Por ella soy Eva #108 12/20/12: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.

Renato tells Lucia that no matter what he does it doesn't help because he's gay.  She looks shocked.

Helena and Plutarco are meeting lawyer Mendoza at a resort in Ixtapa.  Pluto reminds her that she wanted to know who he was implicating in the phone call she overheard, and it is her.  When the Playa Majagua project is finished she will end her job at GI.  She acknowledges this and is feeling uncomfortable.  But... Pluto has arranged with Mendoza to reinstate Moreno Travel for her when that happens.  "All this time with the mystery, you have been thinking of me?  Planning for my future?" she asks gratefully.   Boy, is he slick.  Just then JC passes, disguised as Juan Perez with that ridiculous mustache and a paunch.  He is dressed as a bellhop and carrying a load of towels, and he motions to her with is head.  Helena excuses herself and goes after him.  "What are you doing here?" she demands.  He says he followed Rebeca here, and Helena says don't be ridiculous, she's in Acapulco.  "Now go, before someone recognizes you in that terrible disguise."  He complains about Pluto, imitating a vulture, and Helena says he sounds like Eva.  "Pluto has nothing to hide.  He's only thinking of me."   They fight with a chemistry she never has with the Putz.  Can't she see that?

Renato tells Lucia he's had to pretend to be something he's not because of prejudice, especially in this homophobic agency.  He's sorry to have hurt her.  He says she's perfect and marvelous.  She says sadly that the only man to find her perfect and marvelous is... gay.  With tears in his eyes he begs her not to tell anyone.  She asks him to leave her alone.

JC goes through the hotel's computer to find Mendoza's room number.  Helena tells Mendoza she will go get his girlfriend for him.  A busboy brings Pluto the key to the presidential suite, and Pluto is full of himself anticipating Helena's 'gratitude.'  Mixing metaphors, Mendoza calls him an old wolf of the sea.  They share a manly chuckle.  Pluto reminds Mendoza they still need to talk about setting up Rebeca to take a fall.

In Mendoza's room JC is rummaging through Mendoza's briefcase, when the girlfriend comes out of the bathroom dressed only in a towel.  She likes what she sees (really?) and is all over JC trying to seduce him.  She is kissing him when Helena, in a very revealing bathing suit, walks in the door.  The girlfriend slaps JC and shouts at him, "Don't touch me!"  Helena throws up her hands and leaves.  JC chases after her.

Jennifer tells Daniel she doesn't want to go to Acapulco with him because she doesn't want to lie to her parents.  He gets angry and says that this is what happens when you go out with little girls who still play with dolls.  She has ruined his plans.  He calls her a complete idiot.  Not so much, because she walks away.  He chases after her and apologizes, saying he'll never talk that way to her again.  She doesn't know who he is and slaps away his hand when he tries to touch her.  Apparently she's learned from her parents' mistakes.

JC is begging Helena not to misunderstand what she saw.  Helena accuses him of never changing, still using women to get what he wants.  He's still a womanizer, a macho misogynist.  JC acknowledges that in the past he did use women, but since falling in love with Helena he has changed.  Helena defends Plutarco for the umpteenth time.  She asks JC if he knew Samantha was having his child, and JC is embarrassed.  She looks incredulous.  But JC tells her he didn't find out until after Samantha decided not to have the baby.  Now all he wants in life is to have a family with Helena and Lalito.  "Well, if you're thinking of redoing your life and having a family, do it far away from me."

Pluto is beside himself with glee upon entering the presidential suite to find it covered in rose petals.  He goes out to the balcony calling for Helena.  He turns and gasps, "You?"  "Si, Cachito, it's your little Red Riding Hood," Rebeca tells him.  She offers to play Lion King.  Or maybe Snow White.  Or she can be the evil queen.  Viewerville bemoans its loss of innocence; it will never see a Disney movie the same way again.  He fights off her charms and leaves.  She smiles to herself, "Ay, Cachito, sooner or later you're going to fall again."

Helena finds Plutarco and asks (again) if he'd ever betray her.  "Never," he tells her, "I'm a one woman man."  He proceeds to sweet talk her and she falls for it (again).  She tells him she has complete trust in him.  They kiss, as JC watches from a balcony.  JC calls Mimi to complain about Helena and the Putz.  Mimi defends Helena, reminding him they are engaged.  JC says he misses his man friends, like Mutt and Jeff, and Mimi feels slighted and hangs up on him.  He gets stuck on a ledge.  It's symbolic of his life.

Santiago walks into his apartment to find a strange man adjusting the straps on Angelica's flimsy clothing.  Before Santi can say anything she explains that this is a photographic session and not to be jealous.  The man smiles at Santi- he thinks Santi is hot.  Santi tells Angelica that he's not jealous; he no longer loves her.  Que?  Santi says the only thing they have in common is sex and fighting.  They're like oil and water.  It's best if they separate.  Que?

Hahaha.  Helena is telling the Putz that they may have to postpone the wedding because Eva didn't like any of the wedding planner's ideas.  No way, says Pluto, better they get married themselves.  "What's the hurry?" she asks.

Jennifer and Kevin are walking home and Daniel pulls up in his red car to offer them a ride.  Jennifer says no, but Daniel and Kevin nag at her and she finally acquiesces.  It feels a bit anvilesque.

Helena calls Lalo, who's doing fine, and afterwards tells Pluto she'd like to go home today, ruining his plans for a night of amor.  The guy can't catch a break.  "What's the hurry?" he asks.  "If you tell me you want to go I'll stop believing you want to be with me."  She acquiesces.  He kisses her hand and she forces a smile.  Eva calls and Pluto grimaces.  Helena walks off to tell Eva that JC is there, and Eva sings JC's praises.  "Ya, ya," Helena tells her.  When she returns to the table Pluto says, "Not even from a distance can she leave us in peace."  Helena nods.

Angelica is packing and is on the warpath.  If their marriage isn't working, the only one at fault is Santi.  He used her like all men do.  He'll be sorry when she's a very famous model.  She calls him all sorts of names... man of straw, mediocre, poor disgrace, liar, infeliz, good for nada.  He says she doesn't have to go, but she storms out.

Helena and Pluto are walking by the pool.  "You seem strange," he tells her.  "No, it's the heat," she replies.  Rebeca stumbles upon them, feigning surprise, but she wants to take advantage of running into them to tell something to Helena in front of Pluto.  Uh-oh.

Bill what a wonderful recap. Helena needs to open her eyes and punto already. I am sick of her getting all over JC for things he has done in the past, she is really turning into a harpy. No matter how many times he tries to explain to her about wanting to get proof of his innocence and that he still loves her, she gets harpy with him. JC has warned her all about Pluti as has Eva so why won't she open her eyes and try to see who Pluti really is? I get that she is mad at JC for all the stuff he pulled in the past, but she needs to let go of the anger and start looking at Pluti and Rebe.

I am glad it is the end for Santi and Angie. It's beyond past time and he was right when he told her all they do is fight and have sex, they have absolutely nothing in common. Maybe now he can redocrate his apartment without all the glitzy gaudy stuff.

Renato was very sincere with Lucia I have to say. So glad he told her the truth and maybe now she will be herself instead of the mewling girlchild she has been for the longest time. I think that Lucia and Renato could be great friends and help each other out.

Oh and Bill, loved the title :)

Not watching anything right now Ithabill, but dropped in to CarayCaray for old time's sake and was intrigued by your title. Always enjoy your writing and your phrase "it feels a bit anvilesque" was a hoot. Thanks.

Thanks for the great recap. Jennifer is showing some really good judgment. I am so glad that both the Lucia and Renato and Santiago and Angelica subplots are taking new directions. Less would
have been more for these subplots. Helena needs to start following her hunches and stop wanting to believe Plutarco. Rebecca just never gives up. She and Plutarco truly deserve each other iin the end.

Ithabill -- great title -and where did you get that photo? Priceless. I too loved your "anvilesque" comment. I liked Jennifer's responses but I'm afraid that she's going to crack.

Oh, I forgot to comment on Daniel. He is truely horrid and I really hope now that Jennifer is done with him. Imagine if he tried to the moves on her in Acapulco and they are alone. Too horrid to imagine. Daniel is really a true sleaze.

Hey neighbor Guera. These pictures I took of the television with my camera. Sometimes I pause the video to do it. The one of Eva is from when she went on that boat ride- Operation Honeymoon- with Adriano.

Hi Bill. Great work..loved this! Your comment about how Helena and Juan even "fight with a chemistry she never has with the putz" is right on target. Even though she keeps giving PLuty the benefit of the doubt....I believe her engagement to him is what her head is telling her to do but not her heart. Juan is still the one in her heart and that's why she gets so angry with him when she suspects him of flirting with the French chick. She was French wasn't she??

I recall reading somewhere (in Spanish and my Spanish is bad) that this novella was extended and they added a bunch of episodes mid way through. Lucero had it pre-written in her contract that she would get a bonus if extended. I have to guess that this extension thing happens often with novellas. And I would also think it wreaks havoc on any attempt at a well written and consistent plot. So I theorize that we are going to see a circuitous plot line with subplots that will make us ask, 'why doesn't Helena see that PLuty is a fake' and 'what does that have to do with the price of beans in Chihuahua?" Just theorizin'. Gertie

Fun recap Ithabill! I was so happy to see Jenny kick the Sleaze to the curb, but I hope she doesn't weaken. I did not like seeing her and Kevin get in his car. I am very afraid of what he would try to do if they were alone in Acupulco.

I was also very happy to see the end of two bad relationships- Renato and Lucia, and Santi and Angelica. Now Santi and Lucia need to get themselves together, before they can find their way to each other. Angie will be just fine. I think she's better off without Santi, and I hope she does become famous as an erotic model. She's good at it and loves doing it, so why not? She's found her calling.

The only one I really feel bad for is Renato, because coming out of the closet is tough enough. Coming out in a macho dominated culture and workplace is even more so.

Thanks for the great recap, Ithabill! And thanks for the recaps, previous recappers - I've been out of town and away from the computer so I'm catching up.

Loved that Santi/Angie and Lucia/Renato are winding up their toxic relationships. I hope Lucia and Renato can end up being pals. I loved the actress who plays Angies so I'm a little sorry she's leaving (but maybe she'll be back).

Funny how poor Helena had to walk down that orange staircase two times. Don't know why the director was so enamored with it.

Be strong, Jennifer! All the guys in your family will be rooting for Daniel, but you know in your heart he's a creep!

I forgot about JC comparing Pluti to a vulture just like Eva does with the vulture call that she does; I was sure that JC had given Eva's identity away with that one. Helena was too quick to overlook it.
