El Rostro de la Venganza,

I'm not really seeing Monica and Jencarlos together, (love them both)
but maybe that's the point,
El Verdugo accepts the pretty ridiculous 18th Century glove challenge batirse en duelo (fight a duel). Fabiola argues with EV, and he asks if she’s afraid he’ll be killed by Miggy or kill Miggy.
Ángela is not pleased about Laura being JM’s personal trainer. I notice that with the supposed passage of time, Angie’s hair is longer and lighter in color.
At his house D8D continues to come on to Nora, who does appear to have a weakness for him, but thankfully resists.
While Gus, Clara, and Camilo try to talk Miggy out of the duel, NB comes to say that EV has accepted and the duel will be, what else, at dawn the next day.
Nico continues to act out about not being able to walk. He says he doesn’t want to leave the house in case someone pities him. Sam has had enough. She puts her foot down. He’s going somewhere with her the next day, plus he’s going to catch up on all the schoolwork he missed.
Fabiola tries telling Jessica to see if she’ll talk EV out of the duel, but it doesn’t work.
Ringo tells the Reptile that Valdez challenged him to a duel, and EV accepted. Ringo is very worried. EV is like a brother. He wants the Reptile to help. She suggests a dirty trick.
Sam has brought Nico to see a gym full of boys in wheelchairs getting ready to play basketball. She tells him he’s as brave as these boys.
Gus tells Miggy he’ll act as his padrino and go to check the arms and conditions in advance. NB says they needn’t worry; EV would not cheat.
Rosario bursts in on FF and EV, practically hysterical, begging him not to duel. When he tells her she needs to learn respect; she’s only an employee, FF tells him Rosario is his mother.
The Reptile says that they need to come up with a way to either fix the guns or the bullets so that Miguel dies.
Miggy tells NB that things are far enough along that she can do without his help. She doesn’t want to lose him. But he tells her he’s tired of the violence and hate. He wants to return to his family, his nieces and nephews. She asks if this means that, if he kills EV, he’ll still leave. And she also asks that, if he wins, he'll take Fabiola and Alma with him. No answer.
Rosario tells EV she promised EV Sr. that she would never tell him. She says she was always by his side, loving him unconditionally. He says she left him to a cold mother, and that is the reason he’s the way he is. He’s absolutely destroyed by this news, and tells her to leave forever. FF chews him out saying “Who doesn’t love their mother, can’t love anyone.”
JM and Laura are practicing martial arts in the park. She throws him, laughs, and then gets a call from Jessica. She then tells JM about the duel. Later JM tells Ángela and Sam about the duel.
D8D shows up to tell Sam and Willy that he’s found a doctor who specializes in the type of surgery Nico needs. He’s from another country, and will only be in LA a short while. Willy is very suspicious.
Rosario is on her way out, bag in hand, when EV stops her, in tears. He says she should stay; that this is her home.
NB tells Miggy that Jesús Matamoros had no family. EV Sr. found him in a basket floating in the river [like Moses!]. Nobody ever knew who he was.
The guns are examined while the judge [!] explains the rules of the duel.
Sam and Willy have checked, and the doctor is an eminent one.
Lately they’re big on parallel scenes. NB tells Miggy how Jesús M. got everything with no help from anyone, while Javier tells FF he wanted to be EV, and succeeded. NB says the beginning of their differences was Ringo. El Mesías wanted him to study, not get involved in the narco world. But EV accepted him. Both Fabiola and NB tell the respective guys that they don’t want them to duel.
Génesis is perched on Nico’s lap in his wheelchair. She tells him the story of how she got out of a wheelchair and walked, and he can too.
The Reptile has a plan involving getting the judge’s address from Ringo. Ringo tells her that, if EV finds out they fixed the duel, he’ll kill them both.
Nico has decided to go ahead with the operation. Like there was any doubt!
Miggy calls to more or less say goodbye to Sam and Ángela, who both try to talk him out of it. He tells them he just called to tell them they showed him what family could be.
NB tells Miggy she loves him. EV brings some champagne to share with Fabiola.
The Reptile tells Ringo she couldn’t get anything accomplished with the judge.
Laura arrives on the LA to Colombia Supersonic Jet and tells EV that Jessica asked her to come to talk him out of it.
EV gets choked up and thanks Rosario for giving birth to him and caring for him, staying as a servant just to be near him. He calls her mama. Fabiola insists on going to the duel.
JM says he lied to Ángela about something.
Everyone arrives at the duel site. Weapons are chosen. Back to back, the two pace off to the count of 10, turn and fire. We see two slow motion bullets in mid-air but, of course, don’t find out who, if anyone, got killed.
The announce Capitulos Culminantes.
Mariachi and crew are furiously trying to get into two small motorboats, as a helicopter has been sighted just minutes away. While some lament their bad luck, Mariachi says it's not bad luck, probably someone is wearing a locator chip. Náufrago says let's search Chinito, but Mariachi says there isn't time. He tells his son Chinito to get into the water, which will short out the chip. Chinito says what chip, what are you talking about? But Mariachi pushes him into the water. They then all get into the boats.
President Lopez reads Niki's editorial about the recent attacks, which have turned Medellín and Bogotá into fearful places to live. We see people at an airport scream and run away from a suitcase sitting by itself, which turned out to be just misplaced for a few seconds by a traveler. She points out that time after time, the cartel has successfully detonated these bombs, three in the last month, and the government continues to be powerless. The adviser to the President comes in, tells him, this time we REALLY have Mariachi!
Maybe. As Mariachi's two boats speed through the green water, rifles, pistols and machine guns are handed out to all. As soon as the helicopter arrives, let 'em have it! And here they are. There's a pilot we don't see, Pabon is navigating the helicopter, Aguirre is at the machine gun. But they must have orders NOT to kill the cartel guys, they probably want to capture them, because Captain Aguirre says, Colonel, we have to respond to their fire, we have superior firepower. Pabon goes, no, wait, we'll just follow them. Then, after some more shots from below, he says, we can't stay right here, we'll let them go to their hiding place, and track them. Down below, the guys laugh, and say we scared them off. We see that the helicopter is tracking Náufrago's chip on radar. (I wish they had a) brought more than one plane with a captain and a colonel in it, and b) just killed them all).
At the Model Prison (thanks, Novelera for explaining that, it DOES look like minimum security, people are playing chess, reading books, etc.), we see Galán's killer talking to some guards. Then we see the “leader” of the innocent prisoners being brought to a holding cell to be interviewed by Niki. His name is Faryad Daguer. She asks if he's the leader of the band of killers of Galán. He laughs, the only band he'd be the leader of is his colleagues at work. He's no killer. If he were, why didn't he escape, when he had the perfect opportunity to do so? He stayed to fight for his innocence. If he fled, Colonel Fernandez would have the perfect confirmation of guilt. Well then, asks Niki, why did YOU get accused? Full of irony, sarcasm and despair, he tells her “They had a raffle (una rifa) to pick the killer, and I won.”
The boats land at Coveñas, and on the copter, they're only two minutes away. The guys get out of the boat, and Náufrago says wait, we should split up. Chinito is suspicious, HE's the sapo, look how nervous he is! So Náufrago, with no other choice, hands his machine gun to Mariachi, and dunks himself in the water, you think I have a chip, I have no chip, see? Back on the copter, the blip disappears from the radar. Damn! Mariachi is reassured, says the guy's loyal, see. Now let's separate. Náufrago asks where they'll meet up, but Mariachi says don't worry about that. Náufrago goes with one other guy, while the rest go the other way.
Náufrago, realizing he has to do something, kills the other guy, then runs onto the beach waving his hands. At first the copter fires on him, but they realize he's their guy, and they land. Pabon approaches cautiously, rifle extended, but Náufrago has gotten rid of his weapons. They demand to know where Mariachi is, but Náufrago wants guarantees of safety. Aguirre says no way, you killed this other guy, you'll spend the rest of your life in jail! But Pabon has the cooler head, and says if you lead us to Mariachi, I promise I'll protect you. So I won't spend a day in jail? Pabon won't answer that one, and they get in the copter to find Mariachi.
Meanwhile, Mariachi is in his island hideout, talking to Pablo on the satellite phone. Pablo asks if he's ditched the cops, but Mariachi says unfortunately we had an infiltrator, yes, it did turn out to be Náufrago, at first he seemed okay, but there's no doubt now (this is why Mariachi split up and just sent Mariachi with one guy). Pablo says he knows your hideout, you need to get out of there, right away.
The two former virgins are having breakfast. Aurora asks Génesis how was it? Well, I did what I had to do, but it was no picnic. How was it for you? Aurora tells her she didn't do it. Good for you, you're still a virgin, you'll be happy later. Yes, I know, says Aurora, but 10 million.....? ($5,000). Trust me, says Génesis, those 10 million were not so easy to earn, honey.
Candonga and Chili are talking, Candonga wonders if the boss'll be mad. Chili says what about the fact we killed 200 innocent people, and missed the target three times? Yeah, says Candonga, but those people were just gajes de ofício (occupational hazards). Don't joke about this, says Chili, it's serious. And here comes the boss, get your leg off that chair.
First, Aurora intercepts Pablo, Sir, can I just talk to you a little? No, dear, pack your bags and leave. But I didn't get any money. Look, I'm not in the business of giving limosnas (money to beggars). Yes, yes, I know, she says nervously, but, um, I'd really like to um, sleep with you! Well, you know, sweety, I'm a noble guy, so meet me in the bedroom! She happily dashes off to her trabajo. Pablo comes to ream out Chili and Candonga, who fumble about, trying to explain their failings. Pablo has another job coming up, and this time, it must go down perfectly! Sure, boss, says Chili, we'll do everything possible. No, insists Pablo, not everything possible, you're going to make it possible. Repeat after me, we'll make it possible. Like trained monkees, they repeat this new mantra.
Niki comes to speak to Colonel Fernandez, she wants to talk about Faryad Daguer, why is everyone in your department so sure he's the killer? Fernandez tells her watch what you say, are you accusing me of something? No, says Niki, I just want to know what will happen with Mr. Daguer. Fernandez tells her he's got plenty of proof, Daguer's case goes to the judge, and he'll decide. Well, what is your response to Mr. Daguer's assertion that these proofs were made up, and it's all a big show to find him guilty? Well, who are you going to believe, the government, or some killer? Now, this interview is over. Good bye. She leaves, and he looks very worried.
In the helicopter, Pabon wants to know where Mariachi is. Náufrago says he's probably in a warehouse, just off the highway. What makes you think he'll be there? Well, because the warehouse is like a war center, they have tons of weapons. Remember, Mariachi is one of the most powerful druglords in the area. He'll be able to vastly outgun us. And if you call for reinforcements, you'll miss him. So good luck.
Once again, it's not looking so rosy for the authorities!
another wonderful recap novelera !!!
that was a great scene, Fabiola jumping in and telling Verdugo that Rosario is his mother, you could just see it was all true, in Rosario's eyes, all of those years condensed into this one moment.
wow, what a cliff hanger, someone call 911, I really can't see either dying as a good solution to anything, maybe they will now share the same hospital room with their woman by their side. making Verdugo an honorable guy has really put a twist into the story, (and it's always a pleasure to watch Gregorio Pernía)
Excellent recap, Novelera, thanks. "Capitulos culminantes" doesn't really tell us much about how much is left, but I'm sure it'll keep people watching. Definitely a nice cliffhanger for the weekend.
I was thinking FF shouldn't drink while pregnant until I remembered she already had the baby (only one day of wearing the beachball).
So we knew there was a 10% chance of Nico's operation working. With this famous doctor does that increase the odds? Does D8D have something planned? Or is it just another red herring?
I still don't fully understand how El Verdugo, Sr. and Matamoras were raising Ringo together. And am I wrong, or did they once say that EV killed his own father? Can't remember.
I bet JM's secret from Angela is also nothing drastic, but we'll see.
I'm definitely ready for a new show. This one has been going on quite a while, not just for us viewers, but for the characters (it's been at least two years, since Angela was in jail for a year, and a lot happened before that). We've had a bunch of babies (Juan Cruz, Valentin, Luz), but nothing beats the number of haircolor changes, mainly for the Reptile.
Deb, Thanks for the updates.
So Marlene Favela will be a brand new character? Ah. That means they have to get rid of Mariana ...
"Pasión prohibida" sounds interesting, "La patrona" not so much. I think I've had a bellyful of narconovelas for now.
As usual, Hombre, your recap is excellent. I was struck by a few things in this episode:
On the one hand, there is Pabón's unwillingness to fire from the helicopter since it would mean the (probable) sacrifice of a single (not very) innocent man; and on the other hand, Candonga's dismissal of the slaughter of over 200 innocents as "gajes del oficio". An occupational hazard. The cost of doing business. What a graphic demonstration of how hard it is for someone with moral scruples to fight someone who has none.
About the "virgins" -- the ex- and soon to be ex-.
These girls look well-fed, well-groomed, not exactly living in grinding poverty. They seem to have done the math and concluded that they'd be better off "selling it" than giving it away. They are part of the army of ordinary, amoral Colombians that the cartels tapped into.
It is painful to look too closely at Pablo's foot soldiers -- including his girls and women -- who are only too willing to do his bidding as long as the price is right. The moronic "suizo" who blew up the plane would have been happy to kill anyone for the cause, though he didn't have himself in mind. The only real victim I can recall so far was the poor drunk who was recruited to drive the exploding bus and "turn on the radio."
Thanks for the great recap, Novelera. Finally, capitulos culminantes. I like this novela but I'm ready for it to wrap up.
All this talk about Ringo's upbringing - you don't have to reveal the previews to guess that something is going to happen with this.
thanks so much Hombre !!!
I would be totally missing a lot of this story without your recaps,
so here is a little history of Pablo,
from,
The Accountant's Story
as told by Roberto Escobar
"This is the story of my family as I know it to be: More than one and a half centuries ago a woman named Ofelia Gavíria came from Vasco, Spain, to Colombia. She traveled legions of soldiers through the Gulf of Urabá, men intent on taking control of our beautiful lands and precious metals. Ofelia Gavíria was a wealthy woman, a landowner with many Indian slaves, who were well treated. She lived in the town of Murri but often visited nearby towns. But to do so she had to cross several rivers.
Is was a time of danger, and a group of Indians from the forests plotted her death. When she reached a certain bridge she was to be captured and pushed into the river, allowing those Indians to regain control of their native lands. But one of her loyal slaves warned her of this attack. This was a brave woman, and instead of avoiding these attackers, she went to them with sacks of gold. Eventually they came to work for her and adopted the surname Gavíria.
Several years later it was these Indians who found an infant in the forest who had been abandoned by his mother. They brought this child to Ofelia, who adopted him and raised him as her own blood. His name was Braulio Gavíria, who grew to be a handsome man and one day would marry a blue-eyed beauty named Ana Rosa Cobaleda Barreneche, herself from Spain. They had five children, and the last of them was Roberto Gavíria, who was to grow and become the grandfather of myself and my brother, Pablo Escobar, who was to become the most famous criminal in the world."
ROBERTO ESCOBAR, 2008
I kind of like Mariachi, but I think it's the actor (Juan Carlos Arango) who is doing such a great job, anyway I did a little background search on the real guy (Gonzalo Rodríguez Gacha), to get a better feel for him,
from,
The Accountant's Story
as told by Roberto Escobar
("Due to the sensitive nature of the material disclosed in this book, some names and identifying characteristics have been changed")
"José Rodríguez Gacha was the son of a poor pig farmer from the city of Pacho who also made more than a billion dollars in this cocaine business. Like Pablo, he was named one of the richest men in the world. While the Ochoas were educated people, Gacha had dropped out of grade school. Because he loved everything with Mexico—he owned the Bogotá soccer club the Millionarios and had a mariachi band to perform for the fans—and eventually established the routes through Mexico, he became known as El Mexicano, the Mexican. He made that name infamous. The Mexican was ruthless. Many of the terrible killings that Pablo has been blamed for were done by Gacha. But also like Pablo, he gave away much of his money to the poor people for health and education, to pay for farm equipment and seed to survive, and so the people of his region loved him."
"The Mexican came up in the emerald business. Most people don't know that in Colombia there has always been more violence for the control of emeralds than there was for drugs. But killing in that business is very casual. Gacha became known in that business for having no fear of anyone and killing people to succeed. At one time he worked in a bar in Medellín that some members of Pablo's organization liked to go to. Even these people, very tough people, were impressed by the Mexican. He started doing small favors for them, and eventually came to run his own organization, opening new routes through Mexico to Houston and Los Angeles. It was the Mexican who first set up Tranquilandia, one of the largest and the best known of the jungle laboratories where more than two thousand people lived and worked making and packaging cocaine."
"Pablo and the Mexican, Gacha, had remained in good contact with each other, maybe because there was nobody else with the equal of their power. The government had made the two men, Escobar and Gacha, the biggest targets of its war on the drug traffickers."
"The United States had given the Colombian government more than $60 million and helped build up the army to catch them, mostly leaving the Cali cartel and other groups from Bogotá and the northern regions of the country alone."
"The story told by the police was that Gacha's seventeen-year-old son, Fredy, had been captured in a raid in September. The biggest charge against him was being the son of a man they wanted desperately. But the legal charge they made against him was for possessing illegal weapons. After two months they secretly released him, but from then on they followed him until he went to his father at a small ranch in Tolu, about an hour south of Cartagena."
First of all, thank you NovelaMaven for your very interesting introduction to this week's tales.
I agree completely about El Rostro de la Venganza. I would have given up long ago if it were more than a half hour long. I'm also hanging on to see what they'll do with the switch from Elizabeth Gutiérrez to Marlene Favela. I've heard she'll play the same character, but it would be more interesting if she were a different one.
I'm pretty sick of the repetitive nature of the conversations as well. We've heard Natalia and Alex blather on about this gathering of the students hasta cansancio.
OK, if Marcos really is the niño monstruo then get this thing over with fast.
I can't bear the scenes with Valeria Samaniego. I get it she's evil, but that obviously surgically repaired face and too much makeup for her age are hard to watch. I also dislike the mother of Ezequiel Alvarado.
And don't even mention Katerina. That kid should have had a thousand time-outs before the age of 10!
First-rate recap, Hombre! You write so well.
I was hoping they'd get the capture of Mariachi out of the way last night. But, no.
I was disappointed that second little girl decided to earn some pesos on her back after all.
I thought it was interesting the scorn Pablo Montoa had toward Escobar when he went off for a "siesta" in the middle of the Mariachi crisis. Escobar looked none too happy to be dressed down by anyone.
I'm a bit tired of waiting for the disgusting frame-up of Faryad Daguer to be revealed by Niki. Or maybe he and his friends will never be freed. That officer that Niki was questioning was SO in on it. His shifty eyes certainly showed that.
Thanks, Deb, for your posting of excerpts from Escobar's brother's book. I guess he's free? In the US I'm sure that any proceeds from such a book would go to victims' relief and not to profit the criminal.
when I posted on Mariachi earlier, I cut/pasted the real guy's name from two different sources only to see later that they were different, but according to wiki both are right, his real name is José Gonzalo Rodríguez Gacha
@novelera, I'm trying real hard not to post anything further along than we are in the story, so as to Roberto Escobar today..., but it should be easy for you to find out.
Rosa Diamante is moving right along, like a mini Corazon Valiente, with craziness and mishaps for all,
a short picture summary of Friday's episode which will give you a feel for the story is located here,
http://foro.telenovela-world.com/n4/read-t.php?f=1123&i=4491&t=4491
Novelera, I doubt that Marcos is the real killer. It's much too early for the big reveal, don't you think? What if it turns out that all the kids are innocent and the killer is one of the adults, say the odious Valeria Samaniego? The chemistry teacher could have been the intended victim and the kids just "collateral damage", killed to disguise the real crime...
I bet Alex will turn out to be hiding something too ...
Deb, thanks for the excerpts from Roberto Escobar's book. It's interesting to read his personal mythology but disturbing to think of him out in the world somewhere and, as Novelera points out, probably profiting from his years as an accomplice to a mass murderer.
NovelaMaven, "his personal mythology", so true,
you start reading this book and you start thinking Pablo was a genius,
and really had no choice but to do what he did,
but I will say that most of the facts I've seen about Pablo and the boys,
seem to have come from this book,
btw, this is Roberto Escobar's story as told to the guy who wrote the book.
my take on the real Pablo story, and I am by far not the expert, is that,
cocaine, as a leaf, or tea, was acceptable in Colombia,
and Pablo refining/concentrating and exporting his product was also acceptable,
because of his import, U.S. dollars
but then enters the U.S., which is not apart of this story,
(George Bush senior was prez)
that wants Pablo dead or alive,
you know, the war on drugs,
and there were a lot of other things going on as well, for example (according to the book)
Carlos Lehder, known to us as Marcos Hérber
(from the book)
"Carlos called cocaine "the atomic bomb" that he was going to drop on America. This was because of his politics; his father was German so Adolf Hitler became Carlos's hero."
btw, I found myself doing the Pablo walk the other day,
you know,
waddle, and slowly swing your arms, side to side,
pat your hair if you must,
it must be Hombre's wonderful summaries,
that make this story so real for me.
Thanks so much Novelera for this and all the other great recaps you have done.
Hombre: I do recall something early on about Verdugo killing his papa, but there was some confusion over who "his" referred to. Also, Ringo has referred to Jessica and Alma as "his nieces", and several times to Verdugo being "like his brother". Wouldn't surprise me if that turns into something. I like the Ringo character; writers are quite good at infusing "bad" characters with redeeming characteristics. Also, with Nicko's new doctor being from out of the country, my guess is that he is from Colombia and they will have to fly Willy et al over there for emergency tratamiento. Just a wild guess. :o)
J in Oregon
Both Miguel Valdez and El Verdugo are shot, and we see lots of slo-mo blood spatter as Miggy falls to the ground. La Niña Bonita, Gus, and Camilo run to Miggy while Ringo runs to EV. Fabiola is frozen, looking back and forth between the two of them.
The Reptile neglected to take off her Halloween costume of a couple of weeks ago. She’s got a black cape on and is holding Luci. She’s casting spells and calling on her “dark powers” to kill Miguel Valdez.
Fabiola runs up calling Miggy’s name. NB pushes her away, saying she’s EV’s wife. Miggy himself tells her to go to the father of her child.
Laura and Jessica hope for EV’s survival, while we see a flashback of Jessica with EV where he promises to travel with her – specifically to Japan.
D8D tells Sam and Willy that the operation for Nico is difficult but that the doctor is confident.
Ringo holds EV, who tells him his hour has come. He asks for Fabiola. He asks if Miguel Valdez died. Fabiola tells him no. He tells Fabiola that if she goes back to Valdez, don’t forget that he loved her with all his heart.
JM spills his big secret, not. He doesn’t get any good cases at the bufete (law firm). Some of the people there look down on him because of the Reptile’s videos. Ángela tells him that she will always be proud of him.
El Verdugo says he wants to die in the water. Fabiola tells him she hated El Verdugo just as much as she loved Miguel, but she also learned to care for Javier.
Fabiola runs after Miggy as they carry him toward the SUV. He tells her to go. NB says that what happened to Miguel is her fault and gets slapped by Fabiola for this.
Ringo screams “Noooo!” and somehow the Reptile, still in the dungeon, intuits this and does the same. Ringo raises his gun to fire at Miggy, but EV tells him it was a dual between gentlemen. He wants Ringo to let him die with his dignity. Fabiola runs after the SUV with EV inside and then slumps down saying she doesn’t want to be there when his soul departs for who knows where. Her great love has left her, perhaps forever. The only reason she has to live is Alma.
Ringo calls the Reptile and tells her she’s to take charge of Fabiola. She asks if he wants her to kill Fabiola. We don’t hear Ringo’s reply through the cell phone.
Willy tells Sam that the special doctor has given Nico a 50% chance of walking again.
Somebody in JM’s bufete tells him that his bad luck is over. He’s getting an important case, and the client specifically asked for him.
Miggy just wants to die. He says there’s nothing that can be done. Meanwhile NB goes and grabs up Dr. Velasquez at gunpoint. Miggy asks Clara and Camilo to care for Fabiola. [So why was he so cold with her at the site of the duel?]
The Reptile comes to where Fabiola is lying on the ground. We hear Ringo’s words. EV wants her alive, and you have to obey.
Jessica calls to talk to Nico, sobbing. He first tells her they’re going to operate on him. She tells him he has to live because her father died. Rosario overhears.
Miggy looks pretty bad. NB brings in the doctor, points a gun at his head and tells him to save Miggy or she’ll kill him. This is a better incentive than a Hollywood plastic surgery practice. The doctor mops up lots of blood, has Camilo and Gus hold him down, puts a rag in his teeth, and then extracts the bullet.
The Reptile, who never saw someone miserable she wasn’t inspired to kick while they’re down, tells Fabiola that death will come to take Miguel. Fabiola insists he’ll live. Miggy is delirious and asking for Fabiola, then hallucinates that she’s there. Fabiola tells the Reptile she doesn’t understand the strength of her love, which is stronger than her having a baby with EV and stronger than Miguel being with NB.
JM opens up the documents for his new case and looks stunned.
Ringo tells Jessica she has to come to say goodbye to her father. Fabiola comes in to say she’s leaving. Ringo tells her she can’t leave because she’s got to pay her respects. Then later, they’ll see. The Reptile marches in with her funeral hat already on her head.
NB tells Miggy EV died. He begs her to go for Fabiola. Now that EV is dead, she’s in danger. He then tells Camilo and Gus that they have to go for Fabiola. He says that the other capos are going to come for payback, and neither Ringo nor the Reptile will help her.
The assistant surgeon tells the main guy over Nico’s prone body that it’s very risky, and he won’t be able to do it.
Ángela tells D8D that EV has died. He can’t believe it.
Miggy tells NB that, if she cares for him, she’ll help rescue Fabiola and the baby. He even tries to get up to do it himself.
Ringo gives the eulogy over a coffin near a body of water. He sobs, saying he’s obeying him to the very last.
JM tells Ángela about his big case. It’s to defend a woman who killed a man she loved. This man loved another woman, and the killer killed his whole family. It’s a woman just like Fernanda del Castillo!
Willy comes out looking grave saying the operation is over. Of course, they don’t tell us how it went.
It appears Miggy tried to get up. They put him back in bed and he makes NB swear she’ll rescue Fabiola and the baby. NB tells him it obviously hasn’t sunk in for him yet. He’s alive, and EV is dead. Miggy is the total boss of all these lands – El Mesías.
Everyone says goodbye to EV except the Reptile. She says she’s angry at him for getting himself killed. They put the coffin in the water and Ringo sets fire to it. They’re giving him a South American Viking funeral.
We see a flashback to Jesús Matamoros, tied hand and foot looking at EV and Ringo. He says: “Here I am, Javier. What are you waiting for? Shoot!” EV says that Ringo will do it. But he can’t shoot Matamoros. EV says Ringo is useless. El Mesías tells Ringo: “Don’t worry, baby, all will be well.” EV tells him that El Mesías never has resuscitated and never will. EM tells him that he will exist. He swears he will live again. EV shoots him in the shoulder, and he falls into the water.
Behind the burning coffin, we see two guys in a fishing boat. One of them is Jesús Matamoros.
Thank you Novelera for the recap. Wow--I am emotionally wrung out from the death and burial of El V. The South American Viking burial, yes indeed! The writers did him justice and gave him a "good" death.
J in Oregon
wow, I watched every episode of this, but I was not prepared to see the first episode again, which started Monday night, late, after the news.
Great recap, Novelera, of a wacky episode. The Viking coffin funeral was truly bizarre as was the Reptile getting into brujeria. So EV is dead and now we are going to have a new villain, I guess. I don't know why everybody was so sure that Jesús Matamoros was dead. Shot in the shoulder and fall into the water - even tied up - doesn't equal certain death. Didn't someone say that there was a grave?
FF collapsing on the ground and just lying there until the Reptile came was weird, too.
Great recap como siempre, Thanks novelera
Well, I think Verdugo was too pitiful to be a villain! I hope the next villain will be a more entertaining one.
Yes, it was a weird episode, specially FF's sorrow for Verdugo's death!!!
thanks so much novelera !!!
loved the "South American Viking funeral" comment,
didn't JM have his own law firm, he must have lost it to Fernanda or maybe just lost it by never being there, but now I guess he works for someone else, I hope they don't mind him always running off to take care of "personal" business. I wonder if Fernanda has anything to do with his new case, so does he work through all of his own issues with Fernanda on this one or does he become a real novela lawyer and bungles her case, "I think she's guilty judge",
wow, I thought they would both live, I still can't believe Verdugo died, they just threw his body in the back of the SUV and drove off leaving Fabiola crumpled up lying on the ground. you would think they would have an ambulance standing by at a duel, you know like a football game.
the doctor looked so proud when he finally found the bullet in Miggy, what happened to the part where Miggy gets a drink first and then they pour the rest into the wound,
actually I had no idea how they were going to untangle everyone from this storyline, but this works pretty well,
I'm glad Miguel Varoni will be around longer than a memory.
I'm surprised the Reptile didn't wear white to the funeral, she is just not getting into this,
I suppose Fabiola could have walked out a different way with the baby than through a room of mourning people.
it's interesting to watch Miggy, through all his hatred, betrayal, hurt,,,, still has this undying love for Fabiola peeking through, this guy is just the toughest character I've ever seen, and Fabiola knows it as well.
I think Sandra Beltrán is doing a wonderful job as La Niña Bonita
I posted some pics here,
http://foro.telenovela-world.com/n4/read-t.php?f=1035&i=5135&t=5135#reply_5135
Hi, guys. I just logged on and the Live Feed thing that tracks visitors tells me that El Mundo de Telemundo had a visitor from Munich, Germany. We're big in Europe, apparently!
Deb, thanks for your very cute pictures on Telenovela World.
NovelaObserver, you're right. El Verdugo apparently skipped some of the telenovela villain classes where he learned to be bad to the bone, 24/7 gloating. The Reptile and her papí didn't miss a one.
I also saw the promos of Victorinos. I have NO interest in re-watching this. Talk about ruining a novela. They totally torched this one.
I didn't think JM had a law firm. I thought he worked for the family car business (as much as any telenovela character ever works) but also had a law degree. So I guess the Reptile seized the family business when she got everything else.
novelera, it's not the matter of being good or bad, EV was actually even worse than DD and Reptile. (The way he killed Miggy's ex, torturing them etc.) I mean what I wanted to see was a stronger conflict which I think EV couldn't provide it. He always seemed more pitiful than his victims! Anyway, sorry if my comment annoyed you. I'm a big fan of your recaps :)
NovelaObserver: Perish the thought that you annoyed me! ¡Nada de eso!
I was just riffing on your comment about how EV's villainhood lacked a certain depth. He seemed as if a few years on the couch when younger and he wouldn't have been a narco at all.
hmmm,
I was thinking that way back when, JM got upset with the del Castillos over something and he sold out his share in the partnership, (later Fernanda wandered off and Willy quit, leaving it all owned/run by Bernardo), then he was planning on moving to London with Angie and the kids, but that didn't work out, and he ended up defending Angela, and that didn't work out, and she was in prison for a year, and so I thought he started his own law practice, as everyone started going to him, and he seemed to be going to work everyday, and now he lost everything, but who knows, the details seem to dribble off into never never land, and I usually fill in the holes with my imagination.
Aurora is naked under the covers awaiting her tryst with Pablo. He comes in, tells her to turn around, face away. She does, nervously, as it looks as if 1) he doesn't want her to look at his body, and 2) he may want to take her from behind. She gulps.
Marino's car breaks down, with Génesis in it, on her way home. He looks under the hood, tells her to help him fix it. She doesn't want to get out of the car in this hot sun, but he insists, you just have to hold this little cable. She presses the cable, he gets back in the car, as Candonga comes up behind her and STRANGLES her with a cord. We see her shoes fall off, her bare feet dangling as Candonga ends her life. I think Deb warned us about this, but I was shocked nevertheless.
Mariachi and crew have lots of weapons in their hideout. Chinito thinks they should high tail it to Pablo's retreat, but Mariachi says they can defend themselves better from here. In the helicopter, Náufrago points out the hideout, there it is! The shooting starts, and again, Aguirre is not really trying to hit them, just corner them, because Pabon says we need Mariachi alive to get info out of him. Some of Mariachi's band go out the back way. Aguirre sees some guys get into a truck, but doesn't know if Mariachi is one of them. Pabon says call some ground units to come here, we'll follow the truck.
Niki tells Fernando about her interview with the innocent prisoner, but he says that'll have to wait, the government has Mariachi cornered, and they hope to catch him. Look up any info we have about him for the article.
Some ground units arrive and kill a bunch of low level people we've never seen. Back in Bogotá, Dr. Bedoya tells President Lopez they have Mariachi surrounded, capture is imminent. The President says good, because this'll return to the people's faith to us, and we won't have to negotiate.
And this is what Pablo thinks, too, no negotiation. If they capture Mariachi, they aren't being honorable. So it's back to plan A, bombs and terror. Pedro isn't so keen on this, but as usual, he's overruled.
Chili and Candonga toss Génesis's body into a river to be eaten by animals.
The helicopter is hot on the heels of the truck. Mariachi is driving, but the cops don't know this. They call down with a megaphone, stop the truck and turn yourselves in! Chinito tells his Dad he doesn't want to end up in an American jail. No way, says Mariachi, I'd rather die. We're not giving up. Let's find some high grass to hide in. He passes his trademark sombrero back to some of the men, and they jump out and start running into the bushes. NOW can I fire? Asks Aguirre. NO! Which one of those running men is the boss, Náufrago? I don't think either one. Pabon still says hold your fire. Some land units unload some cops to chase the guys running through the brush. The copter is still following the truck, not falling for the “hat trick”. But the copter's running out of fuel!! Pabon gives the truck a final warning to surrender, but they don't, and he still won't let Aguirre fire, even though he's got them right in his sights
Meanwhile, Pablo's having a big meeting, tells everyone that “dark forces” are attacking them. No, you guys here aren't in danger, but Mariachi is. And the worst thing? He was betrayed by his best friend, his trusted ally. Pablo looks menacingly at every one of his underlings while he says this.
The truck stops. Men get out. Náufrago points out, there's the boss, and that one's his son. And now the shooting REALLY starts, as the guys on the ground try to hide under tall leafy trees. But Aguirre is firing, Pabon is firing. Chinito yells at the plane, take THIS you scum! He shoots, and Náufrago is hit in the arm. But the return fire from the copter cuts him down. Federico! My son! Mariachi runs to him, then defiantly fires at the sky, and HE's hit in the chest, too! The helicopter can now land and mop up the operation.
Pablo says I hope none of YOU are sapos. To a man, they all say we'll put our hands in the fire for you, boss. He pauses, and says I know. But things are going to change now. First, we'll have to eliminate Náufrago, so he doesn't talk. The operation will have to be done perfectly. And then, we're going to make death democratic! No more just killing the poor. We're going to start killing the rich, the powerful! Right on! is the chorus of our assassins.
AS the President and Dr. Bedoya congratulate each other, the troops survey the damage. Yes, Federico and Mariachi are dead, and several of the bodyguards. The men yell long live Colombia! On the radio, it's confirmed. This'll deal a blow to the cartel, and next on the list are Pablo Escobar and Pedro Motoa. We see Pablo listening on the radio, then curtly switch it off. That Náufrago is going to PAY. We'll find him and eat his guts! And don't believe for a minute that the police killed Mariachi, I'm sure he killed himself rather than being taken prisoner. Peluche is worried. Pedro, as usual, counsels calm. It's almost Christmas, we could wait for a while. NO! Pablo says we're not waiting until January. There's no January. The time is now! We'll kill the rich, kidnap executives. Let's see how they like THAT celebration!
Terrific recap, Hombre. Yes, Candonga strangling that girl was just AWFUL. For those who didn't have the benefit of Deb's forewarning, it must have been quite a shock. I seem to remember Deb saying he had double-digit young virgins killed so they could not tell the cops where he was. You'd think the word would have gotten around. But maybe they didn't even ask them after a while, just kidnapped them.
If I remembered right, Candonga made a very tasteless remark when they put the girl's body in the water, probably the one about feeding the animals. And Chili got on him about it, I think. I was surprised to see anything bother Chili.
Drat! Just when I was hoping Niki would write a scathing article that would get the innocent guys out of prison, the pursuit of Mariachi shuts her down.
Pablo's conversations with his guys are increasingly delusional. No one seems to notice. "Dark forces", indeed. He seems to continue to believe he's a good guy put upon by evil government figures.
Wreaths are laid for Mariachi in the church where he wanted to be buried. President Delacruz gives a speech lauding the government. Pablo's sicarios meet, talk of loyalty, join hands in the middle of a circle, and pledge loyalty to the death. Pablo approaches, tears a page from his little book. It contains a list of 17 people. This time we won't kill them, we'll kidnap them. He later looks wistfully at a picture, recalling Mariachi. The SUVs move out.
Náufrago wants no police protection. He feels much safer on his own, than in any kind of police help here. He's definitely not safe in this country. Pabon wants to shake his hand, but Náufrago won't, he's no sapo, he was forced into this. But you helped the country. Náufrago doesn't see it that way.
The underlings of Mariachi are buried in a mass grave in the country. I think that sombrero of his ended up in the grave, too.
The Cali brothers meet to discuss the news. As usual, Gildardo is optimistic, but his brother isn't. Yes, they helped the government. But if the Medellín cartel falls, the government will go after Cali.
The kidnappings happen quickly. Wealthy women are abducted from their cars on the street, even in churches. Rich men are taken from their offices, their bodyguards killed. Pretty soon the radio announces that 16 people have been kidnapped. The President whines as usual, Ulloa gives excuses, Peraza isn't any more help. Dr. Bedoya enters, it's not 16, it's 17. They just kidnapped my son! We see the victims huddled together in a barn on Pablo's ranch.
Pablo and Pedro meet with right wing Miguel, tell him you never know who's gonna betray you. It could be someone who works for you, it could be head of another group. Miguel assures him he's no traitor. Of course not, says Pablo. That's why we have a new proposal for you. We want you and your group to join the Medellín cartel. Miguel is cautious. What about all those kidnappings? Oh, that was just political, to get us bargaining power. And you know, adds Pablo, Christmas time is really the best time for kidnappings, with everyone so happy and unguarded, don't you think?
We see a new character, Dr. Ivan Lopera. Dr. Bedoya visits him, wants him to be the liason between the government and the cartel, wants him to get back his son.
Gonzalo gives a speech to people outside the church in Mariachi's home town. Mariachi's dead, but no one is to touch his possessions, his horses, his mines, etc. They have new owners now, and if anyone tries to take over any of them, you'll have to answer to US. These are the new rules.
Right wing Miguel and brother Lucio disagree as usual about Pablo. Lucio thinks Pablo is crazy, and doesn't help their cause at all. But Miguel is the leader, and overrules him, assuring him that with Escobar's power and money, they'll be able to teach their enemies, the leftists, a real lesson!
I want to thank you again for the wonderful recaps. But I think I'm missing something. Didn't or wasn't Reptile allegedly supposed to do something with the guns so that EV can have the advantage? Did that happen? If not, what did she attempt to do? I just read that she was dressed like a witch in a lab somewhere? Was that it? that she was doing black magic to give him the edge?
Nellie, fortunately for us, the Reptile's plans often go awry. Yes, she wanted to cheat on the duel, but couldn't get to the "judge" or the weapons on time. And yes, she's been trying to do black magic, cursing Miggy and hoping EV would live, but that didn't work either. I guess she'll just have to use her other "charms".
El Mesías (EM since JM has already been used), sitting in the boat watching the Viking funeral, flashes back to getting shot by EV and falling into the water. He sinks right to the bottom and is rescued by a girl who, we find out later, is named Lady.
Miggy tells NB that he doesn’t want to pretend to be EM or be a narco. Since EV is dead, there is nothing for him in Colombia except maybe getting FF out of EV’s place. In response to NB’s question, Miggy says that he won’t get back with FF again. She chose EV so it’s over between them.
The Reptile tells FF that EV changed her life and that she is his heir. She says that from now on she will live “por y para la memoria” of EV.
Apparently only one person at a time can talk to a doctor on this show. That person has to tell everyone else. Willy has talked to the doctor and tells Sam that Nic’s operation went well in that he survived. It’s still too early to know if he will walk again (like there’s any doubt).
JM tells Angie that he doesn’t believe that it’s a coincidence that the woman with exactly the same crimes as the Reptile asked for him to defend her. He wonders if the Reptile could be behind the request.
EM says that today starts a new history for him.
Nic tells Sam and Willy that he still can’t move his legs. Willy tells him that it will take time.
We see some guys trying to repossess the crummy furniture at Lady's house because she has defaulted on a loan. In barges EM and his guys. He tells the head guy not to come back. He will pay the debt twice over. Lady is glad to see him.
The doctor comes in to do a post-surgical check on Nic.
Miggy has a fever. He calls for FF all the time and sometimes sees her in his delirium.
EM tells Lady that the time has come to show that EM is more alive than ever. He’s not looking for vengeance – he’s looking for justice.
Surprise, surprise! Nic can feel a stimulus in his legs and can move his toes.
In a moment of lucidity, Miggy asks Gus and Camilo to call his sisters. Gus calls Angie but tells her that Miggy is ok and will return to LA soon. NB tells her guys to bring the doctor again, Miggy’s fever won’t go down.
There seems to be some kind of parallel between EM and Miggy. EM also had a terrible fever after he was shot by EV. EV also knows that someone is impersonating him.
The doctor comes to see Miggy and tells NB (when neither Gus or Camilo is present) that FF’s baby is Miggy’s, not EV’s.
FF tries to leave again but Ringo stops her.
Laura wants to leave EV’s house with Jessica. FF asks Laura to help her escape with the baby.
Lady’s mother, Doña Piedad, reads the future in the cards. She tells EM that there will be a duel between him and the false EM (Miggy). No one will die but there will be lots of blood. If EM goes after the false EM, it will change his destiny.
JM, the incredibly stupid nincompoop, is jealous that Gus called Angie.
Miggy is temporarily lucid. NB does not tell him what she learned from the doctor about Alma’s paternity. She shows him a video of FF’s eulogy of EV at the funeral.
EM shows up at EV’s house. He asks the guards to tell Ringo that a friend of “baby” has come.
Nic asks Sam to bring Jéssica back to LA. She doesn’t want to leave him but agrees to do it without telling Willy.
Gus calls Angie again and this time he tells her that his first call was a lie. Miggy is dying.
Ringo tells the Reptile that he doesn’t know what to do with EV gone. The Reptile tells him that this is his moment.
Ringo is happy to see EM again and doesn’t seem terribly surprised to find out that he is alive. It turns out that “baby” was Ringo’s nickname when he was a child and we see a flashback of Ringo, EM and EV all playing together as children.
Gus blames NB for what happened to Miggy. Miggy becomes unresponsive and I’m sure we’re supposed to think that he’s dead but we know that he isn’t.
Angie tells Sam that Miggy is dying. Both Willy and JM say exactly the same thing to their women: don’t even thing about going to Colombia.
EM ask Ringo about NB. Ringo gives EV’s house, money and men to EM. Then EM meets FF.
thanks Jean !!!
this looks simple enough, since Jesus has the keys to Verdugo's kingdom, he just sends all of the out-of-towners home, reclaims his girl, and goes about his business... no?
Great recap, Jean! I loved your last sentence, pretty much all initials, EM, NB, EV, FF! To me, since EV and EM hated each other, it makes NO sense that EM is just given all of EV's money, etc. And since NB and EM loved each other so much, why can't they get back together, and just leave everyone else in peace? And why does Ringo CARE where FF goes? And why am I even asking these ridiculous questions?
After JM's latest jealous fit, I was yelling at Angela, you SHOULD go back to Gustavo!
thanks so much Hombre !!!
for Monday's and Tuesday's recaps,
sorry about the virgin spoiler, after the volleyball player I thought they had moved on,
but where ever I got that, I thought it also mentioned a media celebrity, Regina to us, so I checked her out, interesting, and she may be mentioned again in our show, her real name is Virginia Vallejo.

"Distinguished more for her love life than for her professional qualifications, Virginia was a true diva. Courted by men of power and money, in 1982 she fell deeply in love with another singular celebrity: drug trafficker Pablo Escobar, head of the Medellín cartel. For more than five years, she was his lover.
"In the heat of their intimacy, the television host became deeply familiar with her beloved capo's life and works – and also those of many of his friends, including important politicians."
"After Pablo Escobar's death, Vallejo kept quiet for 20 years. Finally, in 2007, she published Amando a Pablo ("Loving Pablo")..."
.................................
as to when our story will end, it looks like the show finished in Colombia Monday night at chapter 113, last night for us was chapter 92, (but, I'm not sure our chapter numbers are the same as theirs), so... if their chapter 93 is the same as ours, according to their title, there should be a new character tonight, Pizano (Tiberio Cruz).
Great recap, Jean. And we're thinking a lot of the same things.
I am so, so tired of the stereotypical jealous Latin male. It makes no sense that they keep having JM react that way when Ángela is clearly in his bed and in his life.
Icy posted some "behind the scenes" pictures of the actors on Telenovela World, and I was wondering who the dark haired woman was in one of the photos. She turns out to be Lady. I can't tell if she and EM have a relationship beyond gratitude and friendship.
I sure hope JM's mystery client is not another set-up by the Reptile. Another thing I'm tired of is her omnipotent ability to pull strings from another country. It would be more interesting if the mystery woman just heard about JM's history with the Reptile and wanted him for her lawyer.
Sigh. Another TN cliché. The doctor finally blabs about Alma's father, but only the jealous other woman hears it. They even had Gus walk in one second later.
And I suppose Sam is going back to Colombia to be repeatedly threatened with rape by Ringo.
As usual Miguel Varoni is excellent in his role as EM. Of course, the whole thing could easily be solved by a recovered to health Miggy telling him: "Hey, bud, the drug empire is all yours. I'm going back to LA!" As if.
Thanks, Hombre, for the recap. Love the details.
Deb, the TV personality's book had an interesting title: Amando a Pablo, Odiando a Escobar.
Speaking of books, last night's episode appears to be where the Gabriel García Márquez book "News of a Kidnapping" begins. I read the first couple of chapters and haven't made time to finish it. That book is told from the point of view of the persons who were kidnapped.
There's something about Náufrago that I like. I know he's a criminal, but still. And I think he's wise. With all the corruption in the police and army, I wouldn't trust them to keep me safe either.
Corazon Valiente
Okay even though I like to think the writers are smart, but I was thinking that Ringo and EM planed EV death. But that would be too easy...wouldn't it?
A priest and Niki separately read a press release from the Extraditables, saying we have 17 people in our control, and we demand that the government negotiate. Ulloa and Peraza don't want to stop the pursuit of the cartel. But Bedoya does, and says he has a mediator, Ivan Lopera, who can talk to the cartel. Peraza says forget it.
Náufrago sneaks into his Mom's house, finds her dead in a pool of blood.
Topo gives sandwiches to the hostages, joking it's not the kind of food you're used to. Chili doesn't like the joking, lets the hostages know things are serious.
Lopera is picked up by Marino, blindfolded and brought to Pablo, who asks, What do you want? Lopera responds of course we want Carlos Bedoya and the other citizens released. Well, says Pablo, so do we. But we have two conditions. First, extradition is ended. Second, the government stops pursuing us. These two conditions are non-negotiable. Otherwise, we'll kill them all. In front of Dr. Bedoya.
Lopera tells the government. Bedoya immediately wants to agree to the demands. President Delacruz isn't sure, what will the people say? They then meet with Ulloa and Peraza. Peraza is dead set against negotiation. They kill people, terrorize us, and now you're going to give them what they want? That's a big mistake. But the President overrules him, we'll negotiate.
Pablo thinks they'll give in. He tells Pedro and Gonzalo they need a lawyer to negotiate on their side. Maybe they'll even agree to go to jail, if it's a jail to their liking, here in Colombia.
Bedoya talks to the Ex-president, can you negotiate for us? Okay, but not in my name, in the name of a commission we'll form, called the Notables.
Marino tells Pablo that Náufrago has disappeared. But he's an orphan now. Good job, says Pablo. And keep trying to find that bum. But we have another problem. Do you know anyone in the Model Prison who wants to earn some money? Sure, says Marino, lots of guys.
Cut to the model prison, where Galán killer Miguel (I'll just call him GK) and Baldy are lamenting that they're running out of money. Their boss (Mariachi) is 6 feet under, and now they're sure someone is going to knock them off to quiet them. GK says I've got a plan to get us out of here by the new year. (Of course if Pablo asks about people there who wanted to earn money, it was probably to silence these two).
Dr. Pataroyo (the lawyer hired by the cartel) meets Dr. Lopera. Dr. Lopera says the government may grant your demands, but needs a show of good faith, such as releasing half the hostages, and giving up their drugs and money. Dr. Pataroyo says he'll relay this to the cartel.
The Ex-President gives a speech. Colombians have the right to live in peace. So we've formed a commission called the Notables, who will negotiate with the cartel. The killing will stop, and we'll get the hostages back.
Chili asks one of the female hostages to get up. She doesn't want to go.
Pablo meets with right wing Miguel. Miguel respects what Pablo's doing. Pablo says right, the government will lay off us, and we can enjoy our lives. Miguel doesn't want this. He's happy for Pablo, but he wants to continue the armed struggle of his men. Peace is the LAST thing he wants.
No show tomorrow for Thanksgiving. Hope you all have a happy and healthy one!
FF meets EM.
NB encourages Miggy to live. She begs him not to abandon her. If he won’t do it for her, he should do it for FF and his daughter.
FF tells EM that she won’t have the opportunity to get to know him better. She and her daughter are leaving.
Miggy starts to wake up.
EM tells FF that she can’t leave. Her guy is with his woman and he needs to keep her.
Sam begs Willy to let her go to Colombia but he is adamant. After Sam leaves, Nic tells Willy that he’s with Sam on this one. He wants Sam to go to Colombia and bring Jéssica back.
Angie tells JM that she wants to go to Colombia. Her brother means everything to her. JM asks nastily if she is more interested in seeing Gus that helping Miggy. What a jerk!
Miggy wants to try and get FF out of EV’s house. NB tells him that the place is too well guarded. (Do they actually know where it is?) She also tells Miggy that there is a rumor that FF is taking over for EV and is very happy about that.
EM carries FF back to her room. He tells her that she can’t leave but he doesn’t abuse women.
We see a flashback to EV’s father telling EV and EM that selling drugs is the way to get out of poverty. Ringo (Baby) was not supposed to be involved in the business. He was supposed to get an education but after his father died, EV let Ringo into the business. Then NB came between EV and EM.
NB has kidnapped the doctor again this time to ask him how many people know that FF’s baby is Miggy’s. The doctor tells her that EV, Rosario and Ringo know (or knew in the case of EV).
Willy tells Nic that Sam will go to Colombia over his dead body.
Sam, of course, is packing to go to Colombia. Only Nora knows about this.
Of course, Angie is doing the same thing.
Miggy tells Gus and Camilo that when he is better, he will go after FF. Gus asks, “I thought you hate FF?” Miggy replies that he does hate FF but he also loves her with the same intensity.
Ringo tells EV’s henchman that EM is the new boss. EM is introduced to Laura and Jéssica. Laura tells him that they are leaving.
The doctor tells NB that now that EV is dead, there is no reason to hide the the fact the Miggy is Alma’s father. NB replies that they are going to keep it a secret and gives him some money to assuage his conscience.
EM has been given the keys to EV’s big SUVs. He goes to collect Lady and Doña Piedad.
Miggy asks Camilo to go to the doctor’s place and find any paperwork on FF’s pregnancy. He thinks that the doctor is hiding something.
EM goes to the loan shark who was trying to repossess Lady’s furniture. He whips out an automatic weapon and shoots up the place but doesn’t hurt anyone. With the loan shark properly cowed, he demands the records for all the loans he has for poor folks like Lady.
The Reptile finally finds about the return of EM. She is surprised that Ringo just handed over EV’s business. Ringo basically tells her to suck it up.
Miggy dreams that FF has come to him.
EM is not turning out to be much of a villain, more like Robin Hood. He makes the loan shark forgive all the loans he has made and earns the eternal gratitude of a guy forced to work for the loan shark.
Sam and Angie both put on dark wigs to disguise themselves but they find each other at the airport.
Gus and Camilo break into the doctor’s house and find a file with FF’s name on it.
Génesis gives JM a note from Angie saying that she’s gone to Colombia. Willy comes in with a note from Sam.
Miggy tells Clara that FF has a noble heart. She might have been swept away by EV’s money and power but he can’t believe that she would become a narcotrafficante.
EM brings Lady and Doña Piedad (DP) to EV’s house and introduces her to FF. DP asks about the baby. When EM says that the baby is EV’s daughter, DP asks if she is sure. FF asks why she says that. DP replies that she can see things others can’t. She sees that the baby has a good spirit and soul. [EV’s baby couldn’t have that?] When FF tells her that the baby is named Alma, DP congratulates FF for her Alma the baby and for Alma’s soul that she can’t see.
Willy calls Sam and tells her that Angie has gone to Colombia and he is happy that she would never do anything like that. Angie grabs the phone and tells Willy that Sam is with her waiting to board the plane. Willy is furious. He says that he will never forgive Sam for this.
EV comes to the Reptile’s bedroom and introduces himself sort of. He says that she is sexy, attractive hot and... bad. The Reptile says that he must like bad women. EM says not anymore. EM says that when a woman is bad, she is very bad but a man always retains a little pity (piedad). The Reptile asks him to have pity on her and takes off her robe. It looks like EM will the next in the long line of men who cannot resist the Reptile’s surgically enhanced charms but no. He says that he will take pity on her and covers her up so she doesn’t get cold and leaves.
Miggy looks at the file that Camilo and Gus brings him and figures out from the dates that he must be the father of FF’s baby!
thanks Hombre, for yet another wonderful summary!
I really don't know how you keep track of all of these people and their names,
Chile is very believable, softly talking with that melodic accent, intense.
what exactly is Bedoya's job, the old guy that is always hanging around the president, did he take the place of the guy that was assassinated, was it minister of justice, on the one hand he seems like a bungling old guy, and on the other he seems to be the president's right hand man.
interesting, the doctor, doctor thingy, maybe a reminder of the class system, of which Pablo never cracked.

ok, on when this will finish if anyone is interested, it seems we are not running chapter for chapter with the Colombian showing, (our 93 last night looks like their 86, "Escobar envía un mensaje al Gobierno", with 113 as the end) so a best guess is 27+ chapters left, which should take us through the holidays and into January.
thanks so much Jean !!!
I guess with narcos you don't have the nasty who inherits what legal thingy to contend with,
It seems like almost every scene with Fernanda she is in her office (her bed), unless there is some good dungeon action, and she sure got bypassed by the whole power change, and with the bad guys all doing good things, she must find this all very depressing, not to mention the new boss's snub, I wonder how long she can last without seeing some real torment, where is JM when she needs him.
So the Messiah doesn't know that La Niña Bonita got back all that he lost and killed Verdugo as well, all with Miggy's help, and Ivonne doesn't know that Jesus is back and running Verdugo's empire, hmm,
I thought it was curtains for the only doctor, but IV (is that what she said Jesus called her) only handed him a wad of bills. (it's kind of different watching these narcos and watching Pablo at the same time)
the girls looked cute in their new hairdos, they must have found an Ana Layevska wig shop, thought she might be sitting there as well, but won't they get there just in time to see Laura and Jessica flying back, so the men get to stay home and take care of the kids, and maybe clean the house.
that's great that Miggy now knows the truth about Alma, these two big guys need to meet in a dark alley with loaded guns all around, and have a woman exchange.
Great recap, Jean! For once, someone was able to resist Fernanda's "charms". EM has pity for her. Not me, I want her to get some actual punishment. If somehow all the people who revere her as Victoria would scorn her, that would be s start. If she's really the client of JM, that wouldn't make sense, since you can't be tried twice for the same thing, but we'll see what that's all about.
I disagree with Sam's secretly defying Willy to go to Colombia to save Jessica. It's also not right for Willy to order her NOT to go. But the two of them need to work things out TOGETHER, and not sneak around behind each others' backs, no matter how live and death the question is.
I'm glad Miggy knows (we think) that Alma is his, although maybe there's still a small chance they could say the doctor's records we're changed. But I don't forsee him immediately getting back with Fabiola. He still thinks she chose El Verdugo. And he might now think she likes El Macias, although we haven't seen that yet. But didn't Doña Piedad predict ANOTHER duel, maybe between Miggy and EM? I could have dreamed that part.
I hope Ringo does give up his drug life, get educated, and stop wearing short sleeves and a vest (and maybe cut off that pony tail).
BTW, I liked how at EV's funeral, each character had a funeral outfit fitting their personality, from FF with a super short skirt, to Laura with a one shoulder dress (don't see those too much at funerals). Let's not even talk about the Reptile's outfit!
Yes, Hombre, Doña Piedad did forsee another duel between EM and Miggy with lots of blood but no deaths.
I agree that Miggy still thinks that FF was "swept away" by EM. He might try and steal the baby.
But my big question is that so far, EM seems to be an even more wimpy villain/narco than EV was: helping poor people; advocating education; not abusing women; not falling for the Reptile. I even thought that the flashback showing that EV and EM only got into the narco business to escape poverty could indicate that now wealthy, EM is not going to continue in that business. If he's not in the villain finals, we only have D8D and the Reptile.
Loved your recap, Jean! I got to watch the episode on my son's fancy HD television, and could see every wrinkle in Miguel Varoni's forehead! Unfortunately, the clarity of the images now has me thinking of a Christmas present for me!
It's supposed to be essential to the plot that Angie and Sam go to Colombia for some Wonder Woman antics, but I didn't like Nic urging her to go. It's pretty selfish of him. The daughter of EV, Jessica, is probably safe, but his mother could be killed by the narcos.
What EM got from the evil loan shark was the escrituras (deeds) to their properties. I suppose they had to give them to him as collateral for the loans they needed to survive. It is interesting that EM is not such a bad guy after all. I'm OK with it. I was thrilled he resisted the Reptile's seduction attempts.
I was relieved they got over the false impression for Miggy that FF had EV's child. That's one of the things I like about this novela. Lies get exposed fairly quickly.
Yep, JM behaves like a complete ass about half the time.
I never thought that the person JM was supposed to defend would be the Reptile herself. That could be the way they'd play it. And she could be tried for new crimes committed after she escaped: kidnapping and drugging JM for example. But I lean toward there being an actual other woman like the Reptile who wants him to defend her for the same reason rapists want female lawyers. If a person already victimized or capabile of being victimized defends the person, then they must either be innocent or have redeeming qualities. We'll see.
It sure looked like EM might be interested in FF. I hope they don't go there. He said he didn't abuse woman, but I suppose he could pursue her the same way EV did. That would be too repetitious.
