Por ella soy Eva #118 1/4/13: The Truth Is Out There, Helena, Don't Trust Mr. Sharkey or the Chupacabra
I'm a huge fan of the X-Files and it occured to me, watching this epi, that JC/Eva is sort of like Fox Mulder, looking for the truth, Helena is more like Dana Scully, she wants to beleive JC but she is stymied by Mr Sharkey (Pluti) and the sucking Chupacabra (Rebe) that just sucks the joy out of anything, even Pluti. This recap will not be in order.
So we had the Councilman that came to see Helena and tells her that nothing is being done at the Playa, they made an agreement, someone is playing dirty pool and he doesn't think it is Helena, but could be someone at G.I. Rebe hears the whole thing.
Rebe in her office, so gleeful, and she thinks it is time to get rid of Helena, but first she wants to ruin her. She is a Chupacabra after all. So she calls some press people I think, to set up a press conference on the star of G.I., the Playa.
Oh, look, Helena is meeting with the Cigarette Smoking Man, okay, okay he doesn't smoke, but he acts like him, Mr Sharkey, and Helena, who trusts everyone, but the one that really counts (JC) and she tells Mr Sharkey all about the Councilman's visit, she also called Fitsa, but gets blown off by the secretary who says the owner is away at the moment, but they'll get back to her, and Helena wants a firm time cause she has called before and noone has ever called her back! Pluti is like, don't worry your pretty little head, I'll check it out for you, I'll look at the contracts, not to worry. She wants to tell Adri what is going on, but nah, not so much for him. Do not tell Adri he tells her. Where are the Lone Gunmen when you need them? Too bad Fern, Santi and maybe Renato couldn't handle that, jus' sayin'.
Jacqui, one of the blue dresses, has come to see Santi, who isn't there. Jacqui tells Lucia that she heard some chisme bout Santi, and it ain't good. She was outside of Human Resources and heard them talking about how Santi is up to his neck in debt, he hasn't been to work, and horror of horrors, Santi could be let go/fired cause he hasn't paid back the loan he got from the company. Oh noes. This is Lucia's next rescue mission I think.
Daniel, the smarmy boyfriend, and Jennifer are at school, sucking face. Daniel tells her he'll do anything for her. She thanked him so much for finding her Daddy that job. He wants to show her he lurrvvves her, boo hiss. And by the way, would she do anything for him. Of course she would, the little crumpet, she lurrrvees him so much and they kiss, and while they kiss, he opens his eyes, and gives the little crumpet, the I'm hungry like the wolf look.
Oh, and here is Fern in his new morgue office. Wish he would throw pencils on the ceiling, but nah, he has made ANOTHER paper airplane on a stack of dead files. Who knew? Anyhoo, he is bored witless, already hates his job, and tries to get on the Internet, when in comes a guy with a HUGE stack of dead files. So Fern, being the slacker he is, asks the guy how do you get on the Internet, he's tried seven ways to Sunday and can't get on, is there a code, well, you get the drift. The guy tells Fern, No Internet For Youuuuu! Nah, but he tells him,at this company the only thing the computer is good for, is looking at the company's website, no Internet. So the guy dumps the files on Fern's desk, and they topple and fall on the floor. So Mr Slacker, who is sooo not happy, has to do some actual work!
Pluti does not want Helena to tell Adri anything, and lies to her, and tells her that Adri could demote her or worse fire her! Oh, noes. She thinks maybe she can tell Eva, but Pluti puts the kibosh on that, and tells Helena, yeah Eva is your friend, BUT she is Adri's finance and a shareholder, and the bottom line ya know. It is best if they solve this lil problem themselves, Ruh Roh!
So Eugenia is on the phone, with her agent, and asks him if he has heard from that young guy that called her, nah not so much. Genie wants to get back to acting and her agent tells her to be patient, it will come. Genie sees Claudia by the door and she tells Claudia to come in. Eugenia tells her she is so sorry her Mama Carmen died. Well, Claudia' s face is getting redder and redder and finally she blows. Claudia accuses Eugenia of being glad that Carmen is dead! Que, Que What??? And besides she is pithed at Eugenia for never telling her that Carmen was sick in the first place. Eugenia tries to get Claudia to understand that she did this to protect her, but Claudia so is not havin' it, oh noes. Just like Modesto, I must say. She Te Odio's Eugenia and she goes. Well, after this tiff, Genie is depressed and Chapina has to talk Genie into takin her pills. Genie does finally and says if it wasn't for these meds she would have gone completely crazy, and of course the snippy chippy Claudia hears all that. So a bit later, little miss snippy chippy, goes to Eugenia's room and pilfers some pills from each bottle and smiles like the evil chippy she is, and goes. So she comes back later, with a huge bottle of pills, and replaces all of Eugenia's prescriptions with these pills from the huge bottle. Sucks to be Genie!!!!
So Mimi was cleaning and got a phone call. She is lookin all around for that dang Blackberry and she finally finds it. It is Dagoberto of course, he would like the pleasure of her company at a little cafe. Don't go Mimi! But of course she does. She meets Dagoberto in a cafe,and he hasn't had the pleasure of seeing her since the day she went to jail. (Ed Note: The guy playing Dagoberto was Arnold in Famila, we loved him in that one, he is less than lovable here, jus' sayin'.) He tries to tell Mimi that he looked for her, after she got out of jail, to compensate her for all the harm he had done.
So in the meantime, Eva has come to the pension, trying to get Christian's attention, ya know Mimi's nephew, and has to throw something at him. Eva wants to know where Mimi is, and Christian tells Eva that Mimi had to go out somewhere, and Eva thinks it was with Maxine, so Eva doesn't give it another thought.
Meanwhile, back to Dagoberto and Mimi. She is so pithed. Mimi wants to know if Dagoberto looked for her to exploit her again and hurt her again, the way he did before? She said something about her Sainted Mama I didn't get, also that he ruined her chance of being a great singer. Dagoberto has actually asked her here for her to forgive him! He's changed. Dagoberto tells Mimi that after she went to jail he finally fessed up and that is what set her free. Mimi is surprised! Dagoberto wants to compensate her for all the harm he caused her, and Mimi is very pithed and tells Dagoberto, the only thing she wants from Dagoberto is to be left in peace! She goes.
Now we have Renato in Adri's presence, apologizing for not being at work. Adri completely understands and tells Renato not to worry about it. He tells Renato that he has become indispensible to Adri and the company, Renato is pleased! They go into a meeting that Rebe has called.
So we are in the meeting that the Chupacabra, er, Rebe is holding, saying that it is time for the draft of the Playa project and announces it will be the anniversary of G.I. to boot and there will be some international associates too, boy is Adri pleased. Helena looks like a deer caught in the headlights. When in comes Eva, prat falling all over the place, like she was leaning on the door and it accidently opened and she sure does a wonderful stumbling act like Rob Petrie did on The Dick Van Dyke show, jus' sayin'. Adri catches her in a big ole hug, lol and Eva aplogizes for being late. Sharkey Pluti is rollin' his eyes, and the Chupacabra looks like she wants to suck the life out of Eva. Rebe also tells them that she has called a press conference and that the representatives of Playa Majahua should be there, double Ruh Rohs. Eva can see there is something not right with Helena, and asks Helena what she thinks, and there is the Sharkey Pluti, jus' a givin' her the look, like don't tell, so Helena says it's a good idea of Rebe's.
So the meeting being over, Helena and Eva are in Helena's office and maybe Helena is finally trusting Eva enough to tell her what happened with the Councilman from the Playa and Pluti telling her not to tell Adri. Eva thinks she ought to inform Adri immediately, but Helena tells Eva she is afraid that Adri will demote/ fire her cause she wasn't able to fix the problem. Eva understands and promises not to say anything to Adri. Then Eva tells Helena she needs to make a decision about marrying Pluti. Well, Helena , she who refuses to beleive, tells Eva she made this commitment to Pluti, doncha know, and sure he made some little mistakes, but all these things will bring them closer to being a family, Que, Que, What????? Eva wants to know what mistakes and Helena tells Eva it ain't important. Eva is channeling JC with a smarmy grin on her face.
Now Mr Sharkey Pluti and Mendoza are in a meet in a restaurant, and they are going to move that plan to bilk G.I. into overdrive, in reference to the Playa project and Fitsa. So now Mendoza wants details about the fraud with the Playa. So Pluti tells him that Fitsa is a phantom company, duh, and that Pluti will make sure that this fraud gets blamed on Rebe. Pluti will make sure at the end of this fraud that G.I. will be completely his, Bwwaahhaa. So what is Pluti gonna do with G.I. it'll be in ruins. Oh, Mr Sharkey has some mis planes, doncha know when the company is his, but now isn't the time for those to be revealed. Mendoza is worried that Helena will start investigating when things hit the fan, but Pluti, being the shark he thinks he is, says no worries bout the little woman, I already have cowed her, er, controlled her and she won't be doing anything, doncha know. Mendoza estimates if things go the way Pluti says, in a few months, G.I. will be in ruins and the crap will hit the fan.
There is a little meeting in the hall of G.I. between Renato and Lucia. He tells Lucia his Mama died and Lucia is so sad for Renato. He asks her please, not to tell anyone cause he doesn't want all those condolences. She promises.
So back to horrid Claudia who is practically oozing evil and telling Eugenia she is going back to her music classes, cause she needs to get out of there. Remember she hates Genie so much. Genie understands that the music classes will help her with her grief, but the snippy chippy, nah, not so much. Anyhoo, Claudia goes and runs into Kevin. So in an effort to manipulate probrecito Kevin, she doesn't tell him that her Mama died, but does tell him that something happened to put Eugenia over the moon. Now Claudia tells the probrecito that now more than ever she needs Kevin to help her punk Eugenia!
So now we are on to Lucia's rescue mission. She has gone to Santi's apartment to find out what the h. e. double hockey sticks is goin' on with him. She bangs on the door, and it is opened by what looks like an exotic dancer, stripper, hooker, take your pick. The camera pans to Santi, who has his drunk on, yelling at the dancer, stripper, hooker to come back and Lucia is furious. The D.S.H. thinks that Lucia is the girlfriend and has come to give Santi grief. Both deny it at the same time, lol. Well, Lucia wants the D.S.H. to go, so Santi pays her, but Lucia gets it back and gives her some money and gives Santi back his money. The D.S.H. goes, laughing all the way. Now Lucia, I swear she is acting like the injured girlfriend here, lights into Santi! Lucia has taken Santi's bottle of booze and is berating him. Look at yourself, look what you've done to yourself, and because of that, you could lose your job, this stayin' at home, not working, my friend, well you get the drift. In other words, she is his friend and wants him to shape up already. She too goes and she ain't happy and Santi looks like he is finally waking up. Maybe.
So now Helena is at home with the Pluti shark as usual, he's wearing black, like the badhat he really is, and they are talking about the Playa project, the neverending woe of it, when Helena's cell phone rings. So Helena looks to see who it is, and of course it is JC. Well Helena doesn't answer and Pluti is all like, well who is it??? She says nothing important, and he is perturbed as usual, cause he wants to know who it is already! Here is where we end this epi!

Can't wait to hear who the Chupacabra is? My vote is bug-eyes Mendoza, Pluty's business partner. It could of course be Rebecca as she is definitely up to something with this press conference she is planning (I think I heard that right)
Helena, Helena, Helena, you sat there and did nothing when PLuty pretty much told you not to 'worry your pretty little head' over The Fitsa problem (correct me if I'm wrong on that). Your instincts told you to tell Adri about the Fitsa issue. And you didn't listen to your instincts.....(or your son the other day). WTF girlfriend???
This dude Dagobert looks like one of those subplots to extend the novella To pay Avon and all the other sponsors. We've got a ways to go for this novella. I think it goes 160 or 180 capitulos and we are at what, 122, but anvils are dangling on loose strings. Gertie

Yes Gertie, Fri was #122 of 166 caps. This is the stage where everything gets into position for the excitement of the final weeks.
Things are really going to start falling apart, aren't they? Eugienia is going to crack up, the Playa project is going to fall apart, GI is going to hit the skids!!!
Pluti is going to keep thing under control and Helena is going to keep right on trusting him.
Bottom line, Eva's going to have to keep on wearing all that AVON!

Thanks, Madeleine, for the recap! I loved the X-File comparisons. If some of our favorite characters don't smarten up soon, it is going to get very very ugly quite quickly. I worry for Eugenia.

Loved the recap -- and the X Files comparison.
I could just scream when Pluti manipulates Helena and she goes along. It looks like she did disobey Pluti & share her concerns with Eva. Gracias al Cielo.
I hate what is going on with Eugenia. What a little bitch that Claudia is. But... she's a teenager and from her perspective Eugenia is the one who stood in the way of her having a father and a family. Thank you, Madelaine. Rebeca as the Chupacabra. I love it! I confess I did manage to completely miss the X-Files, even though it is sort of my genre.
I enjoyed Eva's stumbling into the meeting. Graceful, she isn't. I still enjoy the schtick where she sits at Helena's desk and always manages to kick the other chair while Helena looks confused. For some reason it doesn't get old. Like her always pissing someone off by repeatedly asking, Que?
I agree with Julie from yesterday, introducing the Dagoberto story at this point is just distracting. But it did give Patricia Navidad a chance to play something other than hopelessly upbeat, and I thought she did a fine job of it. She was very believable, and I like the character so much I felt bad.

I especially hated what Claudia did to Eugenia. Messing with someone's medication is evil. I don't want to see Eugenia lost in a haze of confusion again, with Claudia there to torment her when it happens. Just thinking about it p*sses me off. Arrgg!

I love how Eva crashes into things! Jaime Camil is quite the physical comedian. I had completely forgotten about Rob Petrie until Madelaine mentioned him in the recap, but YES, that is totally the style.

Here's what I got from the Mimi/Dagoberto conversation (others can redact): Mimi said she met him when she was very vulnerable, her mother had just died and she was just starting out on her dream of being a singer. He tricked her and took advantage of her. When she was just getting successful, there was some kind of huge theft -- gate receipts? -- and she was blamed and went to jail because he disappeared with the money. She was only in for a few months, but the bad publicity ruined her career. Lucky for her her mami had taught her the make-up biz so she had something to fall back on.

She was released from jail when Dagoberto was caught, but he claims he turned himself in to save her. She actually looked like she was buying that for a minute, but I think she recovered her sense.

Thanks for what I missed with Mimi and Dagoberto. That Sinaloa accent sometimes is hard to understand and she was crying to boot. It was hard to hear what she said. Now I understand why she was so upset, the guy is a dirty rat! I hope JC helps her with this, if Dagoberto won't leave her alone.
Vivi- I too hate how long Pluti has gotten away with his crap, especially with Helena and Lalo. At least Lalo has now come clean about the cheating at school, but what boggles the mind is, why hasn't Helena dumped him yet???? He messed with her kid, and if I were her, I would have dumped him as soon as I heard it, cause if you get a kid to cheat, what are you doing at work???? She should have thought about that.
I love the looks on the character's faces here, especially Eva/JC. She/He makes the wildest faces, lol. I also like how sometimes Lucero is trying not to laugh, and she does it anyway, it is like she can't keep it in, when with Camil, and I just know this isn't scripted, it is ad libbed and so funny.

I too hope this pill switcheroo doesn't work at all, and I too think that JC and Renato would be in Eugenia's corner. Funny how Claudia is so much like Modesto, JC is like his Mama Eugenia and Renato is like his Mama Carmen. Claudia got the Modesto gene in spades.

Lucia did have the change, so she took 1000 back from the DSH, gave it back to Santi, and gave the DSH 200 pesos from her own money.
The only reason I mention it is because now Santi owes Lucia 200 pesos and she's just the person who might be able to motivate him to pay it back.

Also - Jarifa asked last week if the stuff that Univision censors is also censored in Mexico. The answer, as far as I know, is NO. In fact, the generally stinky FELS featured a scene of full-frontal male nudity (from a distance) as the Reyes brothers frolicked in the swimmin' hole. It was broadcast uncensored in Mexico and I saw it myself on Youtube, but everything was blurred out on Univision. (Honestly, you can't really see all that much when it's shot from such a distance anyway.)
In another one, I forget what it was called but Jaime Camil was in it, the Univision censors went crazy with the peepee and poopoo talk, which (as I recall) mostly had to do with puppies and small children.

Julie, thanks for answering my question on censorship. Things have gotten so loosey goosey even on network prime time tv here in the U.S. that I find it an interesting topic and surprising occurrence. It seems like Univision is giving the audience in the U.S. what they think it wants. Personally, I would prefer to hear /see what was originally intended. Everytime they cut out something that usually Rebecca says in this novela, I find myself wondering what was it that was said and how bad is bad for a word or expression to get cut. Living in the U.S., I as all of you know the few remaining hot button words that are always going to be cut. Is that same criteria that they are using or are they going beyond that? I guess I will have to learn to read lips and then I will be able to answer my own question.

Julie, lucky you, you have at least partially forgotten Camil's 2008 TN, the one that was particularly fecal-obsessed. I won't remind you of the title - that would be like reminding someone of an ear-worm song they'd managed to get out of their head.
Jarifa, I've seen Univision censor virtually any word that's remotely related to race (but only certain races) or gayness or poo or pee, etc. I think it's mostly an "abundance of caution" on their part but there's also the fact that certain words just have more political/emotional baggage in one culture than another.
Julie, your'e so right. It really gives one a lot to think about when learning about other cultures as well as languages.
