Abismo de pasión #132 9/18/12: Todos Nuestros Amigos en L'Ermita Tienen Mala Suerte

Doc Tovar's Office

"...Luck is not to be coerced..." -- Albert Camus

After her terrible attack, a shaken and injured Carmina comes to Dr. Tovar's office. She tells her truthful tale, but here Carmina pushes her luck--Edmundo imagines that she is just lying, once again.

Now Carmina tries her usual seductive tricks and makes a huge play for Edmundo. She moves in on him and says that when he kisses her lips he won't be able to forget her...Edmundo wrestles himself away from Agent Orange and refuses her advances. But, with impeccably perfect antagonista timing, Carmina grabs Edmundo and practically forces him into what might be taken for a passionate embrace. At this moment, Begoña comes in and sees the struggling couple. Edmundo breaks away telling Carmina, "Between you and I (there) is absolutely nothing."

Begoña's face registers surprise but the real shock comes when Carmina, who is still toxic even though she has just been victimized, sprays her poison into the room--she tells Edmundo not to deny that they were lovers, four times, months ago. Way to be specific, Carmina.

Edmundo sees his recent détente with Begoña collapse. A horrified Begone tells Carmina, "I can't believe how wrong I was about you. How stupid I was." Wow, she is just now noticing! Begoña stalks out. Edmundo chases her, but Begoña is done with Edmundo (for the moment). Edmundo manhandles Carmina and throws her out of his office.

Merida, at the Neurosurgeon's Office

"He was just a coward and that was the worst luck any many could have." -- Ernest Hemingway, For Whom the Bell Tolls

Gabino comes in to see the neurologist dude. Gabino is a bad man, good at inflicting pain on others, but his own threshold for pain is very low. He has a BAD headache and he demands that something be done to rid him of the pain. Gabino menaces the doc with some serious attitude and the doc tells him to calm down. In order to help him they need to do some tomographic studies of his cabeza but he must be calm. We see Gabino, once again donned in his fetching hospital gown with sensors on his head as the doc does the CAT scans. I 'll give you two options for WHY Gabino has such a headache. Could it be...the bullet in his brain or the festering guacamole still in the bullet hole? Stay tuned...

Guadalupe's Church

"It must be nice to be so strong and to think it's because you're so good, that you live right and eat right, so you deserve your health and happiness. But there is such a thing as luck, and there's more bad luck than good in this world." -- Laura Lippman, Baltimore Blues

A hand-wringing angel of mercy, Lolita comes to visit the Padre. Does he know anything about the whereabouts or state of Elisa and Damian? She knows they are adults and all, but she is still SO worried. (For heaven's sake, will they give Delores something to do besides whine about "her niña"? Bah, I am sick of her hovering over Little E!).

Nope, Alfonsina doesn't know, Don Lucio doesn't know anything--the Padre hasn't heard anything about the wrong-way bride or her erstwhile admirer. Damian loves Elisa, according to Papa 'Lupe. He would never do anything to hurt her. But Gael is very angry. What Father Guadalupe is worried about is what happen when his nephew and his 'son' Gael encounter one another? Your recapper thinks there will be blood.

Woo-ooo-oo-ou music.

Don Lucio's

"Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck." -- Dalai Lama XIV

Gael is screaming at Don Lucio. Lucio has to help him find Elisa! Lucio replies in a soothing tone, he is happy to help Gael, but...where are they supposed to look for her? Gael paces the pink living room, "No, se! No se..." He has no idea--perhaps she is in another town, at another cenote. (Huh? Another cenote? Right, Gael. Use that pea sized brain of yours.) Don Lucio asks just what language Gael will use when seeking info on Damian and Elisa, ..."Looking for a couple, former lovers, who arrive on a horse..." Lordy that is funny. I love Lucio.

Gael's pride is deeply wounded. He cannot live with this injustice! Lucio tells him to pipe down. He understands Gael's desperation but they have nothing to go on. Poor Gael just can't take anymore! At least today Gael looks distraught and not like a Baby Satan like he did yesterday.

Lucio talks him off the ledge. "If you are that desperate, Gael, call the police. They can hold Damian while they look for Elisa". Gael yells, "No police!" He has to see Damian and work this thing out with him. No police! Once again, Lucio tells him to pick his knickers right out of his rectum. Be calm, be patient, Lucio advises.

Really Nice Playa With White Sand

"Real love finds you once, if you're lucky." -- Ellen Hopkins, Burned

In the cute little beach hut--it's not fancy, mind you, but I would stay here. Did you notice that it was completely waterproof in last night's deluge? But I digress...Damian is coughing, coughing, coughing. Elisa reminds him that he did not take her advice--It's Telenovela Rule # 28 all over again. According to our own CathyX, "That rule states that if a person goes out into the rain and gets completely soaked they will then get pneumonia later that day or the next day." Damian gasps out, I am fine, between coughs. See CathyX? You are a prognosticator! And they say Ramona has soothsaying skills...

Cough. Cough. Cough. Elisa asks Damain, "What exactly is your plan? How much time do I have to be here?" Damian doesn't know. "No se! No se!" says Little E. "How come every question I ask you answer with, I DON'T KNOW." Damian counters with "(I know) that I love you. Ahhh. If Zepeda said that to me, I would be doing backflips. Elisa looks less impressed.

Elisa gets mad and berates Damian. "We could wait a day, a week, a month and nothing is going to change. You are just like your dad. You are abandoning your wife and child." And why did you bring me here, she queries. Damian answers, "Remember when we ran away together as kids? You said you wanted to go to the sea. That's why I am here." Damian doesn't make any sense, but that sure is a romantic argument. Flashback to them as cute kids and runaways. Elisa remembers, Damian follows her out onto the beach and they kiss. She is into it, until she slaps him.

Once again, Elisa protests that she is Gael's babe, she doesn't want another man, especially not Damian! AND, whatever! I am tired of their dance. Bored by the scene, I notice that Elisa hair is a shambles. Cynderella will be glad. She hates Elisa's halo braid!

Gabino's Got a Headache II--Neurosurgeon's Office

"On the bright side, I'm sure this isn't the last time you'll ever get firebombed*, so maybe you'll have better luck next time." -- Janet Evanovich, Finger Lickin' Fifteen *shot in the head

After his tests, Gabino wants to know if he is OK, or not. After examining the studies, Doc SuperNeuro has no doubt--It's a miracle--Gabino is very lucky to be alive. Fool, spits Gabino. He wants his head to stop hurting. "For this, there is no cure, Sr. Mendoza". His headache is not going to get better. He will have it the rest of his life.

On a side note--You cannot imagine how sorry I feel for poor Gabino. Really. His is hellish karma--enacted by Ingrid and Ramona. Gabino may end up offing himself. Plus I love how he has the eye twitches and holds his head. I bet the actor spent some time in a Neurologist's office, taking notes.

The Church

"Lucky people make good decisions ..." D. Mulford

Sabrina tells Padre Lupe that she has decided to take some advice. She is going to work in a religious house with victims of domestic and psychological sexual violence. Guadalupe is thrilled. Where is this community? In Africa, she says. (Did anybody else snort here? Africa is a very large continent, chica, any idea of WHERE in Africa?)

But at this moment, Sabrina's mother, Begoña, bounces into Padre's office unannounced and tells Sabrina that she cannot go to Africa! According to her mom Sabina's place is in La Ermita, where she will marry and have kids...Sabrina replies that she is of age and that she doesn't need her mother's permission to sign the papers to join the religious community! The Father replies that he believes that Sabrina's calling is admirable and he blesses her, but Begoña drags her daughter out of the church.

Back at Casa Tovar Begoña wails that all her friends, her husband and her children have abandoned her. To be fair, Begoña has had a bad day, but Sabrina says out loud what all Viewerville is thinking when she tells her mother that she has brought the situation on herself with her nasty gossiping ways. One of the reasons Sabrina wants to leave is because she despises her Mother. Ay, Caray! It's the worse day of Begoña's life.

Hacienda Arango

"If grace belongs to God, there are those who say that luck belongs to the Devil and that he looks after his own." -- Sarah Dunant, In the Company of the Courtesan

Alfonsina takes a call from Carmina. Does Carmina know anything about her son? No, says Carmina, but history repeats itself. Yet again, an Arango leaves town with a Bouvier. (I hope Sabine wins an award for her portrayal of Carmina. She is a wonderful villain). Carmina checks her watch and tells Alfie that about now, they are probably dead. This taunt literally makes Alfonsina sick. Alfie clutches her heart, gasps, and runs around the house, looking for her medicine. It's very dramatic.

Some Things Move the Story Along

The thoughts of others Were light and fleeting, Of lovers' meeting Or luck or fame. Mine were of trouble, And mine were steady; So I was ready When trouble came. -- A.E. Housman, More Poems

· Paloma tells Dr. Tovar that she will be leaving her job at the doctor's office. She explains that "Flo is now a free woman and she and Enrique love each other." Paloma is going to release Enrique from their engagement. Her situation with Gael is quite different than Enrique and Flo's, and she "vants to be alone". Later on, in the public Plaza, Paloma dumps Enrique--politely. She thanks him for everything and pushes him strongly toward the love of his life, Florencia.

· Gabino visits his friend the forger. He picks up what look like fake airlines. Uh-oh. It looks like Gabby is going to continue the deception on Alfonsina.

· Doc Tovar comes to the house and he and Sabrina have a fight about her mom. Begoña won't see him. Doc wants to straighten things out with her. He tells Sabrina to trust him. When Edmundo talks to Begonia he tells her that he wants to tell her exactly what transpired between he and Carmina. Begone doesn't want to know. He doesn't have to explain anything, she is fine. They are divorced.

· Edmundo says he can see it affected her strongly. They fight. (FF). Ed says he does not regret anything in his life as much as he regrets his involvement with Carmina Bouvier. Begoña doesn't want to hear this (can't say I blame her) and Edmundo leaves his former home.

Padre Visits Hacienda Arango

"Do ya' feel lucky, punk?" -- Clint Eastwood

Padre visits Vicente at the Hacienda. He asks how Chente is--about Gabino. Vicente says Gab is mean to him and ignores him. Now you know the REAL Gabino Mendoza, says Padre. But Vicente stubbornly wants a relationship with his "Dad". Lupe tells him that Braulio is equally his father. Chente is about to dis Lupe on this subject, when his mother Antonia rushes in with news--Alfonsina is very bad! Antonia found Alfonsina on the floor. Padre tells them to call the Doctor right now and rushes off to see his sister.

"Por mi," says Chente, "Ese muera". Quick! Somebody send this kid a double Bitch-slap Card from Abismart. Or just call Dirty Harry.

Casa Castañon

If you were to ask me if I'd ever had the bad luck to miss my daily cocktail, I'd have to say that I doubt it; where certain things are concerned, I plan ahead. Luis Bunuel

In a darkened room at Casa Castañon , Carmina drinks alone, straight out of the wine bottle. It's one way to get the wine from the container to your gut. Outside the bell rings. Carmina wipes her mouth with the back of her hand, and gets up to answer the bell. Carmina is fallen very low.

"[His coat] emitted an odor of bus station so desolate that just standing next to him you could feel you luck changing for the worse." -- Michael Chabon, Wonder Boys

When she comes outside to see who rang the bell Paolo attacks her again! O MI GAWT! This is too much! We know Paolo is an evil bastard, why do we have see another rape attempt? Paolo verbally abuses her again, Carmina is going to get everything she wants from him. (Mega yucky horrid scene).

But wait! It's a bird! It's a plane! No it's Headbandage Man! Heroic Gabino interrupts Paolo's attack and tells him to scram! A terribly upset Carmina reluctantly thanks Gabino.

But a clueless Gabino picks this inopportune time to press his suit. A woman like Carmina deserves the protection of someone like him. Carmina is his kinda woman, unscrupulous... Gabino offers her a deal-- If it is what she wants, Paolo can be dealt with--if she wants Gabino more than anything. They dance a fight and fornicate tango...

Paolo is still on a rampage. Next he visits his niece Florencia and tells her he is going back to Mexico. He needs to leave this town now. Won't Flo go back to Mexico with him? Flo, looks at him, shocked. "Paolo, why don't you understand that I do not want to see you ever again. Never."

Alfonsina's Room, Hacienda Arango

"Luck is a goddess not to be coerced and forcibly wooed by those who seek her favours. From such masterful spirits she turns away. But it happens sometimes that, if we put our hand in hers with the humble trust of a little child, she will have pity on us, and not fail us in our hour of need." -- P.G. Wodehouse

Alfonsina is propped up in her bad. Religious music is playing as Padre Guadalupe kneels by the bed. Alfonsina says, "I don't want to die. Not now. Not until I have spoken with my son. I need to tell him it wasn't my fault. I did not help Florencia. Please, my son has to see that Flo also deceived me!"

"Calm yourself, sister."

"Guadalupe, temo que toda mi vida..." (I fear that all of my life...) What are you talking about sister? "If I die, tell the truth..." "Calm yourself. Of what truth are you speaking, Alfonsina? Alfonsina draws a gasping breath and passes out. "¡Alfonsina!" cries Lupe.

On The Beach

"The best luck always happens to people who don't need it." -- Robert Penn Warren, All the King's Men

Many miles away, in the cute little hut on the beach, Damian stirs out of his sleep, seemingly at the moment that Lupe calls "Alfonsina." He is sleeping on the ground in the middle of the hut. Hmmm...That doesn't seem very cosy. I would have tucked myself up against the wall. Anyway, Little E. is not there. Damian grabs the leather saddlebags and runs out of the hut, onto the beach, just in time to see Elisa take of on the back of his beautiful white horse. He runs, crying after her. Avances - Paolo tells Gabino that Carmina is a sickness it is not easy to cure. The Elisa and Damian romantic music plays and we see Elisa and Damian share some (very) intimate moments in the dark...Well, Hallelujah!

Hola!

I couldn't resist making luck the theme of tonight's episode after all the fun we had over the weekend with the Mala Suerte dude.

Enjoy!

EJ

EJ, how do you keep turning out these masterfully brilliant recaps? You were on fire tonight chica. I LOVE your luck (or lack of it) theme. Luck is a subject upon which I have cogitated mucho, (probably way too much), so I thoroughly enjoyed all the quotes. And I know a certain commenter will be very happy with your nod to Mala Suerte.

May I give a personal thank you to your Evanovich quote? I do enjoy those "Estefania" Plum books. Also the Camus quote, one of my favorites.

Speaking of mala suerte, our nasty little Paolo might have given one hip thrust too many tonight. I think Doc Tovar is safe from Carmina's wiles and it is Gabino who will wipe the streets of La Ermita with Paolo's face. Good.

OMG, I totally missed Lucio's classified ad suggestion. Thank goodness you mentioned it in your recap so I could rewind. That was a hilarious scene.

Did anyone else think it was a little weird when Flor said she was going to rent Kenia's house? Maybe she loved the awesome decorating job. I would have thought World Market was beneath Flor but heck, even Fresas can change I guess.

Gracias EJ! What a super duper recap. As usual your astute observations clad in scathing brilliance made this episode seem like so much more than it really was. Hooray for you!! It was the perfect way to end my evening.

P.S. I really felt for you during this episode because of all the headaches. Yikes. Glad you can still manage to joke around with that. You are a champ.

I didn't see this episode (fell asleep) but I learned that Paloma gets a B!TC# PLEEZ for "releasing Enrique to go be with his true love, Florencia."

Paloma is releasing Enrique so she can go after her true love, Gael. If Gael had married Elisa but Damian & Florencia had divorced, would Paloma have released Enrique from his promise to marry her? I think not.

Paloma, have a seat.

Thanks, Sylvia! I, too, have thought a lot about luck. Even if you have it in one area of life, it is completely ephemeral.

I have been missing you here! Did you love the little hut? I couldn't believe it was so completely waterproof during the storm. I was once in Akumal staying in a little casita on the beach when a large storm came up. The roof on my little palapa was like a funnel that focused all the water on my hammock. Jejeje...

Isn't Evanovitch fun? And I can not imagine why Flo would want to rent Kenia's house, except that rent is cheap.

Or could it be that the powers that be had already built the Kenia Casa set??? O I am so cynical.

EJ

Anon:207:

Boy have you got that right! Paloma was more than a little self serving there, wasn't she?

EJ

Yes I did love the hut. A casita on the beach is my idea of heaven. Second only to bobbing on the blue waters of the bay adjoining said casita. Your casita adventure sounds fun, annoying, and of course memorable. And did you really sleep in a hammock? Good for you! I have never done so.

It's true I have not been as much of a joiner and commenter as I usually am. I am trying to coordinate a life adventure for myself. Real life over telenovelas? What a concept!

I love Evanovich. She is lusty and interesting. Her characterization is sublime and her conversation is to be envied.

No my dear, you are not cynical, just a cock-eyed optimist. Which is what the rest of the world should aspire to. I know I do.

Thank you EJ. I liked the "fight and fornicate tango" line.

Oh well, my pal Sara got there first. I too liked the "dance a fight and fornicate tango" as well as your astute medical analysis of Gabino's continuing headache as due "to festering guacamole still in the bullet hole".

Your theme of Luck and relevant quotes was just such a treat. My favorite was the one about the poor guy giving off the aroma of bus stations while the observer felt his luck changing for the worse right then. What a picture.

Tell me, what are the karmic odds of you having to do the recap on Gabino's intolerable headache? I hope this means that YOUR luck is about to change for the better, dear friend. You are a treasure and with all my heart I want you to be pain-free and joyous again.

In the meantime, thanks for giving us the brilliant, insightful and wickedly funny recap to start our day off right.

Nicely done, EJ! Thankee, thankee for the recap. You literally saved me from going off the deep end because just as we were getting to Fina and Loopy at the end, my satellite totally pissed me off by GOING BLACK. I could hear Fina wheezing and Loopy's desperation and the Virgencita music the whole time, but could see nothing! Que horror! What torture! Why THAT scene of all scenes, d-a-m-n-i-t!!!

LOVED the quotes. Great idea.

Awww, pobrecita Agent L'Horange. What's the matter, hon? I thought you LIKED pimping yourself out to all the guys for attention, and now you don't want to play? Paola raped her all right, but Karma was straight up behind that, stuff that goes around coming right back around to bite her in the ass, sins being visited back upon the sinner. And it ain't over yet. Couldn't happen to a nicer gal.

I too love the way GABINO is being played right now, with the twitches and other neurological problems. Well done. His Anvil is going to be massive and I can't wait to see it! Any bets as to whether he'll off Carmina first, or she him? Heck, they just might go together somehow with their stupid selves, hahaha. (Personally, I would rather see Kenia, Estefy, and Augie all come back from the grave together in a supernatural haze and drag her kicking and screaming across the River Styx.)

Give it up, Gall.

And yeah, Paloma, we are not buying your self-sacrificing crap about wanting QueQue to be with Flo. What a crock. You just want to be free for Gall.

Dam is fine but I'll be doggoned if I'd let him put his tongue down my throat while he's hacking up a lung and all those germs. We don't both need to be dyin'. Suck face later, like after a round of antibiotics.

And speaking of that, I think Elisa kneed him near the groin after the kiss and that's why he went down... did I see that right?

Chente is such an irritant. I vote for calling Dirty Harry.

Hey Stephe...ditto to the unwise lip-locking with a super-ill galan. I was afraid he was going to hack up a big load of phlegm into Elisa's mouth during that smooch. Which, come to think of it, would serve her right after all her annoying tantrums.

I heard on the radio this morning that today is International Talk Like a Pirate Day. Arrrrrgggghhh, mateys!

* * * *

elna june - Thanks for the recap. Funny, snarky, and love the literary quotes. I think Stephanie Plum has had a car firebombed in every one of those books, and her apartment, almost as often. Dam and Gall sure ain't no Ranger and Morelli!
Wodehouse is another fav-o author of mine.

WHY didn't Dam-fool tell Elisa about Flor's fake baby and the divorce?!?! Oh, wait, that is one of the Telenovela Rules. Argh!

Elisa is such an idiot. WHY did act like HE kidnapped her from her wedding? AAAarrrrggghhhh! ALL while she was secretly wearing her Damulet, stashed in her cleavage, when she was trying to marry Gall. Gah.

Gael is such an idiot. Dude, she's just. not. that. into. you. Gah. Chillax.

Alfonsina having heart attack= -->FFWD & "mute"

Gabino is BandanaHeadMan. Very stylin'.

Chente looks taller than Padre Lupe. The kid has definitely had a growth spurt.

AVANCES - Looked like Elisa's skirt just falls away, detaching instantaneously from the bodice and hitting the ground. I'm sure I saw that wrong, but . . .

Oh my stars, EJ! Brilliance times 10! I love the use of the quotes. Especially fond of the Durant and Dalai Lama ones.

And to everyone who is pithed at Pathetic Pal and her righteous freeing of QuiQui, add me to the list. Wow, how I've grown to really not like this young woman. Writers should be shot for how badly they have sketched her and Gael in this half of the TN.

Well, I figured Alfi's heart would come into play at some point. Voila. But I can't believe they would have her die off, but then again, but then again middle school creative writers can have fun being a little vindictive.

If Salvadore doesn't win SOMETHING for his turn as AbsGab, there is no justice. I keep thinking how horrendous it was when I still suffered from mind-numbing migraines, so knowing you would have to live with the kind of pain he must be feeling every day...yeah, the thought of taking another bullet to the brain may be a release and a real option.

Yet, I keep waiting for Horacio to pop up at some point. If Carmina and Gab do hook up, maybe it will be easier for him to take them both out. After all, he does know how to create an incendiary device and blow things up. Just a thought....

Wrong of me to really feel bored by the Elisa/Dam stuff? ( Oh, and Damian---next time you run off without knowing when you will return, take a change of clothes. I'd ride off myself if only to be able to take a decent shower and freshen up. Stooopid. ) At least the poor horse may finally get some decent food too. Poor thing.

daisynjay - It's not wrong of you to feel bored with DamLisa. In fact, it's quite normal in Viewerville. Lately, I watch and laugh at them.

Is anyone else having trouble reading this recap from the main page? On the main page everything stops after the title of this recap, and you can't open the recap. Even on my phone, it wouldn't let me open it and read it. I had to go into the posting page of Blogger to access it.

I didn't have any trouble reading it from the main page or seeing the whole thing from the Read More link - at least not on my iPad.

Vivi in DC - are you having trouble doing this on an iPhone?

Carmina needs to stay in her house and order pizza for the next few days, of her current "suitors," Paulo is a rapist, and the stuff that went on between Ingrid and Bandanahand/head man wasn't so nice lookin' neither!

Our protagonist knees her lifelong friend and amulet laden lover in the groin after SHE gives him a voluntary and HEARTY  kiss on the beach? Alfonsina has been right all along, Elisa is  all wrong for Damian or any other normal guy!

Speaking of Alfonsina, she consistently tinges her weepy confessions to Padre with, "Florencia fooled me."  She needs get to her heart and soul in the right place, and take full responsibility, not nudge blame onto others.

Stephe...."Paloma....self-sacrificing crap". Yes!

In Chicago (already very windy!) Must go, on iPad that someone else needs for legit reasons, (work!) ........ Thanks EJ and CathyX, incredible, creative, captivating recaps.

Doris, Damulet, bwahahaha, snort.

ITA with you guys about doing the lip lock with our hacking galan, ugh. And speaking of Elisa's falling "skirt" and her dainty underthings, I think she's been wearing that outfit for a couple of days now. And no rainwater wash for her. Just sayin'.

Vivi, no not having any trouble reading the recap from the main page on both my laptop and my Android. I hope your glitch fixes itself.

I am now able to see the recap but was having same issues vivi was earlier. so thank you whoever changed whatever you changed...

yes Stephe, you saw right, Elisa kneed Dam in the tender spot right in the middle of that kiss and that is why he ended up on the floor on fetal position...

EJ, what can i say? another masterpiece, won't even bother repeating any quotes... it is great fun read from head to toe.

i can imagine Horacio enjoying the show when he sees Paolo and Gabino fighting for the ho... both trying to rape her in their own style... and her feeling scared at being all alone in the house...

Elisa did know about the fake baby story because Sabrina told her right before the wedding. She may not know that it's the truth or that Florencia served Damian with divorce papers but Elisa does have this knowledge.

And she can have a seat with Paloma with her little indignant act because she was hiding her amulet in her cleavage. The amulet was hanging on a post in her bedroom until Sabrina came by with her news, then all of a sudden it's deep in the folds of her cleavage. She can have a stadium of seats with her little indignant act of loving Gael, when she's sneaking Damian's amulet in her breasts.

doris, Talk Like a Pirate Day? Arrrrr an' Avast! That gives us carte blanche t' misbehave an' go out thievin' an' pillagin' t' our black hearts' contents. Then "Blistering Barnacles!" we'll all meet later at th' Patio fer a grog.

EJ great recap of a rather annoying episode. Univision gave us whatever and you upped the educational ante through interesting and diverse quotes.

Yes Anon207 Elisa and Pal should share a table with their silly LYING selves. And Alfie needs to go there too...what was that drivel? Flo deceived you and you are so innocent, ack.

Cathyx thanks for your recap. Loved your tn rules and predictions.

Dear Doctora Sonoma,

I feel that Lady Luck is on our side today since we have the opportunity to bathe in your brilliance. Each quote you chose was so apt and so inspiring -- I'm sure there will be a run on local libraries today as we in the CarayCaray community try to assemble the reading list.

I join those who went "ewwww" when hacking sickie Dam tried to exchange spit with Elisa.

But I felt that for the very first time, the actress looked like herself; with her hair loose and standing in her tutu-like dress, she struck some lovely, balletic poses on the beach.

And I am a bit more sympathetic to Paloma than some of you. She isn't chasing after Gael. She is removing herself from this particular circle of hell. I hope she follows through because she is much too good for Gael.

I AM glad that Gabino has promised to kill Paolo since that may keep Edmundo from having to do it. And Ed may be a fool and a philanderer, but I'd hate to see him as a murderer.

I'm thinking Carmina is chugging from the bottle because with Dolores gone, she has run out of clean glasses.

NM, i agree about Paloma just wanting to remove herself from the 'wrong solution' to her issue. and LOL on the Carmina drinking straight from bottle because there's noone to clean glasses at the quinta.

Thanks much EJ - I really enjoyed the quotes. And you got me intrigued enough with the setting of Susan Dunant's Courtesan (the 1527 sack of Rome) that I had to read more.... Putting the convenient link in there going me going!

Hmm - I see the quote formatting and links are gone now. Was that what caused the problem?

I doubt Paloma thinks she can get back with Gael. I think she's more interested in usurping Elisa's position as primary selfless self-righteous martyr.

It doesn't matter what Sabrina told Elisa. Haughty Elisa just doesn't get things even when spelled out to her. She's willfully blindly stoopid.

Elna June --- A Super Great recap.
ITA that Ms. Sabine Moussier should get an award -- superb acting.
the gringo

EJ, If anyone can put a literary spin on the writers' drivel, it's you! I just loved your quotes, AE Housman is one of my favorites. What a treat for us to be enlightened today!

Doris="Damulet" HILARIOUS!!!

Zepeda and Boyer have some real chemistry when she isn't kneeing him in the privates. Looks like tonight she finally goes with it!

Thanks a million, EJ!

Katy

Well, Audrey, Paloma may not think she can get back with Gael, and they really are horribly wrong for each other, but my gut feeling just knows that the writers of this TN are going to make sure that is exactly what happens. Here: have a happily ever after or else.

Sandy, yes our little heroine has learned some lessons from her elders and peers on how to behave.
Frankly, they should flash a PSA announcement before this TN saying:

WARNING: This station does not condone, recommend or support the depiction of the behavior of any of the young women in this TN.

Mornin' All:

Thanks for the comments. I have an appointment this AM but I will be back later to chat.

Hasta later,

EJ

What fantastic quotes -- LOVE THEM. Especially the Buñuel.

I didn't get to see the episode, but the day before I saw a flight of flamingos in the avances. Have they shown up yet? Can we put little plastic flamingos in our drinks?

Muchísimas gracias, Elna June!

Well, that was a jaw-dropping new level of sleaze. "Hey, I just saved you from being raped, now thank me by having sex with me." For a split second there I almost thought Gabino was going to make a futile attempt at redemption, then he comes out with that. Everlasting headache, though...yeesh. That is an excellent horrible punishment. If that were my fate, I think I'd just put an end to it.

Why doesn't Dam TELL Elisa about Flor's lies and the divorce? Suddenly he doesn't like to talk? These two petulant children deserve each other, I guess.

Audrey...Melinama fixed the problem with the gobbeldy-gook. If you send me your email address I'll send you what she had to do to fix it because it concerns how all of us post our recaps, evidently.

Well, Audrey, Paloma may not think she can get back with Gael, and they really are horribly wrong for each other, but my gut feeling just knows that the writers of this TN are going to make sure that is exactly what happens. Here: have a happily ever after or else.

Oh agreed, it's pre-ordained. Especially with Paloma expecting a wee one by Gael.

pI thought the sensors the Merida doc put around Gabino's head looked like a string of Christmas lights. I was waiting for them to start blinking.

EJ - quotations on luck! I thoroughly enjoyed them all. And strangely enough, I was listening to the CD of Wonder Boys as I read your recap. What a wonderful way to salvage this lukewarm mess of a story. The sell-by date on this TN has come and gone, so I'm very appreciative of all the recappers' witty works.

While we're all waiting for Horacio to reappear, you have to give Gabs credit for keeping things interesting. He may be a bit worse for the wear with that pesky bullet in his brain, but the gray matter can still keep a good scam going. I was very impressed with his fake airline tickets. Even if Alfie kicks it, he can probably sell them to Eliar or Agent Orange.

PEPE...thanks. I was cracking up when they showed those silly things. Looked like they got them out of a Crackerjack box.

Hello!

Thanks to all for your comments. We are at the point in the TN where this recapper is desperate to have a theme—there being no sensible PLOT to follow. I am glad you enjoyed the recap.

Sylvia, it should rather be said that I TRIED to sleep in a hammock. I spent most of the time underneath the hammock, on the floor with my Thermarest.

Hi, Sara. I am glad you liked the 'fight and fornicate' comment. Really, I could not figure out just where the writers were taking that scene. I 100% agree with Julia that Gabby's proposition was the height (or depth) of tackiness.

Judy, how funny was it that I got the neurological "Headache" epi! O well, at least I had a moment of compassion for our fictional villain. Until this storyline I was fresh out of any empathy with eeevil Gabino. thanks for all your kind wishes, amiga. Right back at you.

Stephe: So NICE to see you! What a dreadful time for your recording to cut out! I am glad to be of service (bow). And your comment about Damian having la plaga and then kissing Elisa, well, I think she is such an insincere little twit that I don't mind her getting a case of the flu.

Doris: Arghh, me girrrrl Doris. Talking like a pirate is great fun. And, really, amiga mia, are you surprised that Elisa has a break-a-way skirt on her wedding dress? It is comical how short they made her tutu. Oh wait, she probably did the alterations herself.

Daisynjay:
Thank you for the lovely compliment. I blush, I blush.

As to Salvador Zerboni, what a turn. I adore this actor. I wonder if it is possible to turn him into a galan, or if they will even try. The balding blonde ponytail look has a certain bad boy downmarket appeal, no? If he were not such a dreadful human, Gabs is the kind of guy that would be fun to have as a lover, never a husband. Still, I'll bet Zerboni cleans up REAL GOOD. I'd love to see him in an Armani tux.

The story of Elisa and Damian was a small story to begin with, and then they stretched it to 160 capitulos. I think I remember Jarocha saying that it's predecessor was something like 80 episodes long. We'd be crazy if we were not bored with it. Let's see if these two actors really can turn up the heat and make their grand passion believable in tonight's beach-beso capitulo.

Vivi, so sorry you had access problems. I had the same problem myself, only on my Ipad, warly this AM my time. Great to see you.

Hi, Sandy in TN: Enjoy Chicago, amiga. I wish I was there with you. It's one of my favorite museum towns in the US. But the wind! The weather! Both of my sons-in-law are from Chicago but they have chosen to live here in California because they are self-professed weather wimps. Sadly, so am I.

Hey Marta: So sorry you had those access issues. Thanks for your kind words. It looks like you drew the card for the 'big romance' capitulo in this TN. Have fun with the recap! I know you will do it justice.

Greetings to Audrey and Karen.

Novela Maven: You are cracking me up this AM...

"I'm thinking Carmina is chugging from the bottle because with Dolores gone, she has run out of clean glasses."

Now that is the best line of the day!

Greetings to Gringo, Katy, Pepe and Anya. So nice of you to comment.

EJ

Thanks for this elegant recap, Elna June. Very nicely done.

OK, first I'm going to defend Alfonsina a bit. She acknowledged that she was responsible for all of her problems. She does deny (and rightly so) that she had any participation in the fake pregnancy plot. She wants her brother and son to be aware of that fact before she dies.

I have not, however, until now, taken her heart problem seriously. It seemed more of a ploy to control Rosendo, Damián, and others around her. Sorry, Alfy.

Gabino and Carmina have hijacked this show... and that's a good thing. I simply can't get enough of either. I cracked up when he asked her to show her gratitude. He is such a smooth operator.

It's a bit odd that Gabino has the terrible headache since the brain has no pain sensor. If the pain is so bad and Ramona has the key to relieving it, I'd be leaning on Doc Tovar to get her recipe.

I was a little surprised that Doc Tovar tried to discourage Paloma's resignation from her job. From what I've seen of her job performance I'm afraid I would have said, "Well, do what you've gotta do."

Carlos

EJ, I think Zerboni would make a good galán sidekick. The sidekicks usually get a more interesting story, anyway.

Thanks EJ, you did a great job with an episode where the avances look more interesting than this show.

You guys are so gross with the swapping phlegm bit, but I will admit that I thought the same thing when he was kissing her. I thought he would cough right into her mouth. After all, it's hard to control a cough like that.

I loved Bandanahead Man. His head is mostly healed, I noticed. Live with excruciating pain the rest of your life, or schmooze Ramona for some more of those herbs.

I think what was different about Elisa today was she had no makeup on, or at least not nearly as much, no false eyelashes.

Sabrina and I both despise Begonia. She annoys me so much that I have skip over every scene with her. She really really grates on my very last nerve.

Audrey, I agree that that's another TN rule. Rule #5 states that if a woman is carrying another man's baby and that man is not a bad guy, she will marry him before the gran finale. They always raise their child together unless one of them is dead.

"The sell-by date on this TN has come and gone, ....."
Anya - LOL! Your comment is sidebar-worthy!

Pepe - LOL on the Christmas lights. Gabs' facial expressions were a hoot.

How on earth does Paloma think she's going to support herself and her child, all alone and far away with no family to help her? She has no job skills and she's flaky. Who's going to hire her and pay enough that she can afford child care and everything else? I shudder to think what her employment options will be. Bosses like Doc T are a rare find.

Carlos thanks for giving a LOL moment in my day -

I was a little surprised that Doc Tovar tried to discourage Paloma's resignation from her job. From what I've seen of her job performance I'm afraid I would have said, "Well, do what you've gotta do."

EJ, I was like a bird following your delicious trail of tasty breadcrumbs. I enjoyed every single quote - what a clever idea and so much fun!

This was simply great. So many wonderful comments already so I'll concur that Gabino is stealing the show (along with Carmina) - their performances (like your recap) are stellar.

I still am imagining Gab is having fun with his role - twitches and all.

Still waiting for Horacio (and Ingrid) to appear.

EJ, this was superb.

Diana

What "luck" that we have EJ as a recapper! I loved it all, from the luck theme to "well, hallelujah". Excellent!

Yes, I can imagine how sorry you feel for Gab. I think of you in each of his scenes. This hug is for you: (((((())))))

Gab's acting is top notch. He WILL win an award, especially if Eye Twitching is a category.

I think Paolo said he was leaving for Mexico City tomorrow, which does not bode well for him tonight.

Oh, how we'd all love to see Dirty Harry give a talkin'-to to the empty chair that is Chente.

Thanks again, EJ!

Rosemary la Otra

Is that another telenovela rule? If a baddie says he's a-leavin' in the mornin', somebody'll be gunnin' for him tonight?

Blue Lass, that sounds like a country song.

UH-OH, Julia...I feel another weekend theme comin' on...

Best Country Lyrics Ever:
"I'm so ruthless since Ruth left me..." Lol Seriously, it's a real song.

EJ- This recap was just amazing! (When I finally got to read it just now.) It took me all morning to finally figure out HOW to read it, then it got fixed, but by then I had meetings all day and couldn't read it till now. Gah! But it was well worth the wait. Brilliant amiga!

Great comments today. I have nothing to add except that like those of you who get bad headaches who were feeling for Gab, I was feeling for poor Dam who was hacking up a lung because my allergies have been causing me to wheeze and cough all week. My co-workers actually sent me home early today! From the previews it looks like Eliar gets him some drugs so that he'll be in good enough shape to do their own version of the fight and fornication tango...

Thank you so much for the recap. Our power went out last night during a storm & I missed part of the show.

So, let's see . . . Sabrina wants to work with abused women. In Africa. And, this is a plan that Padre Lupe supports because . . .
a teenager with 6 semesters of beauty school and one illicit affair with the village rapist under her belt is completely prepared for a career in social work on another continent. Huh.

Sounds like they just didn't have anyone to pair Sabrina up with, so they're getting rid of her.

It was HILARIOUS when, as Dam Sick untied Elisa's hands, there was Boom-Chicka-wow-wow music playing. OMG, I just cracked up.

I like Elisa as a character and I always have, but arrrrrrrrrh, maties, right now I just wanna make her walk the plank during this I've Been Abducted arc. Kneeing Dam in the Dam groin at that moment was just ridiculous on her part. Maybe all the heartbreak of being with Dam / not being with Dam / having a home / not having a home / seeing Daddy with a shotgun wound/ seeing Blanca blown up / fighting to be happy back and forth B.S. has finally gotten to her and she's gone loopy.

I think Elisa is a total mush-brain, but I got why she kneed Dam. As far as she knows, he's trying to make her his bit on the side, while he's still married and expecting a child with Flor. She does love him and is attracted to him, hence taking a moment to enjoy the kiss, but really, she does not want to be the hoochie that Carmina is or that Alfie always thought Estefi was.

ROFL @ all the great comments in this thread. y'all are priceless. :)

Oh for definite, Julia -- Elias does NOT want to be a Dam hoochie on the side. Agreed. Ugh.

Maybe someone else mentioned this, but in the previews, did we see Elisa making a call on a payphone to say that she was OK?

Was she hiding pesos for an emergency call in her bosom (as someone here suggested yesterday)? From the looks of it, she could easily accommodate the Encyclopedia Brittanica, a bag of munchy, crunchy Tostachos . . . and more.

Love your idea for a new weekend theme, Blue. I had a blast writing country lyrics for a song as a theme for a recap earlier this year. I'm in!

Hi, Rosemary and Julia.

(Hugs) ITA, Little E. is a total mush-brain. fortunately for her, Damian's head seems equally soft. Heaven forbid that these two reproduce. I can just see their gorgeous little baby, festooned with amulets and dressed in a too-tight blue-jean-onesie with special high cut legs. Shudder.

Looking forward to tonight and to Marta's recap.

EJ

Suerte!!!

It's wonderful. I LOVE IT!!!!

A. Lurker

EJ, you forgot its little cat-fanny lips. Ugh. FULL-BODY SHUDDER/WET DOG SHAKE.

Blue Lass

p.s. Posting anonymously b/c Blogger has decided I'm my husband and will not be convinced otherwise.
