Abismo de pasión #115 7/23/12: Gael visits Paloma and stays for dessert.
Lo Refrito:
Elisa and Lolita, missing their difunto loved ones, will carry on together.
Carmina crazy-talks to herself in the mirror, glad that the only witness against her (i.e. Horacio) is dead. He burnt like Blanca, bwahahaha karma got him. (Gonna get you too, ho bitch from hell).
Lo Nuevo:
Flor tells Dam that Fina MADE Flor get pregnant by Dam because she was desperate to separate him from Elisa. He knows Dam well that Fina is the Grand Manipulator and this is the best example. The proof? She dropped the charges against Guido.
Dam tries to leave in a snit but Flor stops him with a pity party, she is so alone boo hoo. She feels trapped and unhappy because she knows he never loved her. On her mother’s deathbed her papa swore he would be by her side on her wedding day. Dam sheds a tear, papa is dead, uncle is in jail, he swears she is not alone. Nope she says, you are here, but not with me.
Over at the Blue House II’s got her bags packed and she’s glad to be finally be moving out of Carmina’s house and into the life of luxury that Gabino promised her. II and Gab argue as usual, then make up as usual. Gab makes a face like “I’ll keep you around for sex but this ain’t gonna last forever.” (Actually I couldn’t read his face at all, I just said what I wanted him to think, hee.)
A relationship so boring that gossip is the highlight of the evening: Elisa tells Gael that she’s got the blues because Lolita got word that Horacio died in shoot-out and fire on the way to Campeche. Yes Horacio made bad decisions but she thinks he was trying to change. Unlike that loser and repeat offender Paolo who apparently raped Sabrina. He couldn’t stay away from the underage chicas, remember he knocked up Kenia too? To Elisa’s disgust Gael says poor wife of Damien, uncle in jail and her papa dead. QUE??? This is news to Elisa.
Mesero! A round of Blue Margaritas, por favor, the ladies on the patio are in mourning: With Padre’s words in the background Flor slides along the pew and grabs Fina’s hand as if to comfort her. “I hate you!” hisses Flor, and she provides a litany of everything Fina has torn from her life. She will never forgive Fina for what she did to her father. And by the way, she just told Dam that Fina made Flor get pregnant and he will always hate her for it. Furthermore, she intends to teach her child to hate Fina as much as Flor does for all the damage that Fina has done. Fina squirms as Flor grabs Fina’s head and gives her a kiss on the cheek. A raucous cheer of appreciation comes from the patio. Finally the writers have given Altair a juicy scene. ‘Bout time!
Back at Casa Castanon Brau comforts Lolita over Horacio’s death. She can count on him for any help she needs. As for him, he is happy to be working for Elisa and he hopes Chente will learn to be proud of him. He doesn’t want to return to Tonia although he wants to protect both her and Chente from town gossip. Chente’s real father is GABINO MENDOZA. Cara impactada de Lolita.
Flor sobs over papa’s casket. She promises that she will make him proud of her. Enter Elisa. The two babes stare at each other over the casket.
II loves Gab’s new hacienda, it’s huge and fantastic! Gabino says at last La Ermita will know he is as good as the boss of all bosses, Rosendo Arango...may he rest in peace.
Fina wanders around her dark house bawling for Guido to forgive her. A door opens and shuts. A hand holds a gun. Someone turns the light on. It’s Horacio, slightly the worse for wear, “Good evening Alfonsina, do you remember me?” She calls him a criminal and worse and tells him to beat it as the police will be looking for him. Nopis, he says, they think he’s dead. Thanks to that infeliz GABINO MENDOZA he lost his only chance at happiness. If Fina protects him and helps protect the people he loves, he will give her the weapons to make GABINO MENDOZA pay for every dirty thing he has done.
Elisa tells Flor she is there to offer her condolences, not to laugh at Flor’s problems. She knows Flor feels alone and unprotected so Flor needs to find another reason to live. Time heals all wounds. Flor sobs that if Elisa thinks they are alike just because they are orphans then she is more than wrong. SHE (Flor) has Dam and SHE carries his fakechild in her womb, nyaaaah! That is something that Elisa will never have. Elisa thinks maybe it was a mistake that she came. (Ya think, dumba$$?)
An answer to our prayers, let’s jump ahead to Months Later in Mexico City: Flor is fooling Fina with the help of the Dirty Doctor, his No-Good Nurse and their ultrasound DVD. Gosh, the fakebaby is getting so big! Fina gushes he’s clearly a complete Arango; Flor rolls her eyes, as do the rest of us. Doc reassures Fina everything is going fine and there is nothing to worry about.
Back at the La Anita ProCe Dam whines to Maru about all the money they are losing. Maru claims that since Braulio left a lot of good people followed him. While things are getting worse for them things keep getting better for Gael and Elisa. Unfortunately for them it’s hard to compete with the dream team of Lucio, Braulio and Enrique Tovar.
Oho! Welcome to the sparkling white, brand spanking new Procesadora de Habanero Castanon. Elisa welcomes the new employees and thanks them for their faith in her. She is even sporting her version of exective-wear, a dress that is only cut down to mid-boobage and skirt length ending just above her shapely knees. She hasn’t managed to get rid of her mangy boots and ridiculous bracelets, but it’s a start. Her dress is a color match for Gael’s spiffy new plaid (of course) shirt. She thanks the dream team and most of all the clean-shaven Gael. A tearful thanks to her mama and papa conclude the first company meeting.
Lucio seems a little down in the mouth. Elisa and Gael can’t understand why their joy doesn’t animate him. Never mind, they are happy and that’s all that matters.
Up on Witch Mountain Ramona and Paloma are having a rip snorter of an evening. Both have chins in hands, moping. Paloma recalls a night that she pathetically threw herself at Gael, questioned his decision to marry Elisa, and told him Elisa could never love him like she does. In fact she doesn’t believe Gael truly loves Elisa and she’s going to prove it to him. Daydream interrupted. (What? She didn’t eat her Cochinita Pibil because she was mooning over Gael? That girl ain’t right.) Ramona notes Pal is acting very half-hearted (desganada) and her color’s not right. (Ruh Roh,) Ramona says in spite of Paloma acting like a blockhead half the time she really loves her and she’s worried about Paloma’s health. Paloma needs to try to forget Gael. Not gonna happen, weeps Paloma.
Gael proudly shows Elisa their new house. He knows she’s used to finer things but he promises their procesadora will be the best in the region and she’ll get everything she deserves. He notes she still seems a little sad. She admits she misses her friend Paloma. Gael looks out the window and recalls that same evening with Paloma, when she asked how could he forget the night they made love, their kisses, their caresses. Elisa asks him what he’s thinking about. “Oh...nada. Uh, here are our wedding rings.” Loud snorts from the patio.
Carmina, matching the orange paint scheme, slithers into her kitchen, a kitchen filled with plentiful and artfully-placed Tostachos, to annoy Lolita and dis Elisa’s new business. Lolita gets pithed with the TangelHo, swears Elisa’s business and marriage will be a success, and throws a dirty dish-towel after Orangina.
Shirtless, hunky, horrible Gabino is in his tierras yelling at the workers and having a hissy fit. One of the workers says there is nothing they can do, Gab’s habaneros are crap and have contracted la plaga, fumigating didn’t help because of Ramona’s curse. Just then Ramona rides up on her chariot. She yells that the worker tells the truth. The land is cursed just like Gabino’s soul, the lands of Cielo Abierto will never produce a single habanero until they are returned to the hands of their rightful owner Elisa Castanon! Gabino snorts a habanero and sneers at the amused workers. Then he flexes his neck in fury. Ooh la la.
Paloma is at work still obsessing about Gael and that same night she and Gael keep dreaming about. Paloma is determined to make him question his love for Elisa. Enough talking, her red dress drops in a heap around her ankles. “If you really don’t feel anything for me then leave.” Gael’s clothing leaves his body; the rest of him stays. (Which begs the question, if hot naughty sex was what happened, why did Pal and Gael keep daydreaming about the endless conversation? I know, I know, adjust beanies and move forward. Mesero!!!)

Hmm, let's see...
Wow, Agent Orange having the audacity to laugh because KARMA got somebody? I suggest you look over your shoulder, ho. 'Cause the Anvil is a'coming and it's going to hurt.
I'm as happy as a pig in slop that Princess Pea ratted Fina out to Dam Ridiculous. Not only that, I got to hear her actually call herself egotistical and a FOOL. *applause, applause, blows a trombone in triumph* And that scene with Princess Pea sticking it to Fina in the front pew was FANTASTIC. The stuff of my dreams. Too bad estupida is STILL half-lying about her fake, slow-growing baby bump. I guess babies just grow on trees in Ermitaville and she's sure she'll be able to go right out into the habanero fields and pick one from a bush.
ING is like a drug addict who snorts pesos to survive. I really want to see her flattened by an Anvil. But then again, maybe the best punishment for this dangerous b*tch would be incarceration, so that she'd suffer in withdrawal from her drug forever. Que horror.
What oh what is Fina to do? Horacio is not playing around!
Loved seeing Elisa's new Pro Ce. It's about time something good happened to that girl. She's gotten the short straw for years when it came to love, business, parents, you name it. And maybe if Gael had been Paloma's to lose, I'd be inclined to be mad at her. But he wasn't. So I'm not.
Speaking of Paloma, that poor child is getting on my last nerve. It's obsession like hers that turns young women into out of control menaces like TangelHo and ING later in life. She needs to stop this **** now. Maybe she and Sabrina can start a support group together, heck, I don't know.
(I do find it interesting that Gael keeps thinking about their little session, too. Hmmmmm.)
So, GABINO and his workers thought Ramona's little speech was funny, eh? I don't know why, when they were all standing in a field of effed-up chiles. Stupids. LOL
What a weird end to the episode. How much air time did they spend on Pal/Gall flashbacks anyway? Too much, if you ask me, good grief. Get to the point.
Thanks again for the awesome recap, Sylvia. :)
I think the writers took a vacation and they've let the interns finish up. The jump was mind-blowing. So, Flo is further along, and since Stoopidoo seems to be his usual brain-dead self, seems to be fine in the D/F relationship. Which begs the question-he has not caught on to the padding. So not so great a marriage? Do they share a bed?
And what is Flo's plan at this point. Where is she going to get said bebe? If they come up with Pal as preggers, Flo seems a bit far along for that now. Beanie, where's my beanie.
Horacio shows, Horacio disappears. Would have liked to see where he went and how he's hiding out. Has Alfi got him stashed? Clarification please. See more of this than what we got.
Ok, and for the totally PATHETIC scenes. Yes writers, we need to be drummed over the head now that Gael's endless love for Elisa is suddenly going because of a clingy, moody, pathetic Paloma and that opens the door for the "true, happy" couple to get back together. I'm sorry, hate when they start messing with character's good personalities and feelings just to make a plot happen. Guess they need to make Gael become more and more, well pathetic himself. And Pal--MONTHS later she is still mooning like that? Still can't find my beanie!
It's official, I don't care if any of the fearsome foursome ride off into the horribly orchestrated happy ending. Even my poor Gael, they've just ruined him. I'll watch for the ruinations of the bad guys---except for II, who needs to go NOW, they are far more interesting.
I also laughed out loud at "mangy boots and ridiculous bracelets" and nodded in vigorous agreement with: "A relationship so boring that gossip is the highlight of the evening..."
ITA that Altair finally got to show her acting skills during that scene with Fina. Interesting how Fina actually looked scared at tiny blonde Flor's mutterings yet regally scathingly scolded a very menacing gun toting Horacio.
I didn't expect Horacio to show up at Fina's. I give him credit for being so cunning. I'm glad that it will be he who sets Gabino's demise into motion. Whatever he is or has done, he does love Lolita - certainly not enough to erase what he has done but hopefully enough to earn him some credit in his inevitable death.
"Gabino snorts a habanero and sneers at the amused workers". Hmmm. I loathe him yet must admit I am somewhat transfixed by this character. I find my lip curling yet can't look away.
I could not figure out what was going on with Gael and Paloma if it was fantasy or reality. As you noted "ruh roh"...
The comments are on fire too with Stephe's: "ING is like a drug addict who snorts pesos to survive" and daisy's:
"I think the writers took a vacation and they've let the interns finish". Hysterical!
Happy Friday all!
Diana
I loved the Flor-Alfie scene in the chapel. Yes, if only Flor wasn't continuing on with her stupid fake baby plan.
I find it hard to believe that Elisa set up that huge precesadora with NO MONEY! How?!! She mentioned in her speech that Quique and others invested their money. How does that make the proce hers then? They aren't just getting their habaneros from Elisa's lands, so why isn't the proce the property of the actually investors (you know, the people with the money), and Elisa not just another contracted farmer? If someone has a logical explanation for this please share.
Gael and Paloma are low down dirty hos. Enough said.
So, has Paolo been in jail all this time?
Looks like Horacio's going to be around a while, so I'm putting a big rock on the card table to keep it from blowing away in the next wind. Can we get some taquitos over here?
Surely you jest Vivi!! Logical...this TN!! I think we would come up with more sensible story lines putting plot developments on the patio dartboard and taking turns seeing what we come up with.
But I laughed too-- I mean that place was beyond "new business setup". My guess is she is the figure-head CEO who isn't really running the show, but it looks good since it was her mother's lands that started the whole thing. QuiQui is probably running the office, Braulio the warehouse, Lucio is chief advisor and Gael the fields/greenhouse. She just stands there and looks pretty. Haul her out when you're signing up new vendors.
One of the assistants in my office started watching this and caught me in the hall this morning with "what the hell was that with PalGal (that's what she calls them) last night?" Said it infuriated her that apparently hot sex with Pal trumped years of more "love from the heart" - her words- for him. It didn't the first time they showed them, why suddenly now. Told her where she can find a good beanie.
Oh, and she also said "did you notice Pal's outfit with Ramona?" Which I didn't. She said that the top was a looser longer top over the skirt and that she found it interesting the way Pal got up away from the camera, and then out the door. She thinks she's already preggers and that's why she is all mopey. Anyone else notice that? I have to go back and re-watch.
Daisy: I was wondering why Paloma hadn't become pregnant - this is novelaland and it happens with the first try. Nothing can be hidden from Ramona - maybe she'll give Paloma a drink of special tea. No, I take that back, she isn't that mean.
Florencia showed real grief last night. For a moment I actually felt sorry for her. Touche with Alfonsina. Can't wait for the scene when she delivers the fake baby. That's going to be the coup de grace when Alfonsina discovers that.
Good old Horacio. He really looked like he had just left a fire. Alfonsina now has another dangerous ally. Lucky for us.
Florencia is still proceeding with this fake baby scam. Where she intends to get a baby, we don't...
We learned Paloma doesn't "look well."
We learned Gael cheated on Elisa with Paloma.
We learned Paloma still thinks showing her goodies is the way to capture a man
Paloma learned Gael likes her goodies but not enough to dump Elisa and come back to her.
We learned Gael is thinking about Paloma's goodies [and after he gets Elisa's goodies he'll still be thinking about Paloma's b/c I think Elisa will be about as sexy & exciting as Lucia from LFDD]
We learned Gael owns a razor.
We learned La PRO CE SA DO RA is failing.
We learned Ramona put a hex on Cielo Abierto to deliver shriveled, dried up chiles until Elisa gets it back.
We learned Ingrid is a greedy ho, instead of taking her suitcase of money and skipping town she wants to stay and luxuriate in Gabino's hacienda.
We learned Damian either is too busy with the failing procesadora or just doesn't care enough to go to Florencia's OBGYN appointment with her.
We learned Lucio is still depressed.
check this out.

Wow, you sure got a slushpile this time, Cap'n. Fortunately you have the talent to turn it into frozen margaritas. "Gael Visits Paloma and Stays for Dessert" -- snort!
I agree that Altair finally got a great scene to work with... That Flo/Alfie scene at the chapel was wonderful.
daisynjay,
"I think the writers took a vacation and they've let the interns finish". Hysterical!
and your...

priceless!
So, has Paolo been in jail all this time?
good question!
for a while i was working my head out with 'how can they pass Paloma as pregnant if Gael and her had their powow over 6 mos ago? then we get the end scenes and it makes more sense, although it puts both Gael and Paloma on some shaky waters...
Did anyone else notice that Lucio's depression is showing more on his health now? i would not be surprised he is found dead one of these days... although if he does not walk Elisa down the aisle, who will?
Great observation. Especially the "police are a joke". The fact that everyone bought into the death of Gweedo, including the Doc, as a shower accident was dumbfounding. II clocked him over the head a couple times. Plus, her blasted fingerprints were all over that room. Second time the inept force didn't bother to check for fingerprints that could have led to a whole other conclusion. Ok - I need to not get too into the convenient plot developments that have been used-- I left my beanie at home and I don't like kool aid.
Damien and Gael are truly their father's sons. Unwise sex with the wrong person.
Gael... Paloma
Damien... Florencia
Rosendo... Ingrid, Carmina, and one could make a case for Alfonsina
Anon, as for the police, don't forget treating Blanca's death as an accident even with a padlock on the door, and also assuring Dolores that Horacio is dead.
I'm glad that Horacio and Alfonsina are teaming up. Adiós, Gabino. Ingrid... next!
Carlos
Paloma told her on the street that she was dead to her, so Elisa is a bit naive & silly to whine about Paloma not being her friend for the past 5-6 months. That friendship boat has sailed anyway because once Elisa finds out* about Gael cheating on her with Paloma/Pal's pregnancy it's going to be over anyway.
*I wouldn't be surprised if Carmina found out about Gael/Paloma and told Elisa about it on her wedding day. She does like to ruin weddings, doesn't she?
[Gabino] "then flexes his neck in fury. oooh la la". Vintage Sylvia. Thanks again.
I wouldn't mind the writers speeding this up and botching the job if we could just skip to Ultimos Capitulos and end this mess. When will we see those magic words on our screen?
Thanks again Sylvia for a great recap, starting with the title and sailing on till the end.
It was well played but then zass! she's plotting vengeance on Alfonsina, staying with the fake baby plot (whose bambino will be stolen?) and ripped into Elisa (not that I minded...that girl is so wet)but still, realized I'd been completely taken in by her earlier remorse.
Ditto for Alfonsina who seemed so grief-stricken over Guido, but snapped right back to Super-Bitch mode when Horacio arrived. Really admire her guts when facing down miscreants. Too bad she's such an evil controlling witch.
Carlos
ITA with y'all that the writing has become confusing and sloppy. Makes it hard to watch, but fun to recap.
Elisa annoys the heck out of me, but I like her ponytail.
JudyB, I also thought Flo might be on the road to redemption, but if so it sure didn't last long.
The comments have been spectacular again too. The writers have left the poor interns to finish this mess but (forgive me for desiring something approaching logic) my question is when did this Gal/Pal tryst take place? Before the ridiculous E/G engagement? If it occurs after that makes both characters horrible. Thanks in advance for your input.
Flo had an excellent scene w/Fina but the fake baby plot will be the end of her.
Now that Fina has teamed up with Horacio, I look forward to the results. Carlos, I can't join you at her table but will send more Bitter Widows. Love your list of the wrong partner.
Right now the only think I'm looking forward to his the deadly team of Alfonsina and Horacio. Can't wait to see how they wreak havoc on Gabino, II and Carmina.
Last night's episode was so boring that I started longing for Tostito product placements.
. . . Padre Loopy in the confessional, tries to open a fresh bag without making any noise, while Paloma prattles on about being pregnant.
. . . Backed into a corner by a fork-wielding Lolita, Carmina whips out a bowl of irresistible salty goodness. Lolita, her wrath evaporating, sighs and drops her weapon. "What the hell? They look delicious."
Alas, the energy got sucked out of this novela when Augusto was murdered. Our village needs its tortured soul back.
I think the whole episode should just be hosed with a flame-thrower and they start over again.
I didn't really notice Pal's looser choice of clothing because, frankly, I was bored stupid and not paying attention. Gah.
I am so on board with everyone's Tostacho munching ideas. Anything to add a little spice to this Abismo de Pendejos.
I wouldn't mind the writers speeding this up and botching the job if we could just skip to Ultimos Capitulos and end this mess. When will we see those magic words on our screen?
Not until capitulo 151 - or at least that was when they started flashing "two weeks left" on the Mexican TV screens.
Thanks much Cap'n Sylvia. Lots of plot nonsense, but I also adored the scene where Florencia told off Alfabitch. Let the mean old lady get a taste of her own bitter medicine - or at least visualize reaping what she has sowed. Alfonsina looked appropriately horrified and frightened - that was very satisfying!
In today's paper the linguists are arguing about whether Indo-European languages were originally spread by the sword or the hoe. If these guys were tn watchers (and had met Killer Orange or II, say), they might entertain a third origin: a ho bearing a sword.
I think we better lay in quite a stash of the necessary beverages of a alcoholic nature for the patio. We're going to need it WELL before 151 I think if this last episode is anything to go by.
I may be at a table in the corner labeled Cheer on the Antagonists. There is a little anvil centerpiece-can't miss it. Those folks are keeping this thing interesting, I say why not support them in all their soon to be intrigues and demises.
I absolutely love the idea of a Cheer on the Antagonists table.
Julia, your comment made we want to run right out and get some Tostachos, LOL.
So Horacio is back from the fiery depths. Alfie could be a good ally for him. I don't think she has much against him to betray him.
Loved the scene with Flo and Alfie. Good acting for once.
I want some Tostachos too!
--TF
"A relationship so boring that gossip is the highlight of the evening:"
Oh thank you! I had to FFWD--> thru that segment. Could not bear another second of that tontería. Well, to be perfectly honest, I FFWDed--> thru most of this episode.
I was cheering Flo on when she sidled up to Alfie and gave her the "I hate you" in church! I wanted to go sit at the Flo table on the patio, but I won't until she loses the fake baby.
What I would REALLY love to see is Flo whip that fake pregnancy pillow out and throw it at Alfie's face.
I see and hear anvils over Ingrid's head. This cannot end up well for her.
The Tostacas (sp?) product placement, during the Carmina/Lolita/Elisa kitchen scene, was a little much, no? Tostacas on both walls behind the ladies, the place looked like a food addict's stash.
Gabino in the fields with his workers reminded me of Simon Legree. Yeesh. All he lacked was the whip.
Stephe said: I think the whole episode should just be hosed with a flame-thrower and they start over again.
I so totally agree.
Anon at 10:05: Amen! You said what so many of us have been thinking. Three recent, violent deaths in the sleepy little village, and the cops can't come up with anything better than suicide!?
And Flor's Plan B? Looks more like Plan A-2. Is the 'Gyn-Dr. Ernesto' going to find a real fake baby for Flor? And obviously the nurse is in on the fake ultrasound. This is one of the dumbest storylines ever.
C'mon, writers! Pull this TN together - or end it!
Anya
I did notice that Gabino was sitting on a zebra chair the other night when he was wearing the Prince of Darkness's belt buckle.
She should bring Sarita with her. She and her costume collection could spice up both Damian's life and the viewing experience!
Has anyone noticed that Gael and Elisa only kiss each other as a brother and sister would? No wonder Gael has cheated with Paloma. At least she shows some passion with him. And now that seems to be all he is thinking about. And with the pregnancy, he won't be marrying Elisa anyway.
The doctor for Flo is the same guy who played the doctor on La Que No Podia Amar, except he was a good doctor on that one. Will Flo somehow get Paloma's baby? Doubt it, but where will the fake baby come from?
Sorry to be off-topic but this movie was so good, I'd like everybody to see it. Especially since it's based on a true story and you see the two people it was written about at the very end.
Yes, the actor who plays Flo's doc
portrayed medicos in La Que No Podia
Amar and Corazon Salvaje (featuring Rene Casados, playing a character whom the Dominican janitor in my building and I referred to as Pelo Loco for his magnificent hairdo).
Did you know that a movie based on "L'élégance du hérisson" will be out on DVD in a few days? I came across it on TV and managed to catch only the last 20 minutes (drat). But my cable service will be showing it again after 8/28 when the DVD is released. Netflix will have it too -- look for "The Hedgehog" if you're interested.
Novela Maven, thank you for the heads up on the DVD. Amazingly, my library has it! I just put myself on the queue to borrow it.
We've never had Netflix but I occasionally see interesting movies that a friend lends me.
I've got to try to stay up later and not just watch the DVR when I get an alert that someone's been stabbed.
Great recap. Crazy weird show.
Wow. I don't really know what to say. Blue is right, the show has been kidnapped by a group of new show runners. I can't tell if writers are involved.
Our characters have changed character overnight. Innocent and entitled Paloma has become a femme fatale, seducing a willing Gael. Gael looked pretty into it.
Elisa is now a mini-mogul with a ponytail, but she still sports the cowboy boots.
Florencia is tougher but not yet a good person and Horacio is Alfie's ally.
I need to take notes. I have no idea where they are taking this thing.
