Amores Verdaderos #13 Mon 11/26/12 Boys and girls, please don’t play with guns
* Liliana and Cristina meet Paula at the elevator, because you know, Mexico City is such a little pueblo that two quasi-archenemies like Paula and Victoria both own apartments in the same house. Paula is impactada: “They are the daughter and the granddaughter of Aníbal!” Thank you, Captain Obvious.
* José Ángel, the adorable manchild is playing James Bond all around the house. The scene is very funny and hilarious until the very moment when Vic shows up with a vase and the very secret agent accidentally shoots her. *Viewerville: headdesk* Okay, that was it, end of story, the female protagonist is dead, and the male protagonist will spend his remaining days in jail.
Or maybe there's more.
* Dumbass Angel is beside himself with grief, horror and guilt. He runs to Victoria, hugs her and cries like a child. The shootin frightened the living daylight out of every member of the household, except for Francisco (naturalmente), who tells Nikki to go back to her room, and then he carefully approaches the living room. There he finds Arriaga and Victoria. More drama. Suddenly, la señora wakes up, it turns out she just fainted, and now both she and Nikki try to convince the weeping José Ángel that they aren’t angry at him, it wasn’t his fault, nothing bad happened, don’t be so sad, don’t feel that guilty, cheer up, et cetera. Because our Angel has a nervous breakdown and he swears he’ll never touch a gun again. He hates guns! Those things are the devices of the devil! *Yes, this is how a secret agent superman talks. Now how will Salsero explain THAT to Victoria?* Victoria asks everyone to keep their mouth shut about what happened and don’t tell anything to Nelson and Aníbal.
* At Meta Imagen the Greatest Innovative Artist Ever work on a new godawful commercial. Salsero’s phone rings. Is that Kendra, asks him Nelson hopingly. No, it’s Arriaga, says Dances with Sunglasses with a strong “I Hate My Life” expression on his face. Angel informs him about the tragedy that almost happened. Salsero is pissed off at Arriaga: the last thing he needs now is that idiot shooting Victoria. Her death would be totally wasted and they would gain nothing out of it.
* Victoria and Arriaga are sitting in her SUV. Angel still looks like he swallowed a lemon so Vic tries her best to cheer him up and asks him to put some music on. What a surprise, it’s one of the romantic theme songs of Vic/José Ángel. They both smile. *These two could compete for the “who has the brightest 1000 watts smile” award.”
* Paula tells her BFF Hilda (Aníbal’s secretary) about the lost-and-found daughter and grandchild of Aníbal. It’s a very messy situation and Paula is terrified that she might lose Aníbal forever because of them. But worry not, because a light-bulb lights over Mastermind Hilda’s head: she thinks Paula could turn the situation into her favor. First of all, she needs to gain the confidence of the enemies, aka Cristina and Liliana.
* The Arriaga ladies are cleaning up the apartment and they are talking about Liliana’s plan for the future. She’s going to university soon and she wants to find a job to help her parents (since Daddy’s money goes right into the reconstruction of the little house). Cristina, as usual, is worried for Lili because Mexico City is a dangerous place, but she’s also very proud of her child.
* Adriana cries for her lost baby, then she calls her godfather, Antonio… who spends the day with Aníbal, by the way. She begs him no to tell anyone she returned to Mexico, and tells him he’s always been a good friend of hers and a confidant of her father. So please, tell her what he thinks about the baby. Could she be still alive? They agree to meet later.
* Vic introduces José Ángel to the staff at Meta Imagen (and after they leave, the secretaries immediately start gushing about the guapísimo bodyguard). Kendra shows up too, she’s on her way to Casanova’s office. Viewerville is given another inner monologue of Salsero, now he strongly hopes Barbie’s just playing with Nelson… and he says it for her own good.
* At a swimming pool a young hot guy picks Nikki up and jokingly threatens her with throwing her into the pool. He almost pays with his life for that because Guzmáncito MacGyver half-strangles him with a towel. Awesome. Nikki screams at Francisco to let the guy go, for God’s sake, he’s Giorgio, her trainer! Oops. Uhm, Guzmán is sorry. Really, really sorry. Nikki takes offense at the assumption that Francisco is her newest piece. Plehehease, she’s always had good taste! This man is her employee, her bodyguard, OK? *Oh yes, now I know which word I was missing in this episode.* Francisco apologizes again.
* Victoria and Arriaga are in the conference room, which looks more like a nightmare with that ugly picture of Aníbal, aka the God of Meta Imagen, and with that giant green pencil stabbed into the table. *The creators aren’t too subtle when it comes to phallic symbols, are they.* The designers show Victoria the newest logo they created for the brand “Tirolesa”. Arriaga and Viewerville burst into laughing, but it turns out Arriaga’s amusement is based on a purely professional observation: that cow has a hoof. Horses have hooves, not cows. Wow, he’s right, says Victoria. Judging from the side eyes the lead designer guy is giving him, I think Arriaga got a new enemy today.
* Nelson tells Kendra he can’t stop thinking about her. She feels the same way about him, but her principles and morals prevent her from furthering their relationship. *Viewerville: attention, attention, danger of barfing* She plays with him like a cat with a mouse and yes, Nelson can’t hold himself back anymore. It is kissing time.
* Arriaga apologizes for being nosy, but Vic’s very impressed by him. He isn’t just a great bodyguard but he’d be a good advisor, too. But now please go to the bathroom and wash your hands because they are dirty with ink. Angel is the epitome of an elephant in a china shop: he scares every employee he meets on his way to the bathroom with his blue hands.
* Kendra and Nelson are quite busy with each other: no, no, no, no, yes, yes, yes, yes, no, oh yes. They are in the middle of eating each other’s faces when José Ángel opens the door… Busted! The Angel is shocked but he doesn’t say a word and he leaves with a “it’s not not my job but you’re a scumbag” gesture. Outside he meets Victoria… uh-oh, what will happen now? I tell you what: nothing. She shows him where the bathroom is and after he leaves she laughs her head off at him. Arriaga’s relieved that Vic didn’t enter Nelson’s office.
* Nelson is outraged. He saw us, he saw us! No es posible, maldita sea!
* In the hall Vic meets the nervous Kendra and tells her she’ll be the model for that new campaign. Barbie is over the moon.
* Arriaga notices there’s something between Salsero and Kendra, too, and he informs the King of Sunglasses that he should forget about her. Salsero assumes José Ángel wants her for himself but Arriaga shows him his wedding ring and asks him not to tell that. Not even think about that. And don’t joke about that. Ever.
* At the swimming pool Nikki tells Guzmán that if he likes swimming that much, then he should get into the swimming pool, too. Francisco suspects she just wants to escape while he’s changing into a bathing suit, but she insists that all she wants is to make peace with him. All right, all right, Guzmán is convinced. *Naive guy.*
* Nelson tells Salsero what happened. Dances with Sunglasses would be so worried if he was him, after all, Arriaga isn’t a chatterbox type of guy. But Casanova is sure Angel is going to tell everything to Victoria. Salsero looks bored… and even more psychopathic without his sunglasses on.
* Victoria wants to know more about Arriaga (now that they’ll spend so much time together). Angel may be just a simple countryman as he says, but he’s a man of culture and he has a knowledge of martial art. Okay, okay, here come the idyllic flashbacks. No, please, no more martial art scenes! Arriaga’s father (played by Eduardo with his old moustache from Senda de gloria) was an anthropologist who fell in love with an Indian girl. They got married and they lived happily for many years. José Ángel went to the university to study agronomy, but after two years he had to quit because his father died, and he had to take care of their land and his sick mother. After his death his mother lost the will to live, and soon she died, too. Victoria is moved by his story. And how did he meet Cristina?
* Speaking of Cristina, Paula is about to introduce herself to the Arriaga girls.
* He met her when she was only 18 years old. It was love at the first sight, they started to date and they got married soon. He sold his old house and he they bought the ranch… where his daughter was born. Victoria would love to listen to his stories all day, but Nelson nervously runs into the office. The air freezes between the two men. What did your bodyguard tell you, Victoria?! Vic is surprised: why, does Arriaga have to tell her something?

The scene started off so playfully. I was smiling along with Jose as he practiced his best James Bond routine. Yanez is simmply adorable - I hope he is having half the fun I am watching him...There were so many scenes in which he shone last night but I'll wait to say more until Aribeth's recap is posted.
Diana
Paula seeing Cynthia and Lilliana was primo. This is going to be a cat and mouse game in which Cynthia doesn't realize that she and her daughter are the mice.
Poor JA. It was such cute fun, till he almost killed Victoria. Nikki was sweet trying to reassure him it was okay - I got the sense she had real empathy for him.
GinCA
Yes, the glass vase that she was holding was shattered by a gunshot.
However, I thought that prior to the shooting, Arriaga removed the magazine clip containing the bullets. The camera later shows the gun in the holster with the handle of the gun plainly visible and showing an empty space where the ammunition clip should have been inserted.
Was I imagining all this? I didn't record this episode so I can't review my observations.
Paula seeing Cristina & Liliana in the elevator, and saying out loud who they were .... I was having "Destinos" flashbacks. There are a lot of scenes in this telenovela where I feel like I'm watching "Destinos", because things get spelled. out. to. us. viewers. LOL.
I've only watched half of my recording of this episode, and I just knew JA would shoot himself in the foot, or his Lorena Bobbitt, or something like that.
Oh, well, he shoots our main character instead. So what does he do, but follow true telenovela rules and sob all over her... NEVER thinking to call 911. Gah!
This is a light, sort-of-fun, no-brainer telenovela. But really, I wonder if Looneyvision will put it on in the afternoon. It's almost a little too cheesy for evening programming, if you know what I mean. I am NOT complaining ... just speculating.
Now to watch the rest of the fun ...
If Looneyvision dares put this telenovela to another timeslot to give space to a TBLTFLMOMOMOMOE show AGAIN, it will be me who'll shot herself in the foot. :)
But so far AV has very good ratings in the US, so hopefully that won't happen. (+ There were many crazy shows like this before in the evening timeslot. FELS, anyone? :))
I also saw bits and pieces of this, but I did see the shooting scene, which was hilarious. I can't believe Vicki would still believe this secret agent lie after that incident.
I don't think it's such a big coincidence that Paula lives in the same building as Cris and Lili. When they moved in, Vicki said the building belongs to her father. No surprise that he put his mistress there.
When Lili said she would go to university and get a job to help out JA, Crissie said she would help out too, maybe starting up a taco stand. I sure hope Crissie writes off Paula as a busybody and steers clear of her. Paula's an idiot. Whether Anibel’s long-lost love shows up or not, the man is not marrying her.
I’d like to see Guzmancito in the pool again - if Nikki runs off, so be it.
That James Bond scene was too funny, until I actually thought he shot Vikki. It's a good think Guzmancito was there. The Angel needs some gun safety training that is for sure. I agree with Neice in MD, I too think there was a bullet already chambered in the gun. That clip was out.
Loved the Board Room scene too and that pic of Anibal is hideous, lol. I too liked that Angel pointed out the hooves on the cow, lol.
I too think Chrissie needs to stay clear of Paula, she is after all, just pumping her for info. Chrissie is usually suspicious. Maybe her radar will go off, if they continue their convo this evening.
I feel so sorry for Adriana. The poor thing, and Antonio, her padrino, I think knows what happened to her bebe. I wonder who the baby daddy is? And will Antonio really tell her what happened to the bebe.
Also like how you sprinkle Actual Spanish words in your descriptions. Thank you, so enjoyable!!
Your pictures were outstanding, especially Rulli with your well placed caption! EY looked dreamy in all.
Also, ITA, if Univision dares to move this to the daytime, I will be beside myself. I think this show is great - humor, romance et al.
"quasi-archnemisis" and "Captain Obvious" wer among my favorites.
Love how Jose showed Salsero his wedding ring. How well he picked up there is something between Salsero and Kendra. I get the feeling Jose and Christina love each other but aren't madly in love.
Thanks again Aribeth!!
