Hi Marta! I have been watching this TN but haven't been commenting much. Nikki is hard to understand--she's a fast talker and uses a lot of slang. I'm dying to know what she said in her very last line last night that got such a reaction from Vicki. Something about bodyguards, I think? I know you will crack the code!

It was a fun episode. I really was sympathetic to Cristina's jealous outburst when JA and Vikki returned home. They look like they've got a private little club of 2 members, with their own private jokes and such. I think it is the familiarity of their relationship, where a normal bodyguard would be more distant, detached.

I hope Polita is not developing a serious crush on Guzmancito. I don't want her to get hurt. She was so cute at the karaoke place and sings well.

So glad Vickie and Angel making out was Nelson's imagination, and not Cris's nightmare again. Nelson deserves the torment, but Cris doesn't.

When Nikki asked Vickie about falling for a bodyguard, I think Nikki was on the issue of class difference or the employer-employee propriety of she and Guzman. But Vickie made the leap to herself and Angel. As a daughter, I wouldn't expect my mom to say "but I'm married" when I ask her for romantic advice about myself.

Loved Polita sashaying out with Guzman and giving Nabila the stinkeye.

 

Niecie, i agree that Nikki was not thinking precisely of Vicky/Angel but of herself and Guzmancito. But Vicky's answer sure will be a 'whoa there!' moment for her, just like the question was one for Vicky.
 

that's kind of funny, both Big Angel and Guzmancito are magnets, especially at the Balbanera household.
Big Angel has after him his wife Cristina, Victoria and Tomasina (well, she's also got something on Felipe and the gambling thug guy).
Guzmancito has Nikki, Lilli and Polita...
will these men ever get to leave the castle for good if they want to?

Manho Nell-son is such a putz. He can't have a good time, so NOONE is gonna have a good time. Dances with Sunglasses sure knows how to play him. Can't wait to see what Kendho and Odette have come up with. And he has a nerve, being jealous cause I don't think he really loves Vikki like she thinks he does.

Yay! Finally Nikki has figured out what Nabila did to Guzmi, drugging him to sleep with her. Hope she kicks Nabila to the curb.

Loved Guzmi and Polita having such a good time at the karoake club. Loved Polita singing, she is very good. I too don't want to see her heart broken. I hope they stay good friends.

Anibal sure is a playa. He tells the women in his life only what he wants them to do/know. He has Pau-Whiner where he wants her, also Cris. I think the only one he hasn't bamboozled is Vikki. Can't wait for Candelaria to show up.

Getting tired of Cris and her jealous rages. I am surprised the Angel puts up with them, but then again he really is in love with her. She just can't see this thru her jealousy.

I agree about that question Nikki asked her Mama would she fall in love with her bodyguard was not directed at Vikki at all, but a hypothetical about herself and Guzmi, or maybe if Vikki were single would she do that? No wonder Ms Vikki answers she is married.

It's too funny how the Angel always gets JM's name wrong. Tonight it was Juan Mario, lol.

I agree to with you Doris, that the Angel and Ms Vikki have a sort of intimacy that noone gets. But on the other hand, if the Angel and Ms Vikki were fooling around, if I had been Cris, I would have thought Ms Vikki didn't sneak up to her room and change from that torn dress, they just walked right on in, in front of everyone, to me that is not the actions of someone fooling around. IMOHO.

Did Nikki learn that Nabila drugged Guzman or did she just learn that he locked them in the bathroom? I want him vindicated for that!

I love that Guzmancito is so supportive of Polita and I LOVED that kitchen scene where he told beyotch Nabila that "It" has a name and it's Polita as he walked out with Polita on his arm. The downside is that it appears that Polita is head over heels (who wouldn't be?!) and none of us want to see her heart broken. :(

A question for the group--this has always stumped me: Who was the "daughter" that wrote to Anibal at the beginning of this TN that Paula and the double agent secretary destroyed the letter for? Was it the artist daughter whose mad at Anibal? It wasn't Christina so is there ANOTHER daugheter?

Vicky and JA really are a hoot together. They would have a fine time hanging out and having fun, without any hanky panky.

I knew it would happen, but I'm upset that JA and Cris didn't get to have their evening together due to Nelson and Salsero. It was going to be a hot night too. Did you see that rump slap JA gave Cris in the kitchen?

Katy- The letter that was sent to Anibal was from his mistress from over 30 years ago, Candelaria, the mother of Cris. In the letter, she told him about Cris.

There is another legit daughter, Adriana, who just returned from Europe but has only told her godfather (Anibal's best friend). We have learned that Anibal sent her off to Europe by force when she was 15. We also learned that she got pregnant out of wedlock and Anibal arranged for it to look like the baby had died. Adriana just learned from her godfather that the baby girl did not die, and Anibal's role. But godfather doesn't know what happened to the baby. Now Adriana is searching for her baby (we are guessing the child is now a young woman of around 20).
 

Vivi - Agree it's a shame JA and Cris didn't get the evening together due to Salsero. Their last noche de amor was hotter than hot.
 

I had to laugh at the slap that the Angel gave to Cris on the rump. I wonder if that was scripted or another unscripted moment. lol.

Gringo, Anibal only has three daughters, Vikki, Adriana and Cris. He doesn't know Cris is his daughter yet. His Amante Candelaria never told him she was pregnant with Cris when she left him.

Adriana has a daughter, which would be Anibal's granddaughter, he gave away when she was a baby. Noone knows where that baby is. Adriana is searching for her, as Vivi said Adriana's daughter would be about twenty.

Zambrano is sort of like back up. When Arriaga left the first time, Zambrano was hired to guard her, but after the Angel came back, Zambrano was kept on.

Thanks for responding to my inquiry about Nell-Son and his "watery piggy eyes" wherein I wondered if that comment was crossing the line and invading his personal space. I guess I was thinking that because several episodes earlier, someone had commented that the actor's eyes look weird, and he looks as if he
might have had surgery in or around the eyes. That remark coupled with the later comments of "watery piggy" made me wonder if a line had been crossed. As I said in my inquiry, I do not care for his looks or for his character, but I was feeling a litle sorry for the actor if in fact he has a problem in real life with his eyes.

From the responses, I am interpreting that several of you think that the actor is working the eyes of his character to appear antagonistic,arrogant or deceitful?

Still need some help with this. Many thanks and also for all the detailed, funny recaps.

Clara Fying- welcome and glad you have a name now. I don't know if the actor is using his eyes to project being arrogant or not. As a recapper for this TN myself, I look at his body language, and to me the Charactor of Nell-son projects a macho attitude and Nell-son is so unlikeable, not just for his physical state, but his attitude. Nell-son is a two timing horrible husband and can't stand the fact, his wife is the real power at work and at home. This is why we snark on him alot. :)

This same actor in the recent tn Cuando Me Enamoro played a character that started off arrogant and unlikeable-- and his eyes and appearance got a lot of snark, and then ended up changing his ways, joining the priesthood, and became a great counselor and advisor to others. He went from detestable to likeable, and the way we saw him (and his eyes) totally changed. His eyes went from being squinty and shifty, to being soulful and kind.
 

Reading all these summaries and comments has help me so much especially with my spanish. :) I love it! :D

but one thing i don't understand with Ken-Drat and Salsero. Why are they doing all of this to Victoria and Nell-son? For money or revenge? And how does the WOHW play into this? Thanks for all the help and laughs. :D

Veronica- This tn has many good qualities. Plot and real motivation for the villains are not among those qualities. As far as we can tell, money is the only motivation for Kendra and Salsero, and competition and revenge is Odette's motivation.

There are many questions we could ask, like:
- Salsero must know that Vicky is the one with the money, not Nelson, so why is he supporting Kendra in this plan to get Vicky and Nelson divorced so that she can marry Nelson?
- Why does Odette think that MetaImagen will suffer financially if Nelson and Vicky get divorced? What does their marriage have to do with a biz that mainly belongs to Vicky's family?
 

Vivi in DC, thank you so much for explaining how our feelings for a character can affect how we "see" their physical characteristics. It's so true. Someone can seem plain and ordinary at first glance, but after we get to know them, they are beautiful to us. On the flip side, someone can seem attractive at first, but after discovering that they are complete jerkwad, their looks become repulsive. It happens in real life, and it happens in novelas! LOL

Poor Guzmancito--he is just a tantalizing piece of man candy and all the ladies are after him. At least poor Big Angel (also a tantalizing morsel of man-candy for the more mature ladies) is somewhat oblivious to it. But poor Guzmancito is only too aware. The poor guy has been drugged because of it! How much worse can it get for him?
 

Thanks for this sparkling very energetic recap. I'm still catching my breath. It's taken me a while to catch up but I've watched each episode and have caught up with the recaps and comments.

With each episode I become more and more impressed with Nikki. She and Guzmancito have surprised me with their totally unexpected (for me anyway) downright sizzling chemistry. I only wish that she had chosen to treat food with the same sensuousness with which she kisses. It almost embarrasses me to watch her gorge on those beautiful chocolates like that.

I became a fan of saucy, impudent, self-absorbed fresas during Gancho with the unforgettable Ximena (the best ever fresa). I have to admit that Nikki nails it very well... OK?

And of course Policarpa and Jean Marie are both such treats.

It's also fun to guess at what point in each episode we are going to spot the Bailey's. I'm still waiting for someone to actually take a sip. So far we've seen it swirled in ice and dumped into coffee, but no one seems to be drinking it.

Least imaginative last night... Nelson. Flat tire was already taken... was that the best you can do? Loved Chistina remarking on the epidemic of flat tires.

Thanks for your responses with regard to my inquiry about the actor GC aka Nell-Son. By the way, I read a few weeks ago when some remarked that he came from a family of bullfighters. I didn't read anywhere here that he was a bullfighter himself, but according to Wiki he was a matador and a bullfighter, and I saw him on a talk show several years ago when he discussed this.

I understand completely what you are saying about body language that a character projects in different roles, and I saw GC in MEPS and CME. I guess what I was concerned with is the comment that
he appeared to have RECENT surgery around his eyes (after those other 2 tn's, that his eyes looked WEIRD OR STRANGE (not exact quote),and then soon after that remark, his eyes were described as "watery piggy."
My problem is I made a connection between the alleged real life,
recent surgery, the weird looking eyes,and the watery piggy eyes, and therefore I thought the comment may have crossed the line. I welcome your comments


 

Clara Fying -- Welcome and love your screen name, and a good one to have with this great bunch of recappers and commenters.

Once in awhile, we do need to be reminded of the protocols this blog started out with and you did it.

Sometimes we tend to get off the track and end up discussing things that are OT, but somehow related--like how an illness has affected the actor or his performance; the efficacy of scripts, talent of (or less-than-talented) directors, new novelas, movies, etc., so we are culpable of edging into grey areas once in awhile.

But the overall attitude we have is one of infectious enjoyment of all the goings on and portrayals in our guilty little pleasures of escape into fantasyland while all the time remembering we are here to improve our Spanish!
 

Carlos- Sipis! Ximena will forever by our Number 1 (and 2, and 3) Fresa. But have you noticed that Mau Zedong, aka Guzman, aka Sebastian Rulli, has gotten better at doing comedy alongside fresas? I think his timing has improved since Gancho, although he still can't keep a straight face. What do you think?
 

Vivi, I had almost forgotten that Guzmancito was our beloved Mao. Sipis, he absolutely has grown up as a comedian. While I loved everything about Gancho I always thought that the two main characters were the weakest link... nopis, on second thought, Mao's insipid friend, Tano was.

He really does seem much more comfortable and I'm really believing Guzman and Nikki. I'm especially looking forward to him taking her for a great hamburguesa or some cochinita pibil.

Thanks for understanding what I am trying to say. On the whole GC's looks do not appeal to me, but as Aribeth remarked, a while back, he was considered "hot." There are some pictures of him on Wiki, and there is one of him in a dark blue blazer and blue shirt in which he looks quite handsome and debonair with a lovely smile.

And if we are to suspend our disbelief, (i.e. wear a beanie) he married Vicky 20 years or so ago and would have been very cute,
but of course not as cute as the Big Angel.

I am definitely learning more Spanish by watching these tn's, and my friends say that I am improving in my conversations.

Thank you, Marta, for the nicknames for our looney cast of characters. This novela has a comedic tone which is a nice way to spend an hour before the fast paced and head spinning Amor Bravio. And of course for me..Big Angel and Guzmancito, too. Sorry for not listing you in yesterday's list of recappers to thank. My excuse.. too much holiday grog or just brain fog as usual. But as for Salsero helping Kendra in marrying Nelson, I think maybe considering Nelson and Victoria are married, there is that whole "what is mine is yours" thing here. Unless a pre-nup was signed before marriage, getting a divorce from Victoria would then give Nelson mucho dinero and I guess that is why Kendra wants to marry this Nell-son.
Why? I don't know considering Nell-son has been cheating on Victoria throughout their ENTIRE marriage, right? correct if I am wrong here..
Getting money must be worth more to Kendra then being another notch for Nell-son... and didn't some said Nell-son had a fling with Nabila? (Nikki's "easy" friend)

I agree that Salsero and Kendra's motives, if only money, are fairly shady, if not plain uncertain to get in the end... if Nelson and Vicky get divorced, chances are Anibal won't let Nelson get much at all, since he keeps reminding Nelson that HE owns pretty much everything STILL, so not much would be really in Vicky's name to have to split with Nelson. Nelson only got a certain amount (did Anibal say 20% last night?) of the stock in the company (MetaImagen), not in the whole Barbanera assets.
 

Marta, yes, upon Nell-son's marriage to Ms Vikki, Anibal gave him 20% of Meta Imagen stock. That's all he has in the bidness. He tried to get Ms Vikki to stay more at home with Nikki, but Anibal put the kibosh on that as Ms Vikki is the creative director of the company, while Nell-son likes to boink the models. lol. In other words he doesn't have the talent to do what Ms Vikki does. I think Anibal still runs the company, which is an advertising agency.
 

Veronica- yes Nelson has been cheating almost the entire marriage to Ms Vikki and yes, he had a somethin' somethin' goin on with Nabila. We heard about that in the beginning of this TN. Kendra and Salsero's plan for Nell-son is to divorce Ms Vikki, cause they think that Nell-son will soak Ms Vikki in a divorce, and then when Kendho marries Nell-son to only stay with him long enough to get a divorce and soak Nell-son for all her has. What they didn't take into consideration is Anibal. The way I read this is Anibal is the major stockholder, not Ms Vikki, and I think Anibal would hire the best lawyer to put the kibosh on Nell-son getting anything out of Ms Vikki.Not a spoiler, just my own opinion.

The class issue is huge in Mexico as anyone familiar with Mexican culture knows. If you are of the ruling class, you just don't marry someone beneath you. In the US, Arriaga and Guzman would be considered working class or lower middle class, but in Mexico, they are considered uneducated country bumpkins. "Campesinos" or "rusticas" as Nill-son and Anibal call them. Even though Arriaga's father was an anthropologist and he himself was some kind of special agent, he's considered lower class. Even though Guzman had military training, he's also considered lower class.

Vicki herself in her conversation with Nikki told her that marrying outside your class is very hard, but love makes it easier. She actually said that love makes everything possible which I personally don't agree with, but whatever.

Vicki loved Carlos, and apparently he wasn't good enough for Anibal. I'm assuming Carlos was from a "lower" class, and Anibal arranged for Vicki to marry Nill-son.

If Nikki gets fully involved with Guzmancito, there will be a price to pay with her friends. If Vicki gets fully involved with Arriaga, you can count on Anibal to blow a gasket---even though his amante, Paula, Guzman's mom, is herself from the "lower" class.

Most novelas are clearly showing the class distinctions and depicting countless situations in which people marry out of their class. There are lots of political reasons for making this artistic, public relations statement. Like all other positive aspects of novelas, this portrays Mexican culture very favorably and drives home the point that Mexico is a modern nation of the 21st century. However, life and art in Mexico are still very different overall.

That is a good point about the lawyer and I too think that may happen.
BUT!!! What if and this is a BIG what if. What if Kendra and Salsero find a way to get Nell-son to have more stocks in the company, hell even kill Anibal if he becomes too much of a problem and considering he has most of the stocks in the company. If killed would the stocks go to Victoria? And then, with Kendra and Salsero's campaign to ruin Victoria's image in front of Nell-son, this would prompt him to find a way to get those stocks from his father-in-law. Or maybe even prompt him to work with Odette! *gasp* perish the thought!

Anywho, this is just speculation! I'm guessing here and I know nothing about stocks in a company, lol. :)
