Weekend Discussion: Photo Essay; Separated at Birth (or just close relatives)?

When watching telenovelas or describing them to non-viewing friends, do you ever end up saying anything like "He would remind you of Brad Pitt!" (or whoever)?  The more I watch, the more I see this happening.

It never stops amazing me how modern communications makes for a homogenization of standards, especially with regard to looks and the decisions that can lead to as to who gets famous.  Movies and television are now so international that most of the following pairs don't seem accidental to me:

William Levy and James Dean:

Sebastian  Rulli and Brad Pitt:

Yadhira Carillo and Sophia Loren:

Gabriel Corrado (Argentina) and Chris Noth:

Cesar Evora and Marcello Mastroianni:

Chantal Andere and Nia Vardalos (courtesy of People en Español):

Flavio Medina and Tony Randall:

Argelia Atilano (of MQB) and Julia Roberts:

Mark Tacher and Christopher Lambert:

Jacqueline Andere and Reba McEntire:

Roberto Blandon and DeForest Kelly... or Gary Sinise:

Can you think of more?  We can build the next gallery during the discussion.

UA, these are brilliant! You even caught them in the same poses.

I think Isadora in AB looks like Guest Judge Mia Michaels from So You Think You Can Dance.

And the AB kitchen lady...shoot I am forgetting her name...she was Carina in Cuando... looks like Linda Gray from Dallas (the 80s version).

These are really fun. Thanks for posting them.

Oh my stars! Some of these are so cool - I mean Tacher and Lambert, I so get and Chantal/Via and Flavio/Tony are just spooky.

On a side note, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the SR pic. Having a really frustrating day at work, took a break with an afternoon tea and checking Caray, and you just perked me right up! Gracias, ten times over.

yes, the SR pic is beautiful. Brad Pitt can only wish he looked that good. (Hint, Brad: take a shower)

how about paloma from abismo de pasion and emma stone from superbad and Easy A.

I'll build another list for a future entry.

It's always fun to search for shirtless pix of Sebastian Rulli.

Cesar Evora and Rip Torn.

Hugh Bonneville and Roberto Blandon

Daniela Castro and Carrie Underwood!

UA thanks so much for this thread. I can't think of any pairs yet but hopefully as the weekend goes on, I'll come up with someone.

Urban Anthropologist, I ALWAYS look forward to your weekend presentations, but you have really outdone yourself here! This is fantastico!!!!

That foto of Levy...oh. my. word. He also reminds me of a young Brando with those immensely kissable lips!!!!

Agree that the actor who played Carina in CME does look like Linda Gray from Dallas. I couldn't place who she looked like when I was watching CME, but it came to me much later on in the TN that she was a Gray look alike!!!

Agree that if Pitt shaved; cut his hair, and took a bath he "might" come close to Sebastian, but I will take Sebastian in a heart beat.

I have the good fortune of listening to Argelia on KLVE Spanish radio (Univision product). She is so down to earth and just super. She is funny and wise at the same time and so very humble about being chosen to dance in MQB.

Keep them coming, Urban! This is just great!!! THANK YOU!!!

BTW, my robot word is: ASGughto. Shades of Assgusto that most despicable of fathers!!!

When I show gringa friends a picture of Colunga, they always say, "He looks like Antonio Banderas."

Obviously they haven't taken a good look at Banderas. Fernando Colunga looks more to me like an improved version of the young Michael Douglas.

Alberto Agnesi- he plays Enrique Tovar and Elliott Gould.

cathyx, I've thought that about Alberto Agnesi, too (being an Eliot Gould look alike). Great minds. :))

Urban...will look up the name later, but I often thought that the actor who played "Carolina" in "La Fea Mas Bella" reminded me of "Ginger" on Gilligan's Island. That actor was also in FELS, right?

Thanks!

Brilliant! For once I am home for the weekend and I'm so glad I checked the board. What a great Saturday morning treat. Urban A, thank you so much for taking the time to do this.

No prob. I was planning a different photo gallery but unfortunately the photos I was looking for are either very hard to find or they don't exist. I tried to do a couple of screen captures, but they don't come out that good on my computer.

Evora and Mastroianni -- ooh la la! I'll have to tell my Mom.

Great post Urban! Yes, many Latin celebs have their mainstream look alikes. And you're right, that as concepts of beauty narrow, this will become the case across many cultures. These are wonderful pics, and the eye candy is never unwelcomed! :)

I think Zuria Vega (Refugio, Mar de Amor) looks like a younger Shannen Doherty.

So not like any college professor I work with! Being new to the TN genre, I caught some of Teresa. Easy on the eyes.
I saw the Latin People magazine in Walmart yesterday. I reached to buy it with the shirtless William Levy on the cover and then decided not to. What would people think of me buying that?!

What fab idea! Thank you!!

It was a while before I could scroll past Sebastian Rulli and Brad Pitt, but I made it. Now if we can find a look-alike for Johnny Depp my day will be complete.

I had to laugh at the one of Chantal Andere and Nia Vardalos, because it looks like Nia has her hand on Chantal's shoulder.

I see a very strong resemblance between Jorge Salinas and a very young Raymond Burr, and a casual resemblance between Edith Gonzales and Donna Mills.

Anonymous - Carolina in LFMB (who was also in FELS, yes) is Nora Salinas, and Ginger from Gilligan's Island was Tina Louise. I had my doubts about a resemblance between those two until I refreshed my memory with some pictures, but you're right!

Julie,

Thank you (Nora Salinas/Tina Louise).

:)

This is a great thread! Just last night I was musing on the Gael/Christopher Lambert similarity. Gael could be Greystoke in Spanish. In Eva, I noticed that Helena's ex-husband resembles a young Gere.

I like Jacqueline Andere for Holland Taylor, Charlie's mom in Two and a Half Men.

OMG!!! this is too funny.

The guy who plays Junior in Rosa Diamante so reminds me of Pierce Brosnan in the 80s.

This is such fun. Thank you. Chantal Andere and Nia Vardalos ... yes!

I've always thought that Veronica Castro looked like a Dynasty era (or before) Joan Collins.

Also Ricardo Dalmacci, whom I've seen only in Telemundo novelas, looks a lot like a Great Gatsby era (the Mia version) Bruce Dern.
