El Mundo de Telemundo, Week of August 20, 2012: Discuss Amongst Yourselves
Miggy and Feral Fabiola have a major shootout at the hotel in Colombia.
D8D tells Willy that the folder he handed him contains the name of a witness who has changed their statement about Nora. Willy reminds him that this doesn’t fix things. D8D made an indecent proposal to his woman. Sam says it’s odd he’s come up with this now. D8D lies some more and says he was looking into this because Nora kept insisting she was innocent in prison. But when he thought she burned up, he didn’t pursue it. Willy says he had thought Nora was in prison for vengeance because of Darío being her lover, but this is a new side to the story.
Willy asks to be alone with his father and asks him what he wants in return. D8D says it’s only for love. He gave the house to Nicolás and to Willy. Nora will be free. Willy isn’t buying his repentance, and asks him if D8D thought about those days they spent together when he was a boy when he propositioned Sam. D8D tells him he loves Willy but Sam makes him crazy.
Willy’s last comment is a good one. He says that his father was always a canalla, but the one time he, Willy, went to the bad side and tried to run D8D off the road, look at how he ended up. And D8D is better than ever.
Miggy questions FF. You’ve lived your whole life like this [being pursued and shot at]? He wonders where she got the gun and where she learned to shoot.
Willy asks for JM’s help in getting Nora out. But JM figures out what Viewerville has already thought about: Ángela won’t have Nora to protect her against the Reptile.
We get some scenes showing just how feral Fabiola is. She doesn’t want to give up her gun to board the plane and tries to bolt at the sight of the aircraft.
Esteban asks Sam about her agency. She tells him her life is Willy and her son, and she’ll ask Pablo to run the agency. She tells him she wants him to get busy on the annulment.
Ofelia is surprised D8D decided to get Nora out of there. She also says he’s had the proof of Nora’s innocence a long time. He gripes that he had to give the narco more money than when he paid him to get her in jail in the first place. He tells Ofe that he did a good thing. Nora deserved it and he deserves the love of his son. When she asks him if he’s giving up his pursuit of Sam, he replies “never”.
Willy comes to see Nora to tell her she’ll soon be free. He tells her that D8D was the one who arranged it.
When Gus comes to see Ángela she confesses to kissing JM. She wanted to see how it felt. He is her husband, after all. Gus asks if she wants him to stay away, but she says no. Maybe she’s being selfish, but he gives her peace. She doesn’t want the hurricanes she feels with JM.
D8D offers Cecilia an apartment if she’ll tell him why Miggy went to Colombia and what is the interest in Fabiola Ferrara. She turns him down.
Willy visits the Reptile and says he can’t believe what she did. She tells him she doesn’t regret anything. He tells her Nora is going to be free.
Jessica is having problems with her father and comes to stay at Casa del Castillo.
FF marvels at the LA skyline when she and Miggy arrive. When they get to Casa Arroyo, FF is completely intimidated and runs away. Miggy, of course, finds her.
JM comes to tell Dummy Duval that Ángela is to have special care from now on because that psycho Fernanda threatened her. Gus has already taken care of that.
Willy wants Sam to go to work. He jokes that she’s the breadwinner now.
When Nora is about to leave and being congratulated by other inmates, the Reptile grabs her and accuses her of abandoning her again. She starts to beat up poor Nora.
JM comes down to greet FF, saying he’s her brother. She tells him a bit of her story. Her father got lost in the jungle and she spent 8 years there looking for him. She was surrounded by animals, trees, and nature. She doesn’t like cities. Miggy convinced her to come here, but she’s a free person and is going to leave. JM tells her no one will prevent her leaving, but she has a home and a family here if she wants it.
Willy decides to have a man-to-man talk with Nicolás. He doesn’t realize Jessica is in the room as well. He tells him the family history of his male line all being being womanizers, and when Nico's Del Castillo genes wake up, watch out! Of course, he says Sammy has changed him. Jess gets irritated at this tale of hereditary wandering eyes and storms out, with Nico right behind her.
The Reptile has put Nora in bad shape. She's unconscious in the prison infirmary.
JM gives FF a tour of the house. Emma and Pablo come in. FF doesn’t realize Emma doesn’t know and approaches her in amazement, saying she’s the image of her mother. Miggy takes FF out of the room, and JM tells Emma about the switched babies. She freaks, of course.
Ángela goes after the Reptile in a fury for what she did to Nora. It looks like Angie’s training kicks in and she’s winning, but we don’t see the whole fight. Dammit, I wanted to see Ángela beat her to a bloody pulp!
Esteban shows up with two cops accusing Willy of kidnapping Jessica. Now this is stupid. Willy tells them to search; he doesn’t think she’s there.
D8D is at the Arroyo house. God, he’s everywhere! Emma blurts out that she’s not JM’s sister and that the real Arroyo is Fabiola.
Fabiola is worried about Miggy leaving. She embraces him, saying she’s afraid to be left there. He tells her he’s not leaving. He’s going to be her bodyguard.
Pablo tells Marcos, just a few more days (to kill Jiménez).
Pati visits Amalia, the upper crusty Mom of Emilio's friend, who had snubbed them. Amalia repeats, the answer is no, I thought I was clear. Pati replies, you know, my husband and I are PROUD we came from humble roots. And I guess you've made your position clear. But if you're not going to be one of our friends, my husband, Pablo Esobar, and I, will from now on consider you one of our ENEMIES. She gets into her SUV, accompanied by 3 husky bodyguards, and zips off. Amalia looks shaken.
Jairo talks to his brother Camilo. Camilo says, come on, bring your family to my country house, you'll really like it. In the background, Jairo's wife (Natalia) and family are going “say yes, say yes”. Jairo says he'll think about it.
Chili and Topo ambush two cops, tie them up, take their clothes, guns and papers.
Marino has painted Yesenia's room. She tells him he has a nice heart, but that if he continues to hang around Escobar, his heart will turn black. He thinks about that.
Pati's threat worked! Amalia's kid will now play with Emilio. We see Amalia and her husband with stricken looks as they have given in to Pati's power play.
Boyacá, 1986. Another meeting of the cartel. Pablo and Mariachi (apparently the two leaders) discuss the Marcos Herber problem. Herber is a loose cannon, often high on perico (coke). Pablo says at any moment, Marcos, who always carries a gun, could go nuts and shoot Pablo. The only solution is to kill Herber first. Mariachi doesn't want to go that far.
Chili and Topo, in full police gear, walk right into the cop school. Later, they're looking into a window, when a high ranking officer says what are you guys doing? They fumble a bit, getting all the salutes wrong. Are you on the security team of Colonel Jiménez? Uh, yessir, we sure are. Why aren't you looking at me, Galvéz? Chili replies sorry, sir. I said Galvéz! (Topo's shirt said Galvéz!) Uh, sorry, we've only been on the job for 6 days. I can see that. Now get back to work! He even gives them some package to take to Jimenéz, and tells them he's visiting his brother's farm. (This scene was almost funny if it weren't so tragic).
The boys are back from the jungle, greeted by Ramada, the Cuban connection guy. Pablo complains to Gonzo, he feels they need to neutralize Marcos, but he doesn't want to proceed without Mariachi's approval. Gonzalo says if you kill Jiménez, that should take off the pressure. That's what has Marcos so bent out of shape.
Chili and Topo return to the tied up cops, pump them for info about where the brother's farm is, then kill them.
Cut to Camilo's country ranch. Jairo, Natalia and the two boys arrive, and are greeted warmly. Jairo tells the many guards where to be stationed, while Camilo thinks it's overkill, surely they're safe out here. Away from the family, Jairo shows son Alonzo there's a loaded gun he's leaving on the seat of the jeep, just in case.
Chili and Topo arrive at the town near Camilo's ranch. They need to find out where the ranch itself is located. They get a call from Pablo. Look, you idiots, the job should have been done by now! I thought you were going to disguise yourself as a couple of pollitos (not sure what this means, literally it's chickens, but it could be like traveling salesmen). We're working on it, boss, we had some little delays, but we're on it now. Yeah, well, you'd better be. You've got two days!
Next week, all hell breaks loose! (again)
Thanks, Hombre for your well-done recap!
What a damn shame Topo and Chili found out about Jairo's vacation. They certainly did the dramatic tension well. And, his wife and the boys are so excited about this family visit. The place they have gone seems idyllic. And those two miserable bastards are stalking them.
That was a chilling scene when, without a shred of remorse, Chili and Topo kill two helpless, tied up and in their underwear men.
Wow, Pati has taken some lessons from Enelia, all right. She had the same cold, direct way of speaking when she told that woman she would be their enemy. Plus, I still think Pati is sort of in denial. She seemed to really think it was a class issue that the woman didn't want her son with Emilio. It might have been, of course. But it was more likely that Pati's husband is a ruthless narcotraficante and killer!
Your usual great job, Novelera. Thanks. I think you're right. FF's father probably is El Verdugo. There's got to be a connection between her and D8D's narcotrafficing operation in Colombia. They might have laid on the 'wild child' bit a little too much. All those years in the Colombian jungle full of drug smugglers and she's never seen a plane?
But FF is cute and her romance with Miggy should be amusing. Miggy did tell her that Emma hadn't been told about the baby switch and she did see a picture of Emma so it couldn't have been that amazing to see Emma in person. It was so stupid but typical not to have told Emma about the baby switch before.
Esteban shows up with the police at Willy's house not Jessie's father? Nobody calls to even see if Jessie might be there? That was stupid.
Amazing recap Novelera! I'm just going to say DITTO to Jean's whole comment, because Jean hit on exactly what annoyed me this episode, predictions (that Verdugo is FF's, really Emma's, dad), and the expectation of a fun courtship between Miggy and FF.
ahh,
so Feral Fabiola's Father is (might be) Verdugo,
err, the one she was searching for,
but in fact, is Emma's real father,
I wasn't really getting this,
wow!
thanks Jean and Vivi,
and now D8D knows,
loved the way Willy punched him right over his desk,
maybe someone could do this every epi,
oh yea,
great recap novelera !!!
you are the best!
Thanks for the great recap.
The whole baby switching thing is as stupid as the other story-backgrounds in this novela, but I really enjoy the Miggy-FF scenes. So no matter how difficult is to believe the 'wild child' story :) Actually to have FF, it wasn't necessary to come up with such a weird background...
Thanks, Novelera, very nice recap!
In real life, if a "narco" changes his testimony from a trial 25 years before, it doesn't usually free the person in jail. The prosecutor usually insists the original version was right, was sworn testimony, and the prisoner is lucky to get a new trial. But I'm happy Nora can get out right away (unless she's lost her memory, is paralyzed or blind from the beating the Reptile gave her)!
We now know a sure fire method for romance. Just sign on as a bodyguard (see Angela, Sam, Peralta, now Miggy).
I don't believe anyone has volunteered to recap Rosa Diamante, but there those here who are watching. If you post a comment or question, I'm sure someone who is watching that show will answer or comment.
Thank you, Hombre. This story just gets grimmer and grimmer, doesn't it?
I wonder if Pati is in denial or if she has learned to be just as two-faced as Enelia and Pablo himself ...
I didn't have much sympathy for the snobby mother at first. But when she and her husband watched their child being driven away in the narcomobile, my heart was breaking for them.
Not commenting - just expressing my appreciation for your efforts.
Yep Novelera it was a great recap and I ditto Vivi that you said it all! Now a few weeks ago, D8D made a deal with Fernanda: he would deliver Angela to Fernanda in jail, in exchange for...I can't remember what she was going to do in exchange. Anyone?
Oh BTW, I noticed that when Willie got the bright blue ace bandage taken off his head, there was no sign of injury: no stitches, no band-aid, no shaved spot. Amazing. However, I love Fabian Rios and continue to enjoy the natural comedic touches he brings to this role.
:o)
J in Oregon
hi J in Oregon,
I may have been the one to voice it that way,
but I don't know if they actually made a deal,
it was when D8D brought the Reptile pictures of our too happy cake maker,
showing she was alive and where she was,
Fernanda flipped, and wanted Angela back in prison
and right after that,
Fernanda tried to kill Nora,
choking her as she slept,
(but didn't follow through with it).
Fabiola tells Miggy that she’s not prepared for a bodyguard because she’s a free spirit. Miggy tells her he knows how to deal with wild things like her.
Emma gets completely hysterical, saying JM won’t love her any more. She says Fabiola would be a better sister, not bi-polar. Despite JM’s assurances, she says everything will change.
The miserable creep D8D pumps Génesis for information about Fabiola. She spills the whole story.
Ángela beats up the Reptile, but the guards intervene too quickly, and all we see is a bloody lip. Rats! The Reptile is taken off to the hole.
Camilo and Sam are also at Casa del Castillo. Sam asks Nico for the truth. He admits that Jessica is there but says she came of her own accord.
Miggy interrupts D8D’s interrogation of Génesis and tells him once again how much he hates D8D and wants vengeance. He refused to let D8D talk to FF.
Willy gets my vote as the world’s funniest blind man. He gets huffy when Sam goes with Esteban to speak with Jessica’s father. Camilo tells him there’s a secret surprise he’s helping Sam arrange.
Génesis and Violeta are in Fabiola’s room and try to explain the complicated relationships to her. They tell her they thought a girl from the jungle would have leaves in her hair, and they give out a Tarzan yell!
D8D calls El Verdugo to tell him he knows where Fabiola Ferrara is and that she’s JM’s sister.
Nora is OK. When she agonizes about leaving the Reptile, Ángela tells her the Reptile brought on her own downfall and will have to pay.
JM begs Miggy to care for Fabiola. Miggy says he only hopes the people looking for her don’t find out she’s at Casa Arroyo because then they’d all be in danger. [Too late thanks to Papa Snake.]
After we see another Dish Latino product placement by the girls, they leave FF, who brings out what looks like a fruitcake tin from 1964, and hides it under the bed.
Emma, never the sharpest knife in the drawer, is walking away from her home. The stereotypical black SUV pulls up, a thug calls Emma Fabiola, and they drag her off.
Willy tells Sam no one trusts him any more. He says he’s leaving his home, but runs into the wall instead. Sam throws him on the bed and seduces him.
Nora tells Ángela she wanted to see the Reptile before leaving, but she couldn’t do it because she’s in the punishment cell. She says she can’t bear her daughter’s hate. Ángela tells her the Reptile does care for her. [Wow, I was getting nervous Nora would stay; what a relief she’s leaving.]
Pablo is beside himself. He comes to see Gus saying he can’t find Emma. Meanwhile Emma insists to the thugs that she’s not Fabiola.
Fabiola has a flashback memory. Her mother, played by the actress who plays Emma, is putting her to bed. She’s around 11 years old. Some thugs come in with machine guns. Fabiola’s father is there as well, but we don’t see what happens to him. Fabiola’s mother is killed.
Nora embraces Willy as she comes out of prison. D8D is watching the scene from his limo. He gets out and says he wants to beg Nora’s pardon. Sam tells him not to ruin this moment, and Willy tells him this is a family thing and D8D is no longer part of his family.
Miggy grills FF. She says she knows nothing. She stayed here because of Miggy.
The thugs have figured out they have the wrong woman but say they’re going to kill Emma because she has seen their faces. Later, the Chief Thug in Charge calls JM. [How come new characters are introduced and always know the cell phone number of the existing characters?] JM turns on his speaker so everyone can hear. JM tells them he’ll pay anything. They say they don’t want money; they’ll give him Emma in exchange for Fabiola. They say they’ll call again later. JM confronts Fabiola: “Enough mysteries! Who’s looking for you?” She tells him they’re narcos looking for money and think she knows where it is. But they’ll kill her when they discover she doesn’t know. FF says that, when they call, tell them yes. She’ll give herself up for Emma.
Cecilia calls Miggy and tells him about D8D offering her an apartment for information about Fabiola. Miggy figures out that D8D is behind Emma’s disappearance.
Ángela calls Sam from the prison. “Come! It’s urgent! I got my memory back!”
When the thugs call, FF turns off the speaker so only she knows the meeting place and agrees to go. Miggy tells her he’s not going to let her die. He promised to take care of her. She says: “You don’t know me. What if I’m one of them?”
Emma is blindfolded and has duct tape over her mouth. The miserable SOB D8D is there peering at her.
Sam is with Ángela, but before we hear anything, the alarms sound. Fernanda del Castillo has escaped. [And from the hole to boot! Houdini has nothing on the Reptile.]
Thanks for another great recap, Novelera.
Willy must be very familiar with his cell phone if he can press the answer button (usually not even a button you can feel on a smartphone) without being able to see!! Why don't they even give him a cane? Then at least he wouldn't walk into walls. It was funny when both times that Camilo spoke to Willy, he didn't recognize who it was.
Why doesn't JM tell his otherwise useless guards not to let D8D in the house?
FF has obviously got something important in that tin (it did look like an old fruitcake tin) that she's not telling anyone about.
It seems like it was seing Violeta was what finally triggered Angie to get her memory back.
Thanks to the wonderful recap Novelera. Well, two out of jail (Nora legally; the Reptile illegally), and one to go. But can Angela go free until the Reptile is sentenced? At least Angie is safer in jail without the Reptile there.
I'm glad we're finally getting some back story on FF. Now, what's in the cookie tin, or is it an old film canister?
By splitting the show into half hour segments, I think this show loses a little of its flow and power. But not much.
The Jiménez family is relaxing at Camilo’s ranch.
Chili and Topo are in town, questioning the locals as to where the ranch is.
Marino tells Pablo “the poor girl (Yesenia) is suffering”. Pablo thinks it’s amusing that Marino’s not so tough after all. I think Pablo also instructs Marino to kill Jorge, although I’m not sure. At the very least, he has to keep a close watch on the mole. Later, we see Jorge spying again, pretend to call his mother to throw off Marino, but Marino isn’t fooled a bit.
Marcos meets with Mariachi, says we two should take out Escobar!
Chili and Topo locate the ranch, and scope it out. There are ten guards, and they’re outnumbered. There are also dogs, and when some barking starts, C&P go to regroup. Meanwhile, Jairo apologizes to Natalia for all the bother, and they relax and I think make love. Back at C&P’s hotel, they have an arsenal of weapons. Topo wants to go back tonight and kill the Colonel in his bed, but Chili wants to wait until tomorrow. In the morning, the phone rings, and it’s Pablo. Well?! Pablo asks about the two cops, calling them two avocados, asking if they “matured”. He has to do this, as Pati is sitting right there. Chili says they took care of the two guys, and assures a concerned Pablo that the hit is happening within the next day.
Mariachi goes to Napoles, tells Pablo that Marcos wants to have Mariachi and Marcos kill Pablo, and Pablo wants to kill Marcos, but he’s not going along with either plan. Pablo later asks Ariano (sp?) who is Ramada’s friend, are you and Ramada with me if I go against other members of the cartel? Absolutely, boss, we totally back you.
Peluche is worried about Ramada’s latest plan. No, they’re not taking the drugs to Cuba. They’re putting them in small boats, and taking them straight to Miami! Isn’t this risky? Ramada says drugs are always risky, but not to worry. Later, a coast guard boat pulls up, and Peluche just about freaks. But Ramada hands the coast guard guys a suitcase (presumably full of money), and the coast guard guys say have a nice day! Problem solved.
Natalia wakes up, sees her husband and brother in law having breakfast, but where are the guards? Well, honey it’s Sunday, we gave half of them the day off (oh no!). But then the phone rings. It’s that General, the one who unwittingly gave Chili and Topo the info about Jiménez visiting his brother’s ranch. I think we have a problem here. Two of our men were killed, and two other guys who were impersonating them may have found where you are.
Jairo bolts into action. Everybody inside, we’ve gotta move! We’re leaving! As we see Chili’s long range sight trying to get a fix on his target, the Colonel and family start moving fast. Will they escape again? We’ll find out tonight!!!!!
Thanks, Novelera for a very fun recap of an entertaining episode. This was another one where if you missed it, you really missed it, so much happened. Emma kidnapped. The fruitcake tin. Angela's memory back. FF's backstory on her mother being killed. Fernanda escapes!
We shouldn't be so surprised the Reptile could escape so easily. Both jails and hospitals in this show have very little security. Anyone can come visit at any time, usually without notice, and no guards. When they had that big fire in the jail, inmates escaped. This time the writers don't even bother to show us how Fernanda did it.
But since we're not in final weeks or anything like that, we can assume the Reptile won't be killed, and may end up back in jail again at some point (or in the hospital for something). And we still haven't met Rodrigo or Verdugo (I think Verdugo's coming soon). The fun continues!
El Rostro de la Venganza: lunes
This is still too early in its run to miss an episode or three on--apparently Friday's episode ended with Sonia running into D-Mart and Antonia while they're out having dinner, so this episode opens with Antonia frantically trying the "Martin isn't your son, he's just this guy" defense. Sonia basically brushes it off, and D-Mart doesn't really help matters by declaring to Sonia that "Your son is dead"--that is, in the melodramatic go-to-hell way reserved for all deeply hurt adults on TV when talking to their parents.
Sonia, for her part, responds to that by mostly referring to him in the third person throughout the episode while explaining how she abandoned him to his fate in prison as a child, which in large measure was due to backlash from the shooting and how it affected Juan and the rest of her family (in that order--Juan apparently played the "God will forgive us if we forget Diego" card, which just continues his streak as a loving father). This inevitably doesn't go over that well with D-Mart, though it also bleeds over into him putting Juan on blast for abusing him as a child--and that in turn leads to an interesting question he asks of Sonia that she doesn't answer: "Juan isn't my father, is he?"
Sonia insists that she has forgiven him for the shooting, partially because she blamed herself over the years for somehow not doing something right as a parent and leading him to it, and that she will fight to earn his forgiveness. D-Mart basically goes "Good luck with that--need I remind you that your son is dead?" and kicks her out of his and Antonia's hotel room. This naturally leads to Antonia calming him down by screwing his brains out. The following morning a calmer D-Mart declares that he can choose his (Martin's) new personality, which apparently is going to be a more Ezequiel (not "Mr. Alvarado")-friendly one...much to Antonia's worry.
Back in NYC, the late Marcela's mother Sofia meets with Ezequiel in his office. Sofia is all bent out of shape over Marcela's death and--boom!--not only how she lied at D-Mart's trial, but how Sofia and Ezequiel and "the parents" apparently all cooperated somehow to get D-Mart nailed and jailed as the Monster Child. Ezequiel, naturally, is all "We did the right thing, and you were paid handsomely for your and Marcela's cooperation." (It gets a little unintentionally creepy here when Sofia mentions that Marcela as a child had always wanted to be an actress...so her career really started with this? Ew.)
Sofia, naturally, has the required pang of remorse over what they did and considers going public with it for about two minutes before Ezequiel inevitably blackmails her into continuing her silence (Sofia is apparently an illegal alien--somehow, that figures on this show). He then immediately soothes her angst with a bribe. What is he, a Cardassian?
The inevitable catch is that Omar overhears a fair chunk of their conversation, and immediately runs off to Veronica's apartment to tell her about it. Veronica's also torn up over Marcela's lie, since it basically started her crusade against Diego Mercader, and hearing confirmation about the lie at trial makes her want to dig into the whole story all over again. Luciano, who naturally is hanging out at Veronica's after boinking her, tells Omar to "stay out of affairs that aren't your business" if he wants to keep his position as number-one son with their father and goes off to be evil by himself in the shower.
Random kid moment: Juanito accidentally mentions to Omar and Diana that D-Mart gave him a ride in Ezequiel's (I'm guessing) limo, which apparently earned him some street cred with his friends. Diana's cautiously okay with Juanito being around D-Mart, since she thinks he's a good guy; daddy Omar basically goes "Stranger danger!" since D-Mart had lied about visiting gravesites last week and insists he stay away from him, which Juan walks in on. This might be the only scene I've seen thus far where I didn't want to punch Juan in the face.
Thanks so much for the recap.
It was a very entertaining episode. One of the bests so far.
Fabiola said “You don’t know me. What if I’m one of them?” I guess this is a key sentence!
Another rip-roaring episdode!
As we saw at the end of last night’s episode, Angie can’t tell Sam what she remembered because of the alarm at the prison triggered by the Reptile's escape.
D8D discusses the plan with the kidnappers (K1 and K2 until they bite the dust later in the episode). D8D tells K1 that FF will doubtless come to the exchange site with her bodyguards. He warns them about Miggy and tells them to kill him on sight. He says that he is supervising this operation personally for Verdugo.
Miggy is sure that FF couldn’t be a narcotrafficer because she’s just too cute – no it was something else almost as silly. She tells Miggy that the bad guys are looking for a treasure map that they think her father gave her. She tells Miggy that she doesn’t have it but we in viewerville are pretty sure that is what is in the old fruitcake tin cleverly hidden under her bed in JM’s house. Peralta insists on going with FF and Miggy to the exchange site.
Camilo tells Willy that Lorena has left town. [Didn’t he wonder why she hadn’t been around?]
Sam texts Camilo that the Reptile has escaped from prison and he tells Willy. Sam tells Gustavo that Angie has her memory back.
JM says that he feels like he has to choose between Emma and FF.
Miggy, FF and Peralta sneak out the back door of the house to go to the exchange site on their own.
K1 starts to fondle Emma. She tells him that she’s been through all this before when she was 12 and a friend of her father’s abused her.
Angie tells JM that she is starting to remember.
At the exchange site, Miggy negotiates with K1 and K2 who don’t follow D8D’s instructions to kill Miggy. Meanwhile, the police sharpshooters are sneaking in to the site. FF jumps out of the car, holds a gun to her head and says that unless Emma is released, she will kill herself and they will never find the treasure. K1 appears to release Emma but she is on a leash. The whole thing goes south and in spite of a hail of bullets, the only person hit is Peralta who jumps out of the car to help Emma. FF gets taken by the kidnappers.
Angie tells JM that she remembers her childhood, her kidnapping and her father. JM has to tell her that her mother is dead.
Willy tells Nora that he afraid he can’t be the man for Sam or a father to Nic if he is blind. He can’t go with Sam to places and he can’t help Nic with his homework (he couldn’t do that when he could see). Nic comes in during this speech and tells Willy that Esteban can help him with his homework but he can only discuss things like his love life with Willy and he that he has Willy as his father.
There is some kind of Plan B for the FF situation.
While waiting for the ambulance, Peralta asks Emma to marry him. At the hospital, Peralta is, what else, muy grave, lost a lot of blood, organs compromised, etc. etc. Emma has hysterics on JM about how much she needs Peralta.
Sam finally tells Willy what she has been doing with Camilo – training him to impersonate the Rat with the narcotrafficers.
FF tells K1 and K2 that she will show them where the money/gold is. [This must be one big treasure if the narco’s are still trying to find it so many years after FF’s father was kidnapped.]
Camilo is ready to impersonate the Rat and he changes his appearance to look like Luis.
Lorena calls Willy and Camilo is listening outside the door.
D8D accuses Ofelia of helping the Reptile escape from prison. She denies it. [Ofelia is looking a little less frumpy lately.]
[During the episode several people ask the police how the Reptile escaped and Duval always answers that he doesn’t know yet. So I don’t think the writers are going to bother to come up with an expalanation.]
Since Angie is perfectly safe from the Reptile in prison, she can’t stay there. JM gets the ok for Angie to be let out on bail and he tells her that she will leave prison the next day. She is happy.
FF leads K1 and K2 to a place where she says that the treasure is. This is Plan B because Miggy and the police are there. There’s a brief standoff but K1 and K2 are killed in another shootout. FF is ok.
Emma is keeping vigil at Peralta’s bedside. He opens his eyes and tells her that he loves her.
In spite of what she told D8D, Ofelia does know where the Reptile is. The Reptile is, surprise, surpise, planning vengeance against JM and Angie.
FF is a little shaken up after the shootout. Miggy tells her that he will always be with her and they kiss.
Pablo is mad at Mariachi. Why aren’t you supporting me? Sorry, says Mariachi, but I’m not going against you or against Marcos Herber. And if you happen to kill Herber on your own, you’ll have to deal with me! Later, in the money room, as Gonzo and Pablo stack thousands of piles of bills, Gonzo tells Pablo that partners are more than that - they’re friends. This makes Pablo think a bit.
Jairo is getting the family into the cars. We’re leaving, now! They rush into his red car, with him driving. The two boys are in the back, Alonzo still has that gun wrapped in a cloth. We see Chili and Topo aim, but the cars leave too fast, and they get into their car to pursue.
Back at Nápoles, Jorge and Marino continue to be suspicious of each other. Jorge tells Marino, if you have something to say, say it to my face.
As Jairo speeds along in his red car, escorted by a white police car, Chili and Topo come up with their green car. Chili leans out, aims the bazooka, and fires, blowing up the police car! He then zooms up along side of Jairo, and Topo shoots Jairo several times, before anyone can react. Jairo stops the car, gets out, bleeding, and stands in the middle of the road, yelling, c’mon you cowards! Kill me now! He has a pistol, but he doesn’t even aim it. In the car, Alonzo feels his pistol, but he’s frozen with fear. Topo and Chili calmly approach on foot, and as Jairo continues to yell at them to kill him, THEY DO. They speed off, leaving the distraught family huddled over the body of one of the bravest men who ever lived.
Before all this happened, Pablo has gone to visit Marcos, and says, let’s have a truce. You’re not just an associate, you’re a friend. We’ll have everything resolved in under two weeks, and then we’ll celebrate! Marcos is down with that plan.
Peluche is back from the Miami connection, tells Pablo it’s all so easy now. We’ve got the coast guard paid off, the money’s just flowing in! Life is good.
Not for the Jiménez family. The general apologizes to Natalia. He explains about the two guys who impersonated soldiers and killed them. He swears, we’ll get these guys. Later, he’s working with a police sketch artist to identify the two.
By now, word has gotten back to Nápoles that Jiménez is dead, and Jorge is feeling sick. He realizes he was duped. Pablo tells Marino, take out that sapo, but don’t let Pati know what’s going on. Tomorrow is the big party, that’ll provide a lot of commotion to cover your actions. Pablo yells at Jorge, stop sitting around. Help your pal (Marino) polish up those vehicles over there! :)
Guillermo Cano is standing, distraught, usual cigarette in hand. He writes a scathing editorial, blaming the Extraditables for the killing of Jairo Jiménez.
At the Montoa ranch, Pedro, Julio and the other brother aren’t happy about this. They want to take out this crazy journalist, who keeps blaming cartel members for every little thing, without a shred of proof! Yeah, right. They’re off for the party at Pablo’s.
Marcos, high and happy, is going, too. Also, Ramada, Ariano and two of their friends are on the way. This is going to be some party! Somehow, though, Jorge isn’t excited, and is packing his things. He asks Gonzalo for two weeks off to care for his sick mother. Sorry, bud, you ain’t going nowhere!!!
Tonight, it’s my party and I’ll die if I want to.
thanks so much Hombre !!!
so sad about Jairo,
I suppose part of the reason he got out of the car to confront his assassins,
was to get his family out of harms way,
women and children so far, seem to have a certain immunity to the killing,
even though they saw the killers.
great directing in this one,
putting so much tension and impending doom into such simple short scenes.
Another super fun recap of a wild episode. Thanks, Jean!
When Willy was talking on the phone, among other things, I think Camilo heard 1) that Willy only loves Sam, and 2) Lorena said it was HER baby? to which Willy replied no. I think the actress playing Lorena must be on vacation at this point.
Cecelia always wears the exact same outfit. I wouldn't think there's a uniform for secretarys, but what do I know? I like it, though.
Emma's confession about her abuse didn't exactly stop K1. But that little leash didn't do too much either. I liked when Emma said to Peralta open your eyes, and he did.
How many purple shirts does Willy own?
Great kiss at the end with Miggy and FF!
Fabulous recap Jean. The episodes this week have been exciting after being a bit snoozy for a while.
Hombre- I also didn't get the point of Emma sniveling to the thug about being sexually abused when she was a child, since it didn't seem to deter him. Perhaps it was to make the audience more sympathetic towards her since she is as shrill as nails on a chalkboard, and pretty darn useless. In all this time I would have hoped Peralta, Angie or Sam would have given her some self defense lessons. But no. All she can do is shriek and cry like a ninny. Can you tell she was getting on my nerves last night?
How convenient that as soon as the Reptile gets free, leaving Angela SAFE in prison, Angela all of a sudden gets her freedom. Ha! The Reptile's on the loose. Let the games begin.
thanks so much Jean !!!
there is always way too much going on for a simple recap,
I was kind of hoping Emma would hang out with the bad guys a little longer,
she spends too way too much time draining the good guys around her,
"she is as shrill as nails on a chalkboard"
exactly Vivi!
and when things calm down, she manages to do something else that's stupid,
frustrating.
and Peralta going to the kidnapping with no body armor or a weapon, hmm, never a good sign.
well I guess D8D, if he was personally in charge, blew the kidnapping,
maybe Verdugo will be pissed,
I can't even imagine Bernardo's fate yet to come.
which reminds me about the office scenes,
where before the office was run by JM, with Willy and Fernanda on board after the merger,
and Cecilia at the desk,
and Bernardo never around except to menace,
now it's just Bernardo, with Cecilia as his personal assistant,
poor, poor Cecilia.
and wow, Luis is back,
scared me to see him again,
but with the Camilo twist, whew,
Fabián Ríos as a blind guy (Willy) is one of the best I've ever seen, especially without the bandages or the glasses, his bright and twinkling eyes never track anything in the room.
and yes, get this guy a cane.
I thought the same thing Jean,
now that the Reptile is loose,
instead of getting Angela out,
they should put the whole Arroyo family in jail.
nice to see Gus continuing to be the nice guy,
always love Nora's scenes!
Brenda Asnicar (Fabiola) is fascinating to watch, great actress, and pairs well with Gabriel Porras (Miguel),
I'm really enchanted with their scenes!
just been lurking lately, but always appreciate the recaps and comments.
'have to say that Fabiola looks like a 15year-old to me. very cute/pretty, but imho not suitable for Miggy.
Thanks once again, Hombre. I agree with Deb that Jairo got out of the car in the hope that the killers would fire only at him and spare his family. Otherwise, they would have kept firing directly into the family vehicle without regard to "collateral damage".
It's hard to feel sympathy for the "sapo", Jorge, knowing he is also a murderer.
So Pablo and Herber can make nice again now that Jairo is dead. Ugh.
Great job on the recap, Jean. Thanks!
You and I were on the same page about how much gold must be buried somewhere if they were still looking for it.
Paired with last night's episode of Pablo Escobar - also a Colombian narco - that they showed in an entire room lined with packages of dollar bills, it seems absurd that narcos would need to go to so much trouble and risk being exposed to get FF (really Emma's) father's buried treasure. Wait, I forgot, this is telenovelaland!
There was one other thing I heard that was very odd and that was not explained. D8D asked K1 about El Perro and was told he or it is doing well. I was not sure if that was a nickname for a person (more likely) or a real dog. Maybe they're going all the way ridiculous and they're planning on replacing Arturo with a spy double!
Hombre, I agree, that was some hot kiss between Miggy and Fabiola at the end. I liked what they said, as well. "You'll always be there to protect me? Yes, always. And will you protect me from you? About that I don't know." And then the kiss.
Good point, Deb. Why the heck didn't the good guys wear bulletproof vests when they went to that exchange meeting?
What a copout! Angie doesn't remember everything, just her childhood!
Hombre, yes! Willy's conversation with Lorena made me nervous. I'm sure it will all be hunky-dory in the end. But there's always been the chance that Lorena fertilized her own egg (would surely have needed help to extract it - but maybe telenovela magic could make her do it alone). In any case, she may SAY she did that even if it is Sam and Willy's baby. She's the quintessential loose cannon.
Thanks for another great recap.
Yes, great kiss at the end with Miggy and FF! All their scenes are great.
Is Camilo going to die? Hopefully not. I like him in the comic scenes. They can kill Jefe or Ofelia instead.
Excellent recap, Hombre! "It's my party and I'll die if I want to." Guess you have to be a "seasoned" person to get that joke. Needless to say, I am.
I also thought Jairo moved forward to let them kill him to protect his family. And I thought I saw a look of respect cross Chili's face.
Andrés Parra is doing an excellent acting job in this. I have been wondering, however, if the real Escobar was as smart as they are portraying him. Or just vicious.
What I heard (and I didn't put it in the recap because it didn't move the plot forward) was D8D say to K1 something like, "How is El Perro? We paid a lot of money to get him out of the Mexican jail." And K1 said something like, "He's very loyal" "He'll be fine." I thought they were referring to K2 but since he was killed 20 minutes later, maybe they were referring to someone else.
Thanks for the recap!
It has been a while since at least random people have died, so I suppose this means that the action has picked up again.
Did Emma really have to be sexually harassed/molested again? I loathed that scene and have had enough of all the occasional sexual assaults.
I don’t have a problem with Emma. Of course she’s going to scream when she’s in a life threatening situation and a guy holding her hostage starts molesting her, or when she sees the love of her life possibly shot dead. Besides, she isn’t supposed to be kick ass like other female characters, who somehow end up weak anyway (but they’re still supposedly strong). She might not be physically strong or have the bodyguard skills, but I still think that she has a strong character considering what has happened to her and how she's dealt with it. (And I like her assertiveness. :) )
However, I agree that some self-defence classes could have helped. If Camilo can do it, so can Emma.
I like Fabiola, who has a lot of guts and spunk and the right amount of eccentricity to be amusing and not annoying. Personality-wise I think she’s a great match for Miggy. (Unfortunately I can’t get over the fact that she looks so young.) Of course she hasn’t been around long enough to have her character sacrificed for the sake of drama and plot.
I thought the Miggy & FF kiss happened too soon. It wasn’t long ago when he was thinking of her as a little girl, which makes it even creepier.
It’s a pity that Pablo’s only job was to get shot for the sake of a dramatic scene. Couldn’t he have at least… well, done something else? He never gets to do anything cool. But I did like the proposal and the scenes at the hospital.
I hoped the writers wouldn’t go there, but it does seem like Lorena is going to cause some predictable baby drama. I assume that she's confused and thinks the baby is hers and not that she actually fertilised her own egg, because that would be just too hard to buy (GAH to telenovela magic) also considering her character, because despite going off the rails, she still has been portrayed as a good person, who really wanted Sam and Willy to have a kid.
NovelaObserver, I also hope that Camilo will survive (and help bring down the narcos). Yeah, El Jefe and Ofe need to go, but only after (all) their doings have been revealed. I have a feeling that Ofelia will be sticking around Fernanda for a while to be her pathetic lackey, but I'm not sure what Jefe´s purpose is at the moment.
In real life, the actor playing Miggy is 44, the actress playing FF is 21. So yes, it's a little creepy. But in this show, Miggy is supposed to be in his late 20's, FF in her early 20's (same age as Emma, right?). So we can maybe forget reality (I have), and just enjoy the characters as they're supposed to be.
Rosa Diamante
Am I the only one that doesn't like the Galan in this TN? And wish it were Junior that she ends up with? I actually feel bad for Barbara. It is hard to watch Rosa and Jose Ignacio. I just can't root for them as a couple.
As much as I love Miggy and think the scenes with him and FF are fun/funny, the age diffence still creeps me out a bit. It think it's because they dress FF in such a little girl/Lolita way. Those little shorts she was wearing last night were ridiculous! Yes, she and Emma are the exact same age as they were born on the same day. Miggy, however, is supposed to be in his 30s I believe. Sam and Angie are in their late 20s, early 30s, and Miguel Sr. had the relationship with Miggy's mom years before his relationships with the girls' mothers.
I don’t think Miggy’s age has been stated or hinted at, but he’s not in his late twenties. Sam and Angie are about 30 and he’s older. (I’ve assumed that he’s in his mid-thirties, although late thirties would be more believable) For me age difference, whether it’s between the actors or the characters, is no issue on its own, especially if the characters fit/work together. However, when I see Fabiola and Miggy together I see a young girl and an experienced older man, who jumped too quickly from referring to her as a child to being attracted to her. THAT is creepy. Perhaps it would have worked better with a longer build-up. It could still work. I liked their interactions before the (inevitable) romantic element was introduced.
I think Miggy must be in his early 30s, but the problem is not his age! The problem is that Fabiola looks MUCH younger than her real age. She looks 15 or even 13! So the relationship seems like pedophilia! If you accept that she is +20, then it will be OK.
Miggy asks FF to forgive him for kissing her. He says that it was crazy. FF doesn’t understand what the problem is. Miggy replies that he told FF that he promised to take care of her and now it is likely that she will have to take care of him.
Willy tells Nora that Lorena spoke about the baby as if it were hers. He is angry that he is blind and can’t go and check things out with her.
The Reptile is reunited with Lucy. She appears to be living in a warehouse with a speedboat in it. Optimistic Ofélia says that she will help the Reptile get out of the country. She can go work with her son, Rodrigo. Nope. The Reptile wants vengeance on you know who and she expects Ofélia to help her. Ofélia can’t refuse the Reptile anything.
Gustavo is happy to find out that Angie has only remembered her childhood and not her relationship with JM. Angie tells him that she is afraid about her life outside prison. Gustavo tells her that only she can control her life.
Camilo tells Nora to tell Sam to go to Mexico ASAP. He has concerns about Lorena.
FF is running around her room in a towel searching for the fruit cake tin. Miggy strolls in with it in his hand and asks if this is what she is looking for. She asks why he didn’t tell her that he had it. He asks why she lied about having a treasure map. She replies that she doesn’t want the treasure. It is her insurance policy. Miggy says that he is her insurance policy now.
I was wrong. We do see how the Reptile escaped from prison. Ofélia hired people to tunnel into the punishment cell. The tunnel ended a grate in the road where a truck was conveniently waiting for her. The truck driver gives the Reptile a bag with a gun and when he has taken her to a safe place, she kills him. Okaaay. Nora had said that the Reptile was refusing to see Ofélia in prison so how did they plan this elaborate escape? Best not to ask questions, just tighten your beanie and move on.
The Reptile tells Ofélia that she likes her and says that Ofélia should have been her mother, not her aunt.
Willy gets a terrible headache.
Miggy brings FF a breakfast tray and finds her sleeping on the floor. She attacks him when he wakes her up and spills everything on the tray onto Miggy.
Angie has to choose whom to go home with from prison – JM or Gustavo. She chooses JM because of the children but says that she wants to work at Gustavo’s bakery. Gustavo gives Angie a bracelet with a microchip in it to be able to locate her.
Peralta is out of instensive care.
Willy goes to the hospital about his headache.
In a cute scene where Angie comes home, little JC is holding on to Miggy’s ear. JM tells Angie that this is her house and her family. She is introduced to FF.
The Reptile tells Ofélia that once she kills JM and Angie, they can go somewhere and start a new life together.
Miggy tells FF that in his job as her bodyguard, he has to keep a certain distance and is not sure that he can. [Why should he be different than any of the other bodyguards who fell in love with their clients?]
Willy is ok. His headache is not related to his blindness.
D8D tells Ofélia that she has to either get the Reptile out of the country or turn her in otherwise she will be killed.
A whole bunch of cute women come to see Willy for more of their little jealousy games.
Génesis and Violeta are the little matchmakers. They want Miggy to get together with FF and scheme to leave JM alone with Angie in the bedroom saying that they have a lot of homework to do.
Ofélia comes to see JM and says that she knows where the Reptile is. She would rather see the Reptile in jail than dead. JM says that he will go to the police station with her.
The Reptile tells herself that she is ugly again and this time it is worse because she knows what it was like to be beautiful and desired. She says that they marked her and she will mark them for life.
Cecilia comes to see Miggy. She kisses him in front of FF but the real reason she came was to tell him that she overheard something that makes her believe that Ofélia knows where the Reptile is.
Nora tells Angie to listen to her heart to make her choice between JM and Gustavo. She is listening when a police car shows up to take Angie to make a statement. Of course, we know they aren’t real policemen.
Miggy calls the police station about why Angie was taken to police headquarters. Gustavo figures out that they weren’t the real police. They track Angie’s location by her microchip'd bracelet.
D8D seems to have redeemed himself with Nic by giving him a house because they appear to be buddies. Anyway, D8D not so subtly suggests to Willy that Sam deserves better than a blind guy. What a jerk!
Angie is tied up but can’t see her captor who is fiddling with a gun.
I think that FF tells Miggy that she has never been with a man.
I agree with the other poster, I dislike the match up - no chemistry, nothing, it's a turnoff, so I turned it off. Too bad.
great recap Jean !!!
but,
I think you may have missed the ending,
we do see Angel's captor,
and it is the Reptile, who is setting up a video camera,
next she gets her gun,
and aims it at Angela,
she is going to shoot Angela and record it all on film, no doubt about it,
a shot rings out,
and in the distance it is Gus, he has shot the Reptile,
she drops to the floor...
Guillermo’s family is celebrating granddaughter Ángela’s birthday. The festivities cool a bit, however, when she points out the headline in the newspaper, about that Colonel being killed.
General Ulloa and the Major (the guy I thought who was a general, who unwittingly gave C&T the info about Jairo) argue a bit over whether they should just let things die down (the General), or aggressively pursue the killers (the Major).
Pati to Pablo: “Is it moral to kill policemen?” Pablo is outraged, as usual. Oh, fine, says Pati. I’m just some stupid dummy wife, right? I’m just supposed to be quiet and content, right?
Jorge jumps the fence to escape from the party, but runs into some late arrivers, who “help” him back to the celebration. Marcos Herber, stoned as usual, yells, Let’s get this party started!, and shoots his gun into the air, as many of the guests gasp.
Chili’s green car is found, together with various maps and evidence. Back at the party, Pablo says, fortunately, Chili and Topo are pros, they left no traces. Wrong.
Guillermo’s wife wants him to stop editorializing. Without proof, they could sue you. Of course, that’s not her real concern.
Pati asks Pablo, who’s keeping charge of the whores you invited? Marcos pipes up, don’t worry M’am, they’re all prime cuts!!!
The army finds those two murdered cops, and a neighbor saw C&T. He looks at the police sketches. Yes, that’s them.
Ranchera music is giving the guests a great time. Chili has 2 girls, Topo is more hesitant. Jorge is talking to a girl. Marino says let’s take a walk, bud. Jorge doesn’t want to, and his girl tells Marino to butt out.
Guillermo’s son (also a chain smoker, I think his name is Juan) asks his Dad, what’s going on? You’re stopping writing political editorials. Well, son, I just decided to write about something else today. But when Juan leaves, Guillermo gets up his courage again, and writes, “Is our country at the mercy of the Cartel?” Wow.
Pati doesn’t like the prostitutes. Pablo tells her it’s just one day, tomorrow they’ll be out of here. You know you’re my princess. Pati says she feels like a servant, all the “ladies”keep asking her to bring them drinks. Oh, calm down says Pablo. No! Says Enelia. You listen to me. I’m tired of this same line you’re giving us. You’re making a big mistake. You’re waging a war with the government, and that won’t work. You’re infuriating them. I understand, you’re powerful, but NOBODY, even you with all your money and power, can win a war with the government. Pati pipes up, you’re actually celebrating a murder! Oh, not the same thing, that’s pure speculation, stop with the dumb accusations, says Pablo, at which point Enelia SLAPS him! That’s the LAST TIME you talk to me and Pati like that!!!
I’m going to a football game tonight, so I probably won’t have a recap until Saturday, but I’ll include both episodes. Expect more outrageous events!
Thanks, Deb. For some reason, I didn't write down the ending and then I couldn't remember what was in the previews and what was in the episode. I don't think Angie could see the Reptile because wasn't she asking who was holding her?
I suspect that the shooting of the Reptile was a fantasy of Angie's but we'll see tonight.
Great recap, Jean, and thanks, Deb for the end part!
Yes, Fernanda's escape required a LOT of beanie tightening.
Ofelia said she was going to the police to turn in the Reptile, but all she told the cops was that the Reptile had such a hard life, it wasn't all her fault. How about where she IS?
Good thing Gustavo put that bracelet on Angela. I doubt the Reptile is dead, though.
Miggy looks a little dorky in his bodyguard suit.
Yes, FF has never been with a man. This probably increases Miggy's interest in her.
JM wasn't happy that Angela will work at that bakery. And now that Gustavo saved her, he's going to be more upset. I still think he's a big baby, and Angela should go with Gustavo, but I know it's unlikely.
The scene with Willy and all his "admirers" was funny. Actually, just about every scene with Willy is funny. It's amazing how different the actor is from some of the villains he played in the past (such as Montecristo in El Fantasma de Elena).
This show has been going on so long, Violeta looks way older than she did at the start of the show.
great observations Hombre !!!
you're good!
did Miggy actually look inside Fabiola's tin,
and it's just the map?
(maybe a finger painting on an animal skin)
and didn't he explain his actions as "plan C",
if the other kidnapping plans didn't work out,
yea, yea, Ofelia,
I enjoyed the scene where Fernanda, holding Lucy,
said she wished that Ofelia was her mother,
and Ofelia looked like she would purrrr...
this actress (Tatiana Capote) who plays Ofelia, is interesting to watch,
I guess she is a veteran actress, former beauty queen, and very good at what she does.
btw, the warehouse reminds me of the airplane hangar earlier,
which explains why Ofelia has access to a place like this.
Anon Wed Aug 22, 09:18:00 PM EDT/ Nellie - I've said since the start that Junior would've been better galan than JI. but, the actress playing Rosa is lovely, that at this point, I can still bear to watch; maybe until that merry go round starts going round and round and round as in most novelas.
Great job, Hombre. Thanks.
"Guillermo’s son (also a chain smoker, ..."
These people are all fatalists -- and with good reason. I doubt anyone expects to live long enough to worry about the long-term health effects of smoking.
I thought Herber cracked that the girls were all his cousins (primas). But I may have misheard that.
It's always interesting that the limits Enelia tries to put on Pablo are always based on very practical, tactical considerations. It isn't wrong to kill someone like Jairo, it's just stupid and eventually your stupidity will come back to bite you.
In Enelia's twisted moral universe, the ONLY thing that is simply WRONG is talking back to your mother.
Thanks for the great recap, Jean.
Miggy and Fabiola's age difference doesn't bother me in the least. It's not like Miggy is decrepit. And, I suspect that when some of Fabiola's Jungle Girl aspect wears off, she'll appear more appropriate as a partner for him. I noticed they also have their own romantic theme song now.
Crap, when is Willie going to stop falling into D8D's traps. One or two days after telling Ofelia he deserved Willie's love, he is trying to convince him he's not man enough now for Samantha.
I'm not complaining about the length of this novela. I like it. There's lots of plot twists. The actors are good. When I contrast it with, say, El Rostro de la Venganza, it's waaaaay better.
It WAS cute the way Juan Cruz held on to Miggy's ear the same way he did in earlier scenes with JM. I wish they'd show him once in a while without a binky in his mouth, but oh well.
Why in the world did the Reptile have to kill that obviously paid off truck driver? I guess because she can.
The Reptile says "they" marked her. No, Fernanda, you were marked as well-deserved payback by a woman who was completely disfigured by a fire you arranged and paid for to burn up your rival.
Thanks for the excellent recap, Hombre. I agree with what you said before about making the episodes only a half hour somehow takes away some of the momentum of the story. The episodes were riveting when they were longer.
I wonder how long it will be before the worm turns a bit on Escobar. At this point there is a complete sense of hopelessness. No one escapes him. I know Jorge isn't a prince, but I wanted him to get away.
Yes, Herber said that the girls were his primas while laughing right in Pati's face.
I've got my fingers and toes crossed that they catch Chili and Topo. Of course, they'll never say Escobar told them to kill Jairo, but still.
Thanks, all. I'm with you, Novelera. I'm not in any hurry for this novela to end. It keeps moving, building up tension and then letting it go instead of just having the bad guys get it all their way until the last few episodes. I like a lot of the characters, too.
I also have no problem with FF's and Miggy's ages. FF is the same age as Emma. As we have mentioned before, I think they are trying to make FF somewhat of a wild child the way Marisela was first portrayed in Dona Barbara. To me, she comes off as a flirt with a knife. I'm sure that her clothes will get more sophisticated as well.
exactly Jean !
I hadn't put my finger on it till you mentioned it,
they Are letting the Good Guys win!
it hasn't been easy, and it's not like there aren't thousands of more Bad Guys waiting in the wings,
but yes, they are winning!
how refreshing!
I too can see the age differences between FF and Miggy,
but so can Miggy,
and I'm really interested in seeing how this works out,
been wondering why Miggy hasn't asked her on a date,
maybe to the Zoo, that's always an easy first date, isn't it,
of course when Cecilia steps on to the scene,
and walks up to Miggy,
I drop everything,
I just gotta see what happens,
btw, there are 11 behind-the-scenes pics posted at TW in this thread and the accompanying replies,
http://foro.telenovela-world.com/n4/read-t.php?f=1035&i=3115&t=3115#reply_3115
oh the children are adorable! love whenever JC is on the scene, and touching JM or M's ears. I also just remembered the scene where Genesis and D8D were talking about the 'jungle lady' ... that was way too cute.
I never thought I'd like that actor playing Camilo, but he is now endearing. Pablo Azar is also an asset to this tn.
Thanks, NovelaMaven and Novelera for the correction about what Marcos Herber said (primas). I'm struggling with his accent.
As for good things happening (that is, bad things to Escobar, good for the world), it's 1986 in the show, and we still have quite a few years left. I don't want to read his biography, because I like being surprised. But he sort of has to succeed for a while longer (since he apparently did). The whole thing is fascinating to me, and even though I'm sure most of the little detailed things are made up or dramatized (such as Enelia's speeches), they're great entertainment.
Thanks for the recap!!
I too am in no hurry for this telenovela to end. I agree that a lot happens and at a great pace as well. Besides, I’m still waiting for Rodrigo. :)
For a moment I wondered why Nico was hanging out with all those women. He seemed very comfortable around them as well. (Of course he would be. ;) )
Why on earth was Nico being so buddy-buddy with Bernie? I guess since he’s forgiven El Jefe, he can forgive D8D as well, but haven’t Sam and Willy made it clear to him that the guy is evil? (They don’t have to tell him everything, but the kid can’t be kept in the dark, especially since D8D loves to manipulate, lie and ruin people’s lives for his own amusement.)
I like that the kid playing JC continues to tug at people’s ears. :)
The scene at the end with Angie and (supposedly) Fernanda was weird. The camera wouldn’t focus on Fernanda’s face and why would she want to record everything? (Well, I guess we’ll find out soon. :) )
On Fabiola: I agree with Vivi and NovelaObserver. The clothes and the actress’s youthful looks don’t help. The actual age difference isn’t the issue here.
Anon, Nellie and Shallowgal, I too am having a little difficulty seeing where the Junior, Jose Ignacio, Barbara, Eva quadrangle is going. Jose Ignacio was such a cad at the beginning, it is hard to believe his sincerity now. I like both the actors but agree the Eva characte has more chemistry with Junior. Something else probably needs to be revealed to forward the story, which might make the Eva/Jose Ignacio paring more believeable. I suspect Rosaura is starting to like Eva. I am sticking with it for now, when I don't fall asleep first.
SFChicaBonita
CORAZÓN VALIENTE - jueves - part 1
Lots of surprises tonight and we meet Rodrigo!!
Sam unties Angie telling her that the Reptile is dead but she’s doubly wrong: it’s not the Reptile and she’s not dead. It’s Ofélia disguised as the Reptile and apparently willing to kill Angie because of her devotion to the Reptile.
Meanwhile F has employed the same fake cop trick to capture JM.
Miggy has trouble believing FF is a virgin. FF tells him that she always believed that one day a Prince Charming would rescue her like the stories her mother told her and then Miggy arrived.
Sam left Nora a not asking her to take care of Willy and D8D reads it to Willy.
JM tells the Reptile that they can never be together. The Reptile replies that maybe they can’t be together in this world but they can be together in eternity. The Reptile displays how crazy she is and tells JM that Angie is dead.
In the hospital, Ofélia won’t betray the Reptile.
Miggy tells FF that he doesn’t resemble Prince Charming and FF replies that is no problem since she doesn’t resemble a princess.
Nora comes back to the apartment and chases D8D out. Before leaving, he says that he only advised Willy to accept his limitations. When D8D is gone, Willy says that he believes his father is right.
Then Willy asks Nic what he thinks about him. Nic replies that Willy sometimes forgets that he is blind and that upsets Sam. He goes on to say that even though Nora is now taking care of him, Sam hardly ever goes to work. Hasn’t Willy noticed that she spends all day with him? Willy thanks Nic for his sincerity. [Sometimes telling the truth is overrated.]
Gustavo tells Miggy that he knows were the Reptile is holding JM. [How does he know?]
The Reptile tells JM that he would have loved her if Angie hadn’t reappeared. She says that she won’t accept losing JM. Then the Reptile gets a call from her lawyer that Ofelia is wounded and in custody and the police are on the way. The police arrive. There is a shootout in which JM is slightly wounded and the Reptile, of course, escapes.
Sam comes home to have Nora and Nic tell him that somehow Willy has left the apartment and they give her a note he left. [How did he write a note?] It says that he will stay on his own until his surgery so as not to be a burden. Nora blames D8D but Nic looks guilty as he should.
Willy and Arturo are at Estéban’s place. Willy correctly surmised that Estéban will be willing to help him since it gives him a chance at Sam.
D8D tells Ofélia that the Reptile escaped. The Reptile is with her lawyer (who is now committing a felony). She says that she wants to see Ofélia. She also tells him that she won’t leave LA while JM and Angie are happy together.
FF dreams that guys burst into her room and shoot her. She runs to Miggy’s bedroom and wants to sleep in his bed. Predictable scenes ensue.
Willy has enlisted Cecilia’s help. She has gotten him an apartment and will engage an “assistant” to help him live there.
Cecilia trots right over to Miggy to pass on this information and she wants sex in return. FF is jealous when Cecilia treats her like a child. In return, FF calls Cecilia, “Señora.”
Sam gets a call that she knows is from Willy by caller id. He doesn’t say anything and listens with eyes full of tears as Sam chews him out for leaving her. [I teared up at that scene. You could see his throat working, too, like someone on the verge of crying.]
The Reptile has managed to get into the hospital disguised as an orderly. I guess there is no security there.
JM kisses Angie and they seem to be on the point of getting something going when Emma and the girls burst in and suggest that they all sleep together as a family (not Emma).
With FF listening, of course, Miggy tells Cecilia not to be jealous of FF. She is a girl. Cecilia tells Miggy that she is sure that he prefers experienced women like her.
The Reptile gets into Ofélia’s room. Ofélia has the coughing of death - some other character, was it Perla?, also had this coughing before she croaked. Just like Perla, Ofélia doesn’t manage to tell the Reptile something and we can guess what.. “I saved your life because you are...” Flatline. The Reptile says that Ofélia can’t die. There is an extremely long time before the medical staff come into the room.
D8D and Nora are waiting at the hospital. In comes a guy that D8D calls Rodrigo who says that he got the first plane that he could. Too late, says D8D, Ofélia is dead.
Peralta is released from the hospital. Emma talks about planning their wedding and JM tells Angie that he wants to marry her. He repeats this to Gustavo who shows up a minute or so later.
FF greets Miggy in a towel and tells him that she is angry that he is telling everyone that she is inexperienced and isn’t the kind of woman he desires. The towel falls off and Miggy replies that she is wrong - he desires her more than he has ever desired anyone in this life.
Sam has been give the info about where Willy is staying. She pretends to be his assistant and uses a silly high voice to disguise hers.
Before commenting, I'd like to mention that Jean will not be around to do recaps next week.
As usual, I'll do tonight's episode and will be happy to do Monday, Wednesday and Friday of next week.
Would someone be willing to put something up Tuesday and Thursday? It doesn't have to be lengthy, if you're short on time. Just something to get the comments rolling.
Thanks, Jean. Lucky you - you got the Rodrigo episode!
They really shocked me with Ofelia disguising herself as Fernanda. The only thing is that, when they showed the back view of her setting up the video camera, it sure looked like the Reptile's bubble butt.
I also thought having Ofelia plan to kill Ángela was not a well-written plot development. While the character always stood by Fernanda, she tried to talk her out of harming people over and over. I guess we were meant to conclude that she had realized that the Reptile would never leave LA and ran the risk of being shot by the police if she didn't complete her vengeance. But still...
I'm completely baffled by Ofelia's almost saying the Reptile is her daughter and Nora convinced that she's HER daughter. More baby switching?
Rodrigo isn't at all like I imagined him. But then, they did say he was in grad school or something. He looks very young and not at all sinister.
When the Reptile was duplicating the ugly thug's moments with Emma by slobbering all over a tied up person who isn't into them, I was yelling at JM: For God's sake, bite her the next time she kisses you!
They probably won't go there, but that slimy lawyer of Fernanda's needs to be disbarred and THEN serve a prison term for aiding and abetting a fugitive.
I am actually enjoying the difficulty Ángela is feeling choosing between Gus and JM. The telenovela cliché is that the two protagonists meet and have a mystical bond that can't be broken.
As usual, I'm enjoying Porras' high jinks as he tries to suppress his attraction to FF, especially the towel dropping scene.
I am more and more convinced every time Junior (Marco de Paula) comes on the scene, that he should've been the galan. ugh. Seems he will eventually end up w/ Andrea.
Pobrecita Rosa... she is so dejected about being abandoned as a baby, and growing up without a family. I feel for her.
thanks Jean !!!
I don't watch the previews and got so duped with the Fernanda/Ofelia switch,
Rodrigo (Jonathan Freudman) I guess was in 'Relaciones Peligrosas', playing Diego,
"Sebastian's friend, Nora's new boyfriend who is secretly gay, falls in love with Alejandro."
(from wiki)
I hated to see Ofelia die, or did she,
her role is described in wiki as, "keeper of secrets"
and she did that so well,
I was just beginning to appreciate what a great actress she is,
because it was such an annoying role, she was hard to watch.
on Cecilia/Miggy/FF,
I'm guessing innocence trumps experience,
shame on Miggy for ignoring his body guard duties for a romp, in front of FF,
and shame on telemundo for not showing us the famous Cecilia knock down leap
@ novelera,
Thursday next week is a novela vacation, the new awards show.
Thanks for the recap!!!
Rodrigo!! Finally! (Ah, Diego from RP!) I’ve become so accustomed to just waiting, that his showing up was a bit of a surprise, although of course it would make sense that he’d bother to visit his dying mother.
I don’t think it has been stated what sort of student Rodrigo is, just that he has been studying (I guess he could be in his early twenties?)… I agree that he doesn’t look sinister enough, and I expect that he is going to be a villain.
I wasn’t shocked that Ofelia was pretending to be Fernanda, but the whole situation was a little weird. Fernanda’s face was clearly kept hidden from the viewers, but her butt looked like hers… Also, why would Ofelia (or anyone) bother to wear a wig if she was going to kill Angie anyway?
(So that Fernanda could imagine that she was the one to kill Angie while watching the video?)
Novelera, I don’t think Nora is convinced that Fernanda is her daughter, but she thinks of Fernanda as her daughter. (When she was talking to Angie in prison there was that telling pause, before mentioning her daughter)
I also hope that Fernanda’s slimy lawyer gets what he deserves (but he’s probably not important enough).
I also wondered at first how Willy was able to write the note, but figured that it wouldn’t be actually impossible (and easier than other stuff he has managed to do). The handwriting might be unclear, but possibly readable.
Seriously, Sam couldn’t make her voice a little more natural??? It sounded like a voice a man makes when he wants to sound like a woman.
I could try to write a recap, but I haven’t done it before, so it might turn out quite awful.
hi shallowgal,
I'll make it unanimous,
I just not seeing the JI / Rosa connection,
and are we to believe this is all because she was smitten, love at first sight,
by his line and the ring he gave her,
at least she is not pregnant, as yet.
I like Junior as well,
but when he leans in for a friendly kiss,
Rosa leans away,
I think he is perfect with Andrea,
and just the guy to put Gabriel in his place,
btw, doesn't being previously married disqualify him for Rosa,
maybe Rosa ends up alone,
they did it in 'Flor Salvaje'
(Carla Hernández (Rosa) is a single mom in real life, 9 y.o. son)
JI is/was such a cad,
doesn't Barbie baby mind all of his other affairs,
or is she just seeing this new/different connection JI has with Rosa,
(as someone commented at TW, how can this actress possibly remember all of her lines,
she talks non stop for almost the whole hour)
Carla Hernández (Rosa) is really intriguing to watch,
I'm enjoying her,
and I'm really warming up to Rosaura (Lupita Ferrer) the antagonist,
a bit melodramatic, everyone a little overplaying their roles,
and a touch of Miguel Varoni, the director,
this is fun to watch.
Deb, you're right. I had forgotten they're doing the awards show Thursday night.
Kihaku, if you could do a recap on Tuesday, I'd be grateful. It's not that difficult, and you always have some very insightful comments.
oh Deb! so glad you're here.
I also read about Carla Hernández being a single mom. sometimes, me thinks being a parent in real life, makes for a better actor. She's the only one who does not seem to be overacting, which is why I dislike particularly Lupita Ferrer and Begoña Narváez.
Another great recap as always; again many thanks. I tried practicing writing without looking. It can be a
a little messy but definitely can be done. One must be careful not to overlap rows.
Regarding ages: Sam had Nico when she was 15, and the novela opened 15 years later. It seems that about 3 years have passed judging by Angela's time in prison, etc. Miguel would be at least 35.
The age difference in itself is not bad; I know several women who have good marriages with men 18 - 20 yrs. older. FF did appear very young to Miggy when he found her, and then there is the fact that he was thinking of her as JM's little sister. Alas, men fall for younger women all the time.
The thing that got me was that he seemed to fall even more head over heels with her when he learned that she had never been with another man. This seems to be
classic Male Chauvinism at it finest. He can have all the girls he wants, but he needs to find Miss Purity when it comes to the real deal.
Okay, I’ll (try to) recap next Tuesday’s ep then. :) (I’ll probably get it done/posted on Wednesday morning and count on everyone else to fill in what I miss/forget. :))
Floridia: Actually, it was about 12 years from the birth of Nico to the beginning of the novela (after the kidnapping). When Nico was introduced he was 12 (when Sam was looking for her kid in Valle de Bravo it had been 14 years, but then the writers changed that). There hadn’t been too many time skips before that and afterwards followed the longer ones: 1 year, 7months (and a few shorter ones)… altogether almost 2 years. I suppose counting everything together, as well as the "natural time" in the novela it would still be about 2 years since the beginning. Technically Miggy could be even in his early thirties, but it’s hard for me to buy younger than 35.
I didn’t get the feeling that Fabiola’s inexperience made Miggy fall harder for her… Although… come to think of it Miggy did suddenly fall out of love with Alejandra when he realised that she was a prostitute. (Yeah, being attracted to Fabiola's purity would make sense.)
Thanks for the great recap.
Florida, I don't think the "Miss Purity" is the matter here. The fact that Fabiola has never been with a man didn't attract Miggy, but made him stay away from her. The matter is that, Miggy has been with so many attractive women but he never really loved any of them. Everybody expected to see a beautiful dama beside him, but now he is falling for the most unlikely person! Una nina chaparita flaca salvaje! (a feral thin little girl) And that's the interesting point about their love. Love is Unexpected.
They are one of the most interesting couples I have ever seen in a telenovela.
Yes, deb! Shame on Telemundo for not showing us the famous Cecilia knock down leap. I love Cecilia-Miggy scenes! :D
They really killed Ofelia!
Well, haven't they brought people back from flatline before? Didn't that happen to Willy once?
Anyway, thanks much for the recap Jean!
I, too, like Mig and FF as a couple. The only thing I find annoying is the juvenile quality of some of the conventions: FF sucking on the world's biggest strawberry in front of Miggy; dropping her towel oh-so-accidentally. Too phony for me, but I do love the development of their relationship. And of course Miggy's hilarious scenes with the little girls.
J in Oregon
SFChica, Shallow, et al: I am still watching this but since I missed the beginning, still a bit confused. Was Eva the legit granddaughter of Eduardo and Rosaura? Were Eva and Rosa cousins?
Anyway, I do like Junior. Barbie makes me want to put earplugs in. Miss Margaret is a hoot!
Staying tuned,
J in Oregon
J in Oregon: I don't believe they've really said who Rosa's bio parents are. It's all speculation at this point. Eva is legit, and she is somehow related to Rosa; this'll probably be revealed toward the end of novela.
you're right about Barbie and Ms Margaret.
