Por ella soy Eva #85 11/16/12: Recognition, and Lack Thereof.

No pimp slap for Claudia tonight. Better luck next week!

Marcela asks Fernando where he got the money for all the home entertainment stuff he brought home. He tells her he found he's getting a big bonus too. She disapproves of spending money before receiving it. "Party-pooper," is the wittiest reply Ferni can dredge up.

JC wipes his new mirror clean and tells Mimi he's still bummed out over Helena. Fortunately, his parents will be visiting at GI tomorrow and he's got a plan!

Modesto and Eugenia discuss tomorrow's visit to Grupo Imperio. Eugenia says there's someone at GI she'd prefer to avoid. She asks Modesto what he plans to do about Claudia. Modesto ignores her question in favor of getting a drink of water.

Next day, Renato tells Helena he's reviewed all the info and thinks Fitsa (that's Pluto's shadow company) looks like their best bet. Helena says they do look good, but she'd like to talk things over with Adriano before making a decision. Renato says he'll arrange a time for them to meet with Adriano.

Adriano tells Renato he doesn't have time to see Helena now, because he's meeting with JC's parents. Renato seems to froth internally at the thought. Adriano adds that Pluto has been saying great things about him. Renato secretly froths some more.

Rebeca summons lazy Onesimo to the office.

Eugenia and Modesto show up at Grupo Imperio. Eva pulls Eugenia aside and asks if she remembers signing any papers around the time she wandered out of the house by herself and went to the empty theater alone. She drags her to Pluto's office and asks if she recognizes him. Of course - Eugenia knows him as Antonia's husband and she saw him at JC's funeral. But that's all she's ever seen of him.

So much for JC's big plan. Pluto wants to talk to Eva, so Eugenia wanders off by herself again and gets lost in the halls of Grupo Imperio. She runs into Onesimo - and recognizes him as the fan who came to her house and she gave him an autograph. Onesimo owns up to being a big fan, but denies that he's ever been to her house. He says he's meeting her for the first time.

Pluto wants to know how Eva knows Eugenia. She says they met soon after JC died. Unable to poke any holes in her story, Pluto suggests that they have a double wedding - Eva, Adriano, Helena, and himself. (Oh, yuck. Just... yuck.)

Meanwhile, Adriano tells Modesto that JC opened an account in Eugenia's name - and he shows Modesto the proof. Modesto is ashamed. He asks Adriano not to tell Eugenia. He also tells him that his love child is living with them, but they don't get a chance to talk about this because Eugenia finally finds Adriano's office. Eva joins them a moment later. Adriano announces their engagement. Eugenia is impactada.

Onesimo tells Pluto that he just ran into JC's mom, but fortunately she's easily confused so it will probably be okay. Pluto is annoyed because he told Onesimo ages ago to keep out of the office lest he be recognized. (Pluto probably should have thought of that when he told Onesimo to be at Rebeca's disposal and keep an eye on her.)

Eva corners Modesto and Eugenia on their way out and tries to make nice with them. Modesto tells her congrats on your engagement, but please stay away from my wife. Eva thanks Modesto for getting Eugenia some help.

Eva goes off on her merry way and misses seeing Rebeca come out of the elevator right in front of Eugenia, who, amazingly, does not recognize her as the fake journalist who interviewed her at the hospital. Rebeca quizzes Vero at the reception desk about Onesimo's whereabouts.

Lucia chatters to Helena about wedding preparations and honeymoon plans. Similar to her talks with Renato, Lucia doesn't realize that she pretty much carries the conversation. Eventually Helena suggests that they get some work done.

Onesimo has dutifully left the GI office and is eating a snack up in a tree someplace. He calls impatient Rebeca and tells her he's stuck in a traffic jam. Then Jacqui comes into Rebeca's office with some papers and mail, including a Very Important Magazine about women in business. Rebeca tries to get her to do some errands for her. Unfortunately, she calls her "Vero" because those blue-dress women all look alike to her, so Jacqui refuses. She tells Rebeca that Onesimo was already there earlier, but left. Miffed, Rebeca mutters about "that lying naco."

Eva is looking at her own copy of the Very Important Magazine. An article about Helena is inside. Excited that Helena is finally getting the national recognition she deserves, she proudly brings it to Helena, but is horrified to find that Helena's one-page article is followed by a three-page article about Eva herself!

And now for something completely different: the Fernando and Marcela show. Ferni is looking at cars on the Internet. He wants to buy a car for himself. Marcela says their old car isn't dead yet; and how can he be so sure about that bonus? (It's a good question, since they're having this conversation on company time and he is now fiddling with another paper airplane.)

Adriano is playing putt-putt in his office again. Pluto asks him to let Helena choose the Playa Majagua developer. Adriano says he will make the final decision. Then he takes a swing with his putter and breaks the frame on a photo of (I think) himself shaking hands with the Queen. He wants to travel the world with Eva on his honeymoon, but Eva doesn't want to. Pluto says so what - don't let her manipulate you like all women do.

Eva is still upset to be upstaging Helena with the longer magazine article, but consoles herself that probably nobody around there reads that magazine anyway. Rebeca bursts in with her copy and asks Eva for her autograph. She tries to rub Helena's nose in the fact that Eva got the longer story because of her role in rehiring the 100 women who were fired.

Eva goes into the lobby and is cheered by her female coworkers. Helena remains in her office, where she gets another visit from Pluto. He tells her it was JC's idea to fire all those women; and if he were still alive, they never would have been rehired. "We'll never know," Helena replies vaguely. Pluto earnestly assures her that it's true. Plus, he was fooling around with a business partner's fiancee, which caused the company to lose a huge deal, which is why the women had to be laid off in the first place. Helena wants to go to lunch immediately. (I'm not sure why this conversation made her hungry!) Pluti promises a surprise.

Eugenia is at home, putting away some of JC's things. She tells JC's photo that she doesn't understand why he's doing what he's doing. Modesto comes in to tell her that he has to go away to his work. She asks him again about Claudia, and again, he puts her off.

Adriano finally notices the hubbub in the lobby and says that just as there is a woman behind every great man, he's the great man behind Eva. Then he tells everyone to go back to work. Eva's a little annoyed that she didn't get a chance to give her speech, but Helena finds her and tells her she read that Eva got those women rehired because of her. Eva says that a lot of the things she does are motivated by Helena.

They are standing very close, looking intently at one another, their faces mere inches apart. Something about this seems familiar to Helena. "Your eyes," Helena murmurs...

Next time:
Oh, joy. Helena sets a date for her doom.

Comments:
As usual, there are a few details I need to double-check, but that'll be later this weekend. Meanwhile, if anyone notices an error or omission, please feel free to point it out - here is what I will be following up on:

- I couldn't tell what was the photo that Adriano broke

- I'm not sure if Pluto JC was fooling around with a business partner's fiancee. I mean, I think he said that - but if so, what is he talking about?

- I think I missed something in Helena's conversation with Renato

- Before the visit to Grupo Imperio, did Eugenia say something to Modesto about the fake journalist who visited her at the hospital? If so, then how is it possible that she didn't recognize Rebeca coming off the elevator? (Or maybe she DID recognize her, but didn't want to call Modesto's attention to it for fear of revealing Juan's secret?)

Thank you, Julie. LOL, I agree- yuck... just yuck.

I haven't watched the show yet- I don't seem to be able to get to the TV on time this week. But in the first episode, JC seduced someone at a GI party for some kind of merger. They got caught on camera and the deal fell through because this woman was the girlfriend of the outside business partner.

Oh - thank you! I remember the camera incident, but totally forgot that she was the guy's girlfriend... wow.

Thanks for the recap! Doesn't look like Claudia will be going anywhere soon if ever. Poor Eugenia may be stuck with a "daughter" she never had. With Helena gazing into Eva's eyes, it seems like JC is going to have to admit the truth to Helena sometime soon, I would hope. I feel like we are in a gigantic holding pattern lately . . .

Holding pattern? I feel like it's more of an incubation period. Or that carnival game where you shoot a stream of water into a clown's mouth to blow up a balloon. Pressure is building up everywhere, and with Claudia now in the mix, even Modesto has a balloon - he won't be able to keep above the fray any more, much as he would like to.

Whose balloon will burst first? And are we done with Eduardo, or is he working on a new balloon?

Oh, wait - was that carnival balloon thing just a reinvention of our anvil metaphor? Sorry about that. I can think of about a dozen other metaphors, too. Like, this is the period where we fatten up the goose. Or when we let the turkey roast undisturbed for a while before we can start basting it. I've got a million of 'em, and most are food-related. I think it's time for lunch.

Thanks for the recap, Julie!

I missed the whole thing so no corrections from me. It does seem as though the water pressure or anvils or whatever is building up. It's time for one of the story lines to be exploded/squashed, don't you think? We, the audience, can only take so much.

Yeah, I'm ready for something to happen. I think they are just teasing us with Helena looking into Eva's eyes, because it seems way too soon, but someone must be near the breaking point. I just don't know which way to look. Which pot will boil over first?

Julie - Thanks. I missed of lot of last night's show. I'm with "yuck...just yuck" too.

I think Eugenia recognized Rebecca but can't remember where. It’ll come to her later.

Right now, my favorites are Eva/Adriano and Rebecca/Onésimo - they crack me up even when there's little action.

Julie, Thanks so much for this recap.

There's a lot of French farce in the comings & goings in this show. For instance, I thought that Rebecca turned away just in time for Eugenia to miss seeing her as she got off the elevator.. People pop in & out of scenes just missing the crucial encounter. Eugenia got lost just long enough to miss the conversation about the bank account -- If Modesto hadn't asked Adri no to tell her then she might have remembered something.

I agree that whether it's anvils or carnival balloons something has to pop soon. But probably the scene where Helena sees something in Eva's eyes (and not for the first time) is probably just a tease.

Thank you for the recap, Julie.

I know Modesto's type: avoid conflict at all costs. At least when it suits him. You see it in how he treats Claudia, Claudia's mom, and Eugenia. But he wasn't afraid to be aggressive and confrontational with Juan, Eva, and Helena.

Whereas Eugenia is very direct - she always cuts straight to the chase. Even when her brain was foggy.

An excellent recap, Julie. Thanks for the 'cap and the yuck...just yuck. Both weddings are so wrong, that having them together would be a total disaster.

Something definitive does need to happen soon. Is it whack-a-mole where animals keep popping up? I feel like that's what we're in the middle of, as each character pops up with a little development that only creates more of a muddle and doesn't solve anything. We need a large knife to cut through the tangle.

La Paloma

Well said, Julie, "just yuck" .....double wedding...double yuck!
Elena. Has some amazing staying power when it comes to her friendship with Eva. These two woman really inspire one another. Wait...I forgot, Eva is a man. I keep forgetting that!!...Elena is going to feel so sad and betrayed when she figures out that Eva is JC. I don't think she's going to react all happy like she did in JCs dream where she wakes up in bed with wigless Eva/JC.

Julie- I don't think you really missed anything. Great recap!

I also feel like the storyline is in a holding pattern. My wish list is as follows:
- I want everyone to find some proof of JC's innocence (even if there is not yet any proof of Pluti's guilt).
- I want Helena to slow the Pluti train down by realizing he is another version of her father Bastardo and just wants to control her.
- I want Santi to realize that he needs to grow up and pull himself together, and that Angie is holding him back from that.
- I want Fernando to learn a lesson and actually have it stick. Each time he takes one step forward, he takes two steps back. I hope he gets into such big trouble with whatever this Rebe plan is, that he has no choice but to man up and make some changes.
- I want JC to find at least one piece of proof of his innocence that he can show everyone.
- I want Eugenia to stop being mad at JC and understand why he is creating this deception about his identity.
- I want Renato's identity to be revealed.
- I want Claudia to act like a human being that I can understand and sympathize with, and not like a snotty brat.

I could go on and on. It's a long wish list, but if even a few of these things happened in the next week, I'd be happy.

You're right, Anon 10:50 - telenovela heroines are NEVER happy when they first discover that their long-lost sweetie has been deceiving them for months.

Vivi, I love your wish list. Let me add a few more:

- I would like Eugenia to hit Modesto with a whack-a-mole mallet.

- I would like Eugenia to hit Claudia with a whack-a-mole mallet.

- I would like Helena to hit Lucia with a whack-a-mole mallet.

(Thanks to La Paloma for the whack-a-mole inspiration)

Updates! Updates! Updates!

I highlighted the updates in green for your convenience, but in summary, they are as follows:

- Before going to GI, Eugenia tells Modesto there's someone there she'd prefer to avoid. (Eva, of course.)

- (correction) Helena tells Renato she'd like to talk things over with Adriano before making a decision about choosing a builder. (Important because Helena is under the impression that she will choose, and Pluto is hoping she'll be blamed for choosing Fitsa. But in the putt-putt scene, Adriano says HE will be the decider. That could really screw up Pluto's plans.)

- The picture frame Adriano breaks appears to be a photo of himself shaking hands with the Queen. Enjoy pondering the symbolic significance.

- When Pluto tells Helena about JC's affair with a business partner's fiancee, the point he's making is that this dalliance caused the company to lose a huge deal, necessitating the massive layoff. (This does not explain why only women were included in the layoff!)

- Also, Pluti promises Helena a surprise at lunch. That should be enough to kill her appetite.

Julie-thanks so much for this fab recap. I loved your whack-a-mole comments, it had me in stitches. I too think Eugenia will remember Rebe later and Onesimo too, and what she really signed.

I know Eugenia is really bothered by JC dressing as a woman, but Eugenia I think doesn't fully understand he can't investigate unless he is dressed like Eva. I think she is mad too that Eva is marrying Adri. I think Eugenia is wondering how JC will get away with that.

Modesto does need a whack-a-mole upside the head. He needs to deal with this problem of Claudia for sure. Claudia is there for some ulterior motive and he needs to find out why she is really there.

I agree with the double yuck too for the weddings. It would be a hoot though, if Helena and Pluti were up there and someone found proof of the Pluti plot and revealed it before the marriage. I am looking on the bright side, that would defintely stop the wedding. As for Eva and Adri, I think Eva will stall, until JC finds something. I don't think Eva/JC will ever go thru with a wedding.

As far as the eyes with Helena, she has noticed this before as Guera said, is probably a big tease, but maybe the plot will move along with something soon.

Loved your lists Vivi and Julie I want to add a Lucia one

-I want Lucia to stop being such a whiner, its all about her, and be mature and wonderfully funny as she was in the beginning of this TN and not a dunce like she is now.

Oh, Eugenia definitely looked angry when she heard that Eva and Adriano were getting married.

Maybe if someone hit Lucia with a wack-a-mole mallet, it would knock out the alien body-snatcher that's taken over her identity. Then Original Lucia could be freed from her pod.

Actually, it took Eugenia finding out about Adriano's engagement to Eva for me to realize- it is rather cruel and selfish of JC to carry the charade that far. Hopefully Adriano will never find out that Eva is really a man, but JC is really stringing him along for his own purposes. But it does make for good comedy.

BTW Julie, I forgot to tell you, great title! I had to think about it for a minute, but it's perfect!

Glad you liked it. I have a long list of titles that I'd love to use, but the situation is never quite right and then I have to conjure up a new one that fits. Fortunately, this title suggested itself.

Also, Paula, thanks for pointing out that Modesto does get confrontational with people when it suits him - and when they're people he can afford to offend. Eva is exactly the opposite - another way in which Eva is helping Juan to become a more courageous person.
