El Mundo de Telemundo, week of August 6, 2012: Discuss Amongst Yourselves
Labels: diamante, pablo, rostro, telemundo, valiente
I think after tonight's episode, I'm hooked por ahora.
Novelera - it seems to me that eventually, Mariana will end up with Diego/Martin. at least I hope so. I really like Elizabeth Gutierrez; Maritza - not so much.
Geez, I hope D/M does not end up killing anyone. Don't want him to end up in jail again. David Chocarro doing muy bien in this role.
I wish I had the patience to recap this series, but I don't.
I salute all you recappers!!!
All's I'm good for is commenting, and I don't even do that too well.
I simply love Junior. He and Rosa/Eva are engaging to watch. He invited her to his casa, and that sure got JI all riled up. me encanta!!
I'm having a hard time believing JI doesn't recognize Rosa,
especially after he forced a kiss on her,
and she slapped him, again, duh,
how many girls has he ever met like Rosa?
not to mention that Eva is a blonde,
I didn't know what to think when JI went to her office,
apologised for his dad,
and offered to help her,
this was a completely different guy,
I can see these two connecting,
loving how Rosa has a way of confronting people,
exposing their secrets, faults, and incompetence,
but without malice,
and she always holds the door open for the person to better themselves,
so shallowgal,
do you think that it's possible that Rosa could actually,
bring all of these evil, angry, covert, betrayed, misfits into one big family?
has that ever been done in a novela before?
In her cell the Reptile shrieks and holds a bloody hand to her face while Nora shouts for the guards. The Reptile tells Nora: “But you’re dead.” [Meaning she paid to have the prison fire set and thought she killed her.] Nora says she gave herself up to protect Fernanda.
D8D annoys Willy and Sam by telling them that Ángela and Nora are alive. Sam, as usual, blames Willy for not telling her Ángela was alive. As usual, Willy has to talk himself out of the doghouse – saying he only knew about his mother, not about Ángela. And then she rags on him because he didn’t tell her about his mother! Willy looks right at D8D and says he wanted his mother free because D8D got her imprisoned unjustly. Willy has definitely made D8D look even more despicable to Sam.
At the Luna Azul, Miggy tells JM he’s the last person he expected to find at this club. JM says he realized he needed to be less serious! The bouncer comes to try to eject Miggy, but JM and Miggy work together to beat up the bouncers. Alex comes out and sees Miggy there. When Dante asks her who is this guy, she tells him he’s the only man she ever loved.
Gus tells Ángela that Lourdes gave herself up. She seems to be concerned that the two of them will now live alone. Gus tells her he wouldn’t take advantage of a woman who’s lost her memory. If anything happens between them, it will be because she wants it.
Dante calls Miggy back into the club. Dante tells him Alex told him everything. He’s willing to let Alex go for $50,000.
Emma and Camilo are moping together, Camilo because Lorena left and Emma because she pretended not to care about Pablo and didn’t go to the party with him. Just then Lorena shows up. She didn’t leave after all. Camilo is happy she didn’t leave. She tells him she can’t think of herself; she has to think of Sam and Willy. Then she faints!
When Sam was trying to reach Miggy about Ángela, she couldn’t get him on his cell. She then calls JM and tells him Ángela may be alive. Later JM shows up, completely distraught. He wonders what proof there is. Willy says that his mother survived the fire and is alive. Miggy knows about this.
Miggy pays to spend some time with Alex in the red sex room. She comes in saying she can’t even look him in the eye in this room. Miggy tells her to give him until tomorrow to get the money to free her. Her eyes light up. “To be with you!” Miggy: “No. So you’ll be free to be with whomever you want and to do whatever you want. I don’t buy women, and much less do I buy you.”
Sam confronts Miggy demanding he tell her if Ángela is alive. He tells her yes. Sam asks how can it be that Ángela hasn’t contacted her, JM or even her children. He says he’ll tell her all, but no one else can know. Miggy tells her she thinks her name is Milagros and doesn’t remember anything. He’s tried to keep this quiet because he can’t even imagine how it would be for her if she had to go back to prison the way she is. He tells Sam she’ll have to live a false life until the Reptile is legally proven guilty.
Nora is about to discover some of the great pleasures of life around Fernanda del Castillo. When she offers to help the Reptile, she’s told that Nora and her father are responsible for all the bad things that happened to her. Nora begs to explain. The Reptile gives her a cold look and tells her that the little girl she remembers died. And the one in front of her has no soul and no heart. She’s a killer. She says she doesn’t need her mother any more.
Alex calls JM to say goodbye. She says she’s leaving the business, but really enjoyed meeting him. He wishes her the best.
Oddball, Off-Base Ofelia has Lucy in her arms. D8D is packing stuff. He says they are going to move. JM comes to see him asking about Ángela being alive. D8D says it’s not confirmed but Vicente said it before he died.
D8D comes to see Nic. He makes a crappy remark about how bad he must feel knowing his parents are related. Nic looks right at him: “You know they aren’t!”. D8D says he’s surprised he knows. He says he can tell he has his blood! Nic replies that he doesn’t think he resembles him at all. D8D asks why Nic didn’t tell Sam and Willy. Nic replies that he doesn’t think Willy can make her happy. D8D jumps right in agreeing, saying his son is a skirt chaser, and Sam deserves a man who can make her happy. Nic retorts that his dad is the one who can do that.
Lorena has a high-risk pregnancy and needs bed rest. Willy volunteers to be her novio, while Camilo listens from the doorway. Willy tells Lorena that he and Sam can never be together. She asks to think about his offer.
Ángela is fretting about “Lourdes” when Miggy arrives. And right behind him is Sam, completely stunned to see her friend. Ángela smiles at her and asks what kind of cake she’d like.
Oddball, Off-Base Ofelia has Lucy in her arms at Casa del Castillo. D8D is packing stuff. He says they are going to move. JM comes to see him asking about Ángela being alive. D8D says it’s not confirmed but Vicente said it before he died.
D8D tells Nic he’s going to give him an advance on his inheritance. He wants to give him his house. Like Mephistopheles tempting Dr. Faustus, D8D tells Nic about how luxurious the house will be. He’ll have a pool and the girls will flock around. Esteban comes in, not liking the sight of D8D there. Nic tells his father about the house offer.
Sam and Ángela talk. Ángela says she can’t imagine being a bodyguard. She likes baking! Meanwhile, Miggy is talking with Gus. Gus is very worried about Sam knowing. He tells Miggy he’s not going to let her go back to jail. He loves her. Miggy warns him that Ángela was in love before she lost her memory and that she has two children. Gus could get in the middle of a big mess. Later Ángela tells Gus how happy she was to have “met” Sam.
JM comes to see the Reptile to ask about Ángela. He says he has a right to know. She tells him he never loved her, and she’ll never forgive him. When he starts to walk out, she changes her mind and tells him that Vicente told her Ángela was alive before he died. Maybe it’s true; maybe it was just vengeance.
When Peralta arrives at Casa Arroyo, he gets ganged up on by the little girls who say he looks like he didn’t get any sleep and has dark circles under his eyes from the party! He tells Emma he has been asking himself what he was doing with all those people when he missed Emma. He says they’ll have to find a way to resolve the money issues, but he doesn’t want to be away from her.
I guess Lorena is going for Willy’s offer. The doctor tells them no sex. When Willy agrees, she pouts and asks if it’s because he’s being careful for her or because he doesn’t desire her. Sigh. Outside her room Miggy asks Willy if this is necessary. Willy says that one day she’s staying and the next day she’s leaving. He has to keep her close. When Miggy asks him if it’s because of the baby, he says it’s because of Sam. She’s suffering and doesn’t want to miss a moment of the pregnancy. He tells Miggy he’s resigned himself to living without Sam.
Miggy asks Willy to borrow $20,000. When Willy asks about his mother, Miggy tells him the sad news about her going back to prison to take care of the Reptile.
D8D and Oddball Ofelia have come to see the Reptile. He tells her he couldn’t find out anything about Ángela. The Reptile says she won’t say it’s impossible because there’s a survivor. Nora comes in and says that she’s alive and Ángela is dead.
Miggy brings the money to Dante and warns him not to try anything funny. I’m confused about why Dante asked for $50K and Miggy asked JM for $20K. Miggy had $30K of his own? Writers couldn’t remember the amount all the way through the episode? Dante got screwed?
Gus is showing Ángela some blueprints for a room he's building on for her. She's very pleased and gives him an enthusiastic kiss on the lips!
Palace of Justice siege, 6 November 1985
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palace_of_Justice_siege
"The official version of the attack holds that, in an effort to complete one of the 2 objectives they had assaulted the palace for, the M-19 Guerrillas burnt different criminal records containing proof and warrants against many members of the group and it is also believed, but argued whether they also burnt records against Pablo Escobar, one of the nation's biggest drug trafickers at the time."

November 13, 1985, 7 days later,
"About 20,000 people are feared dead after a volcanic eruption in northern Colombia.
Four towns in the Andes region are reported to have been buried when ash spewed out of the volcano, Nevado del Ruiz, causing a mudslide."

We're inside the Palacio de Justícia, or Supreme Court building in Bogotá. The head of the commandos is Norberto. Raising his gun in the air, he declares that they've come to put President Delacruz on trial. He yells at the workers "you're all hostages." The action gets chilling, as real footage from 1985 is intercut with the scenes of the show. Niki is reporting from the scene. Helicopters arrive. Then tanks.
Pablo and Gonzo are watching the TV coverage. Pablo says he hopes they don't negotiate. In fact, he wants the government soldiers to retake the building. The President wants a peaceful solution. So does Luis, who tells his wife he's going over to the Palace of Justice.
The building is going up in flames. From inside, the supreme court justices plead with the terrorists to give in. No way. The justices call on the phone, please do something to stop this madness! But it's too late. Several generals have decided that no negotiations are going to happen. Tanks start bursting into the building. Soldiers stream in. Firefights break out all over. The commandos decide to fight to the end. And it IS the end. The next day, the country is shocked to find that 11 supreme court justices have been killed (of 25), 35 commandos (all except one) have been killed, along with 40 soldiers and several other workers, over 90 dead in all. The supreme court building of Colombia has been totally destroyed! This REALLY HAPPENED. The President gets on the air, takes full responsiblity, says he was always in control, and approved the military action.
Pablo is happy, he thinks this will take the heat off him and his buddies. Next order of business? He tells the other cartel members they found out Harry Beal was the snitch. He's a dead man. The others laugh, kill an US citizen on US soil? Exactly, says Pablo.
Cut to Harry. Hey guys, no WAY will I spend 9 years in prison. I'll testify, but I only get 6 months. Got it? The prosecutor tells him his life would be in danger if he went out to the street. I'm a big boy, replies Beal. Either it's 6 months, which I've basically already served, or I stay mum, and you give me 25 years. You decide. I think they went with 6 months.
Chili and Topo are back, and they're in Miami (where Harry is). They hire two new thugs, offer $25,000 to kill this guy. He's a total sapo, and doesn't deserve to live. And you'd better make sure he's dead!
We see Guillermo enjoying his extended family, grandchildren and all. He then calls Nanci (Rodrigo's widow) who is in Spain, as is Pedro Montoa. She can't believe the horrifying events that occurred in her home country.
And Pedro Montoa's family's plan has worked! Instead of being extradited to the U.S., they got him extradited to Colombia on that cattle herding charge. He can live with that!
But what about Harry? Cocksure, he kisses a pretty girl goodbye, enters a Miami bar, has a few drinks and a smoke, exits to his car, ready to live large. But our two hired killers have matched the photo. They calmly cock their weapons, walk up to the car, and through the closed window, shoot Harry three times in the back. Ouch.
Next week: Sorry to say, but it looks as if Pablo Escobar is more powerful than ever. Nooooo!
When she called JM, one could take that at least 2 ways:
1) she is a really nice person and wanted genuinely to show her appreciation to JM or 2)she knows a nice millionaire when she sees one.
I am interested in knowing how long it will take her to become drug free.
Many thanks to all.
Deb - well put!! My thought when JI said he wanted to help Rosa was 'yeah, help bring her down?' dunno.
since he is a cad, I believe how he does not remember her. real piece of work that one!
I wonder how Raquel's gonna get out of her husband's clutches to be with Junior.
Thanks Novelera for a stellar recap!
Despite her evilness I am fascinated by Fernanada: she is a flawed, cruel human being, but instead of making her one-dimensional the writers have hinted that she started out a normal child, which makes her tragic as well as evil. Very interesting stuff.
On the other hand I find the Bakery Angela sooo annoying; she's like a puppet nodding her head up and down, with that big smile.
And, we did get to see Arturo and Lucy in this epi, so we know that they are alive and well at least. I do hope the two little girls end up with Lucy.
J in Oregon (aka the Cat Lady)
:o)
Shallowgal, make some room for me -- I'm getting hooked too, even though I was hoping not to. :-)
This is such a terrific ensemble of actors, Chocorro is so far very convincing and I love how our assumptions keep getting turned upside down. Lisazo is great as a slick, evil guy who doesn't have to mug at the camera to underline what a creep he is -- he lets the script unfold and tell the story.
Let's hope the pace and quality continue!
Thanks for a wonderful job, Hombre.
Pablo KNEW Harry wouldn't even have bodyguards. But I can't understand how the US officials didn't keep him under protective custody until AFTER he had testified.
The only way I can bear to watch this is by reminding myself that, as we saw in the very first episode, it's not going to end well for Escobar. But it is horrifying to watch all the tragedy unfolding up until that point.
NovelaMaven - me alegra...que fun! the more, the merrier!!
I just loved how D/M contravened Mariana's suggestion to conceal her relationship with Luciano to Ezequiel.

I stumbled upon this very interesting radio interview with Virginia Vallejo, the real television personality who was Pablo Escobar's lover.
She speaks very clearly and delves into what happened regarding the siege of the Palace of Justice in Colombia that we just saw portrayed.
It's a telephone interview with a news person from Caracol, the Colombian media company. It was given in 2008, and she is apparently in the US for her own safety. It is, of course, entirely in Spanish.

The problem I have with this novela is that I have the distinct impression that I've figured everything out already.
I'm distracted by Elizabeth Gutiérrez' wig. Why? She has perfectly lovely hair that I've seen in photos.
And Diego/Martín is such a chump that when Ezekiel tells him he's a "natural born killer" he just goes along with the program?
Anyway, in my opinion, Corazón Valiente is SO much better.
Shallowgal, I liked how Diego handled Mariana too.
Novelera, I have no idea where this is going. Is Diego really such a chump? I'm hoping not.
We're given to believe that he is cognitively speaking, some kind of genius but he is SO emotionally stunted and traumatized by everything that has happened, that he is vulnerable. How vulnerable? Will he blindly obey orders to kill?
Was he really the killer twenty years ago or was that a set-up?
Ah, the wig. Sometimes a wig is just a wig. And sometimes it is a convenient way for a character to change appearance as the plot requires. Ni modo. EG is so gorgeous, she could be wearing Bozo the Clown wig and still carry it off.
You all are having such a good time with Corazón valiente that I'm kind of sorry I missed out. :)
Novelera, that is a fabulous link. Thank you! I'm really glad to know about the Caracol radio site.
Thanks so much for the excellent recap
According to the telenovela conventions Alex must be an innocent nice woman that Miguel will end up with, yet I feel it can't be that simple.
I can't stand the Bakery Angela either. I wonder if the actress thinks that she's sweet or what.
De nada, NovelaMaven. I'm quite sure a grain of salt is necessary listening to what Ms. Vallejo has to say. But it's fascinating hearing her version of events.
Her book: Amando a Pablo, Odiando a Escobar was supposed to be translated in 2010 or 2011 into English. I haven't been able to find it in English, but it's available in Spanish at my public library!
Thanks to all for the links to some of the real people and events behind the show. I noticed they've changed a bunch of the names (MR-19 to MR-20, Virginia to Regina, for example). I guess the ones they didn't change, Rodridgo and Luis (maybe Guillermo) are related to the writers or producers and must have given their permission.
The interview with Virginia was fascinating. And what a complicated relationship she must have had with Escobar to title her book loving Pablo, hating Escobar! She also has a lot of anger against the army, the government, etc. Finally, it was telling how she says Pablo's main motivation in life was getting revenge on those who betrayed him.
In certain countries (such as Mexico & Colombia) the job of President, trying to stop drug cartels, but also not wanting to escalate the scale of violence, must be almost impossible. People blame the government if it's too weak, but also if it's too harsh.
I agree that this show would be very difficult to watch if we didn't know what happens to Pablo in the end. I can watch all sorts of made up drug cartel shows. But the fact that these events really happened, to real people, increases the impact many times.
Thanks for another excellent recap, Novelera. Has anyone considered that Angela needs medical treatment for her condition? No, I guess it's (nobody tell her anything, we'll just wait and see if she remembers). That was a funny/sad scene where Sam almost couldn't speak, and Angela was happier than a clam!
I'm not sure Nora's affirmation that she survived, but Angela didn't, is going to last long. More people are finding out about Angela each day.
And lots of people know Sam and Willy are not siblings. I'm guessing Lorena will find out soon, but she won't tell, either.
I think Nicolas is going to live at D8D's house. We need a scorecard to keep track of who has lived where. Almost everyone has lived at either D8D's house or JM's house. Or the hospital. Or the jail.
This thing has gone in so many directions...remember when Sam and Angie opened their own agency? haha. Oh well.
Angela never could sell it as a bodyguard, for that matter neither could Pablo. The time when Angela was away was better for the show I thought as she was so tired..now with the memory loss storyline I've enjoyed watching some of the other actors interact with her as they find out she's still alive.
Juan Marcos continues to play the roll of the village idiot, what a bore. Shame too, cause as an actor I don't think he's bad.
I think they've carried the incest thing on long enough. How many times do we get to see them toghether, then break up, then back, etc.?
EL ROSTRO
I'm liking this one and interested to see some of the back history. Great cast, David Chocarro is awesome, he's shown a lot of diversity in the last 3 novelas that we've seen him in.
Thanks for all the great recaps! I was a week behind from watching Olympics and then my DVR glitched and erased all my shows! Argh!
I too am sick of the incest storyline. I saw it coming from the beginning and was hoping it would play out faster. Hope that now more people now, it will start to unravel. Can't believe they haven't done more tests after the Miguel SR video and Nora's doubts...
Jewels
What I am waiting for JM to apologize to Angela for not believing in her innocence. The writers better give us a fully loaded scene on that one. Maybe they are saving that for the end. Wonder if the finale will be a smackdown between Angela and Fernanda?
And yeah, whatever happened to the Girl Bodyguard Agency? Running on autopiloto?
J in Oregon
Gus is falling more and more for Ángela. He tells her they should just pretend they have no pasts and were born yesterday.
Alex and Miggy arrive at his apartment. She’s carrying a very small duffle bag, but I’m sure she’ll manage to produce a lovely wardrobe from it. She’s happy to be there and notices that Miggy is rather distant. He tells her they aren’t the same as they were and it will take some effort on her part considering the life she was leading. They kiss, and then he searches her jeans pocket and finds drugs. He tells her getting clean will be her biggest test.
The Reptile grills Nora about whether Ángela is still alive. Nora tells her to forget JM and Ángela. The Reptile replies she can’t forget him; she lived only for him all these years. She killed for him. She doesn’t regret what she did and would do it again. She threatens Nora that she won’t have pity if she doesn’t tell her the truth. [Nora screwed up, in my opinion. She left her son, who adores her, to go to jail to be with a monster.]
A new character, Federico Varela, calls someone to set up an immediately meeting with D8D. He’s looking at the newspaper story of the Reptile on the front page.
D8D shows up at Willy’s apartment saying he came to bring something to his grandchild, giving him the keys to his house. Willy smells a rat, asking him what he’s up to. D8D says the house has been put in Nic’s name. Nic says thank you; and, when prompted by D8D, adds “Thank you, grandfather.”
Alex tells Miggy to go ahead and throw out the drugs. She’s prepared to go to any lengths for him. When they embrace again, he pulls some more drugs out of her bra. Miggy: “We’re starting out with lies?” She goes to take a shower, and while she’s gone, JM burst in, which he’s done lately in everyone’s house! He knows Nora is alive and wants to know about Ángela. Miggy lies to him and tells him she’s dead.
D8D is being driven somewhere by Ofelia. She tells D8D she doesn’t believe he gave Nic the house for love. No, of course not, he replies. He wants to win Nic over. Esteban will keep lying about Sam being his daughter, but he’s afraid of what the “snotnose” might do. But once they are living in his house, the one who’s going to go away is Esteban because he’s a nuisance. And he, D8D, is going to end up with Sam.
Sam tells Jefe Willy and Lorena are together now, causing a big smile from the big guy.
Willy tells Lorena about D8D giving Nic a house. She tells him D8D could give him 1,000 houses, but Willy gave him a kidney – he gave him life. He says that doesn’t matter and that Nic doesn’t love him. Just then Nic and Jessica come to the door with a pizza to share, making Willy very happy. Later, though, Jessica innocently mentions the ring Esteban bought and asks if Willy and Lorena are going to marry also.
Meanwhile, Jefe has planned a surprise, with candles and wine. He gives Sam a big rock and proposes. She says yes. Jefe says they’ll be a family in a month. He says he has lots of confidence in himself and he’s sure that she’s going to love him [famous other man/other woman telenovela words].
Peralta says he’s giving up modeling for Emma. Just then Miggy arrives with Alex to introduce her to his “family”. JM is just coming into the room with Violeta and Génesis. Génesis pipes up that it’s the “friend” of her papí. Miggy has a strange look on his face. Miggy figures it out and says: “he’s a client”. JM looks ashamed.
JM gets the girls out of the room with Emma. Miggy tells him that now he understands why he was at Luna Azul the other night. JM tells him he had no idea the two of them knew each other. Alex says she didn’t know either. JM feels awful, and Miggy runs out.
Ángela and Gus tease each other, even some jokes about memory loss, in the kitchen and then have a flour throwing fight.
Esteban starts kissing Sam and appears to be ready to jump her bones. She asks him to give her time. [What happened to what he said about not needing sex, just to be around her?]
Federico Valera is a lawyer, and that’s why he wants to meet with D8D. He wants to defend Fernanda and tells D8D he loves a challenge. D8D tells him she’s guilty. He says he knows.
Carmen Pérez, whose face was scarred in the fire, tries to choke the Reptile in the laundry room with a sheet. But she’s the one who ends up strangled to death.
Willy brings Nic home. He sees the champagne. Esteban gloats; have a drink to celebrate our wedding, which will be in a month. Willy drinks his champagne and breaks the glass in his hand. He tells Esteban to take a look at Sam’s happy face, ironically. He tells him Sam is his and he kisses her. They get into a major fight. Willy is getting the best of it when Nic comes into the room and tells Willy not to hit his papa.
Miggy tells Alex he was a big womanizer before he fell for her. Then he thought he’d met someone special. After he lost her, he closed his heart up. She asks what he feels right now and he says it’s hard to open a heart that's been closed for so many years.
In a very fine scene by Fabián Ríos, Willy tells Nic that he loves him, but the boy doesn’t love him back. He says that Nic calls Sam mama, Esteban Papa, and even his father Abuelo. But he calls him simply Willy. He says he would give his life for Nic. He tells him he has his kidney in his body. And, if he could, he would give him his heart and his blood if he could hear him say he loved him. He tells Nic he thought his heart would explode with joy when he came to see him, but now realizes he only did it to leave Esteban and Samantha alone. He asks if he’s ever seen the face of suffering. This is it, because the distance Nic shows kills him. He asks what he has to do for Nic to love him. Nic: I’m sorry. Willy tells them to also raise a toast for his son that they’re taking away from him day by day.
JM comes to see Nora and begs her to tell him if Ángela is alive. He says he HAS to beg her forgiveness. He can’t live with his guilt. Nora tells him she was a witness to how much Ángela suffered from his hatred, but she never stopped loving him. She asks him to pray for her.
D8D brings the lawyer, Varela, to meet Willy. When D8D notices something sad about Willy, Lorena tells him Sam is going to marry Esteban.
The Warden of the women’s prison says that the Reptile is the principal suspect in the killing of Carmen Peréz. The Reptile says her lawyer will speak for her.
Nicolás shows up at Willy’s apartment. He says that it’s hard to have two dads. He wants to get to know Willy. He asks him to take him to the house that’s now his and that Willy grew up in. Then he hugs him.
Sam brings Juan Cruz to see Ángela. We get a telenovela llamada de la sangre when Ángela reaches for the child right away. She asks if he’s Sam’s child. Sam says he’s the child of a dear friend. When Ángela takes JC out of the room, Gus says: “It’s her son, right?” Sam tells him he’s right. She was hoping it would trigger a memory.
Federico Varela shows up to see JM [why?]. He shakes hands, reminding him he’s a friend from college. JM says he never was his friend. He tells JM he’s the Reptile’s new lawyer.
Willy is showing Nic around the house where he grew up. Sam shows up. When Nic leaves the room, Willy tells Sam he wants lots of time with Nic – hours, days. And Sam will want to see Lorena and what’s in her belly. But from now on, he never wants to see Sam again.
A month passes…
Sam: “A month without Willy”
Willy: “A month without Sam”
Jefe: “Today you will be my wife.”
When Sam leaves to prepare for the wedding, Willy shows up with a sign saying: “Don’t get married. I love you.”
thanks so much novelera !!!
that new lawyer sure looks evil,
odd that he is making the rounds meeting everyone,
I wonder if his school acquaintances also include Fernanda, Vincente, Isabel, Gonzalo, etc.
or was that a high school thing,
He sure seems to have his own agenda, as well as being Fernanda's lawyer.
Anymore, I'm ok with JM and Angela going separate ways,
I think I've had enough of that relationship,
even when JM cleared away all of the barriers,
Angela would just come up with new ways why they shouldn't be together,
and the life in prison thingy was a doozy,
and I like Gus,
I hope they don't throw him under the Fernanda bus just to get rid of him,
so the JM/Angela thing can work.
and besides, JM can just mosey on down to the local brothel if he gets bored.
and Angela seems like she couldn't be happier, baking cakes.
(but I guess there are the kids)
Gracias otra vez, novelera! better reading than watching.
I too really like Gus. Hope he ends up with someone more suitable, cuz it won't likely be w/Angela.
Ugh! another character introduced (el abogado). en serio?? no more bad guys por favor!!
Juan Cruz is so cute!!
Pablo is living it up. Forget his wife Pati, his amante Regina, he's also with a very young girl (probably one of many). So much for fidelity.
Antioquia, 1986. We see Marcos Herber flying a drug filled plane towards a landing strip. On the ground, Jiménez has gotten the local guy to radio everything's fine. Jiménez walks over to the soldier's, arrest the guy as soon as he lands. But the local guy runs back to the radio, yells it's a trap, and Marcos zooms by, avoiding the shots of the soldiers. So close!
At Napoles, they're having a barbecue and soccer game. One guy trips Pablo, and he gets po-ed. We later find that this very guy is working undercover for Jiménez.
The wife of one of the cops whom Pablo killed way back has gone to an old skinny judge, why don't you arrest Escobar? OSJ says the case is complicated, what about the witnesses? The wife says they're all scared to testify.
In the US, Jiménez is given an award for his anti-drug efforts. Luis and Guillermo are in the audience. Jiménez says we're seizing Marcos Herber's properties, and working on extraditing him.
Niki interviews another judge, who is also building a case against Pablo. Right after the interview, the judge goes outside, two guys on a moto check a photo, and the judge is shot dead. Niki runs out, horrified.
The OSJ is at a family gathering. His phone rings. His son (even though he's old, his wife is young and he has young children) answers, gets scared, gives his Dad the phone. A voice keeps repeating "Rest in Peace". Uh oh.
Pedro Montoa is in a luxurious cell in Colombia. Yes, he's in jail, but his lawyer says he'll be out in 3 to 4 months. He can live with that!
Jiménez talks with his mole, who doesn't have too much hard evidence on Pablo. Somehow, I think this guy should increase his life insurance.
Pablo meets with OSJ (the old skinny judge). Pablo asks hows the wife, I understand a baby's on the way. The judge feels the menace, as do we. Will he stand up to Pablo? Will he be bribed? Stay tuned.
Thank heavens for Junior cluing Rosa in on what his company knows about her new line 'Diamante Rosa.'
So it looks like she'll be setting up a trap to find out the snitch. Smart gal. hope she catches the right one.
I don't really pay attention to abuela, but does anyone know why she pretends to be blind? such a stupid scenario.
Great recap, Novelera. We had two more telenovela conventions last night. First, the typical food fight as lovers discover each other. You could smell this one a mile away. Second, they're always getting married in "one month". It's never two months, two weeks, 6 months, or anything normal. Always one month. Of course, this is just for bad guys. Good guys get married IMMEDIATELY (once all the telenovela problems are resolved :)
thanks Hombre !!!
I have a really hard time keeping everything and everyone straight,
and your recaps really help,
btw, on the accents,
(not that I understand them much, but I love hearing them talk)
I stumbled across an article on Antioquia, the Colombian department that includes Medellin,
which mentions,
"The current Spanish dialect in Antioquia, closely observed, has obvious influences from Basque."
there was some more on this under the section,
"Antioquia Basque speech"
ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antioquia_Department
is anyone finding this to be true?
Thanks, Hombe, a fine recap, as always!
Googling Escobar reveals an astonishing number of judges and police officers being killed.
I'm worried about Jiménez. Last night it sounded like they have him in the crosshairs. He's my favorite character.
People end up tripped and falling down all the time in soccer. But no, the megalomaniac gives the guy murderous looks who detracted from his fantasy that he's a good soccer player.
Having the surviving judge walk with a cane and appear somewhat feeble heightens the anxiety, in my opinion. It probably is a true fact.
Thanks, Novelera and Deb for keeping up with CV while I was having a great week in Barcelona, Spain! [Spanish TV was showing Doña Bárbara]. I will do a recap of tonight's episode.
Novelera: the thing I like about the recaps on this site is that they are not too long or loaded with verbatim dialogue---but they do have enough substance to cover the important stuff.
Hombre: hehehe, the food fight. Guess we are supposed to remember the cake making food fight many months ago with Genesis, Violeta and JM.
I do think it is a bit slimey of Gus to continue pursuing Angela even though he knows she has a family "out there".
J in Oregon
Welcome back, Jean! Barcelona! If you could see my face, it would be green with envy.
Did you hear much Catalán? And, if so, could you understand any of it?
J in Oregon, I agree 100%. I don't have the patience to read the very long recaps that are featured on many of the Univisión novelas. I understand that many people come to this site because of very limited Spanish, and thus appreciate almost word for word recaps. But I'd rather, like you, read a summary of what happened.
Great recap of what I thought was an action packed episode. Willy has the best lines in the novela and delivers them flawlessly. I love Willy (and FR). Miguel has good lines as well and is an excellent actor, Oh He of the Raised Eyebrows.
First time I ever saw Nic smile was when he and Willy were hugging.
Novelera, I posed a question to you on Saturday's post if you get a chance to check back there. I too think that Gus is being too presumptious since he knows that Angela has children, but I guess he just cannot help himself.
I think Juan Cruz looks just like JM - big wide staring eyes.
Looks as if tonight will be a good one according to the advances - at long last.
Mil gracias for all of your hard work.
Floridia, I meant to try to answer your question, but didn't get back to it.
Actually, I don't remember exactly what JM said to Alex. My impression was that he DID do the deed. He was grateful to Alex for the "stress relief" and her apparent kindness as well. From her point of view, it must have been much better to be with such a papacito than her likely usual rich old guys. I remember that he paid her what was 3 times what she usually got. And that got dollar signs in Dante's eyes, wanting her to encourage JM. I'm pretty sure I remember Dante taking most of the money she got.
Floridia,
I checked it on internet. novelera mentioned the important points. Here's the dialogue:
Alex - You was so passionate
JM - I'm furious
Alex - Was I that bad?
JM - No, it has nothing to do with you
Then he gives her some money. Alex says it's more than double of what I usually earn in one night. "It would be too difficult to forget a man like you".
JM - For money!
Willy asks Sam not to marry El Jefe. He says that a month with Lorena has convinced him that a marriage without love doesn't function. Nic comes over and asks Sam if she is going to marry Jefe. Sam say that she will and Willy tells her that he thought she had a "Corazón Valiente," a "brave heart" but now he thinks she is a coward.
Alex is in withdrawal. Miggy ecourages her and she asks him to never leave her. He says that he won't but for her sake, not for him.
JM tells Duval that he is worried about the guy who is defending the Reptile. Duval tells him that the case is rock solid. [With Duval's record, I'd be worried, too.]
Ángela wonders why she wasn't invited to the wedding. She tells Gustavo that Sam doesn't seem to be too happy.
The wedding is taking place in D8D's old house, which now belongs to Nic. Miggy arrives and declines to be Jefe's best man. He says that he doesn't believe in marrying without love. Ofelia is helping with the arrangements. She gets a call from D8D asking if she has done something. She says no and D8D reams her out. His plans to get rid of Jefe have failed up to now. He can't permit Sam to marry him.
The Reptile's murder of a fellow prisoner has got her a privileged status with the other inmates who are doing her work.
Back at the apartment, Willy tells himself that he feels like his heart is being ripped out. He doesn't know whether to go to the wedding or not. Lorena calls. He has forgotten about her sonogram appointment. Her baby is a girl. Camilo is with her and they hear the baby's heartbeat.
Sammy comes to see Angie. Angie advises her not to marry without love. Sam asks Angie if she loves Gustavo.
Odd Ofelia gives Jefe a cup of coffee with such significance that we can assume that it is poisoned or drugged in some way.
Miggy comes to see Nic who is thoughtful. Nic asks Miggy whether he should always tell the truth or lie for “egoismo.” Miggy tells him that it depends but the truth is the most powerful weapon that he has, more powerful that his fists
Federico, the Reptile’s lawyer, comes to see her and makes cryptic statements.
Angie picks up an invitation to Sam’s wedding that she apparently dropped. She has an idea - she will deliver the cake herself!
Sam finds Jefe unconscious on the floor foaming at the mouth. Miggy suspects poison, has Jefe vomit and he seems to be ok. Jefe accuses Willy of poisoning him. Sam and Miggy respond that Willy would not do such a thing. [Why doesn’t anyone ask what the last thing he had to eat or drink was?]
The Reptile is terrified to have her bandages taken off. She has done so much to be beautiful and admired that she doesn’t want to be ugly and pointed at again.
The paramedics says that it was a false alarm. Jefe ate something that didn’t agree with him, vomited it up and now he is ok. The wedding is a go. Sam goes to talk to Ofelia about the coffee that she gave Jefe.
We see Angie in a taxi at the gate of the house with JM in a car right behind but he doesn’t see her. Gustavo is in pursuit.
The bandage is off and the Reptile has a not very bad scar on her face that could certainly be improved with plastic surgery but she is destrozada.
Sam tells Ofelia that it seems very strange that she turned up to help with the wedding and Jefe was poisoned. Ofelia denies everything. Meanwhile Angela is outside with this enormous cake that she certainly didn’t get in that taxi. The policeman on guard won’t let her in.
Alex calls her pimp for some drugs but hangs up at the last minute. Miggy advises her to go into rehab but she wants to be with him.
D8D shows up for the wedding. Sam accuses him of poisoning Jefe but D8D claims he has no reason to do so, unlike Willy.
Camilo comes to see Willy. He tells Willy that he loves Lorena but she loves Willy. He says that the doctors advised that if Lorena has any strong emotion, she could lose the baby and he knows Willy doesn’t want that.
Angie is still arguing with the guard. She sees JM, Violeta and JC, has some kind of reaction and just leaves the cake.
In a very cute scene, Sam is putting on her makeup and Willy appears in the mirror telling her that he is always with her and that will never change.
Ofelia leaves the wedding in a huff.
JM runs after the cake maker. Gustavo finds Angie but she says that she isn’t Milagros and she doesn’t know who he is.
The judge arrives. Sam comes downstairs. The ceremony is about to start and we see that Willy is there.
The Reptile tells Nora that Willy and Sam are not brother and sister. The analysis was false. It was done with her blood. The ceremony takes place. Miggy is a witness. He signs the book and tells Sam that he wishes he could congratulate her but he can’t.
Then Nic says that he can’t keep quiet any more - Sam and Willy aren’t brother and sister. Everyone is muy impactados.
Thanks so much Jean. All the near misses with Angela were frustrating the heck out of me. I hope they don't make it seem like JM wasn't sure about what he saw (Angela) by the next episode.
It also bugs me that these lazy writers don't show completed conversations. Like, what did Angela say when Sam asked her if she loves Gus?! They are too lazy to think up dialogue. I don't mind recaps that detail dialogue, when the dialogue is worth it. Willy's speech to Nic the other night was worth it. I'm glad Novelera gave us the details on that, because it was great and touching.
So are Sam and Jefe married? Seems to me that Nic waited to drop his truth bomb until AFTER the paperwork had been signed by everyone. But I'm glad that that storyline is finally coming to an end.
Alex agreed to go to rehab by the end, but I don't think she's serious about it.
Great recap, Jean. I loved some of your observations, about Federico's cryptic statements, Angela getting that cake in the taxi, Reptile's face problems. Hah!
I think Federico said something like we want to make SURE you're guilty, as if that will somehow HELP Fernanda?
Why on earth would Angela now not recognize Gustavo? Are they saying when you recover your old memory you lose all the new stuff? Okaaaay.
Ofelia really deserves to go to jail. Now she's not just bearing silent witness to Reptile and D8D's crimes, she's actively participating. I saw her put that white powder in Jefe's coffee, although it was very quick. Bad Ofelia!
At one point, D8D said to himself he really had loved someone. 1) I can't even remember who he's talking about (Nora, Sam?) and 2) he doesn't seem capable of love. He really needs some payback, too.
Niki interviews Pedro Montoa in his minimum security jail. Pedro denies everything. Do you think one day you’ll be judged? she says quietly. This interview is over, he huffs.
The guy who is working for Pablo, but gave info to Jiménez (I’ll call him the mole, but I’m not sure whose side he’s really on) is getting nervous, since he knows the army is readying some kind of raid.
Old Skinny Judge (his name is Magistrate Zuluaga, he’s the chief magistrate of Medellin) tells his pregnant wife, yes, we’re in danger.
Marcos Herbér tells HIS pregnant wife not to worry. He then gives a wad of cash to some hired killer for something.
Jiménez tells the soldiers, our objective is Marcos Herbér.
Niki’s in a hotel lobby. She’s surprised to run into Regina. Even stranger, who should enter a few minutes later, but Pablo Escobar! Niki tells Guillermo that Regina and Pablo are amantes, but of course, there’s no proof. We see Regina and Pablo snuggling in their hotel room, as he complains that the authorities want to pin every little murder of a judge on him (of course, he’s probably guilty of most of them). She tells him he should get an attorney to avoid the extradition threat, but so far, he’s not worried. He compares himself with none other than Simón Bolívar, the great Liberator of many countries in South America. (First the pope, now Bolívar
The mole tells Chili the army is about to raid Marcos. Chili calls Marcos, who is in the middle of a big coke party (not coca cola), and said chill, until he hears the helicopters, dumps the platter of coke on the ground, and it’s every man for himself! As the soldiers land and start shooting, several of Marcos’ men are shot, and many others are rounded up, but Marcos himself escapes in a little boat. Not again! says Jiménez.
Judge Zuluaga’s wife is driving her kids to school, when her car is pulled over by some soldiers. I’m pretty sure the leader is Chili, hair slicked back, wearing an army uniform. Out of the car, Señora, they order. She and the kids get out, and the men push the car off a cliff! This was a warning, they announce.
Jiménez has Marcos’ wife arrested. There’s a big unexplained parcel sitting right in front of her. You can’t have drugs in your house, he says. Drug? she laughs. They cut open the huge parcel, and it’s filled with money! Same thing, says Jiménez. That’s not MY money, she argues. Tell it to the judge, replies Jiménez. Do you want to talk, or do you want your baby to be born in jail?
Colonel Pedregal (whom is sort of on Pablo’s payroll) comes to visit Judge Zuluaga. We’ll provide you and your family with round the clock protection. Really? asks Zuluaga. How well did that work for Rodrigo Lara Bonilla? Good point.
Thanks, Hombre. Yeah, that was what Federico said but it doesn't make any sense to me. Federico also seems to have some history with JM.
Your're right, why wouldn't Angela recognize Gustavo?
I also don't understand D8D's plan for El Jefe. It seemed like this wasn't a very strong or fast-acting poison so that El Jefe was able to recover and the marriage occurred. Is there a more devious plan or is D8D just an incompetent assassin on his own?
Thank you, Jean, and welcome back!!!
I'm annoyed that Nic waited til after the ceremony to make that little announcement. bah!
Floridia - I too think little JC looks like JM. so cute.
Thank you Jean for excellent recap. I was able to tune in last night after my lost weekend of watching all things Michael Fassbender. It was a pleasure to see the horrible incest storyline end. I applauded at the end. I only asked what was the point to wait until after, I mean what struck him to say it. His father had been poisoned, everyone said it was to stop him from marrying Sam, you would think he would have spoken up then. I wonder what D8D has planned.
Right now I think Angela and her missing memory is badly done. I like her smiling instead of her previous look of sorrow, but her storyline seems to drag on. I want the feisty Angela. I have to wonder if JM having sex with a prostitute, did this clear his head and make him snap out of his fog.
I am looking forward to see how they wipe away Reptiles sins, whose life will she save at one point to be redeemed.
Okay back to my marathon of Michael Fassbender, I'm watching Jane Eyre at moment. Michael Fassbender then to watch Miggy, it's just great. (sorry for my little off track here)
Thanks, Jean, excellent recap. You certainly got a humdinger for your return to this telenovela.
I think Esteban was just trying to accuse Willy for spite. When D8D arrived for the wedding he directly accused him of the poisoning and mentioned three other attempts in the last month (since they announced the wedding date).
I guess I didn't think it was that odd that Ángela didn't recognize Gus. I must have had my neurons corrupted by too many telenovelas! It just seemed to me like the fire in the prison had traumatized her into forgetting everything. And then, seeing JM and the children was like pushing the re-set button sending her back to being her former self. But, we'll find out tonight if she's completely aware of everything that happened before the fire.
Lorena is going to be a problem. She was pretty sulky last night when Willy forgot the sonogram appointment. I remember when Willy said he'd be her novio because she was on again/off again. She's not stable, and Sam and Willy's reconciliation is going to be a blow.
Jean, I thought the same thing. Actually I thought: "Crap! That scar isn't bad at all". I was hoping the Reptile's face under the bandage would look like "Night of the Living Dead".
Well, there's no turning back now, for sure. They might have tortured us with Sam not believing Nic, but the Reptile telling Nora sealed the deal. I enjoyed the shot of D8D's face, all grinning triumph gone, when Nic spoke up. Wonder if he really signed over the deed to the house? Hope so!
This is actually the second horrific thing Ofelia has done. She let Emma's friend who was pregnant by D8D (forgot her name) drown in the pool. She needs some serious justice. She'll probably die saving the Reptile, or something, but I'd rather see her in prison.
Anyway, this was a great episode!
Thanks, Hombre. I'm getting more and more confused about who is who in the novela. So, is Marcos Herber just a plain old narco, or is he one of the revolutionary leaders also?
Regina and Escobar's pillow talk scene was fascinating. She kept trying, in a firm yet kind way, to get him to renounce his killing of officials. And the expression on her face was priceless as he seems completely lacking in guilt for his actions, saying only those who "harm" him are harmed. As if he doesn't realize that he's breaking any laws. The Simón Bolívar thing was just amazing!
So the mole decided to change sides in the middle of the Army operations and warn Chili? What? Or was that somehow part of the plan and I didn't understand it?
They certainly are making Federico Valera, the Reptile's lawyer an ambivalent character. After going out of his way to convince D8D that he was the man for the job, he went to see JM. When JM said they weren't exactly friends, I thought Valera maybe was doing the defense to get back at JM for something that happened when they were at university.
It certainly seems like he may have wanted the defense job for the prestige and newsprint, sort of like Mark Geragos [attorney for Michael Jackson, Winona Ryder, and Scott Peterson).
But his behavior around the Reptile is odd, making me wonder if he isn't there to "throw the case" and keep her in jail.
But, being a telenovela veteran, I feel fairly confident she'll get out at some point, whether cleared in court or in a prison escape. She has to try to kill Ángela. I just hope it isn't in prison. Please don't let them return Ángela to prison and have them be cellmates!
^5 to novelera and deb for the past super recaps, and also to Jean for the recap of last night's episode. What a fabulous vacation! Welcome back.
Finally! Nicolás spilled the beans about the incest foolywang which will hopefully be put to rest muy pronto, but Sam will still be on my sh*t list for a few days after it's over for how she treated Willy. I can understand her needing space to sort out the impact of incest on her life (I sure would), but why the added cruelty when he was so open and honest with her? What would it accomplish to marry Jefe? She'd still have to see Willy at events involoving Nico, share custody with him and, therefore, have contact with him after their girl baby is born. {{{Sigh}}} Novela conventions can sure work my nerves.
Why would Jefe and Sam (especially) allow a teenager to make the decision of moving into D8D's furnished gift to him? Don't they realize that D8D will just barge in any time he wants? I thought they hated him? It also crossed my mind that it would only be a matter of time before the perverted sleaze bag D8D would start making repulsive passes at Jessica since he lusts after young women. Eewww!
I'm with you, Vivi, about being frustrated over all of Angela's near misses at being seen. Like you, I'm still unclear as to whether or not JM actually saw her face at the end of last night's episode. I hope so. Ángela's fainting incident after the trauma of seeing her family was a bit much and the selective amnesia convention always boggles.
However, the actual scene of her watching JM play with the children on the lawn actually made my eyes well up. I'm such a sucker for romance and for sweet family scenes. As I've mentioned before, I'm in a minority of one here who is pulling for a romantic reunion between JM & Angie and their charming children (though he must suffer a bit first). It's time for some stability in at least one of these dysfunctional, jacked-up relationships!
I loved seeing Arturo and Lucy the other night. I notice that Lucy gets petted, cuddled, and held but nobody ever pets poor Arturo or scratches his ears - even when he's a part of the scene. I wonder if the actors are afraid of him?
NovelaNewbie
Jean--you're baaaaack! Thanks for the great recap--can you believe how much happened while you were "away"?
Okay, 1. the cake delivery scene was cute because it was an exact duplicate of the very first episode where Angela delivers a cake to the home of JM's parents.
2. At the wedding ceremony, I think Nicko dropped his bombshell before Sam signed the license--will that mean she and Jefe are not legally married?
3. I thought Reptile's scar was going to make her face look like a plate of melted cheese. Alas, no.
4. Sulky Lorena is still potentially a nut job as far as I'm concerned.
5. Nicko blurts out incest news in front of a bunch of wedding guests. That would make for some interesting party-talk at the cake table...
J in Oregon
Thanks for another really helpful write-up, Hombre. As Novelera says, it's tricky following characters especially because they are so often two-faced.
Novelera, my take is that Marcos Herber is just one of the Medellín narcos who decided to camouflage himself as a revolutionary guerrilla.
It's hard to believe that Regina doesn't know exactly who she is in bed with (literally) at this point in the tale. As if all he needs is a little gentle reasoning and a little nookie -- and Pablo will mend his evil ways. yeah, right.
Yes, I also think Marcos is a regular narco, one of the cartel. I think Jimenez is chipping away at them, trying for Pedro Montoa, now Marcos, maybe Mariachi next.
As for the mole, I think he wants to be loyal to Pablo, but has been threatened by the police. I'm not sure, though. But by waffling like this, he could end up in big trouble from one side or the other.
Nic makes his announcement that Sam and Willy aren’t brother and sister and then runs and locks himself in a room. D8D suggests that he made up the whole thing.
The Reptile tells Nora that she exchanged her blood test sample for Sam’s. Nora asks why she would want to help her father who pushed her down the stairs and never liked her.
JM sees Gustavo put Angie in a car and drive away.
Everybody is trying to get Nic to open the door. D8D and el Jefe claim that they didn’t know anything about it. Miggy tells Jessica that she is the only one Nic will open the door to.
Lorena faints.
Alex calls the drug dealer. He says that he has the stuff for her. Is she going to pay in cash or with sex? Alex asks JM for money for medicine that she needs and asks him not to tell Miggy about it.
Camilo tells Sam that Lorena is under a lot of stress and might lose the baby.
Gustavo gets Angie home and her amnesia has returned but she keeps seeing JM and the kids.
Miggy urges Nic to follow his heart and tell the truth; Jefe asks Nic not to tell Sam that he knew they weren’t brother and sister. He will die if Sam hates him. Nic asks to be alone with Sam.
D8D wants to leave but Miggy says that he is staying because he is responsible for what happened.
Nora calls Willy and tells him what the Reptile told her.
JM tells Miggy about Alex’s request for money for medicine. Miggy replies that she is sick - she needs a drug - cocaine.
Inspector Duval drops by to see Gustavo and he is muy impactado to see Angie there.
Sam urges Nic to tell her what he knows. Before he can, Willy bursts in to tell her what Nora told her. Jefe and D8D are right behind him and they pretend to be shocked at finding out that the Reptile was responsible. Nic flashes back to Miggy telling him about the power of truth. He tells Sam that both Jefe and D8D already knew that she wasn’t Willy’s sister. D8D says that Jefe knew and that he, D8D, had the blood samples switched. He says that neither Willy nor Jefe deserve a woman like Sam and neither of them loves Sam the way he does.
Gustavo tells Duval that Angie has lost her memory.
Nic asks Sam and Willy to forgive him. He wanted to tell the truth before but he couldn’t. Willy replies that Nic did what he could. He is a child. It is the adults who don’t deserve to be forgiven.
D8D tells Willy and Sam that he knows he can never have Sam but he doesn’t want Willy to have her and that is why he did what he did.
Alex goes to the club to get the drugs. Miggy follows.
Génesis and Violeta have dug into the wedding cake. Violeta is all sad because she says that this is the kind of cake her mother makes.
Alex gets a fix. Evil drug guy doesn’t want her to leave but Miggy comes in and holds him at gunpoint.
Willy tells D8D that the doesn’t know about love except for love for himself. D8D tells Sam that she will never be happy with Willy. Willy says that D8D had better leave. Willy wants to kill him but he has two children to take care of. D8D leaves. Willy tells Sam that he wasn’t wrong, his skin wasn’t wrong, she is his love, his life, his woman. Sam asks him to forgive her for not listening to her heart. Her fear blinded and paralyzed her but she looked in his eyes and was dying of love. She says that she will never stop loving him for a second for the rest of her life. What must she do to get his forgiveness? Nothing, says Willy and they kiss. Willy tells Sam that Lorena’s baby is a girl - another Sam.
D8D accuses Nic of being a traitor after D8D gave him the house. Jefe defends his son and D8D replies that the only good thing about what happened is that Jefe is going to have serious problems with Sam.
Evil drug guy’s henchmen beat up Miggy.
Gustavo begs Duval not to tell anyone about Angie. He aludes to whatever happened to make him leave the police.
Violeta asks JM to order more cakes from the place that made the cake for the wedding. They remind her of her mother whom she misses so much. JM asks Peralta to find out who made the cake for Sam’s wedding. If that person makes cakes like Angie, he wants to meet her.
Sam tells Jefe that she has lost all the admiration and respect she had for him.
In spite of being beaten to a pulp, Miggy manages to escape from evil drug guy with Alex.
Lorena says that she is sure Willy that he will leave her for Sam. Willy replies that he would never do anything to harm her or the baby.
Gustavo asks for time to consult with Angie’s doctor. Duval says that Gustavo is in love with Angie and he admits it. Duval leaves. Angie tells Gustavo that she saw the same man at the party that she saw on Gustavo’s computer. She thinks she knows him. Gustavo replies that he is trying to protect her from any harm.
Federico, the Reptile’s lawyer, comes to see JM. He tries and fails to elicit any sympathy from JM about the Reptile’s problems in prison. Then he sends regards to JM from his wife, Renata.
Sam tells Jefe that he deceived her and took advantage of her. Jefe pleads his love for her but Sam says that she won’t forgive him.
Miggy tells Alex that she has to go to rehab.
Sam tells Nic that Willy is going to stay at the house with Lorena but Jefe is leaving. Nic asks if the Willy and Sam are going to be together and Sam says that she is married to el Jefe and Willy says that he is engaged (?), comprometí, to Lorena. Nic says that he spoke up too late.
Willy and Sam go to the prison to see the Reptile. The Reptile says that she loves her papi and appears to be going crazy.
D8D swears revenge against everyone who messed up his plan. He tells Ofelia that she will help him.
Duval calls Gustavo and says that he can’t conceal the fact that Angie is alive.
JM figures out that Federico’s legal strategy is to say that the Reptile is crazy. Of course, this can’t be because he is a good lawyer. It’s because of some relationship JM had with his wife.
Sam and Willy come to see Miggy to tell him that he will have an honorary niece. He tells them that he stole Sam’s toothbrush and had a DNA test done and the results show that he is her brother. Sam, Angela and Miggy are the three children of Miguel Valdéz.
I guess now that the incest storyline is over, the writers didn't want to waste any time dealing with the "Sam is the child of Miguel Valdez" story so they have Miggy get a DNA test that he conveniently doesn't get the results for until after the wedding. He gets the results in a text message! No going to a clinic and opening envelopes with all that drama.
Brilliant recap Jean! I am so glad that the incest storyline is done, buried and over. The writers were toying with us for a bit, having Nic lock himself in a room with no further explanation, having Sam and Willy distracted by fainting Lorena (what stress is she under exactly?), and then having the guard hang up on Nora before she got the story out. But in the end, they really pulled through and gave us a great episode.
So it seems that JM isn't sure about who he saw. *sigh*
Can I say how annoyed I am at Dummy Duval. He sees Angie and his first instinct is to lock her up! Not to appologize for being such an ass and making false accusations that landed her behind bars and separated her from her kids and family. Sheesh! Can someone bump him off please?
Excellent recap Jean, and excellent point about the DNA test. They wasted so much time on the silly incest storyline and then missed such an interesting important situation!!
Where is Cecilia? I missed her!
Great recap, Jean. So they wrapped up the incest thing, but of course, Sam and Willy STILL can't get together, because Sam is married to Esteban and Willy is "committed" to Lorena. To me, if Lorena agreed to be the carrier of Sam and Willy's baby, she should a) stay in town, b) not be emotionally involved and c) not have to have Willy "commit" to her. (Actually, she should be committed, if you know what I mean).
We have 2 new mysteries. First, what happened in Gustavo's past, which Duval knows about, and which made him leave the police force? Second, what happened between JM and Federico's wife Renata?
Speaking of Federico, I think his insanity defense of the Reptile really is aimed at getting her released. And knowing these novelas, and their complete disregard for the real legal system, I wouldn't be surprised if Fernanda is a) judged not guilityh by reason of insanity, b) sent to an insane asylum, and c) escapes from it. Why not?
Pedro and Julio Montoa are mad that Guillermo Cano keeps slamming them in the papers. Pedro wants revenge. Julio says at least wait until you’re out of jail.
Marcos calls Pablo, do something! Stop that Colonel (Jiménez). Pablo tells him he has other priorities.
Jiménez breaks down the wall of Marcos’ house, and finds millions in cash.
Regina visits Niki at El Espectador. Don’t get the wrong idea about me and Escobar. I was just meeting with him to arrange for him to “come to an accord with justice”. Right.
Judge Zuluaga receives an envelope. Inside is some money, and the words “last chance”. He goes on TV, is interviewed by Regina, says I won’t stop my investigation even though I’ve received death threats.
Pablo assures Regina he’s going to respect the laws of Colombia and not do anything rash. Right.
Pedro’s out of jail free!
Guillermo and Luis meet with Jiménez. The Colonel’s phone rings, the voice says you’re dead unless you lay off of Marcos.
Chili and the “mole” pull guns on the car which is providing security for Magistrate Zuluaga. Don’t move a muscle. The Judge tells his wife, we’re almost ready to indict Escobar. They get into their car, pull away, wonder why their security isn’t right behind them. Maybe they got stuck at a traffic light? Maybe not. A moto zooms up, assault rifles crackle, and the judge is hit many times. I’m not sure he’s dead (he’s hustled into another car by friends), but he probably is. Noooo!
Pablo and Gonzalo have a new scheme. They can hide drugs in the emergency floatable seats of airplanes. After the planes land, the cleaning crew (their men) take them right out. Pablo tells Gonzalo, you know, we bandits are always one step ahead of the cops. Each time they get closer, we come up with something new. It’s just simple mathematics. They’ll never stop the flow of cocaine.
In Bogotá, an esteemed judge opens up a letter, the US is requesting extradition for all the members of the cartel. Next day, all their faces are on page one of the paper. Pablo is mad! He calls Colonel Pendregal to his ranch, what’s up with your protecting us? Isn’t that money I’m sending enough? Look, says Pendregal, I like the money, and we’re trying, but you’re too hot. You guys should leave Medellin for a while. Maybe we should says Pablo, as the mole observes. But in the meantime, we need it to rain blood! Mariachi agrees, let’s start with Guillermo Cano. Not again!!!!!!
great recap Jean !!!
I had to laugh, watching D8D and Jefe, standing side by side in the doorway, getting the news that it was all Fernanda's fault, yea, that's what happened.
they beat up Miguel so bad, I was wondering if he was dead,
glad to see him jump up and give Dante something to remember him by, before he left.
Miguel seems to be playing the whole Alejandra thing with reserve,
(plus this is a month later, she should be clean),
and I miss all of his other girl friends.
love Cecilia's, let's get this started, leap, landing her and Miguel in bed,
and the way Miguel was ready for it last time.
sounds like the great Bernardo will be showing everyone how great he really is,
as if anyone cares,
it seems that the tide has turned for him,
which makes him all the more dangerous.
getting back to the DNA thingy,
no one ever tested Nico to see if he is indeed Willy and Sammy's son,
nor one of Bernie to confirm he was Sammy's, or for that fact anyone's, dad
I'm liking how Camilo is slowly losing his clown look,
and blonde hair,
and is really stepping up in the gentleman department,
he was looking very dashing last night.
I'm curious about Renata.
oh yea,
what's the deal with Nora?
I really like her.
(and the actress, Alba Roversi, is so great to watch)
but when do we get to hear her story,
and why is she in jail in the first place,
and why does no one care.
ya, ya, for the stories sake she needs to be there now,
as the straight man in the reptile/mom comedy team,
and why doesn't the Reptile realize that the next time she molts,
the scar will probably be gone,
or that beauty is only skin deep,
oh yea, the only beauty she might have, is only skin deep.
(actually I'm really liking Aylin Mujica in a role where she is not under dressed,
where her acting shines above all,
she really is a tremendous actress)
Fabiola who?
Deb wrote- "...the next time she molts the scar will probably be gone." LOL on that one!
In addition to the mysteries Hombre mentioned, we still have not seen Fabiola and Rodrigo so lots more to come.
Thanks, Jean. Great recap.
I am fed up with Lorena. She makes this big sacrificial move to give Willy and Sam a child. And, ever since, she's done nothing but whine. I can't stand the "poor me" expression on her face half the time. Camilo deserves a LOT better. Let's see. If Miggy manages to get Alex straightened out, this would leave super-cute Cecilia available for Camilo.
NOW Dummy Duval decides to be a good cop! Vivi, you and I are on the same page. Maybe he can be sent into the Luna Azul nightclub and be shot during a drug bust!
When Gus said "You more than anyone knows why I quit the force", Duval looked down as if ashamed. There's some crap he probably pulled in the past.
Willy said the perfect thing to Nicolás about his being a child and not responsible for any of this. And then embraced his son. I think Nic's hero worship of his adoptive father is fading and his appreciation of Willy is growing.
I can't believe Esteban had the brass cojones to beg Samantha to forgive him. Hopefully the divorce lawyer he found for Sam can do a two-fer at a discount. And they'd BETTER reveal his planting cameras in Sam's apartment at some point!
I knew the minute Fernanda showed up with that odd look on her face and made that papí remark that, when she and Federico, the sleazy lawyer, had talked they'd cooked up an insanity defense.
Hombre, I'm sure you're right. She'll be declared incompetent, escape from the loonybin, and try to kill a half dozen more people.
Good one, Deb, on the molting comment!
FREE NORA!!!
Great recap, Hombre! Escobar lies whenever he opens his mouth. He tells Regina he's going to let the law take its course. And then Zuluaga gets shot.
What's up with the mole? He draws suspicion to himself creeping closer to hear what the members of the Medellín cartel are saying. And, then he is part of an assassination attempt on a judge, helping Chili subdue the judge's guards. Surely, cooperating in this murder (or attempted murder - we don't yet know) removes any "breaks" he might be going to receive for cooperating with the federal police.
deb, loved your comments! "Cecilia's, let's get this started, leap, landing her and Miguel in bed" the scene that I miss the most!^^
I'm not sure if Cecilia with Camilo would be as cute as with Miguel. Miguel and Cecilia have great chemistry. By the way it seems Lorena is the only reason we have Camilo in the show. They killed Luis and now they don't know what to do with the actor.
congratulations to the USA women's soccer team,
for winning the gold,
in a match just over with Japan, 2-1
(none of the women's matches were shown on over-the-air tv)
the men's soccer gold medal match will be early saturday morning
Mexico vs Brazil
and may be broadcast by Telemundo
(the USA men's team did not make the cut to be in the Olympics this year).
FREE NORA!!! If only.
Okay, here's my scenario: Reptile gets plastic surgery to fix her scar, only she has her whole face changed, a la Humphrey Bogart in "Dark Passage", so no one recognizes her when she escapes from prison. Muahahahah...
I love everybody's comments and agree that it's a relief to be done with the incest storyline. But notice how the bodycount has droppped off drastically over the last couple of weeks? (Except for the scarface prisoner).
Rosa Diamante
I don't see too many comment on this one, but have watched it a few times and I really like the main actress.
J in Oregon
I am watching "Rosa Diamante", but not commenting regularly. I like the Rosa/Eva character because she is smart and cunning, especialy when dealing with her relatives (I don't yet consider them family - they have yet to truly bond with her). I am interested to see the diretion Veroni takes with the story. So far we have a smart protagonist. I hope the story does not desinigrate into mush as many tns do. I would also like to see Sofia's character challenge her blackmailer and work with Rosa/Eva to really repair the damage to Venus and become a powerful force against JI. He is softening to Rosa/Eva and she is weakening. I'd rather see a more antagoinistic relationship between them until more plot lines are fully developed. I think Rosura is beginning to warm/respect Rosa/Eva, but is terrified her "secreto" will be revealed. There is a lot of intrique here. I just hope it does not get formulaic. JMHO
SFchicabonita
SF Chica: I didn't see the first 2 weeks, was determined not to get committed to two Novelas. But, even though the storyline seems unoriginal (rich manipulative old lady, poor granddaughter who has been disinherited, etc etc) I do find the character of Rosa very interesting. Not a victim or a pushover.
So will likely keep watching.
:o)

In rapid-fire fashion, Miggy explains to Sam and Willy how he took Sam’s toothbrush to get the DNA test because Nora was so sure that Sam and Willy were not hermanos. Sam asks him about the earlier test that showed that Sam and Angie weren’t sisters and he assures her (without any knowledge or evidence) that that was a trap, i.e., the results were falsified. Willy says that this news would be perfect if Angie were alive so Sam and Miggy tell him that Angie is alive.
Duval is about to tell JM about Angie when he gets a call from Gustavo. Apparently, Duval killed a fellow officer by mistake and Gustavo resigned from the police department because he knew the truth and helped cover it up. Gustavo threatens to reveal this information if Duval tells JM about Angie. Duval doesn’t tell JM.
Nora tells the Reptile that she knows she isn’t crazy. The Reptile does a self pity jag about how Willy has his true love and one, soon to be two children and she has nothing. Nora denies that and says that the Reptile has her.
Willy is adamant that JM should be told about Angie. Sam and Willy argue that Angie’s mental state is fragile and it wouldn’t be a good idea.
Why on earth would Nic ever listen to a word D8D told him much less be alone with the guy? But he does and D8D tries to poison his mind against Willy saying that Sam deserves someone better, etc. Barf.
Federico comes to see the Reptile and tells her that he is defending her not only for the $$ that D8D is paying him.
Willy sees Jefe’s assistant fiddling with a small wireless camera and immediately recognizes it as the same kind that Miggy found in his and Sam’s apartment.
Sam and Miggy come to the bakery to see Angie and they catch her kissing Gustavo.
Willy accuses el Jefe of planting the spy cameras and they get into a fight on a balcony. Somehow, Lorena manages to go over the balcony railing and Willy (where was Esteban?) is able to keep her from falling.
Angie tells Sam that she and Gustavo are novios.
Lorena tells Willy that she doesn’t want to come between Sam and Willy. Willy comforts her. Nic sees them embracing and remembers D8D’s words about Willy not deserving Sam.
Peralta has located the bakery where the wedding cake came from. He is surprised to find Sam and Miggy there. Sam tells him that she gave Angie’s cake recipes to the woman who makes the cakes and that is why they seem like Angies. They tell him that they are at the bakery paying for a cake to celebrate the news that they are hermanos.
Gustavo goes to see Duval. Duval tells him that for the time being he won’t reveal the truth about Angie. Gustavo replies that too many people know about Angie and he thinks that JM should be told because Angie is his woman, not Gustavo’s.
Willy tells Sam that it was Esteban who installed the spy cameras. Eventually, he admits it and claims that he was doing it to protect her. Naturally, Sam doesn’t buy that and she tells Esteban that she is going to have the marriage annulled and Esteban has to leave the house.
Alex tells Miggy that Camilo looked familiar. Miggy figures out that she is remembering the Rat and asks her to try and recall any information about his activities. Alex says that the Rat was Dante’s (evil drug guy) supplier.
Angie tells Gustavo that she doesn’t want to know any more about her past. She wants to start from zero with him.
The Reptile is waited on hand and foot at the prison. She asks if Nora would like her to kill D8D for her when she gets out. Then she has some kind of attack and says that she is dying. Did the other prisoner poison her?
Miggy goes to see Duval and offers him information to capture a bad guy in return for his not sending Angie back to prison.
Lorena leaves the ex-D8D house to live in Sam’s apartment. (Where is Arturo?)
The departure of Esteban from Nic’s house has put him in a dilemma. Who will he have live there with him? Willy and Sam or Esteban? He chooses Sam but only Sam. He doesn’t want Willy there. Nic says that he saw Willy hugging Lorena and tells what D8D says. Willy asks if he is going to believe D8D who had a sinister plan to separate him and Sam. He tells Nic that he has a lot of affection for Lorena and you hug people that you have affection for. He says that Sam is the love of his life and he isn’t leaving her.
False Fabiola (I can’t remember her name) comes to tell Miggy something important. He isn’t there and she tells Alex that it was thanks to her that she and Alex are together. Alex tells her to leave and then finds some drugs.
The Reptile is ok (big surprise). It was another inmate who put something in her food. Nora says that she will make the other prisoner pay and the Reptile says not to bother - she will kill all of them. D8D shows up. Apparently, he hoped to find her dead. He tells her that thanks to what he calls the treachery of Nora, Sam and Willy are back together.
And so they are. Nora tries to strangle D8D. He says that she can’t kill him because she loves him. He can’t understand why she hooked up with someone else. Nora replies that she did it because she loves him. Okaay.
Gustavo comes to see JM about a woman. Miggy calls JM to tell him about him and Sam. Miggy’s call is interrupted when Alex staggers in foaming at the mouth (not a good sign). Sam and Willy show up at JM’s. JM is called outside just in time to come face to face with Angie.
Camilo has made a nice breakfast for Lorena when the police come and arrest him.
The promos says that Friday’s episode will be the gran final of an “etapa” of Corazón Valiente.
Yes, Judge Zuluaga is dead. At his funeral, we see Jiménez, Luis and Guillermo. Very sad.
A general praises Jiménez, but says he's being promoted, sort of for his protection. Jiménez wants to stay on the case.
Enelia isn't happy with the extradition news. She tells Pablo she knows he's not a killer (!), but he should leave town. Yes, Ma, he says. Paty, pack the bags!
Niki interviews some supreme court guy who explains that there might not be extradition, maybe Colombia would get Pablo first (not sure about this).
Jiménez talks to the mole on the phone. The mole says something big's happening tomorrow, but I want the money first.
Regina meets with Pablo out on the road. I'm not your novia, I'm not your advisor, and stop bringing me here, she says. Pablo tries to bribe her driver.
Pablo presents two new assassins to the cartel. There's El Marino, a big guy, sure of himself, and El Coco, a bald, thick strong man, who was brought there blindfolded. The mission - kill Jiménez.
The General gives Jiménez money to pay the mole, saying we don't normally do this. Be careful.
Chili sends the mole on a mission with Coco. The mole doesn't want to go, but of course he has to. In the jeep, Coco says we're going to kill Jiménez. Coco knows all of Jiménez's habits, his personal life. The guys in Bogotá have totally scoped him out.
Pablo hires another new contact, I think he's Ramala. Pablo says the Nicaraguan connection isn't working, so we're going through Cuba. This is Ramala's job.
At the airport, Jiménez is dressed in civilian clothes. Bad Colonel Pedregal meets with him, says you're making a mistake, we can't protect you. Jiménez says what are you talking about, I'm just going on a family vacation.
The mole gets out of his car and waits in a park. Jiménez gets out of his taxi, but sees people watching, tells the mole "not here." They meet in a more isolated area. Jiménez gives the mole the money. Okay, mole, what is the big plan coming down? The big plan? To kill YOU!!!!
Where is everyone going to be on Labor Day Weekend?
Since I'm out of work I'll be around and if most of you are around we can continue our discussion of novela cliches and what we would do if we were writing novelas.
I will cross-post this in the other discussions and if most of you are around we can have that discussion then.
Thanks, Jean, another great recap full of your dry wit. This was a watershed episode, if someone missed this, they could really be confused. I missed an episode a few months ago in which Luis was killed and the spy cameras were found, among other things. I'm still not over that.
That was funny when Natalia came to the door to confront Alex. Maybe Cecelia will show up next. But it was a bit dumb for Miggy to leave Alex alone. She had made him a candlelight dinner, and he just walked out, saying he'd be back soon. This is not how you keep a drug addict from relapsing. Miggy should also realize that telenovela characters never have any hobbies, so if they're not poisoning someone, killing someone, or having a deep conversation with someone, there's really nothing to do BUT drugs. Just kidding.
It may be that the guy whom Miggy is going to deliver to Duval is Dante.
So tonight is the gran final of an important phase of the show. Okaaay.
J in Oregon/SFchicabonita - I look forward to this show every night like a love-sick puppy. I don't comment much either, but as I've said in previous posts, Rosa/Eva is wonderful. When it comes to JI, her tongue cuts like a knife. 'just love the tension b/w them. and thank heavens she hasn't given in to him yet. the woman is pure spunk!
Excellent recap, Jean!!!
That scene with JM and Gus was a telenovela classic, right out of the TN writers manual. A character is about to tell another character a piece of amazing news, but gets interrupted and our hopes are deflated like a balloon. In this case it was dueling cell phones keeping Gus from telling JM about Ángela, not to mention Emma showing up to say JC had vomited all over something.
I don't know if it's the actress' delivery or the lines themselves, but Lorena's facial expressions when she says she won't interfere between Willy and Sam are so petulant and self-pitying that I could barf.
I wonder if El Jefe's other deeds will come to light; such as, making up a fake threat to her life by some mafioso and putting her in the loony bin?
I am VERY curious about what they are accusing Camilo of doing. He's been so saintly all the way through.
Alex's drug thing was weird. I thought she'd been snorting cocaine. But Miggy said something about her having injected a drug. They definitely have me guessing about whether Miggy and Alex will make it; i.e., she goes to rehab and all is well. Or whether Cecilia ends up with him.
I'm not sure what they mean about a nueva etapa unless they're going for a time jump to Lorena ready to deliver the baby. Or Ofelia's long-lost son shows up. Or...
I certainly hope Willy doesn't leave Sam because of the words of a confused boy.
Hombre, I was also thinking that Miggy is cleverly bargaining to keep his sister safe and achieving another goal: Dante goes down! And I know the writers had to have Alex hit bottom, but it was extremely thoughtless of Miggy to run out on a woman who'd prepared a romantic dinner.
Unbelievable. D8D could be D9D if I could think of another "D" adjective. He comes to the prison and tells his daughter he was hoping she'd died? Really?
J in Oregon and Shallowgal: Glad you are sticking with this one. I like Rosa/Eva. Hopefully she will stay spunky. We need a few spunky females every now and then.
