Por ella soy Eva #45 9/18/12: It's time for the good guys to win one, please?
- Pluto puts the screws on Helena while Eva eavesdrops and comes barging in to interfere.
Rebeca apologizes to Pluto for her lousy attitude and says that since he doesn’t want to be around her now, they should break up. “Just forget all those games we have... the 5-star hotels, our corporate meetings in the jacuzzi...” This revs him up and they have sex on the desk, goodbye to disfunction.
Rebe crows to her black-haired friend: “Your advice worked perfectly. I’m a genius.” “I won’t congratulate you until you’re married.” Incidentally, when the boss told this friend to quit yakking on the phone, she quit her job.
- Helena to Eva: “When you’re a stockholder you won’t want to be a secretary any more.” “On the contrary! I know what, I’ll give the shares to you!” This earns her back the points she loses every time she butts into Helena’s private business. Helena smiles: “I’ve worked for everything I’ve had in this life and that’s how I’ll continue.” JC is smitten again. His stare makes Helena nervous.
They go off to have a talk with Helena’s mom, saying: “You need to talk about what happened when you lost your baby.” Silvia refuses to tell, saying “All that’s left to women like me is dignity.” Eva sends Helena off to pick up Lalo at school and coaxes mom out of her room: “Like you, I’m a woman who has suffered a lot.”
Eva tells a porky: “When I was six I saw my uncle shake and beat my aunt. We thought they were playing... and afterwards my aunt pretended nothing was wrong.” “One never imagines one’s spouse could do such things.” “My Aunt stayed with him to the last day of her life.” “I understand that.” “Nobody has the right to maltreat us in any way.”
- To quickly dispatch the tedious subplot of Marcela’s husband the orangutan: he’s forced her to accompany him as he sneaks around following their son. When the kid meets up with a guy, the parents sneak through the gate. Fernando grabs his son’s friend and smacks him. Turns out the guy is a music teacher and it’s band practice. The son is furious and embarrassed FF
- Helena tells her son he’ll be able to come live with her starting this weekend. Eduardo listens as Lalo protests: “No, gramps is still sick, you come here with us.”
Eduardo tries convincing Lalo not to go live with his mother. He protests that he loves his grands but he really really loves his mom: “She makes me laugh, she has soft hands, she tells me stories. I love her so much.”
Meanwhile Silvia finally tells her sad story to Helena: “I was young, you were young, I wanted to finish school, I dreamed of a career, but your dad didn’t want that. We fought until … I invented falling down the stairs so the police wouldn’t get involved.” “Why did you stay?” “For you! He protected us, and I thought my love would change him.” “One who’s violent never changes. He’s humiliated both of us for years. Now I see why he’s obsessed with Lalo.” This was a great conversation – I hope it helped any beaten wives who were watching it. Helena can’t believe her mom won’t leave.
- JC tells Mimi how lonely Adriano is. Mimi’s friend is going to give her a chance to meet Maxim Gurtzain on the radio. I dunno if that’s somebody real.
- Silvia tries to talk to her husband about the future. “The only future that interests me is my grandson’s. “Silvia, I want you to help me keep him here with us in this house. “ “I won’t help, his place is with his mother.”
- While Eva and Helena wonder if Silvia will ever see she’d be better off without Eduardo, and joke about some ball game that’s coming up, Silvia looks for her husband but instead finds a note: “I won’t lose my grandson! Helena won’t win this battle! Goodbye.” Silvia is locked in the house! Tomorrow Eduardo is going to steal Lalo from school.
- Helena, not hearing the sound of the anvil dropping, happily tells her co-workers that Playa Majagua phase two is ready. Eva is reminded she has to come up with her documents in order to be a shareholder. Adriano wants a party for their suppliers and associates.

Where did Juan Carlos get al this perceptiveness?
(We did see a bit of it in that long ago scene when he found his mother who had wandered off & was in a theater thinking that she was performing. I remember the look on his face as he watched her. He was so loving and so understanding of her illness & delusions.)
So anyway -- Eva seems able to know exactly what to say to unlock the secret feelings of these troubled women, first Antonia now Silvia. And come to think of it he did the same when he talked Lalito out of the tree ages ago. The sensitivity is really that of Juan Carlos. He must have been deeper than the womanizing idiot that he appeared to be.
I was stunned by the story Eva told to unlock Silvia. The detail of the rattling each time the uncle hit the aunt and knocked her into the blinds was chilling. And Eva appears to have made up the story on the spot. It sure did the trick.
The other chilling moment was at the end when Silvia discovers that Eduardo has locked her in. And as you noted, CHF, the juxtaposition of that unfolding horror at home with the happy office meeting just accentuated our dread of what Eduardo was going to do.

Thanks for the great recap.
The domestic abuse subject was difficult to watch in this episode. I hope this is a wake up call for Silvia and she leaves her sorry husband once and for all.
It also bothered me that both Bastardo and the Putz are trying to get Lalito. Little boys should live very happy lives and not be treated as a pawn. The poor little thing bonded with JC and then lost him. His good for nothing grandfather fakes heart attacks at the drop of hat and the Putz wants him to trap Eva.

Melinama what a wonderful recap. Rebeca's friend is Angelica. So Angelica and Rebeca cooked this up to get Pluti to keep seeing Rebeca. Loved her fake crying and as Rebeca said she is quite the actress. Pluti will never be rid of Rebeca.
Hate, Hate, Hate, the Bastardo. Have I said how much I hate him. I really wish that Silvia would leave him and live with Helena and Lalito. So old Bastardo is an abuser. Paula called that one. She was right about the punches and fractures. And poor Helena witnessed the beating but doesn't remember it. How horrible to beat your wife in front of your child. And then to lose the baby. Silvia should have called the police. What protection did the Bastardo give, humiliation. He has never treated either Silvia or Helena well at all. It's always been his way or the highway. I hope this time he ends up in jail for kidnapping Lalito. If Lalito is smart, somewhere along the line he will call either Silvia or Helena and tell them where he is.
Loved Eva here too. For a guy, she sure thinks like a woman and what it is to be a woman. I agree with Guera how he understands women even though he's a guy. I like how he gets people to open up to him. He must have taken after his mother as far as the actress part goes. I also loved how he treated his mother in the beginning of this TN.
I hope Mimi comes up with those fake papers soon for Eva. I can't wait till she takes her position as a shareholder and really sticks it to Pluti. This should be fun.

Didn't see this as I was writing my Refugio recap. But after learning the subject matter, perhaps I'm glad I missed it. The gradual erosion of a woman's self-esteem in an abusive situation is very hard to watch....and to live.

It is so sad to watch Silvia rationalize why she stayed. It is sad and it is exactly on target. Victims of abuse often stay and believe that they deserve the abuse that they are receiving. Silvia said that she thought her love could change him. She probably still thinks that he hasn't changed because she hasn't loved him well enough.

Are we sure Eva made that story up? Maybe JC really did witness something like that as a kid - probably not his parents, but maybe a real aunt and uncle, or something at a friend's house.

Thank goodness Bastardo Eduardo is plotting to kidnap Lalito. Now, Sylvia has no choice but to give up on him ever changing. But she needs psychiatric support after all those years taking his crap.
I actually liked seeing Fernando and Marcela together tailing Kevin. At least they were working together and Fernando was taking charge - though he was an idiot to just haul off and hit the music instructor without asking questions first. I enjoyed his pitiful attempt at face-saving in front of the class.
On the censorship of "maricon," maybe it's because the TN airs early in the so-called "family hour" in the United States? I personally like hearing the authentic words that a character would actually use, even if the use is insulting and insensitive. But I can understand folks with young children wanting to be protected from it on a non-cable show that airs early.

The two most popular teams are Club America of Mexico City (DF) and Chivas of Guadalajara. Immigrants often display their emblems on cars, shirts, etc. - watch for it. America's emblem is a yellow soccer ball with a red "CA" in the middle. Chivas' emblem is a shield with red and white vertical stripes.
The two teams are huge rivals, and "El Classico" is their annual match, a big event akin to the Army-Navy game. It's indicative of Mexican culture. The norteños feel like the chilangos (people from DF) think they're superior because they're from the sophisticated big city. And the chilangos tend to think of norteños as uneducated barbarians. So the soccer rivalry is really a rivalry of the two cultures (even though Guadalajara isn't that far north - they'll root for anything that's not DF!).
Since Camil always plays a sophisticated son of DF (which he is), he is always portrayed as an America fan. His worst TN spotlighted the rivalry between his Club America and the costar's Chivas. Sylvia is probably at or near 60, so the idea of divorce would have been alien to her during Helena's childhood. Also, how many people here have heard about couples "staying together for the sake of the children" despite constant fighting, infidelity, or even physical abuse? A child is infinitely better off not growing up around that.

I agree with the other commenters that Ed's hatred for his daughter has not been adequately explained. Perhaps they were close before he attacked his mother, and after that she was afraid of him, thus reminding him of his dastardly deed.

I have never seen these door locks that work both sides with a key. Interesting disregard for home fire hazards. But they seem common in telenovelas so they must really exist.
Was in Egypt staying with a friend this spring, and all of their doors lock this way. She accidently got locked into another friend's place that way, and had to call around to all the roomates to finally find one who could come and let her out.
Great recap Melinama! Silvia's story was so sad, but hopefully by finally saying what happened to her out loud, it will be the first step towards freeing herself from Bastardo.

Mil, Helena was a child in the playpen when he caused Silvia's miscarriage. She wasn't more than two and a half years old. I have never heard of a man who is truly close to a child of that age, especially a girl.
She didn't remember this and it doesn't sound as though she witnessed anything beyond verbal abuse since then. Not that verbal abuse isn't bad enough because one remembers that a lot longer.

Thanks mucho. I haven't seen this episode yet because I had to watch my fave Chehon on the finale of So You Think You Can Dance, but now I know I'll need to watch it with my finger on the FF button. The abuse stuff is just too hard to take.
UA, I'll disagree on men not being close to toddler girls. When one of my nieces was age about 1-2, my sister and her family lived with my parents for a year. My dad and his little granddaughter got on like hotcakes. They were like best buddies; it was so cute. She'd wait for him to come home from work and run to the door to greet him, and he'd play with her the whole evening and read her books and she'd "help" him brush his teeth. They were both DEVASTATED when my BIL found a new job and my sister's family moved away. But then, my dad is a nice guy who loves his family. I can't see Bastardo getting really attached to someone that way; he just uses people.

Is it one of those abuse victim things, like "maybe if I do everything right and make him happy he will change and everything will be better"? I hope Bastardo drops dead. I don't even care if he gets a just punishment, I don't want to watch him abuse people any longer.

I think Silvia also was explaining that she did not want Helena to be a child without a father and be ridiculed. Ironic that time has passed and Silvia still had to address this situation with her grandchild.

Going back to the light, I remember Mimi encouraging Juan Carlos in the beginning when she told him his mother is a great actress and she knows her son must also be capable of great acting because he is her son. I love Mimi. And Juan Carlos is pulling it off like his mother's son. He really is revealing his feminin side.
I still love it when he can't seem to remember where his heels are and gets tangled up in office chair legs. Great slap-stick that this actor is pulling off.

Like many other women who have suffered spousal abuse, Silvia has been fooled into thinking that if she only does what pleases her husband he will stop abusing her. 30+ years later she is still hoping. I've seen this in action and it's truly horrible.
Silvia is also afraid to be on her own. It's partly from toxic shame about divorce and the rest from change from the status quo.
