Por ella soy Eva #60 10/9/12: Modesto Does Indeed Have a Second Family

  • Remember a condom fell out of Jennifer's purse, causing the Cro-Magnon to puff up like a bullfrog? Marcela thought fast and said it was Kevin's, so suddenly Fer is all happy that his son is banging somebody. "THAT'S MY BOY!" He is SUCCCH a jerk.

Marcela, knowing the condom was Jennifer's, calls to talk. Jennifer says she isn't particularly PLANNING to have sex but "better safe than sorry. Anyway, Daniel is a love, nothing is going to happen." Marcela marvels that adolescence is so complicated.

  • Helena, grinning at the gigantic flower arrangement, encourages Eva to go for it with Adriano. Eva indignantly says she will stay with her good memories and implies Helena should be doing the same.

  • Eva tells Adri to quit it or get slammed with a harrassment suit. "You're taking advantage of a fragile, weak widow. No more flowers, next time I'll dump them on your head with all the water. And don't look at me when I leave!" Adri growls with desire. "She loves me, she loves me not ..." He eats a flower...

  • It's time for a corporate trip to the beach to repair damaged relations with the locals. Rebe has a tantrum because the trip is this weekend, that's not enough time for her to prepare, nobody cares if she goes or not.

  • "STOP fighting with Helena!" Pluto shouts at Rebe. They fight, he chokes her, she finds it very sexy. They barely detach from their clinch in time for Helena's entrance. Pluto: "I called Rebe in here to make her apologize to you, Helena." "Sorry" says Rebe, venemously. Helena apologizes too: "Let's work in harmony."

  • Phone gossip on the job: Rebe lies to her friend Angelica that she's been having fabulous sex with Pluto. Angela brags about how wonderful it is to be married and lounging around doing nothing in Santi's overpriced luxury apartment. Rebe sneers - Santi hasn't told anybody he's married.

  • Mimi to Eva: "It isn't fair to tell Helena to wait for Juan Carlos!" Eva/JC moans: there's been no progress in proving his innocence and he can't get into the lockbox.

  • Eva brings Eugenia to the hospital for studies and tells a nurse he hopes "She'll be as she used to be." "How do you know how she used to be?"

The doctor asks Eva what medicines Eugenia has been taking and says "Her husband should know all about this, I'd like to talk to him."

  • Eva/JC goes to see Modesto. A mom and daughter come out of Modesto's office. "I told you not to come here Carmen, we'll talk later." "Adios, Papa," says the daughter, Claudia. "I'll expect you tonight in the hotel," says Carmen.

"My father is the worst hypocrite!" JC gasps. By he worms the name of the hotel out of Claudia (Mallorca) but Carmen frostily refuses help getting there: "We're of the provinces and we know SOME people might rob us in the big city."

  • A giant gossipping session is interrupted when Santi's wife comes in and throws herself into his lap, shouting "don't you want to tell your friends about your wife?" He tries to push her out the door, she makes a huge scene, he's mortified.

  • Helena asks Pluti a favor: she'd like to see Toni's thesis since Adri wants to dedicate the project to his dead sister. He stalls. He reminds her what a thief Juan Carlos was. "You need to forget him."

  • I am confused because somehow Pluto seems to have gotten hold of some generic thesis on Playa Majagua and he tells Onesimo: "I need you to change all the dates in this so it will seem like Antonia's thesis. We also have to prove JC was a vile thief." Onesimo is on the job.

  • Lucia is mad she wasn't first to hear Pluto declared his love. Helena says she isn't thrilled because she still loves Juan Carlos. "I feel he is very close, that he's with me all the time, even his scent. As if he never died... I think of him and it hurts." Lucia thinks life is short, Helena should turn the page.

  • Back at the hospital, Eva says she couldn't find the husband. Eugenia wants a treat so she and Eva go to a bar for booze and cigars. By accident Eva says "Salud, mama - ha- ha." and asks "Why didn't you leave your husband when you found out he had another family?" "He's all I've got."

  • Santi isn't so pleased with how easy it was to marry a crazy girl from the barrio. He has no idea what to do. He isn't hungry. He goes for a walk.

Tucking a napkin into her infantile husband's shirt before he tucks into the food she cooked for him (where's his high chair), Marcela says: "After work we need to talk about sex with the kids."

  • Kevin is back at Candy Sweet's door with a card and a present. "Love is poetry, I love you even if you don't want me to." "A boy your age should not be with a girl like me, find a girl your age and give HER flowers. Open your eyes and find her. Goodbye, I wish you the best." He wants to keep writing to her. She doesn't answer.

  • Lalo's school director wants to talk to Helena, can she come early to school? Pluto once again invites himself along but Helena slips out alone. "What's that darn squirt done now?" Pluto growls.

  • Adri comes into Mimi's office to ask where Eva is and find out "What does she like? What are her hobbies, her favorite colors, her favorite perfumes? How can I conquer her?"

Mimi discourages him but he's tired of hearing about the dead spouse so she resignedly suggests: "Serenades, little favors, a big ice cream, tenderness, romance, but not libidinous behaviour." "I'm going to conquer her no matter what it costs me!"
It's possible that tomorrow Eugenia will discover that Eva is Juan Carlos.

Tocho was the word Adri used about Eva - means huge, enormous, but it can also mean rustic or stupid.

Thanks Melinama for this great wonderful recap. Pluti had to get a tarted up thesis of Antonia's cause he burned the original just before Antonia died. Since Helena has only been asking for it forever, I guess he wants to prove that JC was a fraudster, so maybe he will say this is what JC presented to them at GI.

Why is everyone pushing Helena to find someone new already???? Que Que What???? They ought to leave her alone.

Loved how JC keeps having that slip of the tongue. Someone is going to catch him, if he doesn't watch out. It did it with Modesto too, at the reading of Antonia's will. I still like how he is looking out for his Mama Eugenia.

So Modesto DOES have another family. At least JC knows for sure, but I wonder what he is going to do about it?

Pluti is becoming a stalker. I can't stand him anyway, but this is too much. I hope he reveals himself for what he really is.

Adri is really in lurrvvee with Eva, lol. Like how Mimi tried to discourage him, but it just egged him on. He was so funny with the flower, she loves me, she loves me not, lol. I wonder if all that stuff Mimi told him Eva likes is really what Mimi likes, lol. This should be fun to see what Adri does next.

Thanks, Melinama and Ezra for tonight's and last night's recaps.

Eugenia and her cigar were lots of fun. I like how Eva/JC is really getting to know his mother and is trying to help her.

If Eva were real, Adriano would be fine for her. As it is, he's danger and complete frustration. Funny how she told him to stop watching her rear exit and he's chewing on the flowers.

Thank you, CHF, for the recap.

Janet, if you came back tonight, I have a site for you. Learning Spanish by Telenovelas. That's how I learned. I've always said that Jaime Camil taught me Spanish. Que guapo un maestro, no?

Thanks Melinama...loved the "where's his high chair?" quip. Fernando has no redeeming qualities that I can see. He's not even a good lover, evidently.

Looking forward to watching the episode later on today, given your snappy, crisp synopsis. I'm a goner for Adriano so it'll be fun to watch him stalk Eva some more.

Thanks for the recap!

I don't get the appeal of Fernando either. Guess Marcela fell in love with him when she was young and didn't know any better and still has that romantic idea of him.

Very helpful recap!

Thanks Paula H! I'll check out that site.

I am in awe of Mimi's bosom. I don't know how the other actors can avoid staring. They just jump out at you.

I like the Marcela-Fernando dynamic. Sure, he's a pig, and she permits it. But they strike me as an ordinary couple - they're not super-hot, they have an old-fashioned way of relating to each other. They remind me a bit of my in-laws.

So what's the backstory on the kid and the pornstar he has a crush on?

THANK YOU, PAULA H. your website "Learning Spanish by Telenovelas" is soooo helpful.

Janet, At one point Fernando, Kevin's Papa, thought Kevin might be gay, so he brought him to a hooker named Candy Sweet. When Candy found out how old Kevin was, she just wouldn't do it with Kevin. Now Kevin has fallen for her and she is surprisingly nice, she is trying to let him down gently and giving him good advice about finding a girl his own age.

Thanks for a great recap. The recappers always seem to catch something I missed. Also thank you to Chapel Hill Fiddler who just taaught me a new work: tocho.

Carolina, I'm happy to hear that the site is helpful. Thanks for the feedback. I came across another useful site that describes a more intense single scene approach. Check that one too.

Marcela/Fernando? I get it. He's certainly not galán material, but he really does love Marcela and she knows it. Like a baby loves his mama. Selfish, immature, demanding, oblivious to her needs. But like a baby, he has potential, if life forces him to grow up.

Thank you, Madelaine! That whole interchange makes a lot more sense now.

And thanks again, PaulaH, I learned through those sites the importance of turning on Spanish subtitles. Now I've to figure out how that works on my TV. A project for tonight!

Thanks for the recap! And also for the vocab help; I keep tripping on that word.

Loved the quip about the high chair. Too true. I nearly expected Marcela to burp him and put him down for a nap after he ate. I still think Fernando is Good-Fer-Nada, but I do like the way Marcela deals with her real kids. She's so calm and supportive, and I feel like she conveys her values to them without being preachy or driving them away.

I loved Santi's scenes, especially when he was trying to do An-hell-ica damage control. This is why I've always liked Carlos de la Mota. He is so funny.

Sigh... I'm checking in at the last minute as usual, but wanted to thank Melinama for the recap (last night was certainly eventful) and Madelaine for clarifying the deal with the thesis.

Antonia said (back when she was alive) that the university still has a copy of her thesis, so I assume that Onesimo's tarted-up fake will only be a temporary win for Pluto.

It was sad to hear Eugenia continually say that her son wasn't interested in her health. Even before he "died," she was obviously very important to him.

So now JC has met his half-sister. And we're still wondering if he has a half-brother named Renato. We probably won't have to wait long to find out. I'm so glad the pacing of this TN is still brisk!
