isn't and shouldn't be easy.

I'm looking forward to Luci returning to the DF and moving into Claudio's place. Just think of the foaming at the mouth, rant we'll get from NimRod when he finds that out. I can just picture it asnd then when he finally learns the truth he can go to Rosa Chapel and fall his knees begging for God's forgiveness for being and idiot.

Oh, but she will still hate Luci for her resemblance to Aurora, the woman she is certain Max had an affair with. Nothing will disabuse her of that delusion. As to what she is willing to do...

-- She didn't get her hands dirty the first time, but doesn't she know that Gala was trying to hand Luci over to Don A?
-- Since she likely had something to do with Aurora's death, I can see murder for hire in her future.

Luci's bet protection would be Claudio making a big public announcement of finding his long-lost daughter. Complete with paparrazzi and an interview.

Urban

You are so right about a front page paparazzi extravaganza would be great, tears all around and in one corner a small select group gnashing their teeth muttering about domesticas.

I also think that Max and Rosa may have unkowingly contributed to Aurora's death. The stress of what must have been a horrible trial with accusations of fraud between long time friends on top of a pregnancy must have been terrible. We understand that she died of some kind of heart problem after Luci was born but that could have been brought on by months of hell. Max would never have done anything to hurt the woman he so admired but Rosa on the other hand knows no limits. Umm if Rosa did do something I think that would be the straw that breaks the camels back and Max would finally give up on the sanctimonious shrew.

Wow Vivi..you hit this one out of the park. Must have been exhausting to write because it sure was exhausting to watch, and I felt like I was going through it all over again, reading your superb recap.

A Night of Treachery, Truth and Tears...great title.

Then slam bang into the action which you conveyed with force.

Enjoyed your quip about Rod's "blood going back up to his brain" after his lamentable lapse with Gala. Also thought your observation that Luciana looked like a mixture of Snow White and Sleeping Beauty as she slept in her white nightgown. (a teensy bit incomprehesible that she could have dozed through all that noisy drama but still....)

The actress playing Paz was magnificent...just as powerful as when she confronted Roselena. And Linares equally so. Luciana tends to look a bit vacant-eyed in dramatic moments, but she's so lovely we'll have to forgive her.

A terrific episode and a flawless recap m'dear. Stop raising the bar so high, will 'ya?

as close to perfection as LHDM was for me in entertainment and character development, i always thought that Emiliano expecting Rosario to just move in to his high tech way way out there apartment where he had been with 'all the women' was totally out of order for him...
same happened here in Refugio.
Although for Emiliano's credit, the first thing he said to her was that if she did not like it he would buy her another one (more to her liking)... but still, even expecting her to 'want' to live in the apartment that very much symbolized the 'before Rosario/before Luci' era of the leading man was a stretch already.

Rodrigo needs to realize that he can't just drag Luci into the environment that is very much 'home' for him. he must be willing to come to a middle point where she will also be comfortable, and if and when they get back together, he needs to stop trying to force feed her to interact with his mother, the woman who treated her like trash. If Luci forgives Rosa, that does not mean that Luci will forgive and forget and make Rosa her bff just like that. and he NEEDS TO break off with anything that would remind him OR HER of Gala and his old 'singles' life.

Great recap, Vivi, you know just how to express the emotions of the characters and to stick in our thoughts, too, too bad the writers can't hear us. Thank you!

Vivi - awesome recap, as always.

Wow, after all that hand wringing and waffling over what to do, what to do, Paz certainly came through. Once she opened those floodgates, nothing was going to hold her back!! She was terrific!

And Rosa la Loca!! She really does Craz right, with those crazy eyes and all. She's got a lot of 'splaining to do with her BFFs. St. Peter is shining up the express "straight to hell" chute just for her.

I know I'm in the minority here (heck, I may be the only one), but I'm still pulling for Rod. He's one hunkalicious hombre. So he's had a few unbelievably stupid, macho-fueled moments. I still lurve him. oh well.

Again, great job, Vivi!

Paquita

I'm so glad to know I am not the only one still pulling for Rod. In fact, if this does not end with Rod & Luci together I will be major ticked!

Pata is uber sweet, but really all that sweetness annoys me.

It is really starting to get good now. I hope the inevitable Gala pregancy is fake. Otherwise it will put a major damper on the entire show!

^^ Pato, not Pata (obvioulsy)

There is no question that Rod will end up with Luci but not until he has some major growth. At this point he is nothing but a spoiled rich guy who has gotten everything he ever wanted with little or no effort. He has to earn our Luci.

As for Pato i don't see excessive sweetness at all. He is a kind man but he has a sting. He really calls Rod to task for his treatment of Luci and he has been noticeably annoyed with Rosa and he doesn't cave into her whims like everyone else does. He loves her but he recognizes her faults which Rod does not.

Hey NoleGirl- Don't worry. Your guy will eventually get the girl. :)

Anon 4:41- ITA about Rod and Pato. I don't see Pato as super sweet either. He's just a good guy, and he's way more sharp, perceptive and intelligent than Rod.

Paquita and Judy B.- Wasn't Paz (and the actress) great last night! So proud of her.

Emarie- Glad you liked the recap.

Decie Girl and Urban- I like the idea of the press conference. Both Max and Rosa would have a fit.

Gringo- These telenovelas can be so much fun. More over the top than English language dramas (these are soap operas afterall), but less over the top than English language "reality" shows.

Wow. I love these people even if they don't technically exist. And great recap Vivi. I hope Claudio can get some kind of vengence for all he has suffered. It'll hurt Rod and the other kids, but they're tough; they'll be fine. Maybe they can start a new company with Rod's biofuel idea and leave Max alone with his power trip.

I sure hope Rod goes off to that Canada trip and tells Gala to sod off (tribute to the Olympic hosts). He can tell his righteous mother that he was just using her to get over the girl he REALLY loves. And Rosa can go crazy-pray some more over the whole thing.

Where's Aldo? We could use him tonight for some comic relief.

Kelly

great recap vivi! prob fav line was 'NimRod is still playing dead, so Gala finally gets the message, gets dressed and leaves.' hahaha

but seriously does this girl have no dignity? if only it could be given as a present, that would totally be my good deed. line up these clinging female villains, & start passing it out one by one (cant help but imagine who would be in that line..)

can't not wait for when every1 (meaning the torreslanda family) finds out about lineras & luciana, thats totally gonna be a sweet, in your face, moment!

jlk

Paquita..glad you "outed" yourself as a Rod rooter. I'm in his corner too.
1) Because this is who Luciana loves. And he was her "first", and always.
2) Because it's really hard to hate a guy who looks that good in a towel.
3) Given how brief and recent their courtship was (not a lot of talk, really) it's understandable that he could be knocked off base temporarily. Trust in a person takes time to build. You have to go through a number of fights, misunderstandings and reconciliations before you really know what you can count on. It was unfortunate that this barrage of misinformation came so early in their relationship.

Sooo...Rod is Dead to Me gals, please don't throw tomatoes! I'm hoping they're together at the end.

Oh Judy, you always have a soft spot for the hunks. Gabino, Rod...I see a pattern.

jlk- Can I help you hand out that dignity? There are a LOT of tn bad girls who need some, badly!

Kelly- I'm sure they will give us some comic relief tonight after last night's intense episode. There really was no filler last night, which is nice sometimes.

Yep, you've got my number Vivi. Muscle definition addles my brain.
