Por ella soy Eva #95 11/30/12: The Big Meeting!
Claudia is bopping around with headphones and singing off-key. She admits she hasn't picked out a school yet. She begs Eugenia not to bore her with her dull tales of ancient times, i.e. Eugenia's youth. The girl is a bit sullen because when she phoned home, her mother would barely speak to her. Eugenia makes excuses for her sister-wife but hints that someday, Claudia will understand. (Will she one day stop wearing those gawdawful braided headbands on her forehead, too?)
And now for something completely different: a Big Meeting. Helena asks Pluto if he knows what it's about. Eva wedges herself between them, deftly elbowing Pluto out of the way. Adriano announces: Someone's been stealing from Grupo Imperio! Eva looks right at Pluto.
Meanwhile, out in the lobby, the annoying space slug that's been impersonating Lucia hints to Cindy, Vero, and Jacqui that she knows what's going on in the meeting, it's something good about Renato, but it's top secret and she can't tell. Groan.
So Adri tells his peeps that, in fact, someone's been making payments to a shadow company, a fake supplier, on behalf of GI. Rebeca coyly remarks that this sounds just like the fraud JC was involved in. (Eva is quick to defend that unfortunate dead man's honor.) Adri says it appears as though Pluto's behind it all. Pluto denies it and asks why he'd steal from the company - he's a shareholder, so it would be like stealing from himself. He says that someone must be doing this in order to smear his good name.
Rebeca suggests that the person who's behind the fraud also framed Juan Carlos. Eva springs to JC's defense again, but Adriano reiterates that they've already confirmed that JC totally stole that $3 million. Anyway, payments were made to this phony supplier and they're still looking into who the phony supplier is, but they already know who was really making the payments. It was someone inside the company, who was trying to make it look like it was Pluto. And to Adri's amazement, that person was...
(Eva interrupts and suggests that Adri deal with that person privately in his office. The answer is no.)
That person was - and there's really no question of it; Adri has proof -
(Fernando grits his teeth, expecting the worst.)
... MARCELA!
Fernando says no. He's the one who did the paperwork on those payments. Marcela had nothing to do with it. But he wasn't working alone - it was Rebeca's idea.
Silvia's job may end. Her boss is thinking of closing up the garden store. Silvia offers to run the place full time while the boss takes care of her husband. Boss says she'll think about it. Silvia panics and calls Bastardo. I cannot fathom why she chooses to reach out to him at this time, nor why she thinks it will go well. He's in the middle of trying to pin a pattern with one hand, so he's in a particularly bad temper. She asks how his arm is, but he's an asshole as usual. "Oh, so now you deign to call me. If you really cared, you'd be here taking care of me!" He hangs up on her. What a waste of precious cell phone minutes.
[I wonder if they have Audrey plants at that garden store. I wonder if an Audrey plant would eat Bastardo, or if it would protest that it's not that hungry.]
So Rebeca acts all innocent and outraged and wounded as Fernando, red as a beet, describes how he cut two checks for her. She denies any knowledge of any checks (these would be the ones she tore up, I assume) and challenges them to find any evidence that she's accepted any money, whereas Fern's been showing off with his new motorcycle and where'd he get the money for that?
After the meeting, Helena tries to comfort Marcela, saying that Fern must have had a good reason for teaming up with Rebeca.
Pluto rejoices alone in his office. "Women are so stupid!" Helena comes in just a second later. Perfect timing... perfectly awful. She's in shock over this new scandal. Pluto takes this opportunity to slam Juan Carlos again. But Helena reasons that if Plutarco was framed, perhaps JC was too. Pluto doesn't care for this sudden turn in the conversation and firmly insists that he was framed, the perps were caught, and the case is closed. He then pulls Helena into a really awkward hug and gets a big smarmy grin on his face. Yeccccch.
Fern goes to Rebeca, who curses him: "I never should have trusted you! But I never touched a penny, so I can't be blamed, you fool. Bye!"
Fern goes to Marcela, who curses him: "I'm ashamed to be your wife."
Marcela tells Eva she's sick of Fernando. No, she's not really going to leave him - she can't imagine being without him (even though Eva assures her that she could take care of the family by herself if she had to). But she wouldn't mind poking his eyes out. Eva says Fern loves Marcela, but she's been enabling his chauvinistic behavior, too. Marcela says that's just how she was raised.
Fern admits to Santi that he did it because he couldn't bear to see his wife taking home more money than he was and that she was promoted over him. Santi tells Fern he's stupid.
Helena is sighing over a framed photo of JC and his mother when Eva bursts into her office. Helena hurriedly hides the photo and denies having hidden anything. Then she says it was just some papers and here they are. Eva hints around that there seems to be something on Helena's mind. Helena says it's the fraud. She can't believe this of Fernando. Eva can't either. Fernando is an idiot - no way was he the brains behind this caper. And why would he frame Pluti? Eva thinks that Pluti really was the one behind the fraud. Helena asks, but why would Pluti hurt the company he works for?
Pluti tells Rebeca that it's time for her to pack up her stuff and go back to Grandma's house. Here's her dismissal letter: it's just waiting for Adriano's signature. She insists that she's innocent; if she'd been stealing money, it would have been millions, not just this chump change. She threatens to talk to Adriano... whatever it is that she thinks she knows. Pluti say he won't listen to her. In fact, Adriano's having Pluti see to her firing personally.
Eva still tries to get Helena to admit what's REALLY bothering her, when the increasingly annoying space slug that's been impersonating Lucia busts in and wants to gossip. She heard about some big news from Renato, but the walls here have ears.
Fern confesses to Adriano that he wanted to show Marcela and the kids that he could be the breadwinner and regain their respect and be the man of the house. Adri replies that money doesn't buy respect; respect is earned. Fern admits that he's an idiot, but please don't blame Marcela. He also begs Adri not to fire him. He begs for a second chance. He'll pay everything back.
Rebeca pleads with Pluto not to let this happen to her. Then she threatens again to take her case to Adriano. Pluto says the fairy tale is over: the stagecoach has turned back into a pumpkin. She says she'll fight tooth and nail. If she's going down, she'll take him down with. Pluto snidely promises to recommend her to some second- or third-rate travel agency.
Fernando's wish is granted! Not the wish for a second chance, but the wish not to be fired. The catch is that he has to resign. At least Adri will spare him the disgrace of being fired. On the other hand, he can't ask Adri for a recommendation, either. And he has to pay back the money he stole.
Outside Adriano's door, Fernando sinks to his knees and starts bawling right there in the hallway.
Rebeca threatens Pluto again with her alleged video. He's still not scared.
Fern is moping in his office. He is so distraught, he crumples a piece of paper and throws it instead of making a paper airplane. Eva comes in while he's packing up his desk. "You ought to be happy. I know you never liked me," Fern sulks. Eva starts chewing him out for being macho. Fern: "That's how I was raised." Eva: "Boy, are you stubborn. What a brute." (I think JC's being rather sanctimonious with Fern, considering that he never would have ditched the macho attitude himself if he hadn't "died" and then had to live as a woman all this time.)
Next, Adri asks Eva, "why do people keep betraying my trust?" (Adriano, it's because you don't pay attention to what's happening around the office. Too busy playing putt-putt or fooling around with your girlfriends.) She tries to plead for clemency on Fern's behalf. But Adri replies, "if someone steals once they'll do it again." Eva says Fern's not very bright and he has a family. Pleeeeeease give him a second chance? For some reason, this makes Adri really hot. He clinches her into a passionate bear hug. She escapes with a couple of pokes to his ribs. She asks him again to forgive Fernando. He nods his head yes and smiles... but he says no. Eva pouts.
Rebeca goes home for the camera. Onesimo interrupts. She's too eager to get back to the office to spend much time arguing with him.
Oh, Adriano, when will you ever learn? He's playing putt-putt again in the office and breaks another photo. (I really can't tell which photo it is this time.) Rebeca arrives with her camera. Adri doesn't want to be bothered. "But this is something very important that you need to see for yourself!" Pluto whines, "but I was going to handle your firing myself." She hands the camera to Adri and says it might interest Pluto too. "This will explain everything," she promises. Adriano peers at it, and... d'oh! That's it?? Good night!
Next time:
Will Pluto discover he's on Candid Camera? Or will Rebeca find out she's been Punk'd?

It really sickened me to hear Fernando giving advice to Santiago about how to control his wife; sounded like Santiago should slap her around a bit eventhough Fernando himself never beat Marcela. The good thing was the reaction he got from both Santiago and Renato: women are not property.
I liked Helena trying to imitate Eva saying "the benefit of the doubt" "el beneficio de la duda."
Was there a sale on big silver earrings? It sure looks like Helena and Rebeca bought the same pair.
Jarifa
I had a nice laugh on Sylvia's wasted cell phone minutes with Eduardo. I hope the pressures of closing the nursery, Ed s failing health and her daughter's imminent wedding don't send her back to that jerk!
The silver earrings were gifts from Pluti. He saw a great sale and got a pair for his mistress AND his future wife ! What a great guy! OK that was a total lie.
No way would Audrey snack on something as bitter as Bastardo. I do enjoy seeing him struggle.
I think Adriano muttered something about "padre" when he shattered the photo so maybe it was the pope.
Maybe I can speak for the lovely carnivorous plant Audrey - no way! Bastardo would give her severe indigestion!
I had to tune in to watch the boardroom reveal. That was great! Great suspense and many surprises. I can't wait to see what is shown on the video. If it's a compromising video of Pluti and Rebe then Adriano finds out that his "saintly" brother-in-law was cheating on his sister. If it's a switch, then Rebe goes down (sweet!), but now she'll double her revenge on Pluti - even better!
Geez - Eva trying to talk Adriano into giving Fer "another chance". Ridiculous! I'm so glad he stuck to his guns. That would have been terrible (and an excuse for Rebecca not to get the boot either).
I liked that even machista Adriano considered Fer's excuse that "he needed to be the family breadwinner" unacceptable.
Hmmmm - I have so not enjoyed the pathetic ingenue (über naive) nature of the Helena character, but I loved how she kept questioning Pluto about setting someone up to look like they committed fraud.
I also love the space slug tag for Lucia LOL!
Pluto's most uncomfortable moment: when Helena noted that if Pluto was framed, maybe JC was framed too. When Juan tried to sow seeds of doubt in Helena about Pluto, it seemed like the seeds landed on rocks. But we can see that those seeds are instead taking root, but among thorns that are trying to choke them out.
Helena's most uncomfortable moment: when Pluto ordered her to stop doubting him. When he had her on a short leash, he could easily pull her back in line. Now that she has slipped her collar, he'll have a much harder time making her heel.
Niecie - I thought the broken photo might be the Pope for the same reason. However, I also thought I saw some green in that picture - and neither the Pope nor Adriano is a big wearer of green. So maybe the "santo padre" was just a mild exclamation of dismay? Could it have been a photo of Antonia?
Audrey - I thought you might speak up for your botanical namesake!
And now for an alternative theory about Claudia's mysterious brother.
(But first, let me suggest that perhaps Renato and Onesimo are brothers, or at least half-brothers. I'm just going by the way their hair flips up in the front. I still think Adri is Renato's father.)
Anyway, Modesto's son... could it be Daniel?
Remember when he had Jennifer's family come to his house? They spent little (or no?) time indoors. They just had a cookout in the backyard. Was that really his house? Was that even their house? Honestly, I didn't think it looked like a house at all.
I thought (and even commented) that his parents seemed a bit odd and perhaps weren't really his parents. They said he'd been in several schools over the last year.
And the few times we've seen him at home, it was of him on the phone. It's always a tight shot and/or in the dark. So we don't know what his room is like.
He spends a lot of time at Jennifer's house. They never go to his place. He's eager to get her alone at her house - when they'd presumably have more privacy at his house. And he's said that his mother doesn't work.
I think the boy ran away from home. I don't know where he's living or who's supporting him now, but he's definitely hiding something.
Maybe Modesto's supporting him. He refuses to discuss this with the boy's mother, so maybe he knows all about this.
Pluto is SO SURE that no one will ever detect his original $3 million fraud nor his Fitsa (or whatever it's called) scheme. Maybe he's right.
But maybe not. Renato probably stopped investigating when he found Rebeca's embezzlement, which was intentionally easy to find. And the auditor probably didn't look beyond that, either. Next time, though, someone might be more thorough. Or someone will leverage Onesimo's weakness for women and get him to talk.
Come to think of it, maybe Rebeca and Onesimo will end up married. Their chemistry reminds me of Tomás and Alícia in LFMB.
I laughed out loud at your comments about Audrey and Bastardo, and also the wasted cell phone minutes. I could not believe she called him. I was actually thankful that he was his usual bastard self, because had he shown the least hint of vulnerability, she would have gone running to him.
I loved the meeting and the result-- Rebe out on her curvy behind, and Fernando finally having to admit that he's a royal idiot. I couldn't believe that JC/Eva asked Adri to give him a second chance. I'm sorry. A person willfully robs his company, he's lucky he's not being thrown in jail. Maybe this will be the start of him finally growing up.
On the other hand, maybe there's no such thing as Bastardo being in a good enough mood to be civil to his wife.
Fern's such a jerk, but at least he didn't let Marcela take the blame. It will be interesting to see what happens to him and what he learns from this.
Interesting theory about Daniel. There is definitely something fishy about him. I thought Modesto's son was older, but I'm not really sure why (maybe because I was sure Renato was the son).

Well, I was surprised by the turn of events. It was to Fernando's credit that he absolved Marcela without any hesitation. I would have expected him to have to think about it first. Santiago seems to have completely straightened out already. He pretty consistently now espouses a politically correct view of things and it's cool that they have him arguing the point with his best friend, El Cavernicola.
Events and characters are getting deeper into the tangled web of deception! Hard to be patient while things are worked out.
La Paloma
Yes, I agree, Claudia needs to get rid of those braids. She seems to be mellowing out as a brat.
I didn't feel sorry for Fernando because he gave Adriano nothing to work with when trying to save his job. He really hasn't contributed much to the company, except for paper aerodynamics and what was he thinking, (Oh right , he doesn't think, he's proud and like most Macho men- he let's his pride rule him.)
I love the reference to someone taking over Lucia's body, because she is so different from the Lucia in the first episode.
Silvia is another one. I know that she misses Mad Dad, but calling him - what was she thinking? He's another proud Macho man.- Geez!
I really liked that board meeting, but too bad Pluti really wasn't found out. I hated the fact Marcela got blamed for the fraud, and was really shocked that Fern owned up to it. I didn't think that Adri would keep Fern on there at G.I. Fern is so dumb, he should have thought about that alliance with Rebe. Rebe and Pluti are like two scorpions circling each other and the video she has, I don't think it will be anything bad against Pluti, he'll have found a way to foil her plan. I just wish that they would find something on Pluti already!
Glad that Helena brought up if someone set up Pluti then what about someone setting up JC? He didn't count on that, and glad Helena is starting to have some doubts.
I really hope Silvia doesn't cave. Bastardo needs to stay alone and deal with his own self. Noone wants to be around him, not even his friend. What a jerk.
I too hope Claudia loses those braids. They are sooo tacky. I too wonder if she is softening to Eugenia. Claudia doesn't seem as rude to her anymore.
Julie- I left you a comment over on Amores Verdaderos :)
Since Eva/Ari and Helene/Pluti have decided to do a double wedding in 3 months we will probably not see Pluti be found out for a while. He's a slippery one, in those shiny suits.
How can we have a story without Rebe? Somehow she has got to stay. I wish they would have pinned the fraud on Luci and booted her out the door instead.
With no job and no recommendation Fern may have to stay home and be the house-husband. Maybe, as JC discovered through Eva, "tuve que vivir en otra piel para saber," Fern could have a much needed awakening.
My first thought about Daniel was that he is Claudia's brother, too.

Sue - you are way ahead of me. It hadn't even occurred to me that Fern is going to be the stay-at-home dad. Oh, that will be fun... for everyone except Fernando. :-)
Julie, a special thanks for always including the chapter number. It helps a lot when trying to see part of it on YouTube.
