Amor Bravío #36 (Uni 31) Mon 10/1/12

Capitulo 36: Ratas – y Perras – de Dos Patas

Lo del pasado

Camila finds out from Leoncio that no new tractor was purchased.  We see Luzma talking with Andres, missing the bus, and getting grabbed.   Camila confronts Alonssso about the alleged purchase of an alleged tractor. He stops biting his claws [¡Salud!], tries to bullshit his way out of this, fails, then slams his laptop shut and argues with her about this. She finally accuses him of taking advantage of his infarto to manipulate her and tells him she'd rather he no longer be the administrator of the ranch, telling him to pack his things and leave.

Lo de Nuevo

Alonssso's Study:   Continuing where we left off on Friday, they argue. Alonssso almost starts biting his claws again [¡Salud!] but then argues against his previous rants about ownership, telling Camila that the only person who has the right to fire him is Daniel Diaz Acosta, if and when he ever shows up. She therefore has no authority to fire him. He then attempts to threaten to make her petition for divorce impossible, but she tells him that marriage is not just a contract and by the proper definition they were not married in any sense of the word. She confidently points out that the fact that he needed her signature for the money to buy a tractor demonstrates her authority to make decisions for the ranch. We see a tall shadow at the milky glass windows in the other door as she exits and Alonssso sits down in shock. Andres is the eavesdropper.

El Diablo's Bedroom:  He is on the phone with his henchman, Julian, who has no news to report. He is standing outside Rafael's place and has seen no movement. Unconcerned, El Diablo signs off, saying to keep him informed. He barely ends the call when Hissadora enters in a breezy attitude and an animal-print dress several years too young for her.

Isadora:    Good day.
Dionisio:    How are you going to explain to me that you transferred 2.5 million pesos without your son's authority?
Isadora (sitting down):    Well, in the first place, don't talk to me that way. I'm not Augustina.
Dionisio:    Where is the rest of the money?
Isadora:    I don't owe you any explanations. Get accustomed to the idea that the money will be used to placate Leoncio and to secure our future.
Dionisio (darkly):    Tell me the truth, Isadora.
Isadora:    I just said I'm not going to discuss details. (music gets darker, with more emphasis)
Dionisio:    Did it not occur to you that to play with me, you could be signing your own death warrant?
Isadora (unfazed):    Oh, please, I'm not capable! The only person here capable of playing with the feelings of a fool is you. If Augustina knew what you were doing with her she'd die.
Dionisio:    Not bad enough for a heart attack, surely.
Isadora:    You think that she was really grateful? [en el fondo]
Dionisio:    Really, pity me. (chuckles)
Isadora:    You should have seen it yesterday. With all the good things she said about you five of the eight women at the meeting pledged to purchase retirement packages. Some handed over checques!
Dionisio:    Who ever thought so? And that is precisely why we will celebrate. (turns off his cell phone as she gets up and sits in his lap. They embrace as the string section goes Bernard Herrmann/Alfred Hitchcock on us) I need you to trust me. (expertly caresses her lips with his finger) He who controls his body and his mind controls all.

They begin devouring each other and we withdraw from this scene as taste, decorum, and the censor dictate.

Iglesia:   Outside, Augustina and Amanda talk with Padre Anselmo, whom we realize is Padre Baldomero's replacement. He is much younger, appears to be in good health, and looks appropriately empathetic. They mention Tolentino, who is the sacristain.

Bar:    Tolentino goes in for a drink. The bartender is surprised to see him and assumes it's cosas de mujeres, as does the singer we hear in the background. Tolentino is far too young to us to be singing these kind of blues.

Cabaña de Camila:   She comes back, a bit annoyed.

Hacienda, Corridor:   Alonssso adjusts his tie before knocking on Ximena's door. She answers in what is either a sleep garment or a sundress and they talk in mild flirtation about going into town.  After making some bitchy remark about Camila, she tells him to give her a minute to change, then closes the door. He looks nervous as sprays his hands with something and rubs them together. [Will he try to boink her from within a plastic bubble? We'll need ringside seats for that.]

Outside:    As Don Vicente sings the love theme, Andres awaits by the car as Camila comes out wearing.... a sleeveless strap-over-left-shoulder spandex dress. The color matches his new traje de charro. Although the shawl she carries is nice both it and the dress are at odds with her footwear, but he does not appear to notice that. After a brief flirtation she tells him she will drive. “It's time to pick up the reins of my life,” she says as she goes to the driver's side and he opens the door for her. As we hear ♪♫ cuando manda el corazón ♫♪ they drive off and we realize they are going to Luzma and Pablo's wedding.

Kitchen:   Piedad takes a call from Irene who is calling to wish Luzma a happy birthday. Piedad tells her she went out to the church. Irene then looks at the dress.

Road:  Andres congratulates Camila on taking her life back and admits overhearing the argument between her and Alonssso. She is not pleased at the prospect that he may have been eavesdropping, but he tells her that they were shouting and he couldn't help hearing. He talks about how good it is that she is getting negative people out of her life. She has her eyes so firmly fixed on the road one would think she were afraid to look at him.

Viviana's Apartment / Rafael's Apartment:    She and returns with Aaron, then calls Rafael. She suggests that they come to his place, but he insists they stay put so El Diablo doesn't see Aaron. After they end the call and he exits his home he has no idea that Julian has been watching from nearby.

Civil Registry Office:   Los Hermanos Albarrán await. Camila and Andres arrive and Mariano greets them, mistaking Andres for Camila's husband. She is a little nervous as she corrects him but Andres does not look displeased to be mistaken for such. Bratgirl rudely remains seated, impolitely not requesting an introduction to the arriving couple. Pablo is worried that something has gone wrong, suggesting that Tolentino may have interfered with the situation because he's in love with Luzma. Camila tells him not to worry, that nobody and nothing will interfere with this wedding. Mariano agrees. Andres looks at her hopefully. We – the flies on the wall – know better.

Street:    Rafael must be writing a chapter in his head because has cannot detect that Julian is following him at such close range. Julian has his cell phone out and after Rafael enters Viviana's place he photographs the door (presumably the number on it).* He walks away after.

Viviana's Apartment:  Rafael and Aaron greet each other. Aaron is happy to do this favor for his brother. [For the moment; he has no clue what he's fallen into.] Viviana enters her bedroom and sees that someone has been there. She shakes in fear and loathing.

Civil Registry Office:    Irene arrives, concerned because she has not seen Luzma. Everyone begins getting worried. Bratgirl suggests that Leoncio may have caused a problem because he opposed the wedding. Andres lends Irene his cell phone so she can call Tolentino and Mariano lends his cell to Camila so she can call Piedad.

Viviana's Apartment:  Rafael and Aaron enter her bedroom and find her crying. She starts saying “He was here, it was him, it was him.  He was in my house”

Civil Registry Office:    Neither phone call provided helpful information; Piedad thought that Luzma went to church. Camila asks Irene whether there was some other friend Luzma may have gone to and she answers that Luzma only confided in her. She had entrusted her with the bridal dress. Pablo announces he will go looking for Tolentino. Bratgirl looks like she knows too much as she exchanges glances with Iago.

Viviana's Apartment:   Aaron gets Viviana to do some deep breathing to calm down. She finally realizes she will have to tell Rafael. The brothers leave her to get herself together and go out into the living room.

Iglesia:  Amanda tells Padre Anselmo that she thinks it will be good for the young people of the town to have a young priest to relate to. Mariano and Pablo enter, the latter demanding to see Tolentino. They tell him that he hasn't been there all day and that they were expecting him; they don't know where he is. Pablo announces that he will find him and make him pay for stealing his fiancée. Mariano excuses his little brother's outburst before they head back out the same door. Padre Anselmo incredulously asks Amanda “Who is that young man and what does he mean 'He stole my fiancée'?” [Ay, Padre, and you thought you'd have an easy time in a sleepy little town.] Meanwhile, outside the church Camila, Irene, and Andres have arrived to meet up with them. Just then Tolentino arrives from another direction and Pablo goes after him before he can even answer for himself. He knocks him down before Mariano and Andres can restrain him. He struggles against the two older, more experienced guys as Tolentino looks up stupidly.

Barn:   As the figure that suspiciously resembles Leoncio departs, Luzma cries and coughs. After the door closes she crawls through the hay, taking the plank of wood to prop it up against the door. If Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler were here they'd know she was a rape victim.

El Diablo's Lair:   A taxi cab arrives outside as El Diablo and Hissadora rub scales. Outside Augustina notices Hissadora's car then rings the doorbell, surprising the reptiles at the end of their mating. He gets out of bed. Hissadora protests that the maid can answer the door, but he insists on doing so himself. He opens the door and says “Augustina!” loud enough to shock Mama Dragon out of the bed. While El Diablo listens to Augustina's jealous drilling and tries to decide what to say Hissadora hurriedly dresses and makes the bed. He admits that she is there. As Augustina has a jealous hissy fit, Hissadora appears, holding a small bouquet of flowers. She tells Augustina she is there because El Diablo asked her to help him prepare a special dinner for her to celebrate her success with the retirement scam. He's in his robe because he was bathing and dressing for the occasion.  Augustina then apologises, saying she had never thought anyone would do such a thing for her, and that she had suspected them of mocking her, as her ex had -- with one of her best friends. [Listen to your suspicions, foolish woman.]  Hissadora says something about she'd die rather than do that.  El Diablo then opens the gate to let her in so as not to provide the neighbors with the second act of their free comedy of terrors.

Street:   Pablo et al have determined that Tolentino is drunk and that he did nothing and knows nothing. This does not prevent Tolentino from delivering a taunt about telling Luzma that it would be a mistake to marry Pablo. Mariano holds him back from another assault for this insult. Camila suggests that she and Andres return to La Malquerida to look for Luzma while los Albarrán continue looking in town. Mariano agrees to the plan and thanks her for the assistance. They head off in opposite directions, Andres persuading Tolentino to follow them.

Barn:   Luzma remains curled into a near-foetal position propped against a hay bale, still crying long enough for the sun to have shifted position.

Viviana's Apartment:   She has finally told Rafael and Aaron what happened. The latter tells her that she must confront her fears to rid herself of them.

El Diablo's Lair:  Hissadora and El Diablo apologise for the misunderstanding. [Author's note: It astonishes me that there is yet room for Augustina to become more pathetic.].   Hissadora announces her departure but El Diablo persuades her to stay long enough to witness the documents relating to Augustina's position in this plan. As Augustina exits to the dining room in front of them they roll their eyes behind her back.

Viviana's Apartment:   She tells the brothers that after three years of being Bruno's girlfriend he changed completely after she married him. He got involved with people she didn't trust, people who hurt others. He denied everything at first, continued to lie, then began hurting her. After a while he began hitting her and looked for every excuse to do so. She didn't have the strength to leave. When she was seven months' pregnant he accused her of cheating on him with a neighbor. This time his beating put her in hospital, the baby was born prematurely... and died just as he was put in her arms. She cries, Aaron looks shocked, and Rafael embraces her.

El Diablo's Lair:  In the dining room Augustina sits at the table as El Diablo takes out the documents, pens, etc. Hissadora smirks as Augustina puts on her glasses. She questions whether there should be a notary present and he brushes that off. She stupidly signs everything.  Hissadora signs as El Diablo brings in a bottle of champagne and three glasses. The cork flies and lands in Augustina's lap. Hissadora bs's her that this is lucky because she will now marry for the third time. El Diablo pours and the music begins to sound like a cross between Psycho and The Twilight Zone as Augustina says “To our new business” and El Diablo says “To us, my love” and we know exactly whom he is really talking to.

Viviana's Apartment:   Rafael says they must do something about Bruno, but Viviana is afraid to. Aaron insists they can't do nothing. They must go to the police.

Upscale Restaurant:  Ximeana is impressed; Alonssso correctly speculates that she didn't think she'd find a place like it in their town. The hostess checks his reservation, then asks “Señor y Señora Lazcano” to follow her to their table. Ximeana is amused. As they approach their table we see that she is wearing a fine example of stolen ramerawear complete with a sleeveless spandex dress and dominatrix boots. We wonder whether the jewelry is also stolen goods. She appears impressed with Alonssso's manner. We hope to be present when she learns the uncomfortable little truth.

Road:   Andres drives the car as he and Camila return to La Malquerida and speculate on what could have happened to Luzma. He tells her that he feels for Pablo to have expect things to go one way when something else happens. Camila realizes that this means something bigger and asks him what he means. He tells her about his wedding day and we get a flashback of the glass dance floor breaking. She asks whether he is married and he tells her that his wife died in an accident years later. But at least he knows whereas Pablo doesn't know what happened. She asks him for his cell phone, which she uses to call Piedad.

Kitchen:   Piedad is mopping the floor when Camila's call comes in. Piedad starts getting worried, telling her that this is the second call she's had about Luzma. Camila tells her they are on their way back and they'll talk when they get there. As Piedad hangs up the phone Leoncio enters and casually takes a pitcher of something out of the fridge. The brute drinks right out of the pitcher as Piedad slowly begins to panic about her daughter. He has the gall to say that it's not likely that anything's happened.

River:  To the sound of tragic opera music Luzma walks to the edge and copies Virginia Woolf.

Upscale Restaurant:  Komodo Jr and Damaged Goods flirt and kiss at the table. There is a new theme for them.

Avances

It looks like a few of the gentlemen will try to "push push in the bush..."

*Did someone forget that Viviana lived in a gated community?

Before I even read this recap Urban, can I just say that I was bawling like a baby through half of this episode. Between Luzma and Vivi I was a mess! I have to take a deep breath before diving into the recap (which I know will be wonderful) and reliving it. Whew!

A marvellous recap, UA, with a delightful mix of formality and snark, as in " we withdraw from this scene as taste, decorum, and the censor dictate" and Augustina's "surprising the reptiles at the end of their mating."

Like you, I noted that the color of the so-called dress that Camila wore to the wedding matched D'Andres's suit, but what struck me more was how tasteless the dress was and how unattractive it made Camila look. (D'Andres apparently didn't agree, but....)

Speaking of dress, I was also somewhat surprised that Augustina didn't seem more dismayed to see Dionisio in a dressing gown, given the fact that Hissadora was there. Why wouldn't he have bathed and dressed before Hissadora slithered in?

I was also surprised that Luzma drowned herself. The more I thought about it, though, the more it made sense, given what she's probably been taught about virginity coupled with her insecurities about social class and Pablo's love. I wonder whether she'll succeed in her attempt to drown herself.

Urban- Loved your descriptions of the reptiles coupling. I needed that laugh after this episode. Fabulous recap all around. Many thanks Urban.

Tonight's episode was brought to you by RameraWear™:

Ximena is modeling a piece from our Pretty Woman Collection, complete with gaudy jewelry and tacky over the knee boots.

Camila is modeling a piece from our Cap'n Caveman & the Teen Angels collection. We call this dress the "Betty."

and for mature women, Isadora is modeling a piece from our Kougar collection. Kougar...when you want to wear the very best.

Nice work on the recap, Urban. I was shocked by the turn taken by the Luzma storyline. Vivi, I needed a hanky after seeing the scene with Luzma in the shed.

So, everything points to Leoncio but if it was he, why not show his face? I so hope Luzma's attempt at suicide is unsuccessful!

I am so hooked by this show. I can't with everyday, but every time I see it I am amazed by the chemistry between Silvia and Cristian. WOW!

Thanks again to you and all the late show recappers. I am loving the show and your wonderful recaps.

EJ

I found myself looking at every guy's pants at the beginning looking for the stripes. Did Leo have stripes? I was also working on school work and missed that part.

TN regulars - does uncle rape appear frequently? That was almost over-the-top for me.

Cindy

Wow, UA, thank you. Your style is brilliant and extremely fast!
I didn't mind Camila's dress as much as the shoes and shawl. Where was Joan Rivers and the fashion police?
I am sad and mad about Luzma and cannot stomach to watch Leonicio anymore. That animal needs to suffer big time!

I don't think we have another suspect in the kidnapping and rape of Luzma; Tolentino would never have done such a thing. I have been thinking that they concealed the perp's identity because the actor playing Leoncio was probably shooting another scene at the time or wasn't otherwise needed on the set that day.

The line about "taste, decorum, and the censor" was borrowed (and slightly paraphrased) from one of my favorite movies, Tom Jones, made in 1963. I love the language of that film and it bugs me that today's youth don't appreciate it.

We will soon see the parents of Mariano, Iago, and Pablo; I think one of the older women in the opening titles is their mother.

My gut is telling me that somebody will rescue Luzma; I am hoping it will be Andres/Daniel or someone else who won't manipulate her.

They have to save Luzma. But that poor girl is going to need some major therapy-- being raped on her 18th birthday, on her planned wedding day, by her uncle! I get a knot in my stomach just thinking what the poor girl is going through. This young actress is too talented (and the fans loved her in Llena de Amor) for them to let her die now. Plus, Leo's evil deed has to be discovered. The secret can't die with her. The question is, how long will she hold on to the secret before she tells anyone.

There was a similar story with the young maid, Iluminada (another name that means light) in Soy tu Duena. She was raped by her mother's boyfriend/the capataz of the ranch. She retreated into herself and I think also tried to end her life, and it took her a while before she finally told everyone 1) that she was raped; and 2) who did it. I can see something similar happening to Luzma.

Although watching the aftermath of that scene was tough, at least they did not show us any of the rape scene. Having that in my head would have been too much. I can still see the scene in STuD, and even then they didn't show much.

I think Leoncio was wearing stripey pants and I saw the bottom of the shawl in one of the scenes. I just hope Luzma doesn't become embarazada (of course if she does and they do a DNA test they can prove Leoncio was the culprit).

What gave it away was the hole in the pants and the hem of his shawl. It's definitely Leoncio.

The water will wash away most of the DNA evidence, assuming that this town's police have the technology to find it under normal circumstances. Either way it will be a long time before anyone knows the truth because Luzma will be traumatized and Piedad will be too afraid.

Which will allow Leoncio to get away with this again.

Urban- I didn't get to see this epi last night, but your descriptions were so great it was as if I watched it. Poor Luzma.I really hope she doesn't die either. That Leonicio, maybe Hissadora and the Diablo will get rid of him.

I hope Vivi spills about who she thinks was in her room while she was gone. She will really need some help.

Why did they bring Rafa's brother there? Won't he be in worse danger than if he had stayed where he was?

UA-What a painful episode to recap. You handled it with care and aplomb.

At least the horror of what was happening to Luzma was offset by the hysterical antics of Hissadora on the verge of being caught in bed with Gussie's novio. Gussie is so beguiling and clueless--a perfect foil for El Diablo. I'm sure it's a ponzi scheme he's running on her. He really doesn't have a steady income right now and he was righteously indignant to find out Hissyfit didn't deposit the whole amount.

BTW--Camila in her argument with Alonsomenotanymore was threatening to cut off his salary, saying that he needed her signature on checks for everything having to do with the ranch. That shut up his piehole for a hot second. Ximena is going to be his solace, not Mamadragon.

The looks D'Andres was giving Cam & Mar during their introduction were priceless--he thought he was getting to her after that kissy conversation in the car, but now he might have a strong rival after all. I'm with everybody else. How come these two families have never met? The two biggest bull-raising ranchos in the region, living right next door to each other, where have they been?

The handing over of the cell phone in the car going home was another excuse to see some physical interaction between our two lovebirds-to-be. Camila was definitely affected.

Luzma has people around her who will help her through this, but her attacker has to be identified and imobilized first. Her mother at this point is not a confidant. I hope she tells Camila early rather than later. Pablo will be the last to know. As tn law goes, she will believe she is no longer pure enough to marry Pablo and the separation will ensue.

Urban, you ROCK as usual and Anon207, you are the best! Loved your analyses from yesterday, too.

Mil gracias!!

I'll be in the minority here on Camila's outfit. In real life that dress would be wildly inappropriate for attending a daytime wedding, especially the wedding of a younger girl you don't want to overshadow. In TN terms it was great. Sure, I'd never wear cute little furry boots with a skin-tight short dress, but we know by now that Silvia Navarro's heroines always have a style of their own, and I thought the fur-feather-neutral color theme was funky and cool. And the shawl with its long fringe was the perfect cover-up.

Did anyone else love the way that D'Andres went around to open the driver-side door for her and especially how he closed it so quietly and gently? On the other hand, I would think that the driving situation most likely to give her PTSD flashbacks would be conversing with a handsome passenger to whom she's very much attracted, so I think he should have stayed mum on the trip.

I caught those looks D'Andres was giving Camila and Mariano too. It's always seemed as if Mariano would be the perfect rival for Camila's love.

US, great recap per usual. I loved the :Hissadora enters in a breezy attitude and an animal-print dress several years too young for her."

I agree with the others that it was a difficult episode to watch. My eyes were tearing when Vivi told the brothers how her baby died in her arms. Bruno deserves a nasty anvil.

I'm going out on a limb here that when Aggie's husband cheated on her with her "best friend", that she meant Agatha and therefore Dandreas will not be Cami's primo but Ximena's medio hermano.

Sorry but of course I meant "UA". I'll just call you Urban from now on...

Thanks for this nifty recap UA. Well done.

I haven't commented this past week but feel the urge to toss in my thoughts today. Although Leoncio seems to be the obvious rapist I think there are several reasons to think that it wasn't he.

The fact that the rapist left her alive makes me think that it wasn't him.

He's crude and abusive but I don't think that he would rape his own niece.

I think he considers himself like a father to her. (Not a good father, mind you.)

He gave her a nice watch for her birthday.

He seems more interested in Natalia.

The rapist's belly didn't look large enough to be Leoncio's.

I don't think Leoncio is sophisticated enough to acquire use chloroform.

My money is on Yago.

Also I'm afraid that was the last we'll see of Luzma alive. I truly hope I'm wrong about this.

Carlos

I hope you're wrong about Luzma, Carlos.

Loriloo, I just don't think they'll make Daniel's mother into someone who not only slept with her "true love" while both were married with other people, but also had sex with Agustina's husband around the same time. Either Daniel is Agatha's husband's child or Camila's dad was not Don Daniel's brother.

Almost a complete tangent, but does anyone else watch this on Hulu and see the ad for various Spanish-language films, including Mancora? I keep getting distracted by the image of the elderly man letting himself fall off a coastal cliff, and I finally realized it's because it's just a few minutes' walk away from my late father's condo in Lima. Very disconcerting.

Great call, Carlos, I'll bet you are right. We all know how disgusting Tio Leo is so why wouldn't they have shown him clearly as the rapist? And Yago did voice his enthusiasm for Luzma.

I'm thinking she won't die but will be too ashamed to marry Pablo, as others have noted.

Terrific job UA. This must have been a difficult episode to recap, but you did a really great job.

The actress playing Luzma did such a fantastic job with her part in this episode. Part of the reason it was so difficult to watch was because she made it so real. Her acting and crying were so believable. Not over the top at all. It did look like it was Tio who did it, but they didn't show the face, so we can't be certain.

I'll laugh if Alonso has performance problems with Ximena too. Then she will have to know that it's not Camila who's crazy.

Juanita, I agree with you about Dion answering in his robe. Aggie clearly doesn't want to see reality.

I also thought that Camila's shoes were odd, to say the least. Maybe it's fashionable to wear shoes like that in the country. It's the same on Abismo. I also thought I heard Cam saying something to Dan about them wearing the same matching color as she approached him.

Carlos,
Interesting theory about Yago. He hasn't shown himself to be horrible yet, but I guess it could be him. And Tio would be the obvious person, and usually they don't go with the obvious one.

Alonso will have ED problems.

Sebastian won't. Just a guess.

Agatha wasn't Augustina's friend. Agatha was "the other woman." Agatha was Amanda's friend.

I don't think Yago is the rapist because he was at City Hall with Pablo, Mariano & the gang.

The guy who plays the new priest, wasn't he Jacinto on MEPS and the field hand on STuD?

Anon207--You nailed every one of your ponderings. Jacinto makes an appealing priest, doesn't he? Enough to make young female confirmitarians have secret fantasies.

Thanks for this recap UA. As Vivi noted b/t Luzma and Vivi this was tough and thanks for soldiering through it.

Carlos, though I want to believe it wasn't Tio, who can it be? Yago was at the ceremony.

EJ - yes I think the chemistry b/t Syliva & CdlF is great!

Cindy - it does depend on the TN but I haven't seen a family member rape another. But family "friends" or those as close as family do.

Vivi - when you consider what this day was supposed to be for Luzma and what it was it was heart wrenching. That's why I think its tio as an abuser would do that.

Anon207 yes the new priest was the guy in those roles you mentioned.

Urban - fantastic recap as always. Loved your title.

I found the scenes with Luzma very disturbing. Although they didn't show Leoncio's face, I definitely think it's him. Remember, he was keeping a deep dark secret that died with El Padrecito. The thought suddenlty occurred to me, is it possible he's Luzma's father? and Leoncio's Terrible Secret is that he raped his sister Piedad? I seem to recall violent abuses to women referred to from his past. hmmmmmm

I have to chime in on Camila's dress -- AWFUL! Hoochie mama, to say the least. Absolutely from RameraWear! The only thing I like from her get-up was the coverup, because it covered up that hideous dress. ugh. I really did like that coverup though, with another outfit.

Iago... that makes some sense. It would explain the conspiratorial glances between him and Bratgirl... and would also make her worthy of a death sentence by telenovela law. A woman who conspires in the rape of another woman -- and an innocent girl like Luzma -- deserves the deepest ring in Dante's Inferno.

Mariano's ranch is "next door"; Luzma was grabbed early in the morning. The ceremony was probably scheduled for at least three hours later. Iago would know about Leoncio from Pablo. This is not such a stretch.

As to whether it could be Leoncio I don't rule that out. Luzma is creeped out by him and he doesn't want her to marry Pablo. This objection makes no sense when they have the support of Mariano and Camila.

As to Camila's dress, I just don't like the color. I would like that dress in any strong color like peacock blue, red, purple, or black -- and definitely with better shoes.

I haven’t read the recap yet. Looking forward to it.

First, let me say that my boyfriend’s back!!! I am so excited to see Alejandro Ruiz. He’s the actor I’ve been waiting for to show up, but didn’t want to say because I knew he played a priest and in the beginning I thought he might show up to help Padre B or facilitate Cam’s annulment until PB started putting himself in danger and risked dying—and then revealing his coming would have been spoilerish. Jacinto (MEPS) is my favorite character in any TN—so far. He was also in CME.

I do wonder why they didn’t show Leo’s face. He seems the obvious choice, so there wouldn’t be a “big reveal” when it became known it was him. I’m with Carlos about the size of his stomach. I didn’t see the poncho so I thought that was another clue it wasn’t him, but it seems that I just missed that. I didn’t miss the hole in his pants, which would be something Leo would have. But why wait until she was 18? If it was Iago, he would have done it partly because it was her wedding day. Iago, however, seems to be accounted for, but do we really know the timeline. Her abduction/rape could have been before the scene in Pablo’s room or after that and before the wedding.

I was blown away by the actor who plays Luzma. What an awesome job. I agree she kept it real, didn’t go over the top. I’m hoping her walking into the water is a need to wash her rapist’s evil off her like some rape victims who take showers afterwards. But I’m afraid it’s a suicide attempt. Here’s hoping she’s saved.

If Luzma does die, would Pablo’s family try and steer him towards Bitchgirl?

Love the scene where Isa steals a kiss from Dio before walking back into his apartment and his reaction. Speaking of Isa, I didn’t see the ep where she killed PB, but from the descriptions you all gave, I’m wondering if she was transferring imagining her grandfather-aged husband, or perhaps she was repeating what she had done to him and was enjoying the memory.

Utah: In the car, I also thought it odd Dan kept talking to Cam while she was driving, especially since she seemed to look so tense.

UA, thank you for a very entertaining recap (as usual). I enjoyed all of your descriptions of the wardrobe blunders as well as your subtle sense of humor about Andres not noticing the clash between Camila's sleeveless strap-over left shoulder spandex dress and her shoes. That cracked me up! As tight and short as that dress was, what hot blooded man would notice shoes :-)? Other gems: 1) re: being mistaken for Cami's hubby: Andres does not look displeased to be mistaken for such. 2) Rafael must be writing a chapter in his head because he cannot detect that Julian is following him at close range. 3) They begin devouring each other ...... etc.

Despicable Leonicio's meaness is not entertaining. Since there's more than enough bad guys stirring up trouble, I sure hope he's killed off well before the final chapters of the novela.

UA - fine recap of a very tough episode. This was a sad night to watch. Appreciate the snark - my favorite: “surprising the reptiles at the end of their mating.”

I thinking someone discovers Luzma before she drowns and she doesn’t remember who raped her because she was drugged. Leoncio has been lusting after his niece, and with Piedad he wasn’t worried about her whereabouts when all along he's been watching her every move. Earlier, he alluded to some deep sin. I think he did it, and that he has raped before.

Silly Augustina. She knows damn well Hisssadora can’t cook; I think Hisssadora said so herself when she was gushing over Piedad’s cooking.

SN has a great figure and can wear anything she wants, but I agree with the naysayers about the dress. The way Camila covered up with the shawl made me think the character had second thoughts about the dress too. Why flaunt your curves and then cover up? At least the shawl should’ve been a contrasting color.

Eloquent and tastefully done as usual UA. When LUzma was kidnapped, a corner of Leo's sarape was revealed as she was rendered unconscious and obviously dragged off. If anyone has rewind, maybe they can confirm this.
CAthyx, I have to agree with you that this was almost over the top disturbing. I hope that the inevitable TN resolution will be used to pass along some public service messages, either directly or indirectly.
VivDC, I also was brought to tears over the darkness of Luzma's drama.
Since Luzma has an important role I don't think she will end up dead. My guess is that this is the classic rape victim scenario where they want to "wash away" the evil perpetrated on them.
Just a guess. But for me, I will be happy if and when there is justice!

Foxy:
I want Leoncio GONE. After Vivi's analysis AND the striped pants, I think Leoncio must be the culprit.

Urban Anthropologist—Which circle of Hell for Leoncio? I vote for the seventh, reserved for the VIOLENT.

Rape is always an act of violence and we know that Leoncio also murdered the dear Padre. I'll admit, I am somewhat soothed by the picture of Leoncio in Phlegethon, the river of blood AND fire. And, we know that if he pokes his head above the fiery liquid, a centaur will shoot his face off.

There, I feel better now.

EJ

EJ, Great writing of the visuals of the possible justice for Leo...I think we may need to come up with a new label, as he has lost the friendlier Tio Leo label.

I have unofficially dubbed the former Tio Leo to Tio Leo Sordido when I do my next recap!. Feel free to tag along or come up with your own.

OMGUA, I haven't watched this episode yet, or read your recap, but I HAD to peek to see if Luzme was okay. This is awful! What a bummer for the recapper.

Off to get the car inspected and I will read this, mouth agape, in the waiting room.

Also, Leoncio generally heads for a bottle of Tequila after he's stressed or does a bad thing. This time he goes for water or juice?

Don't brides generally take forever to get dressed? I think that Luzma set out very early yesterday morning.

It would really be a shame if Luzma dies. She is a very talented actress and as Vivi noted, she wowed us as Delicia in LldA.

Carlos

I am wowed by the name "Delicia".

I think by keeping the face secret, but showing all these obviously Leoncio clues (knew she was getting married that day; stalking her for weeks; holey/striped pants; sarape) just hightens the anxiety of the audience. I don't think it's a shocker for anyone that it's Leo.

Iago did not know what Iliana was planning. Her only plan was to tell the Tio the date/plan for the wedding and let him put a stop to it. Iago didn't want to know exactly what she was planning, but Ili was sure it would work and that's why they shared a look when Luzma didn't show. Even Iliana could probably never imagine what the Tio did is rape Luzma. She was likely expecting something like Luzma getting locked in her room, and possibly being slapped around by her uncle a bit. But no one expects something so barbaric. It will be interesting to see how she reacts when she DOES eventually find out what Leoncio did. That will determine whether or not she's evil.

I didn't mind the dress Cami wore. Not really much different than most dresses most tn women wear. At least she was going to a festive event and not the office. ;-) The booties are also very in fashion right now.

I felt nervous for Cami when she was driving. The last time she drove with a passenger, it was a handsome man that she loved, and they were coming from a celebration for their upcoming wedding. And we all know how that ended. This time, she was driving a handsome man who she is falling in love with, to a wedding celebration. Couldn't believe Dan kept chatting to her. She was white knuckled and kept her eyes firmly on the road this time. LOL!

What color of pants was Bruno wearing? My impression was something like the guys in Grease, but that stripe was dark.
Could he have gone looking for Vivi at the ranch and grabbed the nearest girl by herself (and why was that? Why didn't someone give her a ride?) in anger at not finding Vivi?

Luzma was to leave much earlier than Cami and Dan to go to her friends house to get ready. That's why she didn't get a ride into town with them.

Luzma was taken to a barn on the ranch's property. No one else but someone who works on the ranch would know to take her there.

It seemed to me that Luzma, unlike her mother, knew that her uncle was bad news. She didn't like him and only tolerated him because of her mother. I got the sense that Luzma had a feeling that he had unseemly feelings toward her but like most could not compute how truly vile he is.

Leoncio belongs to the villain category I am calling Sleazebags. Full description to come when I put the photo gallery together.

It will be interesting to find out who really kidnapped and sexually assaulted Luzma. I like and agree with UA's opinion. She wrote "I have been thinking that they concealed the perp's identity because the actor playing Leoncio was probably shooting another scene at the time or wasn't otherwise needed on the set that day". That makes sense to me because otherwise if they are going to have us wondering "who done it", why clothe a faceless body in the likeness of Leo? Giving her the watch actually doubles my suspicions. As for what type of man would rape a blood relative? A man with no moral boundries!!
As far as him leaving her alive, he didn't know she was going to excape. Maybe he would have gone back for "seconds".

It's also possible he was too drunk to think even that far ahead.

UA - Many thanks for a fine recap and many good comments.

This is a wrenching and riveting episode. Thanks, all, for the many great comments. I'm getting here late in the day -- not much to add but that I can't wait for tonight.

I hate the rape episode of every telenovela. But if EJ's centaur shows up and shoot off Leo's face, I'll forgive the writers. Maybe Luzma could help the centaur. Could go a long way to help her therapy (for the rape and for seeing a centaur).

But as Utah said, I loved that Andres went around to open the driver's side door for Camila. It's only because there are a few decent men here (Andres, Rafa and Aaron, the boys at the ranch next door that no one has met before) that I can keep watching. I can't believe that Yago would do the deed. He didn't really go along with Bratgirl's plan to break up the kids so rape seems like a big stretch. He may be a snob but not a criminal.

Unlike our Boris and Natasha who, despite being the bad guys here, are providing the comic relief. Whoda thought?
