PABLO ESCOBAR, Viernes, Part 1

Maruja's husband Alberto rushes to meet with the President. The President says we think they're in Calera. But Alberto points out no helicopters have gone out, they could be anywhere by now. Alberto is sure it's Escobar. It fits with the other kidnappings. And this isn't against Maruja, it's against YOU, Mr. President.

Maruja and Berenice (thanks for the identification, NovelaMaven) are dropped off in another small room. Maruja plays tough, but Buitre tells her she's just here to send a message to the government, and she'd better not cause trouble.

Pablo is meeting with Patarollos, who wants to quit as Pablo's “lawyer”. Pablo asks him, What am I doing bad? Well, what about today's kidnappings? Pablo roars back, what makes you think I'm behind that? Fine, says Patarollos, do you have them? Pablo says you're dealing with the Extraditables, not me personally. Look, Don Pablo, it's just not working. Fine, says Pablo, goodnight. And goodbye. Patarollos exits the car. When Marino and Candonga get back in the car, he tells them definitely don't release that other women we took along with Maruja. Well, guess what, says Marino, that was Alberto Villamizar's sister! Well, how do you like that, replies Pablo, amused.

Maruja and Berenice are shoved in a trunk, and taken by the thugs to where Carmiña is. Buitre calls the other guy Lucho, so that's what I'll call him. We see Diana, very upset, apologizing to Azucena for getting her into this. Azu tries to cheer her up. We then see Fernán, who hears of the latest kidnappings on the radio. His guard is sleeping in the same room. He asks the guard, don't you have enough? The guard just follows orders. So you just do what Pablo Escobar says? The guard tells him I don't know Pablo Escobar, and remember, you're being held by the Extraditables, not Escobar. Yeah, right.

The two reporters who have a little chess set are commiserating. The one says with all his dreams of how exciting it is to be a reporter, it's not worth it. The other just shuts his eyes. Lucho has just put Maruja and Berenice in with Carmiña. He demands their jewelry. Maruja won't give her earrings. We see that Carmiña is broken, a shell of her former self, having been here a few weeks already. She's afraid to talk loudly, complains of the terrible humidity (the walls are dripping), it's agony.

We then see Alberto with his son and his father. The father's a psychiatrist, but doesn't feel like counseling people when his own family needs help. Alberto says he's going to work full time to free his wife and sister.

PABLO ESCOBAR, Part 2

Pablo dictates another of his famous letters to Peluche. He admits they have the reporters. He laments the end of the mediation with the Notables. He calls for a unilateral truce. Peluche says what? Pablo chides him, wait til I'm finished. A truce until the country elects a new national assembly to change the Constitution. Oh.

Nidia, Diana's mother, meets with a young woman named Irma, who was previously kidnapped. She's the sister of the Motoas. She agrees that being kidnapped is the worst thing that can happen to a person. Nidia is desperate, hasn't seen her daughter in two months (!). She gives Irma a letter, just try to get it to Escobar. Please.

Maruja is coughing badly in the middle of the night. She's got bronchitis. The thugs are mad she woke them up. Lucho says you should stop smoking. She says it's the horrid conditions in here. Lucho tells her to shut up for her own good. She gets defiant. Carmiña, terrified, begs her not to rock the boat, it'll make it worse for all of us. But after they calm down, Carmiña says, maybe when this is all over, we'll have lunch and have a big laugh. Ojalá.

In the morning, Poncho wakes up José and Harold, the German guy, we're leaving tomorrow. Harold is happy, this is good! No, says José, they're going to kill us. We're going to die! Our Father, who art in heaven, he prays frantically, short of breath. Poncho tells him look if I wanted to kill you, you'd already be dead. Harold tries to calm José down. But it isn't easy. And it won't be easy for US to wait all the way until next Wednesday to find out what happens! Happy Holidays, everyone!

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – VIERNES – Part 1

Fabiola tells Miggy it’s impossible for La Niña Bonita to be expecting his child. Maybe she thinks, like certain members of Congress, that good sperm “have a way of shutting that thing down” rather than impregnate an evil woman. Miggy is very ashamed. He tells FF he has no proof she’s pregnant, but he has one of those TN feelings that she’s telling the truth. When she asks why NB would have tried to kill the father of her child, he tells her it was D8D who tried to kill him.

Meanwhile, back in the dungeon, NB gloats over D8D. She says she killed Useless Rod with her very own hands and says she warned him not to mess with her. [She’s right; she did!]

Sam accuses Willy of having followed her to that party after he says he saw her kissing EM. She tells him it was just an act so that people would believe she was his date. She also tells Willy he left her and made her do crazy things. But she didn’t deceive him. The crazy thing was staying in love with an idiot. [Hear! Hear!]

Ringo again offers to kill JM so Jesús can live happily ever after with the “widow”. EM refuses. He says he has a plan.

Angie pulls away from JM after a very long kiss. She says she’ll never come back to him.

The Colombian hairdresser tells NB that he did as she asked and called Bogotá. The DEA has arrived there, plus Fabiola. She doesn’t want to hear about FF; she touches her stomach and says that the baby will bring him back to her.

Willy, who has no sense whatsoever about his own life, advises JM that he needs to tell Ángela the truth. JM continues to act like an idiot. He says he isn’t going to take the Reptile’s briefcase full of money. Willy reminds him that it’s his OWN money.

Sam has a heart-to-heart with Angie and tells her that after Willy used her and abused her, she was ready to go to bed with Dr. Montoya. But he was a gentleman and turned her down.

EM approaches a depressed looking Lady and tells her she shouldn’t listen behind doors. She admits she heard the whole thing. She has the same worries as Ringo. That EM has enemies here in LA. Showing the same old ability of non-protagonist males to jump the bones of women they aren’t in love with, EM proceeds to undress Lady.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – VIERNES – Part 2

At, I think, Gus’s house, he, Camilo, Clara, Angie, and Laura are having breakfast. [Funny how we rarely see anyone cooking these large breakfasts they’re always enjoying.] When Ángela leaves, Laura asks Gus if he and Angie have anything going on. The reply: ¡Nada! JM arrives to tell Gus about the Reptile being at large in LA.

And, speaking of our favorite sociopath, she enters a room wearing a Santa Clause suit! She proceeds to seduce Ringo, whose indifference melts away at the sight of the Xmas red undies under the Santa suit. Later, much later, Repto-Clause tells Ringo that, if JM dies, she’s going to take Génesis to raise, to be a mini-her.

Fabiola starts to whine [sorry, Deb] to Miggy about her blood boiling at the thought of NB incubating his offspring. In a truly ludicrous turn of events, Lagos – the DEA guy – comes in and tells Miggy he’s not off the hook just because he was 5 minutes away from the Grim Reaper. Oh, no. The deal still stands. He has to go after NB. [Wonder where they’ll put the tracking device this time? Or is this too indelicate a question?]

We get another of the increasingly boring scenes of Sam and Willy sniping at each other, this time about Xmas. Sam gets a call from someone telling her they’ve killed Dr. Montoya. Rather amusingly, Willy: Yo no fui.

We see EM, blood on his chest and an ambulance pulling up. Willy offers to take Sam to the hospital, thinking she’s too rattled to drive.

Fabiola goes after Lagos. She tells him the DEA did NOT protect Miggy. He stupidly says that they are “perfecting the system” and they won’t be able to find the next one. Miggy says he’ll go on one condition: NB cannot be killed.

We next see EM on the operating table. So this is why both Ringo and Lady said he was doing something risky. Gigante tells Sam and Willy that Dr. Montoya was attacked, but survived. He tells Sam she should not have quit her assignment. Willy’s ears perk up and he starts grilling Sam about her having stopped guarding Dr. M. and why.

When Miggy tells Lagos about NB’s pregnancy, he coldly responds that maybe the baby will be another of NB’s many victims – collateral damage. Then Lagos says his guys are looking high and low for Casa Verdugo, and when they find it they’ll destroy everything and everyone inside. [Huh? Why does Miggy need to be involved if this is the plan?]

Willy starts asking a lot of nasty questions about why Sam quit her assignment. I am definitely getting tired of Willy’s act. Gigante tells Sam and Willy that, when they took EM to the recovery room, his first word was “Samantha”.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – VIERNES – Part 3

Cecilia is now doing some kind of work at Sam’s bodyguard agency. She asks Angie if she wants to go out on a manhunt together; she knows some great clubs. Angie smiles and refuses. When Gus comes in, Ceci says, of course, she’s offering her merchandise when her pantry is already full! I really like Cecilia. Gus has come to take Angie Xmas shopping.

JM tells Laura he’s spending the money the Reptile gave him on a very expensive treatment. Then he says this is a special Christmas; it may be his last.

Sam comes in to EM’s room. He recognizes her without opening his eyes, saying it’s her special smell. She tells him she shouldn’t have quit, knowing the danger he was in. He tells her some guys grabbed him trying to get him to give them the “formula”. He refused and they said they’d kill him. Sam offers to again guard him, if he wants. He immediately says he does.

Fabiola tells Lagos that Miggy will never turn NB over to the DEA. They should send her instead. She’d do it!

D8D tells NB to go ahead and laugh. She does. He says she’ll cry tears of blood like those that flowed from RR’s wrists.

Lady and Ringo come in to see EM. He says he wasn’t really shot. The doctor had told him he needed to have his vesícula (gallbladder) removed. So he took advantage of this surgical procedure to fool Sam.

Angie and Gus meet Laura and JM at the mall. Génesis goes to see Santa Clause. Whoops! Santa Clause has a whole lot of eye makeup on. It’s Repto-Clause.

In the usual telenovela lightning quick reversal of one’s medical prognosis, EM starts to feel bad; he grimaces in pain. He has a high fever and is somewhat delirious, talking to Ringo about Christmas when they were children.

Sam sweetly tries to reason with Willy, that they could have a Christmas together and a happy year end. And then she asks him to marry her!

The flatline count goes up! EM has joined the rest of the cast in being dead for a while.

Lagos comes to say that Fabiola has disappeared. Miggy rants about what a bunch of useless cops they are. It looks like NB kidnapped her. She gets out of an ambulance, looking drugged, while NB grins happily.

JM tells Ángela that she should be with Gus; he’s a great guy.

Génesis is on Repto-Claus's knee and says that all she wants for Christmas is that her papí and Ángela get back together!

PABLO ESCOBAR -- viernes

No, it won't be easy for us to wait until Wednesday to see what happens next. But luckily we have Hombre's terrific recap of last night's events to tide us over. ¡Feliz Navidad a todos!

I've been struck more and more with the underlying theme of class resentment in this story in general and in this part in particular. The secuestrados have been selected from the best families in Colombia -- the best educated, the ones with political connections and high positions in important media. They are well-off but not nearly as wealthy as the biggest narcos. But they are better than their captors -- everyone involved knows that -- and the resentidos on the bottom take delight in humiliating these people, forcing them to barter their dignity to meet their basic animal needs.

How farcical it was for Escobar to claim a position on the left and to say he spoke for "the people". If anyone was "the sun king" in this weird, through the looking-glass "revolution", if anyone was guilty of excess in the midst of poverty, it was Escobar. And yet he managed to sell himself to the masses as one of them. Maybe his secret was his ability to tap into the class resentment that smoldered just beneath the surface.

BTW, the psychiatrist with Alberto, according to GGM's account, is actually Berenice/Beatriz's husband. (His real name: Pedro Guerrero)

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Great recap, Novelera, brimming with tidbits of humor! I especially liked Repto-Clause.

EM certainly does go to extreme lengths to win Sam. We know this flatline is just a tease, but really! I think other people warned him that some of the doctors who were paid off will talk, and that Laura and Jessica could identify him, but he's got it ALL PLANNED. Yeah, we'll see.

NB is way too overconfident. D8D could really kill her at any moment, although he won't. They'd have to wait for some more dramatic situation.

Ringo tried, but just couldn't resist Fernanda's "charms". I think she's slept with about 8 or 9 characters so far, many of whom are dead. Ringo may not make it, either.

Lagos is perfect as the cop you have to hate. Duval was dumb, but Lagos is despicable. Someone has to come up with an adjective starting with "l" to describe him. Maybe "Lame Lagos?"

The Reptile is really getting funny with her disguises. Yesterday she was a boy with a mustache when she met Angie. Now she's Santa. It's reminding me of Ana Layevska's disguises in her recent villain roles.

Just as Sam 2 days ago said she'd never be the Doctor's bodyguard again (wrong), now she's giving Willy "one last chance" by asking him to marry her. Doubt it.

Has Sam ever called Dr. Montoya by his first name? No. Yet she was all set for sex the other day. The fun continues!

CORAZÓN VALIENTE

Hombre, I resorted to Thesaurus.com and came up with Loathsom Lagos.

I agree that Willy is not going to accept Sam's marriage proposal. Maybe she has to flatline once more for him to come around!

PABLO ESCOBAR

Terrific recaps, Hombre. I watched two last night and caught up. As NovelaMaven mentioned, we are now in the era of García Márquez' book.

And, NovelaMaven, I completely agree with your class resentment theory.

I got the feeling the lawyer who quit on Escobar may turn up missing in the near future.

I get the feeling the flavor of this telenovela has changed. At the beginning it had elements of a telenovela. There was Pablo's youth portrayed, his infatuation with Pati, his affair with the woman TV anchor. But now, it seems to be mostly a documentary, or docu-drama if you will. They are just re-enacting actual history with very little that's personal about the characters.

I feel like muting the television when Pablo dictates to Peluche or gives one of his "sermons" to the troops. That sing-song quality to his voice [which I would guess is how he really spoke or else why do it] is SO annoying. And his megalomania is unbelievable.

CORAZON VALIENTE-

Great recap, Novelera.

Okay, let's see if I have this straight. EM pretends to have been shot - lying on the ground with a bloody shirt and the ambulance comes but the only person who sees this is Gigante. Why bother? The ambulance people and the ER staff are going to know that EM was not the victim of a gunshot wound in addition to the doctors who did the gall bladder surgery. Why not just call Sam from the hospital and tell her that EM was shot and is in surgery? Was this for our benefit? Was it a tease to make us think that EM was so desperate to get Sam that he would shoot himself?

I'm sure the flatline is a tease, too.

CORAZON VALIENTE
Fernanda has changes her look many times. Maybe instead of the reptile fernanda should be named the chameleon!

Corazon Valiente -

great recap novelera !!!

did I see reptil-claus this weekend at the mall?
whew, no, false alarm,

you make me laugh novelera everytime you point out how hopeless it is to think Fabiola will stop whining,
(but I still dream),
actually I was quite proud of her sticking to her man,
(she is after all the only person, that has ever doubted Miggy's integrity)
but I was totally bummed when she jumped back into the fray with NB, to protect him,
not quite sure how that happened,
didn't she volunteer,
but then she went missing,
and was pulled out of an ambulance kind of druggy looking,
(does NB have a fleet of ambulances like Pablo Escobar has taxi cabs?)
but why does she have to do this all so girly,
couldn't she just slide into her jungle mode,
with an army green T shirt, and the face camo, a floppy hat,
and terrorize NB ala guerrilla,
maybe poison darts?
Ramba stile.

General -

yes Virginia,
there is a Santa Claus,

Merry Christmas everyone!

EL SECRETARIO - Dec. 26, 2012:

After a two day holiday, thanks to telemundo, here's my recap for today's episode in the hilarious comedy, El Secretario:

Felix catches Mario cooking in the kitchen. Felix and Mario have a sit down heart to heart, hilarious conversation about Mario being gay. Felix thinks it is a passing phase, like his obsession with Menudo.

Emilio talks with Frank in Dona Trudy's kitchen about Olga's pregnancy. Dona Trudy enters and says that she's not pregnant, she's just telling everyone that. Emilio is stunned.

Felix can't believe his half-brother is gay. Mario and Felix argue over all Mario's little beauty habits. Mario gets after Felix and his obsession with spoiling his dog, Copito.

Emilio and Frank sit down at the table with Dona Trudy. Trudy stands by her opinion of Olga. Emilio wants to believe Olga is telling the truth. They make a bet and Frank is the witness.

Mario and Felix still talking/arguing about Mario being gay.

Emilio calls Olga at her home and tells her his family wants to know about her doctor for the pregnancy. She wants her dad to take her. Emilio insists that he will take her to see the doctor. As Emilio is on the phone, Dona Trudy makes lots of funny, sarcastic faces at him. After he hangs up, Emilio and Dona Trudy shake hands again - the bet is on to determine once and for all if Olga is pregnant or not. Lorena enters the room, makes a comment and leaves. Dona Trudy calls her "Dona Reptilo".

Felix is still coming to terms with Mario being gay. He wonders if Mario is interested in someone. Mario refuses to say the name. Felix thinks it may be "Ricky Martin". Mario finally says, "Encanto". Felix falls off his chair onto the floor.

I miss the "El Rostro" recaps. PLEASE resume. Thank you.

PABLO ESCOBAR, Miércoles, Part 1

The President, his adviser Ismael and Alberto discuss the “truce” offered by the Extraditables. They're concerned that although the kidnappings have stopped, also the communication has stopped. They're considering modifying the decree, but they don't really want to negotiate with the cartel, not even the Montoas. Alberto volunteers to be a go between.

Lucho gives Maruja a sleeping pill since her cough was keeping her up. She'll take half, doesn't totally trust it.

José is being driven away in a car. He still thinks they're going to kill him, but (after Poncho warns him to keep his mouth shut) they let him go! They also release Harold, Omar the cameraman, and even Azucena. She feels really guilty that Diana isn't getting released. Diana is happy for her, she'll get to see her family, and we see footage of the real Azucena after she was released. We see Pablo and Peluche telling Ramada that he can release the peons and keep the big fish.

The news announces that the government is going to issue a new decree soon. They'll keep pursuing the Extraditables in the meantime, and even though the Extraditables have never admitted it, they consider Pablo Escobar to be the leader of the Extraditables.

Fermán's family hears the tape he made, that he's doing okay. He asks the government to try to do everything possible to free the hostages, but within the law and the Constitution.

We see Irma give Pedro the letter from Nidia, and he later gives it to Pablo.

Topo gives Poncho, Lucho and another guy their pay. They've earned it. Poncho wants more work, offers to guard Pablo, but Topo nixes that, adding they'd better be careful with this money, lots of cops are around. Later, they boys are having a beer just off the street. One guy asks for his money, and Poncho gives him his 10 million ($5,000), and even lends him another 15 million for his wedding. But here come Aguirre and the cops. Poncho and one other guy are killed! Candonga and Marino escape. Candongo tells Pablo, and adds that the only guy we have left (besides our regulars) is Lucho.

PABLO ESCOBAR, Part 2

The President announces the new decree. Now, no matter how many crimes you've committed, there's just one sentence, rather than lots of them running consecutively. They'll be in a separate, local prison. And once again, they won't be extradited. Peluche thinks this sounds good. But Pablo says no, not for me. The only thing I'll trust is a changed Constitution. We won't negotiate. And we won't give up the key hostages, because we need their families to pressure the national assembly to change the Constitution. He says this new decree is NADA.

It's Christmas eve, and everyone's dancing at Pablo's place. He's sitting by himself on the sofa, however, and takes out the letter from Diana Turbay's mother. In it, she appeals to him as a father, a husband, a decent person, not as someone fighting a war, to understand the sadness of being separated from your loved ones. Her daughter was caught up in the middle of this, but all she was doing was being a reporter. She asks him to extend an act of kindness and help the families be united in this Christmas season. The people would think well of you. Show us what kind of a caring man you can be. Pablo does appear to be moved by this. A little. Pati comes over to him in a cheerful mood, and drags him up to dance, while he's still thinking about that letter.

Pop Montoa says with this new decree, isn't it time to turn yourselves in? Pedro says yes. Julio says are we going to say goodbye? Sure. Julio and Pedro hug their father. But German won't. He just doesn't trust the government. Dad, you yourself taught us to follow our instincts. He is NOT going to turn himself in. Here we go again!

Shallowgal, thanks for the mundofox link! I'd been checking back all weekend and could only find up to episode 10... I'm not sure why I wasn't seeing 11-14!!

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – Miércoles – Part 1

Sam asks Willy to marry her. He asks why now? She gives a moving testimonial about her love for him since she was 15, how he is and always will be the only man in her life. Willy gives a simple response: no. This scene is intercut with scenes of the unresponsive EM with Ringo and Lady getting in the doctors’ way.

Miggy tells Loathsome Lagos that he has to find FF. LL says no. Miggy grabs the gun of another cop, LL and the other cops draw theirs so there is the usual standoff.

FF and NB exchange avowals of their strength and determination to protect what is theirs, meaning Miggy. NB rubs her belly and says that she has the trump card.

Sam starts to leave and says to Willy that it is all over between them. Willy replies that he hasn’t told her why he won’t marry her. He lists that reasons that he could have given: that he is jealous and can’t stand the idea of her with someone else; that her job makes him afraid; that he will never forgive her for abandoning their children to go to Colombia. He tells her that the real reason he won’t marry her is, “porque te amo demasiado y tú a mí no,” (“Because I love you too much and you don’t.”)

Lady is crying at EM’s bedside. Ringo comes in and tells her that EM has a bacterial infection.

D8D calls Clara and tells her that he knows that she is getting a divorce. He says that although she might legally be free of him, he will never let her go. Camilo comes in and swears to Clara that D8D will never do anything to harm them. We see D8D calling somebody while Clara and Camilo have sex on the work table in the bakery.

Maybe after Newtown Telemundo decided not to show a scene of Repto-Claus shooting at people, including children, in a public place. For whatever reason, we do not see the scene where the Reptile apparently tries to kill Angie and seriously wounds Cecila. We just see Angie, JM, Willy & Nora talking about it. Cecilia was apparently looking for Miggy because she had something important to tell him.

The Reptile is pi**ed that she failed to kill Angie. She jokes with Ringo that the police and the army couldn’t harm EM but some “hosptial bacteria” has laid him low. Ringo is not amused and tells her not to joke about EM. The Reptile asks if EM dies, will Ringo take over the business? Ringo replies that he only wants EM to return.

EM wakes up when Sam comes to see him. He tells her that if he is alive at this moment, it is only because of her. He says that she changed his life. Sam gives him a protective medal of the Virgin. Lady comes in and tells Sam that this is all her fault. She seems to be about to tell Sam the truth when Gigante comes in.

The police find the abandoned ambulance and then they and Miggy follow FF’s trail with dogs.

NB has FF in her old hideout [which was already raided by the police, right?] She tells FF that when her baby is born, she wants FF to raise it. She doesn’t think a child should be raised in the “selva.” FF agrees because the baby carries Miggy’s blood.

Angie tells JM that she can’t believe his “trato” (deal) with the Reptile to get money. JM looks a little confused but plays along.

Willy goes to see Cecilia in the hospital. She tells Willy that his father has a secret that she doesn’t want to take to the grave.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – Miércoles – Part 2

EM tells Gigante that he wants to see NB.

Miggy and the police enter NB’s old hideout and find FF. She tells him that NB asked her to raise her baby.

Willy tells Cecilia that Miggy is in Colombia and offers to give him the message. She starts to tell him saying that there is an “internado,” which usually means a private school, in Switzerland… and then she can’t speak any more.

Angie makes assumptions about Laura and JM until finally Laura tells her that there is nothing between them, they are just friends. Angie then concludes that JM betrayed her to get his money back.

The Reptile asks Ringo what is the tie between him and EM. Ringo says that it is his past. EM and EV were his only family. He does not want to be the boss. He wants EM to be the boss and take orders from him.

The Reptile tells Ringo that the Xmas season is making him weak (debil). Ringo replies that he isn’t weak but she is because she doesn’t care about anyone, including JM. He says that she is the devil incarnate. The Reptile agrees.

Clara tells Camilo that she is afraid of what D8D might do. Why can’t he leave them alone with their little gardening business? Camilo replies that D8D is in Colombia and can’t hurt them. He tells her that he has formed the company and named it the “CC Gardening Company” using the initials of their two names.

D8D tells NB that EM is very ill and wants to see her. He is arranging the transportation. NB says that she has false papers to enter the US. D8D tells her that they can’t leave until “la noche buena” (Xmas Eve).

Angie and Sam discuss how sad this Xmas is. Willy comes in and tells them that Cecilia is in a coma. Miggy and FF arrive and there is a happy reunion of the half siblings: Sam, Angie and Miggy and FF with her baby. FF says there is at least one good thing: NB is in Colombia.

But no. NB is in EM’s hospital room in a blonde wig. She tells him that he who has survived so many brushes with death must survive this one too. She says that it is possible that her baby is his. EM opens his eyes and tells her that he knows her baby is his.

Laura and Gus are officially back together. She tells Gus that finding Jéssica has changed her opinion about having babies and now she wants to have Gus’ baby.

The Reptile tells D8D that his Xmas gift is on the way.

All the “good” characters and their numerous progeny with the exception of Camilo and Clara, have a Christmas dinner together. Willy gives a nice speech about the importance of family with many significant looks at Sam.

Four bad guys burst in on Clara and Camilo. There is a fight. Camilo overpowers several of the guys but ends up getting shot and the bad guys take Clara.

The Reptile makes a Christmas toast to the dead, the almost dead and the soon to be dead. The bacteria has gone away and EM is ok and comes back to his house. He makes a toast to his child.

Angie makes a snide remark to JM as he leaves about his desire for money. JM responds that he is happy to be a millionaire again. He leaves and Willy tells Angie that he promised but he can’t keep quiet anymore: JM is very ill, in fact he is dying.

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Thanks for the recap, Jean, another great one! Only 3 episodes left, I guess, so secrets have to start coming out, and finally JM's did.

I agree it was confusing they never showed the end of the Reptile in the Santa suit, but you're right, it was probably too sensitive in light of recent events. Cecilia spoke of a boarding school in Switzerland, isn't that where Rod used to go? Not sure how that helps get D8D in trouble, but I'm in favor of anything that can.

EM sure got better quickly. I think he said he discharged himself from the hospital. As usual, no one will follow up.

And as usual, people jumped back and forth between LA and Colombia in the blink of an eye. Now, we're all back in LA.

A couple of other amusing things: The fact that NB could instantly "deactivate" FF's ankle monitor, and LL's later dull reaction to that. Also, I thought those dogs would never track FF, seemed just happy to be on set, but the trainers finally got them tracking.

One would think Camilo and Clara would join in the big Christmas Eve party, why would they stay at the bakery? Oh right, how else could Camilo get shot and Clara kidnapped?

I can't wait until Sam finds out who her wonderful "doctor" is. A few days ago, EM told someone he hopes that by the time Sam finds out, she'll already love him so much she'll forgive him. Sadly, this may be true, as she's given him that protective medal. I'm sorry, but I see EM as a cruel liar, and nothing they do to try to make him seem like a "nice crook" changes that for me. Same with Verdugo, whom I hated til the end, despite his "honorable" actions.

CORAZON VALIENTE-

Thanks, Hombre. I think there are 6 episodes left: 2 more this week, 3 next week (it is preembted Mon & Tues again)and one the week after that unless they do the gran final on Friday the 4th and repeat it on Monday, in which case there are 5 more episodes.

It looks like everybody but D8D is in LA. This business of FF agreeing to raise NB's baby suggests that the baby will be born, which means a time jump but we'll see.

Corazon Vaiente -

thanks so much Jean!!!

the Cecilia thing really threw me, as I wasn't getting there was another time Fernanda tried to kill Angela, other than in the kitchen.

I thought I saw the promo for the gran final on Monday, the 7th.

the EM/Sammi thing was never very credible for me, and the more she is giving in to it, the more I seem to resist it, and EM with his games, his amazing recoveries, and the way his puppets jump when he pulls their strings... why doesn't he see Lady as his gran amor, oh yeah, because he doesn't want to bring her down to his level, but she is looking like she could do some nasty things to get her man.

ah Camilo, the quiet innocent gardener, seems to have never had a peaceful day in his life, thanks to his brother Luis, who still reaches out from his grave.

I also missed the part where Willy told Angela the truth about JM, thanks again Jean.

I have no idea how this will all shake out in these last few episodes, tying up all of the loose ends seems beyond impossible, but I hope there are still some GOOD surprises left.

LA MARIPOSA

AnotherAmy - you're welcome. The site posted 11-13 just yesterday. I've been checking it too, cuz I didn't want to talk about what happened past 13.

Martinez is so torn, you can really feel it, now that he's been ordered to close in on Ledesma and Alicia. What's a man in love with the 'enemy' to do?

Altagracia is desperate, and asks Laurens to help him get his nephew from social services. That Simon is adorable.

Pablo Escobar -

as always, thanks so much Hombre !!!
this is a tough one.

and the Pablo cab company rolls on,
interesting that Pablo always seems to be living the good life, always eating well, surrounded by family and friends...

I was thinking that this would go to last chapters soon, but if anything, it seems to be stretching out a bit, it looks like there are at least 11 chapters left, but probably more.

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Jean, you're right, 6 more episodes. I skipped a week!

CORAZON VALIENTE

Guys i still cant cant believe Duvals betrayal. He was an idiot but they didnt give any details. Thats the same as if Willy suddenly changed sides and became a psychopath like his sister and father. What happened to cecilia? did i miss that capitulo?

PABLO ESCOBAR, Jueves, Part 1

Armando, one of the guys who escaped the cops, a short guy with a crewcut and a light beard, tells Lucho it was terrible that Poncho and Sancho got killed, we don't even know where they were buried. Lucho says you got something to hide? Come inside. He goes in, and Poncho is alive! His chest is wrapped, and he looks weak, but alive. He and Lucho remind Armando he borrower $7,500, so it's time to return it. Armando tells them gee, I thought Poncho was dead, and with Christmas, I sort of spent it all. They're not happy to hear this, and give him 24 hours to return the money. Or else.

Pedro and Julio Montoa have turned themselves in. Their brother Germán, has not. Ismael, the adviser, asks about their brother. Julio tells him Germán is sort of waiting to see if the government keeps its promises. Ismael then asks about Pablo, and is met with silence.

Marino is putting flowers on a grave, as Pablo, in disguise, and Peluche, visit Gonzalo's tomb. Topo and Candongo are keeping guard. Pablo vows vengeance. Then they pray.

Armando asks Mireya for money, after all didn't Chili have money? She doesn't know where it is, that's why she's working as a prostitute again. She feels a little pity for him, asks how much was the debt? $7,500.00. And how much do you need? $6,500.00. Disgusted, she walks away, ignoring his pleas that the guys will kill him.

Pabon gets a call from someone who has info on the hostages. But he tells Aguirre they (the Elite Force) can't handle this, because their job is to track down the cartel, not free the hostages. That's the job of the local police. Aguirre doesn't agree, but Pabon's the boss.

Alberto meets with the Montoa brothers. He wants help with the hostages. But they assure him they have nothing to do with that. He wants them to contact Pablo, so Alberto can talk to him. He reminds them the hostages have been held for 6 months! They repeat that there's no way that'll happen.

Berenice is in pain, maybe has an ulcer. The guards have no intention of calling a doctor. One does give her a pill his wife takes for her menstrual pain. Desperate, she takes it, even if it's not the right thing.

PABLO ESCOBAR, Part 2

Apparently, Armando couldn't get the money, so he's the one who called Pabon. He meets with a plainclothes cop in a car on the street, tells his name, Armando Pantoja. He wants guarantees, the cop says you get nothing unless you help us first. Where are the hostages? He won't tell, but he'll tell where the kidnappers are. Cut to Poncho and Lucho, talking about how if Armando tries to flee, they'll kill him. But here comes a helicopter! Armando is in it, with the cop. It doesn't take long for the cops to kill all the guys on the ground, including Lucho and Poncho! This time I think he really IS dead.

And Pablo is LIVID! He throws a bottle against the wall. He almost comes to blows with Peluche, screaming that the cops don't want to catch us, they just want to kill us! (Well, duh.) He suspects a snitch, and Candongo says he'll check into it with his contacts. Pablo continues. Every action has a reaction. We'll hit back. Kill a hostage, maybe ALL the hostages. Peluche urges calm, but Pablo isn't listening, orders Marino to gather all the hostages together in one place.

The hostage who was with Fermán is united with Diana. She's overjoyed, she was really getting lonely, tells him how she's dreamed of the day they'll be freed, she'll see the sky, the sun, the stars, hug her family. He's still worried, but she says they need us alive.

Armando has now brought the cop to the place where he was guarding the hostages, but they're gone (since Pablo has moved them all). The cop is not happy. Armando says I've done my part, now protect me. The cop says you haven't given us anything. We haven't found the hostages. But, says Armando, I don't know where they are. This is where Ms. Turbay was, the only place I knew. Fine, says the cop, if you can't help me, you're on your own. But everyone will know you were the snitch. He starts to leave, and Armando looks as if he just swallowed a cow. Yikes!

Corazon Valiente
NovelaMan: I didn't see Friday's episode, so no clue how Cecilia ended up in harm's way. Speculation is that some scenes may have been cut. I always liked Cecelia with her pert little glasses.
All: My ongoing thanks to Jean, Novelera, and all the commenters who have kept us going through the length of this amazing novela--my hat is off to you!!!

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – jueves – Part 1

The kidnappers report success to the Reptile. EM asks the Reptile what she is doing and she replies that she is only doing an Xmas favor for her papi. EM then orders everyone out of his room except NB.

Willy tells Angie about JM getting treatment for his illness. “He’s doing this alone?” asks Angie, horrified. Laura confesses that she knew about it, too but promised not to tell anyone. Willy tells Angie that it will require a miracle for the treatment to work.

Miggy and FF are having fun in the pool remembering their stormy courtship.

The police arrive at Gus’ place and find Camilo. They also find Clara’s ankle monitor.

EM tells NB that with his psychic smelling ability, he can tell that her baby is his. He has always wanted a child that could have the childhood he never had – to be able to go to school and university and have a career and be important based on his/her education.

Angie is angry that folks didn’t tell her about JM’s illness earlier. Meanwhile, JM is packing. He writes Angie a note. He asks her to raise his children with good memories of him. Back at Willy’s house, Miggy and FF are told about JM’s illness and Gus comes in and tells everyone about Camilo and Clara.

In the ambulance, Camilo imagines all the things that he will miss doing with Clara.

NB tells EM that D8D is a bad guy and she’d like to see him dead [you’re not alone there]. EM says that being together with her reminds him of the nights they spent together taking care of each other’s wounds. EM asks NB if she remembers one occasion when she was gravely wounded and he thought that he would die if she died. Then he says that he can’t forget that she didn’t die for love of him [when she thought he was dead].

Angie goes to see JM. She does not tell him that she knows about his illness but says that she loves him and wants to spend every second of every day with him.

Clara has been teleported to Colombia. She declares her love for Camilo. D8D hits her a couple of times and rapes her. What a guy.

In the hospital, Camilo asks the other two musketeers, Miggy and Gus, to find Clara. He says that Miggy and Gus are like his family and they taught him to have a “corazón valiente.” Then we get the usual flatline.

For some reason, FF is hanging around outside the hospital and up pops EM. FF accuses him of shooting Camilo and kidnapping Clara. He denies it. He asks if she will denounce him to the police. She replies that she will. He says that if she does, he won’t be able to help her find Clara. He tells her that he saved Alma when NB sent the doctor to kill the baby.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – jueves – Part 2

NB seems to have forgotten about the Reptile’s crazy behavior at her place in Colombia. The Reptile admires NB’s hair and NB admires the Reptile’s bod. They discover a common interest in killing people.

JM asks Angie why she suddenly changed her attitude to him.

EM snatches FF.

After being raped by D8D, Clara is still defiant but then she faints.

JM figures out that Angie knows the truth about his illness. He wants to know who blabbed. She replies that doesn’t matter. What is important is that they are together for better or worse and that JM has to fight to survive.

FF calls Miggy from the car with EM holding her at gunpoint and tells Miggy that she is taking a walk and everything is ok. Miggy is suspicious.

Loathsome Lagos won’t tell anyone whether Camilo is alive or dead.

Clara wonders why she fainted and thinks she might be pregnant. D8D doesn’t think so but we know that she almost certainly is and here is another reason for a time jump.

EM tells FF that he doesn’t like D8D and he wants to help Clara.

NB tells the Reptile that her father is a sinister guy and she (NB) would like to kill him. The Reptile tells her to go ahead and says that she has tried to kill D8D a couple of times but he is too clever.

EM tells FF that they can strike a deal – he will give her information about Clara in return for her not telling the police that he is in LA. FF agrees and tells EM that she owes him a life for saving her child. EM tells her to go to a cafeteria to get messages from him. [Go to a cafeteria? What is this, 1950? Why can’t he just give her an untraceable cell phone?]

The anvils are definitely lining up on D8D. Sam tells Willy that D8D tried to kill her in Colombia. He can’t stop himself from embracing her but then pulls away and says that his father is a monster.

Angie and JM tell their kids that they will be together forever.

EM ask the Reptile what she had to do with the shooting of Camilo and the kidnapping of Clara. He has to semi strangle her to get her to talk. She admits that she did a favor for D8D so that he wouldn’t say that she is a bad daughter. He asks why she didn’t consult him. She replies that he isn’t her boss or her master. She doesn’t answer to anyone.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – jueves – Part 3

D8D brings Clara to a strip club/brothel and leaves her with the madam. EM calls D8D while he is still in the brothel. He asks D8D to release Clara but D8D tells him that it is too late – she is dead. EM believes D8D and is really angry that he can’t fulfull his word. He believes that a man’s word has value. He tells everyone to leave him alone.

Miggy tells Willy that he should take Sam back. Willy asks Miggy how he would feel if FF was unfaithful to him. [Miggy should answer that he would understand since he was unfaithful to FF.] Miggy is going to have a go at persuading Willy over drinks when FF announces that she has to go to the store for milk. She is obviously lying about where she is going.

Angie tells Sam how awful it is to be in love with a dying person. Sam comes back with the old “where there’s life there’s hope” saying. JM tells Sam to fight for Willy.

The madam tells Clara that everyone wants to try out the new girl.

Lady tells NB and the Reptile that EM is trying to start a new life. When she is gone, the Reptile tells NB that Lady is in love with EM and is too innocent. She asks why NB doesn’t kill her. NB replies that Lady is no threat to her, unlike Sam. The Reptile tells NB that her best time with JM came when he believed that Angie was dead. She suggests killing FF to get Miggy for herself.

FF is at the cafeteria. She gets a coffee with a note on it. It says, “Clara is dead. Sorry.” Miggy has followed her and asks what is going on and why did she lie to him. She replies that EM is in LA.

EM shows up at Sam’s house, drunk. He says that he has to say goodbye. She lets him in. He alsmost falls onto the sofa and pulls Sam into his lap. He tells her that he loves her. At his moment, Willy comes in, of course.

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Loved your recap, Jean. A lot more than I liked the story. D8D raping Clara and then putting her in a brothel (and telling EM she's dead) is just sick. And I'm not just talking about D8D, but the writers. They really didn't have to go there, we already hate D8D. Oh well.

Yes, another flatline. Ho hum.

The Reptile and NB make a cute couple.

Lagos really is loathsome. Whether Camilo is alive is a police matter? Have the police done ANYTHING right in this entire show? Please. And the whole ankle bracelet thing is laughable. The bad guys can take them off or deactivate them at will. We've never seen the police track anyone with them. And their chip idea didn't work, either. The only good cops are Gustavo, who isn't trusted by the other cops, and Laura, who is sort of retired.

So right now we have Camilo flatlined, Cecilia in a coma, and Clara probably pregnant. Are we missing any telenovela staples? Isn't it about time for some more baby switching or amnesia? C'mon, writers, pick up the pace!

CORAZÓN VALIENTE

Wonderful recap, Jean!

In real life Willy and Sam's relationship would be doomed. Jealousy is very, very toxic. So far Willy has come in and misinterpreted scenes with Sam and Jefe, his assistant at the PR company, EM once, and now EM again. In every case, he believes the worst and won't listen to Sam's denials.

I liked Clara telling D8D that Camilo is more of a man [I interpreted that as waaaay better in bed.] than D8D. You could tell it smarted some!

NovelaMan, Jean speculated that they cut the scene where Cecilia was hurt because of what happened in Connecticut. The last thing we saw was Repto-Clause looking toward Ángela, with Génesis nearby, oddly thinking Santa Clause wore eye makeup. What apparently happened is that the Reptile opened fire, missed Angie and hit Cecilia, who's now in a coma.

It's just plain dumb they had Loathsome Lagos not tell the gang Camilo's condition.

I suppose Miggy and Gus will have to go to Colombia to look for Clara. This is getting tiresome.

I have enjoyed this novela all the way through, but the multiple kidnappings and victories of the bad guys are starting to seem way too repetitious.

PABLO ESCOBAR

Thanks, Hombre, for your usual well-written recap.

I'm more than ready for this novela to be over. I was, however, quite pleased to see Lucho and Poncho get shot from the helicopter, especially since it drove Escobar nuts. I have found them to be without any redeeming traits at all. Actually, that temper tantrum seemed a bit out of character for Escobar. He manages to have hot and cold running thugs at his disposal at all times. So why does it bother him so much that two of them got plugged? I suppose it's because they WOULD have found the kidnapped dignitaries if he hadn't just moved them.

The actor playing Pedro Motoa has a role in La Mariposa in which he plays an accomplice to a money launderer. He must feel typecast.

LA MARIPOSA

This is a very interesting and well acted novela. I feel bad that more people don't have MundoFox available to them. It certainly doesn't hurt that there will only be 60 episodes!

Unfortunately, I don't feel comfortable commenting on episodes I've seen since those of you watching online are apparently several episodes behind.

The last two episodes have been especially exciting. They have managed to convey the palpable fear that these drug lords cause in those who work for them.

María Adelaida Puerta is so good as La Mariposa. She's beautiful and sexy. She's also very intelligent and well educated. They've managed to show her weaknesses as well, in that she isn't ready to get out of money laundering despite the risks she's taking.

LA MARIPOSA

novelera - i LOVE this novela. wish MundoFox would post the latest episodes the next day, so the others are up to speed, and we can all talk about it.

Michel Brown is so amazing in this, compared to his latest Los Rey on Azteca tv.

LA MARIPOSA

I don't know how AnotherAmy feels, but I don't mind if you guys chat about episodes I haven't seen, Novelera and Shallowgal. I'm a little confused but I'll catch up as long as MundoFox eventually gets around to posting the latest episodes.

I did get far enough to see el "general" Våsquez in Nogales played by the actor who was el Batman in La reina del sur -- talk about typecasting!

PABLO ESCOBAR -- jueves

Hombre, I don't know how you get these great recaps posted so quickly. Whatever you're doing, I remain grateful.

Novelera, I could be wrong but I think the reason Pablo went nuts about the attack on his loathsome henchmen is that it violated what he saw as the "truce" between the Extraditables and the government. It demonstrated what he has said over and over: the government can't be trusted to keep its word.

I see Aguirre and Pabon as representing, in just two characters, the ongoing conflict within the army and police: Pabon, as much as he hates Escobar and his thugs, respects authority and wants to carry out the orders he has been given; Aguirre is frustrated by all the crap that the cartels have dished out and isn't willing to pass by an opportunity to attack.

I'm also ready for this novela to be over. For one thing, without Gonzalo and Chili as his dramatic foils, the character of Pablo is just not that interesting anymore. It also doesn't help that I know exactly what nightmares are coming. Ay.

Coeazon Valiente

Are they saying that D8D has kept hidden the Reptiles child?
