Por ella soy Eva #23 8/17/12: Eva Gets Fired and Hired On The Same Day; Pluto Starts The Seduction of Helena

We start this recap with Rebeca in Pluto's office wanting to know why the hey he is helping Helena all the time. She isn't happy.

Meanwhile Eva is in Helena's office and Helena is pithed. Helena doesn't like the intrution of Eva in her personal life, she told her that already. Helena is kind of mean to Eva. Eva tells her she talked to Lalito and he misses JC pretty badly, he thought of him as a papa, and wanted him to be part of the family with he and Helena. Helena doesn't want to hear it. She wants to let Eva go, but Helena says she'll think about it and in the morning will give Eva her decision.

Santiago is at Patti Bebe's house and her family is gathered; they have the champagne out and Santiago is stumbling and bumbling and trying to get out that he is asking for Patti's hand again, when proprosal interruptus happens. And it's Ruh Roh, wait for it, a drunken Angelica calling from a bar. She tells Santiago to come meet her or she is killing herself. Now behind Santiago, Patti's whole family is listening to every word he is saying, and Santiago in turn keeps looking back and they pretend to be talking amongst themselves, too funny. This happens several times. Anyhoo, Angelica convinces Santiago she really will kill herself if he doesn't show, so he makes his excuses to Patti's family and tells them he has an emergency at work and goes to meet Angelica, as Patti is screaming Sanitago as he leaves.

Eva goes to Pluto's office I think, to return the CD and is found by one of the security guys. The guy wants to know what she is doing there. She makes some lame excuse and cries a bit and he feels bad. He tells her she shouldn't be in there and she needs to leave. She kind of playfully slaps his face and then goes. The security guy locks the door behind her.

Pluto takes Helena home and informs her that the Department of Tourism has dropped the embargo of the apartment /office and she can remove the seal they put on it, she can now use it again. Helena is very happy to hear this.

Fernando comes home from somewhere, a bar maybe, all disheveled and probably smelling of booze and he kind of sneaks into their house. When noone appears, he opens the door again and kind of slams it and it brings Marcela out. Fernando is mad at Marcela cause he thinks he wasn't her "first man". Marcela tries to convince him, they have been married, I think eighteen years and she has been his everything, his wife, his friend, his lover, thru thick and thin, you get the picture. Fernando really doesn't want to hear this and goes.

Santiago has made it to the bar where Angelica is at, and she is extremely drunk and dancing on the table. Santiago can see she ain't gonna kill herself. It was an excuse to lure him out. Anyhoo, he grabs her off that table and she is forcing drinks on him, going on and on about how she needs him, blah blah, he gives her the keys to his apartment and he goes back to Patti, which doesn't make Angelica happy.

Eva has made it home and she/he, now as JC sans wig, is talking to himself. He says he was so debonair, and suave and had all the ladies and just look what kind of guy he was. He is just happy to be near Helena, to work with her, but now all that is in jeopardy. He is very sad. I know he said more than this, if anyone wants to eleborate in the comments, feel free. It was a sad soliloquy.

Mimi and JC, now as his true self, are eating dinner and Mimi gives him his old cell phone, he is going to look in there for some proof about the fraud that was committed against him, by going thru it for the contacts he used to have.

We get a small scene of Maximillian Montes, the guy that fingered JC for the selling of info to the competition (Helena), and his girlfriend/wife, I didn't catch her name. Seems ole Max is a skirt chaser and she is pithed. He smoochies her and tells her she is the only one eva, so she decides to stay with him.

Pluto is now at home and Antonia greets him with smoochies, which Pluto so doesn't want, and tells him dinner will be ready soon. Pluto gets a call and it is wait for it, Rebeca of course, and she is in her tub and wants him to come join her toute de suite. This was a funny scene cause he is loudly talking about work, and then lowers his voice, and tells her, he can't come over, and by the way, neva, eva call him at home again. This is strictly forbidden, lol. She is none too pleased.

Santiago has made it back to Patti Bebe's house and I bet he is reeking of alcohol. He has had so many shots of tequila, I'm suprised he is still standing upright. Anyhoo, he finally gets back to the asking of the hand, non interruptus this time. Everytime he gets near anyone in Patti Bebe's family they are backing up, cause I am sure he reeks of tequila. Anyhoo, Patti accepts the proposal and holds out her hand for the ring, but oopsie, Santiago is frantically looking for that ring in his clothes. He can't seem to find it and starts crawling on the floor, on all fours, looking for that ring. Hysterical.

It's the next day and Pluto has gone to see Eduardo of all people. He wants his help. He impresses on Eduardo he needs his help to get Helena to go somewhere with him, it is important because she is a valued employee of G.I., in charge of the Playa Project. Eduardo, the Bastardo, can't understand why this company would put it's faith in his daughter, a women for goodness sake. She should be home taking care of her son, not working. Pluto disagrees and asks for his help again, after impressing on Eduardo the Bastardo, how important Helena is, and Pluto reaches out his hand to shake Eduardo's, who shock and awe, takes that hand and shakes it. Eduardo agrees to help Pluto!

Helena and Eva are in Helena's office and Helena has come to a decision about Eva. She tells Eva, so sorry, so sad, but you gotta go. Too much into my bidness, where you shouldn't have been, messing in my personal life, yada, yada, you're fired. Eva tries to tell Helena she is much like her, a single woman that needs to work. As a matter of fact, Eva tells her she has noone and work is her life. You can tell Helena is kinda/sorta feelin bad, but not bad enough to keep Eva around. Eva is very sad and goes.

Helena goes to Pluto and tells him she has let Eva go. He is kind of surprised but says its her decision. Helena asks him to consider hiring Lucia for the position just vacated by Eva. He says he'll think about it.

After Helena goes, Pluto runs into, wait for it, Eva of course. She wants Pluto to help her get her job back. She even gets on her knees and begs him. Then she poses against a window and tells him anything he wants, she'll do. He asks her anything, as he is looking her up and down. She says well ya know, not exactly everything. He says he will on the condition Eva takes Antonia to a spa she has been wanting to go to and Eva has to keep her gone all day. Eva agrees and gives Pluto a big ole hug, as she makes barfy faces behind his back lol.

Eva has gone by the front desk and engages Marcela in conversation. Marcela tells Eva she is kinda busy, cause she is doing a report for Fernando, cause he came in all drunk and couldn't do it. Marcela explains to Eva what happened with Diego years ago,and that now Fernando is mad at her. Eva says that Fernando is just jealous and that he loves Marcela very much. Eva says it's kinda sorta like a romance she had with someone years ago, and hasn't seen in years, although Eva would love to hook up with him again. Now there is Jaqueline, Vero, and Cindy at Marcela's desk and they are all ears about Eva's romance with this guy. They ask what this guy's name is. Eva tells them it was Maximilian Montes! Marcela remembers this is the guy that ratted out Juan Carlos. The girls promise to help Eva find this guy, so maybe she can "rekindle" this romance.

Now ole Rebeca is in Pluto's office dressed up like Little Red Riding Hood, all black dress and big red cape. She trying to seduce him, cause he hasn't spent much time with her, and she starts macking on him, when in the hallway, they hear Antonia coming to Pluto's office. She has been talking loudly. Well Pluto grabs Rebeca and shoves her under the desk, lol. So now Rebeca has to hear Pluto greet his wife, who wants him to go away with her to the spa and he says yeah, yeah sure, sure, and she wants a smoochy, poor thing has pursed her lips and is waiting for that kiss. He finally kisses her, and Rebeca is under that desk looking sick!

Pluto tells Helena he wants to take her somewhere. She wants to know where, he says its a surprise. Pluto takes her to Lalito's school and guess who walks out with Lalito, anyone, thats right, it's Eduardo the Bastardo. Lalito greets his Moms and Helena is highly suspicious. She wants to know what the heck is going on here. Pluto informs her that Eduardo helped him and that Pluto wants to take them to his ranch, that would be Lalito and Helena. Now Helena's radar for BS is working overtime. Eduardo admits he helped Pluto to plan this. Helena still doesn't like it,and Lalito really wants to go to the ranch. Pluto finally convinces Helena to come.

Pluto, Helena and Lalito are at the ranch. Lalito wants to go look at the horses. Helena allows him to go, and she and Pluto begin to talk. She is still suspicious about why Pluto took her to his ranch, when he is a married guy,and what is his wife thinking of all this. Now Pluto tells Helena it was all his wife's idea! She felt maybe Helena and Lalito needed to spend some quality time together, in light of what just happened with Lalito. Besides, Pluto tells her, he always follows his wife's orders (yeah as if)! Helena is impressed, but not that impressed, cause the next thing she asks Pluto is: Are you trying to have an affair with me!

ADVANCES:

Rebeca spies on Eva and Antonia on their spa day.

Antonia is holding a pic of her and Pluto and she is crying and saying Pluto is cheating on her!

This epi was an easy one, I have to say. Not much happened, but it was fun just the same. Since I never watch LFMB I don't know what scene Paula was referring to. Was the soliloquy the one? That was a fantastic scene, and I know I didn't get all of it. Please comment on what I missed.

Also the convo with Pluto and the Bastardo, Pluto mentioned something about Bastardo being in the military. I didn't get all of that either. I know Bastardo has a military background, but did he happen to mention what his job was?

I felt bad for Eva, being fired and rehired by Pluto of all people. That scene where Eva was posing against that window was too funny.

The Santiago fiasco was really funny. I laughed my a$$ off when he was on the cell phone and they pretended not to be listening, everytime he turned around, and Santi on all fours looking for that ring.

Good work.

I hope there is a major anvil with Eduardo's name on it. It still is getting to me that he thinks so little of his daughter.

Does anyone else think he hates her?

Hi Madeleine! Thanks a bunch. I missed quite a bit yesterday.

I did get Eduardo's rank in the military - teniente = lieutenant. Sounded like regular military service to me, he must have made a career of it. Pluto thanked him for his service to the country, yadda, yadda.

Helena was so mean to Eva. It's like she was furious that Eva found her son! And even more furious when she found out that Lalito confided in Eva. And wouldn't listen to Eva even when she explained she had to find a public phone. It was so funny when Helena hung up on Eva the first time she called to tell her she had Lalito. It seems Helena is lashing out at Eva in some kind of maternal jealousy since Lalito rejected her when Eva returned him, and then she finds out later that Lalito had confided in Eva too! I guess Helena is pretty insecure in her mother role. I think they were showing that Helena has her weak points and prejudices too in this epi.

Haven't watched this yet, and want to before enjoying your recap Madelaine, but thanks for doing double duty. You and SuperMarta are really troopers.

Thanks for the recap, Madelaine. "Proposal interruptus" - hahahaha! There was a lot in here that I missed. Like, I had no idea who Max and the woman were (that's what I get for watching half of ever episode with my back turned). Was the woman the same chick who seduced JC in front of the security camera in the first episode?

I do believe (but am not sure) that Pluto told Helena that HE paid the fine(s) on the travel agency/apartment. Did I hear wrong? This would deepen Helena's feeling of indebtedness to him. (So, maybe he's in lust with her, but is still taking the precaution of holding a few financial items over her head for safety's sake.)

What else JC also said was that now that he's literally been in a woman's shoes he is even more filled with admiration for how great Helena is. She can do all these great things - mother, busineswoman, etc. and still walk in those dagnabbed shoes. (Something like that. And there was even more.)

If I had to guess, I'd say Paula's "Fea moment" was when Rebeca was hiding under the desk while her secret boyfriend, Pluto, was leaving the office and making nice with a woman he can't stand. But JC's soliloquy is a good choice too. It'd be better with a sparkle pen, though.

Julie you are probably right about what Pluto said to Helena. I just got the part about it being free and clear again for her to move back into that place, the Tourism Board shut down. Thanks for the rest of JC's soliloquy. It was so touching for him to realize what it is really like to be a woman. I loved it!

I think Pluto, may be, actually be, wait for it, falling for Helena for realz. I know he is still scamming her, but he seems to be falling hard at the same time. The way he is with her, is so different the way he is with the other women, like say Rebeca. It may be the fact that Helena hasn't fallen for his BS yet, and won't sleep with him. She is unobtainable to him, which makes him want her more, I think.

Julie- I don't think it was the same woman, but she looked like her from behind. I thought the one he was making out in the hotel was younger. I know he screwed this one over too at one point and sending this Max guy to "rat" JC out was her revenge.

UA- I too think the Bastardo hates Helena. Maybe the person that stated awhile ago that he didn't have a son has something to do with it. He is just hateful.

Audrey-thanks so much for Eduardo the Bastardo's military info. I thought that is what he told Pluto but wasn't sure. Ya know, you are so right about Helena being mean to Eva, it was almost as if she had turned into Rebeca there for a sec. She was worse than the guys there for a minute. I think later, when Eva told her about having noone and working was the only thing she had, that's when Helena started to feel a little regret. After all, as Eva said, they are kind of in the same boat.

Thanks, Madelaine, for creating the recap for us. I was laughing during Santi's proposal scene and the family making like they weren't hanging on every word of the phone convo. I think Patti bebe was someone's bratty younger sister in another TN, but can't remember.

UA, it sure seems like Eduardo hates his daughter, not only for her very expensive failed wedding but for being female. He must resent not having a son.

Just look how easily Pluto can flatter and persuade Bastardo that Helena is important and needs time with Lalito. Never would he believe the same ideas if Helena suggested them.

Eva's soliloquy was quite pensive. Maybe she can bond with Antonia at the spa and find a way to keep working with Helena.

La Paloma

I can't wait for the sauna scene...

Whew...lot of action tonight. Hope the marital woes with our lovely receptionist get sorted out soon. I thought quite a lot happened, actually, and I certainly admire the Eva recappers because the conversation is fast and furious at all times.

Thought Helena's crankiness with Eva was a little overdone, but I suppose we need some cliffhangers in every episode...and it did set up a funny encounter with Plutarco and no doubt a funny spa scene to come.

Thanks again Madelaine.

Thank you for the recap Madelaine!

The Fea moment - I didn't think about the soliloquy or the under-the-desk moment. Good ideas! My Fea moment was when the homely new asst arrives at work and, outside the big orange building, she falls badly, has a wardrobe malfunction (shoes vs stockings), and things go flying. Julie - sparkle pen - too funny! You really are the queen of office supplies!

The main thing I got out of the soliloquy was essentially, "I thought the biggest sacrifice a man could make for a woman was to go to war or (I forget), but now I know, the biggest sacrifice is to walk in her tacones."

The travel agency - I think Pluto said it can't be a business, but it can be residential. It was Lucía's apt before the closure, so now Lucía and Helena can live in an apt instead of a dungeon.

Ed is retired army. He probably commanded lots of troops, and now he's a nobody. So Pluto laid it on thick, thank you for serving your country, important job, yada yada, and Ed ate it up, like the has-been high school quarterback 30 years later.

I went to bed last night feeling like the show had taken a turn for the stupid. First, Ed. With Juan, he was furious that his daughter would visit with a man - what a tramp! But now, Pluto, a married man, wants to take Helena for a day in the country, and Ed thinks that's just peachy! Never happen!

Second, Helena. She's furious that Eva would have the audacity to find her missing child. How dare you interfere in my personal life?? OTOH, Pluto decides that Helena needs more time with her son, talks to her dad behind her back, and takes her child out of school. And that's just peachy. A man destroyed Helena's life, so she keeps a woman at a great distance, but she lets a MARRIED man meddle A WHOLE LOT in her personal life. Never happen!

Lety's sparkle pen got many comments during the original LFMB airing - and I wasn't the first to mention it! I don't remember if Colombian Betty had one too. (I know she had a diary, just don't know if she had a sparkle pen.) Now, every time someone gives a long, introspective speech, I think of the sparkle pen.

I agree, Helena's behavior to Pluto and to Eva doesn't make much sense. But maybe Eva is reminding Helena of JC on some subliminal level and that's why H is reacting so poorly to her. Meanwhile, as far as Helena can tell, Pluto is the very soul of gallantry and courtesy.

And to be fair, she was not at all happy about Pluto's personal meddling when she discovered that he had gone to her father. I thought that was interesting. When she thought it was only Pluto, it was just a nice favor. Now that it's Pluto and Ed, it's a conspiracy against her!

Now, Ed's attitude about Helena going off with a married man: is it possible that he assumes that good, respectful Pluto wouldn't cheat? After all, with what happened at GI with JC and HElena's project, Ed probably sees Pluto as the innocent victim of guys like JC. Ed obviously thinks very little of single men, but maybe he thinks married men are trustworthy?

A couple more thoughts... I swear I'm trying not to be long-winded, but:

This episode brings up two pet peeves of mine: 1) you don't have to answer your phone every time it rings, especially when trying to secure your beloved's hand; and 2) if a crazy manipulative stalker lady is trying to get your attention, stop proving that her cheesy tactics are working. Santi should never have gone to that bar; he still could have walked out (unseen) when he saw her dancing on the table.

I wonder if chavinistic Santi knows that BOTH of his girlfriends (as well as his boss) are smarter than he is? I think he's still too frazzled to figure it out.

I have no sympathy for Ferni's pain. Didn't he ALSO overhear that Marcela regretted that he hadn't been her first? Diego is such a clown, Ferni must be terribly insecure to feel threatened by him.

Then again, isn't that where machismo and chauvinism come from? Trying so hard to keep people "in their place" on the assumption that if they don't keep them down, the people they've scorned will end up treating them the same crummy way that they've been treated because that's just how chauvanistic people see the world?

Eva lucked out with that security guy. Maybe he's not too bright, but at least he doesn't seem to be a jerk. And he's cute. We've got some female characters here who need new men, so I say, let's sign this guy up for some dates!

You know those reading tests from elem school? You read part of the story, and then you pick what happens next, A, B, C, or D. Well, here is Helena's test.
Story: Her child is lost. She drops everything to find him. She'll just die if anything happens to him. Then Eva finds Lalo. Does Helena:
A. Thank Eva profusely.
B. Realize that Eva is valuable and caring, and place more trust in her.
C. Give Eva the day off for going above and beyond the call of duty.
D. Fire Eva.
Helena, you flunk!

Helena's anger/coraje with Eva really, really bothers me. Her new asst made a few mistakes, but nothing to deserve the treatment she's getting from Helena. Why is Helena so angry at her? Why can Eva do nothing right in Helena's eyes? Why does she treat Eva like an enemy?

But reading your posts, something occurred to me. On one hand, Helena's still in love with Juan. On the other hand, as far as she knows Juan destroyed her for his own advantage, even when he knew her past and how vulnerable she was. All the terrible things in her life right now - losing her life's work, risking her mother's house, getting thrown out, Lalo rejecting her - all were caused by Juan.

Suddenly, the new asst swishes into her life. She's the same size as Juan, the same facial structure, pouring out the same pheramones, and with certain voice qualities that are the same. Something deep inside Helena connects Eva to Juan, and Helena is subconsciously redirecting all her rancor against Juan onto Eva.

Waddaya' think?

Julie, you posted the Juan/Eva projection theory while I was still writing. Great minds think alike!

Security guy - is he the guy we see in the intro, sitting behind a desk, necking with someone? If so, Julie, you'll get your wish.

Also, good analysis of the chauvanism. Like the Jim Crow laws of the south, or the laws about women in Muslim countries. They make the laws out of fear.

Paula- thanks for the added info. Now I see what Bastardo's real problem is. He IS a nobody, that's his problem! If he commanded troops he could lord it over everyone, that is why he is being so tyrannical at home.
You are right about Helena too. Helena doesn't seem to have any problem, really with the other women that work there, just Eva. I think Eva must be exuding something that Helena finds distasteful, but what I really think Helena's problem is, is that she and Eva are just alike, except in one aspect, Lalito.

Madelaine, are you saying that Helena feels threatened by Eva because Eva was able to bond with Lalito? Or do you think Helena sees something of herself in Eva that she doesn't like?

I've also wondered if Helena is just modeling the bad behavior she's seen in other executives, including Rebeca and all of the men. But you're right - her hostility is directed only at Eva. She's shown more patience with Mutt and Jeff than she has to Eva.

(Last week, Adriano said she couldn't fire someone who'd been there longer than her. Now she's firing the very first person she's allowed to fire. Is she drunk with power? Is she playing "kick the cat" her her assistant?)

Oh. D'oh. There's a Fea moment. Awkward assistant gets fired by impatient monster of a boss who won't listen to reason.

Do you still need someone for Thursday night?

Madelaine....wonderful job and I love the playfulness in your narrative, such as:

"After Helena goes, Pluto runs into, wait for it, Eva of course."

Eduardo/Bastardo is shaping up to be very dark indeed...as in perverse-dark. Really perverse-dark.

"Eva's" soliloquy was so very beautiful....what I could understand of it. I still have the tape and will look again to see if I can pull more out of it although my Spanish leaves a lot to be desired. But also, it was the heartfelt beauty in JC's face that said so much. He is such a good actor!

Tablet jefa, for this coming Thursday, yes, we need a recapper. Are you available? Are you able to post, or should I put up a post for you, and you can fill in the recap?

Bill has taken Thursdays, but he won't be starting until the FOLLOWING Thurs, 8/30.

Sure, I'm available this Thursday. I have read and enjoyed the blog for years since "La Fea Mas Bella", but I have never contributed.
Let me know how to post and I will try my best.

TJ, to create a blog post you need to be in the system. That's probably not worth the trouble for a one-shot stint. I'll create a blog post for you Thursday, and you can post your recap as a blog comment, just like you did today. Then I'll move your recap up into the main body of the blog post.

After you've done one recap, if you like it, e-mail the board mom, Melinama. Right now she recaps Eva on Mondays because we were short-staffed. She might be happy to let you take over Eva Mondays since she has a lot on her plate already.

Any questions?

Thank you, sounds like a plan. If my post on Thursday is okay, Mondays will be fine.

I was wondering if Helena's mistreatment of Eva was because she was the one employee she could stomp on - kind of pass the abuse down the ranks, so to speak. But maybe since her hostility is specific to Eva, it really is a subliminal reaction to Juan.

But I think she's also jealous that a) Eva found Lalito and b) that Lalito confided in Eva while at the same time publicly rejected her (his mother).

I also found Helena's acceptance of Pluto's help inconsistent with her other behavior towards male co-workers/bosses - but in the previews it looked like she starts voicing her suspicions.

Julie to answer your question it is both. Helena is mad at Eva I think, as Audrey said, Lalito confided in Eva, basically a stranger, rather than confiding in his Moms. Helena expects Lalito to confide in her when there is something wrong. Lalito is still processing his grief in losing Juan and Eva, being Juan, I think Lalito felt a kinship with and that's why he confided in Eva.

About why Helena is mad at Eva, they are the same. Think about it. Two women that have to work in order to live. Helena has been kicked out of her home, Juan/Eva charged with a fraud he didn't commit lost everything. Helena is living with a roommate, Lucia, Juan is living with Mimi, they both have to work, Helena to support Lalito and pay off that mortgage, Eva to have something to live on, and they actually both like to work. Right now it is the only thing that they truly have.

I also think that Helena sees some of herself in Eva too. Helena was eager to get someone to look at her Playa Project and Eva, since she "knows" all about the project is eager to help Helena anyway she can. Does this make sense? They are both go getters and Helena right now doesn't want to get close to anyone, especially at work cause they screwed her over there once before.

One additional idea re Helena: growing up with a father like Eduardo, she canot help but have autonomy issues. Only recently has she found the gumption to confront Eduardo, but there must be a big backup of anger that she projects on to others when they inappropriately get into her business. Also her big issue with her father is that he wants to take Lalito away from her, so again she has quite an overreaction to Eva. She wont even listen to her. Perhaps her reaction really belongs to her father.

One other comment. I've felt from the beginning that Pluto has fallen for Helena. It is more than lust. He spent a lot of time staring at her picture. In one episode he was daydreaming about her in his bed when Antonia came and wanted to know what he was thinking about. He avoided an answer by offering her food --wound up ordering 4 pizzas to placate her. Then when Lalito was lost and Helena was having a meltdown, there was a very subtle look that indicated to me that he liked the fact that she was so maternal and caring. Marcelo is really doing a great job with this part. I say he is definitely smitten. But he is still rotten to the core, and I understood when he went to speak to Eduardo what he also said was that Helena's project was very important to the existence of Grupo I., and that she needed to be calm and happy to do her job, and that he was asking for Eduardo's help in keeping her that way. And of course he buttered him up re the military etc. Very clever --to get Eduardo to agree to Pluto's being with her since it has to do with work. It also plays into Ed's idea that Helena is not capable and is emotional - a woman- and needs someone like Pluto to help her succeed. Ugh!

While Helena does not seem to be a good judge of men, she seems to have Pluto's number. She asked him if he wanted to have a "romance" with her -which could mean romance or affair. I am looking forward to his answer.

Gotta stop and give a shout out PaulaH! It is a "turn to the stupid" direction! And how is it that Helena has slipped her mind (not a typo) and not taken one step to prove the special project was hers all along. gggrrrr...

I am not entertained by Santi's predicament any more.

Thanks Madelaine for your hard work. When the rate of speech speeds up I just lean back knowing somebody is catching this.

I still say Edwardo doesn't just hate his daughter and wife, he does not like women. Maybe Ed is thinking he can use Pluto some way to take Lalito away from his daughter.

Hello everybody, quite a discussion you've got going! Tablet, thanks for taking this Thursday. Ezra and I are doing a switch because he's starting a class - he'll move to Monday and I'll move to Tuesday. But this Tuesday I'll be out of town - so would somebody like to do the post? Tablet?

I think Tablet is already lined up for Thurs. Right? Anybody else?

Still thinking about Ed...maybe he sees Plutarco as like himself, a strong man, powerful, and uses women.

Maybe Ed sees Plutarco as the man he had hoped to be, and feels that having a wife and kid held him back.

You know what I just thought of... Ed and Silvia had only the one kid. Maybe they were never intimate again after that... but more likely they were, and their subsequent childlessness convinced Ed that he was infertile and Silvia had cheated on him.

Another possibility is that there was a son, but the son died and Ed blames Silvia for that and resents that Helena survived.

Frankly, the possibilities are endless. And like Judy said last week, the guy is just a jerk anyway. But I still think there's something more personal behind the hate he shows to Silvia and Helena.

I can do Tuesday and Thursday of this week.

[maybe] the son died and Ed blames Silvia for that and resents that Helena survived.

That one certainly rings true.

I know a family with a similar story, and the mother was never quite right thereafter.

Melinama was right...fabulous discussion. Love how you all are analyzing Plutarco's motivations and Eduardo's. This comedy is turning out to be very rich indeed. Would love it if it turned into another Fea where people all over the world were joining in and giving their analyses of the characters.

Wow, this is one great discussion.

Judy B- so agree with you about the motivations of Pluto/Eduardo the Bastardo.

Tablet jefe- Welcome and looking forward to your recap. This is a great TN, and so much fun.

NJ Sue- So agree with you about Pluto have more feelings for Helena than lust. I think in the beginning he did, but now not so much. He is starting to fall hard for her. He treats her better than Rebeca and Antonia.

Dona Felipa- I loved that soliloquy. Your are right it was very touching and beautiful. I am really hoping Helena gives Eva another chance.

Bonny Churros- It crossed my mind too that Eduardo the Bastardo would find some way of using the Pluto/Helena day to maybe take Lalito away from Helena, but he's gonna need alot more than that. So far Helena has foiled all his plans to take Lalito away, first she is paying/paid off that mortgage. So he will have to catch her in the act doing something else.

Julie- yeah you are right about Fernando. When Diego came to the company for the meeting with Helena and the Playa Project, Fernando greeted him cause evidently they were friends from way back, what Fernando didn't know though was that Marcela had met and dated Diego way before she met Fernando. This is what pithed Fernando off, cause Marcela never told him. He evidently thought that Marcela had never had a BF before him or slept with anyone else before him.

Julie- and when Diego came to the front desk and greeted Marcela, like his long lost love, this is when Fernando found out she had been Diego's GF. That's how he found out.

Thanks. I am aware of the backstory. My point was that you'd think that hearing Marcela say that she WISHED Ferni had been her first would soften the blow a lot. Didn't he hear her say that too?

I mean, all this time he's been thinking he was her first, and she had no one to compare him to. Now he knows she has a frame of reference, yet she still prefers him. I get why he'd still be upset, but not why he'd be so insecure.

Madelaine - fine recap. Thanks for all the detail.

I thought Fernando was funny opening and closing the door a second time to make sure his wife heard him come in late. The big baby, he just wants reassurance that she loves him and didn't settle for him as second best. Diego's a jerk, but he is hot and men envy him. After all Fernando's macho swagger, it's nice to see him sweat.

Helena's friend was so funny when Pluto called at bedtime to make sure Helena was okay. Her face said, "uh-huh, this guy has no personal interest in you at all."

Julie- my bad, you are right. I think Fernando did hear Marcela says she wishes Fernando had been her first. He is very jealous, you are right about the point of reference, which goes to prove for all his bluster he really does love her. I guess he thought he knew her, and now finds out she had a whole 'nother life before he met her he didn't know about.

Neice in MD- that scene was funny with Lucia making all those faces and noises at Helena when she was on the phone with Pluto. Lucia has his number, lol.

Julie - Maybe Fernando's still insecure because he thinks Marcela was saying the "right" thing to her daughter rather than being totally truthful when she said she wished he were her first. Marcela's a smart woman and handling his finding out about Diego calmly, but maybe Fernando wants her to show him that she's "loca" about him on top of the nice things she said about being his lover, his wife, his companion, the mother of his kids, etc. He knows she dolled herself up extra when she knew Diego would visit the office.

In my opinion, Fernando's lucky Marcela didn't smother him with a pillow in his sleep a long time ago. :-) He ought to be grateful that she tolerates him at all!

Maybe he figures she "settled" for him only because Diego dumped her after she slept with him. But if he keeps sulking the way he has been, maybe she WILL leave him, and then he'll have to do his own work, which (as far as we can tell) he may not even know how to do.

I caught a hint about Ed!

I was re-watching Thursday's cap with CCs to pick up details I missed.

Eva finds Lalo. Helena & entourage come to the amusement park. Ed rages at Eva, "Why did you kidnap (secuestrar) my grandson?"

Eva says to Helena, "I didn't do anything to your son. How could he believe that I would kidnap him?"

Helena answers, "I explain later. Let me talk to my son."

That sounds like a hint that someone kidnapped Ed's child. I think Julie could be right that Ed lost a son and he blames his wife and resents his daughter for surviving.

Oh wow. Good catch, Paula. I missed the "I'll explain later." (And of course, she never explained!)

Paula, I agree with Julie that was a good catch. Maybe that is why Ed is so hard on Helena and Silvia. And it also opens a whole new slew of ideas.
