Amor Bravío #113 (Uni 108) Fri 1/25/13 Family Feudin', Battlin' Brujas, Hammy Gams, and Mariachi Magic

#113
Lo del Pasado:

Natalia has gotten a pep talk from Admirer Numero Uno de Ravishingly Hunky Rodolfo.  He’s told her he’s seen the true nature of Dionisio Ferrer and it ain’t nice; her daddy’s doesn’t compare to her mama’s.  He’d choose Sra. Amanda over dubious Dio any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

At the same time, our fossilized and fleece-worthy de Cayetano has thought to put El Rancho de La Buenaventura in Isadora’s name since his divorce attorney has advised the near senile sucker that he’ll need a trustworthy front-man as a figurehead in whose name he can place ownership of his properties for the next 6-8 months till his divorce is final in order to avoid being forced to divvy half of it up with rousted Rocío.  Who else more trusssstworthy than Issssadora, Viuda [negra araña] de Lazcano, our resident eight-legged black-widow herself, who has gracioussssssly agreed to do it. (Viewerville sneers and snickers to itself that this deluded antediluvian is too smart by half and is about to get spider-bit in the shorts but big-time!)

Lo del Nuevo:

In the hotel lobby, Refugio feels certain about Cayetonto’s reconsidering disowning Pablo as his (legally recognized) son, despite Rocio’s objections. Refu counsels Rocio that she’ll have to get down on her knees and beg forgiveness from Pablo for the shamefully degrading and humiliating situation she’s put him in before all of this is over.   Of course, Rocio includes herself in the “wronged” category and blames it on Refu’s big mouth.  Rocio doubts she’ll ever forgive her nana for betraying her to the rest of the family the way she did. For once, Refugio doesn’t have an answer bocazo or no.

Upstairs in the Hacienda La Malquerida, Piedad and Pablo are tucking Luzma into bed and making her comfortable.  Pie reminds Pablo to call La Buenaventura to let his family know they’re back and why.

Back in town, Mariano has checked his mama into her drab and simple hotel room.  The rich ditz’s first worry is whether Mar’s daddy is going to cancel her credit cards or not.  Mariano swallows and takes it in stride;  he says he’ll cover the expenses so not to worry.  He takes a call from Pablo at that point.   Pablo explains the how and why they had to turn around and come back so early.  He mentions to his big bro that Camila was generous enough to allow Luzma and him a bedroom in the main house while she recuperates.  Mar says he wouldn’t have expected her to do otherwise, and then adds he’ll be right over to check in on him.  Rocio begs Mariano not to say a word to Pablo about what’s going on yet.  Mar says no way and anyway, it’s her place rather than his to tell Pablo what’s what and what’s not.  He warns her once again not to utter another lie or else and exits, stage left.  Rocio is left to her morbid and mortifying thoughts of a return to her prior menial existence.

In her own hotel room, Isa is entertaining a most dapper Dio and she tries to wheedle the truth about his and Amanda’s past relationship or relations? Whichever, she’s not sure.  Dio tells her point blank that his personal history is none of Her Nosiness’s beeswax.  “—Well, it seems you’re just full of secrets, huh?” He gives her a deadpan stare.  “—Look who’s talking.”   The two scorn Camila’s supposedly inane idea of actually sharing ownership of part of the M.Q. with Pablo once they’ve proved he’s truly Don Daniel’s son.  As for La Buenaventura, says Issa, bringing things back to the apparent subject at hand, the only way of grabbing control was to pull Rocio out by the roots [contundente=convincingly, forcefully].

Issa giggles giddily with the guffawing Dionisio after telling him about her success at having the ossified old galoot ask to hand over the whole of his ranch to her for the next six months in order to avoid giving up anything to his soon-to-be-ex, and without a second thought!! Yep, she’ll get full control of the property for six months once she signs the papers, and who knows what can happen in that amount of time!  Their celebratory sex follows but Viewerville—thank gawd--gets pre-empted from viewing the obnoxious nookie-fest.

Back at the M.Q., Mariano has a heart-to-heart over a couple of chilled ones with Pablo (who is probably blue in more ways than one, considering he had to call off the honeymoon before christening his wedding night).  Mar commiserates and grabs Pablo’s bottle for the DNA test sample while Pablo’s got his back turned.  Pablo laments a bit longer.  Mar offers to have their mom lend them Refu to take care of Luzma for a while, noting it won’t be a problem since the two old ladies aren’t getting on very well these days and could use some time apart from each other.

At the same time, at Amanda’s B&B, Daniel has a heart-to-heart with Natalia hoping to get her to see reason [entrar en razón] as regards the truth about her not-so-darling Daddy Dio.  He asks her not to fall for his little scheme, and not to believe what he’s told her about why her mama lied to her all these years.   Like his own mother, she kept her away from her father to avoid any bad influence.  If she lied it wasn’t done with bad intentions, but to keep her childhood happy.  Nat says she wasn’t prepared to meet her dad and now has a desire to be around him because she doesn’t think he’s as bad as all that.

Dan suggests that a truth of life is that one’s love for a parent isn’t an obligation, but needs to be earned and deserved. It’s felt in the gut [las entrañas] and comes from the heart, not the head.  He reminds her then that she herself has witnessed what Dionisio is capable of because she knows what he did when he first found out that Daniel was heir to the M.Q.  Besides, he adds, if he was such a good and caring father he would have looked for her once he knew her mother had left him.  He never did, though.  He might also have recognized a bit of himself in her when he met her, but he didn’t have the first clue.  She shouldn’t kid herself about him or she’ll come out of this hurt.  She admits she is angry and confused.  (So what’s new?)  they share a familial hug and Amanda, from the shadows, sighs, feeling now a bit more relieved.

Back at the M.Q., Cami is having a chat with Mariano now.  She promises her emotional support if Cayetano craps out on Pablo in the end.  They both agree that their feelings toward Pablo won’t change because of what her uncle and his mother did so many decades ago.  (Well, that’s a relief!)  Cam invites Mariano to her wedding but he decides to distance himself in order to better forget her as a love interest.  She plays dumb and wants him to spell it out.  He tells her she’s a smart cookie and knows exactly what he’s talking about and why he won’t be around for the festivities.  (What?  She’s already got I don’t know how many men dead and/or dying for a hop into bed with her and still she needs another ego booster?  Good lord!  Give it a rest, girl!  You’ve hooked the best of the bunch so nix the naivete, toots!)  Pablo will be an eternal tie between them, he says, but as long as Mar’s in love with her, he’d prefer to stay away as much as possible.  Well, she’s gonna miss him then.  He says the feeling’s mutual, mentions he’s gotten a bottle Pablo was drinking from to use for a DNA test and then leaves, his tail appropriately tucked between his legs.

Dan says his good-byes and to call him anytime cuz he and Nat are family, ya know. Nat remembers to give him Alonso’s email address, but she says she hasn’t got the password he used.  Dan smiles and says he can figure it out probably.

Across town, Viviana and Rafael run into Lic. Becerra and ask how the investigation over the telephone calls between Julian and Dionisio is coming along.  Os says yeah, Juarez is still working on it.  He’ll let them know when and if anything comes of it.  They can’t let Dionisio keep pulling the wool over Agustina and Natialia’s eyes like this.  All three lament that the two are so alike in not willing to see what’s right in front of their noses.

Back home at La Buenaventura once again, Mariano cries in his beer…er…his booze.  He pours himself another shot and sips as he remembers back to all the various times he met up with and palled around with Camila.  How in the world, he agonizes with a groan, will he ever get her out of his head and his heart?

Across the way, Cami thinks to herself that she hopes Mariano will one day soon find the love of his life just like she found Daniel.  Just then Dan walks through the door with a beautiful bouquet of red roses for her.  She jumps his bones.—More like they’re about to jump each other’s’ bones.  (You sly dawg, you, Dan!)

In another part of the hacienda, in the main house, Dio is griping at Omar and wondering when he got a call from Abraham Farca and why he didn’t know about it sooner?  (Uh, I believe you were in one of your usual rages over one thing or another.)  He tells Omar a lot of good it does to talk to him now that Daniel is marrying “his Camila”.   “--Ok, ok, he says.  So what details did he give you?”  Dio starts jotting something down on paper.
~~ end Parte 1~~

Viviana wants to take Cami to try on wedding dresses.  Dan resists getting fitted for his tux and Cam tells him to get Rafa to go with him.   They smooch a bit and she mentions Mariano isn’t coming to the wedding.  Dan says he’d think it was strange if he did come; he himself wouldn’t like seeing the woman he’s in love with marrying some other man.  Cam wonders if he doesn’t care though.  Sure he does, but he knows that as long as she’s there with him he’s got nothing to worry about.  What other guys think or feel is their problem, not his.  More smooching.

Later that morning, Rocio finds Isadora sitting in the lobby of TOHIM  (the only hotel in Metapec).  There’s an immediate scream fest.  Rocio comes at Issa yelling at her for wrecking her marriage by having given that letter to Cayetonto to steal him from her and to take him for all he’s worth.  Issa smiles brazenly at the rousted Rocio.   Issa is brass-knuckles and full of sassy, smug cheek.   Shy and deny is not in this chapter of the Issadora Roba-maridos Rulebook.  “—Pretty ingenious, eh?  How did you ever guess?  All of it, ALL of it is to be mine!”  Rocio, incensed, throws a glass of water at Issa (Personally, I wouldn’t have stopped there.)

Daniel tries cheering up Luzma who’s now stuck in her hacienda bedroom in a wheelchair to avoid putting her pregnancy in further danger.  FF>>

Downstairs, Pablo admits to Mariano that it’s tiring stuff being attentive to Luzma with the iffy pregnancy. Mariano tells him to buck up.  Nothing lasts forever, and this certainly won’t.  He’ll see.  Pablo mentions too that he’s getting on well enough there at the ranch, he still feels like a mooching relative (arrimado) of sorts with Luzma and him staying in the main house as guests, and that it’s been pretty rough caring for Luzma in her state.  Mariano, tho’ sworn to secrecy till the DNA test results are back, does tell Pablo a bit of what all has been going on at the homestead the last day or two.  Their dad’s been having problems among other things with their mother; it’s put a strain on the marriage that’s probably irreparable.

Issa grabs Rocio’s arm before she can slap her and yells at her never to attack her again.  Cayetonto arrives and immediately takes a now surprised and soft-spoken Issa’s side in the argument.  He refuses to heed a word of Rocio’s rantings about Issa’s intent to fleece the clueless old coot and steal the slavering old oaf blind before it’s all over.  After hearing (the now) honeyed sobs of feigned frustration and crocodile tears from Hissadora, he refuses to listen to another word from raspy voiced Rocio and shoos his carping harpy of a wife out of the lobby amidst veiled for-Rocio’s-eyes-only smug smiles.  (I say a pox on both their houses!)  He’ll be sorry!  She’ll be sorrier if she doesn’t shut up and make do with the property and bank accounts he’s already giving her.  With a divorce pending they argue over the DNA results and how much it might count in a divorce trial. (yawn.)

Pablo tells Mariano that he thinks if it’s come to this with their parents, then it’s all been Issadora’s fault.  He is certain that woman is capable of absolutely anything to get what she wants!!  Mariano assures him that their dad will see through anything Isa might have in mind.  (Think again, oh one of such limited foresight.  Think again!  We all remember how good you were at recognizing Camila’s signals, don’t we.  ¡Ay!  Mariano, you give me indigestion to the max!)

Vivi and Cami spend the day in bridal shops.  Dan and Rafa get him fitted for his tux.  This time around Dan chooses to go charro-style in honor of his new-found Mexican rancho roots.  FF>>

Dan returns to the hacienda.  Outside he finds none other than Vicente Fernandez standing and staring at the hacienda.  Seems he made a movie there at one time with a Miss World.  Dan and he continue to chat and he tells VF that he’s getting married.  Vicente says he’d like to meet his fiancée, but he will “in his own way.”  Dan agrees and he and Dan get into a huddle agreeing to meet later that afternoon.

Yago advises Nat to take advantage of all the nice things a rich daddy could give her. Enough with the sentimentalism, he says.  Try being more pragmatic, he advises. When she tells him she’s hoping he’ll finally make their relationship public and that they’d eventually get married he gets snippy again.  It’s the worst timing in the world for that.  Anyway, he warns her again about pressuring him.

Amanda admits her fear to be at Daniel’s wedding, though she’s promised to give him away.  She’s afraid of having to confront Dionisio there.  He reminds her she’s not alone, he and all the others who love her will be there to protect her and Nat.  She then confesses to Osvaldo that with all the problems with Natalia, she’s gotten so close to him that she’s beginning to see him in a different light [de otra manera=lit. in a different way].  FF>>

Rocio is regretting her loose ways back in the day and the way she is paying for it in the here and now.  Despite everything she loves Cayetano, her life-long mate, and it hurts to see how the viper is about to take him for all he’s worth.  Without the love of her son’s or Cay, her life has no meaning.

In Isa’s hotel room, Cayatonto gripes with his back turned to the preening femme fatale that Rocio had no right to attack her the way she did.  She tells him she’s puzzled why he’s still with her after all this time.  She’s so beneath him, she says. He agrees, he says as he turns to acknowledge her.  Just then Isa begins seducing Cayetonto, as she very calculatingly disrobes in front of the mirror next to her bathroom.    Though it and she are in a tiny alcove, she is very much within his line of sight.  The old goat gets his first glimpse of her shirt slipping off and he gasps.  Next, the grinning ghoul drops her skirt to the floor and his jaw drops to the floor right along with it.  He chokes and sputters for air, wondering if he truly gets her meaning.  Taking a few steps, he gets a good gander at Hissadora’s bare (and rather broad, je-je) backside.  Damned if he doesn’t nearly keel over from all the excitement!  (Damn, woman!  The way the old dude’s gasping for air, you should have made sure the transfer of ownership paperwork was signed first!  You’re risking him dropping over dead before he’s put the pen to paper!)

That night Cam realizes it’s late and Dan hasn’t gotten back home yet or bothered to call to let her know where he is.  There’s a sudden jarring ring on her cell.  It’s him telling her he’s outside on the patio by the drive and wants her to come out right away.  She runs out to see what’s what and sees Vicente Fernandez and his band there next to Dan in a most enticing gold colored charro.  She hugs the two of them excitedly.  VF compliments Dan’s choice in novias and chides him for not describing Camila’s beauty adequately.  VF and the boys begin the serenade a moment or two after with (what else?) Cuando Manda El corazón.   Momentous mouth melding and hugging scenes flash across the screen as one of the best in the biz belts out his ballad.  This part of Viewerville smiles and sighs as it listens and looks on, not just because of its mesmerizing melody and haunting lyrics, but because of the  mellifluous baritone that delivers it and then transports the audience to near nirvana—a perfect way to end this episodio, wouldnchasay???

Well, the title is a masterpiece! I am hoping the Mariachi Magic means our opening credit singers are really there, like they led us to believe in the previous avances.

Off to find out.

Anxiously awaiting your recap, Jardinera.

I can't stand it when Cami runs to Dan andd wraps her legs around him...just can't stand it!!!

Ann-NYC

Jardinera, your titles are always a work of art. Hammy Gams, haha. And speaking of Hammy Gams, Dion's laugh when Hammy Gams told him about Cayetano ceding over BV to her was terrific. I laughed right along with him. It can't be more perfect for them.

Ann-NYC, I'm the opposite. I love it when she jumps into his arms. I wish I could do that to him.

Did I blink and miss Isa being asked about the land ceding by Cayetano? Did they deprive us of what was sure to be an excellent facial expression by Isa?

I LOVED Vicente Fernandez' role! I simply must go on record as saying I now love this song and all the music in this tn. At the very beginning, I said just the opposite, not knowing how much it would grow on me.

What was with the beer-switching?

I love Dan the Advice Man. That man has it all. Compassion, caring, great looks and bod, and good advice for his little sisters. Sigh.
And I want to add, when Dan was talking to Mr Mariachi, his smile made my palms sweat. And Mr Mariachi is sporting some major brows.

I really hope that Camila didn't pick a frilly wedding dress. That wouldn't suit her. Can't wait to see what Dan will be wearing.

Rosemary, I was surprised when Isa told Dion about the ceding too. I didn't remember Caye telling her about it.
I agree about the song. When I first heard it as the theme song, I was disappointed. It sounded out of place to me for this TN. But when I hear certain songs over and over, sometimes they grow on me, and this one did.

The beer switching was Mariano getting DNA evidence. I was hoping that Mariano would turn around and give them his own bottle so that it shows that Pablo is Caye's son, but I guess he's too honest for that.

Ya think Vicente did a lip sinc?

I think Natalia is beginning to see Rodolfo's fine qualities.

Camila isn't a frilly girl. Funny when that huge dress almost knocked her down.

Yago is such a turd, I think he said sth like Nat's problems are nada compared to his, selfish ass.

Jardinera -- Your title, as usual, keeps us coming back for more. So funny -- hammy gams really captures it.

Daniel is such a caring big brother, partner, etc., to all. I am so sorry that I doubted CdlF in this role at first. He's perfect. I've seen Fernando Colunga show some of that same gentle and wise manliness in some roles, but Christian is getting the prize in my mind for this kind of characterization.

I have seen SN in Manana es para siempre and a film (Labios Rojos, the name, I think). Excellent -- missed CME. In this role, it is her compassion, steel and playfulness that I love. She's great with both Daniel and her friends. The business with her, Vivi and the wedding dresses was very cute.

Don Vicente -- tan lindo. I'm not crazy about ranchera music, but this tune melts my heart.

I remembered Rene Strickler in another less than positive role. He was in a forgettable novela called Sin Ti, with Adamari Lopez and Gabby Rivero. He was more cad than villain, but not our squeaky clean hero.

Looking forward to Jardiner's take on this good episode.

Variopinta - I hope Natalia is seeing Rodolfo's finer qualities, as you suggested. But that scene, where all you could see were yellow pants hanging onto an arm way up the road, and then the closer they got, you saw it was Icky Yago she was hanging on to. Think Natalia Think!

cathyx - of course it was for the DNA. Thanks for reminding me.

Again, this song really has grown on us. I wonder if it is the song, or the love of the tn or the promise of Caray friendship. Whatever, it does evoke warm feelings.

The first time I heard Philip Phillips sing "Home" on Idol, I didn't like it, and now it's my favorite song. Sometimes it takes hearing it a few times.

Woohooo! One episode closer to a BOOODA!!! (sloshes alcoholic beverage around)

Another fabulous title Jardinera. I look forward to the recap because I know it will be a fun one.

Ann-NYC- I am sure your displeasure at watching Cami jump into Dan's strong arms and straddle him has everything to do with wanting to be in her place. At least, I know that's how I feel... ;-)

I also loved Dan be loving with his little sisters. The last two episodes, one of my favorite words in Spanish (or any language) has been used a number of times- apapachar (to cuddle, pamper, spoil, indulge, fuss over). Cami said last episode to Luzma that they would all apapachar her while she's on bed rest. This episode she told Mariano that when the paternity crap hits the fan, she would be there to apapachar her little cousin Pablo. And Dan told Nat that she could call him anytime to talk or if she just needed him to apapachar her. What a great word!

RlaO- Love the avatar pic. Is that near your home? We've just finally had our first real snow the last few days.

I've always enjoyed the theme song, and it's grown more on me as time has passed. I always thought that it fits well with the ranch setting. Love that Don Chente made an appearance (even if he was lip syncing).

I'm sort of annoyed that after Nat got such great advice from Padre A., Rodolfo, AND Dan to forgive and trust her mother, and to be on guard with Dio, she still asks for advice from Yago (who has been ignoring her for days). And she appears to be taking his advice more seriously than anyone else's-- play your parents against each other, your mother is likely a lying ho like mine, and take your dad for all the money and gifts you can get. Really Nat? Does this seem like the person you should be listening to?

Tks for clarifying what Yago said Vivi. I knew it wasn't good, just didn't get it

Variopinta- He just said it in a nicer way, but that was the gist of it.

I thought that Nat broke up with Yago, and he didn't want to hear from her anymore, but then we see them together. Couple that with not seeing Cayetano telling Isa he wants to sign over BV to her but she's telling Dion he's doing just that, it's like we skipped an episode.

I think that Mariano's attitude with respect to Camila is over the top. She's never said she wanted a relationship with him, never led him on, and he hasn't even kissed her on the mouth. Not even once. (Except in his fantasy). He's not some addle brained teenager working on his first time experiencing being in love. He's been married before and has a child. Yet he can't even bring himself to come to her wedding.

Nat gave Yago an ultimatum, which in her deluded mind he took seriously-- remember she told Amanda that he was speaking to his parents about her. Yeah, right! Then she kept trying to call him for support after the DNA results came in. So no, she didn't really break up with him. A couple of days passed in this episode that we didn't see, so I guess in the time Yago finally decided to call Nat back and see her. Since the audience knows what's been going on in both of their lives, they spared us hearing them tell each other about their family dramas and just gave us the tail end when Yago gave his (lame) advice.

I do feel cheated out of seeing Isa's sh*t eating expression when Cayetonto proposed putting BV in her name for a few months. I loved Dio's laugh when she told him.

Cathyx- Well, I guess we have to give Mariano credit for being honest with himself and with Camila. If he knows he can't handle it, then he shouldn't be there making everyone uncomfortable. I was amused by Dan's reaction-- the way he pulled Cam to him, pelvis to pelvis, while he basically said he's got no reason to be jealous since he knows he keeps her VERY satisfied. OK. Not really. :) It was more something like, he's got no reason to be jealous since he's sure of her love for him...but I think he also meant the other thing.

Vivi, I like your version of what he told Cam much better.

Thanks, Vivi! I took that picture driving home from work yesterday

Re the lip-syncing question...I've always been a bit annoyed because it is pretty apparent that the video we see every day with the theme song is lip-synced. Perhaps for that reason, I watched a little more closely than I otherwise would in the scene with the mariachis. It wasn't clear to me whether Don V did or didn't. If I had to guess, I'd say yes, but perhaps only because he did so in the main TN video. Unless there's a really compelling reason (sudden very sore throat and a deadline, for example), I tend to lose respect for performers who lip sync.

Lip synching might happen in situations like this because of inherent difficulties with outdoor shooting. It's the only way to get it perfect without doing multiple retakes.

I last saw Don Vicente live about three years ago before the renovations to Madison Square Garden and he is an amazing performer. I also heard from radio station contacts that he is also a charming man who does meet-and-greet events with fans and completely lives up to his image as a man of the people.

Was anybody else hoping that Cayetano forgot his blue pills last night? And how apt was that claw-like necklace worn by Hissadora?

Was anybody else hoping that Cayetano forgot his blue pills last night? And how apt was that claw-like necklace worn by Hissadora?

Haha UA, he did looked completely shocked when he saw her in the mirror. Here's hoping to not having to see the gory details of that coupling. That necklace would go great with her animal prints.

Vivi, since you like to "intellectualize" everyones opinion, could you explain why it's ok for Mariano to not get over his obsession with Camila, yet you are unsympathetic with Nat who can't get over Yago not based on her own feelings but based on what other people has told her.

Cayetano seemed to have second thoughts after seeing Issa's clothes drop-off. We will have to wait and see if he can perform. Ha ha ha … this is going to be so good.

I think I'm ok with Mariano because he knows he doesn't have a chance with Cami. I would be equally annoyed with him if he were still trying to convince her to be with him and not with Dan, and kept thinking he has a chance with her. I wish he wouldn't keep speaking about it, but I don't begrudge him loving her.

Natalia keeps trying to make Yago love her. She keeps trying to convince herself that he will change and one day declare his love for her publicly. I hate that she debases herself by begging him to be with her and refusing to accept the reality of the situation.

And just comparing the two objects of impossible love-- It is totally understandable why Mariano would fall for a warm, loving, strong, intelligent woman like Cami. It is quite another for Nat to be so in love with a man who has shown himself to be a disrespectful jerk like Yago.

I thought it was nice that Don Chente (Vicente) made an appearance, the serenade, etc. … but then … the firewoks! Man! I thought I was in Disneyland.

Vivi - if I may... Camila is kind and understanding with Mariano. OTOH Yago mistreats Nat. We desperately wish she'd dump him. Nobody likes such rudeness whether in a TN or in real life.

I am wondering how common it is for the theme song to be sung by the actual singer as part of an episode?

RlaO: Iv'e seen it several times... in CME (Enrique Iglesies and that other guy); Una Familia con Suerte - the theme by the crazy woman - she sang it in an episode; In an early episode of La Fea, Luigi is taping a video with the group that sings the closing song - El Club de las Feas; Pablo Montero sang one of his theme songs in an episode, maybe it was Olvidarme Jamas; those I can think of right off but I'm sure there are others.

I think I read something in Spanish that said Don Vincente has "recently" recovered from some major illness. Depending on the shooting schedule he may not have been able to give a "live" performance for what is, after all, a pre-recorded show.

No problem with the canned vocal even if he wasn't ill, tho. Even if his voice was in good form, I'm not sure I want to hear what it would sound like "on location" with a TV crew setting up the sound.

Now set up a stage and charge me admission for a live show, well...

(Besides, isn't Les Mis getting all sorts of press for being the first musical in ages to NOT use lip syncing?)

BTW: I remember in several of our commenting sessions how we wondered just how Isa was going to get her hands on La Buena, since Caye has three, well two, sons: I think it is delightful how easy it was in the end!

Which ever of you wonderful recappers nick-named him "Cayetonto" - Bravo!!

Also... someone wondered yesterday if Isa is in cahoots with the lawyer... I was wondering the same myself.

Nope, Vivi. I find that pose very
very unflattering and unfeminine. I guess it's that ole generation gap, on my part anyway :-).

Ann-NYC

LoriLoo, it was Paquita del Bario who coined Cayetonto.
I never came up with this senario in all my musings over how Isa would get it with so many heirs in the way. Can she possibly be able to find two dirty lawyers to bribe?

I hope one of these days someone can actually tape one of Isa and Dio's conversations.

Cayetonto played into Isa's hands so easily; it was truly child's play for her. It was hilarious how she could claim to be victimized by Rocio. I hope everyone sees her take him to the cleaners.

Poor Nat like Gussy keeps making really BAD decisions w/regard to men and then listens to their advice. Oy!

Loriloo & Cathyx - though Isa could have bribed or slept w/this lawyer, but I think Cayetonto is such a dufus she didn't even have to work that hard. He is so hell-bent on saving his manhood and appearance of toughness that he won't even consider that she is playing him for a fool.

When she was disrobing, I was thinking, as UA noted, Cayehorny didn't take his pills; he looked more scared than ready to take her.

LoriLoo,

As I recall, Cayetano offered to help Isadora and found that lawyer to aid her in finding a way to recover MQ. I think that adds another layer of irony to his downfall.

I feel some sympathy for both him and Rocio. They both have major flaws and lack of respect and intolerance for those not on their social level...enough to make us despise them, but they have shown remarkable generosity toward Iliana and her family.

As we await Jardinera's retelling of the events of last night perhaps someone can help me struggle with my own moral concerns about this TN.

I have a major problem with and disgust for bull-fighting and yet here I sit each evening rooting for those who raise the bulls to sacrifice in that brutal spectacle as they battle the evil tourism industry which presumably wants to preserve the natural beauty of the region and make it accessible for outsiders to enjoy.

A clash of cultures or basic moral concerns?

As for my take on Yago/Natalia and Mariano/Camila:

Natalia...open your eyes!

Mariano...shut. up.

Carlos

Carlos- I've had the same thoughts. But I let it go as a cultural thing that I may not understand and that I try not to judge. I actually have enjoyed learning about the fighting bull raising industry, just because I like learning new things. But if I thought about it too much, I might start rooting against the ranchers. We don't know if the tourism people would actually preserve the natural beauty of the land. They actually might do some major damage. In any case, those guys that Dio meets with look like jerks, so I'm going to choose the good guys over the jerks. :)

Carlos- I wonder if people in Spain have similar conflict. A love of the animals and the ranching lifestyle with questions about how the bulls are treated in the end. Isn't it Portuguese bullfighting that doesn't kill the bull in a slow duel? According to Wikipedia, it still gets slaughtered in the end but away from the arena where (hopefully) more humane methods are used. (Hard to put "humane" and "slaughter" in the same thought but since I'm not vegetarian-curse you yummy sausages- I guess I can't get too righteous about it).

If bullfighting were ended, would there be any reason to keep the bulls around? They'd either be let loose to fend for themselves (can domestic bulls do this?)or allowed to die off. Is this kind of violence saving a species and is it worth it to what it does to us?

HAPPY NOTE- Mariachis! Live or memorex, it was still good. Loved seeing a big happy scene before all the mierda hits the fan.

Kelly

Let's say that instead of bull fighting, this was dogfighting, and dogfighting was an acceptable 'sport' in this country, would anyone be ok with it?

I root for the deer during deer hunting season.

When I lived in Haiti, and my neighbors would go to cock fights, and speak about their particular fighting cocks, I took the opportunity to learn what it meant to that particular culture. I learned some interesting things about the connection to religion and how the men saw it as one of the very few opportunities for entertainment, going all the way back to slavery. I never attended a fight. When I spoke to my neighbors about it, I let them know of my disapproval and why, but never in a confrontational way. They accepted my point of view, but didn’t share it. We agreed to disagree.

But I was in their country, under their laws and all I had the right to was my opinion. If I learned my neighbors in DC were running cock fights, I'd call the police on them.

Sorry guys... just call me Debbi Downer today.

Just allow me to say that it was a lot easier to get enthusiastic about Tequila (Destilando Amor), wine (Cuando Me Enamoro), and Mexican pastry (Fuego en la Sangre).

Carlos

I hear ya Carlos. I think the best thing to do is not think about it too much. There is nothing that anyone can say that will ease your mind if you think about the fate of these bulls. Which is just what my vegetarian and vegan friends feel when they see me and others eating seafood (which I LOVE and happily tear into a lobster in front of anyone) and meat.

Ok, switching gears from dead animals, I was re-thinking how Rocio could end up living at LaMQ. She will need a place to stay and Camila and Pablo may send her up to ask Luzma's permission to stay there!

Vivi,

Years ago The Lovely Linda brought home live lobsters and our daughter, Andrea, who was about 4yrs old at the time wanted to adopt them and cried bitter tears when she learned of their impending execution...

FF to tonight when we are taking her out to dine for her 41st birthday specifically so she can enjoy... well you might be able to guess.

Carlos

I'm halfway done and debating whether to put up parte uno, but after readiing Carlos' conflict of conscience, I had to give my two centavos' worth. I've been to Spain, and seen a small town bullfight. I am not a healer by profession, but I have reverence for animal life and the life it gives those of us higher up the food chain. I am reminded that when I walked outside the bullring's grandstands I saw the dripping remains of a butchered bull. Shocked at first, I then thought how much more dignified a way to die than getting bludgeoned to death by a mallet in a stockyards stall. He had a chance to shine and to die defiantly...a fight to the death as it were, valiant and brutal, just as a bull would deserve.

LOL! Enjoy it for me Carlos. Now I have a craving...

Urban- Didn't Mariano tell Rocio this episode that he can come live in his house when it's finished? I certainly hope she doesn't move in MQ. It would be kind of awkward after accusing the former owner of rape. Plus, she's the one who didn't ever want to set foot in MQ because she's so angry that Don Dan never returned her feelings (of course, that hasn't stopped Gussy).

Best part of the weekend recap--the title; always amusing!

Vivi, you lived in Haiti are you Haitian or were you just visiting? I was born and raised there; I left there when I was 15--still have some distant family--

Myo-

I doubt that the developers had any interest in preserving the natural beauty of this area. Remember that they were ready to begin excavating the second Hissadora attempted to take possession of the property.

The ranch might not be an actual historic building but it looks like it is respectful of the history of the area and it must provide other work for profit. Raising fighting bulls is prestigious, but I doubt it is profitable by itself. The property must also be involved in profit-making businesses that are likely to be food-related. Calves that don't pass the test are likely raised as beef and the cows not chosen to breed fighting bulls are probably used as dairy cows.

The size of any property required for this combination of businesses would be large enough to build a small theme park on. Think about how much energy that would suck up and how much waste it would produce with the tourist traffic envisioned by our devil and his minions. Not to mention how that would disturb the other ranches in the area.

Vivi, pass the nutcracker. I'd like to tear into a lobster right now!

Vivi, I posted before seeing your question. I think Mariano did issue that invitation to Rocio and I know he wanted to finish that house fairly soon.

If I were Camila I wouldn't allow Rocio to set foot on any of La Malquerida after her attempt at defaming Tio Daniel.

We had two interrupted honeymoons in this series so far; does anyone envision a third?

Myo- Zanmi mwen! M' pa Aysien. M' te viv nan Ayiti pou de zan pou Corp de la Paix (Peace Corps/Pisko). But that was 13 years ago.

This has been a great conversation - too bad we are not actually in the same room face to face!

Being a vegetarian, I wasn't wild about the theme from the get go. However, I put on my magic beanie and just try to have respect for other cultures whether I agree with them or not.

I am with Carlos in preferring the theme in CME - wine! I both live and work in the wine country and had to bite my tongue at the wine-making "missteps" made in CME. They were easily forgiven in light of the excellence of the story/actors.

Back to AB: don't you think that with all of the troubles and stress that Pab/Luz are having that New Girl will be making a come back?

Vivi, mwen pale kreyol men mwen paka ekri li tre byen paske mwen kite peyi pweske 30 ane de sa.

God bless you and your work with the Peace Corps--people like you that make the world a better place.

Merci!

Myo- Kreyol pale, kreyol komprann! I loved my time there and lived in the Central Plateau (in Sodo) working with farmers. I plan on a visit next year.

"fossilized and fleece worthy..." that's exactly how I view Cayetonto -Jardinera, you have such a way with words that delight me ---

Vivi, if you permit me one more question --where did you stay? Port-au-Prince or the country sides? My family is originally from the South --Aux Cayes--I was born and lived in PAP.

Myo- I answered your question before you even asked. Sodo is the most sacred voodoo site in all of Haiti, so each July I got to witness thousands of pilgrims coming to my town for Fet Sodo. Fascinating and fun. National Geographic did a whole feature years ago on Fet Sodo, and the book "The Serpent and the Rainbow" was about it. Most of the volunteers lived in the South Department, so I had the chance to visit Aux Cayes a few times.

Myo- Just to orient you a bit more-- Sodo is ten miles from Mirabalais. So although it's in the Central Plateau, it's not close to the department capital of Henche.

1) You guys are amazing with figuring out these fancy titles. I’m clueless, what on earth does “hammy gams” mean?

2) As far as fighting bulls, I don’t like it or any type of fighting among animals or humans, (boxing included), even if it’s legal. Years ago I was stationed in a country (which I won’t name because of its lovely people), where rooster/cock fighting was legal and very popular. It was very upsetting to me how anyone could support that type of torture. The whole family would turn out from grandma to tiny tot to see the show. That definitely was not my taste.

Not too long ago when a big sports figure got busted for running a dog fighting operation in Miami. He had lots of support from fans and supporters. Fortunately, the sentencing judge wasn’t impressed.

3) Vivi, thanks for all the examples of “apachar”. I’ve added it to my vocabulary list.

re your comment: “play your parents against each other, your mother is likely a lying ho like mine, and take your dad for all the money and gifts you can get”. For those of us less able to understand what we are hearing, I’m glad you clarified that Yago’s words to Nat weren’t quite that mean and hateful.

4) Cathyx thanks for clarifying the purpose of the bottle switching. I shouldn’t admit this but it’s especially for those of you who haven’t had a good laugh for today. I thought that Mariano was being overprotective and didn’t want Pablo to get high. Based on that I assumed he was switching bottles because his (Mariano’s) had less in it. The really funny part is that I took it a step further to lecture Mariano that if Pablo is old enough and man enough to get married, he certainly can handle a whole beer :- )

Back to AB-- Great part 1. Loved your riff on Camila being greedy with the men. Although I bet she'd give up Dio in a heartbeat. Of course he won't give up on "mi" Camila. Gross!

One more thing: I'm getting more and more angry at El Diablo's presumption that Camila belongs to him. However, it's not as creepy as CE's villain in the rerun Abrazame Muy Fuerte currently on UniMas in the mornings.

Don't forget the other 'pa' in apapachar Foxy. That's part of the fun of saying the word.

Foxy- I thought the exact same thing with the beer bottles. Then later when they showed Mariano taking a shot I thought maybe he took Pablo's beer bottle because it had more in it for him. I thought Mariano's alcoholism would be a whole new plot line. Glad it was just for a DNA test.

Vivi we posted at the same time; Sodo is a beautiful place, you're fortunate to experience the sacred tradition. I remember the movie from long ago and it was somewhat a good portrayal of the voodoo practice. Although I'm catholic, I know of and attend some sceance; my family knew some voodoo priests and mambos.

The last time I was there was back in 1989 when my mother died--we're taking a family trip this coming July. My brother who was there over Xmas is telling me things (highways-infrastructure) have changed considerably now--a lot easier to get around the country. If you don't know Jacmel yet you should visit next time you there and also Croix-des-bouquets-I remember was a lovely place.

Myo-

I forgot to include a question about Cayetano in my above “dissertation”. I also noticed all the screen time that was giving to his facial expression. Here I go again with one of my assumptions, but I thought that this old guy was of the old fashioned generation where a gentleman pursued a lady especially for sex. In that case, he would find this quite brazen coming from this “sweet helpless lady”. He might not be able to perform under these circumstances. He would’ve been more comfortable if he felt he had charmed her with his sex appeal. Just saying ….

Thanks for the first part Jardinera, I really like that you do this in 2 parts for the weekend. Since it's longer until we get the next episode, it helps to make the time go faster this way.
I actually thought the hotel where Rocio was staying looked upscale. That shows you what kind of hotels I stay in when I travel, lol.

I for got about the conversation Dion had about Abraham. I'm concerned that this will be how Dion stops the wedding.

Foxy, gams are a woman's legs. Hammy is short for hamstring, the muscle that runs behind the thigh.

cathyx,

I'm guessing that by "hammy"
that Jardinera was referring to Isadora's legs and meant...well...hammy.

And shame on her for that.

Carlos

Carlos, do you mean hammy as in a ham you eat or hammy as in overtheatrical?
Knowing Jardinera, she meant all three.

Parte dos is done. Enjoy!

Thanks, Jardinera for another great recap!

Dan has never looked cuter than when he was holding that gorgeous bouquet of roses.

The little hand signal to Vivi while smooching on Camila was awfully cute, too.

I think Mariano is wise to stay away from a situation that he knows would only torture him.

I loved seeing Don Vincente and the lip synching didn’t bother me in the least. In a concert situation, it would bother me for sure, but this is a tv show on a tight production schedule. Lousy sound quality would have bothered me a lot more.

Carlos, I agree with you about the moral dilemma of bullfighting. I went to a bullfight in Mexico once and was pretty disgusted by it. I am glad I went once, though. It did give me insight.

I actually feel torn about the whole inheritance of the ranch. The class system in Mexico is based on land ownership. We can criticize the snobbery of individuals all we want, but the real problem in Mexico is not mothers opposing their sons choice of brides, but that the ownership of land and therefore wealth and political power is concentrated in the hands of very few. Camila is a very nice person, but to have one or two persons owning all that land and to have so many others in essentially the role of serfs, however nice she may be to them, is not something that I support. I know that it is a cultural difference and I don’t think I have ever met a Mexican of any social class that doesn’t agree with me on this, at least in broad terms, but here we are, watching a TN and cheering for the status quo.

I’m with LoriLu and everybody else who is just trying to have respect for other cultures, whether I agree with them or not.

Thanks Jardinera! I picked the right time to check in, the recap is fab! LOL on how Isa should've gotten the paperwork signed before tempting Cayetano. Especially thanks for clarifying what Vicente F was saying because I was having a really hard time understanding him. I thought the story they used was kinda slapped together, but I loved the serenata, so I'll buy it. Speaking of which, I haven't seen un galan trae una serenata a su amada in a while. Have I just been missing these or are they really not showing up as much as things get more "modern"?

Foxy-I think Caye's willing to overlook any brazenness bc Isa's hot, significantly younger than him, they're both beyond their virginal years, and, most importantly, all the attention's on him (if she were brazenly throwing herself at some other rancher, I'm sure he'd have a lot of unflattering things to say about it).

I agree that Dan is adorable with his adopted "sisters". I'm glad they have some good fraternal if not paternal influences around. The writers really seem like they're setting Pablo up to get himself in trouble. Kudos to them for putting the pieces in place in advance, I guess.

Sorry Annin NYC, I'm with the others. I love when Cami does that and CdlF is so strong!

I was worried that Os's heart was going to get broken again, but looks like Amanda's thinking about him differently. Sure wouldn't know it from her actions though, she still treats him like a friend. Well, hopefully we'll get there.

Jardinera, good stuff and worth waiting for.

Rosemary, remember when Cayetonto demanded that Pablo be brought back from his honeymoon for a DNA test? Mariano would never have let him do that. He would have found a comb or hairbrush with some strands in it or something else. It was Cayetonto's dumb luck that Pablo and Luzma came back early for an unrelated reason.

The switching of the beer bottles doesn't get missed by anyone who's watched too many episodes of Law & Order. Mariano might be depressed over not getting Camila for himself, but he isn't irresponsible. Alcoholism isn't in his future.

Dio and Isa are the villains you love to hate. They were having a good time, especially when Dionicio said, "... anything can happen in six months, including you getting married and becoming a widow." And then that evil laugh!

Dan is just too good for words! He remembered from his earliest encounter with Camila how much she loves flowers and keeps surprising her with them - all kinds of flowers, all colors, in all combinations and situations ... sigh!

Loved how Isa instantly went from bragging evil w(b)itch to innocently, defenseless, sweet victim as soon as she noticed Cayetonto, then smirked in Rocio's face afterward.

Argghhh, Natalia, ya basta! I can understand her confusion about her sperm donor, but her experiences with Iago, I mean, come on! Maybe she is so in love with him because he was her "first" (and only) and she's convinced herself that he did it for love, like she did. She was so smart and level-headed at the beginning of the TN and now her naivete is bordering on stupidity! She is so NOT going to make the Scooby Hall of Fame!

Rocio saying her life has no meaning without her husband and sons ... will she try/fake suicide to get him back? Hmmmm

Love Vicente, but the way he came on the scene was soo cheesy (IMO)! I enjoyed it, though.

Jardinera- I loved Part 2, especially your description of Isa nearly killing Caye with her strip tease. He is such a goner.

Foxy- Since Jardinera didn't go into the details, and I wouldn't want you to just have my snarky version on their conversation, here is the transcript from the Nat-Yago conversation for Gato Viejo's site:

Yago: But regarding your dad, I wouldn't be so sure of what your mom and daniel are saying. Moms lie as well to get off easily of their mistakes, just like mine did.
Nat: That's right, although, honestly, my mom has always been a good person, yago.
Yago: I thought the same about my mom, and look.
Nat: I'm so confused.
Yago: Look, natalia. If I were you, instead of crying and trying to come to the truth, I don't know, you'd better take advantage of the good things your dad can give you, I wouldn't reject him--
Nat: But--
Yago: No buts, let you parents fight and solve their own problems and you enjoy all good things your dad can give you, luxuries, trips, money, a princess life.
Nat: No, yago. That would be accepting him just for interest.
Yago: What's wrong with that? Let him give you what he never did. And stop being so sentimental and dramatic, you better be pragmatic. That's the only way not to suffer for other's mistakes.
Nat: I don't know, I don't know if I can act that way because I didn't have that education.
Yago: No, no, it's clear to me that the education you got from your mom was based on lies, just like mine.

Jardinera thanks for the recap, another gem. It was LOL moment when you were chastising Isa for trying to kill Cayetonto while disrobing!

Vivi - thanks for your two renderings of the Iago/Nat conversation. If she listens to this horrible advice from a man-whore no less (sorry but he's so slimy) it will be a true set-back for her character.

Loved Dan in the gold charro suit though I also enjoy him in other outfits or less ;)

While I'm disgusted by Dio's delusions about Cam, a part of me wants to see him try to approach her to see how she will react. Will she laugh or just be so appalled that he is demoralized? SN would great in either scenario.

It would be awesome to have Camila laugh (guffaw, in fact) at Dionisio's advances, then, "oh! you're serious? (HAW, HAW, HAW) perdon ... (HAW,HAW,HAW) ... no, really, (HAW,HAW,HAW) ...." she doubles over, holding her stomach while camera zooms in on his affronted face .... and, scene! LOL

OK, Iago still doesn't get a pass from me about this.

Amanda lied about Natalia's father to protect her. Rcio lied about Don Daniel to protect herself.

I doubt that El Diablo would be demoralized so easily. He has already managed to get past the accusations about putting the hit out on Daniel in Chile. They don't yet have concrete evidence of that. He rescued Camila from the charging bulls but they can't prove yet that he and Hissadora are accomplices in this whole land scheme. Francisco Javier saw them kissing, but he has zero credibility.

Did Alonso tell Camila about that?

Brava Jardinera! Brilliantly funny. I had an old dear-departed friend and appreciator of the female form (¡QEPD!) who always said that "gams" were named for Rita Gam, a sort-of B actor of the last century known for her good-looking legs. Not sure if this is true, but that's how I know what gams are. As for "hammy", notwithstanding the opinion of our dear Carlos, I would agree with you that Isadora is a B-I-G gal. And those gams gotta lotta meat on 'em. I'm not small either, so it takes one to know one. —Agnes in NJ

UA - No, I don't think Alonso mentioned that to Cami. Did he even know? I know he suspected, but was it ever confirmed?

I'm sympathetic to Nat on Dio, but I agree that it's past time she started looking past Iago. Looking at her characterization throughout the novela, though, I'm not that surprised. She grew up believing this fairy tale about her dad and love in general and now she thinks Iago is the rich handsome prince that will sweep her away from the problems of her past. She grew up thinking that you give your virginity to someone you love who loves you back and now she's trying to make her situation match that image in her mind. She's exactly what Iago said she was when they first starting seeing each other: a good girl. Just like at work, she jumps to please, thinking that good things happen to good people and she tries so hard to be good that her boyfriend, the man she gave her body to, can't be a jerk, and her dad, who she's dreamed of for so long, can't be the mobster monster everyone says he is. I wouldn't want to believe it either. She and Gussy need to see each other's relationships. Maybe seeing the crap the other person is putting up with will make them look at their own situations more clearly.

LXV- I don't know, I don't think I'd called Isa a BIG gal. She's a little thick around the middle and bum, but for a woman in her midforties and a in her culture, I think she's spot on with her body. I'm sure most people would agree with me in saying thatshe's gorgeous. I can only hope to look so good when I'm 44. Of course, a lot of it has to do with confidence, and LC has spades. She works those curves in a way that totally highlights her sensuality. If I was half as comfortable in my body, I'd strut my stuff in some animal print minidresses too...ok,maybe not animal print:)

Bullfighting is pretty distasteful to me as well, with my American sensibilities. (But then I think American football is brutal too.) I do recognize that it's appealing to other cultures. A couple of years ago, I took the bicycle tour of Bogota in Colombia and we went inside the bullfighting ring. (It was off-season.) What made the biggest impression on me was seeing a fancy hi-rise condo built in a U-shape around the ring to take advantage of the views. If they did that at MQ, they could have tourism and bulls.

Aleta

Thanks for the rest Jardinera. Isa doesn't even pretend with Rocio. Love this line:
Shy and deny is not in this chapter of the Issadora Roba-maridos Rulebook.
She has no compunction to just put it out there now. She is taking her husband and her house. How long will it take for Isa to put the tourist development into action on this property? Will the ink on the paperwork have time to dry before she has bulldozers on the property? Why wait once she owns it?

Who thinks that Caye and Isa actually will have sex? If I were to go by the look on Cayetano's face, I would guess no. But Isa is a such a seductress, it's hard to say if she can lure him beyond her showing her naked body. He had that look like he new he had erectile disfunction and he wasn't sure how he could get out of this situation tactfully.

Lipsincing (sp?) the theme song? I wouldn't think they would do it any other way. He's in front of the hacienda, with no sound equipment visible and no microphones, of course it's not a live performance. The editing department could have done a better job with it though.

I wonder what it will take for Natalia to snap back to reality. What can Yago do that would be even worse that what he's doing now? I can identify a little with her. I've known a few jerks like Yago.

Also, my mother, much like Amanda, lied to me and told me that my father had died when he really hadn't. I knew all along that she was lying, but I didn't want to cause her any more grief so I never asked any questions. She was an unwed mother who parents had given her a one-way airline ticket to Alaska. Yes, sometimes real life is like a TN!

Aleta

Anonymous - Yago will have to kiss Vivi (or NG, if it ever comes to that). I would LOVE to have him Vivi a la fuerza. After dealing with Bruno, she would kick his a$$ into his next novela and it would be AMAZING.

Aleta - Wow, just saw the rest of your post. Sounds like you handled a complicated situation amazingly well and that you and your mother really made a tough situation, well, life. Kudos to you, I don't know that I would have the grace to not question my mother.

Maybe Isa will act all innocent and embarrassed about Caye "inadvertently" watching her disrobe and pull the "not until we're married" act. She'll make herself blush and hem and haw, "Oh, no! What you must think of me! I thought I had closed the door! Oh, please, please, leave ... I'm so embarrassed ..." etc and the old fool goat will fall for it.

HellaShelle, When I say Leticia Calderon is big, I mean nothing derogatory. I completely agree with you; she is a drop dead gorgeous woman who wears her "wealth" with confidence and panache. We should all be so comfortable in our own skins. I am practically old enough to be her mother and have been big all my life. I admire anyone who can pull it off. And as for the role she plays here, I doubt a skinny-minnie would have been as convincing or compelling. She's a thrill to watch; her sheer physical presence holds the screen. —Agnes in NJ

Agnes,

For the record, I think that Isadora has perfectly lovely legs,

and cathyx,

I'm sure that Jardinera meant hammy in the most delicious sense of the word.

Carlos

Though both Isa and Dio think too highly of themselves, I think she has a better grip on herself with regard to men AND she chooses her prey very well. Whereas Dio may have been the man in the past, getting poor gullible Gussy was not hard. It is completely delusional that he thinks Cam would be his based on so many factors - he married her mother, this TN has several good looking and kind hearted younger men, he's a lying liar who lies and murderer, etc. I just don't want him to resort to force.

I would not put that past him if the situation arises. Despite the notion of keeping an eye on him it would be in Camila and Daniel's best interests to get him off the property yesterday.

At the very least they should put him and his stupid wife out of the master bedroom and claim that for themselves. It is unseemly for them to live full-time in the cabana now that they are the undisputed owners of the property, especially with Pablo and Luzma now in the hacienda.

Luzma may be in no immediate danger from El Diablo, but Pablo is.

Karen: Yes, I do think that Camila will be the achilles (SP?) heel /tragic flaw that undoes Dionisio Ferrer! He's lost all good sense to think a mentally well adjusted female would fall for him after he's married her mother.
==========

As for Leticia, she's gorgeous and carries her role as well as her weight very well, though I choose to believe that the additional weight was part of the "costuming" to give the effect of being an older, more matronly type. She started slimming a bit once "her son" died. Now, Isssadora is indeed playing the role of her life in this high-stakes poker game with Dio. (CathyX, you nailed it!) However, as a distasteful character, the image came to me of fat, meaty thighs for a greedy hog of a nasty, evil villainess. It was a rather low-brow expression () coming from a rather hi-brow recapper (je-je...er...Sorry, Carlos) and hails from the early to mid-1940's. Here's one official definition/explanation from word.detective.com:

"'All of which brings us to the third kind of “gams,” slang for a woman’s legs, especially if regarded as attractive. “Gam” in this sense probably reminds most people of the “noir” crime novels and films of the 1930s and 40s and the hardboiled patois of Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett and James M. Cain (“The gams! The gams! Your face ain’t news!”, Mildred Pierce, 1941). But “gam” in this sense is actually considerably older than Sam Spade, dating back to at least the late 18th century. And “gam,” which began as underworld slang, originally referred to the leg of either sex, and not necessarily an attractive one.

There are two theories about the origin of “gam” meaning “leg.” The shorter and more straightforward one simply traces it to the Italian word “gamba,” also meaning “leg.”

The other theory treads the same ground, but with a detour, tracing “gam” to the old word “gamb,” meaning the representation of a leg on a coat of arms, which comes from the French “gambe,” a close cousin of that Italian “gamba.” Interestingly, another form of “gambe” in French was “jambe,” which gave us our modern English word “jamb,” as in “door jamb,” the supporting side pieces of a door frame. The connection between a door “jamb” and the “leg” meaning of “gam” and its relatives may seem murky, but the “jambs” were named because they serve as “legs” supporting the lintel, the piece at the top of the door frame. Even a door frame, it seems, needs legs to stand on.'"

Glad you all enjoyed the read. Always makes our recapping duties most enjoyable. I had to LOL when I read the Little Blue Pills quip. Thanks for jump-starting my day!

I am guessing we'll have a boda-interruptus after Dio has returned that scoundrel Captn. Farca's phone call. I think that dream about Miriam having a baby might play into the reason. How many of you still think they'll write in keeping Miriam's brain-dead body alive long enough for the baby to be born? JMO when seeing that dream last week.

I definitely think Miriam is still alive or why would her name keep coming up?

Also, what is Abraham up to now? If she were brain-dead and only kept alive until the baby is ready to be born why is Abraham in hiding? There would be no reason for that.

Jardinera - Fantastic, from the title to the last drop.

On Cayetonto, I agree with those who think he's old-fashioned and doesn't intend to hit it with Isadora right now. I think that's what Isadora is counting on cause she's already got the old fart where she wants him so has no reason to bed him. She just wants to keep him in a heady, gullible state. On the other hand, he's been cuckolded and has a need to prove himself, so Issie better close that bathroom door.

On Camila's would-be suitors, I do feel Mariano is the kind of hopeless romantic who would be so in love with her without even a kiss. I should be annoyed with him, but I'm not cause he's so sweet and handsome clean-shaven. Dio's got feelings for Camila but I also think his need to best Daniel is also mixed in there.

Jardinera,

What a fun way to start the day! Great, snarky recap with a good discussion of the origins of gams (a common crossword puzzle word, by the way).

I'm wondering whether it will be boda-interruptus (inspried!) or luna de miel- interruptus( third times the charm, as someone pointed out yesterday).

I can't resist the bull-fighting discussion. Though I've been pretty much more interested in the bull-rearing than offended by it, bullfighting itself leaves me cold. I should say that seeing a bullfight in Spain on a 98 degree day, sitting in the sun (better tickets in the shade) also left me nauseated! I have heard all the arguments for from friends here and in Spain who think it's a sport in which the bull gets to strut his stuff before going down (as Jardinera said), but can't get there. However, many cities in Spain have banned it, so people there are split and respecting local customs and beliefs can go either way, depending on the locale.

Oh, and meant to say how much I enjoyed Vivi's discussion of the verb apapachar, a sweet word used often and well in this novela.

Something tells me that Camila and Daniel are both going to need a good dose of apachando very soon, not to mention our Luzma and Pablo.

Jardinera, many thanks for another of your great fixes for my weekend addiction.

Vivi: Thanks for deciphering the Nat: Yago conversation. That was terrible. Up until this latest family crisis when he turned on his mother, I attributed most of his mannerisms to “middle child jealousy”. That conversation clearly exposes his evil side. I am officially done with him.

UA: you said “Amanda lied about Natalia's father to protect her. Rcio lied about Don Daniel to protect herself”.

Although the 2 scenarios are very different, Amanda’s lie was also to protect herself (from Dio’s brutality).
Roccio’s lie resulted in Pablo being raised by a loving man who he thought was his dad. Amanda’s lie prevented Nat from having the influence of a male in her upbringing. IMO that’s at least part of the reason Nat is confused and why she’s looking for love in all the wrong men”.

Ooooh! Looking for love in all the wrong men. Yago is materialistic and has been from the start. I think maybe Nat is turned on a tad by the fact he's a spoiled rich boy and nothing more. Why, maybe even Amanda was attracted to Dio back before by his nasty traits as much as his charms....JMO.

Foxy- I thought that lie Urban was talking about was the rape lie, not the lie by omission the last 20+ years about who Pablo's dad is. I actually totally understand Rocio deciding to keep quiet about Pablo’s paternity to preserve/repair a marriage and a family. I see this first lie as equivalent to Amanda's first lie about Nat's dad being dead and a good person.

Where the two women are different is how they reacted when their old lie was revealed (Amanda revealed hers directly to Nat, while Rocio's was revealed for her). Amanda came clean and told the whole truth about the situation. Rocio added more lies that would harm other people (the rape lie hurt Don Dan’s reputation, Camila, and Pablo had he found out). Yago is basically telling Nat that her mother is likely lying about the reasons why she told the original lie (fleeing a bad man she was married to and she believed to be a criminal), just like his mom came up with the rape lie to cover her original lie about Pablo's paternity.

Ho hum, another fabulous, wonderful, delightful, insightful recap, Jardinera. You've really spoiled me!

I've got so many faves from this latest gem, but most have already been commented on by others. Even so, I want to say that I especially enjoyed "(Damn, woman! The way the old dude’s gasping for air, you should have made sure the transfer of ownership paperwork was signed first!" and "Shy and deny is not in this chapter of the Issadora Roba-maridos Rulebook." And I agree with your taking Camila to task for playing dumb with Mariano. I cheered at "nix the naivete, toots!"

I like anonymous's senario about Isa claiming dismay that Caye saw her naked in the mirror, if she even acknowledges that he did see her. She could be just wanting him to get a glimpse of the goods to jack up his fantasies. My eyes are not ready to see the fartcicle (love that term Jardinera) in a sex scene.

It's true; Rocio lied to protect her own rep and compounded the lie with another one. She knew that Cayetano would throw her out on her arse for keeping quiet for so long. What surprises me is how she could keep that secret so long, particularly as it interfered with their interaction with the Monterdes in such a small community. That makes no sense.

The ink won't be dry a minute before Hissadora goes running to Estevez with a deal she might try to cut El Diablo out of. I honestly think she is more cold-blooded than he is.

Urban: I do believe you've got a great and worthwhile hunch about La Viuda Negra Araña de Lazcano's next moves.

I also like the thought that Issa will play coy and avoid crawling into bed with El Tonto.

Urban- Remember that Rocio made Caye move them to the city before Pablo was born and they mostly stayed there until recently, after Don Dan died. She made sure their engagement with the neighbors was very limited after she and Caye got back together.

For those interested: The HPLP list will be posted tomorrow. I accidentally saved the doc in a Word version that my home computer can't open.

Nanette

No prob. I'm not going to say why but your lists for the coming week will be incredible.

Nanette- I'll be waiting impatiently for your high points and low points.

I think Nat wants the "fairy tale" that Pablo and Luz got.

I don't care about the culture or history--injuring animals for sport is wrong. Injuring animals, period, is wrong. Mini-rant over.

Flaco-you idiot :)

I've known a few Nats in my day. In fact, I was sort of like her. She grew up without a father and she's unsure of herself around the opposite sex. She's shy and boys that she was interested in in highschool were not interested in her and never new she existed. Then Yago comes around expressing interest in her. She never thought that a guy like Yago would ever be interested in her, someone she regards as handsome, upperclass, and popular with the ladies. And she wants to believe he's the real deal so badly that she's willing to forgive and believe what he tells her, no matter how foolish it seems to us because she always dreamed of this big man on campus falling for little country mouse like her. It takes a lot of getting hurt over and over before she will see that he isn't worth it.

I've known a few Nats, too. She has also repeatedly compared Yago and herself to Pablo and Luzma, so that is definitely part of the problem.

I think her behavior is also a bit like a woman who is seeing a married man and think that he will leave his wife for her, when in reality that is never going to happen.

In either case, it takes time and pain for them to see the light. I think Nat's situation may drag on quite a bit longer, unfortunately.

I feel bad for poor, pitiful Naive-talia. I wish she would get over Iago and fall hard for Rodolfo, only to finally have Iago wake up and realize he's actually in love with her, but it will be too late for him. Well, anything's possible in TNs, isn't it? (Except that this one is probably too well-written for that.)

Anon 7:07: I don't mind Iago being taken down a few pegs--no matter how they do it.

I think some of these assessments of Nat are right on target. I’ll go with the “it’s time to dump Yago” team after the terrible way he assessed both of their situations. My grandmother always said watch how a man treats his mother and that is a good indication of how he views women. If he has no love or respect for his mother, chances are he won’t have any for you. I took her advice and was always turned off by guys that dissed their mother.

I'm not out of patience with her yet as far as her confusion with her father is concerned. Lot's of family stick by their criminal relatives longer than you or I would. ie: Jails and prisons are packed on visiting days with relatives who can't dump them and move on for whatever reason.

Jardinera, thanks for one of the best parts of my weekend. I seemed to miss quite a few tidbits in this episode so I am grateful that you filled me in. One example of a good laugh I missed the first time around while watching: "Mariano assures him that their dad will see through anything Isa might have in mind."

Even though Rocio and Cayetonto moved away for awhile, I find it unlikely that Don Dan had never heard about Rocio's late in life blessing de Pablo. Wouldn't that be something that would have given him a little pause for thought?

Carlos, "I have a major problem with and disgust for bull-fighting and yet here I sit each evening rooting for those who raise the bulls to sacrifice in that brutal spectacle"
Me too. I really hate it when Camilla gets all misty-eyed and waxes poetic about the courage and valor of the bulls. As if they had a choice. Honestly, I have to firmly close my mind and not think about it as I go about my merry way and enjoy the rest of this TN. Thankfully, in reality, it seems bullfighting is a cultural tradition that seems to be (too slowly) disappearing.

Did Vicente Fernandez ever actually make a movie with a Miss World there?

I wonder if they'll have Cayetano standing there staring at MQ saying he cared for his father and met an abogada and primos there. (Destinos)

I don't know much about bulls, but perhaps they have their horns for a reason, because violence is a part of their nature.

In New Mexico, I once observed (from far away with binoculars) a bull elk taking over a smaller bull's herd. The bull taking over had the most impressive set of antlers! Fortunately, the small bull turned tail and ran off, abandoning his herd of cows and calves. Wild Kingdom was never one of my favorie shows, so I was glad not to see it played out in real life.

Aleta

The list is too long this time. I'll have to post it in two parts:

Highpoints:

Pablo and Luz honeymoon montage.
Pablo plans a perfect night for Luz.
Dan’s and Cam’s ability to discuss their previous significant others without jealousy.
Dan’s heartfelt talk to Miriam.
Pablo supports Luz’s decision to keep the baby—if she chooses to. I love Pablo.
Nice little Vivi/Rafa moment.
Dan encourages Cam to mend fences with her mother because Gussie is going to need her when Dio is unmasked (another instance of his awesome treatment of women, thinking of Gussie as well as Cam).
Cam is not allowing Dio’s having saved her life to blind her to who he really is.
Dorotea snooped and read the letters and then shared them with Piedad.
Cam makes up with Gussie. A really nice scene.
Piedad’s got her thinking cap on. She keeps the letters to protect Pablo.
Isa outs Rocio to Cayetano re: her being a rape victim.
Cam comes to her uncle’s defense (which we all knew she would).
Chayo gives info to Dan to follow up on.
Cam finds out about the letters.
Mariano apologizes to Cam for dissing her uncle.
Pablo. Nothing else needs to be said except he’s the star of the Highpoints list, always.
Hipolito is the new chofer.
Everyone in the town feels comfortable telling the Padre their troubles.
Padre’s advice, unlike most of the TN padres I’ve seen (except Father Bosco—MEPS-love him) is excellent.
Rocio gets outed and is told to leave.
Eluterio overhears some interesting bits of news.
Nana tells Snotty Bitch (I like this name for Rocio—thanks Kat) to shut up and take responsibility.
Yago slaps Ileana down when she disses Nat for being above her station.
Gussie tells Dio it’s her house when he gripes about her going into the study without knocking.
Nana tells Caye the truth about Pablo.
Yago shows surprising sensitivity regarding interrupting Pablo’s honeymoon.
Mariano stands firm with Snotty Bitch re: he will help her but she needs to stop lying.
Cam uses Natalia being Dio’s daughter and welcome in the house as a trump card in her argument for letting Pablo/Luz stay in the house.
Rodolfo gives wise advice to Nat.
Cayetano plays right into Isa’s hands without effort on her part by deeding La B over to her (see low point list).
Nana will be helping take care of Luz.
Daniel has a heart-to-heart with Nat about her father. He says she’s not obligated to love him just because he is her birth father.
Mariano decides to distance himself from Cam to better get over her.
Rocio accuses Isa of deliberately stealing her man and Isa doesn’t deny it.
Cayetano sides with Isa during Roc’s and Isa’s very embarrassing public cat fight.
Amanda is developing romantic feelings for Os—finally. Yay!!!!
Don Vicente sings.

Low Points:

Nat is still delusional about Iago stepping up and telling his family they are together.
Nat and Amanda continue to be estranged.
Rocio is angry because Cayetano escorted Piedad to the ceremony.
Cayetano confronts Rocio about her infidelity in front of their sons.
Rocio tells Cayetano that Don Daniel raped her.
Pablo’s and Luz’s honeymoon is interrupted by a baby crisis.
Cayetano’s hypocritical attitude about men/women relationships.
Dan dreams of Miriam and their baby girl—prophetic? (sad for Dan).
Rocio threatens Nana.
Rocio is a witch (with a capital B) and I can’t wait until Isa brings her down.
Luz and Pablo have to cut their honeymoon short.
Luz must be on complete bed rest.
Nat learns that Dio is her father for sure and now must decide who is lying to her.
Dio manipulates Nat.
Agustina continues to think Dio is a dios. She must conveniently forget that 90% of his treatment of her is bad.
Dio lies about his relationship with Amanda.
Mariano needs to stop telling Cam he wants to be more than friends. It’s embarrassing for both of them.
Agustina once again puts her men before children.
Gussie’s continued trust in Dio in the face of circumstantial evidence that’s something is up with him, is nauseating.
Though well meaning, Dorotea and Eluterio decide to keep vital info from Dan and Cam.
Cayetano can’t trust Mariano because Mariano is a caring person and wants to make sure is mother is alright?! What a D word.
Caye slaps Rocio and insults Nana. Go to it, Isa!
Snob Gussie doesn’t want Pablo and Luz in the house or for Pablo to have part of the ranch.
Isa’s about to get the ranch and do Mariano and Iago out of their inheritance.
Cayetano hands over the ranch to Isa for six months (Viewerville wishes we had been privy to seeing a scene of that). Low point for Mariano—not Caye, Rocio or Iago.
Rocio continues to avoid taking responsibility for the mess she’s made.
Dio learns Abe called (and Viewerville worries that he’ll learn something to stop the wedding).
Pablo is complaining about the situation with Luz and feeling like a mooch. Start of a rift?
Nat is losing intelligence points by the second with regards to Iago and Dio.

Augustina really burned my butt when she objected to Pablo getting a share of LQ. This is not only not her decision to make she doesn't even get a vote! Nor is it El Diablo's, but we expect him to be arrogant about this (or anything else).

I hope Mariano takes his father to court over handing the property to Hissadora.

Great list again Nanette.

Yago is an emigma. On the one hand he's a total jerk and treats Nat horribly, and on the other hand, he's caring about his brother's feelings and he's sweet to Anna.

I can't help feel that Pablo and Luzma are in the big house for a reason. Maybe to overhear or see something with regards to Dion. Otherwise, they would probably be in the servants area.

They're in the hacienda because Pablo is a Monterde; he just hasn't found that out yet.

Camila made this decision and she is the one with the most right to do so. Although Daniel was awarded the ranch in Tio Daniel's will it was to protect Camila from Alonso and El Diablo.

What needs to happen now is confirmation of the connexion between El Diablo and Hissadora.

Great list Nanette! Lots of good and bad stuff happened this week, but our boys really shone this week- Dan and his advice to his little sisters; Pablo being the sweet understanding husband (even if he admitted how hard it is); and Rodolfo stepping up to the plate to be there for Nat when she needed him.

Although Mariano really needs to stop telling Cami about his feelings for her, I felt bad for him this week. He was really put in the middle of his family mess this week—stepping up to care for his mom and Refugio; forcing his mom to come clean and stop lying; trying to get Cayetano and Yago to see reason; and trying to protect Pablo while also getting a DNA sample from him. He’s going to have a heck of a time explaining it all to Ana when she gets back from her grandma’s.

By the way, I don't think there's anything wrong with Pablo admitting to Mariano what a strain he's under caring for Luzma, administering the ranch, AND feeling like a moocher living in MQ's big house-- also remembering that he is saving money in order to put Luzma through university. That's a lot for a 22 year old guy!

Yes, it is. I also recall him reminding his mother that she was younger than he is now when she married his father.

He is the most emotionally mature member of his family, including Mariano. Mariano will move back to that once he stops mooning over Camila.

Vivi: I agree with you about nothing being wrong about Pablo admitting to Mariano that he's having a difficult time. I'm just afraid it will make him vulnerable to outside forces, like NG. He's proved himself so far, but there HAS to be a reason NG was introduced and played her scenes with Pablo!!

I'm glad you liked the lists. When I got the warning that it was too long, I thought I might have overdone it. I was going in to edit it but realized I could post it in two posts, duh! I had reviewed it before posting and really didn't want to remove anything.

Nanette - Thanks. Didn't realize Dorotea and Eluterio decided to keep quiet. Dang.

Jardinera--Read everything with relish. It was a great recap. Great comments. Ann-NYC--I commiserate with you over Camila's leaps into Dan's arms (sometimes it looks as though he's not expecting it) and wraps her legs around him...mainly because I wouldn't be able to anymore and am envious of those who still can.

Flaco and Nanette--you two are so cute...

Nanette--Your fabulous lists keep growing. I will probably start another AMOR BRAVIO EXTRA just for your lists.

Everything else has been said and re-said.

On with the Wedding....I intend to attend and hope there's enough karma surrounding Dan 'n Cam to let them tie the knot before Dio and Abe cook up something to spoil it.

Nanette- Gussie continues to think Dio is a dios. Good one! Thanks for the list. I know Flaco was anxiously awaiting it.

Vivi your description of what all the tough challenges that poor Mariano has been faced with all week long just break's my heart. And to top it off, I care so much about how on earth he will explain this to Ana. (Thanks for reminding me that she's coming back). Ennyway ... let's hope that poor Mariano and Ana get their screen time on Friday's episode. That's the only hope we have of seeing FF>>>> through such boring content in the recap.

Cathyx, I found your very sympathetic portrayal/explanation of Natalia quite moving. I confess that I had lost almost all patience with her, but your account has helped me appreciate more fully where she's coming from. Muchas gracias.

Mariano is constantly getting on my nerves, with his so-called fantasy of Camila. He needs to get it through his head that Camila loves Daniel, not him. I still believe Miriam is not alive, I know Abraham is up to something but I don't know what it could be. Why is he calling Dionisio for?

Agustina gets on my nerves as well and I've lost all my patience on her. Loved the cameo by Vicente Fernandez, and I can't wait until tonight to find out what happens next. Hope Amanda doesn't have trouble with Dionisio at Camila and Daniel's wedding.

Nanette: Boy, you're right on target with those lists of yours. My favs are always the lo-points and my two LOL moments came from these--and especially the running commentary that accompanied them:

**Mariano needs to stop telling Cam he wants to be more than friends. It’s embarrassing for both of them.

**Gussie’s continued trust in Dio in the face of circumstantial evidence that’s something is up with him, is nauseating.

Jardinera: sometimes the low points are more fun--though I have to say I enjoy writing the highpoints Caye/Isa entries.

LXV- I never doubted that you think LC's attractive (who could deny that?), I was just thinking that I don't consider her big. Guess I'm not being objective though because I do take age into consideration with weight rather than just calling a spade a spade...or a hammy gam a hammy gam:)

I'm glad Nana's coming to watch over Luz and thatPablo told Mariano about hs frustrations. Maybe they'll be able to help him out if NG does reappear and turns his head.
