Por ella soy Eva #68 10/19/12: In which someone finally spells it out for Fernando and Santi. With apples.

It's time for everyone to hand in their reports, but Marcela's has mysteriously disappeared from her computer. I keep thinking that she will say "no problem, I saved a password-protected backup on the network [or on a flash drive or whatever] and/or I printed a bunch of copies and hid them in the ladies' room," because it would be so funny if her saboteur's plan could fall apart that fast. But Marcela does not have a backup or a printed copy. I am disappointed in her.

My disappointment turns out to be short-lived. Meanwhile, Renato offers to help Cindy collect the rest of the reports.

But let's talk about some other stuff first.

Pluto and Adriano exchange confidences about their romances. (Helena is almost as good as Antonia, Pluto says.) Pluto pretends to be happy for Adriano. Adriano is sincerely happy for Pluto and gives his blessing for the relationship.

JC has looked over the records Mimi got from Accounting and can't find any evidence to incriminate Pluto or exonerate himself. If Pluto committed the fraud, he hid it very well.

Helena tells Lucia she's tired of hearing about Renato. Lucia insists this time that she's sure he wants a relationship.

Pluto is angry when Felix, the IT guy, says that he didn't find anything on Eva's computer. Felix remembers that Eva asked him to look at "something" on her computer once, but then changed her mind. Pluto threatens to fire him and suggests getting the data from her cell phone.

Next, Felix (who is having an amazingly busy day) tries to help Marcela. Fern tries to blame "computer maintenance" for the mysteriously deleted report. He says things always disappear during "computer maintenance"! (Fernando once experienced some data loss after Felix "worked" on his machine, on Pluto's orders. I think that was Fernando, anyway.) Felix says no; maintenance doesn't cause this kind of problem. People need to password-protect their computers. That's not his job! (Er, actually, IT can configure the computers to require password protection that kicks in after the computer's been idle for a few minutes.)

Renato nags Marcela for her report while she works feverishly to reconstruct her lost work. He is annoyed when Fern hands him Santi's report - obviously, with Santi absent this morning as usual, Renato was hoping his report wouldn't be turned in on time. Out in the hallway, he tears up Santi's work and throws it away, and the trash is emptied soon afterwards. (I keep imagining that the trashcan will ask "Are you sure?" like Marcela's computer did.) Renato gives the rest of the reports to Cindy.

Cindy takes the reports to Adriano and tries to flirt with him, but he boots her out of there in a hurry when Eva shows up. Eva asks if they can review the financials again to rehire the women, but Adri says Pluto is in charge of that. Adriano asks Eva to help him read all the reports. She says no, tells him not to call her "mi amor" in the office, and not to watch as she leaves the room.

Helena tells Lucia that she and Pluto are an item. Lucia signals her approval by screeching like a lunatic. Eva enters, and Lucia pretends that she was just laughing at a really good joke. She leaves, and Eva asks Helena what she's so happy about. Helena tries to change the subject to Eva's love life, to little avail. Eva asks if Helena still thinks about JC. Helena says JC is dead and she needs to move on. Eva goes back to her office, hikes up her dress, and whines about Helena to Mimi. Mimi tells her to hurry up and get that proof.

Mimi is summoned to Adriano's office. She leaves her Blackberry on Eva's desk. Felix snatches it, thinking it's Eva's.

Marcela has rewritten her report, but Adriano doesn't want it because it's late. He's surprised at her; she's always so responsible. She explains that the original got deleted, and this is just a quick do-over. He smirks at her excuses and flippantly beings flipping pages, prepared to diss her for taking such a long time. She nervously apologizes for the report's length and offers to edit it down. But after seeing those pages packed with the details of all the work Marcela has done for the company so far, Adriano changes his tune. It's the most thorough report he has ever seen! (To be fair, most of the previous reports he's seen were written by Santi and Fernando and probably have vulgar drawings in the margins.) He promotes her to Coordinator of Operations for GI.

Adri says Fernando's job will be re-evaluated after the Playa Majagua project is done. Until then, he'll be reporting to Marcela. (Eva giggles behind her hand.) Renato will be the Coordinator of Commerce and Administration (?) for the PM project.

Santi: But that's my position! If he's doing that, what am I going to do?
Adri: We're going to talk about that privately in my office. I'm going to explain it with apples.

Eva sneaks out to visit Mom. Mimi finds her phone on Eva's desk, but all of her data seems to be missing. Meanwhile, Felix tells Pluto he copied all the data on Eva's phone to a USB drive and gives it to Pluto. (Does Felix know how to copy data without deleting it?)

Rebeca wants to know why Pluto's in such a good mood. He denies that he's doing anything with Helena. Becky says if so, then why doesn't he announce their love to the world? He replies that it's too soon after Toni's death (remember, Adri has already given them his blessing) and he still has the rest of the month and she should leave him alone till then. "Tick-tock, tick-tock," she taunts him (though with her accent, it sounds like she's offering him a Tic-Tac).

Pluto calls Helena with an important message: he loves her. Gag.

Adriano is incredulously reading aloud a report that sounds like a steamy love letter when Mimi replies to his summons. Indicating Mimi's report, he asks "what kind of joke is this?" She says it's her detailed report of what she feels for him. He wheezes. He's flattered that "a woman like you" loves him, but he's in love with Eva. They agree there's no need to tell Eva about this.

Eugenia isn't happy to see Eva. "I don't want to see you again, ever." She's tired of people making a fool of her. The doctor sends Eugenia back to her room (they're outdoors) and scolds Eva for whatever it was that set Eugenia off. Alas, Eva has no idea.

Fernando grumbles. Marcela tries to comfort him and says maybe Adri will change his mind. Ferni is humliated that she's proven to be better than him at everything. She says they'll work together to find a solution. That makes him feel worse, that she always has the answer. He confesses to deleting her report and asks her forgiveness. (She should make him beg harder.) She asks if it's so hard for him to accept that she's as capable as he is. He was afraid that if they compared her report to his, they'd realize that he doesn't do much. Marsela asks if he felt macho enough when he deleted her report. Maybe he should ask himself if he really likes working there, she says. And now she's going to do some of the work they pay her for.

Renato walks in and notes the tension. (Fern has his back turned to him and agrily swipes a tear from his cheek.) Adriano is ready to see him and Santi now.

Angelica and Rebeca are friends again after their argument the other night. Rebeca says it's Angelica's turn to help her for a change. They agree to meet for drinks.

Santi and Fern meet with Adriano. Santi says "if you read my report..." and Adri says he never got it. But it doesn't matter; Renato already finished Santi's work.

Lucia goes into Renato's office and starts chattering at him. She wants to take him out to eat to celebrate his promotion. He's not exactly mean, but he's too "busy" (straightening some items on the bookcase) to hang out with her.

Adri asks Santi about his Vegas wedding. He thinks Santi should view it as a motivator to work harder - not an excuse for slacking off. Then Adri taunts Fern for being not as good as his wife. Eva scolds Adri and defends her boyz. Adri says there's no JC to defend them anymore, so they'd better put their noses to the grindstone, or they can just forget about working at GI.

Lucia is still chattering. She asks Renato about the kiss he gave her after Santi's party. He says he doesn't remember. She backpedals awkwardly. He coldly hands her some papers to take to Helena.

Eva lectures Santi about taking care of his job and marriage and kind of smacks him in the head. Santi calls his mother.

Modesto has heard about Eva's visit to Eugenia. Eugenia denies that Eva was the reason she got upset. No, it's because of JC. He's been deceiving her all along. Modesto says she has to accept that JC's dead; that's why she's here. Eugenia rolls her eyes.

Rebeca wants Angelica to help her find out what Pluto's up to and if he's having a thing with Helena. They follow him to a swanky mall. He's buying jewelry. Lucy and Ethel follow him to a restaurant and sit at a table nearby, sort of behind him.

Santi phones Angelica. She leaves the table to take the call. (Since when? Isn't she exactly the type of person who loudly takes a phone call at her table in a restaurant?) A moment later, Helena shows up and kisses Pluti on his nasty lying lips.

Rebeca gapes. "¡No puede ser!" Oh yes, it totally puede ser.

Next time:
Mischief transpires.

OK, I ran out of steam about halfway through, so I'm going to rewatch the rest of it tomorrow to check on a few things that might be wrong or missing in the second half of the recap (somewhere in the middle of the confrontation between Marcela and Fernando, I think).

Yet again, I am amazed at how good every single episode of this show is. I can't even begin to express how satisfying this episode was. I'm too tired. :-)

Yes, este corazon se eleva y ya no quiere aterrizar.

Thank you, Julie. I laughed at your suggestion that Ferni and Santiago's reports have probably contained vulgar drawings in the margins, and that it sounded like Rebeca was offering Pluto a Tic-tac.

I was disappointed to see that during a seemingly heart-felt conversation Pluto made faces at Adriano when he turned his back on him. I thought the Putz had genuine affection for the old guy. I'm trying hard not to dislike anyone on this show, other than Bastardo.

Julie thank you so much for this wonderful recap. I really don't think you missed a thing. So happy Marcela is now in charge, yay! It's about time another woman got a leg up at G.I. so to speak. I am glad too that Ferni and Santi are finally in the hot seat for not doing their jobs and I too like the naughty drawings on the margins of their reports, lol. I think actually they did do some drawings in the beginning of this TN in their reports.

I hope Eva figures out that Eugenia knows he is really JC. Why in the world doesn't she just ask Eva? Eva had no idea that Eugenia so those pictures of his transformation I don't think. Eugenia really doesn't like people fooling her.

I think Mimi was mad about her phone cause her contact list is missing. I can't figure out how Felix is deleting everything either.

Loved what you said about Pluti's nasty lying lips, perfect description of them, lol. I can't wait until he starts getting caught. The bad guys are winning here alot and I want the good guys to win one, just once. I know Eva has done alot, but I want Pluti to get caught in just one bad thing, in order to explain himself.

I really thought that Adri was going to cave to Mimi, but no such luck. Adri really has it bad for Eva but I think that eventually Mimi will have a chance, depending on what happens with Eva down the road.

I meant saw those pics not so., lol.

I think Eugenia would ask Eva if she had a clear memory of what she saw. She seems a bit confused about that - talking about JC and Eva as if they are two different people. Even when she saw the posters, she seemed to jump to a particular conclusion about what JC had been doing. So, whether it makes any sense or not, she already thinks she knows what's going on.

As far as the good guys getting a win - well, Marcela got a gigantic promotion. That's gotta count for something. And although I wouldn't consider Rebeca a good guy, it would feel like a win to me if she put the hurt on Pluto next week.

How about if the bad guys get a loss? It looks like Pluto has some useless info from Mimi's phone, and I don't think the disk Onesimo got from Rebeca is going to save him either.

Hey Julie, sure can't tell that you ran out of steam. I love "nasty lying lips", "no puede ser! Oh yes, it totally puede ser" and also "mischief ensues". And that was all in the end of the recap. Way to finish with a flourish, amiga.

This was a great episode, once I new Marcela was saved...whew! Fernando is pathetic, but perhaps..for that reason, I feel a little sorry for him. He and Santiago though need to find other work. They're useless at the agency. And evidently always were.

Great episode, great recap. Thanks.

Thanks for a great recap! I couldn't tell you had run out of steam. My favorite part of the episode was Eva holding the "reins" on Santi and Fernando elechRe and guiding the "caballitos" out after their lecture from Adri. It was just one of those classic comic moments.

I am loving this show and I am loving this web site. When I show up for work Friday mornings all bleary-eyed because I stayed up until 1 in the morning recapping, I irritably (tongue-in-cheek) tell my friends, "you know, I do HAVE a second job."

Thanks, Julie. No loss of steam for me--"It's totally puede ser.!"

Oh, the things Eva can think of to do with neckties. She's still trying to guide her old buddies.

I always laugh when she hitches up her skirt for a moment of comfort.

La Paloma

Julie - fine recap. My favorite: "To be fair, most of the previous reports he's seen were written by Santi and Fernando and probably have vulgar drawings in the margins."

At least Fern fessed up and is ashamed of himself. Now will he grow up and really start to work.

I can't be angry with Renato any more about Lucia. He is clearly not into her one twit but she keeps chasing him. It's sad.

On the other hand, Mimi chasing Adriano is funny. One, Mimi has a lot of confidence in promoting her assets. Two, Adriano is attracted to her in is lovable goofy way but is trying to be faithful to Eva.

You know what I got stuck on for a while? "Explain it with apples." I'd never heard that expression before. I thought it must be some idiomatic Mexican thing. Then I googled it in English and had to laugh. I guess teaching with apples is a more universal thing than I had imagined.

You were on a roll, Julie. We sure couldn't tell that you felt you were out of steam.

I too loved Eva leading the boys out of the office by their ties & clucking to them like horsies. And I also loved Adri cleaning his glasses on Fer's tie. What a way to put him in his place.

I was touched by Fer's confession. He is such an ass but he is a lovable ass and he & Marsela have a deep tie and even though he acts like a jerk there is a lot of respect between them.

Mimi's "informe" full of protestations of love was a hoot. Her description of what she wanted to accomplish in the firm sure made Adriano squirm. Of course he couldn't fall into her trap right away -- but he is not going to forget. Her charms are going to haunt his dreams.

I forgot to say yesterday that I loved the scene where Onesimo was lasciviously searching Rebecca's bedroom -- and the fact that her bedroom was full of pictures of herself. She is a hoot. I think that she & Onesimo are going to end up together.

Güera

Julie,

OMG, you are right, they are Lucy and Ethel!

Thanks,

Rosemary Primera

Rebeca also has a photo of herself in her office.

There was a large painting of Antonia in her and Pluti's bedroom.

And of course, there are lots of big posters of Juan, Eva, and Juaneva all over Juan/Eva's room!

I don't think most people (in Mexico or anywhere) keep a lot of photos of themselves around unless there are other people in them too. It's odd to see so many of them in this TN.

However, at least the Juan/Eva posters became a plot point, and Antonia's painting loomed over evil Pluti. Rebeca's pictures all over the place are funny, but they are also sad because it hints that she believes her appearance is really the only thing she has going for her.

I also couldn't tell you ran out of steam and loved both the recap and the episode.

Yay Marcela! She got the promotion she deserved. I was glad that Fer fessed up, and was ashamed of himself. I really want to see him start to grow up and be worthy of Marcela.

Adri may still be sexist and backwards in many ways, but he's the only one who has promoted women when their accomplishments have been shown to him, soley based on their accomplishments. He says one thing about women and their capabilities, but acts another way.

The "informe" that Mimi gave to Adri were the lyrics to "Amarte a la Antigua". I'm surprised none you other Dinero watchers noticed the song we so loved by Rafa.

Amarte a ka Antigua:

cantarte canciones
pintarte caricias..

amarte a la antigua
robarte sonrisas
tomarte la mano
abrirte la puerta
escribirte poesias
amar como antes..

eres justo como te soñe
tu no sabes cuanto te espere
y deseo para siempre..

amarte a la antigua
entregarte mi vida
llenarte de rosas
cantarte canciones
pintarte caricias..

amarte a la antigua
robarme sonrisas
tomarte la mano
abrirte la puerta
escribirte poesias..

amar como antes
amarte a la antigua

Just a quick note to thank you for your recap! Excellent and funny with or without steam. I missed the episode so was glad to read that Marcela came out just fine.

Mil in NC

I guess in novela-land, no one makes backups on thumb drives and no one password-locks their computer screens. Dios Mio! This is going to get interesting!

We know that Felix downloaded a lot of stuff from the phone he thought was Eva's. But the phone that Mimi found & which didn't have her contacts in it -- was that the one Felix tampered with or was it Eva's real phone?

Güera

Good question, Güera. I'm not sure if we do know whose phone that was. I didn't think Eva had a Blackberry, but I haven't paid much attention. On the other hand, though, I would think Mimi would know whether she has her own phone or not - or at least I would expect her to quickly suspect that it was Eva's.

By the same token, if (again, I'm not sure) Eva's phone is a Blackberry too, then I guess I can't SWEAR that Felix downloaded the wrong phone.

I think that we do know that part. The phone Felix picked up was right where Mimi left hers. But the phone that Mimi found when she got back was under some papers on the desk.

That makes sense - Felix would have put it back underneath something so it wouldn't seem so strange if it was "missing" earlier.

I don't think there's much point, one way or the other, in her finding Eva's phone. (Unless there's another plot twist on the way, which is certainly possible!) But if it really is Mimi's phone, then she and Eva are going to try to figure out who messed with it - and it might not take them long to figure it out!

When I said I was running out of steam, I was on my second pass through the episode and had already written most of the recap. I do a second pass through the episode because I know I sometimes miss good stuff the first time through.

So, I just finished with the second pass and added some tweaks and corrections to the recap. The only ones of consequence are:

Rebeca asks Pluto why he doesn't announce their love to the world. He replies that it's too soon after Toni's death (remember, Adri has already given them his blessing).

When Mimi comes to Adriano's office, he is reading her steamy report aloud. (Not writing a love letter to Eva. I don't know why I thought that before.)

Ferni told Marcela he was afraid that if they compared her report to his, they'd realize that he doesn't do much.

After Eva defends Santi and Fernando (and scolds Adriano for his sexist remark about Marcela doing a better job than her husband), Adri says there's no JC to defend them anymore. (Haha, irony!)

At the hospital, Modesto says tells Eugenia she has to accept that JC's dead; that's why she's there. Eugenia rolls her eyes.

"Mischief transpires" is my default "next time" when I'm not able to get anything concrete out of the avances. The only thing that really caught my attention was Rebeca holding something small and rectangular and shiny. It occurs to me that it could be a USB drive...

Also, not relevant to the recap, but it caught my eye: avances for the upcoming "Amores Verdaderos" starring Eduardo Yañez. Intriguing! (Like I have time for another telenovela??)

Thank you for very detailed recap.
It didn't seem like you ran out of steam. It was fine.
Thanks Vivi for the Amarte lyrics.
I love this novela, but I too am waiting with baited breath for Yanez's novela.

Add me to the list of waiting with bated breath for the Yanez novela too. He is the reason I started watching novelas :).

Who's Yanez?

I'm loca for Yanez too.

Ithabill - Yanez has starred in a lot of successful novelas for 20 years or so, including Destilando Amor, La Verda Oculta, and FELS. He's bilingual and has done some U.S. film and TV work. He's usually a lovable, sexy good guy in Spanish novelas but a bad guy in the U.S.

Out of steam, Julie? Never. You are just as sparkly as ever. Miss you all.

Schoolmarm Jeanne, lurking
