Amor Bravío #96 (Uni 91) Wed 1/2/13 “Vengeance Will Be Mine Said the Fly to the Spider”

Old news in the Pueblo:

El Rancho Albarran:

Mariano and Camila continue the discussion of the upcoming nuptials of Pablo and Luzma.  They both agree that the young couple doesn’t want to wait any longer so they will proceed in planning the wedding party. The question is where to have the boooodaa, that’s boda party!  The Malquerida is out because the ghost of Ximena hasn’t been gone long enough.  And the Buenaventura is out because the bad witch Rocio hasn’t had the flying house land on her yet (Pablo’s parents aren’t ready to give in to his marrying Luzma – no van a ceder).  So Amanda, the good witch’s name, is suggested along with her homey hospitable hostel.  Camila throws up her hands, yet again, about what a tipazo (special guy in this case) Mariano is to have come up with this idea (because the next suggestion on the list was the hospital waiting room).

El Rancho Albarran:

Speaking of the Buenaventura, Pablo makes a visit to the wicked witch to ask for his baptismal papers (Fe del Bautismo).  Rocio predictably rants and raves and refuses; so much so that even Cayetano tries to get her to give up her war against Pablo’s pending boda.   Pablo leaves empty-handed, but not before calling mumsy on her b***s*** and decides to just go to the church and get a copy for himself.  Rocio is left distraught and nearly chokes when Cayetano suggests he would rather she give into Pablo’s request than risk losing his son forever.  “Estas loco?” she sputters.

El Rancho Albarran:

Back at the scene with Mariano and Camila, they finish quibbling about who will pay for what at the wedding party.  Camila gets her nosey itch on and presses Mariano to tell her about the surprise that darling Ana was not going to get.  Can she help make the surprise happen for Ana?  Nooooo Camila!  The Mariano / Camila theme revs up and he tells her he was going to tell Ana about his intentions to date, propose to, marry and live happily ever after as a family with Camila – all in one episode mind you.  But, there is a glitch –Daniel- that Camila’s heart is already spoken for.  Camila says she never tried to lead him on to believe she was interested in him and Mariano falls on his sword, again, for her.  He tells her it is all his fault, not to blame herself, etc. etc.  Hijole frijole, enough already Mariano!

Elsewhere at El Rancho Albarran:

Refugio runs into hijito Pablo and reports that there is a guest who is waiting to talk to Mariano but Mariano is busy talking to Camila (wink, wink – even Refugio knows the score for Pete’s sake).  Pablo volunteers to cover for Mariano and meet with her.

New News in El Pueblo:

El Pokey del Pueblo:

LeoSordido aimlessly leans against a wall watching his jail buddy read a book.  He approaches his new buddy and points to the book.  The buddy, surprisingly adept at reading all sorts of sign language from tongueless cons, figures out that LeoSordido would like to learn to read.  Jail buddy points him to El Pokey Prep.  LeoSordido thought bubbles that reading will help him in his eventual revenge against those cowardly clods (mendigos catrines), Isa and the gang.  Viewerville is loathe to agree, but in this case LeoSordido might just have the right idea.

Bridal Shop of El Pueblo:

Luzma and Piedad survey the dresses with flowers and lace.  Luzma gets a little melancholy and Piedad encourages her to enjoy the moment of preparing for her wedding.  Luzma brightens up and points to a special mother-of-the-bride dress (that looks like some sort of hoochie mama Elizabethan inspired number, IMHO) she would like Piedad to wear.  Piedad tells Luzma to save her money for Pablo and herself.  Luzma tries on a wedding dress and melts into tears about how awful she looks with her belly and how she wants to wear a dress she likes that fits her and that she hates being pregnant.  Piedad’s consolation skills are called into duty again and she reminds Luzma to consider the positive in her life.  Strike up Monty Python’s “Always Look at the Brighter Side of Life”.  Luzma is getting married to the love of her life. Luzma brightens up again.  Viewerville senses that each day of this pregnancy will be a verrryyyy lonnnnggg day.

Office of El Rancho Albarran:

Pablo chats with the prospective hire, Marie Elena (I think that is her name? - If she turns out to be one of the good guys I will refer to her as Mena).  He tells her this may only be a temporary job for her if the old secretary returns to the job.  Marie Elena is okay with this as she is considering returning to el DF to study some specialty; this would be as an alternative to working at a ranch with snobby irritable owners, a womanizing son, a perpetually mooning older brother and a major Brat of a houseguest.  Which choice will she make?  She is okay with this “dream job” if everyone agrees.  Pablo excuses himself to get ready for his upcoming wedding.  “Que?” asks Marie Elena who is entirely too new to the place to have an opinion and the camera fades away.

Hospital del Pueblo:

The Commander of el pueblo visits Al who is not in the mood to talk to anyone.  Commander
Cop insists that he needs to notify Al of two charges against him, the first being reckless homicide (homicidio imprudente) and the second one something about being a fugitive from justice (I think).  Al protests that it was Isa who was trying to kill him and Ximena.  Commander Cop clearly considers Al is giving him the usual criminal cop-out and advises Al that is always easier to blame others for our crimes, especially our parents.  Viewerville knows that Commander Cop doesn’t know telenovela Law and Order or Isa or he would be furiously taking notes on what Al was saying.   He humors Al and asks about Al’s accusation that Isa tried to kill him.  Al adds that Daniel was also on her hit list and that her accomplice is Dio.  Commander Cop says he knows nothing about these alleged crimes, just the kidnapping in which Al is suspect numero uno.  Al rhetorically asks Commander Cop how Al could kidnap Camila when he luuvvvs her so much and she is the only one that means anything to him.  He adds that the other meanies are trying to frame him and wash their hands of the crimes.  Commander Cop sees the heart monitor start to go crazy and attempts to calm Al.  He adds that Al should refrain from saying anything more because “anything you say can and will be used against you”.  Al pleads to talk to Camila and explain things as well as to consult with Lic Becerra.  Commander Cop says Camila is out of the question but he can give Lic Becerra the message that Al wants him to represent him in this matter.  Commander Cop asks Al to consider returning his ill-begotten ranch to Camila in an effort to right his wrong.  He assures Al that no one will be able to get him out of his future pokey penitence, leaves documents for Al (who cannot pick them up to read) and takes his leave.  Yup, that discussion will bring Al’s BP down, for sure!

Random Fields and Walkways of La Malquerida:

Camila, Viv and Maja take a stroll and talk about Viv’s love life.  Viv tells Camila that both bros are moving out, Rafa and Aaron.  Aaron is leaving because he wanted to give Rafa and Viv their space. Viv doesn’t want to be alone with Rafa.  Rafa is leaving because he wants to give Viv her space to consider how she feels about Rafa without the pressure of him asking her every five minutes.  Camila wonders how Viv feels about each of the bros.  Viv says that with Rafa she shares a passion for doing things they both like together.  With Aaron she feels peace and protected.  Vis admits that she has had a hard time trusting in love because of Bruno’s shenanigans, but that the bros have helped her get over this.  Camila agrees that this is proof positive of the curative nature of luuuvvvv.  Viewerville is thinking that is sure doesn’t hurt that all three fellows are not so hard on the eyes, either.  “Cure us!” we say in unison.  Camila suggests to Viv’s horror that she ask Aaron how he feels about her – get the facts Vivi- in order to consider her future options.   During this girl talk, Maja has gotten restless watching workers and horses go by and hearing another pooch barking on the ranch.  Camila lets her go run off and get crazy. “Alocate!” she says, and at least some of us in viewerville with the writers would do the same for us.

Hostel:

Rafa and Aaron arrive with their bags and call Amanda to ask if she has two rooms rather than just one.  They have some banter about Rafa waiting around for Viv to figure out how she feels about him because otherwise he can live wherever he wants as the happy novelist that he is.

Streets of El Pueblo:

Lic Becerra is walking towards his office and he takes a phone call from Commander Cop.  He is thrilled to hear that Al wants to see him and he promises to go visit Al ASAP.  As he hangs up and crosses the street, two street thugs ambush him, stab him, steal his watch and drop him to the curb to bleed out.

Hospital of El Pueblo:

Al is seriously bummed about his lousy prognosis and Rosario is trying to have him look at the bright side (I started humming “Always Look at the Bright Side of Life” by Monty Python again).  She tells him life is a blessing.  Al contradicts Ms Sunshine and says he has nothing to look forward to; he is a quadriplegic looking at life in the pokey.  He says he knows Isa has tried to shut him up just like she did with Padre Baldomero.  He gets irritated that Rosario keeps calling him hijo.  Rosario shows Al proof that what she claims is true by showing him a picture of her pregnant and standing next to dear old Sr Al.  Al makes her a proposition that if she is really his mom she will agree to whatever he asks of her, even if it will change her life forever. He tells her she is the only option he has as he can trust no one.  Rosario is eager to please and agrees.  Viewerville is not privy to the ensuing conversation and plot but we are pleased that Al has at least one player on his team.

Ranch Office at El Rancho Albarran:

Cayetano picks through some papers and seems to have come up with Pablo’s birth certificate.  At the same time he calls the hospital looking for a Ms Isadora Lazcano.   Isa, surprised to receive a personal call at the hospital, answers “Dio?”.   She is flustered when it is Cayetano who is on the line and gives him a lame excuse for assuming it was Dio calling.  Cayetano just called to see how she was (strike up “I Just Called” by Stevie Wonder) because she is allll alone.  “Why Mr Cayetano, you shouldn’t worry about poor little ole me,” Isa gushes.  She shrewdly adds that he is the only one that seems to care about her.  Meanwhile, Mariano walks in on his Pops on the phone and Pops hurriedly hangs up and sputters another lame excuse for the phone call while he hurries out.  Mariano is no fool, no siree, and wonders why Pops is so nervous for an everyday sort of phone call.  Hmmm.

Camila’s Ranch Office:

Dan and Dante reconnect (missed telecom product placement opportunity, just saying!) and after buddy greetings Dan tells Dante he needs a favor.  Dan needs to find Abraham to prove his own innocence and to show Abe how wrong he was about Dan -  neener neener nee, so there! – But Abe has gone missing.  Well conveniently Dante has taken time off to help Teresa with her search for justice.  Dan suggests that Miriam’s family had a house in a very remote Chilean town of Las Sierras de Bella Vista.  Dante agrees to investigate.  Dan has another favor to ask of Dante; find Miriam’s grave so Dan can visit and say a prayer for her (rezarme).  Dante agrees.

Street in El Pueblo – in Front of Lice Becerra’s Office:

Marguerite comes to the front door of Lice Becerra’s office to accept a package from the FedEx guy.  After signing for it she glances across the street and sees the feet of some guy lying on the sidewalk behind a car.  She crosses the street to investigate and discovers Lic Becerra lying on the sidewalk, freshly stabbed and robbed.  No puede ser!

Hostel:

Amanda is on the phone with Mariano agreeing to host the wedding party for Pablo and Luzma.  She adds that the extra cash will be mighty helpful.  She greets Rafa and Aaron and says yes, she has an extra room, but isn’t sure why they both have decided to move out of Viv’s place.  She shrugs it off that they know what they are doing (Uds saben por lo que hacen).  Sitting at a table in the hostel dining room, a bad guy is texting Omar to report that the two bros are now moving into the hostel.  Dio must still be spying on Amanda’s whoabouts and whereabouts.

Courtyard of La Malquerida:

Rodolfo and Nat encounter one another and have a “not niceties” exchange about their mutual “not novios”.  Rodolfo makes the silly claim that, yup, Batgirl is the love of his life.  Not even Maja is buying it.

Police Station:

Agustina arrives to file charges against Al for killing her daughter Ximena.  Commander Cop reassures her that he has this crime covered and that Al will be spending many years in jail.  He takes the opportunity to quiz Agustina further about the claims that Isa and Dio might have been behind the attempted murder of Dan.  Agustina says she doesn’t know about esa tipa Isadora, but Dio is an upstanding citizen and would never be behind such a heinous plot.  Agustina’s delusions of Dio continue.  Commander Cop decides he will need to follow up with Dan himself.

Administrator Office of La Malquerida:

Nat arrives and Dio tells her the coast is clear but to shut the door.  He is gleeful that she has brought him his briefcase.  He opens it and breathes a sigh of relief to be united with all his passports and a bundle of pesos.  He asks Nat about a report that he has heard that she spends a lot of time in his office rather than her office.  Nat gives him an amusing excuse that the only TV in the office is in Dio’s office and since she loves telenovelas, she spends time there watching them. Dio promises to put a TV in her office so she can watch all the telenovelas that she wants.  Furthermore, he prods her to continue with her driving lessons.  Nat leaves Dio in the office, closes the door and breathes a sigh of relief as our secret Spy Girl.

Hostel:

Amanda gets a phone call from Marguerita that Lic Becerra has been attacked and is at the only hospital in town.  No puede ser! She and the bros Aaron and Rafa head to the only waiting room in town, yet again.

Camila’s Office:

Dan and Camila have a lovey-dovey chat about going to Chile someday together and some gossipy-goosey chat about why Rafa moved out of Viv’s place.  The phone rings and it is Rafa reporting the news about Lic Becerra.

Only Hospital Waiting Room Ever:

Rosario strolls up to Isa and says she accepts Isa’s offer to help euthanize Al, out of luvv of course.  Isa is super-surprised for about a second and then begins the plan for Rosario to steal some potassium from the hospital medicine chest.  Isa says they can cause Al to have a nontraceable heart attack.  Rosario asks slyly how Isa knows so much about how this murder method works.  Isa tells her that as a loving mother it is her duty to know exactly how to kill her son as he as presumably requested.  Isa just loves Al that much!  Rosario slyly responds that yes indeed she knows that a mother will do anything to help her offspring – for luuvvv!  Viewerville knows Rosario is no dummy and we sit at the edge of our chair to see the plot unfold.

Happy New Year to all the Caray Caray family - recappers, commenters, lurkers and anyone else with a pulse who reads this. I hope you have success in all your resolutions and a productive and peaceful year with you and yours.

I look forward to more Wednesday recaps and learning from all of you.

Recapfully Yours,
Mena

Happy New Year to you too! What a nice way to start it off:
-next selection on the list was the hospital waiting room
-If Maria Elena turns out to be a good guy, you'll refer to her as Mena
-neener neener nee so there
Loved it!

What did Alonso ask of Rosario??????

That was so funny when Natalia said she liked to watch TNs.

Even Rodolfo knew he'd acted like an arse in that convo with Nat.

I'm nervous about new girl with Pablo. Do we smell a wedding postponement? If so, I just know he won't let Luz be alone when she has the baby. Oh, I don't even want to think of it.

3 skingroy

Disregard my "3 skingroy". That was the word ver that I obviously typed in the wrong place. A robot wouldn't do that.

LOL - thank you for reassuring us you are not a robot.

Thanks Mena, very nice.

So much happening now.

Chippie impactada that Pablo is getting married? Me thinks she's been hired by Rocio to put the moves on Pablo while she works there.

I wish we could have been in on Al's plan. I hope Rosario was taping that conversation.

I thought the conversation with Aggie and the Comandante as a bit different. I thought Aggie volunteered some of the info about Dan suspecting Isa and Dion without the Comandante bringing it up, and that peaked his interest because of what Al said. So he said he would speak with Dan to get his side of the story. Did anyone else take it that way?

Cathy X, Yes, there was some more detail in Aggie offering some info after the commander asked her what she knew about Dan and Al's accusations. My eyes blurred over after she went on the Dio defense and because she didn't reveal anything other than to make commander figure he better talk to Dan, FINALLY!

Do you think that Bacerra getting stabbed was a hit on him by Dion? To me, it had to be. I hope Al has a backup plan.

Also, didn't Comandante tell Al that Becerra gave him papers for Al to sign over Malquerida back to Dan?

ah hem, I mean about Al's accusation about trying to kill Dan.

Thanks for the recap Mena, you had me laughing. I'm sure Osvaldo was stabbed at the request of Dio and the watch was taken to make the assault look like a robbery. That should keep Amanda in town for a while. I hope too that Chayo recorded the conversation with Isa who so easily under-estimates everyone's intelligence.

Maya is such a good actor. That dog did not stray once from the script and bark out of turn, even when other dogs/friends were barking on the set. I'm glad SN was smart enough to ad-lib Maya's liberation from that scene.

Yola

Mena, what I'm trying to say, is that when Aggie went to talk to the comandante, he asked her what she knew of what Al said about being accused of trying to kill Dan, and Aggie volunteered the info that Dan thinks that Dion and Isa were also behind the plot but she wanted to clear Dion's name in that. The comandante didn't bring up Dion's or Isa's name first, Aggie did. That set off alarm bells in the Comandante because Al mentioned that too. So that's why he wants to talk to Dan. I hope that the comandante starts having doubts about Al's part and maybe will at least give Al's accusations some thought.

At least the avances show Becerra sitting up in bed, talking. I hope he talks quickly! So much to say, and possibly so little time.

I doubt Bacerra knows anything. He's just going to say it was a random hit. But I hope that he finds someone to get Al to sign the papers.

Thanks, Mena. Very funny recap. I really enjoyed it.

““Que?” asks Marie Elena who is entirely too new to the place to have an opinion and the camera fades away.”—when I asked Flaco to explain that scene to me and he told me what happened, I had the same thought. Badly done writers. Or is there something we don’t know?!

Loved Cam’s shout to Rafa when he calls (though the news ends up bad). Another great bit of business from SN.

Like that Rosario isn’t stupid like SOME mothers in this TN.

I found this ep kind of slow moving. The only excitement was Os getting stabbed, and that was not good excitement.

Nanette

I meant Becerra needs to talk about all he knows about Dio et al. I think Comandante would find him more credible than Al. That's where he was heading when he got stabbed.

Mena - Thanks. Fine recap and I always appreciate vocab. "The question is where to have the boooodaa, that’s boda party!" - cute shout-out to Frankie, whom I hope returns to be of some use to Dan.

I'm glad Dio ordered Becerra to only be hurt, not killed. At least that's what I think Dio was going for since the thugs stabbed Becerra just once. On the plus, maybe this will trigger Amanda to realize she is/isn't in love with Becerra.

I don't think Pablo has any interest in the new girl but that Luzma, already a bundle of nerves, will interpret something innocent in the wrong way.

I'm betting Rosario taped that conversation. Now that Al can literally only use his head, its firing on all cylinders to take Hissadora down.

Hello all and Happy New Year!

I'm joining the "Miriam is alive" camp. There seem to be too many references to finding her "grave." So now we know that Dante and Teresa will go to the mountains to visit her parents to try to find Abe, that it is a remote village, and that Daniel want the address of Miriam's grave site. At this rate, Miriam will probably answer the door at her parents' home or be out in the garden picking flowers with little Dan Jr. in a nearby basket.

Maria Elena ... I don't get her expression unless she immediately thought that she had a love at first sight thing going on.

Osvaldo ... as soon as he was stabbed, I thought about all of your "anvils falling" comments in the past and the mention that he'd be next.

I hope that Alonso signs the papers and gives them to Camila while she's in the hospital (I saw her at his hospital window in the avances.)

Loved the scene in Camila's cabana where she and Dan were drinking coffee and talking, and giving little kisses while he was on the laptop. They just seemed like a content couple.

So Dan doesn't know that Vivi has the hots for Aaron (too).

I still think that there will be a twist in the Bratgirl/Rodolfo story. I'm waiting for something unexpected to happen. I don't care about Yago ... he can just be alone in the end.

Cayetano is already having an emotional affair if he's calling in secret and covering it up. He's lusting.

Looking forward to the next episode. Thanks for the recap Mena!

Feliz Ano Nuevo a todos!

I too thought that Maria Elena could have been hired by Rocio to make a play for Pablo, but given she's a secretary, I didn't think she would be so-called good enough for the La Snob Rocio....or perhaps she's really an heiress under cover.

Dan wants to prove to Abraham that Abe is wrong about Dan.

However, Dan's current living situation only proves Abraham RIGHT about Dan:

Abe thinks Dan was only after Miriam for her money. Now he's resurfaced in Mexico, not a year after the wife he loves so much's death, engaged to a woman who happens to be heiress to a huge ranch and fortune.

Never mind that Daniel was named the heir to the ranch & fortune by the lady's uncle. All Abraham will see is Dan making moves on another rich girl and that will just confirm what he's always thought about Dan.

About the insurance situation: Miriam bought the policy days before the attack, naming Daniel as the beneficiary. Dante was on vacation when Miriam was shot*/Dan went on the run. Daniel, to my knowledge, didn't know about the policy. Abraham, being a detective did, but he's not the beneficiary. Can someone who's NOT the beneficiary file a claim? I doubt Abraham would file a claim on behalf of Daniel.

*If you notice in the opening credits, they don't have the clip of Miriam looking distressed after being shot anymore. They used to have a clip of Miriam smiling and Luis & Camila kissing, followed by a clip of Miriam looking distressed after being shot and Camila screaming over Luis.

Now they just have the clip of Miriam smiling and Luis & Camila kissing, followed by a clip of Camila screaming over Luis. That's another clue in the "Miriam Aint Dead" theory (IMO).

Anon207: Astute observations, as always.

Mena, you are s-o-o-o good. This recap is beyond brilliant. The irreverence, the humor, the alliteration, I hate that work "snark", but yes, that too...stop me.

Yes, I thought Maria Elena was "entirely too new to the place to have an opinion" Kind of made me suspect she was a plant by the bad guys. Seemed abrupt and out of sync.

Aaron is just too sweet and "meh!" for me. He's a cute and serious guy, but nothin's cooking there. The other brother has some spark. But this whole plotline just takes up a bit too much screentime for me.

I was actually yelling "No no no"at the TV when they stabbed Osvaldo. As if we didn't all know this was coming. But I'm beginning to feel the weight of many anvils.

Mena, I love how you learn the name of every character, insignificant or not. I was glad to know that Becerra's sec'y was named Marguerita. All the minor players have so much presence in this show.

In the scene where Juarez questions Ditzy Aggie in his office, I wasn't sure whether or not we were to surmise that Omar was lipreading el Capitan's questions to Aggie or not. I wish they woulda shut the door. Because Dion is getting much too much info about everybody's "whoabouts and whereabouts."

@RosieLaOtra,re:"...when Natalia said she liked to watch TNs"I don't think I've ever seen a TN where there isn't a sly reference to the TN industry. Sometimes, it's even a plot point.

Happy New Year everyone!!!

Great stuff as always!

(trivia & random thoughts) Flavio Medina originally signed for 100 episodes due to previous engagement of his next project. His acting in AB is superior than anyone else - looooove him

I love the speculations; they are fun and creative -- it shows that some viewers have real imagination.... But AB was not written like any other TN -- so far there haven't been any contrived situations; superficial and force fed relationships and rampant cliches and predictability.

So, I don't see why at this point they'll start--for instance Cayetonto is a straight shooter; he says it like it is--there's no reason for him to hire NEW GIRL for interference. Pablo is devoted to and madly in love with Luzma; I don't see why he'll suddenly fall for NEW GIRL.

As Martha Carillo stated AB is original and different from other TN because the basic formula of most TN doesn't apply. It's a drama so the situations are over the top but real life solutions apply to those situations.

Again some are saying how slow these episodes have been; just a caution, it doesn't get any better from now on. But the drama, the angst, the love, the devotion etc etc are really good.

Myo-

Anon207, Abraham told Dan that Miriam is dead. Abraham knows he told Dan that, so I think Dan has a pass to fall in love again. He clearly isn't after her money because Dan is the inheritor, not Camila.

------------

Yes but it hasn't even been a year since "Miriam's death" and Dan is already engaged to another rich woman? Abraham's not going to look kindly on that. It doesn't matter that Dan was the inheritor in the Camila situation...Random Police Detective asked Abraham why Daniel would kill Miriam for money when he was inheriting this big ranch/fortune in Mexico and Abraham dismissed this logic by stating that Dan wanted his Mexican money and Miriam's money too. I don't think Abraham is going to think too highly on Daniel's current situation when he resurfaces.

Anon207 -- great observations; but the opening credits do not tell all the story of the AB--nor do the various promos ... it is just a fragment mostly based on the first part of the story ....

Great recap, Mena! Your zingers at the end of almost every paragraph had me laughing so hard!

I’ve noticed something going on with Biblical names … Daniel is clearly in not only a in lion’s den, but also a hornet’s nest and up a creek as well. Wasn’t Solomon the king who was going to cut the baby in half when two women were both claiming to be the mom and then decided that the true mom was the one who would rather the other mom keep the baby so that the baby would not be cut in half? If Rosario is playing Isa, then it seems we have another non-mom who wants the baby dead and a real mom who doesn’t and a Solomon who falsified the birth certificate. We’ve got Abraham, Miriam, and Aaron as well, but I don’t know how or if they connect to the Biblical namesakes.

I am not so sure what Rosario is up to, though. Al was talking ‘I don’t want to live’ crazy talk right before he made his proposition to her, so I hope he didn’t ask her to mercy kill him.

I like the idea of Teresa and Dante taking a trip into the hinterlands of Chile and spending lots of time together. And I really like the idea of seeing more of Dante in general - for his curative effects. ;)

Commander Cop seems to have half a brain. That’s good news.

I did not like seeing Becerra get stabbed at all.

Cayetano is a really bad liar. So is Rodolfo.

Good going, Mena.

I am also thinking that Maria Elena is a plant by Rocio. Not that Rocio would want Pablo to fall for a lowly secretary; she just wants her around long enough to force a break-up with Luzma. If Luzma then gets the idea that the Albarran men just pump and dump, she'll head for the hills faster than Speedy Gonzales.

Which -- if Rocio really gave an infinitesimal damn -- would make her look like a really bad mother.

Becerra will get better, but we will probably have to wait a while to find out if he ends up winning Amanda.

Let's not also forget the ancient world names: Augustina and Dionisio.

The wife of Rome's first emperor was Livia Augusta except that she had a brain more like Isadora's. Dionisio is the Latin of Dyonisus, the god of wine and revelry. But whose revelry often is destructive.

Amanda makes me think of Spock's mother on Star Trek, whose name was chosen for her because it means "worthy to be loved."

Thanks for this clever and very amusing recap, Mena. Very nicely done.

Wow, yesterday I was all set to leap to New Girl's defense but it looks as though you suspicious ladies were definitely a step ahead (as usual). I think it's safe to say after her reaction to learning of the upcoming nuptials that she has...ummm...an agenda?

cathyx,

"...Abraham told Dan that Miriam is dead. Abraham knows he told Dan that, so I think Dan has a pass to fall in love again."

So I guess that's that... sorry Miriam.

I did notice that Dante agreed to find out for Dan where Miriam is interred so maybe she is dead after all. I would think he would know, what with being her insurance agent and all... and yet...

Also, I was thinking that the comandante still thinks that Dan is Andres. Has he been told the truth about Dan's true identity? I must have missed that.

Carlos

Carlos, I remember Dan and Comandante Cop talking in the hospital waiting room (where else?) and Dan telling him who he was. He also giving him his word that he would come in to make a statement on Leonicio (which he hasn't done yet). This was after Camila's kidnapping, while she was still in the hospital.

Carlos, That is actually true and a detail I didn't bring back out. The only thing that he was told is that Dan is at MQ. But he does, as far as I recollect think that Dan is Andres based on their conversation is the, of course, hospital waiting room when they found Camila.

What a fun recap Mena! Thank you.

See, told you that chippie had her eye on Pablo! I don't think she's some kind of plant-- Rocio isn't that smart. But I do think she saw a cute, young, rich guy, found out he was going to be her boss, and started having all kinds of happy fantasies. He shock, I think, was a combination of her fantasy so quickly coming to a screeching halt, and being genuinely surprised that someone so young is getting married.

Carlos- Comandante does NOT know Andres is Daniel. When they spoke in the hospital and he told Andres that he still needed his statement, Dan just sort of hemed and hawed and said ok, but didn't come out with the truth of his identity.

I can't wait to find out what Al and Chayo have planned.

I was very happy to see Lic Becerra sitting up and talking in the previews. I don't know about you guys who felt this was a boring episode. Lic Becerra getting stabbed, and Al and Chayo plotting against Isa were plenty for me!

Loved the scenes with Vivi-Cami-Maja, and Cami-Dan. I also want to see more of Dante. Why not add another cute guy to the mix? :)

I just reread that.... let me restate it using a few brain cells. Yes, the Commander Cop still thinks Dan is Andres. He knows that Dan is around and living at MQ but has not put Andres together as Dan.... that is as far as I recollect unless I missed something over the holidays. Based on my loopy explanation, it is also possible I missed something!

Vivi and Mena, I think you are right. I also think you have much better memories than I do. :)

Mena thanks for your recap. And everyone has such great comments.

Niecie - ITA that Dio must have only wanted Os harmed and not dead b/c his hired thugs had the opportunity to do so.

And regarding our new girl, ITA w/Vivi that hiring her would be way too advanced for silly Rocio; she just got shocked her new secret fantasy boy was off the market.

I think Vivi really has the hots for Rafa, more so than Aaron. When Cami asked her if she was grossed out, felt nothing, etc when Rafa kissed her, Vivi answered, "I didn't feel nothing (the double negative used in Spanish), I felt EVERYTHING!" She also mentioned the word passion with Rafa. Peace and protection, the words she associated with Aaron, sound more like brotherly feelings to me.

Re: New Girl. Wouldn't Rocio had told her that Pablo was getting married and that she wanted her to stop it? It wouldn't make sense to hire her for that and not tell her the whole truth. Unless she was acting. If she was surprised because she was attracted to Pablo AND he was awfully young to get married, I still think her reaction was a little overdone. Maybe the writers meant for her to tell him she's shocked he's getting married so young, and that gives him pause. Though knowing Pablo, that's not about to happen. Really don't know what's going on here.

Miriam could be dead and Abe has the baby.

Netgirl- No. Dan does not know that Vivi has the hots for Aaron too, so Cami was kind of stalling and trying to change the subject when Rafa called and she was saved by the bell, so to speak. This is just between Vivi and Cami. While Rafa, Aaron, and Dan are confused about why Vivi just won't say yes to Rafa. Boys with the boys, and the girls with the girls on this subject.

Great save and quick thinking by Nat with the telenovela thing!

Thanks Mena for another of your great recaps.

Netgirl. I love your comment “Cayetano is already having an emotional affair if he's calling in secret and covering it up. He's lusting”
That is so true but isn’t that ultra sweet tone in which Isa “purrs” his name “Cayetaaaaaano” enough to make any old fart lust ? :-)

As far as the various subplots, I enjoy Rafa and Aaron, they are scheming and entertaining which keeps me anticipating their next move. However, IMO, it’s the Luz and Pablo subplot that has gotten way too much screen time. Theirs is the same thing over and over.

Excellent and very funny read, amiga! Lots of snarky zingers that had me giggling all the way through!

Oh my - I laughed through this entire re-cap Way to go!!

Myo - I also love the way irony of the characters and thier biblical similarities.

Heres some fun stuff:

Ximena comes from the root Ximen = Simon. Jesus renamed Simon, Peter. Legend suggests that Peter was crucified upside down.

Luzma = Luz Maria = Mary and Light

Pablo = Paul - converted to Christianity and became one of the most influential writers of the New Testament.

Rafa = Healer

Aaron = Moses' brother. People went to him to have him ask God for forgiveness. Remember when he told the scoobies to all make nice and forgive?

Dio = God; and boy does our villiam think he is God.

Natalia = Born on Christmas day. Who was born on Christmas? Jesus? Jesus = Son of God... Natalia is Dios kiddo... just saying

Miriam - Moses' sister. Helped Moses escape death as a baby by placing him in a basket and sending him down the river and then watched Pharohs daughter find him. And convinced the Princess to let her mommy (also the baby's mommy) be the nurse.

Piedad = Pious

Osvaldo = God's Power

I would personally prefer Rafael to Aaron any day. Despite the eyeglasses he's more alpha and more sophisticated.

We'll see about the New Girl, but what I'd like to see her do is call Bratgirl on her BS.

Thanks so much, Mena. Great summary and lots of spark.

It does seem like we are at a new stage with lots of resorting and rearranging. Like others, I can't help but wonder whether the wedding of Pablo and Luzma will take place. I felt so sorry for Luzma yesterday when, looking so pretty in the dress, she said again how much she hates the circumstances.

I've been so busy these last couple of days that I have had to watch the episode on line and have not had time to comment. I am thrilled that tonight I'm set to watch at the witching hour, like everyone else. Even my little dog Portia is looking forward to a late night viewing of our favorite TN. Now, if we can just stay awake that late!

What a great list, Samatha Jean! I love to analyze names, but I haven't been able to make many meaningful connections here. I suppose that would be asking a lot of TN writers, even ones as good as those behind AB.

But I do think we should look for Miriam to show up with a baby in a basket.

Traveling Lady - I feel your pain :) I haven;t been able to comment all day and even now I should be doing other things, but just had to stop in and get a few thoughts down:

Chippie's reaction was totally weird. Can't wait to find out why she's all "Que?!" to Pablo getting hitched.

Pobre de Becerra! I told him to watch his back, but then he got stabbed in the gut! Ay! Glad he seemed to be salvado (por el momento) in the avances.

Pobre de Luzma! She's gorgeous, but having her freak about being fat in her wedding dress and break down over how much she hates her situation broke my heart even as it made me smile. Her situation is AWFUL, but somehow the way she complained was adorable because all I can think is how Pablo won't care at all what she's wearing or how she looks in it.

Dio seemed to buy Nat's reason for being in his office and now she knows he's keeping close tabs on her, so that's good. He seemed disappointed in her TN watching (hater), but that's totally in character with his tan ambioso-ness that doesn't have time for such a joyful wasting away of time. Still, I'm somehow sad that he's disappointed, a lil because I don't want her to end up being berated every five seconds like Gussie is.

ITA about the cuteness of Dan and Cam. It made me hit up youtube to check out the earlier capitulos when Dan was Dandres. I LOVE the capitulos 50-60s when Dan would "come home" to Cam's cabana and they'd talk. They're so cute and it such a real couple thing to do. Yet another reason I love this TN - they're both smart and they work out probs that have nothing to do with their relationship together rather than just go on and on about how much they love each other and want to be together and will (honestly, in most TNs I'm like "why? all you ever talk about is your love and how long can that convo last without there being a reason for you guys to love each other like actually liking each other?")

I certainly hope all Rosario has to do it tape convos and Alonso doesn't get her mixed up in anything crazier than that.

I know Dante's glad to hear from Dan, but he seems all smiles when talking to a man who's trying to clear his name of murder and find closure about his dead wife. He and Teresa could be cute though. If they're together though, then do Mariano and Miriam have a thing? Scratch that; Ana would have a baby bro, but how awkward for Cam and Dan to live next door to those two - eck!

LXV - agreed about Aaron. Tots cute, but I don't see Vivi meditating in a semi-closed comunidad. If her name was Amparado or Paz then maybe...

Nice look at the names by the way!

I think it odd that anyone would link Mariano and Miriam together. That's the second time I've read that. Why would anyone consider those two as a match?

Yep, you have to take those opening credit pictures with a grain of salt. We waited and waited for the bare chested arm wrestling in AdeP and it never happened. What a teaser.

No kidding Rosemary, we waited the entire TN to see that scene and it never happened. We sort of even predicted it to happen in different episodes, but they let us down.

Cathyx - I actually was only thinking about it in terms of happy/good people being coupled off by the end asTN law seems to dictate. After people started mentioning Teresa and Dante as a couple, M&M were just kind of left out in the cold when I was mentally mapping couples out, so I stuck them together, but then got weirded out by the neighboring ranches thing. Somehow that seems awkward and disturbing for me. Sigh, it's so much easier when the first pareja/o dies off tragically in the beginning of a TN.

HellaShelle- "they're both smart and they work out probs that have nothing to do with their relationship together rather than just go on and on about how much they love each other and want to be together and will (honestly, in most TNs I'm like "why? all you ever talk about is your love and how long can that convo last without there being a reason for you guys to love each other like actually liking each other?")"

In TOTAL agreement about that. Most tn couples leave me scratching my head about why they love each other, or if they even like each other!

I don't think it will be easy to just schlep (sp?) Miriam off to anyone else. Unlike Mariano, who has never been in a relationship with Cami, she's actually Daniel's wife and his first love. I honestly can't see how it's going to end if Miriam is alive. In CME they killed off Doc Tatas, and the galan never loved her, just knocked her up. I feel they should have kept her alive, because she wasn't a real threat to the heroine. But Miriam would be a real rival for Dan's love.

Thanks Mena! Excellent as always. I love the comments too. It shows how deeply we are all into this TN!

I've watched TNs for almost 10 years and am still amused when they make references to TNs, like Nat did.

Don't know if anyone in this audience watched "Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe", but many times during the scenes in Rafael's mother's house, the TV was on with "Las Tontas no an al Cielo" in the background. So amusing!

LoriLoo- I recapped Dinero. There were often tns on the tv at Rafa's house, not just Tontas. It was fun to figure out what tn they were watching at the moment.

My bad about the double post. I thought the robot watcher denied the post the first time around.

As long as we are pairing people up, don't forget that Mariano and Teresa had a thing years ago. Also, Dante and Miriam are super close friends, and Dante loved her once but knew that she loved Daniel.

BTW, I'm also in the "Miriam is alive" camp, but don't know how it will be resolved, the Dan/Cam/Miriam thing. I believe Abe has disappeared because he is caring for Miriam someplace..... maybe that family property in the small Chilean village that has been mentioned?

Vivi - you are so right. I believe I may also have seen "Sortilegio", or maybe I'm just remembering Jackie Brancamontes...

I named my last kitten Rafa after "Rafael Medina Nunez"! As stupid as it was at times I really loved that TN. I also downloaded several of the songs.

RlaO: I haven't watched the opening credits in awhile--this may be gone from them. But there was/is a shot of Leo holding a gun to Padre B's head. That never happened.

LoriLoo - LOL that's exactly the TN I was thinking of when commenting on TN couples talking about their love all the time! I saw most of that TN in recent second airing, and while I really got into it, I was like what is keeping these two together? All she does is cry while he runs around putting out one fire after another.

I was intrigued by Victoria's love affair with the much younger Gabriel Soto character. You all were talking about that a while back when discussing "good" older female characters having actual sex lives/drives in TNs and how rare (and wonderful) it is.

Ok. Let's look at our pairs and spares...

Current couples we like for the long run: Cami-Dan; Luzma-Pablo; Amanda-Osvaldo; Dorotea-Eluterio (their flirting is cute); Piedad-Hipolito (also some cute flirting)

Couples we want to see broken up: Nat-Yago; Gussy-Dio

Men available for coupling: Mariano; Yago (after he ends it with Nat); Rodolfo; Rafa; Aaron; Dante; Tolentino

Women available for coupling: Vivi; Natalia; Teresa; Iliana; Maria Elena; Irene; Miriam (if she's alive)

Seven free women, for seven free men!

Notice I have not re-entered Gussy in the available women pool. Three strikes, you're out Gussy! Sit out the next game on the bench.

I think Nat/Rudolfo and Vivi/Rafa should go in the rooting for category. I'm not too invested in the other loose romantic ends, though I could see how Tolentino and Irene could end up together.

I feel bad for Gussie. I don't see anyone for her yet and a fourth marriage seems like a lot.

HellaShelle - Gabriel Soto and Danella ??(Victoria) characters saved that TN for me. They were the best part of it but also Roberto, who is a current bad guy in Por Ella.

When I mentioned the stupid TN that I actually loved I meant Hasta que el Dinero. Sortilegio is the one TN where I preferred the bad guys to the good guys!

I was just rewatching the eppy and the dialogue in Osvaldo's stabbing scene seems rete-awkward. He repeats everything the police guy says (presumably to let us in Vville know what's up) and then the assailants are like "Esto is un asaulto!" Um, yeah, we can see that. Weird work on the writers' part.

Loriloo- The final scene of Dinero is still my favorite tn finale scene. I got tears in my eyes as Rafa and Ale sang that final song. I think I'm going to have to look it up on YouTube right now...

HellaShelle- I felt like the guys who stabbed Os said that just to throw him off the scent. I'm sure it was Dio who sent them.

Bratgirl and Yago really deserve each other but I don't think it will happen.

She is sooooo delusional! Didn't she tell her mom (or thought bubbled) that she wasn't leaving the Buenaventura without an Albaran marido?!? Yago hates her and Mariano totally dismisses her.

LoriLoo- Daniela Romo played Victoria in that one. And I agree, Roberto's character wasalso intriguing. It's the only time I saw a bisexual character on a TN and I was surprised a how much they explored that theme. They showed he and the other evil guy (forgot his name but he was in LQNPA) in bed together and then discussed how it would affect Roberto's adopting his stepdaughter.

PS: Anyone else wondering what the look was on Hissadora's face when Cayetano abruptly ended their convo?

Vivi - was it "Amarte a la Antigua"? That is such a sweet song!!

Back to AB.... I vote for Vivi/Rafa, Nat/Rodolfo, Os/Amanda.

LoriLoo- I loved that song too. But the final song was "Di me mi Amor". Start around minute 4:00 here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyi-Ii6iBLM

Thanks Vivi, I'll check it out.

HellaShelle - yes, that is the one and only time I've seen bisexuality even mentioned. There have been several (or many) TNs that have a gay character. I even remember one where a gay man went straight! (La Mujer de Lorenzo)

Roberto's buddy Ulysses was played by our favorite bad boy, Julian Gil.

Good coupling list Vivi! We could name the show "7 Brides for 7 Brothers". Oh wait, that's already been done.

Mmmmm, have you ever seen Julian shirtless? Mighty fine, mighty fine.

This comment has been removed by the author.

Vivi, you left out Dante and Isadora. Although I think Isadora will be in prison eventually.

Dante's on my list. But Isa and Dio are a match made in hell, and don't need to be included in the list.

Cathyx - Dante's in the mix as an available guy. But Hissadora is so out. She's in bed with el Diablo and the only thing she's available for is rotting in prison or dying.

Sorry Vivi, didn't see Dante and he's so cute I didn't want him left out. But you forgot that Dan is paired up with Cathyx, so that makes Camila available too.

Well, Camila's going to have to share him with you AND with me.

If CathyX gets Dan, I want Hipolito. I fell in love with him on CME...

Now, now ladies. No pushing and shoving.

Good thing Dan the Man is capaz, no?

LoriLoo, we had a lot of fun with Dinero. I'm guessing that you didn't watch it with us because we had a blast with it.

Vivi, by chance, I recapped that last episode. Actually Hombre and I shared the last episode and I got the last half with all the music. Because it was mostly the big wedding, I used a bunch of photos and made links to all the songs. I checked back on it and surprisingly all but one of those links are still holding up. The only one that Youtube has blocked was "Amarte a la Antigua".

I think that Univision is currently reairing Dinero late at night.

Carlos

Carlos- I remember that last recap filled with wonderful pics. You and Hombre did a fab job of covering what was basically a concert of our favorite hits from Dinero.

Hi Carlos,
No, I was not with you all then. A good friend turned me on to Caray Caray during CME, but I lurked for quite a while.

When Dinero was on I was working at a large winery in Sonoma Valley. A couple of the cellar rat- muy macho guys were also into it. We would talk about it at work in espanol... I got a lot of good practice with my spanish!

My goodness Mena--you have quite a following. Thank you for your recap--trying to let you know before the next recap goes up.

That was so sweet of you to offer up your name to Maria Elena--if she turns out to be a good girl. Too bad we probably won't know since tonight Dan 'n Cam jointly realized that with the way things were at the moment it wouldn't be a good idea to hire her. Pablo agreed.

Now, to read the 60 or so comments I didn't get to read earlier.

Hey everybody--re New Girl Chippie. Her Que? was cut off pretty quickly as I recall. Maybe there was more to her reaction and it got left on the cutting room floor?

Samantha Jean--Thank yo so much for the riff on the names. I guess we owe more to the writers than their just plucking names off the credits of these and other tns and recycling them as well.

How about Hipolito? He's going to come into Piedad's life (if WE have anything to do with it, that is). In both Greek mythology and as a Roman Catholic saint, he didn't come to a very good end. We hope this is not the case here.

HellaShelle - Just got to your Nat comment. Nat explained that she didn't have much to do and that's why she was watching the tns. Dio said he would give her her own tv in her office so she could watch as much as she pleased.

I don't think he really has that much for her to do. He just wanted to have her near. To make sure of it he offered her the huge bump in salary and the car.

So, I don't think it was so much being disappointed in her. He's been deprived of being around her growing up (shock) so I don't think he'll be doing any berating--unless he loses his temper and it may not be her fault. We've seen how he can just fly off the handle when something doesn't go right.

cathyX & RLO--The opening credits do lie. Remember when we feared for Padre Baldy's life when we saw Leocerdo holding a gun to his head? Nevva happened that way.

Apologies, Nanette. You got the answer before I did. As you can see, I'm working my way down the list AND it's late.
