Caray, Caray!

Sylvia I have read your recaps for years and this is a gem. Proving yet again that as TNs decrease in quality, the recaps increase. The menu theme was brilliant and your comments were fun too. "Begoña never quite gets it, does she?"

I wanted to do a Paloma rant but will simply chalk this really bad turn of events to the extension.

Poor dumb Doc. Where is Ramona and her predictions when you need them? He needs a good male friend to re-educate him about women. Between the murderesses and his silly ex-wife he's a disaster. Thank goodness for kids (though we all know Sabrina needs an intervention too.)

Great and what a menu!

When the hell is anyone going to know the truth here? Ramona is long overdue to tell Elisa what really happened way back when, and she should be outing that brat Florencia to Damian and Alfonsina. May Florencia's nightmare come true.
 

What we learned last night:

Begona learned Enrique wants to marry Paloma & she's not having it.

Gael & Elisa learned that Vallodolid (?) is a swell town that's being renovated & rejuvenated and you should really go there.

Braulio & Lolita learned Tostachos are very tasty.

We learned that Remedios once worked in Alfonsina's house.


Observation:

Remedios has been mentioned by name a lot lately, so usually that's a sign the character will soon show up. But Ramona clearly stated to Alfonsina she buried Remedios, so I guess she'll be showing up in flashbacks. The only other dead characters mentioned by name a lot are Estefania & Rosendo.
 

Also, Damian should learn he had a twin brother named "Bruno Lombardi" that lived on the other side of Merida, and channel some of Bruno's badness to get Florencia, Gabino & Alfonsina off his back.

I learned a new idiom this week, from watching this mess. Isn't that why we watch telenovelas?

Have a great time this weekend Sylvia! And gracias for this wonderful recap! Our recappers are such gems to manage to take the absolute most boring, stoopidddd episodes and make the recap for them absolute gems!

Now we know how they will be stretching this TN out. Tours, product placement scenes, endless yacking in multiple scenes where one scene of two minutes would suffice. This is going to be painful.

But since the food is free (I think that management is worried we will leave before this is over) I will take some of that Clash of the Titans (plus I love steamed crab--hope that have melted butter tp dip it in. yum). In this TN, it's always more fun to see the old pros going at each other than dealing with the 20-somethings.

I so want that blasted gun to be aimed at II and just end our agony with this character.( Hats off to the extreme humidity for ruining her tendrils--HAHA) I enjoy watching Salvadore having fun with the Gab role, but it seems when she comes in to the scene, it just goes south.

WTH with Fina? That was just over the top sitting there watching Flo sleep? Wow, talk about the real nightmare coming to life. Poor Flo is so over her head.

So I'm sure it will be another yawner tonight. Maybe I'll postpone the pain and watch over the weekend. Hope everyone has a great holiday weekend!!
 

My goodness Sylvia...you were writing on steroids last night...every dang word and heading were brilliant. I'm dazzled.

Of course I loved your shoutout to Kitchen Table Wisdom. Thanks amiga. And the fishing theme with "this flopping cod" and "fillets him", especially after noting how Ingrid buried her face in his crotch, was especially wicked.

Other favorites (among a gazillion) were "potential muchability" and "he connects the wrong dots".

This was simply one of your finest, m'dear. Hope you have the fabulous weekend that you deserve after turning out this stunner.
 

Hmmm - somehow I missed that we were getting a tour of Vallodolid! I guess I have to watch that part again now that I read a little bit about the town.

I just couldn't get over how Gael and Elisa looked like they just wandered from the farm fields into town. What was with the (dirty looking) huge hankerchief hanging out of Gael's back pocket - I guess it went along with the soiled jeans. And even my husband was wondering out loud what the he** is Elisa wearing?
 

Props for concept and presentation, Sylva. (Even the Russian judge has given you a 10). The menu, however, is a bit difficut -- it does tend to stick in one's craw. (Confidentially, I have seen folks sneaking in bags of La vache qui rit, boxes of HoHos and pockets ful of Snickers onto the pation.

P.S. Last night's tour was in downtown Mérida, I believe.

I'm really mad that the writers didn't let us in on the secret of what Flo is planning. But it must make sense if Ramona is considering going along with it.

Yes, the two lovers on a tour of the city are still acting like brother and sister. Are they seriously going to get married and never once have an intense makeout session, or even a kiss on the lips, let alone exploring hands session? Gael, run run run. It's a window into your marriage. She just wants to be friends.
 

Cap'n Sylvia - thank you for the wonderful menu! You took crumby leftovers and came up with haute cuisine! I especially loved your Fluffernutters; they were a favorite for lunch when I was a kid. I'm going to the store to find Fluff this morning!

Anon207 - thank you for the note abut Remedios. It did seem to me that her name has come up a lot lately. And now Ramona mentioned her in the context of Gabs being partly responsible for Remedios' death (single motherhood? his refusal to marry her?)

I'm thinking the pairing will be: Dam/ELiar, Gal/Pal and Flor/Qui. But eight weeks to get there?! This TN is dragging.

That's quite a pistola Fina is brandishing in the advances. With all the guns we've been seeing lately, someone's going to be shot. Maybe the writers?

I don't think Ingrid would risk Gael going to jail, that would risk her getting her hands on the Arango fortune. She needs Gabino, Alfonsina and Damian dead and then after she gets her hooks into Gael she'll need Gael & Elisa dead so she can walk away with everything.
 

Sylvia, you are brilliant. I haven't seen this episode yet since it came on so late last night, but I really enjoyed the imaginative replating with your seasoning.

Sizzling and sensational Sylvia. You made my Friday! I smiled and laughed delightedly throughout. Yes, I was feeling a bit peckish but you brought me out of the end of the workweek exhaustion with such marvels as: "Fried Local Fish and Chippie" (snort worthy), "...neither of these flavorless blobs" and "Skewered Scream Puff".

I share the sentiments of Karen in that you continue to heighten and meet everything we want in a recap. And more. Gracias amiga.

Low Sodium Diet: Elisa and Gael - Thank the telenovela gods that neither of these flavorless blobs is your real-life tour guide to Valladolid and its environs. Yawn. Mute. AMEN, sister! Every time those two came on the screen I wanted to fall asleep. Gael and II really are related because both of them have the same, boring effect. And then I loved your follow up re: these two: "Hold the spice"! HAHAHAHA. Yep, there is no spice where these two are concerned.

Also loved "No buns in the oven with a side of bitter herbs"!!! Dang, you're clever.

Anon 207, you hit it on the head re: Bruno. I watched Sortilegio on DVD so was very apprehensive of David Zepeda being nice enough to play a leading man. Who knew he would go the other extreme and be a pushover/doormat. Come on, let's see some of that tough guy! Now his pro-ce is being run into the ground. Man up, Dam!

I feel like this TN is totally adrift right now. I don't know what to think. Why are we on such meaningless storylines like whatever the heck II and Gab are scheming at Casa Beltram. So don't care. Let's bring it back into focus. Let's have the bodas with some twists and upsets!

Ahoy and thanks for all your fun comments. What a great group. I managed to find a sliver of 3G by standing far out on a cliff in the bracing wind so thiswill be short. Glad you enjoyed the menu. Ho Hos will be added, very appropriate, and the crabs and fluffernutter are a keeper. Suddenly I'm starving so it's back to camp for some lunch. Have a great weekend!

While the recaps continue to be excellent, there is less and less to say about the show, isn't there? I know I stayed in 'Rational Hall' (thanks Novela Maven!)far too long trying to make sense of this hot mess but now that I have relaxed on the Patio with my friends, I haven't really got anything to say.
I feel like I lose a few IQ points watching each night's show.

Audrey: Elisa was wearing yet another redo of my Aunt Ruby's crocheted cat blankets from the '60's. I am a big fan of upcyling, but maybe this takes the concept a little too far. And I know they have a washing machine at the Padre's digs! Shame on you Gael, for appearing in public with out a shower, a clean pair of jeans and kerchief.

cathyx - I'm guessing the same thing. Last night's antics brought to my mind the old William Hurt/Kathleen Turner film "Body Heat."

When Florencia first appeared I was very disappointed in her. She was weak, clingy, and frankly not very interesting. Altair Jarabo is one of my favorites and is at her best as a selfish, devious, conniving beauty. Finally Florencia is worthy of her.

Lately everything she says appears to contain a kernel of truth, irony, and vague sincerity so I am puzzling over what she meant by that statement. I have absolutely no idea what her new plan is but she has certainly recaptured my interest.

Here at the Horacio table, we still have high hopes and will be serving Angels on Horseback (oysters wrapped in bacon) until further notice.
 

Someday, just for variety, I'd like to see Altair Jarabo play a sweet, humble girl who wears jeans and sneakers and works hard. I did like her the most as a saucy snob in Llena de Amor and Al Diablo con los Guapos, but I'd like to see more range.
 

Julia, I think you have to have a major after-market rack to play the protagonista. She could be the best friend, though.
 

"Major after-market rack". Exactly. I hope Altair never deforms herself to get the main role, but silicone does seem to be the stepping stone to heroine status.
 

I think she's a big enough star and has proved that people think she's beautiful as is that she could get a lead role without any enhancements. Not ALL protagonistas are inflated. Mili in Guapos wasn't. Also...ummm...there must have been others, besides just in juvenile shows (but in a kinda-juvenile show, Niña de Mi Corazón, the leading lady spent a lot of the show cross-dressing, and her smaller-sized natural chest was fairly essential to pulling this off).
 

Luciana in Refugio is normal shaped. She probably wouldn't have gotten the role if she was (re-)shaped like our Elisa. Altair is lovely just as she is. Let's hope some network big-wig doesn't try to convince her otherwise.
 

It's ironic: Brazil is supposed to be the hotbed of this kind of plastic surgery but Globo TV has actresses on the payroll who don't have this enhancement. Also, a number of actors in their studio don't have such extensive dental cosmetic work that their teeth glow in the dark. Finally, a lot of their men don't work out as much as the Televisa guys to get the kind of bodies we're used to seeing these days.

These are the people who are cast in novelas de epoca for greater verisimilitude. Telemundo should have thought about this when casting Paula Barreto in Dona Barbara, which is supposed to have taken place in the 1920s. Her surgery was so obvious that the writers put words in Edith Gonzales' mouth about it (and we all know that Edith has had hers done at least twice). It's crazy because such boobage wasn't even fashionable in the 20s.
 

I'd like to see Margarita Magana in a leading role, too -- I love her.
 

These ugly outfits that Elisa wears...please tell me...is the new moda in Mexico? These outfits are u.g.l.y. I just don't get it. Does anyone find these get ups attractive? That little crochet number Elisa has worn the past few days looks like it came straight out of the Goodwill recycle pile.

I'm still trying to wrap my brain around the way Paloma dresses to go to work (when she does work, that is). Boobs everywhere!

I have had to watch this series on Primicia TV. For the past few days, the programs will not run.

Not all of us can access the Spanish language channels. Sites like Primicia have been really useful in trying to follow these stories.

At the bottom of the google page, they acknowledge that they have had to block all these sites running the telenovelas due to a request by a company owned by Televisa. So if you can't get it on your TV you are probably going to be very frustrated indeed. I believe that there's a program called Hulu where you can see the episodes the next day for a subscription of about $7 a month. So that's one possibility.
 

P.S. In answer to an earlier question, Ramona alluded once to her daughter Remedios dying in childbirth. But who knows if the writers remember having written that?

Like Judy B said, you can access the episodes on hulu.com. You get one day old shows, but you can watch them for free online. Click on TV, foreign, scroll down and click on Spanish and look for or type in abismo de pasion.
