Amores Verdaderos – The Curious Case of the Nicknames
Or “The New Year's Eve Special”. :)
Since we were going a little bit overboard with the nicknames, I decided to create a post for them. If I forgot a name, please tell me and I’ll add it to the list.
José Ángel: the Angel, Big Angel, Angel with Hugs, Sensei Arriaga, Big Ed, Hulk
Victoria: Vic, Vicky, Little Brave Painter, Wifey Pooh
Francisco: Guzmáncito, Guzmi, Frankie, Gorilla, Robo-Hunk, Blondie, Güerito
Nicole: Nikki, Oookay, Bratty, Nikki Pooh, Spoiled Brat
Santino, aka “Salsero”: Dances with Sunglasses, Twinkle Toes, Agent Smith
Kendra: Barbie, Kendho, Kendrat, Slutty Set-up Model
Nelson: Casanova, Nell-son, Nill-son, Nihilson, Furminator, Fur-Chest, Testoshubby, Snappy Papi, Manho, Ugly Useless Hubby
Cristina: Chrissie, Celostina, Mother Goose, JC (Jealous Christina, not Jesus Christ)
Liliana: Disney Lili, Little Orchid Solicito
Aníbal: Anyballs, Sperm Donor, Hannibal Lecter, Aníbal Montes de Loca, Grandpa
Paula: Pau-Whiner, Main Squeeze, Pau-Loser
Beatriz: Bea
Tomasina: Handy-Sina, Enablina
Adriana: nothing so far, but I’m on the verge of calling her “Mi Hijaaa!” ("my daughteeer!")
Candelaria: nada so far
Polita: Pretty Princess Polita
Jean Marie: Juan María, José Mario (these names were given to him by Arriaga who just can’t memorize French names)
Felipe: Gambler Dad
Odette: the Wicked Witch of the West
Nabila: Nymphette, Slutty McSlutterson, Slutty Ball of Crazy Friend

Wonderful Aribeth. I'm not watching this, but occasionally I check in with the recaps because I enjoy you all. This was VERY helpful for the occasional visitor.
Aribeth - thank you for the list. I doubt I'll remember half of it, mostly because I have a hard time remembering names to begin with. Ack. So please, everyone, forgive me when I ask "who is XYZ?" ;-)
Aribeth, thanks for this marvelous picture gallery and the nicknames :) I liked your nickname for Adriania lol. Also I think we will be calling Candelaria, Candi. It is so hard to type Candelaria lol. I think Vivi came up with the Candi nickname in a post :)

Oooh, Airbeth--Pictures with words. Thank you. Went back to your first epi recap where you reminded us of LVO. Gabriel Soto aside (just because he was depicting a weakish character), I loved it, especially Harry Geithner's PoPo Leonardo as well as Papa Leonardo. I taped it religiously just to watch during a decent time-frame.
Candi will be a funny name to attach to Anna Martin who portrayed Manuel's mother in Amor Real with such dignity--as well as other women in servant positions.

Anita - I cried when Manuel's mother in Amor Real died. It was so sad! It's the only time I ever cried when watching a telenovela.
Thanks for this Aribeth. As much as I enjoy all the nicknames that you guys are bestowing on the characters in this, I think that so far my favorite nicknamer so far has been Nikki with all of the various names she bestows upon Liliana and yet never really does seem to get it quite right... OK?
