Por ella soy Eva #59 10/8/12: Skyping the Afterlife

Helena and Pluto are out to eat, chatting about Majagua and surprise, he wants to talk about himself, not business. He's in love with her completely, he says. Didn't Juan do the same. Just give me a chance to conquer you. OH FOR HECKS SAKE. why is it always conquista? is that romantic at all? Anyway, she tells him he's a marvelous man but this moment is really not right and she will "take some time to think about her answer." Gentlemen, you should know by know that when a lady says this, the answer will never be yes. Ooh, and when he offers to walk her home (when she mentions the shrimp at home and cuts the meeting short), she turns him down. Awesome! I hope he's really embarrassed or something, not like he'd ever show it. Then she thinks back to Juan a bit and gives Pluto a limp handshake.

Oh dear lord, something must be grievously fubared with the floor-plan of GI's office, because people are NONSTOP hitting each other at hallway intersections. This time it's Santi and Lucia. They should install one of those convex mirrors at the corner so you can see who's coming. Anyway, if this happens so often (human collisions), you'd think people would be a bit more used to it, but Lucia spends about a minute stammering out awkward apologies. Anyway, he's really out-of-it over his accidental marriage.

surprise! Santi is not working, yelling at Angie over the phone. Fernie grills him for details on his Vegas trip (how many girls? a blondie? huh? you champion!)

Haha, Pluto drifting his convertible through the parking deck in a Helena-haze. Rebe spies her cachito and tries to get his attention, but he runs his car into her. She scratches his his car and yells, but I'm certain she'll swallow his lines as usual. How pathetic! O man, he's still telling her the whale is too fresh in the ground for lovin' on Rebe.

Helena brings the issue to her mom, who wisely counsels her to forget Juan.

At the caveman's house: he disapproves of his daughter having a boyfriend. He really reveals that his outrageously sensitive pride (can't he get some kind of roid-cream to reduce tenderness?) is threatened by the boy - he feels that everyone is talking about the "rockstar" boyfriend so much, it's almost like HE was the "protagonist of the house." The girl realizes that you can't reason with ape-man and changes the subject. Why hasn't he signed her permission form for the class trip to Camomila? He says he was going to sign it, but then he thought that maybe "rockstar" Daniel might go too, and there might be a beautiful full moon, and he didn't like the idea much anymore. Her: You prehistoric macho man, you can't keep me locked in here with your caveman ideals. Marcela intervenes and says she'll talk it over with Mr. Cro-Magnon, and the girls leave to do the dishes. Fernie loses his grip.

Mousse boy bumps into Rebe in the hall, invites her to the meeting tomorrow, and asks her to try not to make another scene like she did in that other meeting, and he suspects he had something to do with the consultoras (what happened there?). She gets mad: "look here, Salary Man (really? asalariado?), who do you think you are? You're a dead mosquito!" To accentuate the point, she makes mosquito wings and buzzes away. Whee!

Mimi and Juan yuk it up... Mimi is jealous of all the attention Eva is getting from Adriano and really seems to have a thing for the round little grump. Juan wants to see his mom to convince her to get tested. He calls her as Eva, but she refuses to get the tests unless Juan herself tells her to (have they been telling her Juan is on a long trip or something?).

Adriano is longing for Eva. Hah!

Chauvinist caveman is still dwelling on his daughter's boyfriend. He muses that the slugger must be really on the ball (buzo) to "conquer his daughter like she should be conquered." ugh.

Nice to see Santi procrastinating something other than work - he doesn't want to tell the guys she got married.

Mimi goes to Juan's Mom to set up a surprise, because "Eva couldn't make it."

Alone in her office, Helena indulges in a bit of dreaming about smooching Juan on the beach. Pluto busts in, suit just as shiny as ever. He persists with the mushiness, and she admits that she can't forget Juan. Interesting. Look at Pluto! Angry prune much?

Santi comes home to find his new bride has moved in and tackified his too-expensive pad with the "feminine touch" it was lacking. He wants her to keep the wedding a secret. I do enjoy watching him squirm. He's going to start having nervous breakdowns.

Mimi and Juan's mom are challenged by the security guy in the GI HQ, but Mimi bullies their way in. She won't get to see her son, but they've got a nice webchat set up. Mimi slips out and tells Juan that it's all ready. Wow, their meeting is so sweet! Funny thing, his mom sees a flat purple background behind him, but he's actually sitting in the messy makeup room. Television magic?

Lalo tells his mom she needs to get a boyfriend so she can be happy.

Meanwhile, Pluto bemoans his fate (competing with a corpse) with his sketchy mustache buddy (I always forget his name). Despite the futility of the situation, Pluto draws the absolute wrong conclusion and pledges to focus all of his energy on Helena. Ew!

The plan worked! Mom will go get tested, and asks Eva to accompany her.

Angelica boasts of her wedding to Rebe, her "best friend." Rebe talks down the "little chapel wedding." She is planning on a HUGE wedding. In lieu of her customary leopard print shirt, she has a furry bracelet with a weird chain hanging off it.

One scene later, the sketchy mustache flunky pays Rebe a visit - he brings a necklace of apology on Pluto's behalf! She is utterly disgusted by his comportment ("Quitate tus ojos libidinos de mi cuerpazo!") and claims utter distaste for these "cheapo gems," kicking him out and keeping the bling, which, as she admits once the dude is gone, are not bad at all. He tells her to be patient with Pluto, and gets more scorn in return: "what, me take advice from some naco marca chifles?

Eva gets a raft of flowers from Adriano.

Marcela suspects that Kevin has fallen in love. As they rush to get out the door to school, her daughter drops her purse and a bunch of pencils fall out. They scramble to pick them up, but Marcela spots and grabs a condom! Uh-oh! Last line of the show? Macho caveman blunders in and demands to know "WHOSE CONDOM IS THIS?"

Those dirty rotten shnooks! Making Friday's preview look like Juan would let Helena know he was alive. I should've known it was too good to be true!

How much more will Rebecca put up with, before she sells Pluto down the river?

It looks like Santiago has soured pretty quickly on Angie. As soon as he saw that marriage license she lost all her appeal - maybe because she's no longer forbidden fruit?

Yeah, Paula, what a dirty trick of editing for the previews. It kind of spoiled what was a very sweet encounter between JC & his mom.

More & more I think that whoever predicted that in the end Santi will end up with Helena's buddy( what's her name again) was spot on. Their encounter in the hallway had more than a few sparks.

And Renato is onto Rebecca's games. Is that a good thing for him or an anvil? Rebecca can be a nasty enemy.

Everyone STOP pushing Helena to forget JC and find love anew. First Silvia now Lalito. Enough already!

Ezra thanks so much for the great recap. Loved JC's webchat with his Mama. I am glad she is going to be tested.

Liked Santi bumping into Lucia. They do look like they are made for each other. Oh, the horror of the redecoration of Santi's apartment. It looked like a bordello, lol.

So Adri hasn't given up on Eva. Those flowers were lovely and loved how they all wanted to know who they were from.

Fern is really macho. It's ok for Kevin to have a girlfriend at 14 but Jennifer, who I think is 16, can't? Que Que What??? Ruh Roh with the condoms too. I wonder how Mr. Macho will handle that.

Renato, The Mousse Boy, has figured out I think that Rebeca is the one that called the Contractors for Construction for the Playa Project. I think he was telling Rebeca he knows about that, cause she went into Helena's office and stole that info, and she was asking him who would beleive him, I think. So at least maybe Renato is not really against Helena. We will have to see.

Loved how Rebeca hit Pluti's car with her purse. I hope she left a dent in it. And Ezra you are so right when you say, when a woman tells a guy she'll think about it, as in this convo, she does really mean no.

Oh, and Pluti's henchman is called Onesimo. Rebeca was mad at him cause she can't stand him, and he kept staring at her boobage.

Well thanks the Lord that SOMEONE in telenovelaland knows how to use birth control! This kid needs to go to every other novela and do some psa's.

I am glad to see Renato getting mad at Rebecca for all her shenanigans. I liked the idea that he's Eva/JC's brother. Plus if he has friends then maybe they can get him to fix his hair.

Santi's apartment only has the feminine touch if the feminina is 12 years old. Cats and feather boas?

Thanks so much! I've just started watching this to help with my meager Spanish skills, and I love it. One of these days I'll understand the rapid-fire Spanish, but until then these recaps are a life-saver. One question: Why are there identically dressed reception girls who look like backup singers? Is this for tv or is it in Mexican offices?

Thanks, Ezra!

Santi cracks me up. I am enjoying his meltdown, especially the way he stomped on the feather boa like it was a vicious snake or something. I do think he will end up with Lucia; they're definitely hinting at chemistry between them.

I still have no use for Fernando the Caveman. Ugh. He's such an insecure, selfish twit. Yeah, his peabrain thinks his daughter shouldn't go near any boys, but can't compute that the chicas he wants his son recklessly hooking up with are also people's daughters, who they care about. Among the many facets of his ridiculous double standards.

I was hoping Renato the Mousseman was going to give Helena a heads up about Rebeca being in her office after it happened or certainly after the meeting where Helena found herself in that difficult situation with the proyecto. Maybe loyalty is not one of his strong suits? I am tired on the Caveman almost as tired as I was with Helena's dad.
As far as Oneisimo--I cannot see him without thinking of him as Lety's friend Tomas from "La fea mas bella". Well, let us hope Helena does not give in; but alas, I think that will be part of the story. This telenovela has around 150 episodes so it will be a long hard road to Helena's deserved happiness with JC. Thanks for the recaps!

Thank you, Ezra. That was funny in several places.

Dirty rotten shnooks. haha Yeah, it seems their job is to keep us guessing wrongly. I've sworn off guessing (we'll see if that lasts). My favorite parts were Pluto gently rubbing his car where he ran into Rebeca with it, Rebeca doing a mosquito imitation about Onesimo, Eva lecturing Adriano about how men are from Mars and women are from Venus, and as Julie points out, Santiago jumping away from and stomping the feather boa as if it were a snake.

When he told her he loves her Pluto gave Helena puppy dog eyes, and he seemed genuine, but they don't compare to Jorge Salinas' puppy dog eyes for Ana Brenda Conteras in La Que No Podia Amar.

Ezra - thanks for the laughs. My favorite: "Mimi...really seems to have a thing for the round little grump."

I'd like Santi and Lucia together too. Before, I thought Oneisimo would fall for Lucia and change his mal ways. But after he put a gun to Lalito's dad's head, no way. But Lucia’s got to get back to the way she was when the TN began and stop acting desperate.

Thanks Ezra! Yes, they do have a problem with their hall intersections!

Has the amnesia thing that JC's mother (probably) has been cured in other TNs? That would be a nice resolution.

As far as the women in GI dressing in the same blue dress, I don't know what it is like in real-life Mexico but I've never seen it in offices on other TNs. I think it is just another way for this TN to illustrate how women can be degraded in Mexican culture. I would guess that the uniforms are gone by the end as lessons are learned.

I don't see those uniforms as degrading, necessarily. It's apparent from the variety that they can choose their own style with those two colors, so it isn't like they're forced to be more exposed than they want to be. As to the idea of uniforms at all, I think it's convenient. That way they don't have to buy their own work clothes, which can be a plus for entry-level workers. Now, the fact that it's only women in uniforms, and no men, is another story. If they want to promote a consistent image and make the clerical workers easily identifiable, why should that be divided by gender lines? Why isn't MousseMan in a blue shirt and pants?

Fun recap Ezra! I also enjoyed Pluti running over Rebe and being more concerned about the car. Ha!

I've seen the uniform thing in other tns. In fact, right now in Refugio the clerical staff all wear uniforms. ITA with Julia that in and of itself, it's not insulting and probably saves them money, but it's not fair that the male clerical staff like Renato don't have to wear a uniform too.

"O man, he's still telling her the whale is too fresh in the ground for lovin' on Rebe."

Yikes! What a sentence. Love your humor Ezra. No holds barred. Also got a kick out of you describing Plu's disappointment as looking like an "angry prune". Nothin' worse than an Angry Prune in a Shiny Suit.

"Round little grump"--another favorite. Somehow I find Adriano quite charming. Maybe it's the wayward eye. I'm as hooked on him as Mimi. You other gals can fight over Juan Carlos.

Thanks for the recap Ezra. You always deliver the goods.

Ezra, I've had the same reaction to the word conquistar- they've used it several times in this show. It's funny how different TNs repeatedly use different words from one another. Due to different writers I suppose. Anyway, I looked it up this time and it can also mean 'to win over,' which isn't as 'hit you over the head and carry you off' as 'to conquer.'

Welcome, Janet! I showed up here a year ago for the same reasons. I still need to read the Spanish CC's to have any hope of knowing what's going on. This site does help. And it's fun to talk about the show. My friends don't understand why I've strayed from English television.

Thanks, Ezra. I wish I could have commented on this one a little earlier.

I've been translating "conquistar" as "to win over" as well. I don't know if it's the absolute perfect translation but it is probably closer than how we mean "conquer" in English.

I think Renato is just looking for an opportunity. He's got some dirt on Rebeca and he is probably asking himself if that info is more useful if he blackmails her with it, tells Helena, or sits on it for a while longer. (Tonight's episode is already half finished and I haven't even started it yet - for all I know maybe Rebeca has already killed him and stuffed his body in the trunk of Pluto's car.

Regarding uniforms, the office workers in MEPS had them too. These are a little nicer though because of the different shades of blue. I have to admit that there are times when I wish I could put on a uniform in the morning instead of trying to put together an outfit.
