Por ella soy Eva #132 1/24/13: What Women Want

Juan has worked hard to prepare what he considers a very romantic event in the park for Helena.  She looks at him and flatly tells him he understands nothing.  Nothing.  She walks away.

Marcela is packing for her trip to Acapulco where she will be giving a presentation for GI's 25th anniversary party.  She asks Fernando to take care of the kids while she is away.  This is, of course, too much for him.  He complains that she is going off to have fun instead of taking care of them, and she tells him she will not allow him to bring her down.

Back at the pension Juan is ranting to Mimi that he doesn't understand women.  She scolds him not to generalize with his macho stuff.  He says women don't realize how they can make a man in love suffer (didn't Pluti say something like this a week ago?).  Adriano calls Eva and Juan rolls his eyes.  As Eva, she is very brusque with Adriano on the phone.  Adri lovingly says that that he is planning not to be separated from her for a second.  She says she doesn't want 24 hours a day with an octopus strangling her tonsils.  When he gets off the phone Mimi scolds him, "How is it possible that you complain about how Helena treats you but as Eva you treat Adriano even worse."  He shouts, "It's not the same thing.  He's a man.  I'm a man."  Mimi looks confused.  Eh?

Helena tells Silvia that Mad Dad thinks she deserves to receive alimony.  Silivia looks pensive and she agrees to it, but only on the condition that the money be put away for Lalo's education.  Helena thanks her and says that's not necessary, but Silvia would like to repay her for all the kindness she's shown her.

Santiago is naked in bed with last night's hook-up, and is incredulous that she wants to call him a taxi.  "Isn't this what men do all the time?" she asks him.  "Not me." he says.  Doesn't she want to get to know each other, see if they're compatible?  Not so much.

Yay!  Party time.  Everyone is gathered in the hall of GI as Rebeca tells them the arrangements for travel to Acapulco.  The executives are going by plane and the salaried people are going by car.  She makes a couple of more gay slurs at Renato (one gets censored) who she tells to go by car.  "What about Helena?" Pluti asks.  Oh, it's an oversight, says Rebeca, of course she's coming with us by plane.  Never mind, says Helena, I can take care of myself and will go by car.

At the hotel in Acapulco Rebeca tells Adri and Eva she has reserved the presidential suite for them.  "But I wanted a single room," Eva complains.  "I'm a respectable widow."  She wants to know if this was Adri's idea and calls him a pig.  She sends Rebeca to get her a single room.  Whatever.  Rebeca saunters off.

Modesto asks Claudia to choose between two boarding schools he's picked out for her.  Eugenia comes in and says she won't permit Claudia to be sent away.

Helena asks Rebeca if the councilman from Playa Majagua has arrived and where his room is.  Rebeca insinuates she's asking for a nasty reason and Helena says she is tired of Rebeca's offensive jokes.  Rebeca defends herself by telling her that sarcasm is a characteristic of intelligent people.

At school Fernando finds Daniel, who he treats like a second son, and pleads with him to help get him out of his job for a couple of days.  Ferni wants to join Marcela in Acapulco.  Daniel lights up when he hears this.  Por supuesto, he'll help Ferni.  And he'll take care of his kids as well.  What's that saying about leaving the fox in charge of the hen house?

Helena is at a table with the councilman.  He tells her that the construction continues without respecting what they agreed to, and the deadline to fix it has come.  She tells him that GI has put someone besides her (Mendoza) in charge of this.  The councilman doesn't trust GI- someone once tried to bribe him.  Who? Helena asks, and he tells her Plutarco.  Cara de impactada.

Modesto complains that he doesn't understand Eugenia's attitude.  Has she been taking her medication?  How insulting.  Eugenia is trying to make him understand that all Claudia wants is a place where she feels she belongs.  She warns Modesto that this is his last chance to behave like a real father.  Claudia is listening to the whole conversation.

The councilman tells Helena he didn't say anything because Pluto and Helena are engaged, but she quickly tells him that is over.  She promises to investigate whether Pluto was acting alone or if there was someone else behind this.

Rebeca goes to Pluti's room to make more of Helena seeing the councilman than is true, wondering why they are meeting outside the hotel when everyone else is here.  They are probably plotting against him.  Pluto tells her to go away with her stupid ideas, but he has that slack-jawed look to him when she goes.

Adri and Eva are walking poolside when Mendoza approaches.  Adri bristles.  He pushes back Eva's hand every time she goes to touch Mendoza.  When Mendoza leaves, Adri expresses his jealousy while Eva squeezes his lips closed.

Kevin tells his father about how Claudia only used him to play a joke on someone.  Father-of-the-year tells him this was a lesson that he ought only to let women fall for him, but that men need to control their feelings.  Really, first the hooker, now this.  Then Ferni again tries to use spit to squash down Kevin's hair.

Eva comes into Helena's room and is struck by how beautiful she looks.  Helena is sad at having allowed herself to be betrayed by Plutarco and by Juan Carlos.  She tells Eva that Juan still doesn't know if he is ready to have a real commitment, like all women want.  While Helena goes into the bathroom Juan curses himself for having missed something so simple.  Helena comes back and explains to Eva that is much more than just marriage.  It means trust and support, and more than anything it means being a good example for Lalito.  He is the most important thing in her life.

Adriano is demanding to know from Pluti why Mendoza is here.  Pluti tells him it's to gather information for the Playa Majagua project he's handling.  You're not jealous are you?  Surely Eva would never betray you.  But then Pluti taunts Adriano about Mendoza's reputation as a lover and tells him the flesh is weak.  Adri confesses that he and Eva have only been intimate once.  Adriano would die if Eva ever betrayed him.

Lucia comes into Helena's room and wants someone to zip her up.  Eva screams.  Why are you screaming, Helena asks, it's only us women.  They joke around and Eva calls Lucia dirty, a 'perpera.'  I tried looking it up.  Lucia didn't seem to know what it meant either.

Modesto tells Claudia she can stay with them instead of sending her off to boarding school.  She asks if that decision was his or if Eugenia pressured him into it.  He calls her on her eavesdropping.  She justifies herself saying that Modesto has never been around, not when her mother was alive and not now, and that he always put Eugenia before them.  Guess what?  He doesn't want to talk about it.  She's going to a normal college.

Rebeca calls Onesimo to find out how the break-in is going.  Onesimo has the code to Pluti's house and no one is around.  She bothers the Virgin once more not to let her body fall into the hands of a naco.  Onesimo opens Pluti's safe, and what do you know, there's the 3 million dollars Juan was accused of stealing.  Onesimo smells and rolls in the money, like he did with Rebeca's bed.  He counts it.  Yep, 3 million all right.  He puts it back, and on the way out he stops to pay his respects to Antonia's ashes, may she rest in peace.  Awww.  The guy does have some class.

It's time for the welcoming dinner to the big event.  Rebeca introduces Adriano, who calls up his beloved Eva to the stage.  She acts as though she's receiving a Latin Grammy Award, makes several brief speeches including the one where "Todas somos Mexicanas!" until Adriano unplugs the microphone and then shrugs as if he doesn't know what happened.

Pluti stops Helena and tells her (again) that he loves her.  She asks how that can be when he lies to her all the time.  He thinks she's still talking about the stuff with Lalo, for which he swears he did nothing wrong.  She tells him (again) that she doesn't want to discuss this.  Rebeca walks up and mocks, "Poor Plutiquito."

The kids are raving at home about Fernando's cooking.  It's much better than mom's and he ought to cook every day.  Dude.  Take the hint.  He tells them he's joining their mother in Acapulco and that they're to stay with their grandparents.  They complain that they're old enough to stay home, and Ferni gives in.

Rebeca is simultaneously insulting and flirting with Plutarco- no small feat- while Pluti is assuring her he will reconquista Helena.  Eva appears out of nowhere and jokes about something going on between the two of them.  They both deny it, but Eva warns Pluti that she is watching him.

The preparations for the 25th anniversary party of GI are being shown to us while Camil's "El Sexo Debil" is played.  At one point Santiago and Lucia smile at each other across the room, realize that there's chemistry there, and then there's awkwardness.  Eva poses for the paparazzi, comparing herself to an anorexic model.  Adriano welcomes everyone to the big event.  Let the sparks fly, and let the chips fall where they may..

Bill, this is a wonderful funny recap. So Helena is looking for commitment, so simple. Now JC knows, lets see what he does with that.

Loved Eva this whole epi, too funny. Liked her squeezing Adri's lips together and her speech, lol. She was funny with Lucia and Helena too when Lucia wanted her to zip her up, too funny.

Pluti will just never get it. I don't know how he thinks he can "reconquer" Helena, she is so done with him.Especially now that Helena found out from the councilman about Pluti's bribery attempt. I hope Helena finds out about Mendoza too.I'm glad too Helena didn't let on she found out about Pluti's bribery attempt to Pluti. That's really good.I like how she is gathering evidence against Pluti, and the questions about the thesis the other day were really good. She is finally catching him in his lies.
Loved Onesimo finding that money, but will he tell Rebe? He is in some danger here, especially if Pluti ever finds out he found it. Loved Onesimo talking to Antonia's ashes and telling her to rest in peace, how sweet.

Surprising that Eugenia told Modesto he wasn't sending Claudia off to school. She had tears in her eyes when Eugenia put her foot down with Modesto, but was still rude to Eugenia when Eugenia talked to her later. I hope really, that Eugenia and Claudia do have a good relationship in the end. The girl really needs some parental figure and it ain't Modesto.

Can't stand Daniel and now Fern, the idiot is leaving Jennifer and Kevin alone. You are right on Bill. I hope Daniel doesn't try anything and I hope Kevin sticks around Jennifer.

Bill, loved the screencaps too, you picked wonderful ones for this recap : )

Itha Bill, thanks for the detailed and illustrated recap!

I found Fernando's manipulation of Daniel to get time off from his job to go to Acapulco after he agreed to keep a good watch on the kids for Marcela and letting the kids talk him into leaving them home alone particularly pathetic and despicable.

Eva was the best posing and lecturing after Adriano introduced her and then at the end posing for the photographers. I know she was supposed to be doing the high fashion model pose with the hunched shoulders but it looked like a body builder pose to me.:)

I really liked it towards the end when Eva warned Pluterco about his harassing Elena and told him "I'm watching you." in English, Spanish and with her familiar gesture. Maybe she thought that if she used two languages and sign language he might really get it this time?

It was good hearing "El sexo débil"
worked into an episode. I looked for "perpera" too and found nothing--but it sure sounds like it should mean something.?

This was just such a fun episode!

Bill, awesome recap and screen grabs! We have a pic of Rebecca praying to the Virgincita and Pluti's classic 'duh-huh' !

I agree Mad, Helena is smart not to show PLuty her cards but to keep investigating and sharing with Eva. I think the two of them are capable of putting the puzzle parts together.

I can't believe Ferni might consider leaving his kids alone with Daniel. Even if Daniel was a good guy, it is so stinking disrespectful to his wife, his daughter, and to the family.

How many hours does it take to drive from Mexico City to Acapulco? Is it through a bunch of mountain roads?

Bill- You started us off right on this Acapulco adventure. Great recap and pics. Now, let the games begin!

I was so pleased that Helena learned about Pluti trying to bribe the Play M people. I'm also glad that she's keeping her cards close to her vest and not letting Pluti know she's on to him.

Oh, Claudia...I thought after hearing Eugenia defend her she would soften a little towards her. But nope! She still blames Eugenia for all her woes, because somehow being the wife who was cheated on makes it all her fault.

I don't know what it is going to take to turn Claudia around. Those of you who have raised teenagers know how they are like little kids in adult bodies. But this little kid is dangerous.

Sorry about the double post ..it was 6:30 am Pacific time and my coffee had not quite kicked in. Looking forward to more comments from ya'll! It's a Friday...lets laugh some more!

Bill, thanks for your funny recap. "Slack-jawed Pluti" is exactly right.

The hand games with Eva, Adri, and Mendoza were so funny. Adri was determined that Mendoza would NOT touch his beloved Eva. The lip squeeze by Eva was a little harsh.

Too late to comment yesterday, but a very good recap and many great comments. Loved the "teflon" Modesto and the thoughts on where he goes offscreen.

I picture a study, with his law books for notaries, and a comfy chair and a desk. When he shuts down another conversation, he slips into the study, flops in his chair, pours a little drink, and turns to his computer where the video game is running.

Forgot to mention Renato--stylin' in his resort wear Bermuda shorts.

I'm going to have to do some catching up before I recap tonight's fun-filled episode.

But I did see Fernando with Daniel. I have to wonder what would happen if someone showed Ferni a videotape of himself begging a teenaged boy to get his boss to give him some vacation time. Fern is so hung up on trying to feel manly and macho in front of his wife and kids that he will grovel for petty favors from the boy who's hoping to nail his daughter.

If he could see what we see, he would not feel manly and macho at all. What a worm.

Bill, Bill, Bill.... Too funny!!!

I like your sense of humor.

I think we need to further investigate Santi bebe's expectations. Why on earth does he want to have a heart-to-heart with bar/match.com girl? Does not make sense, especially when he was so commitment phobic with the women of his past (Patti, for example).

Fer is an idiota... Next I expect him yo whip a condom from his wallet and give it to Daniel. He might as well... he's pretty much invited him to molest his daughter, with his blessing, in exchange for a couple of days vacation. (Of course, the 25th wouldn't be the same without him.)

Onesimo was hilarious, as usual, especially when having a conversation with la difunta y su coro de angeles!

Looking forward to the next episode!

Anyone wants to go to Acapulco?

Annick, it's 22F degrees (-5C) here right now. You bet I want to go to Acapulco!!

I'll put the recap up tomorrow. From what I've seen of the episode so far, you can tell that we're approaching the home stretch.
