Amores Verdaderos #9 Tue 11/20/12 Feverish and frustrated

Amores Verdaderos, Cap #9, Nov 20, 2012—Feverish and frustrated

Okay, again I'm going to try to "precap" by watching a downloaded copy of this episode. I'll be relying mostly on Spanish listening skills (with a little correcting as I watch the show w/ CCs). And you know what that means—lots of errors! Will correct and edit as I go along. HD screencaps coming later too.

Non-HD preview: Temptation between Big Angel and Vicki.
Another non-HD preview: Guzmancito is mortified when Nicki decks him out with her frilly, girly things as they pack for a trip.

NOTE: Some scenes and parts will be listed out of order, for better continuity (for me) and to help preserve my tenuous grasp on sanity.

Big Angel is all feverish and ill. Probably not completely aware of where he is and what's going on. He begs Vicki to not leave. She's torn. They do this whole schtick where he almost kisses her, they hover near each other then back off. Big Angel is probably hallucinating. He wants to be near Vicki (or whomever he thinks she is). Feeling very awkward about this (but at the same time drawn to our Big Angel), Vicki reminds him that she's not his wife. He keeps reaching for her, begging her not to leave. She wisely has backed away from his bed by the time Christina, his wife, rushes back in, after leaving to get a doctor.

Nicki, in what I interpret as suppressed jealousy, is ripping Guzmancito a new one for having his "little friend" do a sleepover. The "little friend," Big Angel's almost-certainly virginal daughter Lily, gets pretty pissed about this. She just came to take a shower in the bodyguards' bathroom, because the other shower didn't work. Unfortunately she's only wrapped in a big towel and it looks kinda incriminating. Guzmacito is trying to explain that it isn't what it looks like. Nicki doesn't listen, of course. Implies that Lily is a little slut who hooked up with Guzmancito after only knowing him from last night. Lily is so angry that she lunges at Nicki. Guzomancito has to restrain her and Nicki struts off in full self-righteous mode.

Vicki kinda wants to stay with Christina and Big Angel in the room, but Christina says not to worry, you can go. Vicki says okay, but anything you need . . . After she's gone, Big Angel feverishly talks about "the van . . . the van . . . " and then cries out for Victoria, which does not please Christina. Vicki goes to the kitchen and instructs Thomasina (the housekeeper-lady) to tend to anything Big Angel needs.

After Vicki has taken off, Nikki comes to the kitchen and is chewed out by Thomasina for the whole mass-eating-of-the-candy trick. Nikki's first reaction is to realize that Guzmancito didn't rat her out after all. Then Nikki comes up with some wild tale about how the candy was used in some sort of artwork collage project by one of her friends? I don't think Thomasina is going for it.

Another brief altercation between Guzmancito and Nikki, where he denies ratting out Nikki for her escape attempt the night before. No satisfying resolution. Lily visits with Guzmancito and invites him to visit them on their little farm. Lily hears about her dad's illness and rushes to his side.

Paula, Anibal's main squeeze, is visiting with Anibal's secretary (and her friend/informant) and are talking about what Paula found out. Anibal's former main squeeze had a daughter, and now that daughter has her own daughter, meaning Anibal is a grandpappy again. Paula talks about how Anibal shouldn't find out about this, but then again, maybe he should, but how would she explain her finding out without revealing that the secretary gave her the letter? Words words words. I think some of the words are giving a back story about why Anibal never married Paula (his family hated her guts). I think Vicki's sister (the other daughter of Anibal) went to Europe, even, and she has nothing to do with her dad (and he acts as if she's not his daughter). Paula is like a phantom to the family, it sounds like. No one meets her or want to talk to her. She's tired of this "pact of silence," and her friend (Anibal's secretary) is supportive. Friend/secretary asks how Paula feels about dumping her kids at such a young age. Paula gives the old song and dance about how she's sad, she did bad, she's a momma, blah blah. She's glad that Beatriz has forgiven her, and is upset that Guzmancito (Francisco) hasn't yet. (Will have to fill in the details here later because I'm sure I missed stuff or misheard.)

The doctor has visited Big Angel. He's got an infection. He seems less delirious now. He's got to take it easy and follow instructions. I think Christina wants to go back to the ranch, but it's a two hour drive. Thomasina doesn't know why there's a big rush. We know what the big rush is. Christina wants her Big Angel to be away from Vicki. However, the doctor warns against Big Angel travelling, and says he does so at his own risk. She gives a prescription for some medication.

Kendra does an ad in the the studio for Vicki and Nelson. Something with her skiing against a greenscreen background, and they add the snow later. Very hokey and fakey. Kendra pleases Vicki and gets signed exclusively with the agency. Vicki is genuinely warm and friendly to Kendra. Viewerville hates Kendra all the more, seeing how sweet Vicki is to her, while Kendra is behind all of Vicki's pain and terror of late. While visiting with Vicki in her office, Kendra overhears Vicki make an appointment with someone for 3 pm the next day (I think). Kendra listens intently as suspenseful music plays. Uh oh. Then Kendra brings up the kidnapping and Vicki mentions that Big Angel has quit, and she'll miss him. More suspenseful music and Kendra looks thoughtful.

Guzmancito has found a new bodyguard guy to replace Big Angel. Some nice-looking but somewhat nondescript guy in his 30s named Zambrano. He's introduced to Nelson and Salsa-dude.

Guzmancito and Nikki start to get into another spat in the plant room. Nicki snarkily insults him which prompts him to approach her as if he's going to shake her. They are interrupted by Anibal, her grandpappy. Gives Nikki a big watch, which she loves. She squees in her spoiled way, with lots of annoying "OKs". Anibal tells her that one of the mares has given birth and she squees about that. After she's gone, Anibal sternly tells Guzmancito to watch after Nikki and do not fail him. Guzmancito solemnly promises.

Beatriz calls up Paula and they chat for a bit. Someone knocking on the door (Gambler Guzman Dad) cuts the call short. I think Paula tells Beatriz that she can't answer the phone at night, so don't call then. Gambler dad starts in with delusional gambler crap. Beatriz cuts him short. He'd be better off looking for a job. Dad thinks Paula has suggested that to her, but Beatriz says that Paula NEVER talks about him. Something about Dad's reaction makes Beatriz ask if he's still in love with Paula. He pauses, looks pale, and then through gritted teeth says he hates Paula with all of his soul, and quickly departs.

Kendra is talking with someone while driving. She's hiring someone to do something bad, telling him to look up Big Angel in his hometown. Douchebaggery is afoot.

Christina is trying to spoon-feed Big Angel, who still looks under the weather but much better. He's acting like a spoiled boy, turning his head in response to the spoon she holds up to him. She has a temper outburst but quickly apologizes, saying she's just uncomfortable here at this house. They both know they'll leave as soon as they can.

Lily visits her dad and (I think) comments on how eager mom (Christina) was for Big Angel to work there, and now suddenly she's changed her mind. Is it because mom has realized how dangerous the job is? Big Angel looks impactado.

Christina needs to get a prescription filled for Big Angel. Thomasina says that Vicki will pay for it, as she is very generous. Christina seems kind of ungracious as she says, "I imagine." She says something snarky about Big Angel got hurt because he was looking after Vicki, which raises Thomasina's eyebrows, and then hands the prescription to Thomasina and says, "Get it filled, soon please." Just a little too much edge to her there.

Anibal is telling Vicki that it's okay for Nikki to go to the house in the country because she's got a bodyguard and what's the point of having a bodyguard if you never go anywhere. Otherwise they'll all be trapped in the house all the time. Vicki is still worried but resigns to her dad's will. Thomasina comes in to tell Vicki that Big Angel is getting better (?) but that the wife is crazy with jealousy. Thomasina figuratively rolls her eyes at Vicki's astonished reaction.

Hilarious scene where Nicki is packing up half her room for this trip, and makes poor Guzmancito carry all sorts of pink frilly things, much to his horror. She also plops some girly bug-eyed sunglasses on poor Guzmancito's face. Vicki comes by to see this and admonishes (half-laughing) Nicki to not do this to the "poor boy." Guzmancito looks stoic and mortified through his whole ordeal.

Vicki and Nicki have a semi-candid mom-daughter chat. Vicki is concerned about Nicki's eating habits and wants her to see the nutritionist, but Nicki blows that off and says she'll eat fine in the country. Then Nicki says how she seems always to come after Vicki's and Nelson's work. Vicki is mortified, hugs Nicki and says that she's so sorry that she didn't give Nicki the attention she obviously needed, but she's going to try to fix that now. Hugs. Asks Nicki to tell her what she's feeling. Nicki seems reluctant. Vicki is then explaining that her own childhood was very strict, and hard to explain. I missed more than a little here, but I think Nicki wants to have a little more of her own life and Vicki agrees. Hugs.

Angry competing agency lady whose name I didn't catch is angrily looking at Kendra's picture and wants to hire her. A nice-looking, semi-nerdy bespectacled young man named Estefano comes in and calls her "mom." She rants about how Kendra is who she wants for the agency (I think). She's fed up that Vicki always seems to snap up the things that she (bitter lady) wants. Something something . . . she rants more about Vicki how she got her "bad blood" from her dad. (I think.) The son seems uncomfortable and I get the feeling he's going to be a good guy in this story.

Big Angel seems much better now, so it's time to go. Guzmancito and Big Angel are saying their final goodbyes in the kitchen. Guzmancito is going to be in Santa Rita (Big Angel's town) and Big Angel says to look him up! All is friendly and bromancey. Christina comes in and is introduced to Guzmancito. He's invited over for a meal. Lily comes in and smiles at Guzmancito. They're all carrying their bags and off they go but Big Angel forgot to take one of his pills, so he stays behind to get some water. Of course Vicki strolls in just then. They have a nice talk. She tells him that she's sure that no other bodyguard she has will measure up to him. He laughs and says what he did was all instinct. She's thinking about Salsa-dude's claim that Big Angel has this awesome spy background, and says he can't deny his past forever. This flies right past Big Angel's head. He tells her he'll pay her back as soon as he can. She won't have any of that, since he took a bullet for her. Okay then, he replies "his house is her house" (a common saying to a guest in a house, but also in this meaning, she paid his mortgage). She pauses and says, "In that case, my life is a little bit yours." (Because he's, like, saved it TWICE.) Meaningful looks exchanged. Then she shakes his hand in thanks. He pumps the handshake to an almost violent level. She has to use her other hand to steady it a bit. The handshake doesn't quite turn into hand porn. Then he takes his leave, thanking her again for everything. After he's gone, she puts her recently handshaken hand to her face, and looks impactada.

Angry, jealous competing agency lady is offering Kendra a sweet contract deal of any duration she chooses. Kendra refuses.

Scarred baddie who tried to kidnap Vicki is being visited by Sunglasses-Salsa guy. He's sniveling and pathetic now. He's willing to try again to kidnap Vicki. Salsa-guy isn't interested anymore, and throws down some bills for him, so he can get out of the country. I don't think they're enough, but Salsa-guy says that ain't his problem.

Back with angry, jealous agency lady. I think she's sweetening the deal with Kendra. She wants Kendra to do a little industrial spying. Kendra thinks that if the price is right, "Why not?" Bitter agency lady is smiling.

Speaking of sniveling, Nelson is doing some of it himself. He wants to take over the agency duties (to better to boink all the pretty models without Vicki underfoot). But Anibal isn't going for it. (Not that he knows about the model-boinking part.) Vicki has helped make this agency one of the greatest in Latin America. She's awesome. She stays. Punto. (Only he says more than that.) Nelson squirms. Vicki approaches them and is told by Anibal that she won't be replaced. After Anibal leaves, Nelson tries to pin the blame on Vicki for this, but she says no, it's that her dad has very fixed ideas. (I.e. he sees through B.S. Just saying.) Vicki is then talking with Nelson about how they have to pay better attention to Nicki and they are going to see her that night. But Nelson just ain't all that interested, and stalks off, in a snit.

Cut to the country, where Nicki and Guzmancito have arrived. She's going to the stables. She's giving Guzmancito some super-snide instructions about how if she needs him, she'll call him. He obediently says okay. Then she goes in to visit the momma horse and her little baby. Squeeing and actual normal human behavior from Nikki as she gushes over the horses. Guzmancito spies this furtively and smiles to himself as he watches her act like a sweet girl for a change.

END OF EPISODE!!!

AVANCES: Fire, fire, fire. Looks like Big Angel's lovely little casa in the country bursts into flames, with Lily inside. Guzmancito is around to do a rescue. Will he succeed?

Elvira thanks so much for this super recap. You didn't miss anything. Loved this recap, it flowed so well and was snarky, douchebaggery indeed, lol. I loved the Vikki/Angel bed scene. I think there was hand porn, when she touched her face with the hand he shook, :)

Nikki is actually normal when she wants to be. I liked that scene with her and the horses.

Ya know for a minute I thought maybe the Angel was really calling for his wife, when he told Vikki not to leave him, but I think he was really talking about Vikki, cause he called for her, after she left, hmm.

I don't think Paula ever told Anibal she was married before and had children. I think that is the big secret she is hiding from him, not a spoiler, just a guess.

Elvira the bad lady's name is Odette vda de Longoria, she is Estafano's mother and the arch enemy of Vikki. She hates Vikki and her family and I really wonder maybe, just a guess not a spoiler that maybe Pilar, Anibal's dead wife, is related to her. Maybe that is why she mentioned the bad blood. I think she hates Anibal too.

Elvira,
i will get to read your recap in a little while, but had to comment on something i just thought of...
OT: what surname did Gael and Paloma use when they got married in Abismo?
Gael already knew he was an Aragon but could have used Mondragon,
Paloma had no idea what surname she had... unless Ramona did have one... she did not know who was her father either...
so what will the baby names have?
Aragon Mendoza is what they should by birth, but they could easily be Mondragon del Diablo, Aragon del Cenote, etc etc... i rewatched their weddin again and the new padre just called them Gael and Paloma.

I just posted a comment on your amazing recap of yesterday Aribeth. Pure gold.

Elvira, I smiled as soon as I saw "Feverish and frustrated". The perfect title. This was incredibly fun and told with superb style and wit. "She squees in her spoiled way, with lots of annoying "OKs"", "bromancey" and "The handshake doesn't quite turn into hand porn" were among my favs.

I also enjoyed your insight: "especially Nicki, in what I interpret as suppressed jealousy, is ripping Guzmancito a new one". Perfect!

Madelaine, I also thought Angel was calling for Chris, but his delirium was about Vicki. So glad they didn't kiss although that is the closest "non-kiss" ever.

I also liked the scene with Nikki and the horses (who were lovely). So, she's not all bad, OK? :)

I'd like to see more of Beatriz but glad we were spared seeing her abusive husband.

I think we all know what's going to happen in the fire. Won't comment til tomorrow til we know for sure but another terrible heartache is to come for Angel...

Happy Thanksgiving all. See you Monday...

Diana

And Elvira, your screen shots were spectacular!!! Thank you so much.

Diana

Thanks everyone! I have yet to put in the HD screencaps. Hopefully soon. I may be away from the computer for a while, but hopefully within a few hours!

Thank you Elvira! Love the pic of Guzman. LOL! I dozed off, so I actually missed that scene with the sunglasses.

When Viki was in the room, JA mumbled Cristi's name. When Cristi came back into the room, he mumbled Viki's name. He obviously has BOTH ladies on the brain.

Elvira - Thank you for the recap.! Yes, much douchebaggery, indeed, in this episode. Probably in this entire telenovela.

Cristina is turning into quite the irritating character. Jealousy does not become her.

'Angry competing agency lady' (what is her name?) needs an eye patch, and then she would look like the wacko villana in Cuna de Lobos. Maybe she hates Anibal because her son is secretly Anibal's son? With this story, anything is possible. EVERYONE seems to be related to everyone else, in one form or another.

Okay, I hate Kendra and even more I hate her corkscrew curls hair. They look so fake to me. That's probably done on purpose so that we'll hate her even more. How was her hair stick straight for the snow-ski shoot and back to curlz , when, minutes later in Vik's office? Gah. I never judged people's hair before telenovelas. Still don't, except telenovela characters. Ack.

Elvira - Terrific recap. Loved the title. So glad you included a pic of Guzmancito in dress-up.

Cristina's jealousy is understandable - the attraction is mutual, they'd be together 24/6, and Vicki's rich and accomplished - but hope she tones it down and absolutely does not make Lili a pawn. I see the opening credits, so I know where this is going, but it's in my DNA to support a wife unless she's an evil beyotch.

So far Nelson is a wipeout - no redeeming values. Lousy husband, lousy father, lousy businessman. Vicki asking him to hug her in bed was just sad.

I like Anibel. At least he cares about his kids. And that voice doesn't hurt.

Thank you for the wonderful recap, Elvira!

Oh, that scene with the horses was lovely.

Nelson is a jerk, and Capetillo is doing a great job with the role.

Niecie - I'm bothered by the fact that JA has a wife (Cristina) and that we know he'll end up with Viki per the 'entrada' of this telenovela. It makes me just know something bad will happen to Cristina, and I don't like that. Yet. If she gets any witchier, though . . . ;o)

Unitl Refugio is over, I've only been watching this with not even one eye, but I've religiously read the recaps, so I don't get lost.

Thank you Elvira for the screen shots, otherwise I'd be making up these characters in my head (those that don't show up on the promos).

I think I'm going to enjoy this show.
Anita from Refugio

I can help recap every once in a while if someone needs a break. Let me know. I can't do it EVERY WEEK, but I can fill in. This show is so cheesy, that I insist on recapping it.

P.S. I don't do screenshots, so my recaps will be boring. Also, I embellish stuff.

Also, I embellish stuff.

That's what we love about you.

Ha,ha...Salsa dude, Salsa guy and Sunglasses-Salsa guy. Thank you for a very entertaining recap. Great pics as well.

Thank you everyone again! I didn't get to the screencaps yet. Busy day for me. I will just add them at my leisure, I guess! I have the episode ready to be screencapped and it would be a waste to not do it, you know?

Don't worry about doing screencaps if you are thinking of recapping. Most of the recappers on Caray don't screencap at all. I'm a geek, so I like doing it (I'm also a bit of a video freak, with encoding HD episodes on my computer and everything). So don't feel any pressure to screencap; it's entirely optional! :D
