Por ella soy Eva #16 8/7/12: Things Never Turn Out the Way You Expect

Ezra wasn't available to recap tonight, so La Paloma stepped up to the plate. Thank you, LP, for the great recap.

Here's a summary, complete with jerky transitions and some items possibly out of sequence. Feel free to add details or corrections as you observed.

Helena is being comforted by Lucia as she grieves for JC. Then, Helena spends time with Lalito, telling him of JC’s death and explaining his feelings of love will stay in his heart. Back at Lucia’s apartment, Helena remembers her good times with JC.

At JC’s home, his mother tells his disbelieving father about JC’s visit. They are shown at the funeral in the cemetery, along with many of JC’s grieving friends, GI associates, and former lovers. At the end of the funeral, Helena lingers near the tomb, holding a single white rose. Her heartfelt speech to JC is interrupted as numerous past lovers, wearing chic black dresses and teary faces, swarm the tomb. A dismayed JC, wearing shades and a hoodie, lurks behind a tree. Pluto catches up to Helena as she leaves, making a clumsy apology to her and saying the duplicate projects could have been a coincidence. His efforts only anger Helena further.

At GI, Adriano addresses a staff meeting, saying JC is dead and buried, and he never wants to hear his name mentioned again. Pluto is now the only VP, handling both finance and operations. He’ll be in sole charge and make whatever changes necessary. Pluto tells Santi and Fern they still have jobs and need to get cracking on the Playa M project, immediately. That night, at home, Pluto is desperately trying to decipher the project. Toni slinks in, showing off her negligee, with no results. She comments that what he’s telling her is not the same as her thesis, which he brushes off. He also brushes her off, telling her to go make a snack.

Helena is sitting with Silvia, crying about JC. Bastardo Eduardo comes in, criticizes and threatens Helena with taking custody of Lalito away from her. Lalito comes in to display his teeth and be tucked into bed. Helena takes him out of the room, as the commander grandfather barks out a sharp military cadence.

JC is searching for a place to stay and sees rooms for rent in an attractive pension. Mimi, the owner/landlady, is a friendly singer and all-around showbiz type. She’s also a skilled makeup artist and runs the pension on the side.

Helena finds Lucia in tears, with her boyfriend Santiago as the cause. Lucia thought they were headed for a serious relationship, but the wedding invitation in Santi’s car revealed that she was only his pre-ceremony warm-up booty call. Helena is determined to avenge Lucia’s heartbreak, and she heads out to interrupt the wedding ceremony. As we see the bride and groom at the altar, we realize Lucia’s ho-dog Santi and JC’s buddy Santi are one and the same.

Thanks, Paula!

OK, so I was wrong about Eduardo not wanting to deal with Silvia's active role. He more or less acknowledged it tonight. It's just that he doesn't feel obligated to react in a rational manner because nobody's going to challenge him no matter how much of a $#@% he is, apparently.

I don't have much more to say tonight, except:

1. Waaaaaaaah
2. I loved that Paty Navidad got in a couple of nods to her LFMB role.
3. Helena's a great kisser!

Sorry, I meant "active role in deciding to mortgage the house" (as opposed to being a helpless victim of crafty Helena's manipulation).

Thanks so much Paula for putting his up. I'm so with you Julie about Bastardo. He has reached way beyond his limit with me.

I liked the funeral of JC. Poor Ferni he took it really hard. The Putz is so going to fall on his face. I can't beleive Adriano gave Putz the VP position. He's already screwing it up, cause he doesn't have a clue about the Playa project. I am glad Helena blew him off.

I am liking Pay Navidad already. She is very sweet, I never watched LFMB but I see the pic of Betty on the wall. So cute. What was that with the shushing thingy? Is it a secret that she does makeup to the stars or what? Wonder if she ever worked with Eugenia maybe?

Julie, Eva hasn't aired yet here. Your list of three items for tonight's show is an enormous tease! Maldita sea!

I reviewed last night's show to nail down a few details. One fun thing I discovered. In typical TN style, Pluto proclaimed his own destruction - the classic unwitting foreshadow.

Pluto: The scorpion will get the punishment he deserves.
Toni: No more immunity?
Pluto: After the melt-down/disaster (quemón – a huge fire) that he caused in the company, there is a worse quemón awaiting him.

Heh heh heh. I figured it wouldn't be spoiling because people don't have to look at the new post before they've seen the episode... but at the same time I didn't want to give away any specifics.

As for Pluto, his little fire metaphor last night was perfect, because he's already feeling the heat. He's in waaaaay over his head, and he knows it. No doubt he'll continue being a putz for many months to come, but he'll be running on fumes the whole time. (I hope I mixed enough metaphors in there for everyone.)

So much for not having any more to say tonight!

I can attempt a recap, if no one else has one underway already?
La Paloma

Thank you so much La Paloma for your great recap. Now I have Paty Navidad's name. I like her, very funny and sweet. JC and she will make a great team. Can't wait for the transformation to begin.

I just knew the Bastardo would attempt to take Lalito away from Helena. I hope a female judge puts him in his place, that would be great justice, jus' sayin'.

I wonder if Helena will stop the wedding. She is so pithed by now she will really give Santi what for. Poor Lucia and Helena they are in the same boat.

Thank you Paloma!

I had a serious LFMB flashback when Mimi introduced herself as an aspiring actress, aspiring singer, and aspiring model. LOL! I hope she has more luck than Alicia Ferreira did!

About the wedding... I could be wrong about this... but I think Lucia's boyfriend's name is Sebastian. Helena grabbed "the" wedding invitation out of that box, but the camera showed us there was another invitation still in the box. I think Helena grabbed the wrong one!

A couple of small additions: Before being named sole VP, Pluto asks Adriano again about those shares he wanted. Adriano says something like, we can talk about that after you finish the Playa Majagua project.

So for like five minutes it looks as though Adriano is being cautious with Pluto. But then he practically hands him control of the company anyway by letting him be a double-VP. Genius.

Also: Helena is propositioned during a job interview. The guy indicates that she's a single mother and desperate and therefore she'll do anything for her child. He asks her for one little kiss. She gives it to him. With her knee.

I can't remember if that was before or after Pluto tried to make nice with her, but either way you can kind of see why she rushed off to that wedding loaded for bear.

Madelaine - I sure hope you're right about Bastardo getting smacked down by a judge.

Yes, Julie, Helena is interrupting the wrong wedding. But we all knew Santiago wouldn't marry Patti, considering how distressed he looks every time he calls her.

Predictions. I see one romantic pair on the horizon, but now I recall it was mentioned in the character sketches, so it would be unfair to post it here. But here's another one I predict, that wasn't mentioned so it's fair game. Adriano & Mimi. What do ya' think?

I was hoping that Juan's "death" would make some of the characters question their judgements against him. e.g. Adriano thinking, "Maybe I was wrong. Maybe he really was innocent." We don't see that yet, but tonight, based on what Lucía said ("I really believe you were the love of his life"), Helena is speculating that maybe, possibly, that Juan started with a deception but ended up falling in love. Wouldn't that be a refreshing change - a TN sweet young thing who considers that maybe, possibly the galán is not an evil monster.

I just moved La Paloma's recap from the replies section to the body of the actual blog post.

Julie, I'm glad you're there, sweeping up behind me. I stopped taking notes before the end and it showed.
Sorry if I got confused and mixed up the two grooms' names.
La Paloma

Dang I love this show! Monday's cap didn't advance the plot, but maybe that was a breather to "change horses," and now the plot is galloping along again!

The addition of Mimi is going to be a blast! Patti Navidad is a great actress and an awesome comedian. Watch carefully for her and Camil to depart from the script and start improvising. She's the only person I've seen who can measure up to him when the improv starts rolling. In fact, in tonight's show she said, “I’ve always improvised, and it has worked very well for me” - maybe that was a tip of the hat to what's in store for us.

Did you notice? TWICE tonight, Antonia was surprised about her husband's project - once when she noticed it bore no resemblance to her thesis, and again when he didn't know the name of the hotel or his contacts. She has a gift for snooping out the truth. How long until her curiosity about Pluto's inconcistencies blossoms into full-grown suspicion?

Thanks so much la Paloma for jumping in and helping recap. Much appreciated.

"She comments that what he’s telling her is not the same as her thesis, which he brushes off. He also brushes her off, telling her to go make a snack" Nice juxtaposition there, la Paloma. Very clever.

Just saw the last few moments and had no idea why Helena was marching into the wedding with fire in her eyes. But I do now.

And looking forward to the Paty Navidad-Jaime Camil improvisational sparks, that Paula told us to expect.

Paloma, the grooms' names were an easy thing to mix up. I really wasn't sure of Lucia's bf's name at first, because I hadn't been paying any attention to her storyline. Then Lucia started talking about how he was getting married today and I thought the same as you - holy crap, she's marrying Santiago!! But when Helena took off with one envelope and left the other behind, I got suspicious and played it back.

I was really impressed with Antonia last night. I missed a minute or two though - did Pluto try to get her to eat something she didn't need? I thought I heard him talking about greasy food. I'd prefer Antonia didn't go to the hospital again; but, seriously, Pluto needs to find a way to keep her out of his hair because this is going to be a very short story if she continues making insightful observations (something her brother is woefully incapable of doing).

I have an idea for Pluto. How about, in his (hopefully fruitless) efforts to tempt Antonia with unhealthy foods, he ends up eating himself into a health crisis?

Mimi and Adriano? Not a bad idea, if he's astute enough to notice her awesomeness. From what I've seen of his girlfriends, though, Mimi might be too old for him. ;-)

Julie

I really like how Antonia is developing - she's not just the victimized fat girl. I've noticed that ever since she threatened to divorce Pluto, he's been more attentive. In the beginning he'd come home late, stay 10 minutes, then leave for an emergency "business meeting." And he'd keep her from even touching him. Now he's home much more and he allows her to hug him, though he makes faces. That divorce threat shortened his leash - he got his first lesson that her tolerance has limits. Still he thinks she's a total imbecile, and underestimating her will be his downfall.

I'm going to enjoy Mimi's character, but Caray! She's hard to understand! She talks fast, uses her Sinaloa accent (that's where she's from), and uses a lot of non-standard Spanish. When she talked about Peggy Sue last night, I caught enough words to get the gist of the story. When I went back and read the CC's, I discovered that my gist was COMPLETELY wrong - it bore not the slightest resemblance to what she said!!!

About Mimi & Adriano: They're a kite and a string. A kite without a string crashes. A string without a kite just lies on the ground in a heap.
