Amores Verdaderos #73 Wed 2/20/13 Skinnier, you couldn't be!

Some of our novela characters have been approaching the Patio with concerns about the cognitive dissonance* they are experiencing in their roles.  Today someone who prefers to be known only as "Big Joe" writes as follows:

[*cognitive dissonance:  psychological conflict resulting from incongruous beliefs and attitudes held simultaneously.]

Dear NovelaMaven:

I am a good character.  Really, I am.  I love my wife and I would never be unfaithful to her.  It would break her fictional heart -- and my imaginary daughter's too.  But the writers are throwing me at another woman and I don't know what to do.  She's a very nice woman, it's true.  Sometimes we have a blast together -- you should have seen us at the bowling alley.  But how can she be my soul mate when that position was filled some twenty years ago?  Please help, my dear Maven.  Don't let them Nelsonate me! I refuse to be Anibalified!  But frankly, I need the work.  So what do I do?

Yours in desperation,
Big Joe
-----------------------

Dear Big Joe:

Have faith in the writers.  The anvils are in their hands and they will drop them when the time is right.  Your problems will be solved before you can say "¡Yo no soy bígamo!"  (If you doubt the power of writers to solve the insoluble, you haven't been keeping up with Downton Abbey.)  Suck it up, Big Boy.

Besitos,
NM

Now let's get back to the godawful surprise party.

Upstairs at the Mansion
Vikki hears a commotion inside Nikki's room and begs to be let in.  Nikki opens the door and allows her mother to hold her back against the chaos.  Then she sinks down helplessly on her bed, her defenses and denials exhausted.  ¡No puedo más!  She's sick and she needs help.  She has bulimia!  Vikki is bewildered but she answers her daughter with a warm and comforting embrace.

Outside the Mansion, Guzmán explains to Arriaga how Nikki tricked him into thinking she was seeing a therapist for her problem.  Only the therapist turned out to be Dr. Kendra!  Kendra!  Arriaga says Kendra offered Cris a job.  Guzmán doesn't like to meddle in other people's lives but La señora Ferretti me da muy mala espina. (I have a bad feeling about her.)  Arriaga admits he's not a Kendra fanboy himself but his code of silence keeps him from telling Cris what he knows.  As for Nikki's problem, after the party, Guzmán is going to tell Vikki about it.  They both gaze up at her lighted window.

Vikki doesn't believe it at first.  Didn't the nutritionist say she was just anemic and needed vitamins and a balanced diet?  "I lied to her," Nikki confesses miserably.  She is so disgusting; she feels so rejected; she hates what she sees when she looks in the mirror; she looks híper gorda no matter how much she exercises.  Here Vikki interjects:  ¡Más delgada no puedes estar! (You couldn't be any more slender!)  But Nikki denies that.

Vikki will take her daughter to a doctor.  They are in this thing together and they will get help and move past it.  Nikki needs to stop worrying about what other people think: "We love you for who you are, not because you're fat or skinny."

A mini-axis of Evil -- O-K?
Downstairs at the party, Odette approaches Kendra, who is in a neo-flapper get-up.  [In a certain light, the bauble on her forehead looks like a bare light bulb you might see hanging from the ceiling in the bathroom of a railroad flat.]  Odette needles Kendra about her failure to trap Furry.  She thinks hiring Arriaga's wife was idiotic since she's bound to figure out that Kendra is boinking Nelson:
No cabe duda -- tu belleza es directamente proporcional a tu torpeza.
(No doubt about it -- your beauty is directly proportional to your ineptitude.  Which, when you think about it, is as close as Odette ever comes to a compliment.)

Kendra repeats her evil logic (Rube Goldberg meets Machiavelli) but Odette isn't interested.  She wants results in one month. Or else!

Odette walks away, smiling smugly.  Kendra takes a few steps up what appears to be a perfectly serviceable Potential Staircase of Doom and surveys the crowd.  "We'll see who has the last laugh, maldita bruja!"

When every mirror is a fun-house mirror...
Nikki and Vikki continue talking about the gravity of bulimia and the importance of acknowledging her illness.  Nikki isn't exactly sure how it started; but she tells her mother what she told Guzmán earlier -- how she was hurt by whispers that she was fat and that she only got work as a model because of her mother.  Vikki is quick to point out that Nikki has everything it takes to be a great model: her height, the way she carries herself, her beautifully proportioned body, her lovely face.   Nikki doesn't see it that way.  She is a cow!  She's horrible! No one finds her attractive -- she's a big blob of fat.

Vikki realizes that her daughter's self-image is distorted, likely a part of her illness.  With help, she knows her daughter will get well and discover the beauty and the goodness that lie within her.  She is sure that Nikki will overcome her illness.

PaulaToo's Apartment
Beatriz is pacing and her face betrays her anguish.  No one answers her calls at Leonardo's mother's house.  She has to know if Guillo is with her.  She can't just wait idly, she tells Paula.  She grabs her purse and heads for the door.  Tengo que  encontrar a mi tesoro.  (I have to find my treasure.)
[Wow.  How does Susana González keep a straight face when referring to that Guillo kid as her "treasure"?  Patio folks want to know.]

The party may be a bust but at least some musicians are getting work.
Per Nelson Brizz's orders, Salsero hires a restaurant guitar trio to play a serenata for Vikki.  They won't be free to go for another hour.  That's fine with Salsero who uses the time to dream of his beloved Beatriz.

More mother-daughter bonding
Vikki is brushing Nikki's hair.  Nikki feels bad about ruining the party but Vikki thinks the trust her daughter is showing her is the best birthday gift possible.

Guzmán appears at the bedroom door.   Nelson sent him to bring the women back to the party.  They fill him in on what has happened -- mom knows everything now.  Vikki agrees to go downstairs to say goodnight to the guests, asking Guzmán to stay with Nikki.

Has anyone seen the birthday girl?
Downstairs, Kendra and Nelson exchange sly looks.  Aníbal steps between them while the Godfather (thanks, Mads!) looks on sternly.  Jocelyn drapes herself on Aníbal's shoulder.  Everyone is wondering where Vikki is.  Then someone points to the Potential Staircase of Doom -- and yes, Victoria Balvanera is making her way down the stairs very carefully, high heels, long dress and all.  She is greeted with applause and cheers and mostly smiles. [No smile on Kendra.  She thinks no one on the Patio is watching.  Hah.]

Nelson lights the orchid-decorated cake, a string quartet plays Las mañanitas, and while everyone is singing, Nikki (back in her party dress) and Guzmancito come downstairs too.

Vikki tolerates Nelson's peck on the cheek and allows him to hug her and congratulate her after she blows out the candle.  When Kendra kisses Victoria, Arriaga, who is standing apart and watching, looks as if he could use some Pepto Bismal.  He moves forward to join the line of well-wishers, but Nelson steps in front of him and cuts him off.  Then Vikki eludes Nelson by walking around him and climbs midway up the stairs.  She turns and thanks them all.  She's not feeling well -- with all the excitement, her blood pressure is a bit low, she tells her guests -- so she's going to lie down.

The Furry Failure tries to keep a lid on his fury but he is clearly annoyed.  Too bad, Furry.  Vikki asks her daughter to come with her and the two go up together leaving sour Nelson in the dust.

Odette urges Kendra to move in on the Fornicator -- take advantage of the situation!

Arriaga leans against a stone column; Guzmancito stands as if he were a stone column.  Tomasina walks between them and wants to know what's going on.  They play dumb.  Well she'll find out herself!  When she walks away, Guz tells the Angel that Nikki had the courage to tell her mother the truth.  Our hunky bodyguards exchange a look of moral satisfaction.

Upstairs, Nelson intrudes grotesquely on a sweet mother-daughter scene.  Vikki has just tucked Nikki into bed and promised to pamper her tonight.  Nelson sweeps in on a wave of pique and grievance: Vikki was rude to their guests! the low blood pressure thing was a lie!

Vikki explains that it is Nikki who is not well.  He wants to know what is wrong. Nikki can't quite say it out loud.

Meanwhile, Tomasina has taken up a post outside the door and listens in...

Victoria explains:
Nikki tiene problemas alimentarios; padece bulimia.
(Nikki has an eating disorder; she suffers from bulimia.)

Nelson listens, seems to do a rapid mental search and finds no suitable response in his behavioral repertoire.  Finally he spits out:  How do you know?  Vikki explains that they will be seeing a doctor but that the symptoms have been present for a long time.  Nelson's not buying it: Nikki is just trying to call attention to herself.

[They are beside themselves at the Nikki table: "That may be true, you Furry Freak, but that doesn't mean she isn't sick!"]

She needs to do something useful (de provecho) for a change.  Meanwhile, she should go to sleep; in the morning she'll realize it's all just a bunch of nonsense (una sarta de tonterías) she made up.

Vikki tries again, explaining that bulimia is a serious illness.  Nelson refuses to see it as anything but the usual manipulative behavior.  He doesn't soften, even when Nikki tearfully pleads with him:  Papá, te juro que estoy enferma.  (I swear I'm sick.)

Tomi steals away from the door.

Nelson leaves -- really, he is booted out -- convinced Nikki is faking and his wife is a fool for believing her.  Nikki whispers softly to his retreating figure:  Papá ...

[To those cynics on the Patio who are whispering about The Boy who Cried Wolf -- Oh yeah?  You wanna make something of it?]

A Fool and His Daughter's Money
In another part of the city, Felipe sits at a card table and rakes in a sizeable pile of chips.  He's on a lucky streak -- and he needs to be. He has to win enough to pay for his daughter's divorce and buy her a nice apartment ...

Abuela Aïda doesn't answer the door.
Beatriz rattles the outer gate leading to Leo's mother's place.  Soggy Paula stands uselessly behind her. [4" stilettos? I mean really?]  Guillo!  Tesoro!  They've been there over half an hour and clearly no one is home.  Bea rejects Paula's surprisingly sensible suggestion that they report Guillo's disappearance to the police.  She's afraid if she does that, she'll never see Guillo again.

Not to worry, Beatriz.  Granny Aïda has just treated Guillo to a horror movie and is now filling his head with junk food and lies:  His mother said if she didn't call, Guillo should spend the night with abuelita. [Yeah. Right.]  Who's taking him to school tomorrow?  School shmool.  Have some chocolate churros, kid.

Aníbal comes to check on his girls.  Vikki tells him she's okay, she just had a little headache.  The thing is, she's not really into parties.  And Nikki is fine, just exhausted from too much exercise.  Aníbal scolds Vikki for snubbing her guests; she retorts that Nelson shouldn't have thrown a party, given the sorry state of their relationship.

Now Guzmán arrives and Vikki has a chance to ask him why he didn't tell her about Nikki's bulimia.  He wasn't sure at first, he explains; later, Nikki said she would take responsibility for herself and she would see a psychologist.

Vikki brightens at hearing this: So she is getting therapy?

That's what Guzmancito thought.  He would drive her to the appointment but had to wait outside the building.  One day she was taking longer than usual so he went inside to check on her.  That's when he discovered she was spending her supposed therapy time in Kendra Ferretti's apartment.

Vikki is shocked.  She can't believe Kendra would lend herself to such a scheme.  Guzmán says nothing.  Well Vikki is going to have to have a serious talk with Kendra.

Finally Vikki leaves and Guzmán looks down on the sleeping face of his beloved Nikki.  He strokes her hair and sits beside her and murmurs:
Eres tan frágil, tan indefensa.  Lo que yo daría ser el hombre de tu vida -- para cuidarte, protegerte, y amarte.
(You're so fragile, so defenseless.  What I wouldn't give to be the love of your life -- to care for you, protect you, and love you.)

There is less sentimentalism downstairs.
Salsero leads the serenading guitar trio into the great room where grumpy Nelson Brizz stands alone.  "Shut up!  Shut up!  Shut up!" he screams.  "Get them out of my house!"

Nelson sits on the bottom step and drinks.  Vikki, now more sure-footed in flats and jeans, joins him downstairs.  He is still aggrieved because she didn't appreciate his party.  She doesn't want to hear it.  They need to talk about their daughter -- Nikki's illness is serious; it can even be fatal.  Nelson blows her off -- as usual, she's exaggerating.  It's normal for girls to do crazy stuff to be slender.

But if she does have an eating disorder, it's because of Vikki's neglect.  Nikki is a sensitive girl; of course she is affected by Victoria's mood swings (altibajos emocionales).  And instead of taking care of her family, Victoria spends all of her time yucking it up with Arriaga.

"Arriaga has nothing to do with this!"  They are talking about their daughter's life!  All he wants to do is take advantage of the situation!

Now Vikki runs up the Potential Stairway of Doom with Furry Fury at her heels.  He says:  "If Nikki dies, you'll be the one to blame!"

¡Cállate! screams Vikki, appalled.  She slaps him hard and repeats: ¡Cállate!  Slap!!!  Slap!!!  His reflexes must be dulled by the booze because she gets three good cracks in before he grabs her wrist.  They struggle and lean over the Potential Railing of Doom.  Nelson drops his whiskey glass and it shatters. (More work for the staff.)

"You're crazy!" screams Nelson.  Vikki agrees, "Crazy with despair at the thought of Nikki not ... "  "Oh don't exaggerate," says Nelson.  He just said it because he's an anal orifice.  He didn't mean it.  Besides, Victoria is the one who is responsible for Nikki's problems.  She's the one who introduced her to the world of modeling.  A mother should lend support to her children.  But she, as a mother is a total failure!

Now Nelson escapes, murdered neither by the staircase, the railing, his wife, nor the Patio crowd.  [There will be time enough. Aribeth tells us there will be 200 episodes.]  Vikki collapses but then pulls herself together:  She has to be strong for her daughter.  The spooky sopranos sound in the background. woooo wooooo.

Outside the Mansion, Salsero asks Jean Marie why the party ended early.  JM gives him the official story and Polita babbles commentary in counterpoint.  Salsero picks out one thing in the stream of words:  Kendra Ferretti was at the party!

Inside, Tomasina tends to Nelson's binge of destruction: she sweeps up the shards of glass and she tells Victoria she is the best mother in the world.

Victoria needs some alone time.  She heads down to her studio.

It wasn't me, Puchis!
Salsero calls Kendra.  Was she the one who ruined the party?  Nah.  Vikki pretended not to feel well and left Nelson looking like a fool.  And guess what?  Now Kendra is there to console him!  Not only that, Nikki is her ally and she's going to collect payback very soon for a big favor she's doing her.  Salsero tells her not to be so sure of herself; but Kendra's not listening.  She tells him to go amuse himself with his colorless Beatriz .  She'll let him know when she needs him.

Mexican Chicken Soup for the Soul
Vikki sits alone in her studio, then gets up and paces.  She reaches up to a shelf and takes down a framed photo of Nikki and a volume of poetry.  Hijita mia, hijita mia, she sighs, putting on her glasses.  She reads aloud:

Todo amor nuevo que aparece           Every new love that is
nos ilumina la existencia,                    lights up our existence,

Jose Angel enters silently and walks down the stairs.  Vikki continues reading:

nos la perfuma y enflorece.                 lends it fragrance and makes it flower.

En la más densa oscuridad ...             In the most impenetrable darkness ...

Now Vikki removes her glasses, closes her eyes and sighs.  Arriaga's voice supplies the next line of the poem, reciting from memory:

Toda mujer es refulgencia                  Every woman is a shining
y todo amor es claridad.                     and every love is light.

Vikki turns around, stands and faces him.  He continues:

Para curar la pertinaz                        To heal the unyielding pain
pena, en las almas escondida,            hidden in the soul,
un nuevo amor es eficaz;*                  a new love is the remedy;

*From El amor nuevo in Poemas de amor de Amado Nervo.

His mother used to say that Amado Nervo's poetry was like a caress for the soul, he tells her.  His mother was right, agrees Vikki: When someone is depressed, it's good to have someone to caress one's soul.

Heavy, dude.

Avances:  A montage.  Hard to say if there was anything new.  Is that a good thing?

Remember -- no show tomorrow night (Thursday). See you all on Friday!

Novela Maven - Thanks for the recap, and up so fast! and so snarky!!! LOL

I am officially opening up a "I hate Nelson Brizz" table on the patio of Lowered Expectations. He thinks he is so wonderful, when in reality he's a despot. Imbécil! Infeliz!

Vikki and Nelson had me worried that Viewerville would witness …. escaleracide, AV style. Phew! We dodged THAT bullet.

[4" stilettos? I mean really?] ----- and did you see those muscles in her calves?

Interesting move at the party, when Nelson blocked JA as he approached Vikki…

WHY the heck is JA down there with Vikki in her atelier? All she needs now is Nelson to walk in.

Wonderful and fast work NovelaMaven!

I'll comment more tomorrow because I'm still too mad about FFFF (that fourth F is a bad word). Doris- You ask why JA is in the studio. I want to know why he wasn't on the stairs when Vicky, the woman he's supposed to protect, was being manhandled by F4?

Novela Maven: I haven't read the entire recap, but what a marvelous opening, it is priceless, amiga. I will comment more tomorrow and I couldn't agree more with Doris and Vivi. I really liked Vivi's quadrouple F''s for our least fav character : )

NM another fun romp of a recap before bed. I'm glad the AdP patio theme continues here. I'll be with Aribeth organizing Nelson "falling" down the stairs ;)

I know I shouldn't be shocked by Nelson's behavior I was as outraged as Vivi and where was JA? Doris - I'll join you at the I hate Nelson table. It might have been amusing if Nelson had fallen down the stairs but I know its too early for that. Mads - I'm torn b/t FF and Anyballs as the worst characters. He continued lying to his daughter about her baby is just evil. I mean even Paula whiner said he was a monster.

Suspenseful recap!!NovelaMaven. Vivi, I share with you my hatred and outrage of the venoms of FFFF!!!And for a while I was afraid that he would throw Vicki down that dreadful balcony?staircase. He is unforgivable. If I were Nikki, I myself would bring the divorce document to end the marriage between her parents. Fool is another F word huh?

THOSE LETTERS! :DDDD NovelaMaven, your sense of humor and your narrative style are admirable.

Thank you for the great recap!

Karen: I'm with you, let's get rid of the Creepy Casanova. :)

Novelamaven!!! Loved your letter with Big Joe's plea for advice. I especially enjoyed your newly coined words ''Nelsonate'' and Anibalify'' Perfecto. Has anyone mentioned that Jean Marie's love interest is a familiar face ? I don't remember the actor's name, but he was Gaviota's Italian restaurant boss/buddy in Destilando Amor, and I've seen him in many other noevas in supporting roles. He seems to change his look with every role.

Here are 2 more Fs...FF = Fast Forward. I want to join the ''I Hate Furry Club.'' What a loser.

What a fabulous recap and commentary. Very educational as well (I admit I had to look up Rube Goldberg and atelier.)

I loved the Potential Staircase of Doom and Potential Railing of Doom.

Also enjoyed "Anibalized" and "Nelson sweeps in on a wave of pique and grievance" just tickled my fancy for some reason.

Ibarramedia: I hope you see this. I saw your comments last night about Eiza as Lola. It's a cute show and I have shown it to my classes in the past and they enjoy it immensely. I think it's funny that the Balvanera Mansion and the Von Ferdinand Mansion are one and the some. Plus you can hear some of the same musical motifs during JM and Polita scenes.

drat. "One in the sAme". Too early to comment.

NovelaMaven, this episode was a doozy of a downer. How wonderful that you used your marvelous humor to transform sour into sweet: "If you doubt the power of writers to solve the insoluble, you haven't been keeping up with Downton Abbey.) Suck it up, Big Boy." Most excellent!

Thankfully, it's early here at work and I received only one quizical gaze when I laughed out loud at gems like: "Anibalified", "Nelsonate me" and of course, "potential Stairway of Doom".

Vivi, Madelaine I understand your frustration with your and the other comments about JAs absence during the fight. Perhaps JA thought Vicky was still with Nikki upstairs? When the shouting escalated though, I thought sure he would come running. I was waiting for him to fly up the stairs, pummeling Nelson into unconsciouness. I don't condone violence but "It's normal for girls to do crazy stuff to be slender?" He neeeds some serious straightening out. Can we introduce him to Leo? Was it terrible I said that??

doris, yes, Nelson cut JA right off when he went to congratulate Vicky. I felt sad when she was giving her speech and she was looking around for JA and he wasn't there.

Karen, excellent question as to who is worse - Anibal or Nelson. I have to say Anibal too for the reasons you stated. Bad enough he lied to Adriana but he continues to perpetuate the lie. He's beyond vile.

Vida2 - I think if Nikki knew everything that Nelson has done, she might well be in more support of their divorce. I think last night may have opened her eyes a bit.

Aribeth: "Creepy Casanova". Good one!

Susanlynn: Is it Archie Lefranco? Yes, he is a great character actor and a lot of fun to watch...

Novela Maven, thank you. Your embedded vocabulary was a wonderful treat! You made my day...

Diana

I loved Angelcito's sad face when he was blocked by Nelson. Frankie also noticed his frustration, and to be honest, it must've been quite obvious for him that Arriaga had not-exactly-appropriate-feelings for Vicky. If this had been a cartoon, dozens of broken pink hearts would have been floating around the big guy.

NovelaMaven: I have finally read this marvelous recap, so wonderful and loved the names Nelsonate and Anibalified, lol. I laughed so hard, thanks for this marvelous, so humorous recap.

My favorite scene tonight was Ms Vikki and Angelito and the poetry. Gosh, that man's voice. Angel's voice must surely have been heaven sent. I would have melted in a huge puddle, jus' sayin'.

Glad Ms Vikki and Nikki bonded and are so close. I am sooo glad Ms Vikki knows the truth now and can help Nikki.

Curse that quad and more Fornicator. He needs the boot up the butt. I was kinda hoping he would fall off the staircase rail of doom. I have seen this staircase before in another TN. I just can't remember which one. Fornincator just loves to make the help extra work. What a freakin' putz. And to think Nikki is basically acting out. Where is that cast iron skillet with the long handle.

Kendho and Odiodette are so made for each other with their mis planes. And Kendho really thinks she will get half the fortune. I think Anyballs would cut Fornicator off at the knees if she found out the Fornicator's amante is Kendho. Didn't Kendho just look like the Queen of the Manse standing on that staircase of doom?

Anyballs is beyond the pale. I agree that he perpetuates the lies and could care less about his daughters. That alliance with quad Fornicator is just too much. If I were Anyballs I'd set up something, like a straw man, buy those shares of MI back and then kick ole quad Fornicator to the curb.

Karen: I am conflicted about which one is worse also. I think they are about even right now.

NovelaMaven: Loved your shout out to Downton Abbey. Didn't like the Season Finale. They just had to go and bump Matthew off, even though the actor wanted to leave, but stilll.....

NovelaMaven, thank you so much. I haven't seen the episode yet because I'm in Canada, but you retelling is vivid and gave me my fix. I love your calling Kendra's logic a combo of Rube Goldberg and Machiavelli. Perfect description!

This comment has been removed by the author.

Great recap, NovelaMaven, hilarious.

Karen,

"It might have been amusing if Nelson had fallen down the stairs..."

Yes indeed, but you set me to thinking, have we ever seen a man fall down the Stairs of Doom? I can't recall a single time, but who better to start a trend than Nelson?

My favorite scene was the trio continuing to play even as Nelson was shooing them out.

I got the idea from the avances for both AV and AB that they will be showing excerpts from earlier shows on both on Fri.

Carlos

NovelaMaven: I *did* see your late comment and I agree with you. I don't know if Estefano was lookin' at Jean Marie either. He does seem to have a hero worship of Ms Vikki, much to the chagrin of his Odious Mama, so I wonder too if he was really lookin' at her, and Not JM. Hmmmmm interesting.

Hey, I saw a link Paula H put on Por Ella Soy Eva, for ratings for that TN for yesterday, and we are tied with Por Ella Soy Eva for number 5 across all networks, which includes, ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, etc. Wow!!!!!

Concerning the discussion yesterday of villains being redeemed on novelas, Marcelo Cordoba [one of my 3 main telenovios] sometimes plays good guys [Alborada] and sometimes bad guys . In a past novela , he played a tialoving abuelakiller. He was having an affair with his tia and shot someone's abuelo. Even then , he was too yummy for me to hate. He is currently playing a bad guy on Por Ella. He's also played bad guys in other novelas. He was also a good guy in Pasion. I think he played a loyal servant in that novela. In Alborada, he was Don Luis's loyal body guard. In that one he came to everyone's rescue [Luis, women, friends, friends of friends, etc.....everybody], and at the end, he married Luis's ex mistress who was pregnant by her next Sugar Daddy. Now that's a good guy. I never saw the end of the novela in which he played Antolin, but I'm glad he was redeemed. I like this actor better as a good guy, but his face can certainly portray evil personified .

Can we have some "I Hate Nelson Brizz" or maybe better "I hate FFF" tee shirts made for MetaMart?

I can't remember a guy ever falling down stairs in telenovelaland.

I will have AV withdrawals tonight, with no episode.

I also hated the Downton Abbey season finale.

OMG!, CarayMates, I will never, ever, nunca de las nuncas, make fun of any telenovela actress' "flotation devices" again. Look at these, from the show "double divas". (first 12 seconds will be enough, trust me.) Now there is someone with distorted body perception:
http://www.mylifetime.com/shows/double-divas/video/season-1/episode-8/episode-8-get-your-girls-out-there

I am now a proud member of the "I Hate Nelson Brizz" Club. Thanks again NovelaMaven for the fun recap.

Someone who has it recorded should go back and look to see if Vicky was just behind JM each time Estefano was looking in that direction adoringly. Good theory!

Susanlynn- In Sortilegio, Marcelo played a bi-sexual, gold-digging gigolo, who raped his wife. And they redeemed him! He had custody of a baby (his dead lover's and his wife's) and a possible second chance with his wife by the end.

I elect the F-ing Failed Furry Fornicator (F4) to become our first tn man to meet the Staircase of Death!

Vivi - Bravo! I'll second your motion re: F(4) escaleracide.

NovelMaven – Your recap swept me away. Loved the “Dear Joe” letters – put it in a nutshell. My favorites:

"To those cynics on the Patio who are whispering about The Boy who Cried Wolf -- Oh yeah? You wanna make something of it?"

"A Fool and His Daughter's Money"

"The spooky sopranos sound in the background. woooo wooooo."

Never, ever ever sitting at the Nelson table. But, really, Vickie asks her bodyguard in front of all the partygoers if he organized the party for when her husband is standing right there beside her? And the evening just nosedived from there for the little FFFF [thanks, Vivi]. It was so rude of Nelson and awkward for JA when Nelson blocked him from greeting Vickie that I almost wanted to look away.

Loved Vickie's triple-slap. I'm actually glad JA didn't show up so she and Nelson could go at it alone.

Hated Vickie’s dress, but I guess the writers' idea was to underscore that the party was a chore for her and not a pleasure. Otherwise, her clothes look sleek and modern.

Now that Nikki's finally facing her bulimia problem, I want to see her treat Polita better. Maybe stop calling her “meatball.”

Susanlynn – Thanks for the ID on Estefano. I thought he looked familiar.

I'm not 100 percent sure that Estefano was looking at Jean Marie either, but I am about Jean Marie’s gaydar being on point.

Carlos you are right men don't fall down staircases but I think we are all willing to make an exception and have F4 (thanks Vivi) be the first.

OMG! So much to say today.
First, Susanlynn---I can understand
why you don't want to look at Leo, I don't like to look at him either and I am not in your situation. I really felt sorry for Bea last night, the hurt/fear/horror on her face must be what you have experienced. I can only say that people are praying for you and yours. Stay positive, it might be a while but the sun will shine again.

Ibarramedia---Eiza with curves? I must say that I have thought about that myself. In the music video Estar Bien on Youtube where she sings with RBD and Kudai, Eiza looked very healthy and did have curves. She must have half starved
herself for this role.

NovelaMaven---Your letter from Big Joe was nothing short of incredible, also your response letter. Don't let them Nelsonate me was pure genius.
Your writing today was beyond great. Nelson escapes, murdered neither by the staircase, the railing, his wife, nor the patio crowd. Another winner/pure genius.
Another great one---The party may be a bust but at least the musicians are getting work.

Loved the scene/scenes between mother and daughter last ight.

Vivi---The Furry Failure? It use to be The Furry Fornicator. That's three F's, now a fourth? This guy is getting to much attention.

doris---I'm afraid that if you open up a I hate Nelson Brizz table on the patio, all of the other tables will be empty.

Elvira---I'm still chuckling over
Happy Birthday To You...well not so much. You guys are the best.
the gringo

I forgot. The triple slap was great last night but it would have been even better if it had been with the party guests present.
the gringo

Hey guys,

I just finished reading your comments -- thanks so much for the kind words! You are all so sharp and funny today!

I realized that I have begun to think of this show as a COMEDY with TRAGIC RELIEF.

I'm hoping she story doesn't get too bogged down in earnest exposition about eating disorders. (OTOH, it would make it easy for us recappers -- lots of -->FF scenes with no Fur involved.)

Which reminds me ,.. what happens to all the left-over food? Does Tomasina take it to soup kitchens? We needn't worry about the cake -- Polita made it clear she has dibs on that. :-)

NM: Hey maybe the staff gets that leftover food, ala Downton Abbey, ya know like when Lady Edith got jilted at the altar. Although, I am sure they would STILL have enough left over to give to a food bank, or the homeless.

gringo```I appreciate your words and prayers more than you know. When my older daughter was having a difficult pregnancy, I asked friends, acquaintances, waitresses, a lady I met at a turnpike stop, anyone, and everyone to pray for her. We now have beautiful 3-month-old Evelyn Joy. As my best friend Carol says to me, ''Things sometimes have to get worse before they get better.'' At the end of this month, Hub and I close on a smaller house for my daughter and the girls. Time to move forward. As for F4, isn't there a ''4F'' in the army for those who fail the physical...or did I just make that up ? Concerning males on staircases, I can recall William Levy and David Somebody fighting and tumbling down a looog, twisting staircase in Sortlegio. I think one or both were in their skivvies. Good television. However, neither died . The staircases in these novelas [and they often have them] always reminds me of the scene in ''Gone with the Wind'' when Scarlet tumbles down the staircase and miscarries. For me, my own , personal staircase memory is sliding down the bannister at our farm....My mother did not appreciate it.

Two thoughts : 1. If only 4F knew what Vikki was actually wishing when she blew out the candle. 2. Do you know what could have really livened up that bomb of a party?...Pin the Tale on the Biggest Jackass in the Room...your choice a] 4F b] Anyballs c] both of the above

susanlynn - OMG, I had forgotten about the underwear fight in Sortilegio. LOL~!!!!!

You're right, I remember there was a 4F deferral from the draft during the VietNam years.

Yes susanlynn how could I forget the yellow underwear of David Zepada and William Levy as they rolled down the staircase? Thanks for the memories ;). And sorry about your recent challenges.

The bright yellow underwear fight is forever burned into my brain. But neither of those guys was hurt by their tumble in the least, and even continued to duke it out once they got to the bottom. Quite impressive actually because the two actors didn't use stunt men.

Gringo- F4 got his third F after he failed to perform with Kendra the other day.

I just watched the episode and I am seething. Nelson is just...

GAH!!!!!

Doris! I'm buying a round drinks for everyone at the IHNB table.

Sara, Doris and everyone else at the IHNB table:

Is that really where you want to hang out?

I get it that Furry is a jerk. But the thing is, he is so uninteresting, so predictable. (So is Leo, though he cranks up the hideous factor several notches).

Aníbal is a real bastard but his story is intriguing. HIS table might be worth a visit.

The Vikki-Arriaga theme is fun.

The Nikki-Frankie theme is also fun.

But the IKKI's are the core of the novela for me: The Nikki-Vikki relationship is wonderful and I loved the way it developed last night.

I have high hopes that the ANA's will also be fun to watch together (Adriana-Liliana). Really, they already are.

I'll drink to the IKKI's and the ANA's -- Baileys, anyone?

NM- Oh, I'm not sitting at the IHNB Table, but I am a proud member of the club. ITA that other tables would be more fun. Actually, the Joclyn table would be really fun. She would keep us all entertained as she flirts with the Bodyguard Table. The Icky Table would be heartwarming. The Anas Table might be a bit too weepy for me.

OK, Vivi:

I'll wear a IHNB lapel pin when Anita has them in stock. But I'll stay away from the Jocelyn table, at least when Mr. Maven is with me.

The weepy Ana's are a downer, true. But the Avenging Ana's (and we've seen them when they get mad) might be a trip.

I'm just buying drinks. You should know be now dear Maven that I don't really have a seat anywhere.

There's always a place for you at my table, Chica -- though I have to admit, mingling is the best social strategy.

Cheers!

"Is that really where you want to hang out?"

I didn't say I would sit there all night. BwaHahahaaa! We'll all stop by there and sling verbal insults to the FFFF, and definitely move on to schmooze and kibitz at a more fun table. :-)
But the table definitely needs to be there as a "pit stop" while we make the rounds.

I'm still at the Betty table, to kinda watch over her, and keep *leo the low* at bay. Salsero joins us occaisonally, but I also like to hang out with the bodyguards to pick up some tips : )

Does that mean we won't see you at the 4F Father of the Year Awards Dinner, Doris?

I also like to hang out with the bodyguards to pick up some tips

Is that what the kids are calling it these days, Mads?

Novela Maven: I meant tips on self dense, from the bodyguards, wink, snort. Ya know from Arriaga about the Akido maybe. I also like Zambrano, he is a hottie too, ; )

Neta, Madelaine. Capto.

:-)

Carlos:

My favorite scene was the trio continuing to play even as Nelson was shooing them out.

Yes. Abso - 4F-in' - lutely. Shades of La hija del mariachi. Sigh.

Right Doris, great idea. Stop by the 4F table just long enough to throw out a few insults and then move on. ITA.

Sorry, Gringo and Doris. Patio management informs me that the 4F table has been removed from the premises. Bad vibes and all.

[Maybe Beatriz knows where the table is now. Or maybe we'll have to ask Dante from Amor bravío -- he might have heard something.]

NM - LOL

Loved the triple slap Victoria gave Nelson. And where does he get off talking about her playing with Arriaga when he spends most of his time with his pants around his ankles chasing Kendra? What a hypocrite. And have you noticed that EVERYTHING that goes wrong with Nikki is automatically Victoria's fault?

Well, it can't be Nelson's fault when he hardly ever sees or talks to Nikki, can it ;)? Typical. Like the way "single mothers" always get talked about like they're a drag on society, because obviously the parent who sticks around is the problem, not the one who bailed.

Soooo...am I correct in assuming that there is no enthusiasm here for taking Nelson on as a rehabilitation project?

He planned a rather nice party (OK... someone did)

He bought a very attractive necklace (OK...someone did)

He's good in bed (OK...maybe not so much these days)

He loves Nikki (well...at least he hasn't said that he doesn't)

Sorry Nelson...no table for you

Carlos

I was reading a psychology book. When children are young, they think the world revolves around them and will not admit that they are responsible for anything. Instead, they always blame someone else for anything that goes wrong. Let's put NelSONE at the Arrested Development table....with my soon-t-be ex-son-in-law...and Leo. Basta. If those three are going to be there...I'll be in the kitchen with JM and Polita. Looking forward to watching tonight's episode.

....on second thought...I'll be at the bar sipping Bailey's....I can mingle.
