Amorcito Corazón Discussion #134-138 Oct. 22-26
I hope to have a mini-recap up in a few hours. Thanks for your patience.
Labels: Amorcito
- Jorge downplays the value of Poncho's statue while getting big ol' peso-signs in his eyes. He thought-bubbles to himself that it's QUITE A FIND.
- Horty goes to see a plastic surgeon about a face-lift.
- F5 goes off in a huff about Zoe's new job and she has dinner with Ceci. It's all very above-board, and they both talk to F5 on the phone from their table.
- Jorge wins(?) a trip to Acapulco and convinces Isa to go with him. Fer overhears and is crushed. Sarita disapproves heartily.
- The little Maris tell Doris anyone can see Poncho is crazy about her.
- Fer tells F5 & Ceci that he and Manuela are novios and they are less than thrilled.
- More hijinks with cakes & nuns.
Moncho gets stood up (so he thinks) at the date he neaver had. But sweet little optimist that he is -- when Lucia & one of the ladies from the casa de hogar show up with a cake delivery he decides that Adelita almost got caught and so made up a story for the others. He still thinks that she MEANT to meet him. He was so cute trying to drink his coffee in a sophisticated manner to go with his outfit.
How many times are we going to have this same conversation between Sarita & Isabel about whether it's proper for her to go away for the weekend with an man????
Güera
Thanks Blue Lass!
How annoying that Manuela had to show up at Sofia's grave just when Fer asked Sofia to give him a sign - ugh!
And the avances had Fer announcing in front of everyone that he wanted them as witnesses to his wedding!!!
Moncho was delightful. I'm surprised he didn't pick up a horde of new admirers, sitting there drinking coffee in his dapper outfit with sophisticated style! And then he decides Adelita had to spin a tale so he plays along with it and pretends he ordered the cakes to celebrate Juancho joining and the whole gang working together at the gym. Funny. But Adelita does seem to be seeing his appeal, so it isn't a lost cause.
So Poncho's statue is 16th century and the appraiser Jorge consulted said it's worth about 200,000 pesos, but Jorge told Poncho and Doris it's worth a couple thousand pesos. Snake. I did like watching him get worried when the guy mentioned that someone (named "Smith", I think he said) was looking into the death of the other client, and it wouldn't be pretty for the guilty party when Smith found them.
I wish Marisol had overheard the conversation between Knuckles and the lawyer, when Knuckles asked for help with the paperwork and all, and the lawyer thought he meant hospital/death certificate/funeral stuff and offered to take care of it, and Knuckles was all, "who cares about that? I meant get me my money".
Does Marisol even wonder why Knuckles is always sitting in the waiting room at the hospital, or out and about somewhere else? I can't imagine the hospital wouldn't let him sit in the room with his father if he's dying anyway (no point worrying about germs or anything), so clearly it's his own choice not to be with him.
I wonder why they're throwing in Horny's plastic surgery plotline. She looks like everything that can be pulled and tucked has already been done. The doc should have suggested a new hairstyle and clothes and less dark eyeshadow if she wants to look younger.
How does Isa not notice the red flags and alarm bells all around Jorge? Like when he invited her on the trip, and she said they'd talk about it later, and he said the decision is already made. Ugh. Overbearing and controlling. Who wants to live with that?
In my opinion, expulsion is only a last resort, when the kid being expelled is a serious danger to others or to school property. For lesser infractions, you do something else to encourage better behavior. Madre is worried that if she doesn't make an example of Marisol, the other girls will think they can do whatever they want. Since when are your choices expulsion or anarchy? Whatever happened to lesser punishments, like staying after school to do some sort of chores, or writing extra essays or something? I think that would discourage the students from bad behavior while not depriving anyone of completing their schooling.
Does anyone have the authority to fire Madre? Padre Tio could only roll his eyes about her nonsense.
"I guess Fer"s very pertinent question to Marisol about how can she remain novios with one guy while unable to resist kissing another (who she admits rocks her world), just went in one ear and out the other.
Of course, it just went in one ear and out the other, she is exactly like Fer. He is in the same situation and hasn't clue.

1. how in the world did fer and doris end up in the sack. doesn't really matter but I'm assuming after isa but before manuela.
2.what happended to ceci and zoe?!? he met her first and it seemed like they made a connection. still seems like it's headed that way, but how in the world did she end up with f5?
3. how do doris and poncho know each other?
appreciate the help!
on a sidenote: saw that ricky and barbara are bro/sis, really??? don't know how casting passed that off, but it def made me laugh.

1. Fer was with Doris shortly before he met Isa. They met working on a project together (she sells flooring). He thought it was a fling that was over and done. She came to DF to find him and try to keep it going, then she pretended she was pregnant as an attempt to keep him. She was pretty awful back then. She's since mellowed out a lot and given up on marrying Fer, but has grown attached to the family and is afraid to tell Fer she's faking the pregnancy and ruining the whole loving family situation she has now. Plus, she's gotten really attached to the idea of being a mom. She needs a shrink, in fact Fer tried to send her to one, but she's resistant. Fer and Doris have not been intimate since the story has been going on...hard to believe since it seems so long and she is still fake pregnant.
2. Cecilio tried desperately to find Zoe. Zoe dithered, then was going to go back to him, but ran into his sister at his apartment and thought it was a girlfriend and misunderstanding, etc., didn't go back. By the time that was straightened out, she had already gotten together with Felipe (not knowing the two of them were connected). Then she was going to leave Felipe, but found she was pregnant, so decided to try to make things work with him.
3. I think Doris and Poncho met at the constructora office. They did a little scheming together and became friends.
Also, Ricky and Barb are half siblings, and he is obviously much older.
Can I ask why most of the adults in relationships are acting like children? And Fer's attempted wedding has to be one of the dumbest things I've seen in a TN. Though I could pretend to care, Isa and Fer are so painfully stupid; they actually beat Dam and Elisa over on Abismo.
Julia - it is sad that Isa can't/won't realize Jorrible is bad news. She knows he's controlling just wait until she finds out he's a liar, crook, and murderer.
Audrey - ITA that our protagonists leave too much to be desired.
Someone needs to smack F5. Though his behavior does replicate what happens in real life, his jealousy of Zoe when HE IS THE CHEATER is nauseating.
RP - Glad someone else thought Manny's pants look like something from another planet.
Hello, jlk. And Julia, wow I didn't know rIcky and Barf are half sibs. Where does Willy fit in?
Willy and Juancho visit a bishop and he gives Juancho a note requesting the true Nunwitch, Sor Ernestina, allow Marisol back to school. [side note - Julia ITA w/your assessment of this completely out of control Madre.]
The boys go to Fer's to try to give Marisol the note. Doris blocks that from happening. I enjoy Doris but this is at least the second time she has keep Marisol from Juancho. She needs to stop that as well as her baby rouse.
Mr. C. and F5 create a great rec letter for Isa.
Fer/Isa escalate their fight about marrying people they don't love. The reaction from Fer's BFF's are hilarious as they ask what has possessed him to do this. Lucia gets called in to try to stop Fer's foolishness. For some reason F5 believes Fer won't go through w/the wedding and suggests he, Lucia, Zoe, and Mr. C. wait outside. Isa goes to the office b/c she has volunteered to be a witness. By the end of the episode Fer, EWM, Susie, and Isa are in front of the justice of the peace.
The preview has Manny giving the pen to Fer so he can sign his (and the Maris) death sentence. Will this madness be stopped? Do we have enough compassion toward the leads to care?
Please add as you see fit. I couldn't figure out what Fer and Isa were thought-bubbling.
Every day I wish Isa would get that pained, strained smile off her face. She does this slightly squinted eye thing that makes her look like she's just trying so hard to think, but she's too stupid. Which is true, but not at all endearing.
This week I decided to get an early start on falling behind. But I did my Spanish homework a week early, so I can lounge around with the DVR and the telenovela cat all weekend.
Poncho turned the statue over to an antique dealer to sell on consignment. This guy said it was worth ten thousand. I don't think he's crooked -- he just doesn't know how old & valuable it is. So what will happen when Jorge tries to get it from Poncho?????
Güera
Fer and Isa are like two 6 year olds playing double dare ya. I don't think I've ever seen such an infantile leading couple before - it's ridiculous! And I agree, Isa makes some very unattractive faces.
I agree about the fun of the escalating bluffing. Like Zoe said to Isa, it's better than you sitting in the corner crying. Their over-the-top sarcastic praise and predictions of a long happy life together with the Marias was much more entertaining than getting upset and going home for a sob.
I'm gonna have to disagree with ya'll on fer and isa :) Not that I thought that they were cute or funny yesterday with their double dog daring marriage game, but it was entertaining & made me laugh in a sort of "look at those crazy folks" kind of way. Of course, I don't watch it everyday & prob have watched less then half, so my tolerance for them and shenanigans is still pretty high
I'm gonna guess that if they do go with the marriage, isa is someone going to accidentally end up being married to fer.
who I do want to see more of are lucia & willy. & less of manuela & barbara, now they are annoyingggg & totally evil.
jlk
JLK, I like your scenario of the accidential marriage of Isa and Fer. Manuela and Jorrible would be fit to be tied, LOL.
Too bad Knuckles did not die instead of his dad!
RP
I didn't get the reason for the antique dealer telling Jorrible about the buyer for the statue and then exchanging the check for cash.
RP
RP - I didn't Jorrible's actions either with the other ancients dealer. I was just happy there wasn't another death b/c of that statue.
Yes Vivi those pants do win the ramerawear award.
The wedding does take place and heavy drinking for the gals (Isa and Susie). The women take over F5 place and Mr. C. takes him elsewhere b/c F5 didn't understand why he needed to leave.
At first Horny seems traumatized by the news but then gets with the program and tells the girls. The Maris continue to be the only ones with sense and react as we would expect. Things get so bad Marisol demands her abuela leave, wretched Horny attempts to slap her but Fer arrives to stop the madness.
The girls tell Fer to divorce EWM and won't join the couple for dinner; Doris doesn't either.
The episode ends with Fer kissing Isa and EWM wondering where he is.
The good stuff - Moncho gives Adelita a gift and kisses her hand. Unfortunately she's still stuck on Willy boy.
Jorrible goes to the other antiques dealer and buys his check? Any assistance here would be appreciated.
Oh and Knuckles fakes being upset about his father's death for Marinaive. He learns the stipulation for his getting the money is his marriage. Hopefully Fer will prevent Marisol from that.
RP
So Fer blames Isa for not stopping the marriage, huh? 'Cause she didn't "blink" first? What a dope.
Jorrible - he picked up the check and the business card. He's going to the buyer. Perhaps he'll try to "return" the check claiming some kind of error. Woe to the buyer if they don't give up the statue.
I loved Isa's fantasy of scribbling all over the certificate - too bad. But really Fer, no escape plan? You swear to Isa that you love her, but somehow I have a feeling you'll pull a Marisol - stay married because, well, you are already married. The density on this show just boggles the mind. And what the poor audience has to go through!
Isa wasn't showing signs of going out and getting married ASAP in revenge, but I wouldn't put it past the writers to pull that one too - arggghhhhhh!
It would be nice if Barb got wind of the stipulations in the will, but since the bride must be approved by the dad's attorney, I have a feeling Marisol will be the only acceptable candidate.
I'm glad the Marias and Doris are having none of it, and I also enjoyed Marisol letting Horny have it after she pranced in and started giving orders.
I was surprised the antiques dealer sold the statue for such a low price. He seemed to have a nice and successful shop, one would think he'd be used to dealing with valuable things and would think to investigate the worth of the statue first.
Is making an inheritance contingent on marriage actually legal in Mexico, or is this just a telenovelism? I can't see Marisol jumping on that. She feels bad for Knuckles but probably not THAT bad. Barf would be all over it.
I like the little details that show people's characters and attitudes. Like Cecilio always insisting that Zoe sit in the front seat of the car, and Manuela huffily remaining in the car until Fer comes and opens the door for her (after she whines at him to do it).
What a wedding celebration. I half expect Fer to ask Manuela to sleep on the couch so he can canoodle with Isa in his bedroom.
ughh so true, can't believe they actually went through with it. now I feel like it's going to take FOREVER before we can even start to unravel that mess. sooo dislike these parts in TN
ITA blue lass, she should totally be tied up till the danger passes.
question: are the marias the daughters?
jlk
Ugh, you're probably right; Marisol might believe whatever sob story Knuckles gives her. He would claim to be starving and homeless even though he's still getting his regular monthly allowance until he marries. His dad should have made the inheritance contingent on his holding a responsible full-time job for at least five years or something. Or on evolving from cavernícola to human.
I'm on my way out of town so I just wanted to make a couple of comments before I hit the road to hear the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra in Schenectady tonight.
It really has helped me deal with Fer & Isa's stubbornness since I started looking at them as Tracy & Hepburn. The multiple drunks were pretty funny -- though I don't recommend that as a way to solve problems. Totally drunk Isa is in a clinch with Fer in the hallway while Manuela spends her wedding night drinking a bottle and then wandering the house screaming for Fer.
When will Adelita get the message. Willy & Juandho come to the casa de hogar to ask Lucia to take the bishop's letter to Sor Ernestina since Marisol, consumed by guilt over knuckles won't take Juancho's calls. After trying to kick them out Lucia finally stops long enough to realize that they have a letter which can get Marisol's expulsion reversed so she gives willy a big hug -- which he returns. Adelita sees this, gets a quizzical look on her face & then reassures herself that Willy really likes HER. I hope she's not in for a lot of pain. btw Is anyone else bothered by TWO novices being wooed?
The two little Maris decide that they don't want to bo to this school if Marisol is expelled & so they set out to get expelled also. They draw a nasty cartoon about the nuns on the wall. They get caught & brought before Sor Ernestina. When she realizes that they are trying to get expelled she refuses to oblige & instead gives them a long hw assignment Nd makes them scrup the wall. They are pretty bummed when they find out that Marisol is reinstated anyway -- but they are still punished.
Yesterday someone asked about "Marilechuga" Marilechuga gave herself that nickname early on when she was feeling left out. At the time Marisol was getting a lot of attention because of her romantic problems and because she had run away. Th little one was getting a lot of attention because of her asthma. The middle daughter felt like she was the lettuce on the plate -- just hanging around in the background while all the other ingredients get the attention. She and Fer had a very sweet lunch together where she told him how she felt and he gave her the attention she deserved. She really is the sweetest one.
I hope I didn't step on any toes by jumping in with a partial recap.
Güera
I too wonder when Adelita is going to get it. At first I wanted to believe she wasn't infatuated w/Willy. Unfortunately it has become very obvious she is.
The wooing of two novices is unusual and I'm wondering why the writers have gone in this direction. I think we can see how Lucia would have challenges as a nun but the story w/Adelita, though very different, seems to hint at the convent being a bad place (esp. Sors Ernestina and Pilar)
- F5 and Ceci write Isabel a nice letter of recommendation.
- F5 tells Zoe she can't take the car to go to work coz he needs it, and Ceci gives her his keys instead.
- Isa tells Fer she was never "with" Jorge.
- Jorge smarms that he will wait until Isa is totally ready to "give herself" to him.
- Knuckles sets his sights on Marisodumb as a future bride because he thinks he can control her.
I loved the painting the girls did on the wall. I hoped someone would take a picture of it. "Sor Ernestina y el chupacabra son iguales" and a picture a demonic chupacabra nun. Awesome.
That convent is a seriously dysfunctional place. Two novitiates who aren't at all suited for convent life, and madres who are control freaks with no compassion or common sense. The background nuns seem okay. I wonder what they do aside from running the school.
So Fer realizes the marriage was a huge mistake...why didn't he go straight to his lawyer buddies first thing in the morning for help filing for a divorce or annulment?
The conversation between Fer and Susi in the car was funny, when he was trying to get info about Isa out of her. "Do I think I have to answer your questions because you're my boss? We aren't in the office right now." "No, we're talking as friends." "Then as your friend, let me tell you that you are an idiot. Friends tell the truth to each other." That's paraphrased but it was something like that.
I also liked the Marias' scheming session when they were strategizing of how to treat Tía Stepmonster. Put itching powder in her sheets, etc.
NO SLUMBER PARTY AT JULIA'S HOUSE.
And a few of the good things that happened on Thursday - the note from Senor O. (Willy's friend who I think is a bishop) works on wretched Sor E and Marisol will be back in school. How does Willy know this guy? It's funny as a convenient plot device & just so random - the former gigolo & the bishop.
B/c Sor E. wants to be fair, Barf needs to come back to school. Barf never told Lala about her suspension so guess who is going to get busted sometime soon. Yeah! Let's just hope Lala (to quote The Who) won't get fooled again.
Everyone and their pet rock gave Fernando a hard time for marrying Manwitch. He went to Cecilio and Flippy and asked them to help him with a divorce. They said they'd try but Witchy Wifey was sure to object, so it will be a painful process.
Lucía went to tell Fer that Marisol is allowed back at school. He invited her over for lunch, and they were having a nice little chat wherein she talked up Willy G and Juancho and he was all snobby and disdainful and called them idiots and Luc was all, look at the donkey talking about ears. Then Manwitch disrupted them by arriving with her suitcases and Lucía fled downstairs and told Isa Fer was going to get a divorce.
After Fer told Manwitch he wants to end their farce of a marriage posthaste, she stormed down and shrieked like a banshee at Isa. Fer yelled at her and Isa told him to leave her out of it; even if he gets divorced she wants nothing to do with his stupid self.
Back upstairs, Manwitch had another psycho convo with Sofía in the bathroom and punched the mirror, breaking it and cutting up her hand. This got her lots of TLC from Fer, which she parlayed into a long smooch and an agreement to give the marriage the old reform-school try. Ugh.
Isa talked with Marisol and seemed to convince her she shouldn't give up on Juancho. Marisol went over to Knuckles's place with some resolve, but he faked a big suicidal meltdown (whilst Barf hid in the bedroom) and told Marisol that being with her is the only reason he isn't killing himself, so of course she doesn't dare dump him.
Lala found out some more again that Barf is a lying liar who lies.
Jaibo is still extorting money out of Doris. Poncho gave her the statue proceeds but warned her not to let Jaibo know she has so much. They hugged and she seemed pretty affectionate.
Jorrible met with the statue buyer and gave him a long sob story about the sentimental value of his family heirloom. He offered 70,000 pesos for it. The guy is going to think about it.
Mayela is quite seriously ill, but she's just lying down because her doctor sucks.
Lucía told Adelita that she and Willy were once novios and he's always scheming to get her back. Adelita is very sad.
Abismo wraps up next Monday, so I'm hoping to have a little more time to devote to our kooky gang who are all dating/obsessed with/married to the wrong people.
So I guess Marisol won't dump Knuckles until she catches him w/Barf. Or perhaps Lala or Willy will bring Barf down b/c of Juancho.
Julia, your vocab list really helped out with last week's episodes. Isa yelled something to Fer that I had to look up and I didn't notice on your list. When she was wasted and he called her she yelled "Púdrete!" at him. I got the gist of it at the time but wanted to check for sure. At Word Reference Forum they suggested it means "Go to hell", "Rot in hell", or "Get lost". I'm sure this will come in handy for me some time, hee.
I think my favorite scenes were the ones of the little Maris offending Sor Ernestina (hilarious!) and the three Maris ganging up against Manuela and invoking la ley de hielo against her and talking about the pica pica powder. It's nice to see all the girls in agreement about something.
Oh, and everything with Suzy...love her!!
I didn't even notice Manuela's pants but I went back and checked and Oh My they were UghLy!
Did I hear right? Lala has hypertension? That could be pretty serious considering all the stress her family puts her through.
My favorite scene from last week was when Fer told his buddies about his noviazgo with Manuela -- after she left the room, they just said WHY??? And he said, well, she's always there, and she's been so supportive, and whatever, and F5 said, "Why don't you just get a pet?"
Fer, on the other hand. Who really marries someone out of spite? If he didn't want to "cave" in his stupid battle of wills against Isa, he could have at least faked a seizure or something at the courthouse to thwart the wedding. He just doesn't think.
And how much of a business professional can he be if he doesn't know how to make his phone ring or vibrate, then answer it and pretend there's some emergency he has to rush off to?
